DB:3.51:Hiding Part Of Task Sequence Progress cz

We use a somewhat standardized and boilerplate method to create our task sequences for software deployment (not doing OSD). Simplified: Stop McShield, Install the software, Start McShield, Reboot (if needed), HWSW inventory (the last group in any of them is to run SW HW inventories--we have an inordinately long, weekly inventory schedule, so, to get fastest results...G).While we want the user to know something is going on for the install and reboot part, it's not necessary for them to see anything popup after the install and/or reboot. By popup, I mean the blue task sequence text/progress bar showing what's going on.I don't see a way to hide a group/sequence/task/program without hiding the whole thing.I realize that I could link a second task sequence to the first, and maybe hide it, but...broken links with linked packages is why we use task sequences, now.Short of that, any way to hide part of a task sequence? Thanks!

    DB:2.90:Showing Task Sequence Progress df

I've set up three programs to run in a task sequence, and I've set those programs to only run when no one is logged on. I've also enabled the advertisement of the task sequence to show the task sequence progress. However, when the computer is sitting at a login prompt, no progress is shown. The advertised task sequence works and does what it is supposed to, but I would like it to show the progress. Is this by design or is there another setting somewhere to show the progress that I am missing?

    Thanks again for any responses,
    Jeff

    DB:2.90:Showing Task Sequence Progress df

You already got the Microsoft answer, so I'm going to suggest a solution that I have used in certain scenarios. I sometime uses Task Sequences where the first step is to set the LegalNoticeCaption and LegalNoticeText registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon to tell the users that they should not logon. Then I reboot (to get the user off the system) and run the rest of the steps, the last step will be to remove the values of the mentioned settings. Of course changing the log on locally user right would be possible (if there isn't any gpo overwriting this), however it may prevent the user from logging on if something fails...

I have not tested to manually create the OSD TS environment where local SYSTEM do an autologon and run tasks sequences - that is what really happens when you run a OSD TS during OSD deployment. You may enable command line support to open command prompt to look into the registry settings, env variables etc that make this work....however it may not be possible or advisable to try to use that setup. An alternative (that I have not tested) could be to have the first step to reboot Windows PE boot image, then reboot back to installed OS...

DB:2.81:Osd Task Sequence Progress Bar Disappears On Some Computers c1

I am creating a new OSD Task Sequence to deploy Win7 x64in SCCM 2012. The image was captured with SCCM 2012 capture media. I have the task sequence working correctly on an HP 2760p. The progress bar shows the entire time (even after task sequence
reboots) and the sequence is completed. I am running this same task sequence on an HP 8460p and Dell M4500 and the prgress bar disappears after the drivers install and reboots back to Win PE. When Win PE comes back up all I can see is the splash screen with
no task sequence progress bar. The task sequence eventually does finish, but it seems to take much longer than the 2760p.
From the M4500 I pulled these errors from the smsts.log
Failed to create instance of progress UI (0x80070015)
I can't figure out why it works correctly on one model but doesn't show progress an another. I was thinking it was a driver issues, but I removed / disabled many non-critical drivers on the 8460p driver package and this problem is still occurring.

DB:2.75:Winpe / Task Sequence Wizard az

Maybe try going into the properties of your boot image and adding some of the networking-based components to your boot image. Then you might have the Netsh commands. I've never tried so I could be wrong, but maybe this will help. If you
notice that you don't have any of these settings when you go into properties, just create a new boot image and the options should all be available. Just out of curiosity, why do you need some of these settings pre-set?

Netsh command don't have anything to do with the task sequence variables that are the thing here to be changed. Those TS variables drive the process of the deployment, they are setted in the GUI posted above (manually). The key here is to manipulate
so that all of them don't need to be manually entered.

    Hi all,

Currently I am showing progress window in every API function start and hiding it at end of that API function. I can not keep it in SHow mode because I don't know which next function get called in sequence. So My progress window get flickered because of show and hide in every function.

I want to make progress window stable. i.e. show progress window when first API function get called and hide at the end of last API function. Is there any common function that MUST get called at start and end of any source control operation?

At least is there any last function that always get called for any operation? so that i can hide progress window at single location.

I observed that for every operation start and end operatoin entry in source control output window. So I think there must be some function to solve my problem.

DB:2.69:W7sp1 Reference Task Sequence Fails 8a

    Hi,
I have a good functioning Win 7 Deployment task sequence which base image is a vanilly Windows 7 install. Since Win7 has got a whole bunch of updates by now (which slowed the deployment quite a bit) I wanted to create a new base image with SP 1 all current
    updates.
I created a reference client creation task sequence, added the usual (ConfigMgr Hotfixes, Software update task, reboots). Unfortunately, even after at least a dozen (extremely time-consuming) tries to fix it, it just fails during update installation. At
the current task sequence try, it downloads 86 updates (takes ages), installs, seems to downloadinstall again(?), then reboots, black screen with win logo and white text (don't have the correct phrase since I have a localized windows version) Initializing
10000 of 70000 or something like that, the usual system files have changed and have to get initialized. Afterwards no SP1 (KB979632) is installed, failed with ciStateError 0x80070643, it's included KB2533552 failed with 0x80070bc9 and 0x8024200B and the task
    sequence does not continue.
I tried my best to find solutions for mentioned error codes but most answers go in the direction of re-install or fix these or those system files etc., which seems rather pointless (or weird) since this is a completely fresh install every time the task
sequence is executed and does by far not seem like the right way.
Since this is a creation of a reference machine it is not part of the domain, but I created Boundaries in ConfigMgr for the LAN, added SMSSLP, SMSSP and FSP to the ConfigMgr client setup arguments and added the ConfigMgr hotfix for the other (albeit afaik
unrelated) software update bug. The update advertisement should also be fine since I doubt it would download the patches if it wasn't.

I have a Chang entry in Scheduled status with one task in Pending. When the Task is set to Work in progress it should set the

Change to Implementation in progress. But that is not happening. I took a look at the flow diagram in the change manual and it looks like

the Task has to be a part of a task group to change the status of the parent CM. Is this true?

    Thanks

    Chuck G.

DB:2.66:Task Set To Wip Not Setting Cm To Implement In Progress... cc

That is a possible explanation. Still, in 7.6.0 it worked fine in combination with task phase management. I have asked change management product management for an explanation. There should be a good reason for this, and maybe the customer accepts this and will follow OOTB. In that case documentation should also be updated so that the diagram reflects how the change management process works.

    Additional comment:

I had to change an additional filter to change the change status to implementation in progress when the task status is set to work in progress: INT:CHGTMS:CRQ:EventReceiveStatusChange_TaskWIP. Same customization, so remove task phase management part from the run if qualifications. I have done some basic unit tests and it works.

DB:2.66:Intermittent Failed To Show Task Sequence Progress Dialog. Error Code 0x80070534 Error On Windows Xp Task Sequence 19

    Hi David/all,
Sorry it took me a while to get round to this, I complete forgot I still had it open as an unanswered question!
The issue turned out to be due to some custom scripts we have performing Active Directory OU moving as part of the Task Sequence, specifically the order in which we were performing these actions in relation to when the domain join happens. I shall go into
    more detail on the issue below;

In the FrontEnd we are using (a heavily customisedversion of thePrettyGoodFrontEndClone by Maik Koster) before you kick off
a deployment it is required to select the OU you wish the computer to be moved to as it is joined to the domain. For general tidiness and to avoid any conflicts with Group Policies running somewhat keenly while the machine is still building, we have an OU
labelled _MDT To Be Assigned which has inheritance blocked from all GPO's -this is known as our Staging OU.
    The Active Directory OU maintenance work is comprised of two stages;
In the FrontEnd, we are saving the value of the destination OU off to a custom MDTvariable called
StagingOU. In the MDT Database, we have the MachineObjectOU set to the value of the
    _MDT To Be Assigned OU.
As we want the machine to reside within the _MDT To Be Assigned staging OU during the actual deployment, on press of the Finish button we check if the computer account currently exists within AD, if it does it will move it from it's current location
to this temporary OU. As MDT can only perform move actions based on the value of the
MachineObjectOU variable we must then swap the variables around so that for the final stage once the deployment has completed, we rewrite the
    MachineObjectOU value to be that of the StagingOU we defined earlier in the FrontEnd using the following code;
    'Swap Variables around for OU's
    sStagingOU = oEnvironment.Item(MachineObjectOU)
    oEnvironment.Item(MachineObjectOU) = oEnvironment.Item(StagingOU)
    oEnvironment.Item(StagingOU) = sStagingOU
The problem with this was due to the stage in the process when XP performs the domain join action, and therefore it was joining the domain and immediately putting the new computer into the final destination OU specified in the FrontEnd.
So when the computer then booted up into Windows to carry on installing custom apps etc as part of the Task Sequence, we had some Group Policy's running which was interfering with the Task Sequence and causing it to fail.
The resolution was simply to move the variable swapping code from the end of stage one, and to the beginning of stage two, which is run as one of the final steps within the Task Sequence, meaning until this point, the
MachineObjectOU variable was still set with the value of the _MDT To Be Assigned
staging OU so that when the domain join was happening the machine was being dropped into an iusolated OU with blocked inheritance meaning that the Task Sequence could finish successfully without any interference from overly keen GPO's.

Ultimately a very simple thing and thankfully a very simple fix, but something that took a LOT of investigating and sleepless nights! Hopefully this post will enable someone else to not experience this headache!
    Kind Regards,
    James

if we try to install Office 2003 during the task sequence of an OS deployment, the installation fails and the following error is logged in the smsts-20071011-133529.log:

DB:2.63:Deploying Office 2003 Via Task Sequence Fails But Advertisement Of Same App Works kj

I am having the same problem.  Let me make sure I have your steps right. 1. Create a new package from Enterprise CD 2. Create an administrative installation with the service packs 3. Create the install with no transforms and take defaults.... I don't understand No other from default settings package. Does this mean don't install settings besides the default settings?  Can I still use an MST file? My package works, but when I run in a task sequence, it fails... It doesn't even run the install command....  On our other test boxes it works, but when you start Office it is asking for the MSI and can't find it.

    DB:2.62:Task Status Lifecycle kz

    Hi,

I am trying to putogather a document that explains Task Status cycle. below is what I have:
Tasks are sequenced in Order they are created 1, 2 and so on.Tasks can only be in Staged status, when Incident is in Assigned Status or Task is at higher sequence (With lower sequence tasks being open)Tasks Created when Incident is in Assigned status:All the tasks are created in Staged status and no other status is possible. When this Incident is moved to In Progress status, The task with sequence 1 are moved out of Staged status.
Tasks Created when Incident is in progress:Only the task with sequence 1 is created in Pending or Assigned status (Depending on Assignment rules)Task with sequence 1 are created in Staged status.
As all the Task in Sequnce = X or below gets closed, Tasks in sequence X+1 are moved out of staged to Pending or Assigned status.

Is this information complete ? Can someone review this or add more information on Task Status life cycle.

    Regards,

    Raj

    DB:2.62:Task Status Lifecycle kz

    Thanks Rakesh.

But the confusing point for me here mostly with reference to staged status. I have observed that an Incident is in progress and then a Task in sequence 1 is still in staged status. I have not been able to reproduce this to capture the behavior. But this is a point that affecting the opeartion of customers.

    Any idea ?

    Regards,

DB:2.61:Windows Thin Pc Task Sequence And Citrix Desktop Lock pf

Citrix Desktop Lock needs to be installed with a user logged on. I have used local admin to install it because that makes more sense in a domain environment. To accomplish this during an OS buildI put a section at the end of the Task Sequence to
run a script that populates the auto logon registry keys. This carries out one auto logon after the build which I used to execute another script to install Desktop Lock along with a few other tweaks and shutdown the computer. It seems to work very quickly
and doesn't expose the desktop long enough for anyone to do anything. For added security I hid the local admin password in a collection variable rather than exposing it in the script.
Here is the script to execute at the end of the TS:-

    Set WShShell = CreateObject(Wscript.Shell)
    Set TSEnv = CreateObject(Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment)
sPassword = TSenv(APW) ' APW is the variable set on the deployment collectionand containsthe local admin password
    sAdministrator = administrator
    sComputer = TSEnv(computername)
    winlogon_key = HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\
    runonce_key = HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
    WShShell.regwrite winlogon_key AutoAdminLogon, 1, REG_SZ
    WShShell.regwrite winlogon_key DefaultUserName, sAdministrator, REG_SZ
    WShShell.regwrite winlogon_key DefaultDomainName, sComputer,REG_SZ
    WShShell.regwrite winlogon_key DefaultPassword, 1, REG_SZ
    WShShell.regwrite winlogon_key AutoLogonCount, 1, REG_DWORD
    WShShell.regwrite winlogon_key DisableCAD, 1, REG_DWORD
WShShell.regwrite runonce_key PostInstall, script or command you wish to run

DB:2.61:Deploying Software Via Task Sequence Hangs At Waiting For Content; Same Packages Deploy Successfully When Deployed As Individual Apps cj

An unusual problem when deploying software as part of a Task Sequence using SCCM 2007
For software with a number of pre-requisites, say for example, a particular version of .NET, we looked at creating Task Sequences for the various packages and sending a single advert for the TS, rather than several different adverts for each app.
However, we found that when we did this, the advertisement status report would sit at waiting fo content, and not progress from there. We can advertise the same packages individually, using normal software-distribution, and it will install within
minutes. We can also use the packages, in the same order, as part of an OSD Task Sequence, and it will install ok - it only seems to hang at waiting for content when we advertise a task-sequence.
We had thought that this might be due to the client trying to download the full content of the Task Sequence before starting the install, however, the latest one we tried was a package to copy 2 shortcuts to the desktop - even this was still stuck at waiting
    for content after 24 hours.
Any ideas why this should be?
What logs would we check for this? There didn't seem to be anything in the smsts.log
    Thanks
    Stan

Do you have RetainSameConnection set on your connection manager? It's required if you are using TSQL BEGIN TRAN/COMMIT TRAN. See eg

    http://microsoft-ssis.blogspot.com/2011/09/ssis-transactions-with-tsql.html
And leaving it out might cause the issue you are seeing, where the second transform uses a new connection and becomes blocked by the transaction.

Is there a way in SCCM 2007 to execute at the client sideindividual commands that are part of a task sequence?
At present I have a boot CD that is run that then starts the task sequence wizard, which pulls down an advertised task sequence.
Whilst testing out new task sequences for OSD, it would be very handy to be able to get a command prompt up and manually execute each command to make debugging easier, and not have to restart the task sequence from scratch if an action fails.
By commands i'm referring for example to
    smsswd.exe /pkg:PAC00C20 /install /basevar: /continueOnError:
    tsenv.exe workstationType=laptop
When i try thesethings though, errors are returned.
    cheers,

    Tim

DB:2.57:Manually Execute Task Sequence Commands 1p

The main reason is that during testing of an updated or new OSD Task Sequence, if part of a task sequence fails, i can make changes to the part thats giving me problems, and immediately test it, instead of having to run the entire task sequence again.
When a task fails 45 minutes into the sequence, its time consuming to have to start it from scratch again.

DB:2.57:Changing Status By Closed Task/Task Groups In Change Management 91

    Hello,

we have the following task template used in a change request (Implement phase):

    - Task Group 1

    - Task 1 (Sequence 1)

    - Task Group 2 (Sequence 2)

    - Task 2

    - Task 3

    - Task 4 (Sequence 2)

    Case 1:

If Task 4 is the set to Closed/Successful after Task 2 and Task 3 are closed, the change status automatically changes from "Implementation In Progress" to "Closed". This is the correct behaviour.

    Case 2:

If Task 4 is set to Closed before Task 2 or Task 3 the change remains in "Impementation In progress" even if Task 3 was set to Closed.

Has anybody any idea what we can to that also in the second case the change status is automatically set to Closed?

    Thanks

This particular problem occurs on various Dell and Acer hardware in discriminantly. The problem is intermittant and does not occurwhen installingVista...OS installs correctly, PC is joined to the domain successfully. As Windows 7 is rebooted the black Windows is preparing to run for the first time screen with the 'Cylon' light flashing from side to side. The Task sequence progress appears, showing the installation of Config Manager, then the Login screen appears and there is no appearance of the rest of the task sequence. If I shutdown at this point I do see the Win-CE background for less than a second before the PC switches off. What am I doing wrong?Anthony Sheehy - MCP, MCITP

DB:2.57:Windows 7 Task Sequence Does Not Complete After Setup Windows And Configmgr Step 1p

    Okay, finally figured this out...
There appear to be two major things that will stop this from working -

First is drivers, hence the different response from differenct hardware. If the correct Network Hardware drivers are not installed the configmgr client installation will fail because it needs to get the installer from the MP.
Second is that the Installation Properties for Setup Windows and ConfigMgr Client should be chosen carefully. Some options will cause the configmgr client installation to fail, and when this fails, the entire task sequence is marked as failed and the rest of the sequence is not installed. I would avoid creating the ConfigMgr Client package manually and create a new package from definition to avoid any nastiness. I only have the following set up: SMSMP=XXXX FSP=XXXX RESETKEYINFORMATION=TRUE

Once these are sorted, everything else falls into place... well, mostly.

    Hi All,
We currently have an MDTWindows 7 buildtask sequence. Part of this task sequence installs Adobe stanard if the computer is a member of the SCCM Adobe Standard Global security group. if not the the build installs Adobe reader
The condition for this step of the task sequenceis as below:
This Group/Step will run if the following conditions are met:
    - Task Sequence Variable Acrobat equals TRUE

The problem I have is that I don't know how this works can you please advise how I can use a security group in AD to set this task sequence variable or if ther are any of the MDT file I need to update to allows this

Found solution for this was to create a variable in the SCCM collection see the link below:

DB:2.55:Detecting An Os Task Sequence In Progress When Launching Winpe With A Refresh Os 93

We have a custom WinPE startup program that sets some variables in MDT based on the deployment technician (for example, the email to notify when the task sequence is complete).

When doing a refresh from a Source OS, the first reboot in WinPE needs manually intervention (to choose the deployment technician) after the first reboot. This doesn't happen
when we boot to Win PE, and build a new PC (no State Capture), as WinPE is only needed the very first phase.
Is there any way I can detect when a Refresh task sequence is in progress to skip/exit the program so it doesn't interfere with the fully automated process.

DB:2.55:Issues Using Hp Ssm Softpaqs With Windows 7 Deployment Task Sequence 89

I have got HP SSM working to install some drivers and HP software that does not install well any other way. It installs the drivers and software fine, but the task sequence always hangs when it gets to the end and tries to exit in a not responding
state. If I force it to close, then the task sequence continues and the rest of the deployment goes on.
I thought maybe the last driver install was hanging, so I tried removing it, but the same thing happened when it got to the end of installing all the software, so it doesn't matter which softpaq installs last.
The task sequence works and all the software and driver softpaqs successfully install. The issue is that MDT does not cleanly exit this part of the task sequence.

DB:2.55:Issues Using Hp Ssm Softpaqs With Windows 7 Deployment Task Sequence 89

Does anyone have anything else to add? I still can't get it to work via SSM so I created separate command line tasks to do silent install of all the HP software.
Everything is working except the BIOS update using the command HPQFlash.exe -s -a.
I think it needs to be able to handle the system being deployed having a BIOS password or not having one. On new system out of the box, there would be no password because I scheduled the password creation task as a task that runs after the bios update
    task.
However, if we are reimaging an existing system, the bios password would already be set and the HPQFLASH command needs to be able to handle entering the password if needed.
The other problem I have is that I get a yellow screen at the end of the deployment because the HP software and driver installation tasks exit with an unexpected code, All the software and drivers other than the BIOS update install successfully,
but I still get several MDT errors about unexpected exit codes.
    Any fix to this?

Of course as will everyting else I do, I'm starting to second guess myself. Previously, I would create an executable named ImageVer.exe. The file version was always set to match the task sequence version. This way I have something I can
inventory via SCCM. I'm thinking of adding ImageVer.exe back into my task sequence. If I do, I doubt I'll ever use the tattoo!

    Hello,
In our environment we have task sequences assigned to different categories ( right click on task sequence name properties general tab Category -http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680542.aspx)
I'm wondering if there is any posibility to create a report, based on
Task sequence - Progress \ Progress of all task sequencesthat will show only the progress of all task sequnces that are assigned to a category, or if can I add another column which will contain the category name.

DB:2.53:Progress Of All Task Sequences fm

    Hi
You can have a look at the v_TaskSequencePackage view, it contains the Category.
You can add it to your report and filter by this without problem (have a look at Progress of OS Deployment Task sequence that uses the ts_type instead of category to give you an idea)

DB:2.53:Sequencing Of Task Can Be Removed? 3m

    Hi All,

    Im working on AR System7.1.

I am facing a Problem in closing the changes.Bcz,the task which are attached to the change are getting stuck in the "Stagged" Status and the Change are stuck in "Implementation In Progress "status.

To avoid this can we remove the sequencing of Task.Where can we do this.

The user just want the task to get attached to the Change. He does not need the sequence concept.

I have one more query too when we attach all the task attached to the change can we provide same sequence number.

By doing it,Is that same of not having a sequence concept to the change?

For All ideas Thanks in advance!!

DB:2.53:Sequencing Of Task Can Be Removed? 3m

When you are adding the Tasks you can change the sequence after you have added them. For example if you add 3 tasks the sequence will automatically be Sequence 1, 2 and 3. You can change Sequence 2 and 3 to be 1 as well.

Another little trick is when you are adding your Tasks if you add the Tasks all at once then the tasks will all be the same sequence of 1. To add multiple tasks at once hold down the control key and click on the various tasks that you want and then click relate. You will see all of them have a sequence of 1. IF you add a Task AFTER you add a bunch of them, it will automatically take the next sequence, that being sequence 2.

DB:2.52:Windows 8 And The Task Sequence Progress Dialog ja

Hello. I'm setting up a deployment for Windows 8. Although the deployment uses a custom Build Capture WIM for the base, the final deployment has many tasks in the State Restore phase. My problem is in showing the Task Sequence dialog
during this phase. If the HIDESHELL property is set to YES, then all one see's is Windows 8 saying Installing Apps (no task sequence dialog). If HIDESHELL is set to NO, the Modern UI is shown by default and the user again doesn't see the task
sequence dialog but can otherwise play around. If you manually switch to the Desktop, the Task Sequence dialog is present and you can watch it progress as expected, but the computer can still be used by the user.
I'm toying with scripting a switch to the Desktop after each reboot so the task sequence dialog is at least visible, but I'd still rather user the HIDESHELL to keep people frominterrupting the progress. Is there a setting or script or something
I should be including in my task sequence that allows for the task sequence dialog to be visible when either HIDESHELL is used or when the Modern UI is displayed?

DB:2.52:Windows 8 And The Task Sequence Progress Dialog ja

    Good Catch.
IMHO - Should be a by design answer for Windows 8. Nothing really to do with MDT, cause in Windows 8 the Explorer gets hidden which automatically crops the ModernUI.
There are some tweaks to get rid of Modern UI, however would refrain from using that.
If you don't see any responses in a day or two. Best bet is to post this on connect.microsoft.com or email

DB:2.52:Canceling A Task Sequence Deployment Whose Status Is In Progress 3k

I have a task sequence deployment that is currently In progress. The state of the task sequence is running. The last status message ID is 10005. This task sequence installs Adobe Reader, Flash, and a Java Run-time
Environment. It is not throwing any errors however it has been hanging for over 12 hours. It was manually deployed on a workstation via Microsoft System Center's Software Center. The installation status of this task sequence in the Software
Center program is Installing. I want to end this task sequence deployment. Is that possible to achieve in SCCM?

DB:2.52:Canceling A Task Sequence Deployment Whose Status Is In Progress 3k

None of those processes are running. For the last 3 hours I've been thinking the deployment is hanging because of a maladapted command line argument (when installing Adobe Reader silently). However I edited the task sequence and tried to deploy
it on a different workstation and the same thing happened. Is there anything I need to do to propagate a task sequence edit? That is, if I edit a task sequence, and click apply, does it automatically take effect?

    Hi Rich980,

From your post, you encountered the following error when you run SQL maintenance plan to reorganize index on your SharePoint server 2007.

Executing query ALTER INDEX [IX_TimerJobHistory_Status_Id] ON [dbo....: 70% complete
    End Progress Progress: 2011-02-28 10:28:55.60
    Source: Reorganize Index Task

    Executing query USE [SharePoint_Config]
    .: 72% complete End Progres...
The package execution fa... The step failed.

There are many reasons can result in reorganizing index failed. One of common reasons is corrupted page. In order to help us move more quickly to a resolution, please
    collect the following information:

Which databases did you select when you execute the plan? If you select multiple databases, try to use one database each time, then execute the plan, in this way, we can find
    out the problematic database.

View the SQL Server error log by using SQL Server Management Studio or any text editor. By default, the error log is located at Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.n\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG
    and ERRORLOG.n files.

What is your SQL servers version?

Did you select ignore databases where the status is not online option when you execute the plan?

Finally, you can also post your issue into SQL forum for more help.

    DB:2.52:Workgroup Osd Task Sequence d8

I need to deploy and OSD task sequence so that the end product is a Windows 7 OS in a workgroup i.e. not domain joined. It still needs to be managed by Configmgr and get scep updates, windows updates etc...
In the task sequence itself there is a step called Setup Windows and ConfigMgr. Is this where I can add some command switches or is there a better way to ensure the client is installed as part of the tasks sequence so that it can be fully managed?

    DB:2.52:Workgroup Osd Task Sequence d8

The Setup Windows and ConfigMgr task always installs the ConfigMgr client agent -- this is not optional. For workgroup clients, adding the SMSMP property to the property box of this task (as noted by narcoticoo) is generally recommended to ensure
that the client agent knows which MP to use during client installation.Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com

could anyone provide an example of that?

Hi, right now there is no simple way to do this, you need to provide your own script logic. Creating a log file using trascript works, but getting that information back into the BDD log requires you to work on your own right now...MCP, MCDST, MCT, MVP Windows Server - Setup/Deployment

I am trying to copy files to a machine during the OSD build process with different results on x86 and x64 systems and I cannot figure it out.
My task sequence for this is made up of two steps :
Step one - Task sequence 'Run Command Line'
Command Line = copyfiles.cmd (File is part of package)
Disable 64-bit file system redirection is checked.
    copyfiles.cmd file text = cmd /c START modules /WAIT xcopy %~DP0*.* c:\windows\*.* /E /Y
Step two - Task sequence 'Run Command Line'
Command Line = regedit.exe /s c:\windows\info.reg (Reg file is part of package)
    Start in: = c:\windows
Disable 64-bit file system redirection is checked.

This works perfectly for x86 but Step one does not copy the files on x64.
Can anyone tell me how to resolve this ?

    Hi
in preparation for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 I installed the service pack on a newly staged pc and it works.

    without any error logged.
The service pack is installed right before the pc preparation is started. I start the installation with /quit /nodialog /norestart option. An additional task will reboot the pc after service pack 1 is installed.
Are there any limitations known regarding the installation in a task sequence. If needed I can also add the cbs log file but the size is approximatly 180kb.
    Thanks in advance.

There is no need to inject SP1 when you build you reference image... When the product ships, just replace the OS Install Package with a new version that contains SP1.

    Hello all,

when I do a PXE boot, select a fresh install, select the task sequence - windows 7 build, and then I get only one more question :it gets to the part of the task sequence : Install Operating System and the standard LTI  installation progress shows INSTALLING IMAGE, and then a few seconds later behind this screen a window : Install windows, Select the operating System you want to install : the only option I get is windows 7 ultimate.but.. I defined that already in my task sequence... so why still asking ?I imported the windows 7 RC - and it showed all the variations (basic, home, premium, professional and ultimate), so I selected in my tasksequence to use the windows 7 Professional version (and also tried to select the windows 7 ultimate.wim)I do not want this prompt to select the operating system..... I did define that already in my task sequence (unattend.xml)I have looked at all the SKIPxxxxxx  options, but I cannot determine which option I could use to block this prompt....

I believe if you do not want to be prompted for an OS you have to make a setting in the customsettings.ini. Once you do the wizard will skip this step and automatically install the OS, or actually you define what task sequnce to run.

When you set execution policy you need to specify the scope. I suggest that you set the execution policy for each script you run, that way you will not need to leave traces of powershell settings in the OS when the deployment is done

    Hi Techs

In our scenario, we are runningan upgrade of an XYZ applicationusing SCCM. During Pilot, we found users are executing XYZ related applications duringXYZ
upgrade process. This is making software deployment to fail.

As a strategy, we planned to restart the machine during start and at the end of task sequence to perform deployment. As part of Task Sequence, we are restarting machines
with 5 minutes warning message (advising users for machines will be restarted and also not to use any application during deployment), we still finds that user logs on and accesses the applications. This is failing our deployment.

Is there any way, we can deploy application and restricting users not to log on (or not to use any application )?

If we dont restart computer then just like OSD deployment, Is it possible to get SCCM Background screen that hides actual desktop environment? This will allow
user to see that application is installing and also not allowing them to use their computer. Please advise, how can we achieve it or if there is any other solution for this underlying issue.

    Thanks Regards

Has anybody had any experience trying to append/insert either a task template or a adhoc task into a task group at runtime?

As an example, I have a Work Order that was created with a related task group. The task group has 5 tasks with a sequence of 1 through 5. The ask is that when the adhoc task is added and set to sequence 3, that the adhoc task is enabled at the same time as the sequence 3 task from the task group.

    I've found 3 forms: TMS:Task (of course), TMS:Flow and TMS:Association all play a part.

Has anybody done this customization before, and if so, can you provide any guidance?

    Thank you.

    Hi,
    I am using SCCM 2012 R2 on Windows 2012 R2.
I'm trying to setup a standalone task sequence media. I am doing so with a CD/DVD set setting of Unlimited media size. It creates the ISO just fine at a size around 8GB.
I mount this ISO in a ISO mounting tool, copy paste the contents of the ISO onto a FAT32 formatted USB stick, I boot of this on a workstation with UEFI boot. It starts perfectly fine goes to my Apply Operating System task sequence step and wipes the C: drive,
it starts Appling image 2 from long line of letters and numbers processes for a good 10 min to maybe 80% of the progress bar and then it fails with:

My task sequence does not have a Auto Apply Drivers step or a

The OS I in the Task Sequence is Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise that I captured with all updates as of earlier in March 2014.

The SCCM Stand Alone Task Sequencer tries to suppress UI on the programs it calls directly, this is by design. So the fact that you are getting weird UI behavior is not surprising.

As a work around, try adding a cmd.exe window around the command:
    cmd.exe /c %DeployRoot%\ThinInstaller\Thininstaller.exe /CM -search A -action INSTALL -includerebootpackages 1,3,4 -showprogress -noreboot -log %Windir%\Temp\DeploymentLogs\ThinInstallResults.log

I have a Windows 7 Upgrade Task Sequence. When I create Task Sequence mediafor a DVD, the Task Sequence progress is shown during the OS portion (settings and files capture). But when I create the Task Sequence media for a USB drive, it
is silent and I don't see the progress or my HTA prompts during the OS portion. Is there some variable I need to set to see the progress for a USB device? This is on a Windows XP machine.

    Thanks

    DB:2.50:Task Sequence 3p

I've run into this as well and I opened a case with MS about it. Apparently it's a bug (for real!) with the USB create task media process in that nothing is displayed from the system context to the end user while in Windows so therefore you do not see the
progress bar. You do however see it in PE because at this point you are now running as the system. To get around this and at Microsoft's suggestion, I created task sequence media for a DVD set instead, mounted the .ISOand copied the contents to a USB
drive. Or if you've already created a USB drive with the image andother packages on it, you really only need the following:

    boot (folder)
    SMS (folder)
    autorun.inf
    bootmgr
    volumeID.xml
I'm not using MDT 2010 Update 1 yet, just 2010 so I don't know if this is fixed in update 1 or not. I have been using this method for about a year though. You also have to make sure your entire TS and it's reference packages are less than 8 GB.

luckily i don't make too many customizations to the WIM itself, so recreating it wasn't too bad. for those with more complex base images i imagine needing to recreate them if they want a progress bar will be a bit of a pain

So we got the 64-bit version of the Venue 11 Pro 7130 MS. I gave the thing another go eventually got it to work. Below are the steps needed. Please note, that I was using SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 in order to image since I haven't done the R2 upgrade. If you
were to upgrade to R2, things would be a lot easier.
First off the bat, the boot image. The boot image NEEDS to be done with MDT 2013 ADK 8.1. While I had ADK 8.1 installed on my system, the boot images I were creating were still being made with the old DISM. Therefore I had to create a boot image with
    MDT 2013 on a Windows 8.1 system.
Next, here are the task sequence adjustments that worked for me.
For the UEFI format partition disk in Initialization up top, you can remove everything except for the OSDisk (Primary). I set the variable for both to OSDisk.
For the UEFI format partition disk in Preinstall, EFI, MSR, and OSDisk are required. Again, the variable for OSDisk should be set. In my case, it was OSDisk.
Lastly, I disabled Set Variable for Drive Letter in the Install process before Apply Operating System Image.

dont do it that way in configmgr, choose the osd node, right click on drivers and choose import driver, point to the folder where you extracted the video driver and it will import any found. Use that driver in a driver package and link that in your task sequence using the Apply Driver Package section of the task sequence. if you are determined to go the setup.exe -s setup.iss way then remember that the default setup.iss file is not geared towards a silent install you'd need to do a setup.exe -r to record a new setup.iss file which is most likely going to be dumped in c:\windows or c:\winnt which you must then cut and paste to the folder with the drivers in I wouldn't bother, I'd import the driver instead. cheers niall

There's very little documentation out there on installing a virtual application using OSD, so i thought i'd share what i discovered thus far, and then hopefully get further clarification on steps i may be missing, or incorrectly performing.
I am trying to install two applications as part of my OSD task sequence that are AppV packages. I do not want to stream these applications; i want them installed locally on the machine in a download and execute format. We are currently not interested
in streaming any applications at the moment.
My site settings configuration is as follows: under the advertised programs client agent, i have allow virtual applications enabled. On the distribution point properties, i do not have either allow clients to transfer content from the this distribution
point using bits, http, https, etc.. or enable virtual application streaming enabled. From reading the white paper, this is not necessary to enable either of those if we plan on just caching the application on the machine.
In the task sequence, i created afolder called virtual applications, and put both appv installs underneath. As you know you don't have any pgm line options with these. they are just selected. (PS. when i install these apps using the msi standalone
option manually outside of OSD, they install and work perfectly fine).
When i advertise my task sequence andif i choose access content directly from the distribution point, the task sequence fails immediately saying source is not on the DP for the appv package.
If i choose download, it seems like it starts the build, but it fails after downloading the wim with an error 80070002. Don't think that has anything to do the fact of appv (maybe you cannotperform a download with a large wim), but the point is it
    didn't stop me from progressing.
I've also tried to run the Msi install as its own package in the task sequence, and that failed as well.
    So my questions are:
    1) Is it based on how a task sequence is delivered (run from dp, download to cache) actually determines the appv packaged apps themselves?
    2) Can you perform the standalone msi install running in a task sequence?
3)is there anything i am missing, either configruation of appv package, site settings, osd, that woudl allow me to get these appv packages installed and running during the OSD build cached.

There is a cadenza in the trumpet part, and i simply want to write in the other orchestra parts, "tacet until cue" during the trumpet cadenza. The problem is that if the orchestral part is one sequence in the arrange page, the tacet part becomes 30 or 40 measures long. If I cut out the long tacet part and insert a small "empty sequence, then pack the track as a folder in the arrange page, then on the score page, there is a gap in between the sequences which won't look good as a printed part... Can anyone think of an alternative?

    Hi,

I am using VI SDK 2.5 with C#.net. I have three operations executing in sequence:

    PowerOffVM_Task

    PowerOnVM_Task

    SuspendVM_Task

They operate on the same VM whose initial power state is Enabled (PoweredOn). For Vmware, they are asynchronous operations. But for my code, I have blocked (synch operations) them so that they will execute one after other. For blocking each task, I am checking the task object's "info.state"

property. Unless it gets completed, I loop over it after 1 sec sleep.

The 1st operation executes successfully showing me the progress in percentage (I get percentage using Task ManagedObjectReference). The 2nd operation, using Task MOR, shows me that the task has completed. The 3rd operation shows me error "Another task in progress". So for 1st task, I didn't face any issue. Lets come to 2nd and 3rd task.

I debugged and was quick enough to see in Vmware Infrastructure Client window that even though the 2nd task was in progress, Vmware SDK returned me it as completed. Due to this, my 3rd task began and clashed with 2nd task, which is already running. Hence, it gave me error on 3rd task "Another task in progress".

Is anyone aware of such unexpected behaviour of Vmware SDK or am I missing something?

    Any clue appreciated.

    DB:2.48:Task Object Related Problem 11

    Hi Steve,

I am trying to download from URL:

    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=228007package_id=308982release_id=666495

Unfortunately, my company has blocked this website (it has blocked download of freewares/sharewares). So I am trying to compile java axis samples that come with vmware. But as I am newbie in java, I am getting too many framework related errors. Trying to solve that.

After solving those, I will modify the VmPowerOps.java file to run 3 operations in sequence and test that.

    Thanks,

    Sam

DB:2.48:Progress Bar To Show Completing On Work On A Slide 33

    Hey Folks,

    Here is my idea:

In the current story that I am building the user needs to complete 4 tasks from a given slide, let's call it slide "A". Each task is essentially a button that will take the user to a different slide, have an activity, then return the user to slide "A". On the return trip to "A" the button that they clicked on will be disabled so that they do not do that activity again. As the activities are being completed, I want to have a progress bar fill up at the bottom of the screen to show the user how far along they are. Once the progress bar is filled, it will turn into a button taking them to the next part of the story.

Here is what I know already:

I can execute the advanced actons to 1. Disable the completed buttons

    2. Set the variables that would turn the progress bar into a button (hide the previous bar and enable / show the button)

Here is where I get lost:

I think that I need to set up and/or logic to show the variables. In my head, making the "25% Complete" progress bar show would have logic such as below. Side note: all variables are set to 0 by default, completion sets the variables to 1.

    IF (Variable1) 0 OR

    (Variable2) 0 OR

    (Variable3) 0 OR

    (Variable4) 0 OR

    THEN Show ProgressBar25

But how would I get the 50% Progress Bar to display while hiding the 25% Progress Bar? Would it be something like:

    IF (Variable1) 0 AND (Variable2) 0 OR

    (Variable1) 0 AND (Variable3) 0 OR

    (Variable1) 0 AND (Variable4) 0 OR

    (Variable2) 0 AND (Variable3) 0 OR

    (Variable2) 0 AND (Variable4) 0 OR

    (Variable3 0 AND (Variable4) 0 OR

    THEN Show ProgressBar50

    Hide ProgressBar25

Would all of the conditional statements need to be in the same action so that as the user enters the slide, it would hide / disable / show the corrent information? Am I overthinking this and missed a simpler way to do this?

    Thanks,

    Cody

I have a silent install that only works correctly when installed as a user as it writes into the user's %APPDATA% folders. I have to include it as part of a task sequence, but I'm not sure how to best approach this since task sequence applications
are installed as a local system user.
Any suggestions? Repackaging isn't an option.

    DB:2.47:Run Task Sequence Silently pp

    Hi,
I have set up a fairly simple task sequence that first calls a software distribution program to download a file into SCCM local cache and then copy it to a specified location, then amend/add a couple of registry entries, and then change the attributes on
    the copied file.
It all seems to work very well. However....
Even though the Program part of the Task Sequence is set to run 'hidden' and with 'suppress program notifications', the whole Task Sequence itself does
not run silently. I get the 'Program is set to run in 5mins' pop-up on the destination computer.
Is there a way to tell the Task Sequence to run silently - it doesn't seem to be anywhere in the properties?

    DB:2.47:Run Task Sequence Silently pp

Jeez.... nice and easy then ;-)
Hey Microsoft, wouldn't a 'run silent' tick box have been easier..... :-)
Thanks Jorgen, I'll give it a try.

    Hi
i came across the problem that i need to prohibit a user logon whilst installing a software package using a task sequence.
the task sequence has only 3 steps and looks like this:
    Restart Computer
    Install Software Package
    Restart Computer
this works nice but a user is able to logon during th 'install software package' part.
is there a way to prohibit the user logon. maybe it is possible to displaya message instead the logon gina.
maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

DB:2.47:Osd Task Sequence Reinstalling All Windows Updates 9f

I have a weird issue where my task sequence for deploying Windows 7 reinstalls the windows updates that are already part of the base image that was captured. It isn't a huge issue, but it does add significant time to the deployment.
Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot?
The updates that are installing are part of the group that is deployed to the same collection that I have the task sequence deployed.

DB:2.47:Osd Task Sequence Reinstalling All Windows Updates 9f

Jason - you would think. I didn't do anything particularly complicated. The reference image was created via build and capture using pxe boot. I only included a few drivers, software updates and a couple of applications.
I'll give building a new image a shot and let you know how it goes.

The Windows Task Manager has a few options available. I always have the "Hide When Minimized" option selected. Almost always that causes the task manager, when minimized, to show up as an icon in the SysTray. The icon is a bar graph that shows the cpu usage. Double clicking the icon causes the normal task manager window to pop up. Also, the task manager button on the task bar goes away (I guess that's the hidding part).

I had to reboot due to an application install and sure enough the Task Manager started working correctly.

Torsten is correct: setting that variable was only valid for older, stand-alone MDT to my knowledge.
When setting the Org name in your client settings, make sure you do it in your default client settings package also (note that this is one of the few settings in the default client settings package that you should change).

What is the deal with 5 minute long hourglass waits??? Am I crashed or is it
still thinking?? Task Manager says Not Responding. Back from a cup of coffee
we're live again. Hey isn't there some rule of thumb that if a process takes
longer than a minute it's good programming to throw a progress indicator on
screen, i.e. MTD Hiding lines 50% done?? Or a bar filling up, etc.
Is this in the works or will it always be a throw of the dice whether or not
    to hit the reset switch?

I agree with all that's been said. It's tough to work without knowing if you're really working or not. I also like Leo's chime for a "stop" button when performing most tasks (opening files, regen idw views, feature calculation, etc...)MechMan

DB:2.47:How To Hide/Show Task Sequence For Specific Users/User Groups? c7

    Hi,
what are best practices of showing/hiding MDT 2010 task sequences for specific users/user groups in win pe environment?

DB:2.47:How To Hide/Show Task Sequence For Specific Users/User Groups? c7

did you ever get this to work? where did you but the VBS file? on the boot image? where? any info would be greatly appreciated

Yes, but I had to setup IIS and use a web service call AD to check to see if a user was part of a group.
I usedMaikKoster's Deployment Webservice to talk to AD
    you can grab here:
    http://mdtcustomizations.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Installation%20GuidereferringTitle=Documentation

you can then edit Customsetting.ini and have it call the service to see if a user is part of a group based on the credentials they entered in on the MDT boot disk. Something like this:
    [Settings]
    Priority=INT, SetTaskSequenceLawDepartment, Default
    Properties=MyCustomProperty, IsUserGroupMemberLawDepartment, UsersGroupLaw, Username, Groupname

    [INT]
    UsersGroupLaw=LawDepartment

    [SetTaskSequenceLawDepartment]
    WebService=http://www.yourserver.com/Deployment%20Webservice/ad.asmx/IsUserGroupMember
    Parameters=UserID,UsersGroupLaw
    UserID=Username
    UsersGroupLaw=Groupname
    IsUserGroupMemberLawDepartment=boolean
    SubSection=Law-%IsUserGroupMemberLawDeparment%
    [Law-True]
    WizardSelectionProfile=LawDepartmenttasksequences
    SkipAppsOnUpgrade=YES
    SkipApplications=YES[Default]SkipDeploymentType=NOOSInstall=YES

You also need to create a selection profile with the tasks sequences you want the user to see

How can i stop each new window i open fromdisappearingto the task bar whenever i move my mouse to another part of the screen? Also sometimes when i am typing into a field on an open window ,my mouse will jump off the open window when i hit the
space bar (if not maximised) and the window will auto hide to the task bar. It's reallyannoying.

DB:2.47:Stop Auto Hiding Of Open Windows 37

    Hi walt1970,
-Does the window screen minimize completely when you hover your mouse?
-Are you referring to moving the mouse in taskbar or is it in the same window?
-Was the window screen opening without any issue earlier?
    -Are you using a laptop?
If yes, try disabling the touchpad function and check if that helps you. Contact the manufacturer for instructions to do the same.
    Method 1: Try these steps:
    a. Navigate to the location:Control Panel\Ease of Access\Ease of Access Center\Make the mouse easier to use.
    b. Uncheck the options:
    - Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse.
    - Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen.
    c. Click Apply. Click OK.
