DB:3.63:Hangs When Clicking Link In Email To Launch Browser x3

Hi Ray, when you click on links in the browser does it take as long to open? If it does then the pc probably just needs a good cleaning up. If not, clean out all the mail folders of stuff you don't need anymore and then compress your mail folders. Then send yourself a couple of links in an email, make one of the links to a page with just text and the other a link to a page with heavy graphics and see if they both open slowly. If they don't then your antivirus pre-scanning the link in the email may be the reason for the delay. If both open slowly then you may just have a corrupt file.

    Let me know, Sean

Make sure NOT to remove "personal data" when you uninstall a Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

I thought that with te -no-remote options problems like this should occur. Is there something I'm missing or is there a fix for this problem?

DB:3.52:Firefox Already Running Error With Multiple Profiles And -No-Remote Set cp

It really is a very simple solution. Firefox checks whether or not firefox is running in the processes. I noticed this at first when I named my installer firefox.exe. It could not install because it said firefox was already running however nothing more but the installer called firefox.exe was running. In other words, simply renaming the firefox.exe to somthing like firefox-v3.exe should not enable firefox to check if firefox is running, as the process name now is firefox-v3.exe :)

Not the safest solution though, but I reckon it should work (did not test between v3 and v4

I have just up dated both Firefox and Thunderbird but a problem still exists. When I open a link offered on an email in Thunderbird by simply clicking on it, it in opens up in an already open window in Firefox as expected and that new tab is active and works. But it deactivates all the other tabs and activities in that window. Another clue is that instead of a full size tab being produced for the new site, a little dimple shows up, approximately a quarter inch wide. If I import more sites in from Thunderbird they are deposited within this same dimple. I use colour tabs and as each new site is imported the colour changes on that singular dimple. If however I remember to open the link from Thunderbird by right clicking on it and choosing 'open link in browser', it installs properly and the remainder of the Firefox window with all its various tabs remains active and accessible. Any ideas?

    Hi there,
Please excuse me if a make a few mistakes, I am French ;)

I come here because firefox and thunderbird are not working together anymore. This is what happens :
    - Firefox and Thunderbird are opened
    - I click on a link in an email
    - A few seconds after that a Firefox windows pops up. The title is : "Close Firefox", the content is : "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

    Second case :
    - Firefox is closed and Thunderbird is open
    - I click on a link in an email
    - A few seconds after that a Firefox windows pops up as expected. Firefox opens the link as expected but doesn't opens the other tabs as usual (when i start FF it re-opens previous tabs)

    Third case :
    - Firefox and Thunderbird are opened
    - I click on a link to send an email (a href="mailto:......@.....")
    - A few seconds after that a Thunderbird windows pops up. The title is : "Close Thunderbird", the content is : "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

As in the second case, if TB is closed when i click on the mailto, TB opens properly and send the email.

If Internet Explorer is set as my default browser, it works fine for "Thunderbird - link - IE" but the "IE- mailto - TB" still doesn't work.

I already looked up for some answers on google but can't find something which works.

Thank you in advance for your answers.

    1. Download Safari if you do not already have it.
    2. In Safari, choose "Preferences" from the menu.

My Application Virtualization Management Console has started to behave oddly when importing applications. It has been working perfectly and I have about 10 packages and 30 or so applications.
However it now seems to be importing new apps and setting them to the incorrect package. For example:
I import and app I have streamed, say Thunderbird. A new package gets created and it works fine. If I then import another app, say Firefox, it seems to link the Firefox app to the Thunderbird package, and they therefore fail to load. A new package for the
    Firefox is not created.
If I try and create the package seperately I get the following: Unexpected error occurred. Unable to create the new Package. Please report the following error code to your system administrator. Error code: 0000B062
If I delete the Thunderbird and Firefox apps and the Thunderbird package, then try the process the other way round - ie import Firefox first - that works, but then Thunderbird gets linked to the Firefox package.
Its nothing to do with the apps themselves, as this happens with any apps. Its as if App-V is refusing to add more than 1 more package.
Any help woudl be appreciated. I really dont want to have to start from scratch. I am using App-V 4.6 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Unfortunately, the profile invoked for the default browser must not be called with the -no-remote option. If that profile is already used by a "normal" instance you'll get the profile-in-use error. Thus, the only option I'd see is to have a separate profile for the default browser (not invoked with -no-remote) which is never used with the other instances running with the -no-remote option. That might work.

We use, with my wife, two thunderbird profiles. Sometimes we want them to run simultaneously so we launch thunderbird with -no-remote parameter. Unfortunately this parameter, when firefox is already launched and when we try to open link from email in thunderbird, causes "Firefox is already running [...]" error. This is really annoying beacuse we need to manuallly copy-paste the link into the firefox.
I googled a lot trying to find a solution. I even found that there is a bug in mozilla's bugtracker here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=382477

Well I'm sorry I did a "silly" thing like following instructions on Mozilla's own website. And I clearly did have to since nothing else I'd tried so far had worked.

DB:3.06:When I Click On A Mailto: Link, Thunderbird Says Its Already Running But There Is No Thunderbird Process Running. 7z

I opened Firefox on a freshly rebooted PC, went to click on a mailto: link in a webpage and get the error message that Thunderbird is already running. Thunderbird is not running, but will not open for sending email.

The cause could have something to do with Firefox not opening Thunderbird correctly, or that Thunderbird is not getting the correct permissions to run properly when called by Firefox.

When I start Thunderbird from it's icon, I get a Windows 7 prompt asking me if I want to allow this program to make changes on my computer. If Thunderbird is started by Firefox asking it to create a mail message, as is the case with a mailto: link, It never gets this permission requester.

I have tried troubleshooting information regarding Thunderbird already running error messages, however, there are no .lock files associated with Thunderbird nor is it's ability to send/receive mail when run from it's own icon affected by this problem. I therefore think it's a problem with the way in which Firefox calls Thunderbird to create an email message.

There is the additional problem that Thunderbird has to have administrative privileges to run, but doesn't automatically get them. This might require a separate bug report submission be generated to the Thunderbird developers to fix this problem, but is dependent on what they can do about that.

DB:3.06:When I Click On A Mailto: Link, Thunderbird Says Its Already Running But There Is No Thunderbird Process Running. 7z

Check the target field in the Thunderbird desktop shortcut and make sure that you do not start Thunderbird with the -no-remote switch or have set the environment variable MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 (Control Panel System Advanced Environment variables).

I use Thunderbird (31.1.2) on a Mac (OS X 10.9.4). I frequently need to proof e-mails that contain a number of links (for a digital marketing campaign). When I click a link in the e-mail, Firefox (32.0.3) opens or becomes active, and if I have NO other tabs, will open my link. But when I switch back to Thunderbird, and click a second link, Firefox will again become the active app but my link will NOT open.

Again, if I have NO open tabs, the first click always works, but no other clicked links will work beyond that.

If I switch to Safari as my default browser, everything works fine. So I'm forced to do that as a solution but I really don't like it.

I think i've found how to fix this issue when it appears. Don't know what caused it to happen, but that's up to the devs.

In Thunderbird, you need to re-register http and https to make them open with Firefox (or open well with firefox in this case).
    How to to this?

Well... open the about:config in thunderbird. You can achieve this by clicking configuration-editor in the advanced tab.
search for the strings: network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https and network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http. Set both to "true".

The next time you click on a link from within Thunderbird, it will ask you to set wich program you'd like to open it with.
Be Aware now!!! Firefox may already be listed in there, but don't pick that one. instead... choose to browse for the app and point to the binairy/exe of firefox.
    (for example: /usr/bin/firefox or c:/program files/mozilla/firefox.)

You will notice that firefox now does open up with the page you just clicked on.
If it doesn't right away... just restart thunderbird and check again.

Please respond if this works for you too on all platforms. It's more interesting to know it does than if it's not.

    Greetz,
    Kenny

There used to be a way to click on a link (URL) in an email that would open a new tab/window in the browser (Firefox), BUT stay in Thunderbird - similar to what Ctrl-Left-click does in Google search results in Firefox.

My work flow is usually to open several links, staying in Thunderbird and then when I'm done - go to Firefox to look at them all. E.g. I get a stackexchange weekly summary email, click on all the topics that look interesting and then, when I'm done selecting them, go look at them in Firefox.

I don't want to be forced to jump back and forth for every link, one at a time. This used to work.

Is there a preference or add-on that will do this - or anything else?

DB:3.02:Click On Url In Email, Open New Tab In Browser, But Stay In Same Thunderbird Email 3a

    Question owner

Thanks for all the links. I haven't checked them out yet, but I've probably already used a few of them.

I got around the millimeters thing long ago - got most of it to work in inches.

What throws me is that there is an unprintable margin, a header margin and a body margin and all of those get duplicated at least 6 times and for two dimensions - for every real and virtual printer the application has ever seen.

When I add a new printer, I invariably have text clipped off either side of the page and things like headers printing over body text.

There is no way AFAIK to actually fix this from the gui (although there is a dialog that tries to). I have to go into prefs and look at the last printer that works right and experiment with setting the values for the new one based on what worked before.

It used to take me many hours and many attempts to get it right. Now, having done it so many times, I usually can muddle through it in less than an hour.

It would be great if the gui really worked for this and actually showed me how all these parameters affected the resulting print. It tries to do some of that, but not enough to actually work.

As for the rest of the references I have seen so far, they're "references". (References are documents that remind you of the details of things you already know how to do.) They list parameters and sometimes list what the acceptable values are and maybe even what they actually do, but I have to guess what parameter to look at in the first place and this is especially difficult for the many optional parameters which aren't even in the stock config files to begin with. First, you have to discover them somehow and then add them manually.

It beats the heck out of having to study and then modify and rebuild the applications from source. I'm glad they're there. But they're sure not easy to use.

    Hello ,

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    Windows:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.

Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING:Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Please report back to say if this helped you!

    Thank you.

A way to do that is to edit the registry and add the -p "profile" switch to those protocol links. There is however no guarantee that such a change stays after an update and Firefox may complain.

Another way is not to use the profile manager, but select the profile for the default browser once in the PM to set the profile for the default browser, so that profile is marked as Default=1 in profiles.ini. Then place a checkmark in the box to never ask and use a desktop shortcut to start each Firefox version with its own profile, so you do not have to use the PM as that would set another profile with Default=1

Have just noticed that the interference is happening without Thunderbird as well. Seems to be more likely to happen when the mouse in in the tool bar area, for some reason.

DB:2.99:Firefox Is Not Launched From Thunderbird And Endnote Url k3

I used to be able to click on a link from Thunderbird and Firefox could be opened, but now it doesn't do anything. Also, when I click on a URL from Endnote, Firefox doesn't open.

DB:2.99:Firefox Is Not Launched From Thunderbird And Endnote Url k3

First thing to check: is Firefox set as your default browser.

    Go to Tools Options
    Click the Advanced panel
    Click on General tab

You will find at right bottom a button Check now, click it. A little window will tell you if Firefox is default, then choose.
Restart Thunderbird and test a link.

DB:2.99:Error On Opening Links In Firefox From Email In Thunderbird x3

Using Windows 7 sp1, 32 bit. My default browser is set to Firefox, and all http or https links from any program are opened in Firefox. There is no problem doing this from any program except from Thunderbird.

It's fine if Firefox is not already open, but when Firefox is already open and I click on a hyperlink in an email from within Thunderbird I get the message:

"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window."

I've seen some comments on this error message, but all of them see to relate to problems with Firefox. However, since all other programs are able to open hyperlinks in Firefox without any problem, it seems to me that the problem must be with Thunderbird and the way it interacts with Firefox.

Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you!

Tools menu (alt+T) options attachments incoming.

Locate and delete any references to HTM, HTML or Firefox.

Restart Thunderbird and see if that helps.

DB:2.98:How To Put A Tab For Thunderbird Inside Firefox? 7d

I'd like to be able to open Thunderbird from inside Firefox and have Thunderbird reside on a tab there. Now to use Thunderbird, I have to open a separate window. Maybe I just didn't set it up correctly when I installed it? Both applications work well (and seamlessly).

I don't want another program. I just want to be able to open a tab for my existing Thunderbird inside Firefox. I'm not smart enough to figure out what that answer pointed to. And none of the Thunderbird icons that I have point to a location. When I browse and find Thunderbird, there is no location on my computer that I can find. Sorry, I'll just continue to use two separate windows.

DB:2.98:Links Open A New, Empty Firefox Window 73

    Thunderbird 24.2.0 on Fedora 18 (3.10.4-100.fc18.x86_64)

Prior to version 17, when I clicked a link in Thunderbird, the link opened in a new tab in Firefox. After upgrading to 17 and now to 24, when I click a link in Thunderbird a new, empty Firefox window opens. I have to manually copy and paste the links in order to open them.

I have more for you to try :-)
Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link and try Safe Mode for Thunderbird http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39t=388354

DB:2.98:Firefox Wont Close When Accesed Via A Link From Thunderbird Ussing Hp W/Win 7 z9

I have a friend that purchased a new HP computer. It is running Win 7, 64 bit. He installed Firefox and Thunderbird just fine. When he is in Thunderbird and is reading email, if it has a link and clicks on it, it opens Firefox. When he closes it and tries to access Firefox (either through an email link or directly) Firefox will not open. The only way he can get it is to shut down and restart the computer. During shutdown, a message shows that Firefox is still running and asks to close it. He called HP support (yes India) and they told him that since the software didn't come installed on the computer, he was out of luck and would have to use Internet Explorer.

DB:2.98:Thunderbird Link Causes Ff4b9 To Err - Ff Is Already Running Close Or Restart d3

Thunderbird 3.1.7 opens URL links in a browser. With FF4b9 is works the first time to open FF, but if I click on a second URL link within Thunderbird it gives the following error: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." In fact it provokes two error dialogues one after the other. In order to get the URL link to work, I have to close down FF. The URL link then works but still provokes the error dialogue. It is not until the URL link is used a second time that the link doesn't work and I have to close FF.

Cor-el, thanks for the reply and it has solved my problem. I didn't use the command line switch but it made me consider reverting to my default profile. This did not cause the problem, so I deleted my alternate profile and then loaded all the various plug-ins and extensions. Works like a dream now. I didn't manage to find what was a fault but I assume my alternate profile became corrupted.

    I am very grateful.
