DB:3.12:Replicating A Sharepoint 2007 Site Between Domains With No Trust d9

We have a site on our Intranet Farm (independent web app/db) that we wish to replicate on our Extranet Farm so that a separate group of external Users can access the content. Wed
like to sync the content on aregular basis. There is no trust between Domains.

We were thinking about taking the following approach:

    1.
Create an instance of the site on the Extranet Farm
    2.
Overwrite the Content Database regularly to replicate the content

This would be relatively straightforward but Im concerned about how SharePoint will handle the 2different ADs and the Users within them.

If I add the external User accounts to the Visitor Group on the Extranet Farm, will this be continually overwritten when weoverwrite the Content Database?
Will lots of errors be thrown because the Users and Admins from the source site cannot be found?

Would there be any other issues?

    Hi
This is regarding trust relationships between domain and subdomain
A good post is this one
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-IE/winservergen/thread/7f6e217f-2846-4ba0-b51b-683ed6e5ac0f

When a new domain joins a domain tree as a child, a parent-child trust relationship is defined automatically that establishes a two-way, transitive trust relationship. If a user account is authenticated
by the parent domain, the user has access to resources in the parent domain. Similarly, if the user is authenticated by a child domain, the user has access to resources in the child domain.

    Hi,
I would like to configure my MOSS 2007 Ent 64 bit sites to use ADFS authentication so that users from my production domain can login to it. The server team has setup a forest trust between the 2 domains and I configured my SharePoint based on this article:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262696(office.12).aspx

I made web.config changes on both parent site and extended web application but when I try to use people picket in the internal parent site (as said in the above article)
I cannot see users from my prod domain. Is there a better article with detailed steps that anybody could share with me or some guidance would be highly appreciated.

    Hi Ron,
No worries the answer is yes and no. You will probably find it more difficult to use Expression Web with SharePoint. But,the cool part is if you use either of the design tools you will find the other one very easy to use. Expression Web is Cool for
CSS in SharePoint development but you will not be able to easily modify pages directly on a live sitewithineasily, at least the way my machines are setup this is the case. However, you will want to use Expression Blend for SilverLight Development
and there are some other really cool things like designing apps for Windows Phone 7...
So the skills you have acquired will still be of important use and you never know what may be coming, maybe one day you will be able to edit SharePoint sites dierctly with Expression Web but then again it may never make the teams lifecycle, I dont know...

Hi,We are in the process of separating out two business entities into separate AD domains (forests). We have setup an new Domain (Forest) and have established Trust relationships between the two domains. On the MOSS (SharePoint 2007) server, I can see both domains when working with the local account groups so the trust is there. But, in the Manage Account Information for an Enterprise Application Definition section, I can only enter a Group Account Name from one of the domains (Forest). Our network guys are trying to see whether a group can be created on one Forest that can contain the Domain Users from both Forests, but it doesn't look like it can be done. I have tried using a local group on the SharePoint server that contains both the Domain Users from both domains, but the Group Account Name won't accept this hack.Is there any way to have on SSO Enterprise Application have a Group Account Name that spans AD forests?Thanks....

DB:2.76:Sharepoint 2007 - Sso - Manage Account Information For An Enterprise Application Definition - Multiple Ad Forests (Two) 1s

Thanks again Seven. I think that you may have misunderstood the issue. After reviewing this with our AD experts internally, they have confirmed that there is no way that a domain group in one AD Forest can contain a set of users from another
    AD forest.
I don't think that SSO will work across two forests. I really wish it could, but unless someone can provide any way to do this, it looks like we can't.

Hi,We'replanning an inter-forest Windows 2003 domain migration. We have applications that use WINS in both domains. There are also duplicate netbios names in the 2 domains. We need to migrate the domains gradually, so both domain will be up for some times. What would be the best approach to deal with WINS in this scenario. My plan so far was to eliminate duplicate names andreplicate both WINS together. Gradually point clients to the target domain WINS.Is there any downside to replicating the WINS server between both domain?

    DB:2.72:Inter-Forest Win2003 Migration And Wins 3x

Other than the duplicate names issue, there isn't any downside that i can think of. Your plan to eleminate the duplicate names then merge the WINS networks together is solid. I would clean up the WINS databases before you merge them together, remove old records, transfer ownership of records assigned to WINS servers that are no longer active, etc.Cleaning up WINS databases mostly deals with improperly decommissioned WINS Servers, that leave their records in the Database for years after they were decommissioned.

What Im trying to do is to allow the DIP to access data source from cross domains, and as I know this mean that the DIF must be signed or has a full trust level which wont work with a direct deployment into the SharePoint content type
And I found the following note over Microsoft site saying
Deploying Document Information Panels to SharePoint sitesDocument information panels that are deployed to a Microsoft Office SharePoint Services site will not display unless the form template for the Document Information Panel is located on the same domain as the document that they are associated with.
Will I dont know is there any solution for this? Any ideas?

DB:2.66:Deploying Document Information Panel With Full Trust Level f7

Yes you are right, but the normal deployment for full trusted InfoPath as you suggested below doesnt work with DIP or there is no option for that
To deploy a Full Trust form, you have to publish it as an administratively-approved form, upload it to the Central Admin Forms Services area, activate the feature on your site collection, and then apply the content type to a form library.

DB:2.64:Sharepoint 2007, 2 Domains, Opening Doc Cause Second Authentication To Fail zj

    Hi all,

    Short story:

Client1 opens document on Sharepoint, gets authentication box which credentials are supplied and login successful. Client 1 seems files on Sharepoint server folder.
Then client1 opens document on Sharepoint, Excel opens up and asks for domain authentication again but this time it fails.

So first authentication works, but second fails.

    Long story:
Client1 connects to a Sharepoint site over WAN link.
    Sharepoint is on UK domain.
    Client1 is on SA domain.

Client1 opens Sharepoint site, and gets domain authentication box (UK domain)
Client1 enter UK domain credentials and it log's on successfully.

Page loads showing content of directory. Client1 click to open .xls document.
Blank page excel opens with domain authentication box and logs in successful with UK domain credentials.

A opening box appears with status bar, then it asks for domain authentication box again which UK domain credentials is supplied. Now this is where the client1's UK domain account gets locked out.
It just does not want to accept client1's credentials while opening document and after few retries locks client1’s UK domain account.

Client2 is on the same network as client1 with same domain accounts and same rights on Sharepoint.
Client2 can connect to Sharepoint and open the .xls document with no problem.

When client1 uses client2's PC and is logged in with client2's SA domain account and connect to Sharepoint with their own UK domain account it opens the document with no problem.

So basically when client1 is logged on with their own SA domain account on client1 or client2’s PC, client1’s  UK account gets locked out when opening a document on Sharepoint.
But when client2 is logged on with their SA domain account and client1 opens the document on Sharepoint while logged onto Sharepoint with their UK domain account the document opens up.

    Sharepoint server 2007
    Client1 - Vista SP2 and Office 2007 - IE8
Client1 account has been recreated on Sharepoint
    Client1 has contributor rights

    Client2 - Vista SP2 and Office 2007 - IE8

    Hope this made sense…
Anyone got any ideas? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

    DB:2.62:Migrating From Moss 2007 To Sharepoint 2013 1p

I am reaching out here as we require some inputs around migrating the SharePoint based application from MOSS 2007 to 2013.Please find more details from below
    Requirement:
Migrating SharePoint site collection (which contains just 1 Top level site and 2 libraries with in it and no item level/library level permissions exists) which is on MOSS 2007 with size of 500GB to SharePoint 2013, hence we like to know your inputs in related
    to this
    Note:
1)The site collection has its own separate content database
2)There are nearly 200 thousand documents where the document with higher version is 90
3)The documents are stored in the libraries with up to third level of folder structure

4)The site collection is created based on custom site definition (created using visual studio)
Few things that I like to mention/ask here
a)Having 500GB data in one single content database inj the MOSS 2007 environment does it impacts the site performance?
b)Migrating the site collection as is onto single content database (all 500 GB into one content database) into destination SharePoint 2013, does it will be a good practice? Hope SharePoint 2013 content database limit is 200 GB, hence moving 500GB
as is into one database will it be good practice?
c)Does database attach and detach works for the databases which are of size 500GB?
d)Can we do database attach and detach directly from MOSS 2007 to directly onto SharePoint 2013, without hopping onto SharePoint 2010 in between and then later to SharePoint 2013?
e)If moving 500GB data into one content database will not be a good approach, can we split it onto multiple databases?
f)If database attach and detach doesn’t help for databases which are of size 500GB, should we go for any tool based approach? If yes, which tool does best fit?

made the new workflow in Prod is so that it would create that config file, but then you wrote over it.SharePoint Architect || Microsoft MVP ||

I've got a bunch of files I'd like to move from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010. SharePoint 2010 is on a different domain and will require seperate authentication. I am on the SharePoint 2007 domain.
I've got a good deal of C# experience, but no experience working with the SharePoint 2010 or SharePoint 2007 object models. I need a good tutorial or example of how to copy these files and their associated metadata.

DB:2.59:Copying Files Across Domains And Across Versions mc

This post provides an example of using the SharePoint Object Model via Powershell script for copying files:http://rahulrashu.blogspot.com/2011/10/powershell-script-to-copy-documents.htmlC#
has similar or the same object names.
It does not appear to address the metadata which may open a can of worms for you. The intrinsic fields of created, modified, created by and modified by are tricky. Other fields introduced by content types are also going to be tricky. If
you have many document libraries with many different types of metadata, there will either be extra coding or manual work to prepare the destination for the files.AndyGett Blog |

    DB:2.56:What Is Required For A Single-Site Sharepoint 2007 Installation? c9

Greetings, all. Allow me to present to you the following upgrade/migration scenario:My company has a parent company located several states away. While our networks are physically connected via Cisco router-based VPN over a MetroE, we maintain two separate Windows Active Directory domains. For political reasons, it is not feasable to establish a trust relationship between the two domains.Recently, our parent company has abandoned SharePoint in favor of a different collaborative tool. Since my office still depends quite heavily on SharePoint, we have since physically relocated the SharePoint server from our parent company's headquarters to our own offices. The SharePoint server is running Windows 2003 R2, SharePoint Portal Services 2003, and SQL Server 2000.The problem is this: the SharePoint server is still joined to our parent company's domain. This presents a problem as we have very little control, if any, over the parent company's networking and should connectivity be disrupted for any reason between our parent company and us, the SharePoint server--heavily dependent on consistent RPC communication between our two networks--fails. For eample, we had a service disruption caused by some new firewall rules implemented at our parent company that lasted for two days, during which time our SharePoint server was completely inaccessable. We wish to sever our SharePoint's server's association with our parent company's domain and join it to our own. A poster, responding to an emergency call for help related to our two-day outage, suggested that now might be a good time to upgrade to SharePoint 2007 and I am, at this point, am inclined to concur.Even though we have SharePoint Portal Server, we don't need it; it was installed with the idea that SharePoint would be our company's main collaborative tool throughout the organization, something which never came to fruition. Consequently, we run but a single, very small SharePoint site with a few dozen lists on it.So my question is this: Since we're not running an enterprise-level SharePoint site, and intend to run a single SharePoint instance, what combination of operating systems and software do we need to purchase?I would ask if there was a simple way to migrate our lists from our SharePoint Portal Server 2003 platform to a SharePoint 2007 server, but I know from experience that it is practically impossible, and plan on hiring a local SharePoint guru perform the actual migration. Thanks in advance,Gregory Pius

    DB:2.56:What Is Required For A Single-Site Sharepoint 2007 Installation? c9

(I am assuming that you are currently running SharePoint Portal Server 2003.  Not that it really matters much in determining what you need if you choose to migrate to WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007)From the sound of it, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 should be more than sufficient for your needs.  That is available as an add-on to your Windows Server license for no cost and includes a version of SQL Server sufficient for its needs-- you won't have to license SQL Server at all.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the post.

There is no support for SSO between different Web listeners. SSO is supported for published Web sites whose host names have the same DNS suffix after the first dot.
For example, you can configure SSO when publishing mail.fabrikam.com and team.fabrikam.com by specifying .fabrikam.com as the SSO domain. However, you cannot configure SSO for mail.fabrikam.com and mail.contoso.com.

DB:2.56:Adfs Resource Partner Account Partner Setup 7f

    Good Afternoon,

We have two Domains, A and B. A is the Account Partner and B is the Resource Partner (With Sharepoint Web portal)

Domain B exists in Domain A's Relying Party Trust

Domain A exists in Domain B's Claims Provider Trust

However the above have been created without any claims setup between them. (Right click edit claim rule - Acceptance Transform Rules)

The Sharepoint Site on Domain B has been setup in relying part Trust, with the required Claims for Sharepoint. (Call it Claim SP)

My question is that would the Trusts between the domains need to have Claim SP setup between them for the site to function (i.e. allow Domain A users to access Sharepoint on Domain B?)

    Thank you for your assitance,

DB:2.56:Adfs Resource Partner Account Partner Setup 7f

Here is a general overview of what you need to do. You want to provide Domain A user access to SharePoint in Domain B from what I read. From the ADFS side:
Domain A setup as a claim provider on Domain B's federation server
Domain B setup as a relying party on Domain A's federation server
SharePoint setup as a relying party on Domain B's federation server

    From the SharePoint side:
Domain B's federation server setup as a trusted identity provider on the desired web application.

For the claims, you'll need to passthrough from Domain A's federation server, to Domain B's federation server (the one SharePoint trusts) then to SharePoint.
Here is a guide that is pretty good at explaining how to do that:

Actually, we need to first make the two domains trust each other. Then use the Identity Lifecycle Manager (ILM) 2007 to synchronize the GAL and Calendar.

Can you please advise the following:-
    1) Can Sharepoint Designer 2007 be used with Sharepoint Server 2010?
    2) What is the difference between 32bit and 64bit Sharepoint Designer? What extra features does it provide?
    3) Can a Sharepoint Server 2010 64bit with Sharepoint Designer which is 32bit?
    4) I believe that even after you migrate Sharepoint Server 2007 to 2010 you can still have the look feel of 2007 sites. If the sites still have 2007 look feel does that mean if we want to edit a site we will need Sharepoint Designer

    Hi all,
I want to allow a user to specify an existing SharePoint subsite. Then, my code should create a duplicate of the specified site as another subsite with the same parent site.

Manually replicating a site through the interface is easy, but it is a little annoying, so I'd like to automate the process. The process will be:

Create a new custom site template from the the existing subsite.Create a new subsite using the custom template just created.
I thought this would be simple to code (using C# and object model). However, I can't find a way to create a custom site template through code.
Is what I want to do possible? Do I have to make the user manually create the template? I think part two (creating a new site from the custom template) will be doable. Seehttp://blah.winsmarts.com/2007-5-Programatically_create_a_SharePoint_site_based_on_a_site_definition.aspx.
Perhaps there is another way to duplicate a site without using templates? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.Stephen P. Kappel - Sharepoint Developer

DB:2.53:Is It Possible To Create A New Site Template Using The Object Model? zc

The problem with the code I posted previously is that mySite.OpenWeb()

I'm trying to access a SharePoint site with with users of Domain A (which is the domain the SharePoint Server is a member of) as well as with users of Domain B. Between those domains exists an unidirectional (external) trust so that users of Domain B can
be authenticated at the SharePoint server. Those domains are not member of the same forest.
For better administration and for security reasons the users of Domain B are located in a domain local group of Domain A.
Unfortunately SharePoint Server isn't able to resolve the members domain local groups. Users in global groups are resolved and directly authorizing the users of Domain B onto the SharePoint works as well, but it would be a lot nicer to just use active directory
groups instead of having to authorize each user individually.
    Is this behaviour by design?
Are the any possibilities to use domain local groups for authorization within SharePoint?
I don't think this demand is so unusual in real world scenarios.
And no, building a SharePoint farm with all users in one domain is not a possibility at all... ;)
Thanks in advance for any help and ideas you can provide me with.

DB:2.52:Sharepoint Not Able To Resolve Members Of Domain Local Groups? p1

The only way I know of to do that would be to use Universal groups. Local groups (the only other ones you can assign membership to across a domain boundary) can't be used in SharePoint. Only Global and Universal groups can be added to SharePoint
in most places. This is by design.

    Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP

Are you sure this is true? As in our SharePoint 2007 we are using domain local groups only (hundreds of them - sometimes with Global groups nested within them, sometimes with just users members of those domain local groups). Is this a change implemented in

I am to SharePoint as well as ADFS, so I'm not really sure which path it is that I need to follow. We are setting up a SharePoint site for Demo/testing purposes and the requirement is that the sites have smart card access. I have read everywhere
that SharePoint 2013 does not have this compatibility built in and requires ADFS v2.0 to pass SSL certificates. Here's where it gets a bit complicated; our SharePoint server and CA server are in two different domains, but have a site trust between them.
I had started the ADFS configuration, but I wasn't sure if I needed additional pieces between the domains, which certificates would be required for the configuration, or if I was going about this the wrong way.
Any help, or direction for my scenario would be greatly appreciated.

    DB:2.52:Certificate Authentication With Sharepoint 2013 a9

If you're using ADFS 2.x, there is an ADFS Proxy that typically sits in the DMZ. It isn't a technical requirement, but it is a recommended security practice.Trevor Seward, MCC

DB:2.52:Moss 2007 - Sharepoint People Picker Does Not Find All Ids In Active Directory cm

We have a strange problem with one of our MOSS 2007 SharePoint installations.
When you use the people picker to find IDs in our Active Directory, it does not resolve them all!
In one instance we created a newID in AD, and SharePoint immediately saw it (we could resolve the ID using the people picker function) but when we went back to AD and created a new ID the same identical way, SharePoint couldn't see the new ID!
One of our other SharePoint farms resolve both IDs just fine, it is just this one that is having problems. One difference between the two farms is that they are sitting in different Domains, so we are looking at anything that's different in how the
Sharepoint servers are connected to the Domains...
If anyone has seen similar problems with their SharePoint installations, I'd love to hear about it!

    -Richard.

DB:2.52:Moss 2007 - Sharepoint People Picker Does Not Find All Ids In Active Directory cm

I have a workaround! It is not pretty but it works...
If you impersonate the user by using the sign in as another user capability, and get the SharePoint access denied error page, then you can resolve theirIDs in the people picker. Only their ID get's imported into their profile, but at least
you can provision them into a SharePoint group. I am waiting for our Import process to run to see if the rest of the user's information gets populated in their profile (like their FN, LN, email address, etc.)
This was a bit of an issue finding out in our environment because we have the IIS Change Password utility installed, and new IDs were directed to the IIS Change Password page before SharePoint could recognize them. Unfortunately, the change password
functiondid not work... When we unchecked the IDs'change password upon next login option it bypassed the change password utility and we were able to get the Access Denied error. We then went back and turned that option back on for
    those IDs.
We are investigationg whether it is a problem with the service account, but we can't schedule a downtime for another week or so. So it may be awhile until I have more on that topic.
    -Richard.

    Hi Richard_D_

Thanks allot! This fixed it for me. I ask the (new) user to browse to a Sharepoint site. Once he/she has accessed a SharePoint sitefor the first time whilst logged in with their AD account, the People Picker seems to find the user.

Wish I knew how to fix it but this saved me for now.

HiTo properly advise you it would help to understand how many servers you are looking to monitor .. but as a general guide I would say that while it is technically possible, it isn't something that I would generally recomend as you would need to configure certificates on every server in the second domain .... this could be an administrative challenge. You would also need to manually install all the agents in the second domain ... and manually update them ... again, extra administrative burden. In general, I would suggest:Domain 1 - OpsMgr database \ data warehouse \ rms \ secondary management serverDomain 2 - gateway serverYou would then need to configure certificates on the management servers \ gateway .. and you could use the gateway in domain 2 to push agents out to servers in that domain.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb735408.aspxI would also endorse what Rob says about looking at the relevant guides:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/opsmgr/bb498235.aspxThe design, deployment and security guides will be usefulCheersGraham

Suppose I have a Windows domain A along with Sharepoint and ADFS. All user accounts within Sharepoint are domain based. Now within Sharepoint I have links to an external .NET web application that is a member of its own domain B; there is
no trust between domains A and B.
I would like to configure single sign on such that the domain A users can click on the links to external site in domain B from within Sharepoint and not be prompted for login. Domain A users would not have accounts in domain B, but their credentials
would be converted to a token by ADFS for authentication by the domain web application. Is this possible, and if so, what are my requirements with respect to ADFS? Do I need ADFS present in both domains, only in domain A, or only in domain B?
The user accounts in the external web application would be contained within a SQL database (and not in domain B Active Directory).
My inital thought is I need ADFS in domain A, with a trust to Sharepoint, and adding the external web application as a relying party. Please advise; thanks.

DB:2.50:Steps To Migrate Sql Server (Linked To Moss) To Another Forest Domain 89

    Hi,
Below are the Sharepoint Farm details. (Sharepoint 2007)
Domain : DomA.com, SQL Server : SQL 2005 (Named Instance), Sharepoint Server : One Indexer (CA) One WFE
For some reasons we need to migrate this SQL server to another domain : DomB.com
There is one way trust between these two domains from DomB to DomA (users in DomB can be added to Domain Local group on DomA).
We will copy data from the SQL server in DomA to the SQL server in DomB and then switch off the SQL server in DomA.
Questions I have with regards to this
    -would this scenario work?
    - What steps we need to perform so that we dont need to rebuilt sharepoint configdb?
Thanks in advance for looking into this.

DB:2.50:Steps To Migrate Sql Server (Linked To Moss) To Another Forest Domain 89

I'm not sure I understand the direction of the trust. For this to work, Domain B must trust Domain A (so that computers and users in domain A can connect to the server).
Next, to keep from having to recreate the configuration database (and thus recreating the farm) you will need to ensure the database name used by the configuration database remains unchanged. This may be difficult if you are moving the instance to a new
server. If you have used a SQL Server client alias this will be no problem at all, simply change the destination of the alias on the SharePoint servers.
If you do not have an alias, the supported approach is to make a full farm backup, disconnect (all servers) from the farm, create a new farm with a configuration database on your new SQL Server and restore the backup.

    Hi,
The situation is as follows. We have a server farm on one domain. We have multiple domains that are used to connect to he farm. We have multiple import connections for the domains. All the users have access to the sites no problem, we also ran the people
picker for the domains and they all work. We recently got a request to add another domain. We created the new import conntection and that worked great imported all the users. The problem is that when these new users try connect they get a IIS 500 error and
there is nothing in the log. I know they authenticate as it asks for a username and password and after the first try they get this error. Please note that all sites are on port 80 and alternate access mappings are used.
So it is just people from this new domain. I know there is a 1 way trust between all the domains linked to the farm. I also know that they have not added a DNS entry for the ip and name on their side but they say they should not have to add it as when they
are on their domain and try with another user name from 1 of the working domains they can access the sites but only when they use their domain does it come with the error.
    Hope you can help :)

I'm thinking that this question belongs in the vsphere replication forum, but there is so little activity there - anyone have a good detailed technical white paper on how replication works, and how it uses target datastore space, and what the hbr disk process is, and what effect having thick provisioned source disks has on the target datastore? (do the HBR disks take up a different amount of space depending on whether either the source or target are configured as thick or thin)?

In some cases it is looking like the HBR disks (there is one for each replicated disk) are equal in size to the source disks. In other cases it looks like they are a small tiny subset of the larger source size.

It would be really good to have a detailed description of all of this and how it is supposed to work

    I have the following scenario

    - Main Data Center contains Exchange 2007 SP1 CCR cluster running on Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 SP2
    - IP-Based SAN Replication is running between EMC Celerra NAS units replicating the LUNs used by Exchange from the production NAS to the DR NAS

In the event of a disaster, would it be possible to use the Setup /m:RecoverServer on a stand-alone server at the DR site to restore Exchange if I had LUN copies from the CCR cluster at the main site?

Or would I have to stand up a MNS cluster at the DR site and use use Setup /RecoverCMS?

Would it be easier to just set up SCR and not use the LUN based replication?

    Thoughts?

DB:2.50:Site Disaster Scenario With Ccr Emc San Replication zs

First off, thanks for all the feedback. The difficult thing about using SAN vendors as a first line on system architecture and design questions is generally, in my experiences, they lag a bit on product knowledge. Ask about how to do this with Exchange 2003, and EMC has half a dozen docs on how to do it, but finding solutions for new technologies has been a struggle. In a perfect world what I would like to do is use the database portability features of Exchange 2007. Since my SAN replication solution has the LUNs at the DR site, I would like to just mount them on another non-clustered Exchange server. I didn't want have to stand up another CCR cluster. Keeping perspective here, this is a site recovery solution. CCR provides us HA and local host DR at the production data center. I wanted the site recovery scenario to be very simple and straight forward.- Heath

DB:2.50:How To Find Whether The Existing Sharepoint Site Is Using Custom Template Or Standard Template ? sm

Dear All,Sorry for asking some basic Sharepoint questions:1. How to find whether the currently setup sharepoint version is MOSS 2007 or earlier version ?2. How to find whether the existing site is using custom template or standard template ?3. How to find what template (name) the current site is using ?4. How to move all Sites / Site Collections and data from one Sharepoint server to another server (in different domains and locations) ? Thanks for your time.Regards,Kumar.

DB:2.50:How To Find Whether The Existing Sharepoint Site Is Using Custom Template Or Standard Template ? sm

    1. This should be obvious.  Check to see if IIS for the site has ASP .Net 2.0 enabled / allowed.  Or check Control Panel/Installed programs.2. Template information is listed on the SPWeb object for the site, use a little code, or use STSADM, there is an option to list the templates, so there is most likely an option to also determine what site template was used to create the site.3. Again look at #2, in the object model you will get two parts, a string template name like STS and then a configuration number 0,1,2 etc.4. You can try backup and restore, although, or content deployment, or get a tool like DocAve, Echo, Quest, etc. most of those tools provide some copy function or export.GL-Dan Keeling

The email server is in domain A and alerts work fine for any email address of accounts in domain A, but SharePoint will not send any alerts to people picked from domain B.
If I setup a user in domain A with an email address in domain B, it works! But I can't do that for the whole company (too many)
Why wont SharePoint send any alerts to the accounts from domain B?

DB:2.49:Sharepoint Not Email Alerts To Alternate Domain Users kz

I have found the solution; I needed to create a Receive Connector on the Exchange server to allow relaying to effectively an external address. But, and this is what all the other blogs DIDN'T mention, the connector needs to be setup to use IPSec as this
is what SharePoint wants when sending externally. I listed my SharePoint servers in the connector, so that any of them can email, but found out that it's almost random which server in the farm is running the timer jobs and therefore sending emails. This is
held in a table in the Content DB called [TimerLock]

DB:2.49:People Picker Problem In A 2-Way Domain Trust mk

We have SharePoint 2010 in domain A and a 2-way trust between domains A and B. The two domains are in two different forests. When we try to assign a site collection administrator in CA, people picker will display results from BOTH domains (so
it seemingly recognizes and searches users from domain A and domain B), but it won't allow us to apply the selected user and save. The same thing happens in WFE sites themselves, not just in CA. More specifically, here's what happens:

In People Picker, searching for John Smith (who is in domain B) returns search results including users from domains A and B.
Selecting the user and closing the search results pop-up window correctly places the identified user into the Primary or Secondary Site Collection admin field.Mousing-over the recognized user in the field displays a tooltip such as DomainB\jsmith. Everything seems peachy so far. But, clicking on OK/SAVE button results in an error that the user cannot be found. This is not an issue with users from domain A (same domain where sharepoint is located). Here's the weirdest part... If I go to any file system folder on the server and on the security tab I give some permission to ANY user from DOMAIN B, apply/save, and go back to SharePoint CA, I can then repeat
steps 1-4 above WITHOUT getting any errors in step 4. The Site collection admin is assigned without any problems. Why??????
At this point, I can assign site collection admins without any problems, repeatedly, even if I remove the file-system ACL from before. It lasts for some period of time ( a day or less) and the problem returns again eventually. Somehow, priming
of ACLs through File System makes SharePoint open up the communication channels to the trusted domain B.

    Why is this?
I found a bunch of posts talking about SP 2007 and peoplepicker-searchadforests property in one-way trusts, and even sometimes in 2-way trusts, but not much in 2010, and nothing that describes the intermittent sort of a problem that we have.
    Any thoughts?

DB:2.49:People Picker Problem In A 2-Way Domain Trust mk

I'll try to look in to that, but how would that explain the intermittent nature of this issue--the fact that sharepoint starts to work after you make an update to file-system-level ACL?
Also, what type of network communication between SP and domain controllers would I need to check? Specific port numbers?

I have experienced the same issue you are having. I found the issue happened when the user isn't in the site collection user information list. So rather than open ports to our secure domain the work around for us it to add the user to a sharepoint group (i.e
viewers) then remove them. They are then in the site collection user information list and it resolves them just fine from the people picker at that point. I don't know why it can't use the UPSA...otherwise whats the point of me syncronizing the the information
    in the first place.

DB:2.49:How To Share Lists Between Parent Site And Subsites ? kx

    Hi
All the solutions which I came across seemed very complex and cumbersome. I then stumbled on the solution by pure luck. Not sure how complex your requirements are but all I wanted to do was make use of lists which I had created in the main site,
at sub-sites eg. Customer List, Branch Code, Sales Rep lists etc.
    Here's the solution.
    1. Go to your main site
    2. Site Actions -- Site Settings
    3. Galleries -- Site Columns
    4. Create -- Create your lookup (very similar to creating a new column when setting up a Custom List)
    5. Under Group, I'd suggest creating a Custom group specific to your company just so that you know where to find your newly created Site Column
    6. Once you've created that, then go to your sub-site
    7. Go to your Custom List -- List Settings
    8. Now here's the trick... you click on Add From Existing Site Columns
    9. Select your Custom Group which you created and in there you'll find your Site Column which you can insert into your Custom List
I really hope this helps someone 'cause I spent days trying to find a solution to this simple issue :)
    Cheers,
    Allan

When I understand this right, the A/V Traffic is redirected for Users of Site 2 to the EDGE in Site 2. Should i add an entry for the site 2 edge Server's FQDN in my allowed Domains of the Lync? Or is this not necessary?

DB:2.49:Federation Between Lync And Ocs R2 - Multiple Ocs R2 Edge Servers za

You can't have multiple federation gateway even you have multiple edge server/pools.
Under OCS R2 global configuration, partner would have mentioned an edge server or pool FQDN for federated traffic. All site users should be able to access internal NIC of federated edge, normally this will be done by persistent route.
Even if you add second edge server FQDN in the Lync allowed domain , it doesn't make any difference. Issue has to be fixed on partner's OCS R2federated edge, not on your Lync topology.

DB:2.49:Configure Single Sign Between Sharepoint 2010 Sharepoint 2007 Sites? 79

You can do it using claims authentication. It's a complex topic, start at
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/russmax/archive/2010/05/27/understanding-sharepoint-2010-claims-authentication.aspx Since you're using MOSS 2007, that would been you'd also have to implement a custom authentication provider supporting claims authentication.

On another note, since both are in the same AD, why don't you just use Windows authentication in which case it seems, to me, you accomplish what you're looking for.

    Hi Ajinkya,
First, you should update the 2007 site to SharePoint 2010. Second, after upgraded then save the site as template. Use the template create site.
