So the past month I've been working on enhancing the CMS to be easier to use, more powerful, and make it all around faster in deploying new custom themed ESS portals.

I put together a quick video to show the progress: http://youtu.be/nxmYtWk7yXY

If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

    Hi All,

I have around 80 InfoPath forms that i need to convert to ServiceNow forms along with a workflow for each one.

Whilst i'm converting these one by one, i would still like them to be accessible from our ESS portal. My question is:

Could i somehow store these 80 InfoPath .xsn forms in ServiceNow and have a link on the portal that would open them still?Store them In knowledge articles?Store them on the midservers?

At present, these 80 forms are stored on a network location which are then linked to from our intranet.

Has anyone out there done any CMS sites (especially in the higher education arena) that they would like to share? I am looking for examples, advice, lessons learned, basically just a general information share.

Did you have to deal with any accessibility issues?

What sorts of services did you expose through the CMS?

Was there a pre-existing portal before the CMS? Did CMS replace or does it work along side the other portal?

Does the CMS work for mobile and desktop?

Any adventurous folks out there using a different CMS framework (Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, etc) using ServiceNow as a datasource?

HereNow brings real-time user location awareness to ServiceNow. The overall app is a combination of a ServiceNow integration, advanced mapping features, and standalone mobile apps for iOS and Android. When using the HereNow application in conjunction with the mobile apps, real-time user tracking is possible. Using your mobile phone GPS, your device sends periodic location updates to your ServiceNow instance. Doing so makes it possible to do things like:

Track field services teams in real-timeProvide location-based notifications knowledgeCurate service catalog offerings based on user locationProvide specialized reporting for the user's current locationView historical transit and location-time-spent information

Once the data is in ServiceNow, the app provides advanced mapping and reporting features to make sense of the data. However, the possibilities are much broader - HereNow provides the data, and the platform can support whatever clever applications the ServiceNow ecosystem can come up with!

    Hello Feroz

FlexNet is dedicated to software licence compliance and ultimately licence optimisation, it sole purpose is to discover what you have installed or use and marry that to your simple or complex licences to give you a continuously accurate licence position. ServiceNow have capabilities in all aspects of ITAM and of course they do that very well. The Flexera option for software asset is for those who want to get a good grip on their software and licences with a view to being audit ready and continuously compliant.

I hope that helps a little.

    Hi ServiceNow Community Developers,

Is there a way to turn on the enhancements and defects task? What we are looking for here is something similar to problem tasks which is currently available as a plugin that you just activate and the problem tasks related list is just there. Does ServiceNow provide something like that for defects /enhancements or this is something that one may have to create from scratch. Please advise.

    Thanks,

    Johannes

DB:2.59:How To Turn Defects / Enhancements Tasks On x7

We've done this and now have ETASKS under ENHC by extending planned task. However, be careful going this route. We have an end to end process from DMND through ENHC/PRJ to CHG with financial roll ups as well. By creating these extensions and new tasks in these other work types we now have several tables to maintain when any changes are needed. There are also inconsistencies in the task and planned task cost and schedule roll ups from our operational demand where we have tasks and our portfolio demand where we have planned tasks.

We are now going back and working with the ServiceNow team to instead of creating CTASKS, ETASKS, ITASKS, MTASKS, etc. etc that extend planned task and have 8 tables to maintain; we will have our parent work types of INC, PRB, DFCT, ENHC, MOP and will have just TASKS underneath all that have the cost and schedule roll up functionality. PRJ will still remain PRJTASKS specifically.

Again, this solution is still in process of being resolved. But long story short, you absolutely can have "ETASKS" or tasks in the ENHC space. Just remember to think long term in your solution.

    Appreciate all your help!!!!!!

DB:2.56:Integrating Hp Bsm With Servicenow pj

    Hi Ashish,

You have a few options with HP BSM. (formerly HP BAC and Mercury Topaz)

    1) You can have HP BSM create incidents directly. Email is most likely the transport you're going to have to use, and you can google "inbound email actions" to find out how to set that up with ServiceNow. Alternatively HP BSM may have a way to run a custom script when an alert is triggered, if this is the case, you can write a custom script to do a web service call in the language of your choice.

    2) You can go through an intermediary "event management" solution. The idea here is to consolidate all enterprise events into a single location, and correlate them prior to creating an incident. This allows creation of fewer, more meaningful incidents. Evanios has an Event Management application that runs on ServiceNow, and there is a new Event Management application from ServiceNow that is available with the Eureka release as well.

I know HP BAC could generate SNMP traps, since we've done integrations that way in the past with other event managers. Our application has an extension to the MID server ("integration agent") that will receive SNMP traps and forward them to an event manager. This extension works with our tool today, and will work with the Eureka SN Event Management application by the end of July. The Evanios app and integration agent can be downloaded at no cost from www.evanios.com.

There is a known bug logged for this under PRB565423.What actually happens is that if you attempt to create a second table with the same name as one that already exists, it doesn't create the new table in the database at all, but it does create an entry in the SYS_DICTIONARY in the app, so there is an inconsistency.Be careful and always ensure you use unique and succintly-descriptive names for your tables! :-)

Dear friends, can anyone share an example or a template of a custom ESS portal for ServiceNow, which has been created from scratch (html+css+js+[server side logic]) and without ServiceNow CMS? Maybe there is a link to a demo or something like that?I faced major issues related to ServiceNow CMS: on mobile devices, ESS portals created on ServiceNow CMS may not work. If you have one, just check the pages with iFrame blocks. DB:2.50:I Am A Creator - This Is My Email Blasting App - Jason Butz 9c

My Email Blasting app replaces a heavily manual process with MyEmma. We need to be able to send "Email Blasts" to customers to notify them of issues with their environment. Our NOC personnel used to have to manually create an email in MyEmma, add the email addresses, and send the comminution. With this application they launch a dialog from an Incident, Change, or Request. In the dialog they choose a template, and can customize a few sections from that template. A record is created for the email blast, and then the email is sent using Mailgun. When mailgun registers events for the communication it contacts ServiceNow via webhook and creates a log of that event. Things like links being clicked, emails being opened, emails bouncing, and emails being reported as spam are all recorded. We couldn't use the built in functionality for email because we needed open tracking.

The application is being rolled out to general users tomorrow, so if I can I will edit this and add some more reactions. The NOC manager's jaw dropped when he saw a partially functional demo. He was about as close to speechless as he can get.

    Dialog Example:

    Dialog Example (Free-Form Blast):

Below is a more detailed explanation of the technical details that I wrote up for some of our managers.

Third-party transactional email service is used for sending e-mail. Using Mailgun, other options evaluated were SendGrid and Mandrill.

Chose to use transactional email service instead of ServiceNow's e-mail to get open tracking.

    Biggest Technical Challenges

Creating page to receive webhook callsMaking REST Messages send POST requests that send multipart/form-data and not JSON

    Possible Events:
E-Mail OpenedLink ClickedE-Mail BouncesRecipient UnsubscribesRecipient reports as spam

There are two other things gained from this that present an increase in opportunities to the ServiceNow community.

    1. Web Hooks

I couldn't find anywhere that someone had managed to receive web hooks in ServiceNow. Webhooks are a fairly simple thing, but they present an enormous opportunity. They allow a ServiceNow instance to take action based on an event in an external service.

For example, if you are using the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) portion of ServiceNow you could automatically update stories/tasks/defects/enhancements when code is pushed to GitHub or Bitbucket.

If you use Stripe for mobile payments, you could have information about each payment put into ServiceNow. All through web hooks.

Most services that provide some sort of API have web hooks. Here is a short list of services that support web hooks:

    GitHubMailgunSendGridMandrillMailChimpTrelloStripePusherWordpressFreshbooksShopifyEvernoteCampaign MonitorJIRAPaper TrailScoutBitbucket

    2. Non-JSON Post Requests

If you want to use the REST Message piece of ServiceNow whatever service is getting the message must support JSON, as far as the ServiceNow documentation says. I figured out a way around that while still using REST Message. It is not pretty, but it opens up a vast number of APIs that might not have been accessible.

DB:2.50:I Am A Creator - This Is My Email Blasting App - Jason Butz 9c

Hey thanks for the response! Yes I did know I could build the multipart requests with the REST app in SN, unfortunately I was not able to get this to work with base64 data, and other binary data. Works great with text though. My requirements were I needed to send attachments so I actually just ended writing a custom .jar file and build my requests with Java and the Mid server. Thanks for the help!

    What it Does:

The Service Request Management portal uses ServiceNow's Content Management System (CMS) to provide an intuitive front-end for internal ServiceNow employees to request services from multiple departments. Utilizing Mark O'Donnell (ServiceNow Sr. Solutions Consultant) as our CMS ninja, we quickly designed, prototyped and launched the SRM portal in March 2014. This work underscores the goals of the Surf Application Development team to showcase NOW on NOW.

    How it Helps:

The SRM portal centralizes requests for IT, Human Resources and Facilities services, allowing employees to quickly raise an issue, request a service or search the knowledge base. As we continue to enhance the portal, we will offer more self-service resources and add representation from more departments such as Security, Sales and Marketing.

    What the Customers Think:

"Im a requester and owner of several End User and Infrastructure IT services: mobility, end user computing, unified communications, and infrastructure systems. Much like the users we serve, Im just as anxious to get my issue logged, request fulfilled, question answered, and approve requests in my queue without having to dig, follow a process flow doc, or worse -- rely on undocumented tribal knowledge. The SRM Portal offers a quick, clean, intuitive and elegant interface for our users to interact with IT. Its just the beginning of so much more were going to accomplish in Service Management."

Any feedback on the above would be very much appreciated...

    Hello,

I`ve created a new portal page and associated it with my Service Catalog using the "sc_catalog_view_mtom". The layout on my portal page is set to "layout_3_across_only" ( equal width columns 33/33/33%). However, the Catalog Contents gets rendered with the "layout_3_across_catalog" layout which messes my content items up, basically stuff is all over the place.

Hi, We have a requirement to integrate HP NNM (Network Node Manager) with ServiceNow. The NNM event should be passed to ServiceNow so that an incident is opened in ServiceNow. Anyone integrated NNM with ServiceNow before? If so, can you please share the steps to achieve this integration? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if you found a way to integrate NNMi with ServiceNow, one way of doing is by leveraging the Evanios Operations or Integration product. It has an out of the box integration with NNMi, it will receive the traps and map it to the right field. The Evanios product is free of charge if you're using it for 1 integration only. Here's a quick blog that talks about integrating SNMP events with ServiceNow. It also shows the NNM fields that are mapped:

Integrate NNM, NetApp, vCenter and vCops or any SNMP tool with Servicenow

    Hi,
We were planning a portal and a major requirement is that the portal have a responsive design (html5,css3,javascript) to allow multi device access. We are also planning a windows tile type navigation, with the users able to rearrange the tiles etc., how
easy-difficult it is to achieve this?

    DB:2.44:Responsive Design Templates In 2010 j9

    hello Karthikmark
what you have asked is possible inside share point using some j query effects available online.
you can copy the java script files into the site assets and reference them into html section of the particular web part. there are various designs available to give better look and feel to your portal site.
i ll give a head start with some links which will help you to understand the process

some j queries allow device independent look and feel and some don't. you need to check by your self and make sure of it.

    DB:2.43:What Are Enhancements? 33

    hi,

SAP delivers a broad range of business functions within its R/3 application suite. You may find that the standard applications do not offer some of the functionality you need. The R/3 enchancement concept allows you to add your own functionality to SAP's standard business applications.

SAP creates customer exits for specific programs, screens and menus within standard R/3 applications. These exits do not contain any functionality. Instead, the customer exits act as hooks. You can hang your own add-on functionality onto these hooks.

    Purpose of the Enhancement Concept

With the ABAP/4 Development Workbench, SAP's client-server development environment, you can create add-ons or entire applications. Before the enhancement concept existed, customers who wanted to add their own specific functions to SAP software had to modify the standard SAP programs.

    Reason for Using Exits

If you want to extend the functionality of your R/3 System, you should take advantage of the exits available within the standard R/3 applications. There are two main reasons why you should use exits rather than modifying SAP software. Add-ons that are attached to exits have the advantage that they:

1.Do not affect standard SAP source code

When you add new functionality to your R/3 System using SAP's exits, you do not change the source code of standard SAP programs. The code and screens you create are encapsulated as separate objects. These customer objects are linked to standard applications, but they exist apart from SAP's standard software package.

    2.Do not affect software upgrades

When you add new functions using SAP's exits, the objects you develop are customer objects. Customer objects adhere to strict naming conventions. When the time comes to upgrade a software release, the special names of customer objects ensure that they will not be affected by either changes or additions within the standard software package. As a result, you do not need to save and then reenter add-ons attached to exits.

Customer exits are not available for all programs and screens within the R/3 standard applications. You can only use exits if they already exist within the SAP R/3 System. Locating Applications that Have Exits explains how to find applications with predefined exits.

If no user exit is available in an area where you want to add your own functionality, you can request that SAP develop an exit. You can make this request via the Online Service System (OSS).

    Regards,

    GNK

Built an issue tracking app for a guest facing contact center in the hospitality industry. Turned the IT biased "one issue, one ticket" on its head. Using form nested related lists we empowered the contact center to capture every single nuance of a guest stay, where previously they would only track the "most severe" (whatever that even means). Additionally, we have multiple actions/reconciliations that can be launched from the main ticket, all with their own workflow. This empowers the agents to give discounts, free stays, or refunds really quickly and still get appropriate approval. The form also has related lists showing guest history so we know when people are trying to game our system.

We're now sitting on a gold mine of marketing data and we're about to pump it into our enterprise data warehouse.

And that all came with a 50% cost savings from the Force.com licenses we replaced.

    Dear Vivek,

Please find the info regarding User-Exit's in the following links:

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/bf/ec07a25db911d295ae0000e82de14a/frameset.htm

    http://www.sap-img.com/abap/a-short-tutorial-on-user-exits.htm

    Re: doubt on user exits

    user exits and Badis

User exits is the enhancements provided by SAP

You can use them in transactions. Each transaction will have user exits.

If you want to use your own requirements by making your coding while the transaction is run you can use user exits.

For example if you want to run the MRP in MD02 specific to MRP controller you can user exit.

Please also refer the document below.

    USEREXIT

Userxits allow us to add our own functionality to SAP standard program

without modifying it . These are implemented in the form of subroutines and hence are also known as FORM EXITs. The userexits are generally collected in includes and attached to the standard program by the SAP.

All Userexits start with the word USEREXIT_...

    FORM USEREXIT_..

    z..

    ENDFORM.

The problem lies in finding the correct userexit and how to find it if one exists for the purpose. Once the correct userexit is found the necessary customer code is inserted in the customer include starting with the z.. in the form routine.

    e.g. USEREXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENT_PREPARE

Certain application like SD still provide this form of enhancement using userexit but this practice is no longer being followed for newer extensions instead they are using EXITs which come bundeled in enhancement packages . Neverthiless existing USEREXITS will be supported by SAP an all the newer versions of SAP.

    HOW TO FIND USEREXITS

Userexits can be found in number of ways:

    1) To find userexits in SD module , goto object navigator(SE80) and select

development class from the list and enter VMOD in it. All of the userexits in SD are contained in the development class VMOD. Press enter and you will find all the includes which contain userexits in SD for different functions like PRICING, ORDER PROCESSING etc. Select the userexit according to the requirement and read the comment inserted in it and start coding .

Some examples of userexits in SD(SALES DISTRIBUTION ) are:

1)ADDING OF NEW FIELDS IN PRICING

In Pricing in SD the fields on the basis of which pricing is done are derived from the FIELD CATALOG which is a structure KOMG .This structure is used to transfer transaction data to the pricing procedure in SD and is also known as communication structure. This structure KOMG consists of two tables KOMK for Header related fields and KOMP for item related fields. The fields which are not in either of the two tables KOMK and KOMP cannot be used in pricing .Sometimes a need arises when the pricing is to be based on some other criteria which is not present in the form of fields in either of the two tables. This problem can be solved by using USEREXITS which are provided for pricing in SD. Pricing takes place both when the SALES ORDER ( Transaction VA01) is created as well as when INVOICING ( Transaction VF01) is done.Hence SAP provides 2 userexits ,one for sales order processing which is

    USEREXIT_PRICING_PREPARE_TKOMP or

    USEREXIT_PRICING_PREPARE_TKOMK

Depending upon which table (KOMK or KOMP) the new fields were inserted we use either of the above two userexits. These userexits are found in include MV45AFZZ of the standard SAP sales order creation program SAPMV45A.

In the case of userexit which will be called when invoicing is done ,these

are provided in the include RY60AFZZ which is in the standard SAP program SAPMV45A. The name of the userexits are same. i.e

    USEREXIT_PRICING_PREPARE_TKOMP or

    USEREXIT_PRICING_PREPARE_TKOMK

These userexits are used for passing the data from the communication structure to the pricing procedure, for this we have to fill the newely created field in the communication structure KOMG for this we fill the code in the above userexit using the MOVE statement after the data that has to be passed is taken from the database table by using the SELECT statement. The actual structure which is visible in these userexits and which is to be filled for that particular field is TKOMP or TKOMK.

Before the coding for these userexits is done ,it is necessary to create a new field in either of the two tables KOMK or KOMP .For this purpose includes are provided in each of them .

To create the field in header data(KOMK) the include provided is KOMKAZ

and to create the field in item data(KOMP) the include provided is KOMPAZ.

One possible example for the need of creating new fields can be e.g. Frieght to be based upon transportation zone ,for this no field is available in field catalog and hence it can be created in KOMK and then above userexits can be used to fill the transportation data to it.

2)The other method of finding userexit is to find the word USEREXIT in the

associated program of the transaction for which we want to determine userexit using SE38.

3)The other method of finding userexits is to find the include in case of SD/MM applications where the userexits are located ,this can be found in the SAP reference IMG generally in the subfolder under SYSTEM MODIFICATION.

Some other examples of userexits in SD are:

    USEREXIT_NUMBER_RANGE

This userexit is used to assign a different internal document number to the

sales order(VA01) when it is created depending on some criteria like a different SALES ORGANIZAION(VKORG) .

    USEREXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENT_PREPARE

This userexit is used to insert the ABAP code which will be called when

the document (sales order VA01) is just about to be saved. This userexit is used generally for custom checks on different fields , to display some information before the order will be saved or for making changes to certain fields before the sales order will be saved.

    Exits Enhancements

There are mainly six types of EXITs in sap which have been collected in the form of enhancement packages and attached to standard code in SAP.

These are different from USEREXIT in the way that they are implemented

in the form of FUNCTIONs while in USEREXITS we use form routines for their implementation. These are also sometimes known as function exits .

These start from the word EXIT_ followed by the program name and then followed by a three digit number.

    e.g. EXIT_SAPMV45A_002

This exit is found in SD in enhancement V45A0002.

    TYPES OF EXITS

    1)MENU EXITS

    2)FUNCTION EXITS

    3)TABLE EXITS

    4)SCREEN EXITS

    5)KEYWORD EXITS

    6)FIELD EXITS

We use SAP transactions CMOD and SMOD to manage exits. Before implementing an exit , it is required to create the project by using CMOD

selecting the enhancement e.g. V45A0002 and selecting the component

(one which fulfills our need) i.e the exit which will be implemented in SMOD and after coding has been done the project has to be activated.

An exit can be coded only once.

    FUNCTION EXITS

These are used to add functionality through ABAP code . These start from the word EXIT_programname_NNN ending in a 3 digit number. No access code is required to implement any tupe of exit including function exits.

The function exits are called from the standard SAP program in the form

    of ABAP statement

    CALL CUSTOMER-FUNCTION 'NNN'

This is in contrast to USEREXITs where PERFORM statement is used to call

    the required userexit.

To implement the FUNCTION EXITs first of all the project is created and a suitable enhancement package is selected and from its compnents the function exit to be implemented is selected and on double clicking it the exit code will appear in ABAP EDITOR(se38) where a Z include will be found and the customer code should be entered in this include.

    e.g.

ADDING A DEFAULT SOLD-TO-PARTY in Sales Order Creation

To show a default sold-to-party in this field when the user creates a sales order (VA01) we can use a function exit .This function exit is located in enhancement no V45A0002 . Before we can choose the exit we have to create a project in CMOD after that enter V45A0002 in the enhancement field and click on the components . In the components you will see the exit EXIT_SAPMV45A_002 . This exit is used for our purpose.

Double clicking on this exit will takes us to function builder (SE37) . This

function exit has one exporting parameters and two importing parameters, we are interested in exporting parameter which is E_KUNNR of type KNA1-KUNNR i.e if we move the desired customer name to this structure(E_KUNNR) it will be shown in the field as the default value when we create the sales order. This function also contains a customer include ZXVVA04 . This include will be used to write our custom code .

Double clicking on this include and it will prompt us that this include does not exists do you want to create this object ,select yes and the include will be created .In this include we can write our own code that will fill the field E_KUNNR.

    e.g. E_KUNNR = 301.

Activate the include and Activate the project. Now when ever the SALES ORDER will be created , sold-to-party field will come up with a predefined customer .

    FIELD EXITS

The field exits are managed, created, activated through program RSMODPRF. The field exit is associated with a data element existing in ABAP dictionary and hence to the screen field using that data element.

The format of field exit is :

    FIELD_EXIT_dataelement_A-Z or 0-9

If a particular screen and program name is not specified than the field exit will effect all the screens containing that data element.

The function module associated with field exit shows two parameters

INPUT and OUTPUT. Input parameter contains the data passed to the field exit when the field exit was invoked by the R/3 , We can write our own code to change the output parameter depending upon our requirements.

Before the field exit can have any effect the system profile parameter

ABAP/FIELDEXIT in all the application servers should be set to YES

    ABAP/FIELDEXIT = YES.

    Naveen.

When creating new modules in ServiceNow Express, how do we know which tables they are to be associated with?

    Hi Cortez,

Express does not offer this schema view in the same manner Enterprise does.
You can check out the following 3rd party website to visualize the current schema: http://erm4sn.com
Here is an example of this website running for the sc_request table:
    https://demo.erm4sn.com/table/250/bbd37301301fb000f054f4818d6d1e09

Please make sure to ask Express questions here: Forums Archive - ServiceNow Express Support
and not in the ServiceNow Community, which is built for the Enterprise product.
    Thanks!

    Hi everyone

I've been trying to use the login portlet (Integrating ServiceNow with your Intranet - ServiceNow Wiki), but i'ts not working. I set the Script Include to client callable and set the two high security properties to false as mentioned in the documentation.

When I open the url to the portlet https://INSTANCE.service-now.com/portal/login.htm and try to login, nothing happens. A request is sent to xmlhttp.do?.. which returns status 200 OK. But the response body only contains: xml sysparm_max="15" sysparm_processor="PortletLogin"/

    Did I forget something?

You could either use the OOB parent field or just create a new reference field on the Testing task to reference the change table.

Once done, add the related list to the change form.

DB:2.43:Users Without Roles Are Not Always Seeing The /Ess Version Of The Instance? 8k

I'm sure this is a simple answer, but how does ServiceNow determine what "page" a user sees when they login? We want a non-licensed user to ALWAYS see the /ess page when they login to ServiceNow

We are still fairly new to ServiceNow, and the idea of a 'portal' is new to a LOT of our users.I have been walking users through submitting requests on the ESS page. When I remote into their PC's some users have been seeing the "regular" version of servicenow, not the /ess page.

    What should i check?

DB:2.43:Users Without Roles Are Not Always Seeing The /Ess Version Of The Instance? 8k

Sorry for the delayed response, I disconnected for the weekend.

48 hours in a cabin with no internet is a wonderfull thing!

We are not using SSO, they have to login manually (LDAP)

They are told to go to instance.service-now.com, not instance.service-now.com/ess

I thought our implementation team set it up so that users with no roles were automatically redirected to the ESS page, but I don't think it's working properly.

I just checked, and login ruled are turned on.Here is the login rule they setup for users with no roles. It appears to be redirecting to the correct content page.
