    Try this link:

It mentions the error you saw so hopefully, that's it. Apparently, the resolution requires the installation of a patch on the host.

DB:3.83:Unable To Add Esx 4.0 Hosts (U1 Or U2) To Vcenter (Agent Not Installing) 8m

I have a number of ESX4 hosts that when adding to a vCenter implementation sit on a Status of "In Progress" with details of "Uploading vCenter agent installer to host". After waiting 15mins or so the error "Cannot install the vCenter agent service. Cannot upload agent" is seen, and the host remains disconnected. If I then try to reconnect, I get "Cannot complete login due to an incorrect username or password) popup, them am presented with the add host wizard connection settings page.

Performing a "rpm -qa | grep vpxa" on the host, returns nothing.

vCenter Server is installed as a VM on an ESX 4 host, and that host is able to be added. No other host works. I can ping every device and enumerate dns.

Each ESX host (and the vCenter server) are all listed in DNS. The vCenter server is running on Windows 2003 R2. Firewall is off.

Anyone come across agent installation issues like this before? I've seen some KB articles on ESXi, but not ESX.

    Many thanks for any suggestions.

Just got done installing and configuring 4 new ESX 4.x U1 hosts. When I go to enable HA on the hosts I get the error "Cannot install the vCenter agent service. Cannot upload agent." I have several other 4.x U1 hosts in the environment that have HA enabled and working fine. I have tried removing the host from vCenter and re-adding to force the vpxa agent to reinstall but that didnt work. Has anyone else had ran into this issue before?

"Cannot connect to vCenter Single Sign On" / Lookup Service errors when installing Web Client 5.5 on a Windows machine in a workgroup

If you're like me and don't want to spend extra time adding Microsoft components and products to your vSphere lab, you might forgo the domain controller and simply use a workgroup machine with the DNS role as your vCenter host.

When evaluating vCenter 5.5 in a lab without a Windows domain controller, you'll need to configure the primary DNS suffix of the host machine under system properties. Appending the suffix under the network adapter configuration does not suffice.

Ensure that DNS includes your forward reverse zones, and that all vCenter infrastructure hosts have records resolving in those zones.

You'll see the FQDN listed as "hostname.xxxx.xxx" in the SSO installer, vs just the hostname.

After I ensured the SSO installer recognized the complete FQDN of the host, my Web Client installation proceeded without error. When prompted for FQDN in other vCenter installers (Inventory Service, vCenter Server,) always use the FQDN and don't let it pass just the hostname through the installer. You should be good to go!

I have lots of problem with vCenter 5.1. My environment there's no AD so I use local admin to logon.

1st Problem: vCenter cannot start after reboot.

Solution : New install vCenter and then change sequence of services before restarting. By the following :

vCenter Single Sign On Service - from Automatic (Delay) to Automatic VMware vCenter Inventory Service - from Automatic to Automatic (Delay) VMware vSphere Profile-Driven Storage Service - from Automatic to Automatic (Delay)

VMwareVCMSDS - from Automatic to Automatic (Delay)

Then everything is running fine, I tested fail-over and vMotion. vCenter is able to start

2nd Problem : After running it one day, I tested fail-over (VMWareHA) again then the "VMWare VirtualCenter Server service" stuck on starting state then it fails T_T

Could anyone can suggest the solution?

I think VMWare should release patch to fix vCenter 5.1 bugs immediately.

    Hello,

I had the same issue. Fixing the SQL Express configuration resolved the issue.

To avoid any future problem on rebooting, you can just add vpxd service dependency to ssoserver, as mentionned on previous posts or kb 2035933

    sc config vpxd depend= ssotomcat

Install vCenter Server in a Separate Installation

You can install vCenter Server separately from vCenter Single Sign-On and vCenter Inventory Service to customize the location and configuration of the components.

These instructions let you install vCenter Server only. Alternatively, you can install vCenter Server, vCenter Single Sign-On, and Inventory Service together on a single host machine using the vCenter Server Simple Install option. See Install vCenter Single Sign On, vCenter Inventory Service, and vCenter Server by Using Simple Install.
If you do not enter a license key, vCenter Server will be in evaluation mode, which allows you to use the full feature set for a 60-day evaluation period. After installation, you can enter the license key to convert vCenter Server to licensed mode.
    Note
vCenter Server 5.1 supports connection between vCenter Server and vCenter Server components by IP address only if the IP address is IPV4-compliant. To connect to a vCenter Server system in an IPv6 environment, you must use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or host name of the vCenter Server. The best practice is to use the FQDN, which works in all cases, instead of the IP address, which can change if assigned by DHCP.

When you run the Unified Agent Installer in BBSA 8.2 (to install Windows agents) it prompts you for several pre-made things, including:

    - RSCD Agent binary (added as Software MSI in the Depot)

    - Automation Principle

    - PsExec server

    - Remote Host Authentication Rule

This will create an "Agent Bundle" in Depot and an "Agent Installer Job" in Jobs. You can Open either object and edit/modify them. However, I cannot find a reference to the the Automation Principle, the PsExec server or the Rule. Are those settings saved in a place where they can be changed?

DB:2.84:Bbsa 8.2 Unified Agent Installer Question kj

Thank you sdaley, now I understand. What confused me was this was my first implementation. So I incorrectly assumed that you had to tie an Agent Installer Job to a specific Automation Principal and Rule.

But that's not the case. I went back through the Wizard and it only cares that at least one exists. And if one doesn't exist, you have to create at least one for the Wizard to continue. I misunderstood and thought I was selecting a specific one for that job.

The performance charts overview section now gives me this error message. When I upgraded I downloaded the newest media available from the website and ran the installer. I backed up my databases. Everything seemed to install well. Then I started noticing 2 issues.

    1) The hardware status tab in the vCenter UI was unavailable. I looked at the plugins and they were having an issue. I tried starting the management web service but it would not start. I quickly came to realize, that somewhere during the process, java was uninstalled. I reinstalled java and configured tom cat to point at the new java install. The hardware status tab now works perfectly. Issue resolved.

    2) The overview of the perfmon logs "experiences an internal error." This issue started happening after the install/upgrade of vCenter UI. I am using SQL express and I have 10 esx hosts. While I understand that this is an unsupported configuration, everything worked fine prior to the update and something definitely happened with the tomcat/java setup when the installer did it's thing. VMware's suggestion for fixing the issue was to buy a SQL Server Full license. Their troubleshooting techniques seemed to focus on everything but tomcat and java.

After looking through some tomcat log files I found this line which seems to correspond to me clicking on the Performance Overview button:

DB:2.82:Perf Charts Service Experienced An Internal Error. dc

I wanted to update this post. I sat down with this over the weekend and I figured out a fix for the problem. The issue seemed to be related to file permissions on the xml files located in C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\tomcat\webapps\statsreport\report. For some reason inheritance had been broken on the folder itself. The cause of the folder permission change at this point is unknown. I noticed that while all other subfolders in the "webapps" folder had inherited permissions, the report folder did not and system and the local administrators group had some permissions changed. They only had read and write access not full control. I restored permission inheritance, restarted the vCenter Server, and now everything seems to be working fine for the time being. I hope this helps someone in the future.

I would also like to point out that the SQL Server Express installation that I am using is supporting 10 hosts and over 50 virtual machines. Clearly, while this configuration is "not supported," it does work if you maintain everything properly.

    Hello all,

New install of ESXi 4 on a Dell 2850. Trying to get VMware Infrastructure to connect to the ESXi 4 server and no luck. Looking at the configuration of running services on the ESXi 4 server, in security profiles, the VMware vCenter Agent service is not running. Try to start the service and get an error of "Error during the configuration of the host:" . Tried rebooting the ESXi server, no luck. Have a VM installed on it, seems to be working otherwise.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

I have installed ESXi 4 into two pcs and i also installed vCenter in another pcs. Earlier i added that two hosts (by using IP address) into vCenter and no problem found in adding hosts into vcenter.

And then for HA doing workable i needed to remove cluster (hosts were added to that cluster) and again when i had gone to added the hosts got an error "Cannot install the vCenter agent service, Unknown installer erro" detail steps mentioned below:

i hv removed the cluster from the vcenter - no problems found

i have added cluster with enabling HA and DRS - no problems found

i have added a host vm1.gtlbd.com ( ip 114.130.4.201) - it's added and give a warning at cluster which is "insufficient resources to satisfy HA failover level" - seems another host vm2.gtlbd.com needed to be added.

now i have added another host vm2.gtlbd.com (114.130.4.202) into that cluster and gives an error which is "cannot install vcenter agent on vm2.gtlbd.com, unknown error" - a screen shot is also attached hereby. urgently need a feedback please.

    hi

i have two hosts and just one vm on each (it is my testing lab for going to real world)

i created a ha/drs cluster and tried to put these hosts in there

first one goes and just has a warning which i studied about and is not very important

the host has no management network redundancy

but the second host, does not go to cluster and says

can not install the vcenter agent service. uknown installer error

whne looking at summary tab of host i see

vsphere ha agent for this host has an error. vsphere ha cannot be correctly installed or configured

and a description below which says

error occured when vcenter attempted to initialize the vsphere ha agent runnign on the host

this condistion is often cleared by reconfiguring vsphere ha gor this host

and summary tab of cluster says

insufficient resources to satisfy vsphere ha filover on cluster ...

(which i think it is because having just one host and the cluster number of tolerated host failures)

i tried checking and unchecking the tick for the fowllowing and no chance

vcenter requires verified host ssl certificate

i also tried service.sh restart on the host and again no chance ..

this is somehow annoying. this errors and alerts remind me of microsoft products in which you cant find what it is saying and what is the problem

and last but i think not least. the host which we are talking about and does not go to cluster is hosting My Vsphere Vcenter Server. Maybe it can help to find my problem

DB:2.73:Installing Informatica Cloud Secure Agent On Ubuntu 64bit c1

    Hi Steven

Happy New Year to you too!

Thank you for your response. The reason is because, beleive it or not, this is a machine which has already got Oracle Java 7 and Oracle 11g XE installed on. It is an appliance I am building on a USB HDD. :-)

I know there are workarounds to get this working. Install 32bit Java in a seperate home, change JAVA_HOME, introduce symlinks etc... But I thought maybe there is a 64bit solution out of the box. Nevermind I can get it working one way or another.

The reason I am buiding this USB bootable hard drive is POC really and a tool I can use to analyse large informatica error.csv files with SQL. I was thinking of using the informatica loader free software to load the error.csv files into Oracle XE free database and analyse. All in one place. Kind of debug tool.

    Many thanks for your help.

    All the best.

I alwas add %oracle_home% to system environment %path%, copy folder oracle from another computer to my server.
I can create oracle server service by "oradim -new -sid %sidname%" and work with oracle database and create listner service by "lsnrctl start".
I not have wanted version distributive oracle. If I install by OUI from later version of distributive oracle, database on this server not starting.

Thanks for the tip. I was able to start the service by stopping the Quest Foglight agent that was running on the box first and then restarting VCO. Hi,

Recently i set up vcenter 4.1. Already i have added some ESX 4.0 and 4.1 hosts to the newly deployed vcenter server 4.1. When adding one ESX 4.0 server i am getting error message as "Cannot install vcenter agent service. Cannot upload agent".

When i add that ESX 4.0 Host to my old Vcenter server 4.0, its been added successfully. But i am facing problem while adding to vCenter server 4.1.

For this issue rebooting the host is the only solution ?

You could try force the uninstall of the old agent:

    - rpm -qa | grep vpx --- this will list the version of VPXA agent installed.

    - rpm -qa | grep aam -- this will list the version of aam agent installed.

It will be better if you provide the complete job run log

BTW you can also do a couple of checks -

    1. sshd is running on target machine.

    2. NSH_INSTALL_DIRECTORY/bin/rscd is not present on target machine. you can run 'cat /usr/lib/rsc/HOME' to find the install directory

Everything works great and ESXi auto-installs with the kickstart script and then after %firstboot it runs this script, or if i run it manually with # python joinvCenter.py from the service console. In the logs it lists out all of the syslog messages generated from the script saying it successfully joined vCenter but it does not actually join and I see no signs of life from vCenter or in the vCenter logs. vCenter does not appear to do anything, like sending out the agent etc.

This is unclear, is this just for the startup of the installer or startup of VUM each time the service starts?

    Problem solved:

There was a "task" stuck, for over a week for that VM (owner was vpxuser), on the ESX server hosting the VM. The task did not show up under Virtual Center, but if you connected directly into the ESX server using the vSphere client, you could see it there. We ran the following commands on the ESX server to free it up:

DB:2.59:Help! Steps For Changing Ip Address Of Vcenter Server? Getting Error Adding Hosts To Vcenter Now :( a3

I recently had a need to change the IP of my vCenter server, and I believe that since then, I'm unable to add any new hosts. When I attempt to add additional hosts to vCenter, I go through the wizard, enter the credentials, etc.... The add process starts, gets to about 82%, and then errors our with "Cannot install the vCenter agent service. Cannot upload agent". Any thoughts on why this is?

I'm assuming it's related to the IP change, but not entirely sure. The hosts that I'm unable to add were built from scratch (ESX 4 Update 1) after the vCenter IP changed, so I don't think it's an issue with DNS, etc.. on the hosts. DNS is in place and working correctly. I can ping the hosts (using hostname) from the vCenter server, and vice versa.

Something I noticed on the vCenter server, is that these files have the old vCenter IP in them:

    - "C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\proxy.xml"

    - "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\extensions\VirtualCenter\extension.xml"

I changed them to the new IP, but it worries me that there might be more files/settings that need to be manually modified. Does anyone have an idea of the steps required when re-IPing vCenter? I called VMware yesterday, and the person I spoke with said "You'll want to rebuild your vCenter server!" That's an absolutely unacceptable response, for something as simple as changing an IP.

    Thoughts?

DB:2.59:Cant Connect Vcenter 4.1 To Vsphere 4.0 U2 Hosts zj

Just upgraded vcenter 4.0 U2 to 4.1 without any problems and also did update manager.

However all my hosts are now showing as disconnected.

I can correctly login to the hosts using the vsphere client directly but when trying to add them back into vcenter I get the following error:

Cannot install the vcenter agent server. Cannot upload agent.

The hosts had the default vsphere 4 u2 install on them and the only additonal thing which had been done was to enable SSH for root access (will be disabled later).

    Any ideas on this ?

ended up needing a few reboots and it all started working again with no changes.

was then able to push the 4.1 host update out using vcenter update manager without problems

    Salve a tutti!

    service mgmt-vmware restart

    ricevo regolarmente il messaggio

    -ash: service: not found

St diventando matto! Per cercare di risolvere un problema me se ne presentano altri!!!!

    Potete aiutarmi?!?!?!

    Grazie mille a tutti anticipatamente

    DB:2.58:Ssh Console sj

    ok....

allora dove trovo i comandi per esxi?!?!?

Io vorrei solo provare a disinstallare il vcenter agent e reinstallarlo come suggerisce l'articolo che ho postato....

    DB:2.58:Esxi 5.0/5.1 And Compellent Vaai 9z

I am having trouble trying to figure out the setup of VMware 5.0/5.1 using a Compellent SAN. I'm trying to gather information on the current VAAI setup but cannot get anything to come up.

    Command:

    esxcli vaai device list

    Result:

Error: Unknown command or namespace vaai device list

It seems that the entire vaai command set is either not installed or not available and I have no idea why. I have multiple ESXi hosts running 5.0.0 U1, 5.1 upgraded from the previous, and clean 5.1 installs. I'm running vCenter 5.1, vCLI 5.1, PowerCLI 5.1. I have tried direct console connections as well as the remote shells.

Is there some package I need to install on the host to enable VAAI command set? Is there a service I need to start up?

The Compellent SAN is running version 5.5.3 firmware soon to be upgraded to 6.x - the Compellent Enterprise Manager is running 6.2.2.8 and my virtual machines using physical RDMs have the latest Compellent Agent installed. My main goal is to enable the Compellent Space Recovery which I have read and been told should be supported in my setup.

Any help would be appreciated in figuring out the VAAI namespace issues to start.

    Thanks,

    Scott K.

You'll need to get to version 6.x of Compellent Storage Center firmware for all of the VAAI primitives to be natively supported by ESXi 5.x.

Greetings. I'm in the middle of an upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 to manage two ESX hosts. I was able to add the first ESX 4.0 host and upgrade it to 4.1 without any problems. However, I can't add the second host. The vSphere client complains that it "Cannot install the vCenter agent service. Cannot upload agent."

Logging into the host via ssh, I noticed there is no vmware-vpxa service, and 'rpm -qa | grep -i vpxa' returns nothing.

This thread suggests I can restore the agent service just by adding the host under vSphere:

    http://communities.vmware.com/thread/282248#282248

But again, I can't add the host because of that missing agent error.

Thanks in advance for clues on getting this host into a 4.1 cluster.

Perhaps vCenter may see it installed even though it doesnt detect it? I do not see any evidence of this.

I actually had lunch with a colleague yesterday who had an Vmware SR opened because a host was actually showing joined to vCenter in the lgos of vCenter even though it wasn't. It was a rather odd occurance.

Take a read a the mentioned thread as it contains very useful information.

    Hello,

I am usingvSphere 5, and have installed vCenter Server and vSphere Client. I usede the vCenter Installer for the installs. Everything is running on vm's running on Workstation 8. This is essentially a lab I am setting up for preparing for VMWare certification.

Everything was working fine (server has connected ESXi hosts, a server cluster, other learning things, etc.) until today when the base physical server rebooted itself after Microsoft performed automatic updates overnight (the physical server is running Windows 7 Professional).

However, now the vCenter Server service is not starting for some reason (it is set for Automatic (Delayed Start).

I am looking at the application log on the event viewer, and there is the following VMWare Virtual Center Server error 1000:

The description for Event ID 1000 from source VMware VirtualCenter Server cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

Short of reinstalling all of vCenter Server and the Client, does anyone have any idea what I might do to address this?

    Thanks!

My problem was that I had installed IIS (to use for hosting SMTP for VMWare event messages) when I didn't realize I cannot do that. I uninstalled IIS and problem disappeared...

DB:2.56:Problem After Upgrade Vcenter Server Patch 1 pj

    Hi cfp2000

I have found a website that may be help you solve your issue.

vCenter Server Service does not start automatically

    http://www.vladan.fr/vcenter-server-service-does-not-start-automaticaly

I had this issue with vCenter Server on my home lab. Virtual Center starts before the SQL database it depends on. I found a solution in a KB on VMwares website.

This article provides steps to prevent the race condition from occurring. VirtualCenter service does not start after reboot.

First I checked log files of vCenter here: C:\Windows\Temp\VPX

I suppose that VirtualCenter Server service can be started manually with no problems. This is my case.

You need to add a dependency to the VirtualCenter service so that it waits for SQL Express remedies this.

    To create a service dependency:

    1. Click Start Run. Type services.msc and press Enter.

    2. Locate the SQL instance for VirtualCenter. For example, SQL Server (SQLEXP_VIM).

    3. Open the SQL Express instance and note the Service Name. For example, MSSQL$SQLEXP_VIM .

    4. In the Run dialog, type Regedit.exe and press Enter. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vpxd

    5. Double-click the DependOnService key and add the Service name using the name identified in step 3.

    6. Go back to the Services Panel and open the SQL Server properties.

    7. On the Dependencies tab, verify the VMware VirtualCenter service is listed as depending on the SQL service instance.

DB:2.56:The Windows Installer Could Not Be Accessed. zc

I first notice this problemafter the Microsoft agent wasmessingwith my registry for we were in the process fo fixing my game. He is almost completed with fixing this issue, but the service pack 1 for the game could not install. After that, everytime I
log into Windows, an "unknown"Windows Installer window keeps on popping up.
I try to cancel the Windows Installer pop-up, but it keeps on restarting. So I used Task Mananger to end the task of this unkown Windows Installer pop-up, and when it stops responding the Windows Error Reporting says that my HP Digital Image Monitor stops
    responding.
So then I decided to uninstall the HP Digital Image Monitor. I was sucessful in installing it and I restarted my computer.
When I logged back into my computer, I started to install the HP Digital Image Monitor. I was in the process of installing until an error message popped up stating, "The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows
Installer service is not correctly installed. Contact your support perssonel for assistance." Now, I was thinking that the service pack 1 for mygame failed because Windows Installer is not working. HP Digital Image Monitor, which also uses Windows
    Installer, failed also.
I tried some troubleshooting steps such as unregistering and reregistering the Windows Installer service, but no avail! I alsotried finding theWOW64registrykey underHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer\,
    but couldn't find it.
I tried using theSystem File Checker Scan also, and after it completed checking my system, it said it repaired something, but I don't know what.
I've also checked if the Windows Installer service startup typeis disabled, and it is in automatic. I've also tried manual, but same problem. I tried force starting the service, but it says something about it starting, but stopped automatically because
they are not in used by other services or programs.
I've tried all these troubleshooting steps, but the problem still exists. Can someone help bring my Windows Installer back to normal? I have Windows 7 64-bit and Windows ® Installer. V 5.0.7600.16385.

DB:2.56:The Windows Installer Could Not Be Accessed. zc

I have been trying to solve this for quite a few days now. Everything that is Posted out there does not work. I have Windows 7 and I tried to install Service Pack 1... it failed. Ever since then, Windows Installer cannot be accessed error 106 keeps coming
up when I try to install anything. Also, windows Media Player does not work either. I have tried everything that is posted out there for a fix. I tried the whol msiexec/unreg and msiexec/regserver I have tried the hot fix patch that is supposed to work, still
doesn't. There is no distributive pack out there for Windows Installer 5.0 so I can't download a new one. I have tried the sfc/scannow and that cannot run, it says my PC needs to restart and I have restarted again and again and still the same thing, it will
not run. I can't tell you how many other things I have tired. When I run msiexec.exe I get no errors and this screen comes up:

DB:2.56:Vcenter Upgrade Issue - "Make Sure Sql Server Agent Service Is Running" k8

I'm attempting to upgrade from Virtual Center 2.5 U5 to vCenter 4.0 U1. I'm following the "Upgrading to vCenter Server on a New Machine" method from the vSphere Upgrade Guide. In my current Virtual Center environment, I have a seperate VC server and a seperate MS SQL server.

I have built a new vCenter server running 2008 x64 Std edition. I have also created a 32-bit DSN to my existing SQL server. Both the ODBC connection test passes successfully and the "Agent Pre-upgrade Check" passes successfully.

During the install, I select the correct 32-bit DSN from the dropdown menu and then enter my SQL credentials for my database. I immediately get a pop-up prompting me to verify that the SQL Server Agent service is running. If I click OK, it returns me to the credentials prompt. I cannot get past this. I have verified that I have DBO rights to the MSDB database on the SQL server and that the SQL Agent is in fact running.

    Any ideas???

DB:2.55:Vcenter Update Manager (Vum) - Not Available On Eval Version Of Vcenter? 81

    Hello,

I have an eval version of vCenter Server running and I wanted to install VUM as well. However, when I go to install it from the Installer, one step requires vCenter Server IP addr/hostname, port, and username and password.

However, I never had to provide a user name and password when installing vCenter Server, and the VUM installer insists that I provide one (won't let me go to the next step).

I was thinking perhaps the licensed version of vCenter Server requires username/password and the eval simply does not?

Does anyone know whether the fact that I using an eval version the reason that I cannot specify username password, and therefore prevents my installing VUM?

I would be grateful for any ideas.

    thank you!

DB:2.55:Vcenter Update Manager (Vum) - Not Available On Eval Version Of Vcenter? 81

You're going to use the same credentials you might use to connect your vSphere Client to vCenter. These will be either local Windows credentials, or Active Directory credentials.

You don't provide any credentials during the vCenter installation, as it's essentially a standalone piece of software, and not connecting to anything, and does not have to authenticate against anything.

Update Manager, on the other hand, is not a standalone piece of software, and requires connectivity to vCenter. But we don't let just anything connect to vCenter, so VUM has to "log in" to vCenter in order to work with it. This means providing a username/password with which you can authenticate to vCenter.

    DB:2.54:Vsphere Authentication Proxy - Help !!!! kc

    Hey All

I've been trying to get VAP to work but it keeps failing and I dont even know where to start troubleshooting the problem. My issue is simply when I try to install it it keeps coming up with an " Error 29106: Unknown Error ". I've done some searching around and no one seems to have an idea of what my issue is pertaining to:

My setup is as as follows:

    - Win2K8 STD x64 SP1 OS (as per the install doc)

    - Has Auto deploy installed locally (as well as vCenter 5.1 up1)

    - I am not using any type of certs (except the self signed one)

I'm trying to install it using a domain account (that has access to the entire domain) and it goes through fine but then right towards the end it fails with the above error and rolls back (not leaving any logs to query). If anyone can help me (or point me to some log files that can help) that would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know if the account that it creates as per the documentation quote below:

" When you install the vSphere Authentication Proxy service, the installer creates a domain account with appropriate privileges to run the authentication proxy service. The account name begins with the prefix CAM- and has a 32-character, randomly generated password associated with it. The password is set to never expire. Do not change the account settings."

I take it from that we cannot change the name of the domain account. The reason why I ask is we have strict procedures as to the naming of domain accounts in my company and this naming context would go against our naming standards. (Is there an entry in the VC advanced settings area that would allow you to change the name maybe??)

Thanks for any help in advance

However my installation path is as follows " d:\vmware\vmware authentication proxy " unless the spaces might be an issue ?!?!? (or maybe length might be a problem). According to the Vsphere 5.5 U2 documentation:

Updating vCenter Server with Service Packs

VMware provides service packs to update the vCenter Server 5.x software and third-party components.
vCenter Server service pack releases can include updates to vCenter Server, Inventory Service, vCenter Single Sign On, and Profile-Driven Storage Service.
vCenter Server 5.x service packs will be available from the VMware Web site. The service pack update process updates files and registry settings required by vCenter Server, and restart Windows services that are stopped during the update.

Is this done with Update Manager, or is there a download from the VMware website?
I just need to upgrade my Vcenter 5.5.0 (1750787) to the latest release, and am looking for the easiest way to do this without doing a full re-install of the Vcenter 5.5 U2 .iso download.

I cannot find any service pack download for this on Vmware's website.

    Thanks.

Thanks! I didn't know that it would detect and upgrade only. The Link you posted though, doesn't work.. I guess it's unique to your session.
