DB:3.73:Protect Object From Accidental Deletion jk

All greetings! Prompt it is possible as that at once in all OU to enable Protect object from accidental deletion?

DB:3.73:Protect Object From Accidental Deletion jk

    Hi,

By default, OUs created in Windows Server 2008 ADUC will being protected from accidental deletion. This feature adds Everyone group to the Security
DACL on the OU with Deny ACE to both Delete and Delete Subtree permissions; it also sets a Deny ACE the parent OU for Everyone group to Delete All Child Objects.

OUs created on Windows Server 2003 or Windows 2000 Server DC will not will being protected from accidental deletion. If you would like to enable this
feature on all OUs at one time, you can use this script:

DB:3.69:Protect Object From Accidental Deletion And Delegated Rights Over Computer Objects fj

    Hi guys,
This is probably a question covered many a time so apologies if it has, although i cant find one with a solution that i want.
So i have delegated rights for a certain group to manage computer objects which is fine works just how i want it, or works at least where prevent accidental deletion is not ticked, which makes sense, but i want to be able to leave that ticked but remove
the deny delete permission on computer objects from the everyone permission set at each OU level as a result of the prevent accidental deletion object being checked, where it is set on each OU it means you have to touch every OU instead of being able to delegate
the permission or retract it at the top of the tree... does anyone know a way to remove just this one permission at the top of the tree or at least conteract it??
    Thanks,
    Adam

I am setting up a new server. I finished installing updates and setup active directory. When I run Best Practices Analyzer, I got a message, Some organizational units (OUs) in this domain are not protected from accidental deletion. As
per the directions, I started Active Directory Administrative Center, right clicked on the OU and tried to check the box. However, the Protect from accidental deletion box is greyed out. I then tried the Powershell options given in

    Hi,
I put a support call into MS. Turns out I misunderstood the concept of Run as Administrator. I always believed it mean Run as local Administrator and so had no affect on access to domain resources.
Turns out what it really mean is Run with all the privelages ceded to this user, because when a user logs on their privelages are stripped out and for the most part run as standard users. When you Run as Administrator you don't all of a sudden change
security context, and certainly don't become a local PC Administrator. Instead you just get to use all of the privelages granted to you. So, if you are a standard user to begin with Run as Administrator isn't going to do much. I hope that
clears up why I was confused, didn't try Run as Administrator andposted the question.
    Cheers,
    Charles

I want to protect my folders in $HOME from an accidental deletion. I applied chattr +i on them but i noticed that the last is applied recursively, thus, indeed the folder cant be deleted but also i cant write in it.

I also tried to apply a sticky bit with chmod 1775 and change the ownership of the folder with chown root foldername. Normally, with sticky bit enabled, only the owner of the folder can delete it but, strangely, in my case although the folder is owned by root, i can delete it with my normal user.

I noticed that the users folders in /home partition, although they are owned by the current user and have rwx permissions for the owner, they cant be deleted/changed. How is this achieved?

    DB:2.90:Sticky Bit And Chattr k8

It would require sticky bit to be set to every subfolder in /home. sticky bit isnt applied recursively by default. If youre worried about deleting your own files by accident it seems to me a better solution would be a daily incremental backup using something like rdiff-backup.

Does this old thread possibly describe your situation?
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverDS/thread/16680d9c-e01d-4f1c-b1f5-8e1fa21982ff
When you moved an object in ADUC by dragging it, was it in an OU with no child OU's protected from deletion (so you were successful)? But, when you used PowerShell to move an object, was it in an OU that has child OU's protected from deletion (so it failed)?
If so, this strange behavior is described in the thread I linked. The problem then is not with PowerShell, but the distorted logic used by ADUC to assign the deny permissions.

No problem. That's not an obvious solution since it's not clear to most what that XML file does (it's an automatic export of the library file, primarily for other applications to be able to access your library listing without the developer having to figure out the structure of the main library file), so it's not something that would occur to most.

The safest way is to not use the Inbox for long term storage. Make folders for your important and keeper messages and move them out of the Inbox and into those folders. This also keeps your Inbox for the purpose it was designed for.

When I first tested this, I noticed that protect object from accidental deletion adds and explicit deny for everyone to delete and delete subtree for that object only. However, after testing a bit further, I noticed that if you create a protected OU inside
another protected OU, the parent OU will also gain the ACE deny Delete All Child Objects for the everyone group.
Now, why on earth would that be a good thing?? I know most of you will answer because of accidental deletion but if that's the case then the child OU should also have the same rights (and all the problems that are inherited with the having of
    these rights).
A move of an object is a create on the target OU and a delete on the parent OU. This basically means that if you have:
An OU named Groups that is protected from deletion, with a child OU called Specific Groups also protected from deletion, with a Group called My Test Group under Groups OU and another group called My Specific
Test Group under Specific Groups OU then My Test Group cannot be moved, deleted, etc whilst My Specific Test Group can, despite the fact that both OUs are protected from deletion. Even if you then delegate rights to
Create, Move and Delete groups because the deny takes precedence the delegation would be useless...
Unless you are an organization where you never have an OU inside an OU containing other objects, how would you possibly benefit from this, and is there a way (without doing it manually) protect ONLY OU's from deletion without protecting child objects?

    Hello,
I am wondering if there is a way to disable the default Protect object from accidental deletion check box when creating a new OU. If it is possible, can it be set for a specific OU or will it apply to all newly created OUs? I was looking into setting permissions
on the OU and doing something with inheritance, but I cannot seem to find a setting that will remove the box on already created OUs. I plan on using dsquery and dsacls if I cannot do something with inheritance, but I would rather have it be set for all new

Ihave changed the Visibility Mode in AD to List Object Access Mode. Also i have removed List Contents permissions to Authenticated Users group from the default security of the OU Object Class, so that any new user is created Auth Users will not have
List Contents permissions. I have added a new group (OU Listing Group) to the security of the OU Object Class and gave it List Contents, Read Property and Read Permissions.
Now the user who is trying to join a comp to the domain is a member of group which has been delegated CreateDelete Comp Objects, Read Write All Properties permissions at the Domain Level.
I get an access denied error when joining the comp to the domain.

    Question:
1.When Create Delete Comp Objects, Read Write All Properties permissions are delegated at the Domain Level, is it not sufficient? Should the same rights be delegated out on the Comp Container also?
2.Does removing Auth Users List Content permissions on Default OU Object class cause any issues (Its a multi-tenancy env, hence using LO Mode)

I just noticed that making raws and/or sidecars read-only will not protect against accidental deletion.

If a photo has been made read-only - its for a reason! - dont write to it, AND dont delete it! Its easy enough to check, and easy enough to prompt the user - why not just do that.

PS - I just realized Windows itself does not respect this attribute and allows deletion of read-only files. Still, that does not mean Lightroom can not respect it...

Read-only attribute could be a way for user and/or plugin to keep files from being inadvertently written and/or deleted.

PS - Lightroom presently strips read-only attributes from card files upon import, and I think there should be an option to maintain the read-only attributes at this stage as well.

    Rob

    Thanks Thomas,

I guess "that"'s why Jeffrey Friedl is using publish collections to implement delete protection, instead of file permissions.

I'm "back burnering" the idea for a plugin to use file permissions to protect files from deletion, but I'd still like to see lightroom institute delete protection natively. The use of the read-only flag for that purpose seems like a good idea, even if it were not the only mechanism...

    Thanks again,

    Hi Tallyho,

The protected images cannot be deleted using the “Delete” function in the camera. They will get deleted only if you have formatted the memory card, in which case all the data from the card will be erased.

When you protect an image using the “Protect” function of the camera, a mark is displayed for the image. So, before deleting multiple images in the camera, make sure that the images that you do not wish to delete have the mark and you are using the Delete option.

    Regards, Daddy ;)

DB:2.55:How To Restrict Files Deletion In The Public Libraries d3

    Hello MZ2001,
You can achieve it in two ways:
    1. Turn on password protected sharing.
    2. create a seperate folder, copy all pictures to it and share that folder with read only option. To apply read only, follow the below steps:
Setting your important or personal files to read-only can help protect them from unintentional or unauthorized changes. When a file is set to read-only, it can't be changed.
    1. Right-click the file that you want to set to read-only, and then click Properties.

    2. Click the General tab, select the Read-only check box, and then click OK.
If you need to make changes to the file later, you can turn off the read-only setting by clearing the Read-only check box.
In the same way that you set a file to read-only, you can set a folder to read-only. However, it doesn't affect the folder itself. Setting a folder to read-only makes all the files currently in the folder read-only. Any files that you add to the folder
after you set it to read-only won't automatically be read-only files.
For more information, refer the below link:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Prevent-changes-to-a-file-by-setting-it-to-read-only
To turn on password-protected sharing in Windows 7
    1. Open Advanced sharing settings by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type network, click Network and Sharing Center, and then, in the left pane, click Change
    advanced sharing settings.

    2. Click the chevron
to expand the Home or Work network profile.

    3. Under Password protected sharing, click Turn on password protected sharing, and then click Save changes.
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    4. Now go to the folder that contains the files you would like to share, right click that folder and click on Share…

Note: You can also do password protected file sharing if you right click the folder and click Properties.
    5. File Sharing window will appear. Since you have enabled password protected sharing, select the user that you wish to share folder/file with and click Add.

    6. Note: For setting file permissions, you can have these 3 selection, choose the one that you need:
Reader – Can only view or read files in the shared folder.

Contributor - Permit the person or group to view all files, add files, and change or delete the files that they add.
Co-owner - Permit the person or group to view, change, add, and delete files in the shared folder.

Note: Only enable file sharing with read, modify and write permission if you really need to. If not, Read only permission is enough.

    7. The next window will tell you that your folder is shared, click Done to close the window. Password protected file sharing is done!

The client I am currently working with has partially set the Protect from Accidental Deletion attribute on their AD...I want to extend this feature to ALL organisation units (OUs) in their forest (but only to the OUs and nothing else). I know how to use
    PS to do for ALL objects however, I'm having problems with the Filter. I've attempted the following command (and various iterations) but they seem to fail on the filter;

    Get-ADobject -Filter organizationalUnit -SearchBase “OU=OU1,DC=DomainComponet2,DC=DomainComponent1” | Set-adobject -ProtectedFromAccidentalDeletion $true

Does anyone know what the { -Filter organizationalUnit } part should be...?

This one I found to be the easiest. Works perfect if only one forest. Simple, easy and effective!
    Get-ADOrganizationalunit -filter 'Name -like *' | Set-adobject -ProtectedFromAccidentalDeletion $true

I have a number of templates that use ASK fields to generate a document.
The problem I keep running into is that the end user will change the date by back spacing and erase the input fields.
When the document is updated before printing, all of the REFERENCE fields show "Error reference not found".

Currently I have the ASK fields located as the very first item in the document, which happens to be the same general location as the date.

Is there a location, or method to protect these fields from accidental deletion?

To trigger fields in the header, your macro would have to tell Word to update fields there. For example:

    DB:2.49:Prevent Dsa.Msc From Deleting User Accounts 9z

    Hello,
I am trying to implement something like the OU's Protect from accidental deletion on the user accounts. The problem here is that I am still member of Domain Admins, I have the right to Take ownership. So although I remove all permissions to a user account,
remove inheritance and set the permissions so that they are ONLY and EXACTLY:
Everyone = Deny = DELETE, DELETE SUBTREE
    Everyone = Allow = READ
Owner = some single user account, not me, not Domain Admins, not Administrators
The DSA console just takes ownership of the object, changes the permissions and deletes the object (probably). The only auditing info I get from this operation is just:
    DS Access: Failure - Delete
Account Management: Success - user deleted
So I would like to know:
    a) how to prevent DSA from deleting user accounts when I am Domain Admins member.
    b) what the ____ happens that I do not see any auditing info on the object having permissions/owner changed after the first DS Access delete fails.
    thank you very much.

    ondrej.

    DB:2.49:Prevent Dsa.Msc From Deleting User Accounts 9z

everything solved. sory for troubling. the OU had the DELETE User Objects permission which was not audited and was actually used to delete the object instead of the permissions on the user object itself.

If the Protect from Accidental Deletion option is enabled on the OU to be moved, you will get “Access denied” message when you attempt to perform Move-ADObject operation. That is by design.

Hope you were successful with your problem.
From Frank's offer I though that maybe the problem was due to security issue on the mailbox I tried to delete.
As I suspected the user didn't inherited all the security settings from the active directory.
In case you still want to delete the mailbox but can't try looking at the security tab on the user in-question and make sure that he inherits all the security settings.
In case you can't find the security tab go back to the Active Directory Users And Computer window click view and check the Advanced Feature option.

    hi!

is there any way to protect cloud storage from accidental deletion

if i have understood it correctly you can delete your cloud storage like this

    - you have younited client running and you delete you local younited folder... deletion syncs and removes everything??

    - you remove your Source from client?, well, my laptop is a source named "Laptop1", and i have younited folder 100gb syncing to my hdd... but clicking this Laptop1 Source in client, shows that this source doesn't have anythin in it?. Would deleting this Source still delete everything on my younited-folder. Only source that shows stuff , is my Samsung S4 , hmm??

dumb questions, but i'm a bit confused ...and afraid that i might delete everything accidentally

I would like to make sure that i don't delete anything from younited at any point when playing with multiple younited clients and computers... deleting only with clients trash-option would be suitable for me

    -aki-

    DB:2.42:Protect From Deletion 8a

    Hi,

removing a source will remove all content associated with that source. If there's no content associated (so when you click on the source in the client, nothing is shown), then you should be able to remove the source without anything happening.

removing content from the local younited folder on a client should mean that that content is removed across ALL devices connected to that account.

    does this help?

    DB:2.41:Xi3.1 And Delegated Admin? cc

    Hi Phil!

I think it is designed as is - but did you try to use Windows AD Groups.

You can enable specific windows AD groups to BO. These will be created automatically the first time they logon, or you can trigger an AD refresh. So the users are created automatically.

You admins could then have the rights to see the users only and to see/edit their own set of Groups, where they can put these users to. Also you can define which admin sees which objects (reports, universes, connections, ...)

But: you will get an issue if you loose/change your AD connection to your server, then everything must be redone.

Unfortunately delete Conformation Dialog will appear once when you delete a file and it is by design, we cannot change it.

However, when you delete a file or folder they will be moved to “Recycle bin”. If you want to restore the deleted files, open “Recycle bin”, right click on the file, select “Restore”.

DB:2.37:Problems Removing A Former Domain Controller From Active Directory 7j

We recently had a domain controller go down without an opportunity to demote it using dcpromo. It was also a global catalog server and a dns server.
It does not have the protect object from accidental deletion box checked when you go into properties.
When we try to delete it, we get the following error: you do not have sufficientprivilegesto delete CN=maul,OU=domain controllers,DC=domain,DC=loc, or this object is protected from accidental deletion (domainbeing
    our actual domain name)
The last thing that the server had been used for was to do a test installation of Exchange Server 2010. Our Active Directory is at the Domain and Forest Functional level of Windows Server 2008.
If it makes any difference we put the replacement server on the same VMWARE server using the same mac address and ip but a different server name than the prior server
    Any help would be appreciated

DB:2.37:Problems Removing A Former Domain Controller From Active Directory 7j

Yes you can promote the server as DC with same name,ip address but ensure that you have run metadata cleanup before proceeding with same. Also if the server was FSMO role holder you need to sieze the role.
    Clean Up Server Metadata
You can clean up server metadata by using the following:
    Graphical user interface (GUI) tools
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816907(WS.10).aspx#bkmk_graphical

    The Command line

    http://msmvps.com/blogs/acefekay/archive/2010/10/05/complete-step-by-step-to-remove-an-orphaned-domain-controller.aspx
Once metdata is completed remove the instances of failed server from AD sites and services and dns.

To remove the failed server object from the sites
    1. In Active Directory Sites and Services, expand the appropriate site.
    2. Delete the server object associated with the failed domain controller.
To remove the failed server object from the domain controllers container
    1. In Active Directory Users and Computers, expand the domain controllers container.
    2. Delete the computer object associated with the failed domain controller.
To remove the failed server object from DNS
    1. In the DNS snap-in, expand the zone that is related to the domain from where the server has been removed.
    2. Remove the CNAME record in the _msdcs.root domain of forest zone in DNS. You should also delete the HOSTNAME and other DNS records.
    3. If you have reverse lookup zones, also remove the PTR record of the server from these zones.
After promoting the new DC also ensure that PDC role holder server is configured as
    authorative time server.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042.Please also make sure that udp port 123 which as direction the chosen NTP server is not blocked.Best Regards,

DB:2.37:2008r2 Ad: Delegated Permissions To Move User Objects Not Working Only For 1 Sub-Ou dm

Hi - In our 2008R2-level AD, I have a service account that my PowerShell script runs as nightly in order to sync up user attributes re-organize staff user objects into sub-OU's, per authoritative data from our HR system. There's a Staff
OU and then various sub-OU's defined for our internal organizational structure. All staff user objects are in the sub-OU's. I've delegated this account appropriate permissions on the Staff OU and can confirm that they are propogating down to the
sub-OU's as expected. This works just fine except for 1 of the sub-OU's. In this particular sub-OU, the service account can successfully modify user attributes, but attempts to move any user object in this sub-OU to another sub-OU at the same level
fail with access denied. This is the only sub-OU where this happens. The service account can move user objects between any of the other sub-OU's, and can even move user objects into this sub-OU, but it cannot move any user objects out
    of that sub-OU.
I've gone through line-by-line on the Advanced Security properties of this sub-OU compared to another at the same level, and they are identical. I've also tried re-delegating the permissions to no avail. I've also run the ADUC MMC as this
service account, and experience the same access denied error when I try to move user objects out of this sub-OU manually via drag 'n drop(to elimiate my PS code as the potential problem point). I've also verified that users it is trying
to move out of this sub-OU do not have the protect object from accidental deletion option checked.
This AD implementation precedes my employment, and there is a lot of legacy stuff in here. I'm not sure what else I could check. Does anyone have any ideas on things I should check?
    Thanks in advance.

DB:2.37:2008r2 Ad: Delegated Permissions To Move User Objects Not Working Only For 1 Sub-Ou dm

I should also note that this Deny Everyone entry was not denying my ability to move the user object out of that OU as Domain Admin. However, that Deny Everyone entry does deny my ability to delete the OU itself. There must be something unique
about Domain Admins that cause certain Deny entries to apply to them not others.

DB:2.37:How To Check For The Success/Failure Of A Command jc

The following script, will protect an OU in active directory from being accidentally deleted:
    # Set the Prevent accidental deletion on OU's where it is not set
    Get-ADOrganizationalUnit -filter * -Properties ProtectedFromAccidentalDeletion | `
    where {$_.ProtectedFromAccidentalDeletion -eq $false} | `
    Set-ADOrganizationalUnit -ProtectedFromAccidentalDeletion $true
This is so efficent compared to the comparable code in VBscript or in using theDSACLs command. My question is how to do error checking for the success/failure of the set-ADOrganizationalUnit commandlet? In VBscript, for example, I would
use something like the following psuedo code:
    Do until RecordSet.eof
    Read ADobject
    If err.number 0 then
    If err.number = n then
    Some error
    Else
    Another error
    End if
    Else
    Process ADobject
    End if
    Loop

Can you suggest some similar powershell code?

DB:2.37:Excluso De Grupos Dentro Do Ad 8k

Olá amigo, ele está marcado para não ser deletado por engano, faça.
O Active Directory do Windows Server 2008 apresenta uma opção no momento da criação das
Unidades Organizacionais (OU) denominada como “Proteger contêiner contra exclusão acidental“.

O objetivo principal dessa opção é evitar a

Pronto, agora basta voltar a tela anterior (Usuários e Computadores do Active Directory) e excluir a Unidade Organizacional desejada.

Is there a windows disk management api or some other api by which i can protect the partition from deletion/format.
Actually, currently all OEM RESCUE/RESTORE/BACKUP partitions on laptops can be deleted with no effort. I am just figuring out how to protect the partition so that a user can't delete/format it at least from within windows.

DB:2.35:Is It Possible To Protect A Top Level Ou From Being Renamed 9x

We recently had an incident where one of our admins accidentally(?) renamed a top level OU which resulted in numerous systems being unable to authenticate users.
I know it is possible to protect OUs from accidental deletion but I would like to know if there is a way to protect them from being renamed.

We have removed the person is question from the domain admin group, but obviously having had this happen once I would like to add a level of protection and prevent this kind of accident from happening again.

DB:2.35:Is It Possible To Protect A Top Level Ou From Being Renamed 9x

I agree domain admin accounts should not be used unless that level of access is needed, but moving into a job where the admins have their domain admin account as their only account it's kind of difficult to convince the management to change this, especially
when some of them have been here using that account for 20 years.
Maybe this will convince them to change things.

Quick background. I work in an AD environment where I am tasked with restructuring the AD that contains 8000+ computer objects and 10000+ user objects spread throughout 100+ OUs and subordinate OUs.  I know I can right-click and choose the 'move' option on the TL OUs, but somewhere nested inside most of the OUs are objects that have the 'protect object from accidental deletion' option checked.  How can I unset this attribute recursively without visiting each object and unchecking the option individually?  VB, PS, or Batch/CMD would be preferable.

DB:2.35:Removing The Default Protect Object From Accidental Deletion On New Ous k3

I'm going to be blunt, this is justan astoundinglybad feature. I can't have people making OUs with this box checked as it breaks basic functionality in our environment.
I want the default to go away, after being beaten and tortured, but left alive to suffer.
To be clear: When making an OU I want the Protect object from accidental deletion box to be unchecked by default.

Please tell me how to make it so.

DB:2.35:Removing The Default Protect Object From Accidental Deletion On New Ous k3

If you remove the check from the box in the OUs where the Help Desk has problems deleting and re-adding workstations, I don't see where that would solve the issue. That ACE shouldn't be inherited by the computer objects. It's likely a permissions
problem on the OUs that is not related.
As long as the ACLs on theOUs list the Help Desk groupwith Create Computer Objects and Delete Computer Objects on This object and all descendant objects and Full Control on Descendantcomputer objects, they should be able to do what
they need to do.(Or you could geta little more granular with the perms.)
We use the above permissions on such OUsand have no problems. Our domain is Windows 2008 R2, but I don't think that has changedwith Windows 2012 AD.
    I hope that helps.
