I have a HP Pavilion dv4-1280us. It came with Windows Vista and HP MediaSmart. I loved it. Since I am not computer literate, I installed Windows 7. My HP MediaSmart is not compatible with it, including my TV tuner. How can I go back to Vista or can I? Help much appreciated

I may have to end up ordering the recovery disc too. I never know how complicated something could be. I had a good thing with HP MediaSmart. Especially my TV. Oh well. Good luck. I appreciate all of the suggestions and tech assistance.

HP MediaSmart Music Player Worked before Windows 7 Upgrade Upgraded to Windows 7 Now I get the message "music file not supported" when I try to play a song Any help would be wonderful!

DB:4.27:Hp Mediasmart Music File Not Compatible pc

    Hi Robert.Jones642,

Have you tried playing the songs in other application like Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center?
    If so, what’s the report?
To resolve the issue, download HP MediaSmart Music/Photo/Video Application Update for Windows 7 for your product type.

Here’s a link from where you can get this update.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/siteHome?lc=endlc=encc=uslang=ensoftwareitem=pv-76263-1os=4063

Hopefully, you shouldn’t face the file incompatibility issue after running this update.

In addition to that, to get the best performance, it is advisable to install the latest driver updates that are compatible with the Operating System. You can get the same from the link above.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi

I have an Dv6 1340eo where Win 7 have been installed from the beginning.

I have problem with HP MediaSmart DVD player.

There is no disc (DVD, etc) supported. All disk get the message Format not supported.

I have tried to install the program but it is not possible. When uninstallation is started the message " can not find/read initialization file".

I have upgraded BIOS to F42.

Please advise how to uninstall the player, and allow the dvd format.

    Jörgen

DB:3.66:Win 7, Can Not Use Hp Mediasmart Dvd Player pz

I use a Virtual Clone Dive to mount Blu-ray ISO files. The SPTD in the registry with others can create problems with Media Smart. Daemon Tools is another one that I prefer not to use because of this.

Run CCleaners registry as described before and download this rar. file of Media Smart DVD. Extract the file in my documents and then drag the "DVD" folder into "Media" on drive "C". This is where it should be installed.

    http://www.fileswap.com/share/423d06d79d810d80e464152d4f197458/DVD.rar.html

This is a forced install, if you will. After this, restart your laptop and open the DVD folder and look for the Media Smart icon and click on it.

This will open the software. Load a regular Blu-ray and choose to play it. It may play or you may get "format not supported" warning.

If this happens close the program and install the same version over top of the one I just gave you and restart.

    Here is that version again.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-83335-1lc=endlc=encc=us...

As before, save it to the desk top and install it from there. If it still does not play, then try Virtual Clone Drive. There is a long procedure to uninstall the SPTD files in the registry from the previous drive.

I am also not comfortable with the BIOS you are running, what ever that may be.

Hello,This is my first time on HP's support, though I have used the chat service with regard to some issues prior. I am hopeful that by posting on this forum I may finally be able to resolve some problems I have had with my laptop.Recently, I have upgraded my HP HDX X16-1160US from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium. I have upgraded the necessary drivers and BIOS, so I'm fairly sure all possible updates have been installed. However, I still have a number of problems for which I really hope to find a solutionMy first issue is that in order for my media keys (treble/bass, volume, play/pause, stop, forward/backward, mediasmart, mute, etc.) buttons to work I must have HP Mediasmart open first. Only once HP Mediasmart has opened will these keys function. To deal with this issue I have placed HP Mediasmart in the startup folder which is less than ideal. The program will start up whenever I turn on my computer and log in requiring me to close it afterward.I admit HP Mediasmart opening at startup may not be a big issue, as it requires just one click to hide. However, I never had this problem on Vista and would really like if there was a solution to avoid doing so.Thank you for any advice!

I installed the HP provided Windows 7 upgrade to my S5160F that came pre-installed with a blu-ray drive and SW.

Now that I'm on Win 7 the provided version of HP Mediasmart DVD will not play my Blu-Ray disks.

The error I get is 'unsupported format, please insert a movie'.

In speaking with HP support, the 'suggested solution' is to purchase the Cyberlink Power DVD SW.

I'm puzzled ... I purchased this system with the blu-ray DVD and SW preinstalled. I availed the free HP Upgrade to Windows 7 and followed the directions provided. Nowherein the instructions or forums have I found a warning, that installing the HP provided upgrade and supplimental drivers / updateswould remove my ability to play Blu-Ray discs. I have tried loading every single SP and update on the HP FTP site and nothing works ... they all seemed stripped of their Blu-ray playing capability.

Does anybody know of a solution to this ...

Just got off the phone with a 2nd level HP 'case manager'...

According to her, this is a known problem with certain HP systems and a fix is still being put together.

The ETA she gave was mid to late Jan.

While it's nice to hear that the problem is 'known' it's bothersome that HP would waste the time of so many of its customers and that I would have to get jerked around by the 1st level support team for so long. Definitely soured me on HP all-together. Not being naive though ... as every large company is like this. My money is going elsewhere for now ... no more HP recommendations to my friends as I no longer see them being 'better quality or better support' than anybody else. You'd seriously think there would be some kind of warning 'if you install the update, on xxx model, you're BD Player SW will no longer work'.

I'm having trouble installing HP Mediasmart DVD software on my Probook. I've downloaded several softpaqs with the DVD software and done the "trick" of extracting the installer and running setup.exe. Install starts OK but quits with an error: "this software can only be installed in authorized machine." But on the download page for every single one of the installers I got from HP's website there is no list of "authorized" models.

I looked up the error on some other HP threads, like this one

...but haven't been able to find a solution anywhere.

I tried downloading the Windows 7 version and even some older ones for Vista that were said to work. Other mediasmart programs work fine, I just can't get the DVD program to install. Is there a way to "fool" or "patch" the installer into believing that my laptop is authorized, whatever that means? It makes no sense that I wouldn't be able to use an HP DVD program since the computer does have a disc drive (which, I believe, even plays Blue Ray). MediaSmart did not come with the computer; I copied the SWSETUP folder from an older HP laptop to this one and ran the installers. MediaSmart SmartMenu works, as do MediaSmart Video, MediaSmart Music, MediaSmart Photo, and MediaSmart Movies TV. Yet for some reason MediaSmart DVD just continues to be stubborn. What can I do to get this to install?

When I choose "Open with.." another program like Paint or Windows Photo Viewer there's no problem. I tried to open just the program (both from the Start Menu and the MediaSmart button next to the Start Menu button) but it doesn't work either. From the MediaSmart button you can also "Use the webcam" or "Watch movies and TV", so I tried to open the webcam but that won't start either. Although when I clicked the "Watch movies.."-button the video program runs normally.

What is wrong? Should/can I reinstall the whole MediSmart package and if so, how do I do that?

DB:3.42:Mediasmart Photo And Webcam Not Loading On Hp Pavilion Dm1-2150so With Windows 7 1d

    Hi Kell,

I think you're correct in assuming the best way to solve this would be to reinstall the Two applications - you can do so as follows.

First, download the installers for both application using the links below and save them both to your Downloads folder.

    HP MediaSmart Photo.

    HP MediaSmart Webcam.

When the downloads have completed, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click on HP MediaSmart Photo and select Uninstall - when this has completed, do the same for HP MediaSmart Webcam.

    Restart the notebook.

When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder and double click the HP MediaSmart Photo installer to start the installation - when this has completed, do the same for HP MediaSmart Webcam.

When both installations have completed, restart the notebook again.

Yes you can try identifying the hardware infoinduvidually and download the drivers from its manufacturers website, It may or may not work.

The best way is to revert the OS to the factory shipped one, so there should no issues with the NB.

You can Order the Recovery CDs online or call HP.

DB:3.40:Problems With Windows Media Center And Hp Mediasmart Music ma

    Hi Robert.Jones642,
    Welcome to Microsoft Windows Forum.
This problem occurs because the Windows Media Center library database has become corrupted.
If the Media Center data store gets corrupted Windows Media Center will crash. So if there is a corrupted Media Center data store, you may follow the steps mentioned below to fix it:
1.Enable ‘Show hidden files, folders and drives option' .
2.This will allow to show the hidden ProgramData under %SYSTEMDRIVE%\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome.Double click on it to open.
Alternatively in Start Search box type in:-
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome and hit the Enter Key.
3.Double click on Microsoft folder and locate eHome.
4.Double click on eHome and locate mcepg data base (.db) file (eg.mcpeg2-0/mcepg1-5-0 etc).
5.Right click on mcpeg.db file and Delete it.
6.Restart the System and restart the Media Center as well.
    Hope this information is useful.

I will buy my first NAS in the next few days, looking for the best integration between Windows 7, Eva 8000, Playstation 3, and a MediaSmart x280n.

Thinking in the $200's price range my decision will be between:

    1) Netgear ReadyNAS Duo 2-Bay

    2) HP LX195 MediaSmart Server

    3) Netgear Stora 2-Bay 1 TB (1 x 1 TB) Network Attached Storage MS2110

According to the reviews I read, Netgear Stora will have no compatibility problems in my Home Network and by now my decision will be this device (I love what I read about the Netgear ReadyNAS Duo 2-Bay, specially the BitTorrent capability that I think is not present in Stora..!!)

What about Options 1) and 2)? Do you think will be compatible with my other devices and new Window 7 64 bit?

DB:3.36:Is Stora The Best Nas Now For Me? cm

For a straight home NAS the Duo is definitely the way to go. The main reason to pick the Stora over the Duo is if you (or friends and family) wanted to easily access your content remotely, which the Storas better designed for. (i.e. easier to remotely access without a lot of setup)

    Hello DP-K!

I have downloaded and installed CyberLink PowerDVD12. Once launched I get the following message: "This BluRay Disc requires a 3D BluRay player connected to a 3D display. Your Blu-Ray 3D does not seem to be connected to a 3D display."

Since, I repeat, I have replaced the hard disk, maybe the cause is the lack of drivers for the video card (AMD Catalyst Control Center - Radeon Graphics/ Intel HD Graphics 3000), I would not know what to say. Moreover, even the 3D glasses, although I have replaced the battery, they do not show signs of interaction with the video. In the past, with the old disk, they darkened a bit at the beginning of the film, now nothing happens, partly because the movie does not start. What do I do? Maybe I have to download other software from HP?This is a problem that I must solve, at stake is the trust I have with the technician who did the replacement of the hard disk.I thank you.

bought a new e9240f (1 week old the 25th, yesterday) it can't play dvd's of any kind using hp's mediasmart dvd appl, which is actually cyberlink's dvd suite deluxe preinstalled. have been thru chat support, phone support email tech support; all to no avail. have uninstalled all components, reinstalled same, ran the update on this computer's driver download page, googled til i'm blue in the face. finally, i emailed cyberlink with my info issue, they wrote back quote "mediasmart dvd suite deluxe hp" is NOT compatible with Windows 7!!! No small wonder the dvd drive wouldn't play dvd's, regular or blu ray! called tech support with this info, since the software came preinstalled bundled with the lg gh40l dvd writer installed on this tower. of course, hp denies any responsibility because they would never install software without having tested approved same. That's all fine dandy, but it doesn't make my dvd drive play movies using mediasmart dvd either.*** Windows media player media center play dvd's fine***, they're not linked to cyberlink! Hard to get that point across to tech support. have gone thru all the steps with them, even let them have remote access to my tower so they could muddle thru looking for clues why it doesn't play. have tried explaining again again that the software is obsolete, it's version 6 cyberlink is out with version7 for the suite version 8 for powerdvdalready!!! i just want HP to admit that cyberlink confirmed what i already know, it doesn't work but they won't do that because then they would have to apply a solution. they're answer to that was to do a system recovery to factory shipped i won't do that. nothing else is wrong with the computer.

so my ? is, is anyone else having issues with playing dvd's using powerdvd suite deluxe or mediasmart dvd?

    Hi Folks,

As I installed Windows 7 upgrade (Home Premium 64) on my HP Pavilion Elite e9140f, I was instructed to uninstall MediaSmart DVD, then reinstall a Windows 7 compatible version once Windows 7 was successfully installed. Now, I cannot find, nor will HP provide, a link to the necessary download to install Windows 7 compatible MediaSmart DVD.

HP Support advised the following: "We wish we could get back the MediaSmart for you. However, we can get it back only when we install the pre-installed operating system. We can install MediaSmart only by reinstalling the previous operating system." Even if that time consuming effort were to reinstall Media Smart DVD while rolling back onto Vista, I would again be instructed to uninstall MediaSmart DVD in preparation of the Windows 7 upgrade = Catch 22!

Consulting with CyberLink on this matter, thinking they could help because Google queries about this software pointed me in that direction, I was advised:"MediaSmart DVD is not a CyberLink product and we request you to contact HP again for the same since it's an OEM product from HP."

Has anyone discovered a means of installing Windows 7 compatible SmartMedia DVD?

Use this version, it does not matter where it's taken from, as long as it's for an HP machine. Save it to the desk top and install it from there.

Disconnect from the internet by turning your modem off, disable Windows Firewall and your virus software before you install it.

For the most part upgrades rather then a clean install cause all sorts of problems with Media Smart DVD.

DB:3.29:Mediasmart Dvd Doesn't Work After Win 7 Retail Upgrade. This Is Funny, Sort Of. m3

I spoke to HP support , well actually chatted with them about this and they are no help. Ok here's the short verison, I have a DV7 notebook that came with Vista 64 purchased pre June 09 and I wanted to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium so I purchased the upgrade right from Microsoft because I'm not entitled to a free upgrade. I upgraded and it took me about 2 hours to find and reinstall the drivers, software and other stuff of mine. Upgrade doesn't preserve everything beware. I got everything to work except Mediasmart and my Blue Ray/DVD drive.

Here's the problem: No Mediasmart software works, my cyberlink DVD suite disappeared, and HP is no help what so ever in this case. They told me to reinstall DVD Play and that a retail version upgrade will not work. They told me to get the HP kit. Here's the funny part. They won't give it to me for free and can't sell it to me. HUH? So I told them i don't have any problems except the Mediasmart not working. Again they told me to use their kit that they can't give or sell to me. again, huh?

So why is it that Mediasmart works 100% fine with Vista64 but doesn't work at all with Win7? Isn't it the same platform and uses the same drivers?

HP wouldn't tell me where to get the Mediasmart software becauseI altered my notebook with non HP OS and told me they can't help me anymore with support.

If Cyberlink provides the Mediasmart and Quickplay software bundled with the BR player why can't I find a download anywhere? WhenI put my support info in the HP drivers section and select Window 7 it has a version of drivers to download but they will not work on my notebook. What is so different with a non HP upgrade?

    any help is appreciated.

    thanks

DB:3.29:Mediasmart Dvd Doesn't Work After Win 7 Retail Upgrade. This Is Funny, Sort Of. m3

I am just guessing here... It does seem unreasonable that you cannot buy the Windows 7 upgrade from HP. You bought an HP computer and if that model can handle Windows 7 you would think that you could buy the upgrade kit. However, if all of the add-ons and drivers and hardwareworking onyour PC's modelfor Vista will not workafter usingHP's Windows 7 kit, perhaps that is the reason they do not wish to sell you the Windows 7 upgrade kit.If that is the case, thatmight increase their support issues and leave you unhappy if they sold you the upgrade kit. But they left you unhappy regardless.

I can say from firsthand experience that upgrading Windows on an HP PC with an Windows upgrade not from HP can give you headaches... hours searching for drivers, app downloads, etc.

However, in reading some messages to yours and related posts, a few people have made that upgrade successfully. Let's just hope that if you couldhave an HP upgrade kit that it would have restored everything seamlessly.

I hope thatothers postreplies that will be helpful for you. One thing that I have found useful is that sometimes a BIOS upgrade flash helps regain or provide some functionality. Be careful to not lose power during a BIOS flash, have an UPS (uninterruptible power supply)connected to your PC when you update your BIOS. Follow all advice carefully for safe BIOS flashes and take all suggested precautions if you do flash your BIOS.

    Take care.

I bought this ultra-portable for Christmas but the MediaSmart DVD doesn't work right. I've called Support but upgrading the software has not resolved the problem of the application crashing (goes to bluescreen, not good). Third support calls suggested that the MediaSmart software may not be compatible with the software on the DVD. Why is that?

    Media Player works fine.

Can someone confirm that MediaSmart DVD on Windows 7 doesn't work with on battery power with some DVDs?

DB:3.23:Hp Touchsmart Tx2z Tablet -- Installing Mediasmart Software Under Windows 7 Ultimate 18

I have performed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate edition on my Tx2z Tablet PC. Everything works without a hitch once all drivers from the HP website have been installed, including a firmware update for the N-Trig touch screen as part of the driver installation.

The MediaSmart software compatible with Windows 7 is likewise posted on the selfsame web-page, though I have not succeeded in installing it on the machine. Within the descriptions of individual software components, "Compatibility" indicates all editions of Windows 7. "System requirements" directly beneath states "no additional prerequisites" -- i.e. in addition to a system running Windows 7 (it is to be assumed). No variation in the order of installation of individual programs, nor the use of Windows 7 compatibility features produces a functioning SmartMedia suite as end result. Following boot-up, a dialog is displayed indicating that the MediaSmart Menu has stopped functioning and offering to "search for a solution" or shut down the program.

(The "Search for a Solution Online" option has interestingly, from the appearance of Windows Vista to the present, never produced in my presence either a solution or an explanation of the failure to do so. I can only assume this is a "creative rewording" of the old message asking the user to forward bug-related information to Microsoft for internal use or forwarding to third-party software providers -- a harmless affair. The direct request, as I well recall, was frequently either declined by users or deactivated altogether, the reason given always being some form of paranoia occasioned by Microsoft's notoriously dishonest business practices. I suppose there is a bit of irony here.)

DB:3.23:I Have Windows 7 I Cannot Get A Blu Ray Dis To Play With Hp Mediasmart Dvd. sm

    Hi,

As you're using HP MediaSmart DVD to play Blu ray discs, I'd suggest trying the following.

HP now provides a version of Cyberlinks PowerDVD 10 which seems to be a better solution. Download the latest installer for this on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56904.exe

When the download has completed, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP MediaSmart DVD and select Uninstall - when this process has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer for PowerDVD 10 to start the installation. When this has completed, see if your Blu ray discs will now play OK.

Thank you for posting. Both of these problems are going to be driver related.
Especially the “MediaSmart” buttons on your keyboard. I would suggest contacting HP to see when they anticipate having Windows 7 compatible drivers available for your hardware.
In the mean time, you can try using the Vista drivers. In some cases customers have had success using XP drivers for older hardware devices.

If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip. Then right click the installer you download, select 7-Zip, select extract files and then click Ok. Open the newly extracted folder, open src and scroll down until you see the setup application ( 6th from the bottom with a size of 310Kb ). When the installation has completed, restart the notebook and see if you can now play your Blu ray discs.

    Hi,

I would really like some assistance please. I purchased an HP Pavillion dv6 in August 2009. Seeing that it was a Vista, I've upgraded it to a Windows 7. However, it's not an HP Windows 7. The laptop came with a remote and HP features such as Mediasmart. Now that I've upgraded to the regular Windows 7, my remote doesn't work anymore and I no longer have Mediasmart (because it's not HP any longer).

Now here's my question. How can I fix this problem? I would like to take it back and upgrade the laptop to an HP Windows 7 but do I need to do this if it's already a Windows 7? I really want the remote to work again and I also want the Mediasmart back seeing that I can't use the Webcam without Windows Live Messenger or Skype.

does MediaSmart not support Quicktime .mov files?

I just got an HP computer with windows 7 and want to open my videos to edit them.

I couldn't find a simple "open file" or "load video" button so I went to Settings

in MediaSmart Video Settings the only thing I could change was "Select Folders" so I did that and added my video folder (containing all my .mov files from my digital camera)

I clicked save (and whenever I go back to Settings and Select Folders I see the folder I added) but I cannot find that folder anywhere in MediaSmart thus I can't load my videos... just that dang wildlife one!

It's not in Folders, All Videos, and when I do a search it only lets me search from july 13th 2009 to july 13th 2009 (I guess because it only sees that wildlife sample .wmv)

    This is very frustrating!

I searched everywhere online and found a demo:http://hubpages.com/hub/HP-MediaSmart-Software

Having done this to my dv8 I can say for certain that you can uninstall the quick launch button software. IT HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HOT KEYS ABOVE THE KEY BOARD. Use CCleaner to uninstall the quick launch software then run its registry cleaner and restart, run the registry cleaner again to make sure there is nothing else. Repeat this as many times as necessary until it finds nothing. Do not use any other registry cleaner.

Also use CCleaner to uninstall the Media Smart DVD and WebCam if they are not the ones that I gave you.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ After that here is the software from my dv8 for the tone control :

http://j.imagehost.org/download/0934/HPToneControl It is in a rar file so you will have to extract it to the desk top to install it.

If you saved you SwSetup folder in drive "C", that is where it is and it's where I got it from. (install the 64 bit version_the 32 bit won't install anyway)

Install your IDT High definition Audio for your mute light.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-85714-1lc=endlc=encc=us...

Here is for your eject button.

    http://h.imagehost.org/download/0221/hp

It is in the Media Smart Smart Menu. Ounce extracted find the "SRC" folder and install the 64 bit version.

But before you install the one I just gave you install this one first for your model, then uninstall it using Windows to uninstall it, not CCleaner (don't use the registry cleaner here)

Then after you uninstall the one for your model install the one I gave you in the rar file.

Here is the one for your model :

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-75909-1lc=endlc=encc=us...

You will have to install at least one Media Smart program to interact with the menu to get it all to work. I usually install the DVD and WebCam

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-83335-1lc=endlc=encc=us...

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-85474-1lc=endlc=encc=us...

The thing about installing a retail version is it became so temperamental with the Bluetooth software and the annoying mute light that I reinstalled the HP version of W7 amd removed all the bloat ware. Things seem to function better.

IfI had to do it again I could probably get things to work, but everything is running good, so I am going to leave it alone.

Don't download the HP Tone Control from the HP web site, it is corrupted, use the one I gave you.

If you use the one from the site you will get this messed OSD

HP seems totally oblivious to this problem. It's been like this from day one !!

I shouldmention when ever you install or uninstall any of the above, you must restart your laptop.

When you installed the retail version, how did you install it ? Did you leave the recovery partition behind ? Did you format the hard drive and/or create a partition to install W7 on ?

I found the best way to install W7 is to delete the entire hard drive of everything and create "Unallocated Space" W7 will create it's own two partitions. Formatting the drive afterward just creates problems.

If none of this works, in all honesty it's easier to install the HP version of W7 and get rid of the bloat ware.

If you want to go that route, post a screen shot of what is in "Programs and Features" and I will tell you exactly what can be removed.

With my solid state drive my dv8 boots up in 42 seconds and the overall performance is very fast as well.

I just wanted to find out if others have problems with the video section within the mediasmart software version 3.1.2.3601? Mediasmart will not load my video or folders into the editing window. No matter what I do the program only see what was loaded as a sample. I can not load any of my personalsaved video. It's like it's rejecting it's job and that to control, editvideo.I've tried todownload updates tothe latest version for both theAdvisor and Mediasmart. Nothing seems to work how can I fix this problem?. I think that the quality of service from HP has declined dramatically over the years. I think that is do to the fact that most if not all of the customer service and technical service departments are now located out of the US. and not American employee's.

I noticed that HP appears to have eliminated from its newer dv7 laptops (at least mine that hasWindows 7 Home Edition 64 bit) its QuickPlay feature, at least the QuickPlay button above the top of the keyboard. One advantage of QuickPlay is that you could go directly to it without booting to Windows. I suppose almost all, if not all,the functionality of HP QuickPlay is in HP MediaSmart. MediaSmartmay havemore features than QuickPlay had, although there only a few I would be using regardless of either application.

Hi, I am having problems with my HP MediaSmart DVD software. I have played blu rays using it before but I recently bought new blu rays and it won'y play thesedisks.

I went through a maze of things in the support forums involving updating, uninstalling, and reinstalling to no avail. I eventually uninstalled HP MediaSmart DVD and installed CyberLink Power DVD hoping that would work only to find myself backto my origional problem..it will *not* play the blu ray disks I just bought but *will* play the others.

    Hello,

It will play regular DVD's fine and it will also play some blu rays too but I've only had problems with the two newest blu ray disks. As far as my laser goes, I don't see any obvious debris on it or any physical flaws.

As an additional note, when I place the blu rays in the drive, my computer knows there's a disc in the drive because it brings up the default player and tries to auto play like it normally does but thats when tells me it can't be played.

    Hi all,

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop, with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system.

Recently, Skype wasn't detecting my HP webcam (which is built-in the laptop) and said that I "needed to close any programs using my webcam"(which was none).

When I checked the device manager, there was no webcam listed there. I then opened the 'Add or Remove Programs' page from the Control Panel and saw thaT 'HP MediaSmart Webcam' was not listed there either. So I downloaded the HP MediaSmart Webcam software from the internet, and it showed that it was installing, but I don'know what happened after that. I then tried deleting all the HP MediaSmart components and re-installing them. Each got re-installed, but now none of them show up on the Add or Remove Programs page.

Bottom line is, now the shortcut on my taskbar for MediaSmart does not open and I hae no idea what to do. Please help me!

DB:3.10:Hp Mediasmart Software Not Opening 1x

The 2 articles did not help. The problem is that the HP MediaSmart isn't showing up on my Start menu.

And when I clicked on the SmartMenu option, this is what happens:

(I clicked on Yes to delete the shortcut for the SmartMenu, so I screenshot-ed the SmartMusic one)

Even when I try to re-install the whole MediaSmart package with its different components, I get the same result. The command prompt opens up and it shows that it is installing, and then quits when it is done. But it still does not appear in the Add/Remove Programs page or the Start menu.

    Hello

I wonder if anyone can assist re HP Webcam problems. The problem goes back awhile and I have sort of fixed it but not to my satisfaction. By the way I have just visited the new support pages and I do not like them one bit. Anyhow for some reason my HP MediaSmart webcam stopped working. I kept getting the message something about incompatibility. This was completely out of the blue. I tried a few things. I am not very computer savvy. In the end I uninstalled the webcam and used the ‘recovery manager’ to reinstall the HP MediaSmart webcam. Then I had big problems find a driver that would work. (There does not appear to be the same selection of drivers available now has there was when I had a go at fixing the problem originally). The suggested driver at the present time is sp51029exe. I could not get the webcam to work with that driver. I tried everything. It was really frustrating. Eventually I came across a driver for a MediaSmart Webcam Vista sp4222.exe and that worked and is still working, but I cannot update the webcam. During my search of the internet I found YouCam for HP. I downloaded it and got it to work but I could not attach it to the MediaSmart Menu. What I would like to do is install the correct MediaSmart Webcam or YouCam with it appearing on the MediaSmart Menu.

I hope the above makes some sense, as I have stated above I am not computer savvy.

    Hi Uni

Thank you for your reply and the link. I have actully accessed that link previously with no luck. I am not very computer literate but it seems to me that when I bought my NEWlaptop it was one that had been upgraded from Vista to windows 7, but PC World forgot to update the mediasmart webcam. So I am stuck with it I suppose. I could download YouCam but I cannot get it to appear on the MediaSmart menu. I should be grateful my laptop works. Thereare people with much more serious problems than the one I have although when I first gott the message that the webcam was incompatable, not sure why that happened after so long, it took me many hours before I was able to at least getit working using the vista driver.

    Kind regards

When I was preparing to upgrademy HP Pavilion p6110t PC (64 bit)from Vista to Windows 7 the Upgrade Advisor did not have compatibility information about these two programs (HP MediaSmart DVD HP MediaSmart Music/Photo/Video). So, I have uninstalled them and tried to reinstall them from the software and drivers page, to no avail. I keep gettingan errormessage asking me if this is the right pathwhen trying to install.

I was told HP was aware of this problem and was working on a solution, and I was curious if there is a fix.

    DB:3.07:Hp Mediasmart p7

I think actually figured out a fix for this today.

    1. Type "CMD" (with out the quotes) into the Start Search box and then Right Click on CMD listed under programs. Chose "Run as Administrator." Click continue/allow/yes.

    2. Type the following into the Command Prompt box (again without the quotes), "regsvr32.exe vbscript.dll" press Enter. It should say that it succeeded. Then type in, "regsvr32.exe jscript.dll" press Enter. Again, it should say that it succeeded.

    3. Reboot the computer.

    4. Right click on the Installer (SP45691) after it is downloaded and click "Run as Administrator." Click continue/allow/yes.

    5. Allow the program to install. It will give very little indication that it is installing but it will take up to 10 minutes total to install. After the installer disappears from the task bar, it is completed. If you aren't sure if it is done, leave your computer alone for about 20 minutes.

    6. Reboot the computer again.

Let me know if it works for anyone else - it worked for me.

*You will need to Save the MediaSmart MVP file to your computer to do this properly. You can download the file by clicking the blue download button on the following page.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-77465-1lc=endlc=encc=us...

*By the way, it doesn't matter which page you download the MediaSmart MVP from. It is the same SoftPack (SP45691).

*Also, I do not know if this will work for the MediaSmart DVD program. I only tested it for the MediaSmart MVP program.

I tried to change compatibility on Windows Vista but nothing happened. I tried to download everything ... Please help.

DB:3.06:Hp Mediasmart Error After Upgrading To Windows 7 pf

I recently upgraded my HP IQ816 from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium.I installed all Windows 7 software updates from HP's website. Everything works great except the HP MediaSmart application.HP Updaterepeatedly notifies me thatan "HP MediaSmart DVD Application Update" for Windows 7 is required. When I attempt to install the update, I receive the following error message: "Error!! The product defination file lost." Attempts to update this softwarefrom directly within the MediaSmart application results in the same error. I've tried uninstalling MediaSmart altogether. The same error appears and the product will not uninstall.Downloading and installing the update directly fromCyberlink returns the same error. HP refuses to help since I changed the OS that shipped with their machine and I've been unable to find a solution anywhere else on the internet. Many thanks in advance for thesuggestions and help!

Jim T. - Could the reason that you never received the error that I reported be that you were wiser than me and uninstalled the HP MediaSmart software in Vista before upgrading to Windows 7? Just curious, since it appears that many users of HP PCs like me were simply following the Vista to Windows 7 upgrade directions that are posted on HP's site which do not call for the unistallation of MediaSmartbefore the upgrade begins. Here's hoping that a solution is discovered soon.
