\'Novell\' is a company. Are you talking about NetWare? If so check the

c:\\autoexec.bat to see if it is making the call to server.exe (from

memory). If you are able to get to the DOS prompt before NetWare then

that\'s the only step left really.

    Good luck.

client and loading the desktop straight away, hence not logging onto the

    Novell Server?

    DB:2.62:Thread: Netware Client dk

It seems the workstation is not detecting NetWare services upon bootup.

Is the server located in the same IP subnet as the client ? The reason

I ask is that SLP is the protocol that brings up the Novell Client upon

bootup. SLP relies on multicasting and if the server and client are in

different IP subnets, multicasting is usually blocked.

P.S. ME is not the ideal OS for Networking. I suggest upgrading to XP.

    Folks,

    I have an intermittent problem (the worse kind). Every second or third time the server is restarted novell-named does not start with the following message in the system log;

error: novell-named failed to start, check if novell-xregd is running!

    I have found the function that is generating this message in /etc/init.d/novell-named, it is the following section;

    function start_check

    {

    /etc/init.d/novell-xregd status /dev/null 21

    if [ $? -ne 0 ] ; then

    echo error: novell-named failed to start, check if novell-xregd is running!;

echo error: novell-named failed to start, check if novell-xregd is running! /var/log/messages

    /etc/init.d/micasad status /dev/null 21

    if [ $? -ne 0 ] ; then

    echo warning: micasad is not running, loading novell-named with credentials from file;

echo warning: micasad is not running, loading novell-named with credentials from file /var/log/messages

    #rc_failed 1

    #rc_status -v

    #rc_exit

    fi

    }

I\'m not a linux whiz, so I\'m kind of at a loss as to what is going on. The fact that named will start the majority of the time is an additional puzzle. My guess is that it is a timing thing in the startup sequence, but I don\'t know how to control that (put a pause in before novell-named is started) or even if that is a realistic possibility for a solution.

Any assistance from better minds than mine would be greatly appreciated!

    DB:2.46:Thread: Novell-Named Not Starting mm

    Craig,

that runlevel order S15 and S16 seems to be okay as xregd is started before named.

The K... scripts are started when the system goes down or when you change to a different runlevel and some services need to be stopped for that new runlevel.

So as xregd should be started before named it might be a timing issue or something.

Do you know when this happened the last time that you can check /var/log/messages to see if there are xregd errors in indicating that xregd had problems to start and therefor named failed as well ?

Here goes. Netware oes 6.5 sp5, iPrint, Zen 7.0.1, iManager, and a few other services.

I rebooted my perfectly working server last night and everything seemed to come up. I rebooted because I installed Zen 7.0.1 import and removal services. Usually a good idea after installing new stuff.

This morning, I came in and nobody can print. Apache is not loading. I get

Okay, ssl doesn\'t work. No biggie. I did a pkidiag and sdidiag and found no errors. Still the server does not come up.

    where to next?

The zenworks service: novell-zenworks-xplatzmd is beating Apache when loading, and then Apache never loads. The only way to get Apache to load is to then kill the novell-zenworks-xplatzmd service and start Apache, then restart the novell-zenworks-xplatzmd service. This is on a SLES 10 OES2 Server with ZCM 10.3.

    Thanks

DB:2.36:Thread: Apache And Zen Service Conflict 88

This should work, but you may want to make sure that Apache and OES2 are

not sharing any of the same ports used by ZCM.

I know if you install ZCM after OES, it will detect in use ports and

prompt you to change them. However, its possible to install some other

components after ZCM that share the same ports, which definitely impact

functionality but I have not heard in regards to loading.

Even I am also not in favour of doing both things simultaneously. If you get into problems, it would be very difficult to debug. Instead, install 7.2 on the new server with same hostname as the first one, stop Networker Services and copy the C:\Program Files\Legato folder to the new machine. Why to spend so much time on bootstrap recovery?Personally, I would let this run for a couple fo days with same version on the new server and then only upgrade to the next release.

If you have the DVD that came with your MacBook you coud insert it and restart while holding down the option key. This should give yo a choice of booting from the internal disk or the DVD. Choose the DVD and see if that works. This will give you access to Apple Hardware Test.more info here: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/aht.html

My appologies if you did get offended!!

yes i should have gone through the rules of engagement just got too carried away with my query and straight away posted it..

These are the steps i performed

STEP1: I ran through the installation to install one more SAP instance and noticed my swap size was very low in the last compatibility check performed by the installer so i increased it (usaly i ignore this as its not certified for 2003 (SP 2) )

    STEP2: Logged into the database

    Recovery-Volumes-Reintegrate

(Thought if its a prob with database lets get it to previous state well a shot in the dark )

    STEP3: Restarted the instance

    volla started to work !!!

No clue what got it working this time but i did restart the instance many times before ...

    Hello:

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for nldap or not? If so

I just updated my Groupwise 6.5SP3 server from NW6.0SP4 to NW6.0SP5 and

iManager and NRM are not working at all and i am thinking it might be

    Peter Jam,

    Thanks anders.

clear Text, which port is that? 25?

I\'ll probably wait until after hours to do a restart. gotta get the

    mail through!

No 389. Let me try to be a bit more elaborate.

LDAP is a protocol to query a directory. The normal way to provide that

is through NLDAP.NLM and it listens on 389 or 636 (secure). For

various, historical reasons, GWIA has a very rudimentary LDAP provider,

that only exposes the GW address book. Normally you would turn that

off. If it is on and GWIA is loaded, then GWIA will listen for LDAP

requests on 389, thus when NLDAP loads it will notice that 389 is

    already taken.

    Hi all,

I work at a school that uses Netware 6 servers with Windows XP SP2

clients using the 4.91 Novell client.

The students are using Novell sendmessage to send messages to eachother,

server, so I don\'t have to mess with each client?

    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

DB:2.33:Thread: Block Novell Send Message? m8

    eric,

Perhaps a brute force approach? Can you change the name of send.exe?

That still leaves the send functionality buit into the red N, which

can be disabled, and any other third party send utilities.

Most reliable method is to turn it off at the client, and not allow

users access to that registry key.

Thx for the follow up, great it works for you. Problem is that if you just do a verify and not specify a DB the auditdatabase tables, triggers etc are tested against the zendatabase resulting in the issues you saw reported.

    Happy Christmas

    Hi folks,

I was updating a NW65SP6 machine to SP7 through NRM last night and when

the file copy status got to 57%, it stopped. It\'s been like that for

The last file on the copy screen is c:\
    wserver\\cknwboot.nlm.

The server.exe version is the same as others that have got the SP, and

I picked a random bunch of nlms in sys:system and they match the ones

on the servers with the SP. Anyone got an opinion on this ? I know

I\'m going to have to bounce it to find out, but the box is in a

different city and I\'m wondering if I\'ll be dealing with a down server

upgrade or just reapplying the SP, or has anyone watched one of these

so close that they know the last file(s) to get updated is/are the ones

listed above. Is it possible that this is just the nwconfig screen that

is stuck ? Thanks in advance for any replies, will check back tomorrow.

Still many pieces of the server will not be updated to SP7 yet, so I

DB:2.31:Boot Up Problems - Nothing On Screen! 78

My 6 month old MBP with the latest firmware update suddenly stopped botting today. I placed it in sleep and then tried to wake it a few hours later. The battery was not flat. The light by the releae button comes on and I hear the DVD drive spin up but nothing comes up on the display.

I have tried the support pages here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303234 but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas as I really don't want to send it back as I have lots on my drive that I cannot now backup.

DB:2.31:Boot Up Problems - Nothing On Screen! 78

The 3.5" caddy won't work on MacBook Pro hard drives since they are designed only for desktop hard drives.

Repair times vary anywhere from 10 days to a month based on reports on this board. I for one am insistant that the repair take no longer than three weeks before I ask for a replacement computer.

As for erasing the drive, it may be part of standard procedure to test whether or not there really is a hardware issue with your machine if they can't isolate it any other way. I don't know if it is, but some have found their drives erased.

Work with your service technician locally to see how the drive can be removed without voiding the warranty.

is there a setting on the BIOS for it? Or do I need to install the driver on the guess botting the guess with the windows 2000 boot disk and press f6? Or is there something in the configuration file of the vm?

DB:2.31:Vm Does Not Start After I Installed Anew Fiber Channel Card sz

My best guess is that you have not labeled your VMFS (a friendly name). When you created the VM, the VM is configured with a virtual disk pointing to a physical path (like vmhba0:0:5:1).

When you added your Fibre Channel card the physical paths changed and now the disk is on vmhba1:0:5:1.

Edit you .vmx file and correct this, and to prevent this in the future, label you VMFSs with friendly names and use them when creating the VM.

I have installed a sata-disk with a promise SATA 150 TX-4 controller. At bios startup, the controller installs, but then when the system tries to boot (from a different disk and different controller - promise ULTRA 100 IDE), it just says loading bootstrap and then hangs. When I power off the SATA-Drive, the controller does not installs at bios startup (because the disk was the only one and it does not install without a disk) and then everything starts normal.

    Hi all,

I am running into a problem where there is conflicts in the class loading of javax.xml.* classes when running with JDK 1.4.2. (1.3.1 doesn't have this problem as those classes are not part of JDK before 1.4.2).

We have jaxp.jar in the path looked up by our application class loader, and we are seeing classes are loaded twice (once by App CL and once by bootstrap CL).

I saw somewhere that there is a flag that can be specified to prevent boostrap CL from loading certain classes, does anyone know the details?

    Thanks

Hello, I am primarily a windows systems administrator but recently took a job at a company who run 2x Novell Netware servers. One hosts the companies data also. I have very little knowledge of novell. It has been running fine for months, when today nobody could login. Checking server1 it was off.

I switched it back on and it was hanging at loading bootstrap. I rebooted the server and the same happened. I created a DOS 6 disk and booted into DOS. I ran c:\
wserver\\server.exe and Netware starts, however it never completes to a point whereby I can see the Novell button. Never get a ping response from it either.

    Can anyone assist with this?

Switch to the logger screen and post the error seen there. But in

general, this means your DOS partition C:\\ is either corrupt, or some

crucial files there have somehow managed to vanish. There could be a

I have a problem very similar to that described by Ken McLeod a few days

    ago.

Server is NW65SP2. In the last few days, the Apache server has been

refusing to start up; no errors on the console or logger, just no Apache.

After much digging, it\'s being caused by something on the SSL setup. If

I # out the SecureListen lines, the server comes up fine.

There\'s definitely nothing listening on 443; I\'ve tried changing ports

just in case there was, but believe me there\'s not. The certificate

appears fine - I tried generating another one just in case, but no luck.

Other certs on other servers (but under the same CA) work fine.

PKIDIAG checks out fine. Everything else on the server is running great.

The only thing that\'s changed was the application of nwlib6a.exe (newer

libc.nlm etc). And if I do a RESTART SAS, I get the following on the logger:

You can try the DMXzone Bootstrap extension for Dreamweaver. It has a great integration in design view and you can create responsive layouts pretty easy. Oh, yes it's also free of charge, all you need to do is download and install it in DW.

We are migrating our application from JBoss AS5.1 to AS 7.1. my application consist of multiple(~100) sar files, I need a a centralized Bootstrap loader for loading the spring application context bundled in all the sar files. This was possible on AS5.1 with single Bootstrap class(my.prj.SpringBootstrapBean) bundled with my-core-app.jar and copied in to JBoss lib directory, all the sar files creates a mbean with this class in jboss-service.xml.

    my-core-app.jar - my.prj.SpringBootstrapBean extends ServiceMBeanSupport

DB:2.29:Limit On Css File Size? cx

Is there a limit on the maximum size of a css file?

I am currently loading bootstrap.css and then my own override css file. If I load bootstrap first my css override file doesn't seem to load. If I load my override first it is fine.

Bootstrap is about 124k I think. So I was wondering if there was a limit on the size of the css file APEX creates. Which implies that even when I do successfully load my css (by loading first) I am losing part of bootstrap.

This was APEX 4.0. Uploading the files as Shared Component CSS Files.

DB:2.29:Limit On Css File Size? cx

Yes, those are blobs. The only truly static files are those in a DAD path similar to /i/ for images (which includes CSS, JS, etc)

I'd be inclined to tell you that your problem is due to how your page(s) are referencing the CSS files in the resulting HTML.. view-source on the page html and see how they get rendered.. My bet is that your bootstrap is indeed the last to be loaded (top-bottom). You also might want to invest some time using Firefox with FireBug (or similar) to get a better idea of how things are being interpreted.

When I try to start Novell ZENworks Server I get the following error:

The Novell ZENworks Server service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.

Without this service running I`m unable to view the Zenworks Control Center.

DB:2.29:Thread: Server Service Has Stopped Working km

When you installed ZCM, did you install with Sybase or SQL database?

This is an SQL query. So you would need access to the SQL Server Studio to open the query analyser and run that query in it.

Sybase, I dont know how to get the info, but I think there\'s a GUI type of software that should permit you to do the same kind of query.

    For the novell-zenworks-configure -c Start

    1. open DOS box

    2. if your setup is ok, you just can type the command directly in there, hit enter and you will get a menu. If you do get the menu, you\'ll be able to stop/start the zen services.

Has anything changed since the last time it worked?

PRU update, changed domain name, password...server name...user name... anything?

    Was the server restarted?

Did you start/stop the ZENworks Server service in the services.msc?

It seemed everything went fine with the configuration part but when I try to start the services novell-named and dhcpd it did\'nt work and in /var/log/messages I found this:

If I reenter the YaST OES install and Configuration menu It says that I have to configure both services, Novell DNS Services requires additional configuration information before continuing or disable the configuration.

Make sure the micasad daemon is running. I can\'t remember, but it may also require that novell-xregd is also running (named at least requires it).

\'CASAcli -l\' Will show the credentials (if setup to store them in casa) for services that have been configured. Check first to see if the credentials are there. If not, create them manually. If so, you may want to make sure that they are correct, by resetting them. Both of these can be accomplished reviewing the help page for CASAcli (CASAcli -h):

    Examples

CASAcli -s -n MyCredential (sets the key and value of the named credential)

CASAcli -g -n MyCredential (gets and displays the keys and values of the named credential)

CASAcli -d -n MyCredential (delete all keys and values of the named credential)

    KEYVALUE=cn=admin,o=novell CASAcli -s -n MyCredential -k CN

    KEYVALUE=password CASAcli -s -n MyCredential -k Password

The last two lines above will allow you to change/set the user and password for the given credential. The default cred name for named is \'dns-ldap\'

    Hi,

Recently my notebook stopped botting and I discovered that I lost the warranty card. I have HP Envy 6-1154er, Warranty: 1y1y0y; Serial: [edited Serial Number by Moderator]; Product: C6F57EA#ACB.

DB:2.28:I Lost The Warranty Card From The Laptop a8

    Hi 4xysmile,

If you purchased your notebook in June 2013 the warranty will be 1 year from your date of purchase normally. The notebook is put on the shelf for resale with13 mos. from date of manufacture, allowing for 1 month of shelf life. If you purchase the product after that 1 month, you will need to register your notebook from your date of purchase, to have the warranty updated from your date of purchase . HP does not know your exact date of purchase, until you have registered your product. If you do not register it, HP can not update it, and the standard warranty will show.

HP registration. The service is temporarily unavailable this morning, but should be back up later.

You can also contact HP support and ask them to assist you with getting the warranty updated from your date of purchase.

    Hi all,

The students are using Novell sendmessage to send messages to eachother,

and this is to be stopped. Is there some way I can stop it at the

server, so I don\'t have to mess with each client?

    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

DB:2.28:Thread: Block Novell Send Message? cm

It would be up to you on how best to make the change -' + '- you could let

the change be done every time so if you have new changes, you don\'t

have to undo the old permanent settings first. On the other hand, if

you unfreeze, make change, and refreeze, you then reduce the number of

    changes upon each login.

novell.support.zenworks.desktops.4x.app-launcher may be a good place to

    start.

After upgrading a machine to Windows XP SP2, SRVLOC.SYS can experience

login failures as a result of SRVLOC.SYS failing to load due to the

Windows upgrade removing the NetWare Services registry entry.

Applying this .INF to a 4.91 SP4 machine, either before or after the

machine is actually in the failing state, will re-configure the Novell

Client driver load order such that the NetWare Services group is no

longer used, and therefore its no longer important whether it exists

    Thanks.

I think a relevant question would be: Why do you care? Is there more to your query than meets the eye?Probably. In the context of application servers it is actually quite useful to know how classes are managed; if you wouldn't know how for example Apache Tomcat uses classloaders to isolate server resources from application resources, you could be making all the wrong assumptions. tomcat in that respect is easy, application servers tend to have even more complex classloader hierarchies to be able to share classpath resources between applications etc. etc.

I am trying to get my Novell Client 2 to automatically show the logon screen in the Windows 7 boot up.

Windows 7 just boots right past the typical Novell logon dialog and the only way to log onto the network is to go to the red N, right click and logon. In XP, the Novell logon paused the boot process, I entered my network and windows passwords (sync\'d) and then Windows finished booting.

If I run the a standard install of OO-NE, the install is 355MB but the MSI install from the network is 1.35Gb. On some of our slower stations, that install can take nearly an hour, not really an acceptable option.

I have been playing with Orca trying to figure out how to edit the MSI to only install en-US but I have not been successful yet.
