    Hi,

    I am facing the following issue when trying to retrieve the data from a view.If i specify literals inside the in clause (example id's inside in clause) it's working fine,but when i try to use the subquery inside in clause to retrieve the id's from the base table it's taking longer time and no results are observed.I am trying to give the subquery inside in clause due to the in clause cannot handle literals(id's) more than 1000.
    Any suggestions on this will help me a lot for this.

    Any suggestions on this will help me a lot for this.I often do a simple approach. If I need an IN list with more then 1000 values, then simply use two more more in lists and the OR operator.

    Example: instead of
    select * from emp
    where id in
    ( 1,
    2,
    3,
    ...
    1000, /* problem point */
    1001,
    ....
    2000, /* problem point */
    2001,
    ...
    )I write the statement like this:

    select * from emp
    where (id in /* see the addition starting parenthesis! */
    ( 1,
    2,
    3,
    ...
    999)
    OR id in /* start of the second list */
    (1000,
    1001,
    ....
    1999)
    OR id in /* start of the next list */
    (2000,
    2001,
    ...
    )
    ) /* remember to add the closing parenthesis */Edited by: Sven W. on Jun 28, 2011 4:39 PM - formatting

    Using JDev 11.1.2.1.0.

    I'm attempting to use NamedViewCriteria more and more because, well ... I keep reading it's the way to go. But I'm encountering an aggravating problem. I can't get them to work when I drag and drop as a filtered table onto a page. They work when I apply them in a managed bean, but simply dragging and dropping will not trigger the NamedViewCriteria to display the filtered items correctly.

    Creating a where clause manually works fine.

    Manual Where Clause drag and drop ViewObject from data control
    (:pBpKey is null or upper(BP_KEY) like '%' || upper(:pBpKey) || '%') AND CinderBusinessPartners.BP_TYPE = 'C'NamedViewCriteria drag and drop from ViewObject's NamedViewCriteria from data control
    ( ( (CinderBusinessPartners.BP_KEY LIKE ('%' || :pBpKey || '%') ) AND (CinderBusinessPartners.BP_TYPE = 'C' ) ) )There are three problems:

    1) The query pulls back all items. It doesn't retrieve only where BP_TYPE = 'C'.
    2) It is case sensitive. i.e. Enter in A will not pull back the customer Wal-Mart because Wal-mart contains lowercase a's.
    3) If I set the table's "Show Filter" attribute to true, the filter has the text "\*pBpKey\*" filled in by default. uhhh What?

    In the NamedViewCriteria's "UI Hints" tab, I have the "Query Automatically" checkbox selected.

    Any ideas why the NamedViewCriteria isn't "just working"?

    I'll be back with pictures after the break.

    DB:3.38:Reuse Interactive Report Filtering Components x1

    Hi everyone! I wanted to create a change notification application with APEX. I'm planning to use the Interactive Report to enable the users build their own saved query using the filtering function of IR. I will provide an option for the user to subscribe (via email) for every query they want when their conditions has been met due to data change in the future. (ex. the user is waiting for some material delivery. This application will alert the user when it became available.)

    I want to use the filtering components from the Interactive Report (column selection, automatic operator availability based on column data type and the expressions box) for query building. Is this possible? Or if not, can I at least retrieve the "SQL WHERE clause" behind the Filter?

    Any ideas for this type of application? Thanks in advance!

    DB:3.38:Reuse Interactive Report Filtering Components x1

    I've found it! I could get the SQL for the filters by using the APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_IR_COND APEX view. I'm still not sure about the multiple user situation. But all the filter information are there! Great!

    APEX is magnificent! And I'm such a newbie.

    Hi All,

    I am having a transactional table with 3 million records. Its a call center application's transactional data. That table has a indexed date field.

    When I tried to retrieve cases that are created on a particular date time its working fine and its going for a index range scan.

    But when I tried to retrieve cases that are created over a period of time (Less than fortnight interval) using between clause its going for FTS even after the Index hint.

    Please help me in solving this issue.

    Regards,
    Subbu S

    DB:3.23:Issue With Index On Datefield m8

    I did describe in basic terms the approach used by the CBO to determine whether a FTS is more desirable than an Index Range Scan.

    As for the "exact calculations".. I'm not sure that how much more light that will throw on the subject at hand. I think it is more important to know the behaviour of the CBO than just what it does under the hood.

    Nor do I think these "exact calculations" are even officially documented in the public domain. Such a question would be better answered by someone like Jonathan Lewis.

    I would however expect that numerous factors play a role - like block sizes of index vs table (they can be in different tablespaces with different block sizes), density of data per block, types of index, types of table and so on.

    DB:3.11:Set Block Property Where Clause Dynamically For Last N Records 1z

    You cannot safely assume that rowid will be assigned in chronological order.
    It often will, but NOT always.
    If a record is deleted the rowid may be reused in another (and newer) record.
    And if you fill a datablock you also risk jumping to lower rowid's.
    export/import may also reorder the records.

    Rowid is the physical block address of the record, not some timestamp.

    Use a date column instead.

    DB:2.96:Where Exists Not Filtering Data sf

    I am loading "Dealer Id" from a table then filtering the data while loading another table using where exists clause(dealer id,dealer no).

    Filtering is done for above table.

    then,

    concatenate another table

    while loading this table using where exists clause(dealer id,dealer no).

    but data is not filtered for 2nd table.

    why exists not working in 2nd table?

    Please help.

    DB:2.96:Where Exists Not Filtering Data sf

    I think because in first condition your where exist condition will get those records which is loaded above so far.

    so, after again use this exist condition for another table on the basis of filtering table the condition will get only those records which are in all three tables and second time used where exists condition doesn't give you the exact result which you want So, you have to load 2nd table two times like below and make join between them

    T1:

    LOAD RowNo() as Key,* INLINE [

    DB:2.96:Restriction On Number Of Conditions In Where Clause? cf

    Hi all,

    Is there any restriction on number of conditions that can be given in a where clause of a select. I am using a standard BAPI where in where clause is being built dynamically based on inputs to BAPI. For some input data i can see the number of where conditions is around 40000+. So it is dumping.

    BAPI is BAPI_COPAPLANNING_GETDATA.

    Also is there any transaction(Other than KEPM)/any FM to post the planning data to system. i tried BAPI_COPAPLANNING_POSTDATA.. But it is not giving me correct results.

    Any help on this is highly appriciated.

    Thanks,

    Hello all,

    I have created a package to retrieve all the DML's executed against the database for the day, for a particular user. DBMS_LOGMNR package was used to retrieve DMLs. But the DMLs retrieved have their 'WHERE' clause text converted to ROWID's. I need to find out the 'WHERE' clause with the parameters.

    I tried retrieving values from the v$sql views, but that information is cryptic and very volatile.

    Is there a way to retrieve the 'Where' clause? If not, is there a way to retrieve the 'WHERE' clause information using a trigger against the corresponding table.

    I am using oracle 8i and tried SYS_CONTEXT current_sql parameter. But Current_sql is not available in 8i, it's from 9i onwards.

    DB:2.94:Problem Passing Values From One Jsp To Another - Comes As Null f3

    Hello,

    I am posting this again with the hope that somebody would help me out.

    I have a download.jsp page where there is a table with values from an Oracle database. The main purpose of my applications is to manipulate the data. For each record i have a link that directs me to an editrecord.jsp page. The url to editrecord.jsp link is appended with a String value that I would be needing in my next step for editing the record. When I am directed to my editrecod.jsp I'm trying to retrieve this request.getParameter("clause") to save it as a hidden field to pass on the value to my Servlet for editing. I will not be able to save this string values as a session attribute as every record has a unique "clause" value.

    The problem is with retrieving the value from request.getParameter("clause") which always comes as NULL. I see the clause parameter and value in the url on my editrecord.jsp but unable to get the value from the request.

    The same application works fine on tomcat3.2.1 but now I'm just trying to deploy the application on tomcat4.0.1 and I have this problem.

    Here is the URL link on my download.jsp

    Here is the editrecord.jsp where i'm trying to retrieve the value:

    form name="editrecord" action="servlet/dataedit" method="post"
    input type=hidden name="clause" value="%= request.getParameter("clause") %"
    pinput type=submit value="Update"input type=reset value="Reset"

    Please help me with this problem.

    Hi,

    Is there a way to directly map the XML i send as input to the WHERE clause of a SELECT query within the DBMS_XMLQuery.newContext(), and retrieve the required data from the database ?

    DB:2.93:Passing And Retrieving Data Using Xml. k3

    Yes, there is a way. As the XSU exposes API's (JAVA and pl/sql) to all of its functionality, you can write a little program which can do just what you are talking about. You can write a little program which parses your input document. It then passes the desired values (binds) to the XSU. Definitely not hard.

    visar

    ps.: There is no such call as clearBindValues as there is no need for it. Instead you simply rebind the new value. Hope some of this is helpful.

    DB:2.90:Add Adapter Metadata Wizard For Wcf-Sql Adapter Not Returning The Response Schema With Elements xs

    The mentioned behavior is by design. This is because when you have added XMLdata, then the data is returned to the adapter in a single XML string and hence adapter outputs the same.1) First of all, you may chose NOT to use XMLdata with the new Adapter i.e. WCF LOB SQL Adapter. Just remove xml auto XMLdata from your stored procedure and use the Strongly Typed Stored Procedures feature of the adapter 2) If you cannot do away with the FOR XML ..., then the adapter provides XmlStoredProcedure feature for backward compatibility. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd787898.aspx  this link tells about executing the stored procedure which has for XML using the WCF LOB SQL Adapter. Abhinav

    DB:2.90:Alternatives To Rfc_Read_Table? 1f

    Hello

    I currently writing an application using the .Net connector that extracts tables from SAP into a local database. As this is an application that should work generically with any SAP implementation, I cannot write a custom RFC for this task, and I need to use an RFC that also allows for filter conditions (i.e. I can define the WHERE clause somewhere).

    I have been using bRFC_READ_TABLE/b, which I know is not recommended nor supported by SAP. However it does not retrieve data in Unicode, so the Japanese/Russian/Greek/etc. records that I retrieve are all garbled.

    Is there another predefined RFC that can do accomplish this? Basically I need the following:

    - Input table name

    - Input WHERE conditions

    - Retrieve fields and data from table in Unicode

    I have been looking into the following RFCs on my system:

    bRFC_GET_TABLE_ENTRIES

    TABLE_ENTRIES_GET_VIA_RFC

    GET_TABLE_RFC/b

    ...but documentation and on-line information about them is extremely limited.

    Any help is highly appreciated.

    Re: OSS Note 758278

    It describes how to modify the code of RFC_READ_TABLE so that it supports Unicode.

    Unfortunately... I ibwish/b/i I could actually change the function, but this application is meant to run on systems for our clients without any modification to the SAP systems (this includes writing new function modules or modifying existing ones).

    Otherwise this would have been a much easier problem to solve!

    DB:2.88:-- Sql -- Group By Clause: Non-Aggregate Fields Mandate 73

    Hello,

    I was studying Databases, (particularly the retrieval of the data), and found something interesting.

    While using an Aggregate Function in the SELECT clause, it is mandatory to have all the non-aggregate fields in the SELECT clause to be there in the GROUP BY clause.
    For example,

    SELECT dept_no, SUM(salary)
    FROM employee
    GROUP BY dept_no;

    The above SQL works fine.
    But, what if the user misses the dept_no in the GROUP BY clause or he/she misses the GROUP BY clause itself?
    Certainly, it is an error.

    Why is this error not handled by the database. I mean, the database should be smart/intelligent enough to add the GROUP BY clause by itself. So suppose, if I miss out the GROUP BY clause or miss a non-aggregate field from the SELECT clause when I am having at least one aggregate function on a field with at least one non-aggregated field in the SELECT clause, the database should check the GROUP BY clause at time of compilation and add the mandate missed out fields in the GROUP BY clause.

    Example,

    SQL1:_
    SELECT dept_no, SUM(salary)
    FROM employee
    GROUP BY dept_no;

    SQL2:_
    SELECT dept_no, SUM(salary)
    FROM employee;

    Here, the SQL1 and SQL2, both should give me same outputs without an error.

    I am unable to understand why is this not handled?

    DB:2.88:Data Block Query x1

    I have a data block and I have checked in the properties page of the data block, the query source name is a view. So by that I am able to determine that it is querying a view but in the where clause there is nothing mentioned.I also checked in the forms, if the where clause in the forms is being set dynamically using set_block_property, that also is not happening. Is there any other way by which the where clause can be built or any other place where it can be mentioned.Also I would like to mention that there are database items under that block, so if there are no where clause will it automatically filter the data after querying the view based on the value available in the database items under the block.Thanks for your help in advance.

    DB:2.88:Data Block Query x1

    When you run your form, you can place it into Query Mode by pressing the Query Mode function key. In Forms 9i and higher the Query Mode function key is F11. If I remember correctly, in Forms 6i or lower - the Query Mode function key was F7. With your form in Query Mode, a user can enter search criteria in any base table item and then press the Execute Query function key (Ctrl+F11 or F8 - respectively) and forms will dynamically add the search criteria to the WHERE Clause. This is default Forms functionality so you can't see these additions to the WHERE clause in the Forms Builder. If you want to see the Query Forms executes in this situation, you could modify your Form and add a Post-Query trigger to your block to display or write the value of the :SYSTEM.LAST_QUERY system variable to the screen via an Alert or by adding a multi-line non-table control item to your Form and assigning the value of the system variable to the item. I like this method because it is easier to copy and paste the "Last Query" to SQL Developer or TOAD so you can examine the query or run it.Hope this helps...Craig

    Hello all,
    Im experiencing some strange behavior withExecuteDataSet anda stored procedure. Im using the EL Data Access Appllication Block DBCommandWrapper around a stored proc with one param passed in to retrieve some rows based on the param. The stored proc has an INNER JOIN and a WHERE clause that uses the param to filter. The problem is that it will not return the matching records... and yes, there are matching records.
    In all cases when using SQL Management Studio to run the stored proc, I get records back. However when running ExecuteDataSet from the app, I only get records back only when I remove the WHERE clause from the stored proc or when I hard code a value in the WHERE clause.

    WHERE b.SiteDesignerID = @authorizedSiteDesignerID

    So what gives ??? Why isnt the ExecuteDataSet call to the stored proc returning rows with the passed in parameter? Thanks.

    I am guessing that the between dates and the EmployeeID should not be hardcoded on the Receive binding but rather set dynamically?
    In that case you will need to receive the data from a Solicit-Response Send Port started by some schedule-mechanism, and using a polling statement:

    Hi,

    I'm using LoadVars to retrieve some data from a table using

    to retrieve the info, but once I post the swf to the website
    nothing happens. I"m posting to the same remote page. I don't think
    LoadVars is even firing since the trace in my else clause is not
    firing. Any ideas? Thanks.

    var reserved = new LoadVars();
    reserved.load("

    reserved.onLoad = function(success)

    ....
    }

    DB:2.85:Works On Development Computer, Not On Website 38

    Another possible problem to eliminate is...

    Reverse the order of these.

    reserved.load("
    http://www.thefatblackpussycat.com/reservations/getReservedTables.php");
    {
    ...
    }
    reserved.onLoad = function(success)

    to this order

    reserved.onLoad = function(success)
    {
    ...
    }
    reserved.load("
    http://www.thefatblackpussycat.com/reservations/getReservedTables.php");

    Since the onLoad property is dynamically assigned at run time
    it is possible the load method completes before the onLoad property
    is assigned or at least progresses past the point it uses that
    property value.

    A quick technique to debug live is to add a TextField or
    TextArea component to part of the stage and output messages to that
    instead of trace.

    DB:2.84:[Microsoft][Odbc Driver For Oracle][Oracle]Ora-00919: Invalid Function aa

    From what I understood from your post:
    You are trying to use the getdate() function in SQL Server to get the current date and pass it to Oracle.
    What's happening is that, Oracle does not have a function called "getdate()" and that's why the error you are seeing is the Invalud function.

    Try to pass your date as a variable with the correct format, and not the direct function, and that should work.

    DB:2.83:Classes In Order To Retrieve Data? 1a

    We do not use classes. If that is used in the way you write it then it is a shared class, and that is almost the same as a module.
    We use objects (which use the members as those are described in a class) by instancing those from a Class.
    The objects are somewhere in memory and will be released by the Garbage Collector as soon as they are not anymore used.
    And some more they are easily to reuse so they can be used endless times.
    But this are only two of the advantages.
    I see now I write not much different then Paul, but maybe some other way.

    Using this syntax you only specify the order in which
    records are inserted, and that has nothing to
    do with the order in which you retrieve them.well, I would even say, you can specify the order in which record are selected before being inserted, but this is not necessarily the order they are inserted.

    For example in a partition table, or a sorted cluster, or an IOT, it seems to me that you cannot determine the way Oracle will insert the data, even by specifying order by.

    the INSERT in a partition table can occur in parallel, what is the "ORDER" then?

    DB:2.83:Re: Order By Clause x1

    Your statement should insert the rows into the table in the order specified. It will not re-sort existing rows. However as was said several times here, to get the rows out in sorted order you need to use an order by on the select out as well.

    Hi all,
    I have the following data in the Route_Operating_cost table.
    This table is used within the stored procedure.
    Within the stored procedure, the parameter period (ex: 201309) is being passed into the stored procedure.
    Depending on what parameter period is passed into the stored procedure, I would like to retrieve the appropriate
    record based on the period parameter.
    Example:
    if the period parameter is september, 2013 or later, I want to get 2013-09 record.
    if the period parameter is August, 2013, I want to get 2013-08 record.
    if the period parameter is July, 2013, I want to get 2013-02 record.
    Sample Data:
    LOB EffectivePeriod Operating Cost CompanyID
    T 2013-02 $75.00
    0104
    T 2013-08 $105.00
    0104
    T 2013-09 $95.00
    0104
    I am thinking of using CASE statement in the WHERE clause OR using Sub-Select to retrieve appropriate record but I am not certain how to go about achieving this.
    Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

    DB:2.83:Case Statement In Where Clause Or Case Statement In Sub-Select mc

    I hope you see that it is much easier to solve a problem if it can be stated correctly. Now how about the DDL of the table(s) involved as well as the datatype that you intend to use as the argument and an example of the value passed (assuming it might
    be different from that found in the table).
    The short answer is to use the generate a calculated column using the row_number() function and ordering by descending value of EffectivePeriod for where EffectivePeriod = argument. When you do that, the row with the value of 1 for this column
    will be the one you want. Using a cte it would be something like:
    with cte as (select ..., row_number() over (order by EffectivePeriod desc) as rno

    from mytable where EffectivePeriod = argument )
    select * from cte where rno = 1;
    There are other ways to do this. It relies on functionality that may not be present in the version you are using -which is why you should always provide that information.

    HI,

    Iam Implementing SRM MM-SUS(PDP) with SAP BW and i was using few data sources for this scenario(0SRM_GLS_ORDERS AND 0SRM_GLS_CHANGE_ORDERS) and when i tried to check the data in extract checker(RSA3) i found a dump mentioned below.

    An exception occurred that is explained in detail below.

    The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_DYNAMIC_OSQL_SEMANTICS', was

    not caught in

    procedure "RSA3_GEN_GET_DATA" "(FUNCTION)", nor was it propagated by a RAISING

    clause.

    An invalid table name "RSA3_GEN_GET_DATA" was specified in an Open SQL command:

    Due to one of the following reasons, the error occurs only at runtime:

    - the table name was specified dynamically, or

    - the SELECT clause, WHERE clause, GROUP-BY clause, HAVING clause, or

    ORDER-BY clause was specified dynamically.

    Symptom

    You load data from an SAP source system using a demon for Realtime Data Acquisition. The request terminates with the log message RSM 340 'Errors in source system'. The short dump overview of the source system contains the entry DBIF_RSQL_INVALID_CURSOR in the function module RSA3_GEN_GET_DATA when the termination occurs.

    Other terms

    Reason and Prerequisites

    This problem is caused by a program error.

    Can you please help me out in this regard in resoving the issue.

    Can anyone please suggest ho to use (not equal to) condition with where clause for example if i need to load as per the below statement

    LOAD EmployeeID,

    SQL SELECT *

    WHERE Country 'UK';

    Thanking You

    Maybe it's not important in you case, but I have to point out that all these solutions while excluding records where Country='UK' will also exclude records where Country is null. If you don't have null values in the Country field, you can of course use any of the above.

    DB:2.82:Doubts Regarding Unusable Clause sk

    Hello,
    Say I need to load huge amount of data into a table having indexes. To improve performance I need to drop indexes. I was told that using unusable clause we can prevent dropping and recreating indexes. Can I update or load data when I use unusable clause on indexes.
    Will the performance degrade by using unusable clause over dropping of indexes.

    The question is simple but do reply .

    Thanks in advance

    DB:2.82:Doubts Regarding Unusable Clause sk

    I was just thinking along the lines of using DIRECT=TRUE with SQL*Loader which loads the data quickly but then refreshes the indexes after the load. Likewise though you can do an INSERT /* APPEND */ to get the same effect through a bulk insert.

    Essentially I was just curious how the data was being "loaded".

    Hi

    We use Oracle 8i Release 8.1.6.0.0. and data entry for a number of fields is the default Sysdate . Oracle makes a default Sysdate data entry in the columns where the default constraint was specified and shows it too in the select statement, but if a query containing a Where Date = any date is given then its doesnt retrieve the data in which a default entry was made by the system.

    Can someone help please or is this a Bug?.

    Thanks

    DB:2.81:Default Sysdate Data Retrieval Using Where Clause. ac

    when using date = ??? in a where clause you must be careful as the sysdate is of the format dd/mm/yy hh:mi:ss.
    you could put a to_date in your where clause to specify the date format you are giving.

    fragmentation vs where clause

    for example if i have data from a to z. iam fragmenting data
    from a to m in on LTS and M to Z in another.
    this we can do with the where clause like in one LTS
    data from A to Z by using where clause .. what is difference.
    please help me.. any performance issues.
    thank you.

    DB:2.81:Fragmentation Vs Where Clause Obiee 10g Rpd jm

    In an enterprise world, data is often partitioned into multpile physical sources for a single logical table. This helps in organised data set with faster query results fetching. In such cases, BI server should know where to go for what type of data and under what conditions. Hence the fragmentation is defined to to handle efficient access by navigation to the appropriate physical source as per the request.
    e.g. there may be an aggregate table and a detailed table being accessed for different requests appropriately.

    This helps in performance improvement.

    Adding a where clause will still refer to the same table source hence no benefit of this feature is exhibited in this scenario.

    DB:2.81:Retrieve Rows In Order As They Are Feeded 7p

    further more ordery by clause is also not fruitful Fnord. Order by is the only way of guaranteeing order, even when selecting from a single table, let alone with a join. However, if - as Laurent points out - you do not have a timestamp or similar column identifying order of insertion then that information is irretrievable. Sorry.

    CANC_MO CANC_YR are not 0 then do not process rows where the CANC_MO CANC_YR is EFF_DATE Manik had the rigth method, but I think there is a mistake on the "do not process rows"
    As you are comparing CANC_MO and CANC_YR with a Date, I suppose those 2 fields are Month and Year of a date
    So I'd say :
    where (CANC_MO!=0 and CANC_MO!=0 and CANC_YR||CANC_MO=to_char(EFF_DATE , 'YYYYMM'))

    I only process rows IF it's not 0 and YR||MO=Year-Month part of EFF_DATE
