I do hope we can change your mind about leaving, blackriver. What is bringing you to cancel the service and have a termination fee? If you do cancel, you'll receive your final bill in the mail and a check can be sent to the address on the remittance slip. You can also make a payment at www.vzw.com/paymybill for open or closed accounts.

I don't think there is a termination fee as you're not technically in a 2 year agreement. But I think you have to be post 30 days in you EDGE agreement and pay half the balance if you're wanting to EDGE up again.

I had a 2 year promo for switching from Direct TVand becoming a new comcast customer. My 2 year promo was about to end so I called to prevent being charged full price for the package I currently have. Apparently I was 13 days too early and have been charged a 45.00 early termination fee. I spoke with a supervisor and this is company policy that cannot be changed. Good thing I kept my original paper work because no where on there does it mention an early termination. I WILL NOT be paying this fee.

Let us know the final outcome. Based on the facts as you have presented them, here's what I am guessing occurred:

    1. At some point in time AFTER you established services, Comcast issued additional paperwork which contained their "terms and conditions" including the early-termination fee. I don't know if it would be legally binding on you if it wasn't disclosed at the time, and if you had not signed documents for it.

    2. If Comcast believed they had the right to impose at ETF, it seems very strange to me that when you "called to prevent being charged full price for the package I currently have", that the Comcast rep failed to disclose the imposition of an ETF at the time you called, so you would be able to cancel your request and wait until the 13 days had elapsed.

    3. To my knowledge, I don't have an ETF on my promotional rate, but you raised a very interesting question: for subscribers who DO sign up for a 1-year or 2-year contract with an ETF, how long is the "grace period" after the ETF term expires? Is there an "automatic rollover" provision where you are "locked in" to a new 1-year or 2-year contract unless you affirmatively cancel it, and if so, how do you stop the "automatic rollover". (This is similar to the practice of many banks which regard to certificates of deposit, where they have an "Automatic Renewal" clause and you have only a 7-calendar-day "grace period" to close out the CD without an early-withdrawal penalty).

Do the math, you pay over the full cost of a high end phone over a 2 year contract.

Cost of phone up front - $200 or more

Cost difference between edge plan access and contract access with 10gb - $25 ($15 edge $40 contract)

    Total over 2 years - $25 x 24 = $600 + $200 = $800

No you can just do a transfer of billing responsiblity and split theline off. One thing to remember - if you have no credit score or a low one you may be required to put a sizable security deposit.

You would need to go thru our sales team or online to add the new line. A credit check will be performed, and if there are any applicable security deposits, you would be responsible.

Are you looking to cancel your line to get an iPhone at discounted pricing? Have you looked to see if another line on your account may be eligible for an upgrade? If so, you can do an alternate upgrade and transfer the upgrade to the line you want to have the upgrade.

The only problem with what you are wanting to do is its not going to work. If you cancel your account and pay the ETF there is a 90 day waiting period to start a new account. If you try to start one before the 90 days it will result in your old account being reactivated.

AFAIK, the short answer is 'no'. You pay an ETF because you're ending your contract term early, and if you then turn around and try to reactivate service within the first 50 days (at least I think it's 50; it may be 60), your contract is reinstated.

Hi, i am on a family share plan with 5 people. I am neither of the 2 primary cell phones. I would like to move from verizon to at t because of the iphone. My question is i am eligible for an upgrade in february but my contract is over in june. So when can i switch to at t without being charged for an early termination fee. I have a blackberry and understand the early termination fee is $350 minus $10 for every month completed. If i have to wait until june then i will pay the termination fee. But i also have an LG Dare (which is a feature phone) so can i switch from my blackberry to the dare because the termination fee for feature phones is $175 minus $5 for every month completed. And once my dare is reactivated, can i cancel my plan and be billed for the feature phone early termination fee?

Sorry that's not going to work. You WILL get charged an ETF if you refuse to pay it will go against your credit for 7 years. Hope you don't need any kinds of loans until 2021. You might save $63 a month on pre-paid but you're certainly not getting MORE. And since Verizon has plans as low as $45 I'm wondering which pre-paid companies offers service for -$18( as in MINUS $18 ).

Solid point but I wasn't talking about an unlocked iPhone. I could be wrong but purchasing an iPhone outright gives you the option to pay month to month instead of a contract. It would still be Locked to that carrier but possibly cheaper then to buy out a contract. As I said I could be wrong. You'll have to check with Verizon.

i get the early termination fee but, i heard that you have to buy the phone if you terminate service before your contract is up any truth to that.

DB:3.80:Early Termination Fee. Have To Buy The Phone? fx

I think the only instance where that MAY occur is if you try canceling the account before the 14 day return period occurs (or within a very short timeframe of purchasing the phone). You may then be required to pay the full retail amount as some people may try using that method to obtain the phone and then sell it for close to full retail....then only having to pay the ETF...and possibly make some sort of profit. But in general...all you would pay is the ETF fee and any remaining bill balance you may have. Until that is paid you would not be able to do anything with the iPhone attached to the account (if you sold it but owed VZW money then the new buyer might not be able to activate it). You can always contact VZW directly to get an accurate answer to your question. As mentioned, you can put a different phone on the line if you don't want to pay the ETF....

You only have to pay the ETF if you are cancelling a line or porting a line out to another provider while under contract. There is no other scenario in which you have to pay an ETF.

"Early Edge" is a limited time promotion where you are entering into an Edge agreement while you are still under contract. You DO NOT have to pay an ETF to enter into an Early Edge agreement, but you do have to return the phone you purchased when entering into your current contract in good working order without any physical/water damage. If you return the phone and Verizon finds it to not be in good working order or has some physical/water damage I believe there is a fee of $299 which will be charged to your account.

Whether or not Verizon is currently offering Early Edge, I do not know.

I have a question. I just recently became a customer of ATT. I had to pay a deposit of $500.00 to get my phone. I am thinking of cancelling the service early. My question is if I terminate early, will ATT take the termination fee out of the deposit or will they keep the deposit and then charge me the cancellation fee?

    Thanks.

DB:3.77:Question About Terminatio Fee And Depoisit fj

I am not sure if this is still the case, but it used to be that the deposit was refunded to the account and applied toward any balance on the account. If there is a remaining credit balance, then its refunded via check. If you are terminating service outside of your 30 days buyers remorse period, the cancellation fee is $175.00, however, it will be reduced by $5.00 for every month you have your contract active.

    DB:3.67:Early Termination Fee ff

ETF fees start at either $75, or $150 depending on which promotion you received. They are reduced every 3 months by 10% of the initial cost. So a $150 ETF would reduce $15 every 3 months, and after 15 months it would be $90.

If it was a $75 initial fee, you would be looking at $45 after the 15th month.

What date is the early termination fee calculated from? I've been with Verizon for many years, and it's been over 2 years since our phones were upgraded (they were last eligible October 2011). Why would I get charged an early termination fee after this long?

    DB:3.67:Early Termination Fee?? sd

If you have completed your entire 2yr contract, then there would not be an ETF. You must remember that you have a separate contract for EACH line and would only have the same end dates if you upgraded on the same date.

Also, the upgrade date is 4 months PRIOR to the end of the contract, so if you were last eligible for upgrade in October 2011, then your contract just expired in Feb 2012, 4 months after your upgrade eligibility date. If you upgraded any/all of your phones with discounted pricing, though, you would have NEW contracts which would have reset the ETF's.

I do not understand how Comcast would charge an early termination fee when we are moving to an apratment building that does not have Comcast. I think it is outrageous but completely reperesentative of the terrible customer service for which this company is notorious. I would have cancelled my service a year ago

    DB:3.67:Early Termination Fee 19

Unfortunately Comcast looks at moving as 'voluntary' unless it is for deployment or move of base for armed services and they will charge you the ETF even if Comcast doesn’t have services where you are moving too.

I am guessing they do that because people who have contracts gets incentives ( Visa cards, free equipment ) or a huge discount on their services. Comcast gives them those things because they can guarantee they will be getting paid by them for 2-3 years. Since in moving it comes to light they will not be they want to recoup the cost of those ‘discounts’. Plus I am sure they don’t want people who are not a ‘guaranteed’ customer to get those discounts or there would be no point in having contracts

Comcast is in it for the money……………..that is it

I have talked with 3 different agents, over the internet, in the last 2 weeks. None of them seem concerned that Verizon might be losing me after 15 years.

I have a nationwide plan with 4 phones. Two of the phones are smartphones and two are basic phones. One smartphone has unlimited data and the other smartphone has 2 G of data. I want to change the two basic phones to smartphones, but then my bill goes from $169.99 to $260 a month and we would be sharing 10 G of data. I can buy 2 ATT smartphones from the classifieds for about $200 total. Then I can take all 4 of my phones to ATT and have 30 G of data to share for $190. Yes I need to do this before Oct.31st.

What would Verizon be willing to do for me so they don't lose me?

I recommend jumping on the online chart support or give them a call to ask if you are in a contract, which they can tell very easily. The last I can recall is that your type of package is not on a contract but it can come along with apromotional period for a year or two. Ask to confirm though.

    Edit:

To Confirm what you asked though, unless it's a contract no Early Term fees apply even if it's under a promo period.

When you're on month to month you're not under contract so of curse there isn't a ETF. And yes if your're not under contract you are subject to any changes Verizon wants to make. Keep in mind it would have to be less than 2 months for it to be $130. If you have exactly 2 months left on your contract and you cancel your line, you would not yet have completed 22 full months which would bring your ETF up to $140. When you have completed 22 months of your contract, that means you are in the first day of the 23rd month, so you actually have LESS than 2 months left on your contract. It is not how much is LEFT on your contract before the end, but how much you have completed. If you have only completed 21 months and 29 days, Verizon still considers you to have 3 months left on your contract for ETF purposes.

Assuming your fiance is keeping her own number there is no ETF as long as she's moving from Vzn-to-Vzn. You will need to complete an AOL (assignment of liability) to move the line from one acct to the other.

    Hi,

My contract ends on the 17th December andtoday I've received the "Bill is ready" notification for October which should get paid immediately by direct debit.

Am I correct in thinking that if I request my PAC code now and use it in the next week or so, I will pay my monthly basic rate of £37 x2 for November December?

Is there any additional fee other than paying off the remaining months? This might seem like a stupid question but just want to be 100%...

    DB:3.57:Early Termination Fee 3s

    Hi there

Assuming that 17th December is your contract end date and not your early upgrade date, then yes, you will have approximately 2 months of bills left to pay. Obviously if you would like to get an exact price, you need to call 191 and they will confirm it for you.

There are no additional fees other than the number of months of line rental remaining. Do remember that the ETF is excluding VAT and has a 2% rebate.

my 2 year contract is set to expire in early november. i would like to jump ship to another carrier before my contract is up with att. i read that for an early termination fee, i would take 175 and then subtract from that 5 times the number of months completed. so, if i wait until under a month is left, that would be 23 month times 5 which would be 115. then i would take 115 from 175 and i would have to pay att 60 dollars??? that is ridiculous. what if i have like 5 days left? they would still charge me 60 bucks??

    DB:3.56:Early Termination Fee Question fz

Gees, it's only a month till Nov. I'd wait til the day "after"the contract expired then port to the new carrier.

Why pay an ETF for that short period of time. And YES, you will pay the ETF, even if it is "ONE" day before your contract end's. That $60 is a whole month's service on another carrier.

OK, sorry it's not a tech enquiry (either asking or answering) but:

Above, in Blackberry Storm Update, Tom_Vodafone gives us clear instructions regarding early termination etc of our contracts.

In that, he mentions a 25% discount off the fee.

My question is this: is this an indefinate or time-restricted discount?

There are many happy Storm users (mine has it's moments, but generally behaves itself) but what if this ceases to be the case? Bearing in mind that most of us are on long contracts, what if our Storms rebel in the future we decide we would rather pay the early termination fee move on? Will we still receive that 25% discount off whatever our fee will be, or is it gonna be withdrawn if we don't request early termination, well, early enough?

The VF signal around me is fine, so I've always considered that buying a sim-free Curve or other BB transferring this account to it would be cheaper than the termination fee anyway, but there will obviously become a time when this isn't the case. So do we have to 'register our potential dissatisfaction' now to possibly receive the discount in the future?

    DB:3.55:Early Termination Fee For Iphone5 8f

    Hi,

What would be my early termination fee.. my Iphone5 contract ends in 09/14. I am a first time Verizon customer.

    DB:3.55:Early Termination Fee For Iphone5 8f

I've done online chat twice with Verizon agents to confirm the following:

I could cancel my contractPay the early termination fee of $350 - ($10 * number of months paid on 2-year contract)Keep the phoneImmediately start a new 2-year agreement with a new phoneHave no adverse credit impact

If planning to get a new phone every year, the decision between planning to pay the ETF vs. enrolling in Edge comes down to the expected resale value of the 1-year-old phone. Getting $400 for a phone that originally retailed for $849 makes paying the ETF slightly cheaper. But based on recent iPhone 5 values now that the 5c has been released, $300 is a more reasonable estimate meaning Edge comes out more than $100 cheaper.

The other benefits to planning to pay the ETF are:
Keep the phone for 2 years and save a few hundred vs. the Edge planSwitch carriers after a year

DB:3.55:Can I Keep My Iphone (3g S) If I Terminate New 2 Year Contract? jf

Here is my question, if I am a new customer and sign a 2 year contract for the 3gS would I be able to keep the iPhone if I early terminate after a month or two? If I can what kind of fees would apply? My understanding is that I would pay $299 for the phone + activation fee + monthly service fee + early termination fee ($175). Is that correct? I just want to make sure I would not have to pay any other fees on top of that if I decided to cancel and still keep the iPhone 3gS. Also would this be the same calculation for the family plan with 2 iPhones or would it just be a double early termination fee? Thanks for your time.

DB:3.55:Can I Keep My Iphone (3g S) If I Terminate New 2 Year Contract? jf

    Definitely check with ATT.

Not the same, but I know when you go to Best Buy - they have a "no plan" price and then a 2 year contract price. In the ad fine print it usually says something like the customer must remain a subscriber to ____ (att, verizon, whoever) for ___ months or be liable for for the balance of the phone.

I haven't looked at the fine print lately there or on ATT because quite frankly - I have no problem with a 2 year contract and wouldn't switch off att. I was on Sprint for many years and switched (then) because I started to travel overseas and needed a GSM phone. Now that I'm on ATT and it's international - no need to switch and have been quite happy with them as any issues I've ever had have always been resolved pretty quickly and painlessly.

Yeah, it's been posted. There's a discussion of this topic over in the Smartphone/PDA section as it only applies to "advanced devices". You can read about it here and add your thoughts if you like.

I am going to buy an iPhone 6 under contract with Verizon.4.

However since I am an exchange student from outside of country, I need to go back to my country after 5 months.

Can I get my iPhone unlocked after paying my early termination fee?

Verizon iPhone 5 and up, I believe, come unlocked. I've used straight talk sim in my iPhone 5s with no problems. It needs to be a nano sim or you will have to cut it down to make it fit. I do not have any experience using outside of U.S.

And I'm not sure about the military deployment, but in the other scenarios I believe you have to pay the fee and then it's refunded.

From what I have read on the forums: Military deployment (you have to fax your deployment instructions), move outside of an ATT location (you have to provide a utility bill with your address), within the first 30 days of your newly started contract, and death.

    DB:3.55:Early Termination Fee Waiver? kc

My husband just lost his job and I've been unemployed for a while. We really can't afford all of the fios services right now. Is there anyway Verizon would allow a waiver of the termination fee under these circumstances?

    DB:3.55:Early Termination Fee Waiver? kc

hi, sorry about the situation. these are peer to peer forums, so we can only talk from experience, and I haven't had any experience like that, and I have known a lot of people that have kept and left fios equally. they are pretty strict about the eearly termination fee, but if they won't let you out of it, maybe try making payment arrangements. if you're keeping internet and tv at all - maybe talk to them about how you can do it the cheapest humanly possible. other than that I think payment arrangements will be your best option. Hopefully someone else has some better advice. best of luck..

you can also ask them about putting your service on vacation suspend. some area's are entitled to it, so you can tell them you're going on a long vacation and how long can you put it on suspend, maybe two three months will be enough time for you to get back in the game with saving some money to continue? just a thought.

I signed up for a 2 year triple bundle package. I am still in the 1st year. My family is having hardships and I am having to move out of state. I was just wondering what amount the early termination fee will be? I have searched all over the comcast website and there is no place listing early termination fees. Thank you for any information you can provide.

    DB:3.55:Early Termination Fee Inquiry 79

You will have to call Comcast OR go to the localoffice is there is one in your area. . Policies vary by market so no one here in the forum will be able to tell you anything about the fee.

    Returned equipment FYI:

When your equipment is picked up or turned in, GET A RETURNED EQUIPMENT RECEIPT. Make sure it documents that what you returned is a modem or tv boxes. If there are any stickers with serial or MAC numbers, make sure those numbers are on the receipt. Keep the receipt in a safe place, don't forget where you put it. Keep it until the middle of the next century. In the past, Comcast has billed customers for equipment that had been returned. Sometimes they lose track of the equipment and the receipt will be your proof that you turned it in to Comcast.

If you ship the equipment to Comcast, record tracking numbers. Keep those numbers in a safe place. You will need them later if Comcast bills you for the equipment. You can also check the status of shipped items on the delivery company webpage. When you see it was delivered, print screen the delivery status. UPS also offers Track By Email. Use that option. You'll be notified when it is delivered. Save the email-again this will be proof it was received by Comcast.

Print out the delivery confirmation (if your computer crashes and you lose the info the print out will be your proof of return) This should also be kept in a safe place where you can get to it if needed. I know from experience that having the receipts can save you a lot of headaches. I was able to pull out my receipts when a collection agency notified me I owed for Comcast equipment that had been returned.

Comcast employees must be authorized to post in the forum in an official capacity. Employees posting here have their names in red and are designated as employees. Names not in red are customers.

This is done to protect customers and for assurance that they are dealing with a Comcast employee.Non-Authorized Employees are allowed to post but cannot state they are employees nor can they allude to being employees.

So I'm on my dad's plan right now. His contract is up on the 13th of this month, he's going over to ATT. So he'll be cancelling my line which isn't up until December.

My only question is, how much is the early termination fee?

    DB:3.55:Early Termination Fee 88

    JosShavaughn wrote:

My only question is, how much is the early termination fee?

It's based on how many months of your contract have been completed, and, as budone said, the type of phone you have.

Standard, multi-media and feature phones are $175 less $5 for each month completed. Based on your statement that your contract ends in December, your ETF would be $175-$100 (assuming 20 completed months) or $75 ETF.

Smartphones and Blackberries are $350 less $10 for each month completed, so $350 less $200 or $150 ETF.

I saw in my online user account that it notified me of a new user contract and from what I read it says I do not have to accept the new agreement and can cancel without an early termination fee within 30 days of that notice. When I called to do so I told it was for new customers only... so why did I get a notice saying there was a new agreement???

Did you recently sign a new contract by agreeing to a promotional offer or purchasing a new subsidized handset? Any time you sign a new contract with Verizon (even when you re-up), you have 30 days to undo the contract under the Worry-Free Gaurentee.
