because he said the best DVR experience which is provided by Tivo, cost was not mentioned. DB:3.07:Dvr Shutting Off And Deleting All Recorded Shows 31

You never get any help from the Comcast phone line, all they are taught is to re-boot your dvr so you have to wait 3 days for everything to re-load and it still doesn't affect your original problem. This just buys them time to come up with another excuse. My HD\DVR read 15% used (several movies and tv episodes I had not seen yet) last evening and when I went to view a recorded show I had an empty list with a header that still said 15% used. I recorded 2 shows after that last night and now it reads 16% used (that's with 2 shows, WTH). Unless Comcast lets loose with the ability to use their USB port to attach a stand alone hard drive for recording or they admit to their faults and correct them it may be time to start calling Direct TV.

In Comcast's defense - U-Verse can only record 4 programs at one time if you are relatively close to the VRAD.. usually less than 2500 feet. Additionally, the limitation on 4 tuner recording is 1 HD recording at a time.

You can "always" get 4 tv streams on U-Verse, but the distance from you to the VRAD at ATT in your neighborhood may assign you a varied profile. For example: you may have enough bandwidth to get 1 HD channel and 1 SD channel, simultaneously, or 1 HD and 2 SD.

Additionally, the U-Verse sales team cannot tell you what profile you will get until the tech comes out to install. So, to anyone considering U-Verse over Comcast, do some serious research on distance limitations. Which, Comcast doesn't have

Source cited: I used to work for ATT Uverse Tier 2 support, and am a Comcast customer. Also, you can google around for the same information.

Edit: The X1 system is coming... maybe not tomorrow, but it is 4 tuner dvr.

    Hi,

Comcast's digital transition just hit my area, rendering my trusty old analog DVR pretty much useless.

I wanted a high capacity DVR, and the only DVR listed on Comcast's web site for my area is 160 GB, and that's only if I get HD - if not the largest comcast DVR is 80 GB. this wasn't enough. So I bought a Tivo. It's been something of a mixed experience, but it's up and running, and it now has a Comcast cable card. I have 25 days left in which I can return the Tivo and cancel my TiVo service contract.

    Two questions:

-Any word on whether comcast is planning to raise cable card rental fees?

-Anyone know if comcast is planning to make a higher capacity comcast DVR available in my area (indianapolis)?

    Thanks!!

DB:2.94:Best Comcast Dvr Available In Indianapolis Market, And Cable Card Fee k8

If your on a Motorola system, then there are multiple models with 120,160, 250 and 320GB hard drives. The newest and larger ones are DCX3400 also known as the "black" DVR. Since equipment varies widely by market, you would need to check your local office for availability, and if they have been buying any new subscriber equipment. You also might want to check if Comcast has a Connection Center inside your local Best Buy, and check with the official Comcast rep on what equipment they can supply you for an upgrade. The DCX3400's also have some quirks and bugs that are still being worked out.

The 80GB Comcast DVR is pretty much long gone, they were the single tuner early ones.

The Tivo's are expensive, both up front and subscription charges and then add the cable card fees. No one knows if Comcast will stick us with higher cable card fees. Except for not getting On Demand and other interactive services from Comcast, most consider Tivo and Moxi a better DVR experience than the Comcast DVR, and do have expansion port for a 2nd hard drive. I have 2 HD Tivo's plus a Comcast DVR, and consider the Tivo's a better experience. Tivo's also have their own interactive web based special features you might like better.

If I were you, and the Tivo is already set up, I'd keep it.

It would be extremely doubful these days with so many expensive DVR's and settop boxesin place to pull everything out and replace it. In the 80's 90's they used to when boxes were cheap, but it would be rare especially in a large system.

I could seethem doing it in a small system that they would shut down the existing SA headend and tie the system to a nearby Moto headend, but there are not many area's that can be done with. The larger the system, the less chance of it ever happening.

Most major MSO's run both brands of equipment in different areas.

You would never seen an official answer from Comcast on major equipment changes. Comcast is concentrating on getting the new features on the SA systems, it's easier and cheaper the change the software than the hardware.

Your only close option is to purchase a Tivo XL4, with 4 tuners. You will still need to add a Comcast cable card, but the card can replace your existing Comcast supplied box for the monthly fee.

It is a premium DVR experience over anything Comcast has. Tivo is also coming out with remote boxes for the other TV's in the house, and has just released the Tivo Stream to stream and transfer recordings to a tablet.

If your into pc stuff, you can also purchase a cable card PC tuner and use a Windows 7 Mediacenter PC to do the recording. These PC tuners have 3 or 4 tuners. Then use a Xbox to watch on the TV.

DB:2.86:Tivo Dvr Versus Comcast Dvr zp

I was the very first person in a 50 mile radius to get the Tivo software on my Comcast/Motorola DVR box about a year ago. In fact it was so new that I had the direct phone number of an engineer to work with as we progressed through the install.

A few things I experienced, before I backed it out (again, however, this was about a year ago):

    - The performance was horrific. The 'Tivo software on Tivo hardware' is the premium experience. Trying to run/port the Tivo software over to the Motorola DVR seemed awkward, and it turned out to be that way. Channel switching took "forever", as did other standard activities (like the deletion of watched content).

    - Although I despise the existing Motorola DVR's interface with great passion, the drag on the performance outweighed the usability of the Tivo software/interface by a long shot.

    - Paying an additional fee, over and above what I was already paying for the standard Motorola DVR fees, seemed excessive. Especially (and to sound like a broken record) since the performance was so bad.

    - None of the really advanced features of (at the time) 'modern' Tivo units seem to be available. No online programming, no unit-to-unit sharing, etc.

    - You couldn't have the Tivo software on just a single unit in your house. It was the "whole house or no house" (as I have multiple DVRs).

Maybe the unit's improved 10x in quality, performance, etc. since then but I'm extremely hesitant to try that experiment again.

    DB:2.85:Dvr Connection To Hdtv c7

Just bought a new Plasma and retailer told me I could just connect my current Comcast/DVR box via HDMI. When I got home, I see that my current box (Motorola DCT6412) does not have an HDMI connection. I called Comcast and was told that their DVR boxes do not have HDMI connections and would need just a regular HD box if that was what I wanted.

First, is this good information? Sounds like it doesn't make much sense. Does Comcast have a DVR HD box with HDMI?

Secondly, if that's the case, what is the 2nd best option? Component connection? TV doesnt have a DVI connection either. Its a Panasonic TH-42PX80U

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

We are currently a Comcast subscriber with 3 HD DVR boxes. Thinking about getting rid of Comcast for DTV since the DTV HD DVR box will let you addcapacityto the box by adding a external Hard drive.

Where is the best place to get very detailed information on the DTV HD DVR Box? Things I want to know. With the whole home DVR, can more then one show be recorded at one time? Can more then one show be watched from that box at a time on otherreceivers?

and HDDVR can record up to two shows, while downloading an Ondemand show (assuming internet connection), while streaming to one remote receiver. all of this at the same time. if you have two HDDVR's, multiply that by 2, if 3 HDDVR's multiply by 3. and so on

My Motorola DVR labelled RNG200N on the front, will sometimes lose most or all of the recorded programs. It will also indicate zero percent space has been used of the hard drive. The power has not gone off as I have read from other people postings. I discovered that if I pull the AC plug, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in, the DVR will then show the recorded programs are there. From other formus I have seen this problem of losing the recordings, and they go back as far as 2006. I'm going to contact comcast and see about getting a newer model DVR from them.

    DB:2.81:Re: What Is Comcast's Best Dvr? 78

RNG200N is kind of a Comcast generic ID. Look for a lablel to get the specific model. I think it might be on the bottom. My RNG200N has the following on its label: Motorola DCX3501/E385/012/500

This shows that it is Motorola DCX3501 with a 500GB drive.

I have had it a year. I had to unplug it a couple times when it had a problem but have never lost any recorded programs.

We are in Oakland and have the 3400m (as a stand alone) w. a 500G drive. The earlier models had smaller drives. We got the first 3400m almost a year ago. We are now on the 3rd one because they all have the syndrome where, periodically, all you will get is a "black screen recording". Comcast refuses to admit the "black screen recording" problem is a Firm Ware problem - not hardware. This is widely discussed on independent forums.

The newest model is the 3501. I don't know much about it or whether it also has the Black Screen recording problem.

Every cable provider in my area provides a DVR that can record up too 4 shows at a time. So, what the !@#$ is comcast waiting for? The complex I currently live is so blessed to have comcast have a lock down on it. I've had Time Warner, Cox, ATT, etc. and have never had a worse experience. When is comcast going to join the 20th century and actually produce a quality product? The DVR needs more recorders along with menus that do not look like the code was written in the 80's. Seriously, can we get some up to date equipment. I had Comcast about ten years ago and nothing has changed since then. You can record 2 shows but you have to be watching one of them, Huh??? Defeats the whole purpose of having a DVR if it can only "technically" record one show. Everytime I want to record something, there is always a conflict with another program. Apparently they didn't get the memo about the whole "prime time" tv thing. All the good shows come on at the same time and On Demand is an absolute abortion. It takes 5 minutes just to load the program you want to watch, then when it is done it takes another 10 minutes just to get back to the menu. Fighting a losing battle here.

    DB:2.78:Dvr Is Horrible! sm

That's quite correct, with the TiVo Premiere 4 or TiVo Premiere 4 XL, both have four tuners to record four things at once, or recordthree things at once and watch afourth show live. Great idea

We've swapped out DVRs, too, but it keeps on happening. It's gone to level 2 support in the internet portion, but nobody has solved the problem. We continue to pay an absurd monthly charge for a service that doesn't deliver the DVR service.

Comcast is polite but not up to fixing the problem, yet. What is the solution? Comcast needs to fix its own problem. Rebooting each and every cable box every couple of hours is not the solution, obviously,

I want to use an expansion drive with my DVR (Motorola DCT 3412 I). The drive on the DVR has 20 hours HD capacity (compared to Tivo models with 45, 150 or 300 hours). 20 hours is pretty skimpy and it means watch it right away or lose it.

The DVR has an e-SATA port for connecting expansion drives and Motorola's user guide explains which drives are compatible (mine is) and how to hook them up.

Problem is: COMCAST WON'T LET ME. (No reason - just our policy!) When I plug in the expansion drive I get an error message saying use of expansion drives is not authorized with my account. I called to get authorized. The support person apparently didn't know what I was talking about and sent out an installer. The installer called his boss and the got the word that Comcast doesn't "authorize" expansion drives - not for anybody's account.

Has anybody else run into this? Is there a way around it or some way to get authorized?

To Comcast (if you read this): Please change this policy. There doesn't seem to be any good reason for it. It doesn't cost you anything. The box is programmed not to allow a non-compatible drive to be connected. All it does is annoy an otherwise happy customer. Thanks.

Well, my faithful Toshiba hard drive DVR is finally calling it quits. It'll record on the hard drive, but won't dub onto DVDs. So, I'm looking for a replacement.

The type of DVR with hard drive that I've used for years apparently isn't manufactured any more. I guess that means I have to get a DVR. So, here are my questions:

    1) Do I have to rent one from Comcast, which I guess replaces my old STB, or can I buy one from Best Buy and hook it up between my current STB and the TV, which is what I've done with the old Toshiba?

    2) I don't have a HD TV, and I don't plan on buying a HDTV until the old one dies (yes, I'm cheap). I don't need anything like a dual tuner DVR. Any suggestions as to what type of DVR is best for me?

    3) Can I dub onto a DVD from the Comcast DVR, as I used to do with my old Toshiba hard drive DVR?

    Thanks for any help.

DB:2.77:Need Some Help Re: Dvrs js

You can get a ReplayTV DVR for a reasonable price on eBay. If you hook it up between the STB and the TV, make sure they include the IR Blaster so the ReplayTV can change the channel on the STB. You can also do what I do and put a splitter on the cable, sending one branch to the STB and the other directly to the ReplayTV. The direct connection can be used to tune the analog channels below 100.

    Hello,

I have been dealing with an issue for a while now trying to get all 3 of my standalone X1 DVR's to see each others recordings. 2 of the DVR boxes can see each other and playback all recordings just fine. But the third DVR box in the back bedroom has never been able to playback recordings on the other 2 DVR boxes and viceversa because of some playback error message I always get. And I even had a Comcast tech come to the house twice to fix it. And both times they said it is notpossible to have 3 standalone X1 DVR boxes see each others recordings. They said if I wanted that type of set up I would need to have 1 standalone X1 DVR and 2companion boxes. I even told both techs that Comcast told me on the phone that you definitely can do it with 3 standalone X1 DVR boxes. But Both techsrefused to listen to me and said the Comcast person on the phone is wrong and each time both techs just left my house without fixing it. So today I finally tried to figure this out on my own so I took the third DVR box that has the issue to another room and to mysurprise all 3 DVR's boxes can not see each other and all recordings playback from all 3 DVR boxes. So I have just proved it can be done and both Comcast techs were wrong! So when I put any of the 3 DVR boxes in my back bedrooms the othe 2 DVR's can now see the DVR in the back bedroom and viceversa. So it seems there is something wrong with the wiring or perhaps asignal issue in the back bedrooms.

Now that I finally figured out the problem I am having a Comcast tech come out to the house tomorrow to fix this. Do any of you know exacty what could be causing this to happen and what the Comcast Tech willprobably do to fix it? I just really hope the Comcast tech tomorrow will not give me the same story and leave without fixing it like the last 2 techs did.

Installer came on time, replaced some existing cable under the house and grounding. I was told that my signal from the box on the street to my house is so weak, that itneeds to be replaced, which could take up totwo weeks of delayed service. I agreed to bad signal for two weeks. (I can see most of the channells internet service.

Month past by, received a bill, not a new cable. Service fee : $116.44 not $89.99, plus DVR $16.95 and install fee $50.50, not a $34.50 as on confirmation letter.

Calling customer service to get some answers, they made me feel stupid by trying to explain how to read my bill, when I asked if they can pull up my Comcast confirmation letter, they told me no and advised to go to local Comcast service store.

So I took my confirmation letter and new bill to Redmond office, they looked at that for a long time, told me never to order any Comcastservices online, that they can not find my confirmed pricingadd.

One of them suggested just to "give me something else and get done with me". I got additional Starz channel for 12month, with I don't need. My install bill was lowered to $34.50. The only service they could offer was Double Play for 99.99 (12 month),plus $16.95 DVR fee, no Streampix.

The service Rep. let me know that the best he can do and does not care ifI do have printed confirmation letter from Comcast.

Well, 3.5 month later, third party contractor came, put new cable from the street box to my house and 4 month later (from original installation date)it was still not connected to my TV and I paying alot more than I was promised in confirmation letter.

To me, it's not only about the money, but the time spended and how worthless Comcast service reps. make you feel.I guess, it is my own fault that I bellieved in false advertisement. Still FCC should have better regulations in place, not to allow companies who has absolute service monopoly, totally disregard consumers like us.

How much are themonthlyfees to rent a cable card? I thought I saw somewhere on their website or a post on the board that one card was free, it was $2.95 for each additional card. Are there any tuner cards using Cable Cards available yet? Well, any that are cost effective, i.e. less than $200, heck less than $400?

I have asked for help from comcast but it seems they will not help because they have their own dvr to sell and dont carry info for out of comcast equipment. It has to work somehow. Anyone out there?

Connect the cable to the cable in. Connect a cable from the "to tv/vcr" to your dvr/vcr combo. You can either run another cable from the dvr/vcr to the tv or connect to the tv using video/audio cables. There should bea connection diagram in the manual for the dvr/vcr box that describes the best setup for audio and video.

DB:2.75:Uverse And Comcast Tv And Internet Weekend Experiment c8

Including Friday, this weekend I had a chance to have both Uverse and Comcast TV and internet at the same time. I have my own router setup so switching between them for internet was easy. I thought I would share my experience. I am in Michigan.

Comcast - Preferred digital with HD DVR and 1 HD box, standard internet with cable modem router that includes wifi.

Uverse - U200 with HD DVR and 1 HD box, 24Mbps internet.

TV Picture Quality: Comcast easy win. Far less pixillation, in some cases channels like CBS looked so good on Comcast in comparison to Uverse that it really made me wonder if there is something wrong with Uverse's CBS connection.

Audio Quality: Uverse win. None of my Comcast boxes could do surround sound. Clarity of sound was good with both services so if surround sound isn't a big deal it would be a tie.

DVR functionality: Uverse easy win. If you've had Comcast sometime from 1995 on you should know it is the same terrible interface from 1995. It is faster than before, but that is the best thing I can say. Uverse DVR, scheduling shows, online access, playback, and menu system put Comcast to shame. Some key things to point out about Comcast's DVR:

The online access to your DVR would be great except that it barely works. I entered a number of shows to record on Comcast and some never were added to the DVR. Some shows I would specifically set to record new, record for 2 minutes after, record only this channel, and record in HD. When I refreshed the series recording list and it now says record new and repeat, ends recording on time, records any channel, and records in SD. On the DVR it would have some weird mix of those. The box they gave me (and I had no choice) can only record 2 things at a time, or 1 thing and live TV.The fast forward has 2 speeds: Stupidly slow and way too fast. They do have jump back feature that Uverse has so it goes back to where it thinks you wanted to stop but on Comcast it is completely random.I know I said the interface was terrible, but I need to say again the DVR system is embarrassingly bad. I don't understand how they've managed to make it this long with such an awful interface. Now I know why people buy Tivos.Comcast DVR seems to have no idea what is new and what isn't. At one point it scheduled 4 episodes on one day when the setting was set to new shows only. Worse: it set to record the same exact episode twice because it couldn't tell it already recorded it.
On Demand: Comcast has way more content, but Uverse has a better interface. Comcast plays ads during regular commercial breaks with on demand shows and they are often exactly the same. I think I saw an ad for Finding Mr. Banks about 50 times this weekend. Yes you can fast forward but it is even worse than the regular DVR fast forward. It will sometimes stop fast forwarding at the end of a commercial and sometimes it goes so fast you end up 4-5 minutes into the show you are watching.

Remotes: Comcast still has those terrible huge silver things from 1995. Uverse easy win. There is also no step forward capability that I could find like the Uverse remote.

Channels: Comcast win. Uverse has a similar channel line up, but Comcast edges it out with more channels being in HD and more support for sub digital channels. In my area I can't get CW on Uverse at all, and a some channels like Independent Film are in SD only. Comcast has nearly all channels in HD including even the Canadian channel they randomly have added to our lineup. Uverse has no excuse here in my opinion.

2nd Box Experience: Uverse win. The bedroom Comcast box has no idea that there is a DVR in the house let alone another box. There is no pause in one room continue in the next or view your DVR content in the bedroom.

Internet Speed: Comcast win (but see below). If you are talking pure download speed (and I am not talking speed test websites, I am talking sustained large file transfer) Comcast wins. I was getting 32Mbps with their standard internet package. Uverse is capped at 24 and I am paying a lot for that.

Streaming Video (Netflix/AppleTV/etc): Uverse win, and a big one. I was surprised to find that while Comcast can sustain 32Mbps they either purposely hinder or have problems with streaming services. My tests were done by switching services within the same 10 minute period with the same video. Netflix TV shows on Comcast would start at lowest quality, briefly peak at 720p, then hold steady at 480p. AppleTV rented movies would frequently stop playback as it tried to catch up on play back. Comcast could never get to SuperHD quality, in fact I was lucky to get 720p. Switching the internet connection to Uverse all of a sudden TV shows stayed at 720p, movies stayed at SuperHD, Apple TV easily downloaded the whole move rental well before it needed to play it. This, for me, was one of the biggest deciding factors and one that puzzled me. I suspect Comcast is giving lower priority to competitor streaming services, but maybe it is innocent and just a bottle neck somewhere else.

Internet Gateway: Uverse win. The Comcast internet gateway does not let you turn off wireless. This bugs me enough to appoint Uverse the winner.

Lights on Boxes: Comcast win. Seriously someone needs to stop putting LEDs in Uverse boxes that are stupidly bright.

Conclusion: Comcast equipment went back to the Comcast store. The first killer feature Uverse has is the DVR and interface. They put Comcast to shame in user friendliness, features, and visual appeal. The streaming video internet problems Comcast had were a deal breaker. Once I figured that out I was not keeping Comcast internet. After struggling with their terrible DVR I wasn't keeping Comcast TV.

Note: Yes I know Comcast has the X1 platform which is supposed to be amazing. But they don't have it in my area. Also for X1 you have to have voice, internet, and TV with 2 premium channels, and the sports package to get it even if it was available.

Did you have any problem with Comcast freezing at all? That was one of the main reasons I switched to U-Verse, although that was three years ago. Still, I am not that convinced that Comcast fixed the underlying problem, which I am pretty sure is frequency sharing.

Then again, do you know if you live somewhere where Comcast uses Switched Digital Video?

Comcast TV did not freeze at all when I was watching, but channel changes were pretty slow. In my area we do not have switched digital video.

    Hi everyone -

We are moving to San Francisco and are deciding what service to get for Internet and phone. Using iChat video is important to us, so we need to make sure whatever we get is compatible with that.

I know Vonage has a port conflict with iChat video. Does anyone happen to know if Comcast Digital Voice has the same conflict? I heard something about Comcast doing packet-shaping (whatever that is) which might cause an iChat video conflict with or without voice. Any insight here is appreciated. The triple play seems like the best option if there is no conflict.

Incidentally, though this isn't an Apple question, we also have an old Tivo Series 1 DVR if anyone knows whether Comcast Digital Voice can be used for the outgoing phone calls.

    Thanks in advance.

There are two issues that I can see with the listings:

    1. Bunheads is a one hour show but the listings have the show starting almost every half hour. So there are overlapped listings.

    2. Only the 9pm show is marked as NEW - which is correct. However, the online DVR listings for my Comcast DVR has all the shows being recorded starting at 11am. That's 9 times in one day. The series recording parameters are for new shows only.

For a stand alone DVR, the DCX3400 would be current. They came with either a 250GB or 320GB drive.

Some subscribers with stand alone DVR's end up with the AnyRoom DVR models. These are DCX3400M or DCX3501 also marked as a Motorola RNG200N. These have 500GB drives.

If you go to the local Comcast office ask for the "black DVR" and bring the old remote with.

    Your DCH3416 has a 160GB drive.

DB:2.73:Tired Of Dvr Software Issues, And Comcast Reps Rudeness c1

Hello,I'm just about ready to leave Comcast/XFinity.The way Comcast/Xfinity rolled out the new DVR software was abysmal. No warning. Change it, destroying recorded shows, and dsettings, and the parental controls, too. Then change it back to the old good software, destroying the newly reset parental controls again. Comcast Customer Service Reps denied to me that any such thing just happened. And then Comcast change it again, destroying the recorded shows, and settings, and the parental controls, yet again. And the CSR's, at first, still denied that this was occurring.Comcast, does denying problems exist work with most of your customers? If so, then goodbye. If not, then why is it such a common occurrence? Many things I can get used to, even those parts of the new DVR software that are poorly done, as long as it works. Even if they aren't as well done as we've had for years. (Why lower us all to the worst software, instead of raising everyone to the best?) But, basic functions that don't work right, and get worse, (while still being denied by the CSR's), are very nearly the last straw for me.The Pause function does not work, and is getting worse. Pause doesn't actually pause. I'm not sure what it is doing, but the screen keeps changing. And now, it won't even stay paused. I paused the local news right before the weather came on, for about 10 minutes, and when I came back, the TV was playing the next show on the same channel. Nor could I rewind to go back to where I had tried to leave it. I paused the TV again, while I called Comcast, and it did it again right in front of me. Unpaused without anyone touching the remote or the set top box. When I try to complain about it, half of the customer service reps are either nice, but ignorant (as in, kept in the dark), and the other half are rudely insulting, but still just has ignorant. (Perhaps the second group is resentful that Comcast has left them, unsupported, receiving all of the complaints of Comcast's indefensible actions.) The new DVR software must be someone's sacred cow, because when I try to complain that the Pause function doesn't work, I'm told that 99% of the customers want it that way.I've been told to replace my box 3 times in the last year, twice since the XFinity Downgrade. Replacing the hardware for every software complaint is useless, unnecessarily expensive, and doesn't fix a darn thing.

No businessperson, in their right mind, would've chosen the worst product to force customers to switch to. That means that either the person whose chose this new DVR software was not in their right mind, and the decision should therefore be reversed. Or, that the businessperson who did choose to impose the worst, must've had some other motive. It might be worth examining who might've profited from this choice. (Sorry for the blatent cynicism, but it makes a lot of sense, especially given Comcast's obstenant stubbornness that imposing the wost software is an "upgrade"

I've tried calling (a lot!), I've tried emailing, I've tried the Feedback page, now I'll try posting here. What does it take to get Comcast to take a problem report seriously? This is Comcast's last chance to keep me as a customer. I've been with Comcast for years and years, and seen Comcast go downhill to a really embarrassing degree. Embarrassing for Comcast to be getting worse instead of better, and it's becoming too embarrassing for me to be a customer.Comcast, please have someone contact me who can actually help, or I'll be calling to say goodbye soon.

DB:2.73:Dvr Manager Not Finding My Dvr After Bundle Upgrade mj

We upgraded from the Starter XF bundle to the Preferred XF Bundle last night. After the upgrade our DVR service was disabled as was the HD service. I calld Comcast to find out what happened and after talking to 5 techs to no avail and scheduling a trouble call I finally called sales back and it seems the person who upgraded the package didn't include HD/DVR service. So, she fixed that. Now I have my DVR working and my HD channels but my DVR Manager is no longer working. It worked perfectly fine before the upgrade. Now I am getting this message. "DVR Manager is available in your area. However, we are unable to detect a compatible DVR in your household." It is so VERY frustrating that almost every time you make a change with Comcast you practically have to start from the beginning because other things get messed up. Any ideas on how to get my DVR manager working again? I really don't want to be on hold for another tech support person in another country who is reading from a script and has no clue what DVR manager even is.

    Thanks!

DB:2.73:Dvr Manager Not Finding My Dvr After Bundle Upgrade mj

Thank you very much. A few months back the DVR manager had stopped working after being fine for months. It took 4 different techs out here and many phone calls and I was really dreading having to go through all that again. One tech had even called a level above him and he was on speaker and the level above him didn't even know what the DVR manager was. So, I really appreciate your replies.

Does anyone know where the photo eye is located on the front of the box?

You would need a Comcast digital box to get On Demand. You can record lots of PBS shows with a DVR, though.

DVR Manager is available in my area (southern Vermont), according to Comcast, but my DVR, according to Comcast tech support, does not support DVR manager. It's a Cisco DVR. Has anyone else experienced or solved this problem?

Two emails to Comcast on this subject have not been answered.

    thanks

    DB:2.70:Dvr Manager mf

Only recently the DVR manager is availabe to selectCisco area's. Right now it is only available if you order the AnyRoom DVR option.

Stand alone DVR's will get the upgrade by the end of the year in most areas. Comcast will notify you of the new guide 2.0 upgrade. Once you have the guide 2.0 installed on your DVR, then you know it will be very soon that the DVR manager will be available to you.

Until guide 2.0 is installed in your area and on your equipment, it is not yet available.

You can contact Comcast about ordering the AnyRoom DVR, and you most likely get it when that installation takes place.

Is Comcast going to do anything about the ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS Comcast/Motorola DVR when xfinity rolls out?

I was a very happy TIVO user for years, then I moved into Comcast territory where I decided to try the Comcast DVR. What an complete pile of junk! I'm about to throw it out the window. I'm trying to decide if I should ditch Comcast and move to ATT U-Verse which has just become available, or if I should struggle with the going back to TIVO with the 2-cable cards and loss of ON DEMAND.

If I wait for Xfinity this month will I get improved DVR service (i.e. something real, something that works, something that doesn't forget, something that can really find programs, something that I can really program to record what I want, something like a TIVO)?

Now that Comcast has changed to all Digital signals my WMC won't work. Before anyone suggests some jerry rigged system of multiple ir blasters there is another thing you should know. Even if this conveluded system would work to switch my stations for recordings,
there is a plan by Comcast to begin scrambling all the tv stations in the fall.
So what I would like is for Microsoft to acknowledge that Comcast has engaged in a campaign to stop WMC and take it's business away. And as of yet, Microsoft has no answer for this attack on our software.
    Its that simple.

DB:2.70:Comcast Attacks Windows Media Center Dvr Function jd

Update: comcast gives nothing for free!!!! They do charge for the DTA's.
By going Digital Comcast opened up a new source of income by being able to charge its
Basic cable customers and customers who had more then one connection and no cable box
for a DTA. Check Comcast line up and in the HD you will see lots of Duplciate channels.
Not much saving of bandwidth there. Note to everyone: Watch your Comcast bill for
    unauthorized charges.

I've run into a weird problem here.

In addition to my DirecTV HD service (H23 receiver) I've also been set up with Comcast HD Digital Cable with a DVR. For some reason, my Comcast DVR remote control is affecting my DirecTV satellite box. In other words, when I change channels using the Comcast remote on the Comcast DVR, or hit menu on the Comcast DVR remote, or program, etc. etc., when I switch back to the DirecTV box, it's all been changed as well. The DirecTV remote has no effect on the Comcast box, but vice versa. Apparently the default code on my Comcast DVR is the same code as the DirecTV box. Any ideas on how to change this so that the Comcast DVR remote has no effect on the DirecTV box? I haven't found any DirecTV AUX codes that would work with cable boxes.

    Hi,

I just scheduled a win it back install to switch over from DTV. The newest DTV boxes and software are some of the best I've seen and I'm slightly nervous that the Xfinity equipment will be a bit of a downgrade.

My question is, what is the newest and best HD DVR that Comcast is offering right now? My install is scheduled for next Thursday (5/10/12), and I have half a mind to cancel it if the tech shows up with anything but Comcast's "latest and greatest".

Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

This is the message I'm getting:DVR Manager is available in your area. I had a technician this morning to install the phone line, even him had no idea what DVR Manager was... I guess comcast has to train their employee better, and keep them updated with the products they offer.

Is there anything I can do to make sure comcast detects my compatible DVR?

Very dissatisfied with the fact that Comcast misrepresented their ANY room DVR service to me. I had 3 DVR boxes in my home and I was told that it would be a better option for me to switch to the any room DVR. I switched my service only to discover that the DVR functions are only on the main box in my living room and basically all the other boxes are worthless. I am so upset!! Very sad when The Dish is making Comcast look like a JOKE!! Maybe they should worry about making sure the ANY room DVR at least has basic function's before adding all the useless nonsense!! The thought that I can download shows and take them on the go sounds nice at first, but who really has the time to sit and watch a show on your phone or tablet on the go on a NORMAL day. yes the functionality is nice for traveling, but I could live without it!! I can't live without the basic functions of my DVR that I was never informed I would be losing. Even bigger disappointment is that when I called to complain the day after instillation I was told that there is an update coming but they have no idea of when! WHAT A JOKE!! GET IT TOGETHER COMCAST!!

DB:2.70:Any Room Dvr Really A One Room Dvr d3

Lin, sorry but there's no update coming to change the functionality of the terminal, it's how they are made. A workaround is to record what you're watching and access through the recordings. FWIW I do this in my own free time to help customers like you.

    DB:2.70:Widescreen ax

The Comcast homepage is a fixed width, measured in pixels. There's nothing you can do to make it fill your monitor, other than setting your screen resolution fairly low. Doing that, of course, makes having a widescreen monitor sort of pointless. But, you can certainly try different screen resolutions, and stick with whatever looks best to you. The monitor will remain at whatever resolution you set it to - there's no "save" required.
