If the local office isn't too far out of the way, you might want to stop by and ask. Tech visit vs self-install varies by market, and the information that the telephone reps provide about cablecards isn't always up to date. In this post for example, a customer reports that the phone reps told him cablecards had to be installed by a tech, but his local office gave him a card to self-install. YMMV. Good luck!

TiVo has an additional up-front charge of about $300 for their DVR, and a charge from the cable company to install a cable card in the TiVo DVR.PERFORMANCE:-----------------1. Both TiVo and Comcast DVRs display the exact same channels.2. Quality of the TiVo DVR picture quality may be higher (myth?).3. Quality of the TiVo user interface (channel guide, programming procedure) is better/easier.4. As a Netflix subscriber, I can use TiVo to stream movies from Netflix, but cannot with Comcast DVR.5. I can use either the TiVo or the Comcast DVR's with my existing analog (tube) TV or my imaginary new digital TV.Additions or corrections, anyone? Thanks,Teffy

DB:3.17:Tivo Dvr Versus Comcast Dvr zp

I was the very first person in a 50 mile radius to get the Tivo software on my Comcast/Motorola DVR box about a year ago. In fact it was so new that I had the direct phone number of an engineer to work with as we progressed through the install.

A few things I experienced, before I backed it out (again, however, this was about a year ago):

    - The performance was horrific. The 'Tivo software on Tivo hardware' is the premium experience. Trying to run/port the Tivo software over to the Motorola DVR seemed awkward, and it turned out to be that way. Channel switching took "forever", as did other standard activities (like the deletion of watched content).

    - Although I despise the existing Motorola DVR's interface with great passion, the drag on the performance outweighed the usability of the Tivo software/interface by a long shot.

    - Paying an additional fee, over and above what I was already paying for the standard Motorola DVR fees, seemed excessive. Especially (and to sound like a broken record) since the performance was so bad.

    - None of the really advanced features of (at the time) 'modern' Tivo units seem to be available. No online programming, no unit-to-unit sharing, etc.

    - You couldn't have the Tivo software on just a single unit in your house. It was the "whole house or no house" (as I have multiple DVRs).

Maybe the unit's improved 10x in quality, performance, etc. since then but I'm extremely hesitant to try that experiment again.

I am a Direct TV customer and will be contract free next month. Presently we are also comcast cable internet customers. My call to inquire about comcast tv and X1 took me to the Mexico City call center. I am interested in the digital preferred double play with X1 and two extra tv hook ups (1 HD and 1 basic) and NO CONTRACT. No problem I was told. $99 for the first 12 months, plus $10 for the X1 dvr, plus $9 for the HD set top and $2 for the basic.

OK fine. I went to the local comcast office to verify the equipment availibility and compatability. Four years ago we moved and brought our state of the art DVR with us. It was brand new, latest and greatest, and very hard to get. It didn't work at our new house and this same office informed me that I would have to surrender our new dvr and accept a very old beater DVR instead. We gave up and went to directv immediately. Now, four years later, same comcast office, I was greeted with the same rudeness and horrible customer service that drove me to drop comcast and go to direct tv. It could very well be the same customer service person. Prior to moving, we were Comcast internet and tv customers for 14 years with a perfect payment history.

The customer service person at the local Comcast office was extreemely rude and beligerant when she contradicted everything that I was told by the comcast call center. She insisted that I would have to get the triple play package with a two year contract if I wanted an X1. Unable to find a number and get through to Comcast corporate, I got detoured back to the Meico City call center where I once again reviewed and reconfirmed the details above.

Reports from Comcast Voices say that the state of CT won't be finished until AUGUST and this was supposed to be done in the spring. Comcast George has stated many times that all the SA boxes were supposed to be finished by the end of 2010. It's taken Comcast 3 months(they started in June) to just finish the state of CT, so there's no way that all upgrades will be finished in 2010. This is supported by Comcast Voices where a subtle change from "all" to "most" has inserted into some of the latest reports about the SA upgrades.

Paying the same as Motorola DVR owners and getting a vastly inferior product is really getting old and I got my latest bill increase tonight. And the beat goes on.

Bryan - sorry for the delay in responding.

Our goal is to deliver a fairly consistent and user-friendly on-screen guide experience across the national Comcast footprint.

We don’t yet have schedule for the new guide beyond CT that we can share just yet. We are targeted to bring this new guide experience to most all of our SA sites this year. A specific date will be directly communicated once we get closer to the time for your area.

The first phase of the new guide for our SA areas is the path to get to Caller ID, remote DVR scheduling and other advanced features. These specific features are targeted for a future guide release. Once we get this initial guide deployed in 2010, the additional improvements and new features for our SA areas will be able to be delivered a lot faster.

There are a large variety of cable boxes available at your location, including the SA 8300. The Cisco RNG 200 is also available in many SA locations.

You should start to see signs of the Comcast digital migration for your area occurring in the fall - that will lead to additional On Demand choices, additional HD channels, faster internet speeds and an improved experience. Comcast office said all they had was refurbished boxes. I took an old
refurbished box home and immediately had problems connecting the box. After
several hours trying to get the box to give me a picture and calls to Comcast I
found out that the video cable Comcast gave me was a bad cable with the Blue
and Green cables reversed. Once I got that fixed I had problem with the DVR working. The DVR would not
record programs scheduled for the future and it would reset itself wiping out
any shows I recorded. This went on for a few days and after several calls to
Comcast I had a service technician come out to look at my box. I was told that
all comcast had was refurbished boxes and that if they gave me another box it
may have worse problems. I said I would keep what I had and see if it improved.
I continued to have problems so I called Comcast again and told them I wanted a
new DVR and again I was told that Comcast does not have new equipment and all
they have are refurbished boxes. I have another repair call scheduled for
tomorrow and supposedly I will get a working DVR but it will be refurbished.

My question is, Why doesn't Comcast provide new products to
its customers when they sign up for Comcast service? Why do I have to suffer
with refurbished equipment that does not work and cables that are miswired? Why
do I have to pay for a service and have to have nothing but problems and have to
make repeated calls and get used equipment? I want a new HD DVR that works
correctly and I want someone from Comcast senior management to contact me and
promise that they will supply the service that I am paying a lot of money each

It's time for Verizon to improve their technology to allow it's customers to watch their DVR'd programs on their mobile devices like Comcast and Dish (and maybe DirecTV) do. I'm generally satisfied with Verizon's services, but it they don't have this capability by the time my contract is up, I'll definitely be switching to a service that allows me to watch my DVR'd programs online and on my mobile device.

Also, Comcast now offers the ability to download DVR programs to mobile devices/tablets so that you can watch your DVR'd programs even when you don't have wifi connection. This would make my flights much more enjoyable!

    Thanks.

I have been with Comcast for 3 days, 3 LONG DAYS! The DVR Manager is not functioning as I was told it would. I was told to wait 24-48 hours, done. Still no joy. I have been on the phone with Comcast for over 3 hours today being sent from one department to the next. I had a rep finally tell me to go to the nearest store and exchange the DVR that was installed on FRIDAY because it is an older model not compatiable with DVR Manager! uhm what? You installed an old out of date DVR in a brand new customers home? What a way to win friends and influence people!!!

So I went to the store, it is closed. No sign showing business hours, no notice that it is closed for MLK Day, no nothing. Over a dozen people came by looking for the store, we all stood there and called Comcast, no one at Comcast could give us any answers about that store. We were all told to go to another store, but they could not tell us if they are open.

I am again on hold, now waiting on billing to secure a credit and find out when I can get a current box that will give me the service I am paying for. I miss Dish Network! Unfortunately the only internet provider in my area other then Clear, is Comcast. And so far, Comcast has underwhelmed me with their horrible customer service. I wish I could have a monopoly in an area so that I could give horrible service with no consequences.

DB:2.91:New Digital Cable Box Requirement k1

I am extremely unhappy about Comcast's decision to require customers to pay a monthly fee for digital cable boxes in order to receive the channels they are already paying for. That's extortion. The FTC has already said cable companies cannot charge for extra cable boxes, sincethe customer is paying for the service. Here, the bulk of the channels I'm paying for will be unavailable to me, unless I also pay an extra monthly fee for this box on top ofthe fee for thecable service itself. Prismor Dish or DirectTv will give me multiple boxeswith DVR for free.

I have absolutely no incentive to stay with Comcast now. My monthly fee already fluctuates anywhere from $140-$170on Comcast's whim, despite me making no changes to my service. They outsource customer service. When my cable was installed, my father had to go up in the attic to do the installation, because the tech didn't want to do his job. The last time a tech came to my house, he didn't change my faulty cable/DVR box for a new one, and didn't fix the problem I was having. If Comcast wants to stay in business, they should be giving customers reasons to stay customers, not doing everything they can think of to drive customers away. I will be filing a complaint with the FTC regarding this digital boxissue, and I urge all other customers to do so as well.

DB:2.91:New Digital Cable Box Requirement k1

Comcast should have notified you months ago if additional equipment is needed, you can call to confirm.

If these are digital TV's, do a re-scan of all channels with the TV's menu, the channels might have just moved around, which is common without notification.

On-Screen Guide 2.0 includes DVR Manager, Caller ID to the TV and many other new features. More info here: http://www.xfinity.com/onscreenguide2

After having to reboot the Cisco DVR 3 times in 2 days, I called Comcast who decided I needed a new Motorola DVR and set up a service call for this morning. Tech called this morning so I verified he had that DVR. He did not, but said he would swap it out with a different Cisco DVR (RGN200-silver to a RGN200N-black) So after the swap and getting things up and running, I was checking to see if things worked. Got an error when trying VOD, so went to regular channels. After a few minutes, picture flashed. Once, twice, three times...so we tried another channel. Did the same thing. So he told me he had a SA box on the truck that we could try, but I decided to have the original DVR hooked back up since I know what to expect from it. I sent several e-mails to Rick Germano (go to xfinity on facebook/customer service and send him an email) and have called the regional guy (Bill Evans)who handles SW Florida. I also called Comcast to get a credit on my bill. They do not offer to credit your account, you have to ASK for it. (nicely, of course).

The tech that came out said he spends his day trying to find working boxes to satisfy customer calls. It is mainly a software issue which means waiting for the fix that is suppose to be coming soon...meanwhile, I keep calling and asking for a credit every time it isn't working.

Oh, and when Comcast had its reps tell people "the FCC forced us to switch to digital", that took real balls. The only thing the FCC said had to change was OTA (rabbit ears). Not cable, not satellite. Another flat out lie to force customers into more expensive digital equipment.

    Dear Comcast,

On Feb.9,2010 I noticed the message indicator on my dvr.

I decided to check the message and here is what it said:

    NEW GUIDE UPDATE

    New Features of Your Guide

The On-Screen Guide has new features: HD customers will love the "Watch in HD" button and DVR customers will get added benefits like Auto-Correction. For details go to www.comcast.net/newguide.

Being a curious person, I went to the website. And sure enough, there was a page devoted to the new guide.

Unfortunately, I have not seen the new guide on my tv. And knowing how Comcast is about announcing wonderful new things and then taking years to get them implemented and rolled out, I really don't expect to see it anytime soon. Why are you informing me of something that I won't get in a reasonable amount of time after you send me the message? This borders on false advertising-promising something that you can't/won't deliver.

Therefore I am requesting that you NOThawkthese things to me when you have no intention of giving them to me. WHEN/IF you, in your infinite wisdom, decide to make the guide and myDVR Manager available to me, THEN you can contact me to let me know they are available.

Comcast employees must be authorized to post in the forum in an official capacity. Employees posting here have their names in red and are designated as employees. Names not in red are customers.

This is done to protect customers and for assurance that they are dealing with a Comcast employee.Non-Authorized Employees are allowed to post but cannot state they are employees nor can they allude to being employees.

DB:2.86:My Response To A Message On My Dvr (About The New Guide) sp

Also, the auto-correction feature is horrible, skips to far ahead or back, there should be a option to turn it off. I dont even know how comcast releases this stuff without proper testing, I have yet to find one person who likes this feature. Of course when you call customer service they dont understand the new feature and they tell you to bring in your DVR for a new one. They sure make it easy for people that want to switch to a new cable company.

For the self install kit, they were supposed to send me a DVR, but they sent a remote DVR instead. Today the tech came out and swapped it with an actual DVR and found that the DVR service wasn't even added to my account. In the two calls I placed to comcast support, each lasting about two hours, how could they miss that, especially when it's the service they were attempting to help me with? I even told the support tech on the phone that I didn't think my box was a DVR, but he insisted that it was! A LITTLE TRAINING FOR YOUR PHONE TECHS AND A LITTLE LESS SCRIPT READING WOULD CUT COSTS BY REDUCING THE TIME EACH CALL TAKES AND GIVE YOUR CUSTOMERS A LITTLE CONFIDENCE IN YOUR SERVICE SUPPORT!PULL YOUR HEAD OUT COMCAST!!!

I am wondering when DVR manager will be available in Charlottesville, VA. It was supposed to be available by the end of December 2012. It's now mid April 2013 - still no dvr manager in this area. Can Comcast keep it's customers updated as when it will be available with an ACCURATE date or for christs sakes remove the freaking ads on their website for features that haven't been available for quite some time?

Also for some reason my remote has NEVER worked for my Sylvania flat screen tv. I need both my tv remote to control turning my tv on and off and I have spoken to Sylvania, and comcast and each point the finger at each other for why the comcast remote isn't compatible with this particular tv. I have searched comcast support and neither of these issues have resolutions.

Why doesn't comcast do a better job of resolving these basic issues for a fairly expensive service subscription?

I've been a very happy user of a TiVo Series 2 box with my non-digital Comcast service for years. With the recent upgrade to digital in my area, I continued to use the TiVo box with its own Comcast DTA. Works great.

Now I'm upgrading my TV to HDTV and will upgrade Comcast to HD service. I got a free TiVo Premiere box when I bought the TV.

    Which is better?

    1. TiVo Premiere + Comcast cable card

    2. Comcast HD DVR (no TiVo)

I'm paying $12.95/month for TiVo now; not sure about the monthly fee for the Premiere box. I think the combo of the Comcast HD service including DVR is just a few dollars more than the TiVo fee.

What TiVo features will I miss if I use only the Comcast DVR?

DB:2.83:Trying To Choose: Tivo Premiere Vs. Comcast Dvr f7

See this site for comparisons. I have a TiVo HD as well as a Comcast DVR, and prefer TiVo by far. The only thing you'll not get with the TiVo is On Demand, and with the expandiblity of the TiVo I seldom use that feature since I can record anything I anticipate viewing later.

I thought comcast was offering something with adding Rhapsody. But its the free version with only Lo Fi Radio with most of the stations only offered in the 9.95 package. You can only listen to 30 second clips of albums. Comcast Rhapsody program only installs an application that is basically nothing less then a big ad to buy subcription. If this is comcasts idea to offer more content to support their price structure then that is not working. Comcast Rhasody offers comcasts HSI customers nothing.. Zero. It is no different then going directly to Rhasody.com and just paying for the service. Without paying the 9.95 the service is basically worthless. You may not think about the On-Screen Program Guide every day (the interface that connects you, via your remote control, to all the channels and On Demand programming you enjoy) and that’s ok because I do (along with a team of people here at Comcast).

When you do share your opinions and ideas – through direct feedback, blog posts, forums and research – my colleagues and I gather all that information and work it into our planning and design of upgrades and new Guides.

We heard loud and clear from customers that live in what we call Scientific Atlanta/Cisco (or SA) markets (that’s you, if you have a cable box with Scientific-Atlanta or Cisco logo on the front panel) that you want your Guide to have more shortcuts, load On Demand faster, and have a user-friendly interface.

We listened (and continue to listen). Customers in several states (CT, LA, GA, MN, TX, and NM) withSA and Cisco equipmenthave already started to receive the addition of several new features.

The new features are being launched on a rolling basis, market by market and will continue into 2013. Once I haveupdated and confirmed schedules for the next areas I will be able to post that information in this thread.

So, what’s new? For starters, DVR Manager, Caller ID to the TV and full use of the XFINITY TV app.

Details on these and some other new features are below:

DVR Manager: From the internet and the Xfinity TV app, customers can: set recordings, view/modify scheduled recordings, view completed recordings, modify series priority lists, etc.

Caller ID to the TV See who's calling, right from your TV and PC! Comcast Universal Caller ID takes the guesswork out of incoming calls. http://www.comcast.net/callerid

Xfinity TV Application: The ability to use your iPad to change channels.

HSN Shop-by-Remote: A convenient, new way to make HSN purchases simply by using your remote.

Request for Info: Know more, save more! Introducing an easy way to request valuable coupons and info from advertisers simply by using your remote.http://xfinity.comcast.net/newguide/iTV_RFI_0113.pdf

Ready Remind and Ready Record: Now you can conveniently set program reminders or recordings directly from certain TV show and movie advertisements.

We really enjoy the convenience of watching shows on our schedule, but there does come a point where convenience and the old checkbook don't quite agree. Will be contacting Comcast when our contract is up in June to switch up to a better, less expensive plan. Obviously Verizon does not feel much loyalty to their long time customers, and as such the feeling is mutual. Verizon wireless is also going to add a $30 fee to current customers who want to upgrade their phone with a 2 yr. contract. Isn't the 2 year contract enough? Really, Verizon?

We are scheduled to have this guide available in another market before the start of the summer. You should be hearing some official announcements about that location very soon.

In some areas (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas, Minnesota and New Mexico), we plan to deliver On-Screen Guide 2.0 http://www.xfinity.com/onscreenguide2 this year to the Cisco RNG series (RNG 100, 150 and 200) of cable boxes.

The long term plan is to get all of our newest cable boxes (regardless of hardware manufacturer or geography) onto a common guide starting in 2013 to provide a more consistent experience.

We don't currently have plans for On-Screen Guide 2.0 or 3.0in Indiana in 2012.

    Hi,

I thought I posted this earlier this month or late last month but don't seem to be able to find it now to see if any replies were posted.

I have a SA HD DVR. I want to record the three variants of Masterpiece Theater (Classic, Mystery, Contemporary). My questions are:

1)Do I need to search for each variant on the channel and date/time they appear

This approach is quite clumsy because you need to find the specific show within the

DVR date range which I think is 2 weeks.

    2) Can I somehow (not obvious from the menu interface) make the DVR record Masterpiece

Theater and it will pick up a 3 variants?

Can the DVR interface allow generic show name selections - ie Masterpiece Theater*

where the asterisk (*) is a wildcard?

    3) Or is there some web-based browser interface (on Comcat.com or Comcast.net) where I can

set my DVR to record these3 variants? Can I even tell my DVR, via web-based interface

    to even record shows?

    This would be ideal.

And finally, what happened to the purported TiVo interface Comcast DVRs were supposed to get?

    Thanks

    Craig Dudley

DB:2.81:How Do I Set My Dvr To Record Various Masterpiece Theater Variants? mc

You can use the search function in the main menu.

Unfortunately, you can only use the first 5 letters of the show title. But you can find Masterpiece Theater this way.

After you use search and navigate to the title, click on info.

A list will open, with date, time and channel.

You can use this list to set up your recordings.

When you get to the last entry, use the arrow to scroll to View upcoming times for this title.

Click OK. If it comes on at other times, another list will open.

If you have the new guide version, you can go into My DVR /Search and Record/Search by Title and do the same thing. Using this function of the new version allows you to enter more letters of the title.

Will be swapping out OLD SA 8300 DVR and RNG 150 for NEW X1 DVR and X1 HD Outlet... I wanted to know what I should do in advance to make the install smoother. Do I make the changes or will my account automatically update (had lots of trouble getting the DVR manager to work originally, don't want to go through that again.) Thanks!

First post - sorry if it's in the wrong forum.I'm a Comcast subscriber and have 3 DVR's - SA Explorer 8300HD's. On the rear of the DVR's is a port labeled external SATA for the use of an external hard drive. Comcast tells me the port is active but not supported. I would like to get an external hard drive to increase my recording capability but am not sure what type of port this is. It will not accept a USB connection which is what I use on myexternal hard drives connected to my desktop computers.Anyone have an idea what type of connection this is and what type of eSATA drives are recommended for this type of recording? Thanks for any help.

There may be others which will work, but I know that one will. I have one working with a TiVo HD. Here's a quotation from the product description:

"Instantly add up to 60 hours of high-definition TV or up to 300 hours of standard-definition TV to your Scientific Atlanta 8300 or 8300HD DVR. You'll have plenty of room to save your programs longer and never miss your favorite shows.Just plug My DVR Expander into the external SATA (eSATA) port on your Scientific Atlanta 8300 series DVR and start recording even more TV shows, sporting events and movies. My DVR Expander has been tested for compatibility with Scientific Atlanta 8300 series DVRs. The unique no-fan passive cooling system and special hard drive design make it quiet for the living room or bedroom. Designed with a soft amber LED indicator, My DVR Expander is ideal for the living room or bedrooms."

    Netplex,

One of the interesting things in life, at least to me, is how we all have such different views on things. I respect your preference, I just have no interest in it myself. But maybe Verizon will step up and provide both functions, and then both of us will be happy (but then again, others will come up with other choices, and they won't be happy until Verizon provides those....).

Anyway, it works the way I like it

DB:2.79:No Hdmi Signal On My Sa Explorer 8300hd ak

I'm in Houston. I've got an SA 8300HD DVR that Comast issued me many years ago. I've been using the RGB component output and was using a splitter to send the signal to a Vizio LCD and an InFocus projector. I used the HDMI input on the project to connect to a blu-ray player. I recently replaced my projector with an Epson that has two HDMI inputs so I thought I would try to connect my DVR to it via HDMI. But I cannot get the DVR to output an HDMI signal at all.

I tried connecting to the TV and then to the projector using different HDMI cables but they always show no signal on the HDMI input. I figured that maybe the DVR cannot output both RGB and HDMI at the same time so I disconnected everything but the HDMI. Still nothing. Powered the DVR completely off and rebooted. Same for the TV and projector. Still nothing. If I hook a yellow composite cable to the TV I can see the User Settings menu when I press the Guide button in the off state. It shows TV Type = 16:9, HDMI/YPbPr Output = 1080i. When powered on, the from panel shows 1080i. I see nothing in the DVR menu about HDMI output other than enabling sound. Is there some trick to getting HDMI output or is my DVR just broken?

I noticed a friend of mine has a Cisco RNG200 DVR from Comcast. Should I return my SA 8300HD and replace it with that one? Will it support RGB Component and HDMI at the same time? If not, will it at least do S-Video and HDMI at the same time?

I've been a Comcast customer for years with both internet and basic TV using my own tuners and DVR I built. All this has been working fine, where there have been issues, I have fixed them. Now, by encrypting the basic channels, Comcast has rendered my tuners and DVR useless.

I will be going to buy an antenna today so that I can tune in channels over the air and will be dumping Comcast. Their plan to extort more money out of customers may work for some but I've had enough of paying too much for far too long.

I was going to try this but since very few people any more can get this to work I gave on this approach.

I was unhappy when my $150 TV tuner on my PC was killed by lightning back in 2011. When I looked for a replacement I realized that I would have to consider that cable TV was going digital. There were digial QAM tuners that could tune digial cable channels but since they only tuned unencryped channels I knew they would be obsolete at some point. I ended up getting a Hauppauge WinTV-DCR-2650. It uses a cable card so it unscrambles all the channels I am entitled to get. There are better tuners than this but this has been enough for me. I have been using this with Windows Media Center in Windows 7 since January 2012. In fact I am watching TV with it right now.

First I want to commend Renato, phone customer svc, for excellent svc today.

I am really surprised that those who have the "triple three" packageare no longer have the flexibility choosing our movie channels. I understand that Starz is no longer an elective movie station it comes with the package. Suppose I do not want Starz but another movie channels will I be penalized? Perhaps the problem was when I got your DVR instead of the regular digital box because this is when all my troubles started. My bill has risen so high it is ridicules and I have the same channels but u, Comcast, came up with this "tier" package and some stations in the package I do not watch but still paying for it.

Just so u know I have a TiVo DVR and so far I can not use it with Fios however whenever Fios does allow it, Dish and DirecTV customers can use TiVo now, I may have to reconsider my service with you. You no longer have flexible packages that meet my needs andyour cable has becometoo expensive for me. The triple package appears to be a bad mistake now but it wasn't a years ago. I have been a Comcast customer more than 10 years but I only see deals for new customers....what "good"deals are you going to provide for your loyal customers?

    DB:2.78:Comcast U Got Me Between A Rock And...... 1z

Comcast is like so many other Big Businesses: they only care about "new" customers. In fairness, Comcast isn't the onlybusiness who does this, but I agree 100% that they sure don't value long-time, paying customers.

I suspect it's more profitable to get new customers with a promotion; then raise rates on them in the hope they will stay. All the while Comcast raises rates, so if they lose a couple "old timer" customers they can make it up by luring in new ones on a promotion.

It will be a cold day in H before I go to ATT, but I sure wish Comcast would value it's existing customers.

It is so annoying. I have a combo dvr/vcr machine and when I get the message when I try to record on dvr I have to switch to vcr, where there is no copy protected message. 30 years ago the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that we could video tape record then for private use. Why wouldn't this extend to dvr?

Does message happen when Comcast customers are paying for Comcast dvr service? I suspect not.

I live in **bleep**, GA (North of Atlanta). A couple of months ago I had to replace my SA Explorer 8300HD DVR due to unknown problem (unit decided to quit working one day). When I went to my local Comcast customer service location they happily replaced it with the "newer" model SA Explorer 8300HDC (cable card enabled unit). The ongoing problem I am having is that occasionally the picture momentarily freezes and/or pixilates. This doesn't happen constantly. I could watch tv for a few hours and everything seems fine until the problem occurs. Or I could be watching for just a very short period of time and then the problem occurs. Very frustrating. I have performed numerous reboots, I have contacted Comcast tech support on the phone and they have "pinged" my unit to confirm communication and had me reboot; none of this has any lasting effect. Unit works fine for a while and then the problem gradually resurfaces. I know there is no signal strength problem as the other non-DVR boxes in my house work just fine. I have read discussions on many other forums where people are having this same issue with the SA 8300HDC DVR. I never had this problem with the SA 8300HD unit (and apparently others have had the same experience). I'm going to try to return the 8300HDC unit for a 8300HD, but on the other discussion forums everyone says that Comcast won't give out any more 8300HD units because of some regulations having to do with the cable card. I'm wondering if anyone else on this forum has had / is having these same problems and how you resolved the issue.

Comcast has stated right here some time ago that activating the eSATA port is "on their radar".

I would say the chances that cloud DVR storage will be activated for everyone and expanded storage will be available from Comcast (for a extra fee, of course) will happen before we will see that port active. That is just my opinion though.

My online account should be the "default" location for storing my schedule of shows to be recorded on my DVR. As changes are made either locally with the remote or online through DVR manager, everything should sync with my online account.

A customer should not have to reschedule all of the shows previously configured when a cable box needs to be replaced for one reason or another. Comcast should push scheduled events from my online account to my DVR.

Its just silly to ask your customers to reschedule all shows previously scheduled to be recorded when your equipment fails.

Please add feature to make my online account the default for storing scheduled DVR recordings. If an online account does not exist then thats the customers issue. You should recommend all customers to create online accounts for this reason.

    thanks

DB:2.77:Maintain Scheduled Dvr Shows Within Online Profile dm

It would be great to have that feature. Unfortunately as it is now it simply will not work.

Your online account is linked to a specific dvr and what is listed online is for that dvr.

When you exchange the box there is a different number associated with it and the box has to sync to the online account.Because the numbers are different your setup cannot transfer over to the new box.
