    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328459

This connection limit is in place to prevent (or limit the possibilities of) people from using Windows XP as a server operating system. The server operating systems require client access liecenses to be purchased for each computer that will connect to the server, while Windows XP does not require client access licenses to allow other computers to connect to it.

Additionally, Windows XP memory management is a bit different from that of a server operating system. Windows XP does not support large memory pages, and the paged pool/non-paged pool memory values are also lower which could trigger more frequent out of memory error messages.

Make certain that you use XP Pro, not XP Home.

    DB:3.68:Oracle 10g mx

How can i get the oracle pl/sql installed on Windows xp? There is a possibility?

    DB:3.68:Oracle 10g mx

Just to clarify what PL/SQL is.

It is an embedded procedural language (with o-o features) inside the Oracle database server. It runs and exists inside the database.

Thus "installing PL/SQL" makes very little sense as it is part and parcel of the Oracle database.

There is a "client version" of PL/SQL called Oracle Forms. This contains a stand alone PL/SQL run-time engine for using PL/SQL as a client language. But this forum does not deal with Oracle Forms. There is a separate and dedicated forum for it.

There are also numerous development tools (with GUIs and IDEs) that can be used for PL/SQL development. Some of them are specifically designed solely for PL/SQL development. The two Oracle tools that can be used is JDeveloper (which can be used for PL/SQL, but is primarily for Java development) and SQL Developer (aka Raptor) which is specifically for the Oracle SQL and PL/SQL developer.

3rd party tools includes ranges from TOAD, TOra, PL/SQL Developer to Eclipse.

So exactly what do you want to do ito PL/SQL?

My first thought when I read the subject of this thread, and before reading what you posted, is that you've either done no research on RAC or didn't understand what you've read.

You can create a RAC cluster using any operating system certified by Oracle.

But the operating system is the least important part of creating a cluster. The questions you need to be able to address are:
    1. What is your solution to created shared storage?
    2. What is your solution to create the cache fusion interconnect and VIPs?

If you don't have an answer to these questions you can not build a RAC cluster.

DB:3.49:How To Disable Autostart Of Oracle? sp

Which services you need really depends on what you are doing with Oracle. OracleServiceSID is the actual database instance, so you pretty much need that if anything else is going to work. That is also going to account for 99% of the memory and CPU utilization of the services. If you want to connect to the database from another machine, you will have to start the TNS listener. If you are using MTS (Microsoft's Transaction Server), Enterprise Manager, or dbms_scheduler, iSQL*Plus you may need to start other services as well.

DB:3.49:Is That Possible To Install Oracle 8 Personal Edition On Windows Xp Pro kz

It is theoretically possible - if you are very lucky and if your XP is an upgrade to the older versions, not a fresh install.

The problem is that Microsoft has changed the operating system APIs over the years and some API calls have moved between dlls and some have more/fewer parameters. That makes some programs older incompatible with the newer operating system. (Even many Microsoft products need to be upgraded when that happens, so you really can't expect Oracle products to migrate without issues, can you?)

I sympathize with your problem. However, if you are familiar with eBay - you will find the occasional book or package by searching for Oracle9i in software (such as the "Prentice Hall Presents Oracle Software") at a reasonable price.

Or, if you can get connected to a network for a short time, you may be able to download the newer and much smaller Oracle10g Express Edition.

DB:3.43:Oracle And Windows Xp Media Center s1

You are hopefully aware that installing on XP Home and XP Media Center, rather than XP Pro, is subject to a lot of challenges. Seems that Micorsoft made access to the security setup somewhat of a challenge on those lightweight variants.

For example, you probably need to figure out some way to get full 'administrator' access, and to create the DBA group.

IN any case, the 12541 means that the client can not access the listener. Possibly due to firewall blocking port 1521. (In which case you will have other issues.) Possibly because your IP address is available using DHCP and you have not installed the loopback adapter.

    ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
Cause: The connection request could not be completed because the listener is not running.
Action: Ensure that the supplied destination address matches one of the addresses used by the listener - compare the TNSNAMES.ORA entry with the appropriate LISTENER.ORA file (or TNSNAV.ORA if the connection is to go by way of an Interchange). Start the listener on the remote machine.

    Hi alano!

Installation of more than one oracle client is not a big problem. Do you know about OFA (Oracle Flexible Architecture)? OFA is a suggested directory structure from oracle that is made to separate application binaries from user data. An example for windows could look like that:

    D:\
    |--oracle
    |--apps
    |--8.1.7
    |--client
    |--server
    |--10.2.0.1
    |--client
    |--server
    |--oradata
    |--8.1.7
    |--10.2.0.1In that directory tree your application binaries are completely separated and so it's no problem to have more than one oracle software installed.

    Hope that helps!

    yours sincerely

    Florian W.

    Hi,

I am trying to install Oracle 9i in Windows XP Home Edition machine and it is giving the error "setup.exe is not a valid win32 application".
Is Oracle 9i not supported for Windows XP Home? If not, which edition can be installed in Windows XP Home?

I'm trying to load Oracle8i Enterprise utility on Windows XP and the autorun utility doesn't seem to be working. Is Oracle 8i compatible with XP? I thought XP was supposed to have the same compatability as Win 2000. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Well I did a little searching on these discussion forums and discovered a solution. After you decompress the downloaded files rename the symcjit.dll to symcjit.o in the ora_temp directory. There should be two instances of the file.

    hello
i want to know if it is possibl to connect the oracle database 11g on mandriva 2009 to oracle forms 6i on windows XP
    thank's

    DB:3.37:Oracle Database And Forms 6i m9

There may be issues or impossibility with connecting a forms 6i client to an 11g database

The forms 6i client is based on net 8.0 libraries. ... And Usually it is better if the client version is higher than the server version.

I recommend using sqlplus to debug anything ou are trying.

Metalink Note:207303.1 might help (I am passing this on from a 3rd party google).

You will also certainly have trouble with certain character set combinations, AL32UTF8 is guarenteed not worker for instance I believe).

I suspect that you would need to use a 9i database with forms 6i and even then there might be issues and patches required, others would confirm this.

Oracle Lite is NOT a smaller version of the Oracle Database Server. Oracle Lite is an addon to the Oracle Database and therefore must be installed with the Database. Windows XP is supported on both platforms.
