I've created several still frames in i-movie which I'd like to put into a slide show in i-DVD or import to i-photo. Is this possible ?

    DB:4.09:Importing I-Movie Stills Into I-Dvd/I-Photo jk

    Hi Myrtle:

As Lennart pointed out, the still that you can create with iMovie will be of poorer quality that one taken with a camera and imported.

But, if you want to use stills that you create within iMovie, just save them as .jpeg to the desktop and then drag them into iPhoto, imovie or iDVD to create your slideshow.

What gives the best video quality without pixilated stills? Share or Export - share to what, or export to what in order to make a DVD with .iDVD? Special settings?

Is this one of those "it worked before but not now" problems or rather "it never worked before" type?

Since this is Premiere Elements 9, are you running the 9.0.1 version of it? The information that Hunt is seeking is important for sorting this all out. The answers are in the details. And, we do need more details to sort this out.

If you determine that pixel dimensions oversized for the project are not involved and that an out of date video card driver is also not involved, then we might have to look to deleting the BadDrivers.txt file.

In reflecting further about what you are seeing in the previews....are you looking at a rendered Timeline and would you call what you are seeing more flicker than flashing?

    But, first the details.

    Thanks.

I have a canon dc210 video camera and recorded a home movie (dvd-rw mini). i'm able to import the videos off of disk without problem and can play the disc however when i import the file into movie maker i get only the first couple seconds of the video.

The file format is .vob. I'm going to convert the file to a different format and see if that helps, but MM is supposed to handle .vob directly. Maybe it's a codec thing.

From Apple's FCPX help menu...."Burn your project to a disc or create a disk imageYou can burn your project to either a standard-definition DVD or a Blu-raycompatible disc. I was working on a project that will need stills added onto the timeline.

The video footage is from the DVX and is on a 30fps timeline widescreen.

For some reason when I import photos into FCP they are twice the duration I have set. This made me realize that the FPS for the stills is coming in at 60fps.

Just wondering if it will be a problem to mix 30fps video with these 60fps stills?

The stills will have zooms and pans etc.

Yeah...stills should have a fps that match your project. But really, none of that matters. Just mark IN and OUT for as long as you want them onscreen and drop them in. Then do your PANS ZOOMS.

Make sure that the videos you're trying to burn are not corrupted. To see whether the videos you want to burn is corrupted, try playing or viewing them using Windows Media Player. If the files don't play using the Player, Windows DVD Maker cannot burn them.

The error message says to install the decoding software on the computer in order to successfully burn the video DVD using movie maker. We recommend you to browse the disc that came with the camera to cross check if there is any software to install.

IMHO Saving your old formats to DVD is not a real good idea. You take a quality hit when you do so. It would be better to dub them to DV tape for later editing.

Think of it this way. dv runs about 13gig/hour. If you take and put and hour onto a 4.75 gig dvd you are going to lose something somewhere. When you convert it back to dv from a DVD there isn't any magic that expands back what you lost. Best to put on DV and edit later.

I have the previous versions of these programs (Motion 2.1.2) (Final Cut PRo 5.14). I'm doing a DVD movie for my mom's 88th birthday using stills (panning, zooming in). All with a score of typical music from the last 90 years. I started out in Motion and did OK, but am wondering if I should just do it in Final Cut Pro. I've done a couple of other video projects in FCP but not a lot of importing of stills and creating "motion" for them. I also have been advised to change the project to DV50 (although I don't see that as a setting in Motion so I just chose NTSC DV) so I'm having to start all over again. Any advice appreciated.

DB:3.22:Motion Or Finalcut Pro For Project 19

If you have iMovie 08, it will handle this with ease. If you have your still images in iPhoto, you can import them all at once, and you can select default parameters for the import. You can use the Ken Burns Effect to zoom and pan. You control the start point, the end point, and the zoom of the Ken Burns Effect. You can drag and drop tracks from iTunes for the soundtrack.

You can also export it for further editing in FCP if needed.

Read Studios answer with regard to size and DVD encoding.

As for the self contained vs non. If your timeline is not completely rendered before you export, FCP still must create an new file for the renders.... hence not really self contained.

Thanks for the information about DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD as your goal.

Lots to explore. If you do not have too many photos and your computer resources are strong, that may minimize pre-processing to the extent that you might get away with scaling the images in the Edit Mode Monitor. But, if many, then explore the batch processing opportunities for crop/resize.

And, depending on how large this project is going to be, you might explore how many non pre-processed photos you can into the project before you find the program will not let you continue or accomplish your project goals. Define your own project limits.

I just finished loading stills, transitions and audio into FCE and would like to make several DVD's of this. How do I proceed?

    DB:3.14:Making A Dvd xz

Martin, I copied out the very helpful steps you described in this July 20 thread. But I found I could not set the preferences in iDVD until I had created a new project, as they were greyed out. When I created a new project I gave it the name I wanted, then I was able to set the preferences as you described. Then in the next File New step I gave the project its final name. It all worked out fine and the movie is being distributed among my family, but I could not follow the exact order that you described. Should I have opened an existing project first in order to set the preferences?

Thank you very much for all the valuable information you give on this forum. It's a great help. Keith

    Can anyone reproduce this:

Sequence is AVCHD, 720p... I've inserted a couple of pictures from my digital camera along with a couple of short movie clips (camera: Panasonic DMC-FT1)...

After inserting a couple of stills into the sequence, when playing back those stills I can't stop playback until playhead has either reached one of the movie clips of end of sequence.

Is this a bug of the current version (version 4.2.1)?

DB:3.14:Cs4: Hangs When Playing Back Stills pj

Yes, you're right... I've found a workaround, too: I minimize the Adobe Premiere Pro application window and restore it right afterwards. This action seems to have enough priority to keep Premiere Pro from stampeding...

But I tend to believe that's not very intuitive. Nor is it encouraging. Or even fun to work with.... Or shall I say "worth the price"..?

I'm doing some relatively rudimentary moving stills (jpgs and tifs) over XDCAM footage in 25fps. I've noticed jittering in the movement and am currently attributing it to the fact that the stills imported at 23.98.

I have changed every setting I can find to 25fps, I've restarted everything, I've even tried to bring them into a new project after everything is in 25fps. The stills keep importing as 23.98.

    DB:3.13:Importing Stills 3m

Before I get into deleting my preferences, which I already know will make all of my other settings disappear as well (what a pain in the . . . ), could you come up with another explanation or solution for why a simple still, a TIF sliding across a 25fps background (2 keyframes in the motion menu) jitters and is not smooth. In the same time line, seconds later, I've got layers of AE, in motion, alphaed over the same footage with no jitters--I assume because I rendered the AE at 25fps.

    Hi

    As Quality is of importance.

iMovie'08 and 09 are problematic and I've read but not figured out/tested ways
to get miniDV materal out with full quality to iDVD.

Just exporting via media browser deletes every second line in an interlaced movie
    resulting in about VHS-Quality.

Working on how to do this - search forum for better advice.

alt. is to use a program that doesn't take down quality eg.
iMovie up to version HD 6
    FinalCut Express (or Pro)
Or if You are a master of patience and order - QuickTime-pro
(It can do edits as well as everything else - BUT it's raw work)

    DB:3.11:Failure To Burn Dvd 8c

many (including myself) have experienced this before. fortunately for me, letting iDVD run "encoding audio" a few hours longer (even if finder says "iDVD not responding") did the trick. my 30 min. video with full audio tracks successfully burned in a little over 3 hours.

you may want to try "saving a disc image" first as this solves many syncing issues and burn your idvd later on (using disk utility or toast). please also check your timeline for any of overlapping audio files.

oops, just saw your new post. just under 5 minutes! wow, that shouldn't take overnight, anyway, no harm trying the above.

Another way would be to lay down all the stills imported prior to the User Preferences adjustment in the timeline and, with all selected Control-click over one of the stills and select *Duration (00:00:10;00)* from the shortcut menu. Altering the value to 4 seconds will them trim them all down by 6 seconds.

(This doesn't actually set the duration to a standard, but instead trims all clips by the same amount from their Out points. So, if one clip is, say, 5 seconds, it will fail.)

From each movie I need to export about 30 stills. Is there a program (in FCE or any other program that might be out there) where I could import the movie and export 30 still images at once without having to export each still image one by one. They could be random stills. Think of it as if I'm trying to re-create the storyline of the movie (using stills from the actual movie).

    3. I know if you open your photo bin in FCP and arrange the stills in columns and rows, then drop them into the time line, it will arrange them in the order you have put them, but that process takes so much time if you have a large number of stills.

DB:3.10:Tips For Arranging Stills In Order In Timeline 8c

when I exported the newly named stills into FCP 5.1.2, it would put 10 ahead of 2/div

When first naming or renaming the photos, use leading zeros to keep the proper order. For example, if you have less than 1000 photos, start with number 001, 002, etc. Then they'll stay in order for just about any program.

Convert the music files to the .WMA format before
    importing into Movie Maker 2.6.

There are many converters available on the net and
the following freeware is one example.

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Format Factory
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Format_Factory
    (the 'direct link' is fastest)
(the file you want to download is : FFSetup260.zip)
(FWIW...when installing...you may want to uncheck
'all' the boxes on the final screen)

First you will need to unzip the file or just open the
folder and drag FFSetup260.exe out of the folder
and drop it on your desktop. Left click it to install.

    Next...after downloading and installing Format
Factory...you may want to open the program and
left click the 'Option' button on the toolbar and
select an 'Output Folder' / Apply / OK.
(this is where you will find your files after they
    are converted)

Drag/drop yourmusicfiles onto the main screen...

Select 'All to WMA' / OK...

    Click...Start...on the toolbar...

    That should do it...

    Good luck...

So select the Track, in the User Operations tab under the Playback Control disable the Title Play UOP. Then you can select the last chapter and set the chapter specific UOPs. compressing with qt conversion will make no difference to the end dvd product. It's the duration, frame size (which should always be 720x480 for SD NTSC and 720 576 for PAL) and the encoding settings in DVDSP which dictate the overall data used on the disc. You should just export a QT movie (ref. or self contained although I prefer self-contained) and then bring that into DVDSP. You can then adjust your encoding settings in DVDSP according to the duration of the piece and the amount of data your menus take up.

The two audio lines are handy. You can add voiceover or other audio, maybe background music, and on the separate line choose where and for how long to overlap the main audio.

It doesn't matter which line the audio is on - and you can move audio clips from one to another if you want. This can help with the organisation of your movie.

Also check with Dell as DVD's sometimes have drivers and it is possible that dould effect the CD though it is
    unlikely.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just snug. For laptops you can often clean the power and
data contacts with a pencil eraser. - SpiritX -MS MVP

I have created a dvd of my home movies and I can't get it to import into final cut so I can work with it. It keeps telling me I have an error. so I tried to turn it into a quick time movie and I cant get it to open there either. Is there something else I need to do firt to my DVD movie first

DB:3.04:Having Problems Importing Home Movie Dvd 13

Handbrake is a nice tool, but the problem is that it will "rip" the DVD video to mpeg-4 format. You are already behind the eight-ball because the DVD video is already encoded (mpeg-2) and quality loss is inevitable. Further re-encoding to mpeg-4 will just degrade it further.

If the original material is not available and you must rip the video from a DVD, using one of the tools that rips directly to DV format is your best bet for minimizing quality drop.

    ================================================
The files on the DVD needed for editing are the VOB files...you will find them
in the VIDEO_TS Folder. You may be able to navigate to the VOB files from
Windows Live Movie Maker and import them but if not...you could try copying
the files to a folder on your hard drive and rename them from .VOB to .MPG.
If you still cannot import them into WLMM you will have to convert the files
    to the .WMV format.
There are many programs that can do conversions...
The following freeware is one example...:

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Format Factory
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Format_Factory
    (the 'direct link' is fastest)
(the file you want to download is : FFSetup260.zip)
(FWIW...when installing...you may want to uncheck
'all' the boxes on the final screen)

First you will need to unzip the file or just open the
folder and drag FFSetup260.exe out of the folder
and drop it on your desktop. Left click it to install.

    Next...after downloading and installing Format
Factory...you may want to open the program and
left click the 'Option' button on the toolbar and
select an 'Output Folder' / Apply / OK.
(this is where you will find your files after they
    are converted)

Drag/drop your video clips onto the main screen...

Select 'All to WMV' / OK...

    Click...Start...on the toolbar...

    That should do it...

    Good luck...
Once the files are imported and edited you will have to use Windows DVD
Maker to create a New DVD.

    and only display the movie?

DB:3.00:How To Prevent A Slideshow Being Created When Burning Only A Movie To Disc With Movie Maker 77

By the "slideshow" are you referring to the starting menu? There are various options for whether the starting menu is displayed. Please refer to the following

    DVD Settings guide.

The default option is to start with the menu. If you'd rather go straight to your movie, you can choose
Play video and end with DVD menu. If you'd like to go straight to your movie but never return to the menu at all (just keep looping), choose
Play video in a continuous loop. You will still be able to view the menu if you press the
Menu button on the remote control for your DVD player.

Additionally, make sure you are only adding a single video file to your DVD Maker project and that video does not havea slideshow as part of the footage. If you add photos, it will make those into a slideshow for you; so don't add photos to DVD Maker.
Finally, play with the menu options and the preview to get an idea of how it will play in your DVD player. Don't burn the disc until it is previewing as expected.

Great to hear that it worked for you! It is a weird problem. Several years ago, I discovered the solution when trying to import a photo into iPhoto. DB:2.98:Importing Rendered Stills At 30fps 1a

Yes, you can. It works differently from Premiere. Set the still import duration to one frame. Import the folder. Drag the contents on the folder into a sequence that's set to the correct frame rate.

Once again it's better to do this in the QT Pro player as it produces a complete video clip in the correct format. Make sure the images you generate conform to the specifications for DV or HDV video.

    Hi there.
For the first time, I've had to put iMovie clips and still shots into Keynote. I was advised to download and use version 6 of iMovie but I've had two problems putting data from iMovie into Keynote.

    1. The clips I copied into Keynote yesterday worked fine. However, when I now copy an iMovie clip into Keynote, it copies the whole movie file, not just the clip. Can't work that one out.

    2. More strange: I have been making some 'snapshots' or 'stills' in iMovie and pasting them into Keynote. Mostly, they have worked fine. However, one of the stills goes into Keynote ok, but when I keep working and come back to that slide later, a different still is in place. Strangest thing is that the original 'still' still shows in the navigator column down the left-hand side while the 'random' one appears in the main window. The 'random' one doesn't even come from the same movie file! I don't know how it picked up a still from a different iMovie file that wasn't even open.

I hope I've explained the problem adequately. It must be difficult for someone else to understand what's happening here, but I will appreciate any help.

    Thank-you

DB:2.97:Keynote - Importing Imovie Clips And Stills 8d

I have my G4 lap top connected to a VHS player, and I bought a Canopu converter to take my old takes to DVD. I have never tried working with tapes before only stills. When I push import it imports the movie only on one clip. I thought that each segment of the tape is to show up in the clip boxes so that you can pull them down to the timeline and edit if you want. What am I doing wrong?

I am very inexperienced/inept at using QT Pro so please be patient with me.

I need to regain the stills I originally put into a QTime movie. Is it possible?

Also because my stills were so large the movie is playing very big (even at half size) and I cannot reach the corner drag in the lower right hand side. It just slips back into its' original position on the screen. Is it possible to reduce the size of the player any other way beside using the RH corner drag.

    Many thanks

DB:2.97:When I Add Additional Stills From Iphoto Into My Existing Project, The Pictures Are Not Shown In The Movie. What Am I Doing Wrong? d9

I have starated a project and added stills to make a movie of the stills. So far so good. I have added music to it; still everything ok. When i now add additional stills from the same album in iPhoto or from my "flagged" in iPhoto, the stills do not show in iMovie. What am I doing wrong?

    DB:2.97:Quicktime To Imovie '08 jm

On my older iMac I created a movie using iMovie HD 5.0.2 to make into a DVD, and then because my DVD burner on that iMac isn't working, I copied the movie file onto my new iMac. This copy seems to have been converted into a QuickTime file. It is a large file (20 GB) consisting of stills, video, and music. How can I convert this QuickTime file into an iMovie file? When I try to open it or import it into iMovie, it is 'greyed out' and cannot be selected. Any thoughts/ideas/help much appreciated. Thanks!

If you were making a DVD, It probably has an extra track, such as a chapter track. You will need to delete the chapter track before you can import it into iMovie. You can do this in QuickTime Pro for one example. If you still have iMovie 5, you could also do it there.
