    DB:3.75:Thunderbird Smtp Failure af

    Mac OSX Thunderbird 2.0.0.19

Every time I try to send email using the comcast SMTP (not @comcast email - just using the SMTP with my comcast internet account) I get a send mail failure that says that connecting to smtp.comcast.net failed. I've tried using Mac mail.app as well. Noticed the failures a week or so ago; haven't changed any settings.

    thanks

Time to change you settings. For smtp.comcast.net, use port 587 with password authentication turned on. I'd also recommend TLS in Thunderbird, or SSL in Mac Mail, but that's not required.

See the sticky thread in the Mac forum:

Tried to be a good .net user and searched old posts but didn't find what I needed. For a while, I've had trouble sending files from Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 where the SMTP server dies at random intervals. Through perseverence, files are eventually sent.Currently trying to send 1.94 MB file with no luck. Spoke with online chat this morning who told me to change my outgoing port to 587. It made no difference. They "escalated it up to the engineers" and referred me here.I know some buzzwords but I'm just a general user. Any help in reasonably plain English would be most appreciated.

I *may* have solved the problem (and I'd never make it in a testing enviroment!). I have McAfee installed from Comcast. I launched the Security Center, clicked "configure" under SecurityCenter Information, and under Protection Status clicked "advanced." Of course, I can't see it on the menu anymore but there was one feature that I disabled called something like "scan outgoing email messages." I read in a previous post that if you have virus scanning software enabled, there was truly no need to scan outgoing messages. So far, it seems to be working. Speeds are still slow but that doesn't seem to be a contributing factor in my basic problem.

DB:3.16:Hotmail.Com Account Does Not Work In Thunderbird With Imap Settings 1a

I recently set up my hotmail.com and msn.com accounts in Thunderbird with IMAP connection settings.

I got the IMAP connection settings from Microsoft's outlook.com as mentioned at bottom of this post. I am finding that the hotmail.com initially starts working with IMAP settings, but after a few messages it starts experiencing an error
and after that it always fails to connect to hotmail.com and never receives new emails. This does not happen with my msn.com account in Thunderbird which works without any problems.

I also set up at the same time, my gmail account in Thunderbird with IMAP settings and it works perfectly without any issues. gmail will always work. So it seems there is some issue with hotmail.com accounts on Microsoft's end when it comes to receiving emails
    in Thunderbird with IMAP settings.

Can someone please let me know if hotmail.com accounts are allowed IMAP settings or is this some other problem?

I always see the following problem with hotmail.com in Thunderbird.

Hotmail.com account in Thunderbird will not receive new emails after some initial success.

BUT, Hotmail.com account in Thunderbird will always successfully send emails. So sending is working fine.

The log in Thunderbird related to Hotmail.com account says the following. I tried another email client called 'MailBird' and there also I faced the same issue with my hotmail.com account. It initially worked but then had the same problems.

Hotmail.com Connection Failure Log in Thunderbird

Server *********@hotmail.com has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a network problem.

IMAP Settings I have used for Hotmail.com in Thunderbird

DB:3.16:Hotmail.Com Account Does Not Work In Thunderbird With Imap Settings 1a

I am experiencing the same issues too. Is it because I have more than 6000 email in my inbox that needs to be downloaded? What is going on?

    Hey there lett

I'll message you directly for your account info and get Remote Access enabled from here for you.

As kevinds mentioned, there is no setting in the mobile version of Webmail to do this. You'd have to be viewing it on a computer. As a side note, "Preferences" is at the bottom of Webmail while being viewed on a mobile device, there are some settings there but it's limited.

Please check your Community Inbox for a message from me.

    Thanks,

Sending email with a 974KB attachment works. Email with a 1.4MB (and larger) attachment doesn't work. The error message appears pretty quickly (5 seconds at the most).

Still no success for kathyshowell account and the error on the SMTP server indicates that the user/password is not recognized.

System Center 2012 R2 U3 Orchestrator. I'm unable to send SMTP emails using the standard Send Email function. I've scoured the internet for 2 days and have no idea what is going wrong. I've tried with Yahoo, Office365 SMTP POP, and a personal
email account through an ISP with no affect.
I have run telnet to ensure the ports are open, I've run Mozilla Thunderbird to make sure the server can send SMTP messages through the main firewall. I installed the Exchange Integration pack and it is able to send email to our Office 365 Exchange
server (my fallback, but SMTP is what I'd like to use). I've run the tester on a remote PC and on the server (orchestrator and SQL server are on 2 separate machines). No other runbook activity fails or gives errors.
    Activity Details (By Tab):
Details: have Task Fails if an attachment is missing turned off, the message is a simple text string
Advanced: priority is normal, format is ASCII, SMTP Auth: I've tried both my username and username@yahoo.com. Domain is blank. It seems that no matter what I type here, there is no affect on the error message so I don't think it's even authenticating
    on login.
Connect: email address is my full username@yahoo.com. SMTP connection: smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port = 465, SSL is enabled.

Changing the port to a bogus number changes the error slightly to a timeout message.I can change the smtp server or uncheck the SSL box to a shorter version smtp.yahoo.com with the same timeout message
Error sending e-mail. Exception in sending email: The operation has timed out.
    at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message)
    at SendEmail.Send(SendEmail* )

Security: Account assigned to service (same account owning all the services on the server). I tried the domain admin and orchestrator admin account specifically typed in. Putting in a bogus account immediately fails the activity.
    Run Behavior: all defaults

Error summary text from runbook tester using the proper settings:
Error sending e-mail. Exception in sending email: Failure sending mail.
    at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message)
    at SendEmail.Send(SendEmail* )

    Outgoing mail server(SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing mail server SSL enabled: True
    Outgoing mail server port number

DB:2.88:System Center 2012 R2 U3 Orchestrator: Smtp Email Errors - Not Enough Info In Error Text zj

Update: It seems Orchestrator is VERY picky about not supporting anything but strict SMTP and SSL. You can't use any service that isn't specifically SMTP and SSL. For example, Gmail supposedly accepts smtp.gmail.com on port 465 for SSL,
but it won't work. Yahoo on port 587 does work. Office 365 also supposedly accepts SSL connections at outlook.office365.com on port 995, but no luck. I had the O365 techs on the phone/screen and they were baffled.
Someone on the Orchestrator team knows what the nuances are, but apparently it takes 2 days of your own head-banging to figure it out. Pardon the sarcasm, but I've gotten nothing done in 2 days...

I had the same problem with Thunderbird. I could not send messages, but could still receive emails using Port 110 ( no SSL). I finally got to talk to an ATT person through the high speed DSL help phone line. The problem was the password. For some unknown reason the switch from Bellsouth server to att.yahoo resulted in a password mix-up. After it was corrected at their end, all was well, and I could use the 995/465 Ports with SSL. Hope this helps, but as so many are having a problem with this switchover there must be other causes.

    DB:2.83:Using Secure Smtp On Port 537 1d

    Hello,

I work in the NOC for a cable ISP, where we allow our customers to use secure SMTP on port 537, if they wish to send email when away from home, on another network. This has worked fine in the past for both Mac and Windows, and continues to work for Windows. However, we have recently received reports from our Mac customers of not being able to use this feature.

Today, we tested this extensively, even going so far as configuring a modem without any blocked ports just to make sure we weren't overlooking something in the config. However, at this point we can consistently send on port 537 from Outlook Express or Mozilla Thunderbird in Windows XP, and get nothing but errors when doing the same from Mac Mail, MS Entourage or Mozilla Thunderbird in Mac OSX 10.5. Thunderbird gives the most detailed error messages, specifically saying that the server does not support authentication, even though the exact same settings work in Thunderbird for Windows.

I've seen this work on the Mac previously, not only on my own Mac laptop, but on my iPod Touch. Last year I configured the Mail program on my Touch to use the same mail server with SMTP authentication on port 537, so that I would be able to send email no matter what wifi network I was using. It worked fine when I set it up, and while I have not actually used tried sending mail from my iPod for months, when I tried it today as part of this testing, I encountered the same connection errors as from Mac Mail on OSX.

Whatever has changed, it changed within the past six months. We created a custom configuration file for one of our modems, specifically to eliminate any factors that could have changed on our network. Now, we're stumped. I can sit on the mail server and watch the logs, and the SMTP connections from the Windows test machines go right through, while the attempts from the Mac's don't even log as a connection in the logs, so it's not even reaching the servers. There are no problems receiving mail, or sending with regular SMTP on port 25.

When searching the support forums here, the closest I could find to relevant posts were an issue that appeared to be specific to postfix, and a post from almost two years ago that referenced Bug ID# 4818688, but that issue was from before we had this SMTP method working on Mac.

    Any thoughts?

    DB:2.83:Using Secure Smtp On Port 537 1d

I wish it was just a matter of the right settings in the mail client. However, I was working with another NOC engineer and one of our IP admins for hours, testing every possible setting in Mac Mail, Entourage and Thunderbird. Using SSL, Password authentication, SPA off, port 537, it works on Outlook Express and Thunderbird for Windows. Using the exact same settings, no mail client works on the Mac. That's why we reached the point of creating a custom configuration file on a modem, packet sniffing at each point in the connection and monitoring the SMTP logs... to make sure there wasn't something on our network that was interfering with Mac's that would not affect Windows.

It's not just a matter of getting the mail client settings correct, otherwise the exact same settings that work for OE would work in Entourage, and the exact same settings that work for Thunderbird for Windows would work in Thunderbird for Mac.

Thunderbird for Mac was the most helpful in trying to track this down, because it said that the server did not accept the authentication request. However, the SMTP server shows that no attempt for authentication from a Mac even reached the server, and as far as we can tell, the attempt at password authentication on port 537 never even left the Mac and reached the router or modem, for any mail client used.

I recently upgraded to Leopard. Sending mail used to work fine on Tiger and works fine on Thunderbird. Mail says:

The certificate for this server was signed by an unknown certifying authority.

    Exim says:

2007-11-02 00:23:50 TLS error on connection from macbook.intra [192.168.211.179] (gnutls_handshake): A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.

I signed the certificate, but I don't understand why this worked fine on Tiger and still works fine on thunderbird. I use a self signed certificate for my IMAP access on the same server, and that works with no problems at all. The Exim error seems to imply that something else is going wrong.

    Thanks

Solved! When it asks you to verify the certificate, click "show certificate" (or something along those lines), then tick the box to always accept the certificate. I'm surprised I didn't notice this earlier!

DB:2.83:Is It True That Thunderbird Does No Longer Works Well With Pop Mail Servers And Only Works Well With Imap Servers? dx

Our email host is telling us that our outdated POP mail server doesn't work well with Thunderbird and it the reason we're having sporadic difficulty sending out emails with attachments when using Thunderbird (no problems when sending emails directly from the email host's web portal and bypassing Thunderbird). We'll often get notification when using Thunderbird and trying to attach PDF'd documents to an email that "Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server timed out." The email host company is advising that this problem will be solved if we upgrade from the free POP email to the not free IMAP email. True? Or are they just using this Thunderbird problem as an excuse to sign us up for unnecessary services?

DB:2.83:Is It True That Thunderbird Does No Longer Works Well With Pop Mail Servers And Only Works Well With Imap Servers? dx

When you use the web mail page you are bypassing THEIR outdated, problematic SMTP server. POP and IMAP are for receiving and have nothing to do with sending.
I would find an honest email provider that knows what they are talking about and does not try to con you out of your money.

Hiya. I just installed the new thunderbird, ver 1.5 and am having some issues.

I can receive mail, sometimes. About 50% of the time, i get a connection timed out error as soon as I hit the 'get message button'. Other times, the message automatically appear when I load TB.

My main issue is with SMTP. Whenever I send a message, i get 'send of message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to the SMTP server smtp.comcast.net failed.

I am a tad baffled as to why TB wont send messages.

I have windows firewall enabled and am behind a linksys firewall. Running Win XP, SP2.

The other computers on my network can send/receive mail just fine, so I dont think it has to do with my linksys router.

Note : I am able to send a test message to my own address and retrieve it without problems. Any other email address and I get the stmp error.

    thanks

I used to have this same kind of problem with McAfee Virus Scan, even when you told it NOT to scan messages, it still did. Solution was to turn on SSL and move to port 465 for SMTP and port 995 for POP3. No more problem.

Other mail progams have the option to choose between a LAN connection or a Dial Up Entry.

Underneath Account Options I only see areas to configure the POP and SMTP but is there possibility to configur Thunderbird it triggers the Dial Up Netwerk to open the satcom line. The satcom lines costs about U$D 1,- per minute so it must close automatically when Thunderbird pulled in all email and the line is closed.

Are you familiar with this setup?

DB:2.79:Dial Up Network Connection Isnt Showing In Config Of Thunderbird. Only Possible To Connect Via Satelite With Dun Entry. How To Arrange? sf

Yes, you can. It's just not within Thunderbird's scope to manage that as replied above.

Create a batch file that will initiate the connection, return an appropriate result code (success or not), launch Thunderbird, and upon exiting TB, close the connextion again. This requires some command line knowledge but is possible whatever the operating system.

Ask your provider about it, I don't suppose you would be the very first customer asking them about this. If there is a community / public forum resources on their end, ask other users how they manage on-demand connectivity like you described.

My primary e-mail account is with Verizon.

I've set up Thunderbird successfully to access all of my Verizon e-mail accounts as well as my Yahoo mail account. I also have a couple of AOL e-mail accounts that I rarely use. Today I tried to set those up so I could access them via Thunderbird.

I've been testing the setup by sending messages to various accounts from various accounts. It sort of works, but here's my problem.

I can use Thunderbird to send an e-mail message from a Verizon account to an AOL account

I can use Thunderbird to send an e-mail message from an AOL account to both Yahoo and Verizon accounts

When I use Thunderbird to send mail from my Yahoo account to AOL, the mail is returned with this error message:
"Reason: SMTP transmission failure has occurred

Diagnostic code: smtp;521 5.2.1 : (DMARC) This message failed DMARC Evaluation and is being refused due to provided DMARC Policy
Remote system: dns;mailin-04.mx.aol.com (TCP|206.46.173.9|53698|64.12.88.131|25) (mtaiw-mba02.mx.aol.com ESMTP Internet Inbound)"

If I send e-mail to the AOL account using the Yahoo web mail server, it goes through.

I Googled that error message and, as I interpret it, AOL is seeing a message from a Yahoo mail address that wasn't sent from or through a Yahoo mail server and rejecting it. I don't care whether I can send mail to myself, but I'm concerned that if I use that AOL account, someone else my have the same problem and not be able to reply to me. A mailing list that I was getting via the AOL account started having trouble with mail bouncing from all of their AOL subscribers.

I suppose that AOL is being good and protecting me from phishing scams from forged e-mail addresses, so I can't really say it's an AOL problem. Should I consider it broken and move on, or is there a way I can make Thunderbird send the proper authentication so that AOL will accept mail via this route? I know that won't fix it for everyone, but I'm just trying to understand the problem.

I can configure the identity in Thunderbird with it's attendant display names. I can specify the outgoing SMTP server and sign in with the credentials of the "identity". The mail that arrives is from the main identity, not the one I selected.

So the question is fairly simple really. How do I get Outlook.com to use the Alias when sending using the Outlook.com SMTP server.

DB:2.77:Using Thunderbird And Outlook Alias Feature I Can Not Send Or Reply To Email As The Alias. 8x

    Ron,
I think that the main issue with Thunderbird is that the user can only send an email using his "main" account - the alias is shown in the GUI, but grayed out, i.e. not selectable.
I think that we (Thunderbird users) would like to have the option to decide the "from" identity directly from within Thunderbird, that we currently use as mail software.
I have win 7 and can only send emails from my alias using the online outlook.com site - no way to use Thunderbird to do it.
I think you'll agree with me that this is not an efficient solution, I mean, imagine if you'd need to use the online version of the mail server for each of your email accounts, hosted by different servers...
Since Thunderbird is widely used, and this issue has been discussed a lot also in the Web, IMHO MS should consider this with priority if it wants to show it really cares for its end users (customers! we pay for MS products)

In the past we configured Thunderbird so that mail could be received/sent on one of our volunteers laptops.

This was set-up using our email address/password. Recently however when trying to send email via Thunderbird we get the following: 'sending of message failed. because the connection to SMTP server smtp.ggoglemail.com timed out'

We re-checked setting in Gmail and all was fine. Checked that Thunderbird was allowed through firewall. Meanwhile other email accounts set up in the person's Thunderbird were working fine. Hmm so we removed our editor@tibettruth.com and tried to set it up again in Thunderbird. On Mail Account Set-Up however now we get the following: 'Thunderbird failed to find settings for your email account'

At a loss how to advise our volunteer to resolve this, any help would be most appreciated. BR

And Thunderbird is an application that people are moving towards, a friend at Northwestern University says that it's their preferred migration path from Eudora. There's something different about the MTA node that worked for me, based on the traces, versus the ones that failed.

The current SMTP notification option is text/info only, no WAV file attachment.

In 7.1 you will have the option to setup a copy/move/forward rule in the inbox - so you can send a copy of an inbound voice mail to a remote SMTP address and either leave a copy in the voice mail box or not (copy vs. move).

No matter where you post this question whoever tries to answer it is going to need more information:

    1) who is your internet service provider?

    2) who provides your mail sending service (ie the SMTP)?

    3) do you have more than one mail account and identity set up in Thunderbird?

    4) what is the exact error message you get when SMTP doesn't work?

DB:2.76:Timeout Connecting To Smtp.Gmail.Com Under Thunderbird Version 24.6.0; Version 24.5.0 Works Ok 7k

I have recently updated Thunderbird to the last version (24.6.0). Since then I cannot send email to smtp.gmail.com. This has worked perfectly for many years. I did not change anything in the configuration!
I can receive emails without any problems, but when I try to send an email I get this error message:
"The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.gmail.com timed out.".
    The configuration is:

    Server name: smtp.gmail.com
    Port: 587
    Connection security: STARTLS
    Authentication method: Normal password
    User name: XXXXXXX@gmail.com

I have verified that I can reach smtp.gmail.com with PING and with TELNET. The reaction from the server is shorter than 1 or 2 seconds, there is no time out.

My wife has a laptop where Thunderbird is also installed, and like me, she has a Gmail account. But her Thunderbird version is 24.5.0, just one step behind my version 24.6.0. Sending email from her Thunderbird works perfectly, no issues, no time outs. The connection is made from the same location (same IP address) as me.
Given this facts, I have to conclude that update 24.6.0 has possibly broken something in this area; I cannot think of another explanation for this problem. I have advised my wife not to upgrade.
    Is this a known issue?
Is there a workaround for this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

ok, so the time to live on your dodgy DNS data expired and your dns cache was refreshed is how I would see this.

DB:2.74:Email Authentication Failure, Password/Server Settings Not Changed 7z

Scenario: I've been using Thunderbird for years now to connect to Verizon and download my email. Server settings have always been:

    POP3

    incoming.verizon.net port 110

    connection security none

    authentication method encrypted password

    SMTP

    outgoing.verizon.net port 25

    connection security none

authentication method password, transmitted insecurely (oops)

Suddenly when I try to get my email, it stops and tells me there's an authentication failure. I've seen this happen before with Verizon when a server is down or messed up or whatever (pretty poor message for a service interruption, but whatev). So I decided to wait it out, but when it didn't clear up after several hours, went to the website where I was able to log in (huh?) and decided to change my password for the hell of it. Guess what? New password doesn't work in the email client. Quelle surprise.

Sooo, I find THIS page (https://www22.verizon.com/Support/Residential/internet/highspeed/email/setup+and+use/questionsone/86...) which tells me a lot of malarkey about server settings. I tried changing the incoming to their recommended settings, and it looks like there's no server communications a-tall.

Can someone tell me what's amiss, and while you're at it, tell me where in a just and well-ordered universe a service provider changes server settings without notifying users well in advance? Extra points for creativity.

Solved it myself, after much too long in live chat with a truly hopeless Verizon employee (dude, what good will it do you to look at my outlook settings when outlook isn't even configured, or possibly even installed?). What it required: deleting and re-adding the email config (and of course, various dancing around to make sure nothing was lost). Verizon, I'm not a fan.

    Alex,

When you setup SMTP notifications in unity connection, you need to supply a smart host, which technically doesn't need to be an SMTP server.  A smart host is used to relay smtp messages.  I do not see anything in the smart host configuration for unity connection which allows you to send authentication.  Perhaps you can use an SMTP relay service, here is one I found http://www.dnsexit.com/Direct.sv?cmd=mailRelay.  I also found a guide on how to use the IIS service in windows as a smart host here http://support.microsoft.com/?id=kb;en-us;Q230235.

This issue is resolved. I was passing wrong parameters to the function "sendToPeerSmtp". You can not use empty strings to provide the values for ID and channel and handler. I have an accounts system (Sage/Pastel) that is sending out PDF statements via Thunderbird 3.0.11. Thuderbird is giving an error from the remote smtp server : too many concurrent connections.

Checking sent items I see that the first 5 mails send. I spoke to the smtp servers' admins who say that 5 concurrent smtp connections are allowed. This leads me to beleive that Sage dumps the mails onto Thunderbird to send - and THunderbird doesn't queue them up one by one - it tries to push them put simultaneously - leading to the concurrent connections error.

Could I be right? Is there a way to force Thunderbird to only create one smtp connection at a time?

I am not sure if this is relevant, but the software is running in Windows Remote Desktop via a Server 2008 Foundation terminal server.

Wow, this one is killing me. I have a Mac Mini with Snow Leopard Server running mail. I use CRAM-MD5 authentication and SSL connections for both IMAP and SMTP.

I got a Windows 7 netbook to run QuickBooks and Office 2010 and now I'm trying to connect either the Outlook 2010 client or a Thunderbird client with one of my Snow Leopard Server mail accounts so QuickBooks can send invoices, etc...

I was able to connect to IMAP with both clients using the SSL connection. I can't remember the level of authentication that worked for Thunderbird, but I had to drop to PLAIN in the server's mail settings for Outlook to work.

Now the hair-pulling problem... The SMTP authentication and connection methods don't work for either client. NONE of them in any combination. Even dropping SSL and going to PLAIN don't work.

Does anyone have any idea what this is all about?

It is one route to send mail but not the answer to your question.

My understanding is that Outlook uses a helo command that the Mac email server just won't work with without some editing of postfix main.cf and master.cf.

I used Thunderbird as an alternative and it works fine. It auto finds and uses starttls not tls or ssl which are the options in Outlook.

You make me suspect a problem here by your comments and the fact that I see no other messages stating this problem. Last time there was an SMTP server problem there were many messages.

Both computers are running XP-Home and hopefully identically configures (but that is easier said than done). I have ComCast internet. I use Mozilla Thunderbird as my email client. Often when I send emails, they never reach the intended recipient. The SMTP log for Thunderbird reports connection and delivery to the ComCast email servers along with a ComCast message id and "message accepted for delivery". I never receive a bounceback or any error.

The messages never appear in a spam folder at the other end and there is no indication the messages are ever received by the recipient's email server. I have tested this with other email accounts I control and verified that this happens.

I asked Comcast for server logs related to these messages so I can investigate the problem, but the retail consumer rep says they don't have this capability. There must be some way to find out what ComCast is doing with the message. What could it be? Thanks.

Is anyone else having problems with Comcast's SMTP server. I can check mail, access the Web, but cannot send mail. Thunderbird looks like it is connected, but the mail won't send.

    Am I the only one?

Is there a "network status" page somewhere that might say if the server is offline?

DB:2.70:Can't Send Thru Comcast Smtp Server fj

There was a problem with one authentication method, AUTH PLAIN, on some of the SMTP servers for about a week or so. It's fixed now. Also there were problems with some recent updates to Norton firewall and/or AV. Problems caused by outgoing mail scanning can sometimes be circumvented by changing to SSL. Were you previously using TLS? Or no encryption?

I didn't have any problems with Thunderbird on the SMTP servers without encryption . But there are problems with some POP servers currently using SSL. You may see intermittent connectivity depending which server you get. If that happens, use the wescoast servers at these IPs: 204.127.198.10 and 216.148.227.80.

    Hi,

i have a very big problem with my pix 515 version 6.2 (2). I have just installed and configured it. I configured acls to permit ftp from inside to a server in dmz, and permit smtp from inside to a smtp server in Internet. Both requiere authentication.

The question is that when I go through the firewall I get an authentication failure (I see packets traversing the pix so the connection arrives to the peer). If i don´t use fw it works properly. I have fixup configured for ftp and smtp, but if I deactivate it, it does not work either.

    Any clues?

Is it possible that the firewall could be changing data packets (user, password)?

    Thanks a lot,

    regards,

DB:2.69:Pix 515 And Procols That Require Authentication As Smtp, Ftp xa

Are you using RADIUS for authentication by any chance. If so, please see bug CSCdz64205 that talks about authentication failure while using RADIUS due to the PIX sending Incorrect Radius Request ID. The problem has been fixed in later versions of PIX os and upgrading would probably be a good idea.

If you want to use Thunderbird use Mozbackup to backup the Thunderbird install that works then use it to restore those profiles to the non working system. This way you know for absolute certainty that both are setup identically.

Up until the end of August, I was able to send emails with no issues using Thunderbird version 17.0.8 using Windows 8.

In the past few days (in September only - that seems related somehow!) I've been getting this timeout message when I try to send any emails from Thunderbird:

An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: SMTP Relay Connection timeout https://community.shaw.ca/64.59.128.135. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again.

My outgoing server settings have always been the following (and have worked up until the month of September):

    Server: mail.shaw.ca

    Port: 25

    No authentication or security.

Anyone know why I am having this problem NOW? And what I can try to fix it?

DB:2.69:All Of A Sudden, Can No Longer Send Emails In Thunderbird! mc

    Hi Pokee99

It is strange that the problems started all of a sudden. I would suggest to start by, going into the settings and re-typing the login (email username) and password again. Save settings and test again. The reason is that the error is specific and says email address is not correct. Also, make sure your email address is not forwarded or disable that for testing. Lastly, if you have any other Shaw emails registered to your account, test them to see if the error is specific to this email address.

Let us know here if any of that helped.

    Cheers

    Hitesh

DB:2.69:Apple Mail Can Send Through Gmail, But Thunderbird Cannot 8c

I have apple mail setup and working both with a POP3 account and gmail. I installed Thunderbird. It works fine with POP3 both send and receive. Gmail not so good. I can receive emails but not send. I setup outgoing smtp as: smtp.gmail.com; tried ports 25, 465, and 587; authentication method is normal password; connection security is SSL/TLS.
This can't be a network issue if apple mail works right? I did notice apple mail is set to default (25, 465, 587) and I am guessing it will try all three.
I followed the troubleshooting page, I cannot telnet to port 25 but I get responses from 465 (connection refused by smtp.gmail.com) and 587 (appears to log in or something).
    So, what is wrong?

HiWe have today been connected to BT Infinity and I'm trying to set up Thunderbird to collect and send email. However, I seem to be having all sorts of problems. I've done a search of the forums but have so far not found anything which would provide a solution to my problem. We have our own domain names (hosted by Fasthosts) and we have our own mailboxes with them. However, although I've been through the setting up of Thunderbird using the BT instructions I'm just not getting anywhere. Mind you, it doesn't help that the dialogues shown are from a version of Thunderbird that has long since been superceded (pre-version 2.0.0.24) and version 5 has just recently been released!!! It also doesn't help that the graphics don't seem to tie in with the text!!! Overall, I'm thoroughly confused as to what I need to do.I'm happy to set up Thunderbird to collect and send via BT to start with and then make mods to collect from Fasthosts once I've got that going. As such the info I need is:BT POP3 AND SMTP Server addresses (all docs I have indicate this is mail.btinternet.com)Port number (incoming and outgoing)Authenication settingSecure Connection settingI'd appreciate any help people can give me as we still have to cancel our previous Broadband account with O2 but until we can get this sorted out we're lumbered with keeping it. I've seen other posts about this but cannot find anything that helped.

I'm trying to set up Thunderbird to send e-mail using my new FIOS/Yahoo e-mail address which is xxxxx@verizon.net. The ISP on the computer from which I am trying to send is Verizon FIOS. I can receive e-mails in Thunderbird but cannot send.

I have tried both using SMTS outgoing.verizon.net and outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net. For incoming I had to use incoming.yahoo.verizon.net and it works.

I've tried using Port 25 and Port 587.

I've input my username both with and without the @verizon.net

For "Secure Connection" I've tried all choices: No, TLS, if available, TLS and SSL.

Whenever I try to send an e-mail it usually asks for my password twice and after inputting it the second time I get a version of this message:

The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server outgoing.verizon.net failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator.

If you are still having trouble, post the error. (The error you've posted here is for the wrong server.)

Well, I had already done those things before. The message I got when I tried is:

An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: From address not verified - see http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/manage/sendfrom-07.html. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again.

I had input the email address without the @verizon.net extension. That's exactly how I input it in the pop3 set-up for receiving e-mail and it works there.

So I went to the link that is referenced in the error message. It basically had me go to my Yahoo mail account page. I was directed to add an account with a different email address. A verification code was then sent to me via email that I then had to input into the new account's setup page in order to activate my Yahoo mail for smtp use. Once I input the code and validated I was then able to send e-mails just fine with Thunderbird. I was able to use my @verizon.net email address and not the new account I had created.

Bottom line - I had to activate/validate my account before I could send email. I had not read about this anywhere when trying to figure out what was wrong.
