I have a basic form with combo boxes. A button on the form calls a report that uses the values of those combo boxes during generation. For example, in my code for the report, I have:
    If Form![frm_CaseListing]!cbo_Admin = "Criteria" Then ....
This code works fine when I open the regular form. However, when I try to put this form into a Navigation Form, it becomes a subform. When I try to call the report from the subform, it gives me an error that the form in the code does not
exist. Is there a way to code the report so that it would work as a regular form or a subform?
Thanks very much for any help!

    DB:3.57:Access 2010 - Navigation Form - Subform Issues px

Using this new Navigation and the old Switchboardthingies cause just this kind of question to arise. I avoid them just because, while they may be a convenience to beginnersin some highly restricted scenarios, they often cause more trouble than they are
    worth over rhw long haul.
There are ways to code things so the report is unaware of where/how it was opened (OpenArgs immediately comes to mind). If I have a report that can be opened from several different places, I would definitely use OpenArgs. Because it is a good practice
to keep connections from one object to another to an absolute minimum, I use OpenArgs to pass information even if there is only one form structure (at the moment) involved.
In youe case, thebutton's code might be:
    DoCmd.OpenReport "reportname",view, _
    WhereCondition:= criteria, _
    OpenArgs:= Me.cbo_Admin
And the code in the report would look like:
    If Me.OpenArgs = "Criteria" Then ....

DB:3.52:How To Filter Subform From Main Form Combobox z1

I have seen countless posts on many forums. But have not been able to figure it out yet. I have a subform (ship_labor_data) embedded in a Main Form (Data Entry). The Combobox on the main form (Emp_No) is supposed to filter the subform to employee numbers.
it works when it first loads. but changing the data in the combobox effects no change. I have record navigation buttons on the subform, and these work fine. if I select next record it progresses through the filtered records based on the original combobox
value. The Master/Child links are set fine as the subform displays what it should. I tried adding record nav buttons on the main form (Next Prev). When these are pressed the Emp_no combobox steps through the unfiltered fields and displays the coresponding
Emp_No. As the Emp_No changes the filltered subform changes, and if I press the subform nav buttons it steps through the filtered list.

What I would like to have happen and what I thought does happen from reading posts and reference books is when I change the combobox value the subform would automatically filter. It does not. Any ideas on how I can get the subform to automatically filter
    when the combobox changes?

DB:3.52:How To Filter Subform From Main Form Combobox z1

You can do both in one form, but you need to include an unbound combo box as well as the bound control, though if Emp_No is an autoumber in the parent form's underlying table there is no need for a bound control at all, just an unbound one. What you need
to do is navigate to the parent form's record with the Emp_No value which matches the value selected in the unbound combo box, which you do by putting the following in its AfterUpdate event procedure:

    Dim strCriteria As String
    Dim ctrl As Control

    Set ctrl = Me.ActiveControl

    strCriteria = "Emp_No = " ctrl

    With Me.RecordsetClone
    .FindFirst strCriteria
    If Not .NoMatch Then
    Me.Bookmark = .Bookmark
    End If
    End With

Name the combo box cboEmp_No to distinguish it from the field name and in the form's Current event procedure, to keep the combo box in sync with the form's current record if you navigate other than with the combo box, put:

    Me.cboEmp_No = Me.Emp_No

The above assumes that Emp_No is a number data type. If by any chance it is a text data type amend the code to:

    strCriteria = "Emp_No = """ ctrl """"

In the form's AfterInsert event procedure put:

    Me.cboEmp_No.Requery
    Me.cboEmp_No = Me.Emp_No

to add the Emp_No for a new record to its list and set its value to the new Emp_No. Do the same in the form's AfterDelConfirm event procedure in case you delete a record in the parent form.

Assuming the subform is linked correctly to the parent form, as you navigate by means of the unbound combo box, or in any other way, it will be requeried to show only those rows which reference the parent form's current record.

You'll find an example of a form which does this as StudentLog.zip in my public databases folder at:

    https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=44CC60D7FEA42912id=44CC60D7FEA42912!169

You might have to copy the text of the link into your browser's address bar (not the link location). For some reason it doesn't always seem to work as a hyperlink.

The file is really intended to demonstrate how to build correlated subforms, but if you go to the Students form you'll see that it has an unbound 'Go to Student' combo box. If you select a student in this the form will move to that student's record and its
Registrations and Attendances subforms will be requeried to show the rows for the current student. The form is more complex than you will need because it includes the two correlated subforms, but the combo box and the Registrations subform work in the same
    way as yours would.

BTW when you say 'Data Entry' I assume you mean for editing existing records as well as adding new ones, rather than the form's DataEntry property is set to True (Yes). This property is rather confusingly named because setting it to True allows only new records
to be entered, not navigation to or editing of an already existing record, so what I've described above would not work if the DataEntry property is True. You'd need to set it back to False (No).

    Me.sfrm_MASTER_Plan.LinkMasterFields = "MainFormID"
    Me.sfrm_MASTER_Plan.LinkChildFields = "SubformID"

    Me.sfrm_MASTER_Plan.LinkMasterFields = ""

I have a form, ("ProjectMasterForm") with a text box control, ("Billings") that has a Control

The form has a subform named "Billing Information subForm" whose Record Souce is the

When the form(s) load, the right data is displayed in the "Billings" control, so I know the
    control source is working ok.
I want the "Billings" control on the "ProjectMasterForm" to automatically update when I add or
edit a record on the subform. I tried to use the AfterUpdate event on the subform control
"INVOICE_AMOUNT" to requery the "Billings Control"
    Private Sub INVOICE_AMOUNT_AfterUpdate()
    Forms.ProjectMasterForm.Billings.Requery
    EndSub
    I also tried:
    Private Sub INVOICE_AMOUNT_AfterUpdate()
    Forms.ProjectMasterForm.Recalc
    End Sub
The behaviour for both is the same and is strange. It blanks out the previously correct number in the "Billings" control and doesn't fill the right number in. What am I doing wrong? any suggestions on how to make this happen? I don't want to requery
the entire form "ProjectMasterForm", cause I don't want the subform to lose the focus. Requering the entire form "ProjectMasterForm" does update the value for the "Billings" control properly.

DB:3.31:Calculated Control Value Not Updatingrequeryingrecalcing 8x

The save operation has already been done by the time the Form AfterUpdate event, so putting the save record there is at best a waste of time, even if it doesn't cause a problem. If you want torecalculate rhe billings amountwhen the invoice amount value
is entered, then use Me.Dirty = False in the Invoice Amount text box's AfterUpdate event to save the record. After that, Parent.Billings.Requery should recalculate the billings amount.
You should not have to recalculate the entiremain form and using requerying the main form isnot the right thing to do. Parent.Requerywill also make the parent form's first record current and that, through the LinkMaste/Childproperties can change the
recordset in the subform, making a mess of your user interface.
Note that there is no Recalc method for controls. To recalculate just a contol, use the control's Requery method.

DB:3.29:How To Tell When A Record In Continuous Form Gets The Focus? ax

Yes that works but the problem is that the Form_Current event gets fired for each record in the subform at the time the main form is built.

In Access 2003 that would not normally be the case, but it will fire once.

You can block the Current Record in the sub-form from taking action until the Main Form has loaded.

    Main Form:-
    Private Sub Form_Load()

    Me.ctlShowRecords.Form.HandleCurrentRecord True

    End Sub

    Sub Form:-

I can close the form, exit access 2007 and re-load it, but each time I have to switch to design view and then back to form view in order for the screen to "repaint" or refresh.

    DB:3.18:Help Continuous Subform kz

I am experiencing a problem. Here is my database setup:

Database 1: MemberName select Query, MemberEmail select Query, MemberName Form, MemberEmail SubForm.
Database 2: MemberName Table, MemberEmail Table -- The primary key "Member_ID" in the MemberName Table is related to foreign key "FK_Member_ID" in the MemberEmail Table (one-to-many).

    * The MemberName and MemberEmail tables from DB2 are linked in DB1 *

At the moment, my MemberName Form pulls its values from the MemberName query which queries the MemberName table. Likewise, the MemberEmail subform pulls its values from the MemberEmail query which queries the MemberEmail table.

The MemberEmail Subform is a continuous form. I placed this subform in the parent MemberName form. In the property sheet of the subform, the 'Link Masters Fields' and 'Link Child Fields' are set to Member_ID and FK_Member_ID respectively.

When I load the MemberName Form in form view, it pulls/changes (reads/writes) data from the table as it should. The subform, however, does not pull any data from the MemberEmail table nor does it filter the results by the parent 'Member_ID'. Interestingly
enough, if I enter values into the subform, it writes them just fine to the MemberEmail table with the correct (corresponding) Member_ID. After they are written, they do not show up on the continuous subform.

The goal here is to lookup member information by searching the MemberName form. When it finds and displays the matching record aka. member, I want the subform to display that member's corresponding MemberEmail records.

If you missed the question, it was: How do I get my half-working subform to display the MemberEmail records that match the member I am viewing in my Parent form via their linked keys, Member_ID and FK_Member_ID. Once again, the subform writes just
fine, but it does not read.

I have gone back and tested the queries, tables, and forms. My subform when loaded by itself or nested in another form just will not display records from its query. All of the field names match. But why will it write to the query when it cant read
from it? I am so confused. Could there be somekind of criteria or filter set on the subform somewhere that is causing the form to show zero records? Where would I look for something like that?

Please forgive me if what I have written is confusing. Also, I am a beginner with Access, I do not yet know any VBA/SQL scripting.

I am using Access 2003.  I have a subform on a form (form1). The record source for the subform is a complex query that has calculated fields in the query.  The subform just displays the query values (it does not calculate fields in the subform).
When a process on another form (form2) executes, it updates data in a table that the subform (on form1) record source query is using for one of its calculated fields.  When the form2 process adds a new row to the underlying tables of the subform query, a Subform.Requery will successfully show any new rows in the subform with all the values calculated correctly.
But when the form2 process just updates a single field of a table that is referenced in a calculated field in the query of the subform recordset, the Subform.Requery does not cause the new calculated value to be displayed.  If I close and open the form (form1) with the subform all the new calculations show up correctly.
    Any ideas?

    DB:3.14:Problem With Subform Set c7

    Hi scott,
The problem is with subform set and not subform. In subform set, we can give conditions to make only one subform visible at a time that satisfies the condition. First create a subform set having more than one subform. Now apply the conditions to that subform set. Check if it works. I m sure it wil work. Now just make a duplicate copy of the same subform set. Place it in the same form so that now two subform sets are available. Now preview the form. U wil fine only one subform set working and the other one doesnt.
We can use any number of subform set within a form. If different conditions are applied to each subform set , it works fine.

i wonder now wat wud u do in case if we are in need of two subformset having the same condition in a form ?

    Thanks,

DB:3.10:Subform Self-Disables On Setfocus To Other Control 7j

The reason seems to be that is the sub form .NewRecord is false you are ending up in a loop. Every time you try to put focus back on the sub your TabForward picks up the focus and tosses you out. What might work is to put focus on the first control in the
sub and THEN move focus to the main form.
    If Me.NewRecord Then
    Me.OtherControl.SetFocus
    Forms![PI-Frm_Instr Header]![General Notes].SetFocus

A Filter probably won't do the job for you here; it only filters an existing recordset. If the subform is unbound, there's nothing there to filter!
I think what you want to do is use the AfterUpdate (rather than the Change) event of the first subform to explicitly set the Recordsource property of the second subform's Form object to the SQL string that you have constructed:
    Parent![frm_EmailAttachments subform].Form.Recordsource = your SQL string

    Hi,
I'm working on an Access 97 database that has several tables, forms, etc. I have a form with some controls in it and a subform. The subform is like a datagrid. Two of the columns are PartNo and Price. The PartNo is a combobox. When I type a number and tab
away from it the Price cell gets a value based on the part number I entered. My problem is that it is the wrong price so I'm trying to track where the data is coming from to fix it. I've been unsuccessful so far.
This is the info on the form and subform:
Requesition purchase orders form (Record Source = PO Requisitions)
Requisition subform (Record Source: Select * from [PO Requesition Items] Order By ProductID, PromiseDate).

There is a PartNo combobox in the subform that has its Row Source = Select Distinctrow Left([ProductID],11) as expr1, Product.ProductName...Product.UnitPrice from Products Order By Left([ProductID],11). There is also a UnitPrice textbox with
    Control Source = UnitPrice.
I typed queries (with PartNo: 12123456123) for the form, subform and PartNo combobox (sources) in visual studio server explorer and there is no value for UnitPrice in the results (they come up as null). If I type the same part number in Access (Requesition
purchase orders form) the Price column shows 0.2278.

There is a table in the database ([Inventory Transactions]) that has six records for that part number and three of those records have a UnitPrice of 0.2278. The problem is I can't see how they relate to these forms/subforms. I'm lost.

Can anyone shed some light into this?

This is great Tom. It's not doing exactly what Iwant, but I've figured out how to make the adjustments. The current append query, appends all students in the teachers class to the same breakfast order. This needs to be done individually (each student
may have a different order). It all needs to be based on just the information (values) on the form (more parameters are needed). I figured out how to do it. Once I've got the finished product I'll post the update SQL and code.

DB:3.04:Cascading Combo Boxes In Nested Subforms cc

    hey guys,

i have been literally bumping my head into walla for the last week.
i am working on a super complicated database with the following:
    mainform: frmCust
    Subform: frmOrd
    subform: frmCamps
    Subform: frmProdFam
    Subfrom: frmProd

the 5 forms are linked within each other (nested) so frmProd is a subform in frmProdFam and frmProdFam is a subform in frmCamps and so on.

the problem is that i need to synchronize 3 combo boxes:

you choose a campaign type from frmCamps, which needs to filter data is a combo box Product Family in frmProdFam which in returns filters data in combo box producst in frmProd.

usually the formula [forms]![mainforms]![subform]!combobox and the an after update and a requery does the job, but i just cant get it to work in here. any ideas?

DB:3.04:Cascading Combo Boxes In Nested Subforms cc

There are three processes operating here:

    1. By linking the subform to its parent in the usual way by means of the LinkMasterFields and LinkChildFields properties of the subform control, when you move to a record in the 'master', which might be the main form or a subform which has a subform within
it, the value of the foreign key column in every row of the 'child' subform's recordset will be that of the primary key of the current record in the 'master'.

    2. In an unbound combo box in the subform you then just need to reference the foreign key column in the subform's recordset as the parameter in the combo box's RowSource property. By requerying the combo box in the subform's Current event procedure the combo
box's list is restricted to those rows where the value of the column in the combobox's RowSource query matches the current foreign key value in the subform's recordset. By also setting the value of the combo box to that of the primary key of the subform's
recordset the combo box is synchronized with the current record selected in the subform.

    3. The code in the combo box's AfterUpdate event procedure moves the subform to the record selected in the combo box in the way I described earlier.

I had a subform with info already in it.
I made a new form with tabs on the top.
I placed the subform on the first tab page. There are 2 sets of record selectors, one at the very bottom, one on the subform.
When I click on the record selectors on the very bottom each record shows up correctlythat was in the original form
The subform I noticed also has record selectors, but only shows 1 record.
If i do a search for say last name, it says it doesn't exist, but I know it's because within the subform there is only 1 record. I have this linked by the same ID (tutors)
Parent child. does anyone have any idea why once I place the subform on the tabbed page it only shows the one record?
How do I fix this, I am a novice

When a subform control is requeried, what events on the subform does the requery action trigger?

DB:3.04:What Events Are Triggered By Requery 1j

Quite a few. If the current record is dirty, then you might get a control's Before and After Update events followed by the form's Before and After Update and maybe After Insert events and the Dirty property is set to False. Oh wait, that already happend
before the requery because the focus moved back to the main form when you clicked anywhere in the main form.

The subform's record source is reloaded, which triggers the subform's Current event as the first record is made current. There may be some painting, etc.events too. A good way for you to check this is to add a Debug.Print "name of event" to every possible
event procedure in the subform (tedious, but faster than trying to get a definitive reply from a forum).

I always use the syntax Me.subformcontrol.Form.Requery to requery the subform so I'm not sure requerying the subform control does the same thing. It used to in older versions, but I haven't tried requerying the subform control in a long time.

    Hello,

    Forms(gForm)(gControl).Value = Me.txtZoom
This works fine if I access a form itself.
This code bombs if I try to access a control on a subform.
Does anybody know if I can do this using a form/subform construct?
    Thanks.

DB:3.03:Subform Naming Convention Using The Forms Command In Vba 91

    Hi there,
In this case, I want to assign the form and subform name to a variable called gForm, and the control to a variable called gControl, and use the coding convention I outlined above:
    Forms(gForm) (gControl).
In this case, how would I format the value that is assigned to gForm?

you just can't combine YourForm and YourSubForm in a single variable - you'll need to stick with the convention. That is,
Forms!FormName!SubFormControlName.Form!ControlName or Forms(FormName)(SubFormControlName).Form(ControlName) (or any given combination of the two).Cheers,

opens the form the subform will display the records of the filtered query and the user can move forward and backward through the records, then if the user wants to find a specific person's name in the subform they can select the name from the combo box and
the subform will move to that record. Could you let me know the vba commmands for the comboI would need to accomplish this. I tried to use a master/child link between the combo box and subform but this prevents the records in the subform from appearingwhen
the form is first open. Thanks.

DB:3.03:Find First Occurance In Subform pf

If I am understanding you correctly, what you can do is set the Recordsource of the subform to something like this ...
SELECT * FROM someQueryOrTableObject WHERE someField = [someCombo] Or [someCombo] Is Null

Now when you open the Main form, the combo willlikely default to a Null value and thus all your records will show, but when you select an item in the combo box, your records in displayed in the subform control will be filtered to the records that match
the criteria. By using this technique, there is no need for VBA.Brent Spaulding | Access MVP

DB:3.02:Macro Cant Find Control On Form xf

Scenario: Access 2010 web database being published to SharePoint (Office365).

I have six fields ona form where I have a relatively simple AfterUpdate macro that does a quick data validation check to verify the input value is within the range we're expecting. This particular form is embedded as a subform on another form. That parent
form is a navigation subform on the main navigation form. So - Forms!MainNav!NavigationSubform.Form!Child1.Form . . .

The problem I have is with the simple AfterUpdate macros that check the value of the current field. The first field is intStartHr - its AfterUpdate macro does a simple value check ( If((intStartHr 0) AND (intStartHr 13)) ... When accessing the
form viaSharePoint, and running it as a subform -that If statment generates an error stating "The object doesn't contain the object 'intStartHr'". If I open the same form as astand-alone dialog form, themacros execute work as expected anddon't throw
    any errors.

However, I can place a MessageBox action before this If statment, with the Message being = [intStartHr] and that will correctly display twhatever value was entered in the field when running the form as a subform. I'm trying to figure out why I can reference
a control in the active subform using just the control name with a MessageBox command, but not with an If statement or even a SetLocalVariable statement. Does anyone have any insight into this one?

In the mean time, I've implemented a fairly ugly workaround where I set a tempvar every time the form is opened letting me know where it is opened from. My macros then check the tempvar value, and execute essentially the same commands in each If / Else
If branch, just using different fully-qualified paths to the controls on the form. Unfortunately, this particular form is accessed either as a subform on multiple navigation forms (depending on user role)or even as a dialog for data-entry - which is what
makes this workaround ugly - having to allow for every location the form exists

    Thanks!

DB:3.02:Macro Cant Find Control On Form xf

    Just updating this thread -

This did end up being a SharePoint server-side issue with Office365. About 10 days ago all of our data macros stopped working at the exact same time - regardless of if the user was using the web interface or the Access client. (We were getting a "Failed
to start data macro" error every time). It took about a week for Office365 to get the ticket escalated to the SharePoint operations team and for them to get the data macros running again. Since that point, the original issue with macros not being able to
find bound controls on forms hasn't resurfaced either.

I didn't see an input mask.
The way I solved it is to go back to the Tasks table, delete the Grand Total field, and create a new GrandTotal field, make it Calculated field, and set formula to =[Cost]*[Quantity]*(1+([VAT]/100))
Then go into the Tasks subform and set the Control Source for the Grand Total field to GrandTotal.

As an aside, it is bad practice to use the range from 0-100 for percent fields like VAT. It's easier and more regular to use 0-1, and format the field as percent. Of course that changes your formula to =[Cost]*[Quantity]*(1+[VAT])

It's nice to know Adobe added that inheritance starting with Acrobat 9. If you have control over a user's Acrobat level, that's definitely a WAY better option than the loop. I have a table within a positioned subform and if there are more rows in the table than space in the subform, the data overflows past the boundaries of the subform. I want the data to be cut off at the boundary, such as how you can select for a field to "Limit Length to Visible Area" so that the text in the field doesn't go past the field size. I don't even want it to flow to another page, just cut it off so that it doesn't print over other fields that are below the subform on the page. Anyone know how to do this?

DB:2.99:Is There A Way To Contain An Expanding Table So That It Does Not Overflow? 7z

Neither. I want the table to expand, but not past the boundaries of its 'container.' By container I just mean the subform that it's wrapped in that I set to be a certain height on the form. The table itself I cannot limit by row count because I don't know how many rows it will take to fill up the space I set for the subform, because cells are expandable. Therefore any single row may take up only 1 line, or 10 lines if there is a lot of text in it. If all the rows were only 1 line, of course I could easily limit my table to N rows, but since I don't know how many lines any particular row will take up, I can't do that.

A from has a subform control on it. The subform control has a form loaded. During the resize event of the parent form the subform control is resized. If the subform is increased in size the form in it is also increased in size. However,
there does not appear to be a way to reduce the size of the SubFrom control since the form it contains does not shrink. The subform has the Can Shrink property set to Yes. There does not appear to be an equivalent property for a form. I tried
using the form's move method to resize it before shrinking the subform controlbut Access threw an error -- which is reasonable as the subform control will try to keep the form at the same size.
I could unload the form in the subform controlby setting the subform's objectsource to , resize the subform control and then reload the form into the subform by setting the subform's objectsource to the form's name. That seems like a lot of
    overhead.
Is there another way to shrink the form/subform control?

DB:2.98:Problem With Resizing A Subform Control With A Form In It j7

It appears that the parent form has some sort of corruption. I wasable to expand and shrink the subform control and the form in it. However, if I put a button in the parent form's header and anchor it to the top right it moves when the
form is maximized but doesn't move back when it is restored. It appears that the form's window is widening and shrinking but the form itself is not.
The parent form is relatively complex with around a hundread controls that are made visible/invisible depending on the context the application is in. The only control on the parent form that is changed when it is maximized is the subform in the form's footer.

What this does is it will set the focus to the second subform; however, before LostFocus is run apparently Access thinks "okay, next record in SubForm1" so when LostFocus is run it moves my focus to SubForm2, but the record in SubForm2 that relates to the
subsequent record in SubForm1 (ie,I end up being in the second subform like I want, but for the detail of the next record in SubForm1).
If anyone follows what I just said there then wow !
Is there a good fix? I have been able to fix it by creating a blank text box where I create a tab stop after my last field update where the LostFocus procedure is run after -- it just seems like bad practice to create a textbox with a tab stop simply to
get around an issue. It seems there should be a way to say "don't lose focus on this field yet (so I don't move to the next record) - instead just go to this other subform . . ."
Any response is appreciated - even if the response is just telling me that what I did was probably the best way to handle it because there is not way of saying "BeforeLostFocus" . . . I'd see that as an answered question.

After lots of googling, it seems many people have this problem with GUIDs in SQL and have done through many versions of Access. It's very frustrating. Be nice if MS fixed it ;-)

    Access 2010, Win 8
I have a form "ResourceForm" that has a command button "More Details"to make a subform visible. Once the subform, "ResourceCSubform"is visible, it has a command button "Close" to make it un-visible.

    I have tried:
    Me.Visible=False
    and
    DoCmd.Close, "ResourceCSubform"

in the OnClick ofthe "Close"command button but it does NOT work.

Can you offer some code or method that will hide the subform with a button click??

    Thanks,
    Max

DB:2.94:Hide Subform With Command Button f1

You first have to move focus from the subform by setting it to any control in the parent form. You can then hide the subform control:

    Me.Parent.cboOffice.SetFocus
    Me.Parent.ResourceCSubform.Visible = False

where cboOffice is the combo box in your parent form, and ResourceCSubform is the name of the subform control, i.e. the control which houses the subform. This might or might not be the same as the name of its source form object.

I am having a rather annoying problem with an Access form on SharePoint. The form form works (partially- it is still a work in progress) when loaded in MS Access, and according to the web compatibility checker, it is perfectly valid. However,
when I try to open it in SharePoint, I receive the following error (in the subform area of the main form, which should contain timesheet data for the currently-logged-in user):

The Form 'Child100' is not available.
I am a bit worried by a forum post I found from 3 years ago claiming that datasheet view is not supported for 64-bit versions of Office, but I can view lists in datasheet view without issue. Yet I can't even open the subform on it's own (which also
works fine in Access). Does anyone know what might be causing
EDIT: As it turns out, the 64-bit issue is not the problem, as I apparently have 32-bit Office products.

I'm not certain if I'm understanding it correctly, but I don't think that a summary query will give me the look I need- I am looking for something like the following:

Add a textbox to the header or footer of the subform. Set its Nameproperty totxtRecordCount and set its
ControlSource to =Count(*). You can also set
Visible to No as you probably don't want the count to be displayed in that position.

Next, create a textbox on the main form with this ControlSource:
    =[SubformControlName].[Form]![txtRecordCount]
(replace "SubformControlName" with the name of the control which contains your subform)

This textbox will display the number of members showing in the subform at any time.

    You do something like this:
    Me!YourSubformName.Form.RecordSource =SELECT * FROM YOURTABLEorQUERYNAME WHERE YOURFIELDNAME = ' Me.YourParameterNameOnMainFormHere '

Changing the Recordsource of your Subform.

I am working on fixing a form in Designer.

I am using LC Designer ES2 on Windows 7.

The form was originally inported from a PDF asset that was created with some other software program.

The last developer worked through the code, and did an okay job - but I am going through and doing some cleanup.

As part of the cleanup work, I am having to unwrap a subform that contains a ton of objects including more subforms.

The issue is that everytime I try to unwrap or delete the subform, Designer instantly crashes and I get the Microsoft C++ Runtime Error seen here:

Now - I am aware that one possible fix to this is to go into ~user\MyName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat and delete the 9.0 folder to reset a corrupted profile - but this does not fix the problem.

Does anyone have any idea why this would happen every time that I try to unwrap or delete this subform?

And if so - does anyone know a possible fix?

If you require more data about my system setup or about the assets I am using, just ask and I will be happy to provide more information.

Please let me know - and thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Thanks -

    Ben L.

DB:2.92:I Am Getting The Microsoft C++ Runtime Error In Designer When I Try To Unwrap A Subform 9d

Well, I don't know if was a best-practice fix - but in MacGuyver-style, I renamed the file extention.

    myForm.xdp to myForm.xdp.xml

Then I opened the file in Notepad ++, did a search for the subform name (as it appeared in Designer).

There I found I found the subform tag - so I deleted that tag and its matching, closing tag to eliminate that wrapping.

Then I renamed the extention to XDP, reopened in Designer, and now it appears to be working.

Pro-tip for those that don't know and may find themselves in a similar situation to me, XDP forms are essentailly just XML - so if you can read and navigate the XML, you can fix things like this.

Ive hit a snag in access2010 that I dont think Ive had before.

I have a blank form (unbound).

Onto this I put a subform that is in datasheet view.

When the user MOVEs to a new line on the datasheet I want to be able to display a second subform(also a datasheet) on the same blank form.

This works fine if I use the On Click Event but if I use the got Focus or On Enter then the form fails as it is trying to
    load with a

run time error You entered an expression that has an invalid reference to the property form / report.

Once the form is loaded these things seem to be OK and I can use the down arrow to got from line to line in the first subform and the second subform displays the correct
    values.

Now I really dont want my users the have to click to move down the first subform, I want them to be able to use the down arrow.

Does anyone have a worksround for this little challenge. Presumably it is because access tries to load the second subform before having all the ducks in a row. If
I take the code out of Got focus or On Enter then it works just fine but only on Clicks.

For those of you that say it must be the subform control references then here they are :-

We upgraded the MDAC from 2.5 to 2.8 on the workstations so that they could communicate with the new SQL server (they couldn't when MDAC 2.5 was installed), and everything works - execpt for one command in one form.  The form has an activate event that checks whether its subform is dirty before proceeding, and when that check is run I now get an Error 2455: You entered an expression that has an invalid reference to the property form/report.  The code looks like this:

Where frmROC_sHrs, obviously, is the subform that the main form is trying to access.

Can anyone help with this?  If we roll back the MDAC, and connect the workstation to the old server, this command works fine.  Does anyone know why it wouldn't work with the new MDAC?  Any help is greatly, greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

My office is currently running Windows 2000 workstations connected to a Windows 2000 server.  We run an adp/ade in Access 2000 connected to SQL Server 7.0.  We are in the process of upgrading to a Windows 2003 server running SQL Server 2005.  We won't be replacing the workstations immediately, so we need the adp to continue working in Access 2000.

    If Not Me.frmROC_sHrs.Form.Dirty Then

Where frmROC_sHrs, obviously, is the subform that the main form is trying to access.

Can anyone help with this?  If we roll back the MDAC, and connect the workstation to the old server, this command works fine.  Does anyone know why it wouldn't work with the new MDAC?  Any help is greatly, greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Thank you for the prompt reply. The code execution is in the MainForm so your first example worked. Much appreciated.

DB:2.89:Test Presentment Jfmerge Output Are Different mc

I have a form with subforms in Output Designer that works almost perfectly when using Test Presentment. I can live with the imperfection (the "footer" subform from page 1 prints on page 3). When I take the same test file, add the ^job line and the ^form line and run it on Central Pro it doesn't produce the same results with JFMERGE. In fact, it fouls up big time.

This is a 3 page form comprised totally of subforms. It has no global fields. Page 1 is comprised of the subform for the top half with some fields and then a column header subform followed by a detail line subform for repeating. The column header goes on the top of an "overflow" page if the number of detail lines cause a page full condition. Page 2 is a single subform with some data fields. Page 3 contains a single subform with a field. Everything on page 1 except the detail line is labeled as a "header" subform. The detail line is a "detail" subform. Pages 2 3 are "trailer" subforms.

With Test Presentment I get page 1 with data, page 2 with data, page 3 with data; just as I should. After compiling the form and using the same DAT file (with ^job ^form added) I get page 1 just fine, page 2 with no data, page 3, a blank page, page 2 with data, page 3, a blank page, page 3, page 2 with no data, page 3, a blank page. Only the third occurance of page 3 has the footer from page 1.

This is my first intelligent form and even though I know next to nothing about the preamble it looks just fine.

Anyone have any idea what I can do to get the JFMERGE output to produce the same thing as Test Presentment does?

DB:2.89:Test Presentment Jfmerge Output Are Different mc

Just a follow up to close this thread.

I sent my files to Chris and he responded with the solution, which he had alluded to in his first response to this thread. Dynamic forms
    b must
have the -aapoff option. I had initially stated I couldn't use the parameter because of all our other forms and using a common job task. Chris pointed out that if I added it to the ^form statement that it would override any other occurances. Now, with that parameter, the actual creation of the PDF by jfmerge matches what is produced by test presentment. I just need to get with the programmer responsible for creating the DAT file and determine the best way to get the parameter added.

    Thanks, Chris.

DB:2.88:Stopping People From Deleting Records In A Subform 8m

I have a form with a subform. I would like to stop people from deleting records in the subform. I know under properties in the main form that I can change delete records to NO but no such property exist under the subform. I only want people to edit
    the records only.

DB:2.88:Stopping People From Deleting Records In A Subform 8m

The subform object contains a Form object. Open the form in design view; right-click the little square box at the upper left corner of the subform; and select Properties from the dropdown. These are the Form properties (distinct from the properties of the
Subform container); one of them is Allow Deletes.

DB:2.88:Dlookup Not Working In Access Subform kj

    Hello,

I have a text box with a DLOOKUP as the control source on an subform called
FRM2_Director subformwithin a main form "FRM1_Employee Input. The subform also contains a field in a textbox [Title_NameID] thatdisplays the number for the title of each Director in the database. Finally, I have a table called
Title_Name that contains two fields: "Title_NameID", and "Title_Name".My situation is this: Usinga textbox inside the subform, I'd like to useDLOOKUP toretrieve the title name from the "Title_Name" table for each Director rather than just displaying
the title number that is there currently. I have tried variious configurations of the following expression, but im at my wits end now:

    =DLookUp("TITLE_NAME","Title_Name","'Title_NameID='" [Forms]![FRM1_Employee_Input]![FRM2_Director Subform])

Can anyone please tell me where I am going wrong in writing the DLOOKUP code? (I hope I've given enough information; however, if not, please let me know. Thank youin advance.

    DB:2.88:Subform With Multiple Lines. 98

I am using Access 2003. I am creating a form to mail special items out to customers. I have one data base for customer name and address and another Db for the line items of that are shipping. Since we can ship up to 4 items at one time I created a form
(subform)for this item Db that lists each item to be shipped in 4 separate lines. Therefore I have a one to many relationship.

Now I want to create a form to input all of the information with the subform that I created for the items Db. But the subform came out asstrictly one line with all 4 items listed in one row. How do I get this to list each item on a separate row in the
subform? Can anyone help me?? - aurora

    DB:2.88:Subform With Multiple Lines. 98

What is the structure of your tables? You should have an Order table and an order details table. The Order details should have a record for each item in the order.

DB:2.88:Can I Use Different Queries To Create A Subform xc

Can I use different queries to create a SubForm?
When I use 2 different queries to create a Subform it does not let me input anything under the subform. This is the message that it gave me:

"The Microsoft Office Access database engine cannot find a record in the table "XXXXX Tbl " with key matching field(s) 'XXXXX ID'

    Thanks
    Hannah

DB:2.88:Can I Use Different Queries To Create A Subform xc

For a very simple example of this take a look at the ParentActivities.zip in my public databases folder at:

    https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=44CC60D7FEA42912id=44CC60D7FEA42912!169

You might have to copy the text of the link into your browser's address bar (not the link location). For some reason it doesn't always seem to work as a hyperlink.

The parent form's RecordSource property is a query on the parents table, the subform's RecordSource property is a query which joins the ParentActivities and Activities table and allows rows in the former of these to be entered or edited. The parent form and
subform are linked by setting the subform control's LinkMasterFields and LinkChildFields properties to ParentID, this being the name of the primary key column of the Parents table and the foreign key column in the ParentActivities table which references it.

I have two subforms (multi-items) within a standard form. Each subform's has a different datasource (tables) and are linked with master/child to the main form. While the Client view (of a published database on SP 2010) renders correctly,
in the browser, subform 1 renders incorrectly. No color, no background. Subform 2renders correctly. Other than rendering, both forms work correctly. Has anyone experienced this issue?

    Hi Richard,
Since the issue only was reproduced in Chrome, I suggest that you use IE as a woraround.
There is a known issue with IE 9 and below that involves CSS. Have not confirmed that CSS is the problem here,
I am not sure about the issue that you metioned, but if you have any issue about IE, I suggest that you get more effective response from link below:

    DB:2.87:2007 Subform Events Firing pj

I have vba in the OnExit event of a text box in a subform - but it is definitely firing before one exits the text box - - - - haven't totally isolated but seems to be firing on focus of the subform.....
Anyone out there know about this?

    DB:2.87:2007 Subform Events Firing pj

Okay. Sounds like you're fine now.
If you are merely tracking when the user visited a record, Form_Current might help. If you are tracking when an edit begins, Form_Dirty might work. If you want to know when the user starts entering a new record, Form_BeforeInsert works well.

DB:2.87:Displaying Tabular Data Like A Datasheet In A Report sx

I know I can embed a subform (that contains a datasheet) in a report using the subform/subreport control. Unfortunately, despite using abbreviations as much as possible, the column headings in my datasheet are still fairly long, even though the
data within each column is only a few characters long. And since column headings in a datasheet can't wrap, does anyone know of an alternative solution that will give me the same effect as a datasheet, except with wrapping column headings.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    ***** UPDATE *****
Please note that there is a one-to-many relationship between the Record Source of my report and the Record Source of my subform/subreport.

DB:2.87:Displaying Tabular Data Like A Datasheet In A Report sx

No, a report can display 1:M data without a subreport. For example if you have a query with customers and orders, you can use the report wizard and tell it to group by customer. Customer fields would go in that grouping level, and order fields in
    the Details section.
Thanks for your feedback. I wanted to mark it as one of the Answers, but unfortunately, Microsoft only allows a maximum of two Answers.

Thanks again for your suggestion about using the Grouping feature. That did the trick.

I have a main form with several subforms inside it which works perfectly well, but now I need to have a subform of a subform. I have created the required table and if I insert it into the form it works fine. However, there is really no space to insert the
new subform. What I ideally want to do is to click a button and the new subform to open in its own window, and then fill in the information which are only dates.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

    DB:2.87:Subform mj

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have a main form about individuals inside which I have a subform (among many) about the many jobs that individual can do. I now want to be able to say a number of dates that this job was inspected. SO basically it is a subform inside a subform, as far
as I can see. I have created a new table to store the dates linking it to the JobID. So far it works well if I insert it into the Jobs subform but there isn't really room as it would mean re-designing the layout of the main form which is something I'm loathe
to do. Therefore the need for the subform. I thought I could place a button to open the linked subform, fill in the details. I'm not sure what you mean by a synchronised form so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
