    Hello Virya.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode (don't forget to select Disable all add-ons when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme and this one for plugins.

If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.

P.S. It's possible that an add-on from a location outside of Firefox is causing the crashes. Since you have Firefox 3.6 installed, try starting in Firefox Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode using the Start menu shortcut. In Windows, open the All Programs list, click on the yellow Mozilla Firefox folder and then click on "Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)" to see if Firefox starts up with the "Firefox Safe Mode" dialog. If it does, select the "Disable all add-0ns" option and then click "Make Changes and Restart" which will restart Firefox with all plugins and extensions disabled. See the Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode article for details.

I see no reason why Firefox 5 would prevent you using this website. If you have problems with this forum they may still occur if you downgrade.

Note on the subject of Firefox 5 there is an add on [compatibility reporter] if your problems are related to add-ons that worked with Firefox 4 but will not work with Firefox 5 it is possible downloading and running that add-on may resolve the issue.

Official policy is that Firefox 4 is now unsupported, insecure, and should not be used. Downgrading should for now be to Firefox 3.6 ; but that may not be supported for much longer.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Tools Options Advanced General Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools Add-ons Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools Add-ons Appearance
Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

    (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

Firefox crashes unexpectedly and intermittently. The crash reporter does not appear and I am unable to restore tabs from my previous session before the crash. This has been happening in the last few releases. I'm currently running 11.0. The crash does not display on the about:crashes page. Typically when Firefox would crash I could open a new window and I would then be giving the option to restore my session. However, now when I open a new window after a crash it is a blank page. Did you try a clean reinstall (delete the Firefox program folder) and a new profile?

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

    Firefox 11.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.

Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

    See also:

    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile

One of my website in particular faces a lot of issue while I work on Firefox. When I open http://www.time2.co/ after sometime the Firefox crashes. Is the working of Firefox also depends upon the bandwidth of the website and other such things. Google Chrome seems to work just fine.

DB:2.63:The Firefox Crashes Unexpectedly In Every Few Hours z1

    Hi simplyme4you,

If the problem is with the website you will probably need to look elsewhere for webdesign advice. However I may expect bandwidth problems to cause hangs or freezes rather than crashes unless the problem is extreme. Also as it is a commercial site you will need to determine if it is causing problems in Firefox as that could affect business.

Does the problem occur if you merely open your site as an ordinary user and leave it open. (If it does it is easy for me or anyone else to test that). I guess though it is likely you need to remain active on the site before problems occur.

Your site uses Flash Player content and I am guessing the problem could be due to a Flash 11.3 problem.

As a test downgrade a machine to use Flash 10.3 and try to reproduce the problem. Instructions for downgrading currently are still here

Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again
very good information will also be found in mozillazine articles such as http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Flash_Player_11.3_Protected_Mode_-_Windows

    NOTE
Very recent security announcement has resulted in probable change of official Firefox advice; but my personal view, is the exploit apparently requires opening of a manipulated word document, so low risk of using Flash 10.3 in troubleshooting as long as one is careful about what is opened.

    Crashes
If you are actually getting firefox crashes use about:crashes and post a couple of recent CrashIDs into your next post, preferably from Firefox being used in safe mode with FlashPlayer as the only plugin. If possible;for comparison; also post a couple whilst Flash 10.3 is installed.

see Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes
and Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode

Post back with more information once you have had time to test out those ideas and read the linked articles.

    Cheers John

The official, not yet updated advice is:

Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox 13 are most probably caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and/or a malfunctioning Real Player browser plugin.

In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:

Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems

Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again

Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox

SQLite is the engine that Firefox uses to handle SQLite (*.sqlite) database files.

I read a lot of pages on this and one finally gave me a solution. The current Flash Player has a bug. To test that, go to ToolsAdd-onsPlugins and turn off Shockwave Flash. Then try to go to CNN, the New York Times, or Yahoo Mail. If it fixes the problem, then this buggy Flash Player is at fault.

It was suggested that you download the beta version 10.2 here:

Just pick the one that says: Download plug-in for 32-bit Mac OS X32-bit (DMG, 5.5 MB)

    Hi,

You can try to update Firefox to see if the crash is solved: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

If the problem persists in a new profile, please check in a new profile. If the new profile is okay, you can later copy the needed personal data from the old profile. Firefox stores your personal data and settings in another location (profile folder) separate from its files/folder. A new profile would have the default Firefox settings (Tools (Alt + T) Options, and about:config ), and usually would also be empty of any Extensions and themes (Appearance) in Tools Add-ons) and their settings. Also, a new profile would have no previous stored website data/settings etc., (Tools Clear Recent History).

If Firefox works fine in Safe Mode, then this is likely an add-on issue. Restart Firefox in normal mode, then type "About:addons" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Disable your extensions one by one, restarting Firefox between each one, until you find the trouble maker. Once you do, you can disable that add-on and report the issue to that add-on's developer.

A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.

Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers.

Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/.

Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.

Firefox version both 13.0.1 and 14.0.1 crashes.
    I'm using Bitdefender IS 2013.

    DB:2.52:Firefox Crashes 3c

    Chosen Solution

I bought and installed Bitdefender antivirus plus 2013 having used McAfee for 15 years, a big mistake. Bitdefender software is full of bugs which manifest themselves across a number of browsers. I have since purged it from my PC and returned to McAfee.

I have 4 browsers installed and can confidently confirm that Bitdefender is not compatible with my favourite browser, Firefox 15. Even with antiphising disabled it screws Firefox up repeatedly freezing screens, particularly on Flash videos, and in most cases requiring a Task Master process to terminate Firefox, or worse still a reboot if Firefox goes into Safe Mode when restarted.

Quick test: Load "The Beatles - Abbey Road - YouTube" switch back and forwards between the standard screen and full screen at a normal rate, occasionally changing the time scrollbar, and when on the standard screen scroll it up and down. Guaranteed to freeze.

The Bitdefender product is nowhere remotely intuitive and the Help File is woefully lacking in content. Bitdefender support is next to non-existent, they just ignore requests for assistance, possibly hoping you will just give up and blame someone else like Firefox or Adobe. They have obviously not tested their product with a range of browsers and the most commonly used add-ons.

It is not up to Firefox or Adobe to make their software work with an antivirus product, quite the contrary; and I know of at least one that works perfectly.

My advice is do not use Bitdefender if you want troublefree browsing with Firefox.

Are you using the Google website as the startup home page?

A possible cause is a problem with the doodles that Google is currently using on its main search page.

It is probably easiest to choose a different home (startup) page like about:home or use the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar to initiate the searches for now.

I don't know how to submit information to Mozilla, therefore I have no crash ID.

I am not clear on whether you are describing a crash with a crash message or just sudden closing of FF. In my case, it's a sudden closing of FF. If I open FF usig the icon in my quick launch bar, it's fine until I change the URL, then it closes. If I open FF from a link in any email, FF opens and immediately closes. Does the same advice apply to my specific situation? Thanks.

since upgrading last night, firefox is crashing randomly. Doesn't matter the website, or even in the tools-addons menu. Just crashes unexpectedly. I've reinstalled, and reinstalled flash and java. nothing works. I have put this same email address in the crash reports, but have none saved.

Mozilla firefox crashes unexpectedly. Several days ago I used GNOME and I have the same problem. Now I use Openbox. The crashes are not frequent five - six times a day. I have not noted any circumstances which generate a crash. I can say that crashes occur without adobeFlash.

My arch system is recently installed, so I forgot to set a swap partition in fstab. Since I have done that I dont have crashes, but this period is too short ( less than 2 days) to be confident. But still I think that could influence to Firefox stability.

Firefox won't open, and crashes every time.

Instead of just saving your favourites also save the whole profile, including subfolders and files. See

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer (equivalent to favorites)
Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

Did you try starting in safemode as I suggested, and did you try a clean profile as suggested by co-rel ?

The next step is to try a clean install, that entails deleting the program folder and is explained in :

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall

Try that in safemode, with only the default theme, and with plugins disabled. Please post back with how you get on. If you still have crashes include the latest crash ID in your post.

If that fails, consider a complete removal of Firefox, AFTER you have saved your bookmarks and profile.
