DB:4.59:Mfi Reverting To Adopting Issue And Result (Bug Report) kk

I have had issues with mports reverting to adopting at random times.

    See post: Mport-reverts-to-adopting-at-random-times

This has occurred with the standard current sensor and with a custom LM35 temperature sensor. In the device log it will show up as a
    May 5 08:37:19 mFi user.info syslog: ace_reporter.initialize_port_configs(): invalid pwr_volt value, defaults to 0
. The mport will reconnect after a telnet reboot or power cycle but will revert to adopting after hours or days.

I'm not sure if this problem is firmware, mfi software or some other issue but the greater problemis that the Mfi controller doesn't think the device is disconnected and thereby able to send a notification of disconnection. Instead it sits there in an endless adopting cycle. It makes it impossible to trust the Mfi controller to work.

Mfi needs to have a setting to auto reboot a misbehaving mport and create a log entry or notification

and at a minimum be able to detect that a once connected/functioning mport is not connected and send a notification.

Once the server was given an ip on the same subnet as the mport the problem has stopped. The Mport doesn't like to be routed when speaking to the server (at least on a local network.)

    hi,

i have received my 1st EU mpower device and can not get it to find a wireless network. it keeps scanning and the select button is faded and i cant click it. how can i overcome the issue ? my mport has no issues finding and connecting to the AP. its an AirRouter. i have tried a factory reset of the mpower, no success. same issue.

also i have noticed there must be a huge mess in the mfi software, i only get IE8 to work kind of. neither firefox (win and mac os) now safari work.

    Hi guys,

    Im running into a problem.

Some time ago I had the issue that I couldn't run UniFi and mFi on the same machine, no matter what I tried.

At that time I didn't have a way to seperate these two, as my Server 2012 Foundation didn't support virtualization.

I reinstalled my servers with Server 2012 Standard, and have one Server 2012 Core running in Hyper-V.

The virtual server is my UniFi server now, which is working like a charm, as always.

However, whenever I install the mFi software, I get nothing.

The software starts. It says that the controller is started, but when I open the webpage.... Nothing!

I have tried changing the ports. I have completely switched of my local firewall. But nothing seems to help.

Anyone here have any ideas, on what I could try?

There are many adoption agencies in SL. My first suggestion is to go through the Search. Check each of them out. As I recall, there are boards on the wall with kids looking for parents and parents looking for kids. When you find one you like, it sends out a notecard telling the child that you are interested in adopting them.

As with any other RP, I would suggest not taking the first child that responds to you request...get to know them, make sure you're compatable...especially with timezones..it's not worth it to adopt a kid if you're never on at the same time.

Depending on how old the child is, you'll need certain things. Cribs, diapers, beds etc.

    Good luck..hope that helps.

No matter what, when the option pops up to adopt, the devices go "adopting" and then are no longer seen by mfi. I get something like this:

Er, yesterday I was playing with an mPower, telnet and all, no trouble. Had great fun.

Fresh out of the box, joined my WPA2 network, I adopted it from mFi on the Mac, upgraded the firmware some time later. No fuss.

Today, I plugged a mPower-3 and I've not been able to access these (neither the new one nor the first one) over telnet. Or ssh. Or anything. I can telnet into the device on its default IP when connected to the mfi_ABCDEF configuration SSID, but even if it successfully connects to the wifi and grabs an IP from the router over DHCP, i can't ping them, telnet to them or even adopt them.

They briefly show in mFi, long enough to be listed as unnamaged, but adoption fails.

I don't care about adoption, all I need is telnet in fact.

I searched the forums. I setup an open SSID, no luck. I resetted both mPower plugs from the reset button several times. I issued the restore-default from the /sbin/something script.

I rebooted the mac, the AP, the router.

I'm about to set fire to the whole lot. Version is2.0.24.

I have a mPower Pro (8 socket) unit that will connect to wifi network just fine, adopt on the controller, and will stay connected for about a day and then it will drop wifi and the controller will show it as adopting. If you try to connect to the mpower directly by it's ip during one of these wifi drops it will not connect. I have to power cycle the unit for it to be functional again. After power cycle it reconnects to the wifi network and to the controller as if nothing had happened.

I have tried removing it from the controller and readopting, resetting the unit, reconfiguring the wifi, nothing seems to make a difference.

I have tried in this order:
normal set up with controller info
normal set up without controller info (box not checked)
connecting the units via wifi and then assigning them the static IPs (static IPs assigned by mac address from ERLite:192.168.2.41,192.168.2.42)

Both units can be seen by the controller after assigning the IPs.
Both keep their "last seen" value under 15 seconds indefinitely until I click "Adopt" at which point they stay as "Adopting" indefinitely ( I left them for 4 days as "Adopting" and then tried every reset I could think of including taking them out of the wall and rewiring, using the reset power clip thing, restoring to factory defaults)

Possibly related is the amount of data they have downloaded, and the fact that my mFi app is now about 70Gb (I'm honestly not sure how large it was before but I am pretty sure it was a lot smaller)?

    Hi Forum Members,

I have purchased an mFi in-wall outlet and am now trying to get it connected to the controller software.

The outlet is showing 'green' connected to my wifi network when I connect to the 192.168.2.20 address.

It's running firmware 2.0.25.1238. I first installed the latest Windows version of the controller software on Win 7 64bit. https://ip:6443 showed the GUI and had the Outlet as "pending". Trying to import it left it at status "adopting" but it never got active.

So I thought I'd give the Ubuntu version a try, could be a Windows issue after all. Installed Ubuntu 14.04 and al the required software. Again, I get https://ip:6443 on the ubuntu VM without issues, again it shows my device in 'pending' and if I try to install it, it's again stuck at "adopting".

This is only used in the E-Mail template. You can insert your public IP or your DNS name and the public HTTPS port (eg. 6443). If you leave it empty, the default interface IP will be used in the mail.

For mFi you have to allow 6080/tcp for device inform and 6443/tcp to access the controller interface.

    DB:2.65:Mfi Won't Start On Ubuntu 10.04 3s

Interestingly enough you lead me to the solution to my problem of the mFi controller not launching on my Window7 Pro 64-bit machine:

I did not have enough free space on my C-drive for the mongodb to start (from: C:\Users\spock\Ubiquiti mFi\logs\server.log):

Mon Dec 30 18:46:31.536 [initandlisten] ERROR: Insufficient free space for journal filesMon Dec 30 18:46:31.536 [initandlisten] Please make at least 3379MB available in C:\Users\spock\Ubiquiti mFi\data\db\journal or use --smallfilesMon Dec 30 18:46:31.536 [initandlisten]Mon Dec 30 18:46:31.536 [initandlisten] exception in initAndListen: 15926 Insufficient free space for journals, terminating

I only had 3GB of free space (I run an old OCZ 60GB SSD as my boot drive - so not a lot of room there). Once I freed more than the ~3.4GB needed for mongodb initialization, and killed the old Java processes (that were keeping the ports open), the controller started up correctly.

So, moral of the story, if mFi is not launching for you, make sure you have enough free space on the drive on which the mFi controller is installed.

Now the mFi controller is starting and running fine.

Could you detail how to activate the L3 Management mFi devices ?

    DB:2.62:Mfi L3 Management f9

Very familiar ( Now !) with UNifi L2 L3. I have my own servers and 2 AWS servers, love the features and the level of control. I have been playing with MFI in my own house, I have MFI running on an IBM t410 ( i5) and it runs fine. There is a feature within the bundle to point the device ( MFI/ Settings / Services and then controllers external name) . I have loaded a device off the same VLAN / subnet no problem. If I reset the MPort and connect to an independent 4 g router , run MFI on an alternate server and adopt the reset MPort, then point at the other server address ( using https://****.***.*** ( via dyn dns account ) and then tell it to use port 6443 and apply the device does not become visible on the other server at the other address. The other address is accessible remotely via the IPhone app and the other address has successfully hosted approx. 120 UAp/ AP AC for 7 months on the same Dyn Dns. I have opened ports 6443 and 6080 pointing to the other server ip address in Nat.

Can anyone comment on successful adoption ( I do not wish to use AWS for this, way too pricey ) to L3.

I will share screen shots if it assists ( might even make a you tube video if I can get my head around L3 mfi, I dont think I am the only end user hitting a wall on this one.

    Hi Guys,

I am having a slight issue with one of my Mport's that I have installed.

I currently have 4 of them installled on site, but one of them is not working.

It has been working for about 2 weeks and today it just started saying "Adopting" in the control software, it will not get past this at all. I have tried reseting the unit ( Can log into it when I plug my cable straight into it) and I have also tried power cycling it, but it will not resolve the issue. I have double checked all the setting compared to the others and they are exactly the same. I have also checked all the caling to the unit and it is fine. It is also not gettting a dhcp address from the dhcp server. But when I plug into the wireless that it is plugged into, I can ping the server and see all the other units on the network.

Could this be an issue after the software auto-updated and how would I go about resolving this issue?

    Thank you.

IF THIS IS TRUE, you can't connect a current sensor to the Serial MPort, you can conect only with a Mport (analog mport) mport no to the mport-s the names are simillar but the operation are very differentsMport serial is for use with sensor with Rs232 or 485 conection. If you have a current sensor you must conect to Mport only, thats is all.

mFi 2.1.4 controller and firmware have been released. Most of the fixes are for embedded firmware functions related to standalone scheduling, so review the changes to decide if you want to upgrade - many controller users may decide to not upgrade.

Debian release (‘sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install mfi’).
    Standalone downloads:

    Windows:www.ubnt.com/downloads/mfi/2.1.4/mFi-installer.exe
    Mac: www.ubnt.com/downloads/mfi/2.1.4/mFi.pkg
    Unix: www.ubnt.com/downloads/mfi/2.1.4/mFi.unix.zip

In-app upgradehas not been turned onyet

Firmware is available for users without a controller (the firmware is identical for all mFi products, so you don’t need to download the specific product type):

    www.ubnt.com/downloads/mfi/2.1.4/firmware/M2M/firmware.bin

Users not using an mFi Controller can upload firmwareusing the device's system tab. Older firmware that does not have an uploadfunction on the system tab can be upgraded usingtheSCP/SSH instructions. On devices with the web upload function, firmwarecan be uploaded when in captive portal mode by browsing right to 192.168.2.20/system.cgi

    Changes from 2.1.2

    Firmware:

Fix for the 192.168.2.0/24 subnet issue. Now if your local network happens to be onthe same network as the captive portal (192.168.2.0) the captive portal interface will automatically be brought down after provisioning, allowing the device to join the network and controller. (note: the "mPower Beta" Android app does not have this fix, so do not use that app for provisioning if your network is 192.168.2.0. You can use the non-provisioning functions of the app though.)
Schedules with the time of 12:00am arenow allowed (12:00am was changing to 12:00pm)
Rows in the scheduling UI can now be deleted reliably
Timezone is now pushed from the controller to the devices. (controller needs to be upgraded too)
Amperage limits on the Machine tab can now be set all the way down to 1 amp
Added handling of mFi controller not being set in the mgmt file (it was continually adding a message to the log)
    Fixed ampHours calulation

    Controller:

Fixed mFi-CS power conversion (voltage setting in custom sensor is now used). Note: this function relies onampHours, which does not persist across a device reboot.
Added timezone push to the devices

    DB:2.59:Mfi 2.1.4 s3

Thanks Alan! Unfortunately, I can't downgrade to 7 since I have already upgraded all instances on this server to v8 update 31, including my Unifi version. I'll have to fire-up another server until mFi catches-up to the Java releases.

Ok.... before anybody says install ubuntu, I have Unifi mFi running on the same box on Centos 6.5 x64.

Unifi runs no problem and is reliable. mFi on the other hand appears to run but there is definately some issue somewhere.I only have one mPort as I'm currently testing this. It appears to connect but then after a few minutes reverts back to adopting. It's running mFi 2.0.15 and I've update the firmware on the mPort manually to the same.I have tried connecting the mPort via ethernet wireless which it does succesfully. I can telnet/ssh into the mPort via ethernet/wireless.If I use the site survey tool in the mPort, I get timeouts when I ping ip's. However, if I telnet/ssh into the mPort, I never get any timeouts from the cli so there is something strange going on there. My network is fine as no other devices complain about any timeouts or packet loss.

Now if i ssh into my Centos server and issue "service mFi restart", the mFi controller adopts the mPort once again for all of about 2 minutes. None of the current sensors I have attached register any data and after 2 minutes or so the mPort reverts back to "adopting" even though I can ping it from anywhere within the network.

So I think the issue may be with the controller and Centos as a restart allows the controller to readopt the mPort albeit no data is transferred. For the Centos guru's out there, SELinux is at setenforce = 0 and iptables are stopped for the duration of this test.

Does anybody have any idea where I need to look?

mPower model (cabled or wireless)? The mini and 3-port models are wireless only and these are the tricky ones to set up.

The table sorting on value is kind of tricky because we mix number with string.

Most if not all sorting will be based on string characters. so 100 will be consider less than 9 (1 9).

Yeah , the washing machine valves do.

When your looking for valves , you want to see 120 Volt and normally closed. Those will be closed when there is no power.

DB:2.55:How Are Mfi System Names Updated sz

I assigned system names to each of my mFi appliances after they were configured and became adopted by the mFi controller. More recently I noticed that these names appear in the presentation delivered by the Ubiquity Discovery Tool.

Well, most of them do. All of the mPorts are there but my solitary mPort (which never seems to do anything right) shows "UBNT" even though it is known by the controller as "West Greenhouse".

But once named, there appears to be no way to change the name in the appliance itself. The controller displays the latest name but the Discovery Tool forever shows the initial name.

Short of disowning, reconfiguring, and re-adopting, is there any way to trickle renames down to the appliance so they will be noticed by the Discovery Tool?

Also, what is the permitted syntax for names? I notice some include spaces while others have had spaces removed (not by me though). Are hyphens, underscores, or other symbol characters supported?

DB:2.55:How Are Mfi System Names Updated sz

Thanks Randy, but it didn't bring a change.

The mPort is still "UBNT", which I did not assign. Name changes and port removal and reassignment made no difference.

One of the mPower is still known as "mPowerwest" despite several name changes, each followed by removing and re-assigning each of its ports.

Incidentally I originally named it "mPower-west", which is how it appeared afterward in the controller's Devices page. But the hyphen was lost when the name was installed on this mPower, as it was also on my other mPowers.

One item reported by Discover tool is "NanoStation M2". I did not name this and wonder how the space within managed to survive.

Are there any guidelines for reliable name assignments?

    OR

If they are working on 1 controller that runs on the NVR and controlls both Video and mfi from one interface.

    Using the espeak KB

You should be able to make another php script with something like " aplay /beep2.wav " as the command.

Test it by calling that script in a browser.

Had problems getting the controller to start. After a few hours trying different ports, uninstall/reinstall java and a bunch of other stuff I found this in the error logs

ERROR: Insufficient free space for journal filesTue Aug 06 21:30:38 [initandlisten] Please make at least 3379MB available in C:/Users/..........

Would be nice if the program would tell you upfront without having to dig though logs

So if your having problems getting the controller to start make sure you have at least 4 gig free.........

    Hi,

i've 1 mPower, 1 mPort and 1 Mfi-CS and i'm using the Mfi software for manage it.

With mPower i can see the Total power. It's possible see the Total power or Total amps for a time period using the Mfi-CS? I suppose that it's only a software feature to add.

All mfi products have a quanta by which it increases the sum values (the mpower is 0.3 w, see below). Since the increase between values is constant, you need to check that the period between steps makes sense. From looking at your graphs, the time period do vary.

DB:2.51:Problem With Mfi Mpower Setup mz

    Hello,

I already setup the mFi controller on my NB.

If the mpower outlets, wifi router and NB with mFi controller is on the same WiFi network, everything is ok.

I would like to ask you if is possible have a computer with mFi controller on different network (static IP, LAN),

than the mFi mpower outlets and wifi router?

Could you please help me with easy to follow guide, how to do it?

    Thank you

    Stan

DB:2.51:Problem With Mfi Mpower Setup mz

The router where the computer running mFI controller is where you need to forward the ports.

ON that router you forward the two ports to the LAN IP address of this computer.

On the network where the mport devices are you only have to allow port 6080 to pass traffic. OPEN it only in this router.

    DB:2.51:Mfi Controller Via Layer3 8m

In reading the guide for the mPort, it states the following "The mFi Controller software should be running on a system connected to the same LAN as the mPort."Does this mean that there is no Layer3 support like the Unifi's have? This will be a major issue since i was planning on monitoring/controlling multiple location from a single mFi server over WANs or VPNs.

    patcampbell wrote:
Where is it explained how it is supported?

It is the same as for UniFi. It works great. Your server just needs to be reachable from the network of the mPort and the mPort configured to talk to that hostname or if you don't have any FQDN, tothe IP of the server.

DB:2.50:Ap Stuck In Adopting And Coverage Issue. z3

I have deployed 6 APs and 1 of the 6 is stuck in "adopting". I've tried forgetting the AP and then re-adopting but that doesn't seem to work. Additionally, the coverage doesn't seem to be quite right. Anyone have any ideas on this?

We have found that after we try to adopt the ap, and it goes into adopting. We have to go back into the discovery tool, and set the inform a second time. Then the ap completes adopting and moves onto provisioning. We noticed the same when adopting ap's via ssh session as well.Yes I had that as wellInitally I'd setup my AP's using DNS but decided to re-adopt them using a set-inform URL incase I ever have to put the ISP supplied router back in (As I can't modify the DNS on that)

DB:2.50:Mfi On Ubuntu 12.04 Vps Constantly Requires Reboot 8j

    Dear all,

I have been playing with an mPort and a Temperature sensor over the last three weeks. Since in the near future I want to sell the mFi series as a service, I decided to set up a vps running ubuntu 12.04 and settle the mPort over there.

Indeed all instructions were clear, set up was complete, I could monitor the network from everywhere even through my iPhone.

My problem is that over the last 2 weeks, mPort seems to be losing connection with the mFi, as soon as I see the corresponding led blinking I am trying to go online but the mfi is not responding, as soon as I reboot the VPS everything is going back to normal. I can connect to the mFi like a charm. I checked the internet connction but this couldn't be a problem of my network, the issue is situated on the installation of the mFi.

Has enyone encountered anything similar? Could this be an mFi instability? Or a VPS issue?

Your comments are very much appreciated.
