I have a wrt54g. My laptop connects to the router, (searches for wireless network, then connects, then shows that it is connected). However, I cannot access the internet. (the page cannot be displayed). This laptop connects to our wireless at work and I have no problems accessing the internet. Any suggestions? Thanks!

DB:3.72:Connected To Wireless, But No Access To The Internet mk

After you get connected to the wireless network, can you browse to your Router/WAP? If so, perhaps you have a NAT problem or perhaps your Router isn't getting out. What does your "Status" screen show if you're able to browse to the router?

If you can't browse to the router, then the problem is likely a wireless configuration problem (DHCP not assigning IP's, security, etc).

Are you getting an IP when you're connected to the wireless network, and if so do you get a gateway DNS server and all that other jazz? In other words, what does "ipconfig" look like on your PC?

I'm having an odd problem. A computer that was previously connected to my wireless network has for some reason stopped being connected. It can reach the access point, but not the internet. It tries to "acquire network adress" for a long time until it stops and tells me i have limited or no access to the internet. My router is a WRT54G.

I am facing a similar issue. My setup is:wrt54gs routerwmp54gs pci adapter cardplus, macbook, two notebooks, and printer (about six devices total)connected to the wireless.my call to linksys support unfortunately dropped, the tech had suggested to check the wireless security type (which matches) as this post has also suggested, and appeared to be taking me down the path to setup the SSID again on the router.when i suggested this would break the connections with all of my equipment, the call was drop.i cannot believe adding the sixth device to an already running network is the right answer to gain connectivity. i'll keep searching the posts.

I had used my IPad with cellular data yesterday as I was away from home and then continued to use cellular when I got home before switching back to wireless. DB:3.62:Wap54g Wireless Connected To Wired Network Cannot Connect To Network Or Internet m8

Hi… Check what the default gateway on your Wireless Computers is. Try pinging to it. If you are able to ping it them you AP is working fine, just check the DNS servers and verify if you are able to ping to them. I think you may need to manually assign DNS servers on your wireless computers. Once you assign the DNS servers you should be online. Also reduce the MTU on the router to 1365 and change the wireless channel on the AP to 11, reduce the Beacon interval to 50 and RTS and Fragmentation Threshold by 40 each.

When connected to my wireless router I receive a message warning about other computers on my network having the same IP address. The other computers are connected to a wired router. Is there someting I can do to alleviate this situation? The problem it causes is that if I am connected to my wireless, no one else on the network can access the internet.

    Thanks

DB:3.57:Ip Address Conflict On Network 79

Do all computers have their TCP/IP properties set to obtain an IP address automatically? Look at the TCP/IP properties on each computer and make sure none are set with a static IP address. Are you running any wireless security like WPA or WEP encryption or MAC address filtering? If not, you should enable these features in order to prevent someone from outside from gaining access to your network.

You have not provided any information about your printer, model and year of computer (your profile says Mac Pro) but this is a Macbook Pro forum, or your network. So other than to say read your printer's manual what else can we say.Typically you would install your printer drivers. From the printer's menu (screen) turn on wifi. Let the printer get an ip address from your router or assign the printer an ip address in your network but outside the dhcp scope. From your computer you will go to system preferences and add a network printer. The printer you just connected to your router using wifi will show up. Use your printer.

    Hi,

Most wireless routers have an internal firewall enabled that keeps wired and wireless traffic separate. However, you can try to disable firewall temporarily on the computer and check what happens.

If this resolves the issue, you may try check with the manufacturer of the Security Software for an update for the software.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-firewall-from-start-to-finish

Note: Antivirus/firewall software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install
other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Let us know if it helps.

You don't even need 3rd party firmware in many instances, but that's going to vary from router to router model.

Personally I don't recommend chaining routers like this, it's semi-advanced networking and can slow things down, but sometimes it's the right solution if other approaches fail or are not feasible.

So awhile ago I was kicked off my wireless network but then it immediately connected to xfinitywifi. I still can't access my old network. It hasn't been a problem until I tried opening my Netflix app on my Samsung blu ray player and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the wireless network. The player says I'm connected but none of the apps (youtube pandora) work. Can anyone help? PS I'm not computer savvy.

I'v had this problem occuring with my linksis router. Turning the router off and on again is about the only solution. I think the error occurs when shutting your laptop off for the night with the wireless still connected.

I cant give much more information on it as i have only just managed to repair my laptop. But a possible solution was turning the wireless off before you turn the computer off. Not 100% sure on that though, but it worked for me

If it's always been like this then, given you have a Dell, you might have the same problem as I had. If it worked before but has now gone wrong then my experiences are probably not of any use to you. There are other WiFi threads that might be of use -
    including Wireless Network Connection Problems?
I had the problem with my Dell Inspiron 1545 its 1397 WLAN mini-card of hardly receiving any WiFi signal strength [another machine next to me could see 6 stray networks from the neighbourhood but mine could see one of none at all].

I solved the problem by uninstalling the Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility then [in Control Panel, System, Device Manager] deleting the card letting Windows re-detect then re-install it [using its default driver]. Problem solved - I now receive wireless
    signals well.
Please note that I also went a stage further but then had to backstep to what I wrote above. I tried updating the driver with Dell's updating facilities but [although the driver version number was the same] the low reception problem returned. I repeated
the above solution and it was fine again. Similarly, I updated the driver using Windows Update but once again [although the driver version number was the same] the low reception problem returned. I repeated the above solution and it was fine again.

Both the Windows Dell drivers have come from Broadcom at some stage as they made this card.

I also tried to contact Dell Support six times during my warranty period but never got a reply.

I am unable to access a wireless connection with my computer's wireless network connection. The icon on the bottom right of the screen shows a red X and states "Wireless Network Connection Not Connected." The wireless button on my keyboard does not light up

I have tried changing the channel on the new wireless ADSL2 router and refreshed the Search for Wireless Connections but still no connections found. I have not used a wireless router before and never used a wireless connection with this computer so I don't know if the wireless card is working or not, though the properties for the wireless card show that it is operating. Is there a way to check if the wireless card on the system is operating or connected and if not, how can it be connected? Thanks

I finally figured out through trial and error why I was unable to connect wirelessly to the modem you sent me. In my control panel, I found that the HP Wireless Assistant properties had "Hide status tray icon" ticked, so I unticked it and the icon came on in the bottom right of my screen. I then left clicked that icon and it showed the wireless and bluetooth was OFF so I switched it to On and it is now working.

Why HP support could not help me in this I don't know, I just got the run around!

Hi,Just got the RVS4000 vpn router and have some problems making it work. The RVS4000 router is behind another wireless dsl router. Also addling static entries to routing table does not work out. Please help. In attached image you can see my network topology.I defined 2 networks 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 for wireless router network and 192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0 for RVS4000 network. If its possible to combine these two networks to one it would be better, if not no problem. Please help making the router work. Thanks in advance,Ruben Hakopian.

    DB:3.34:Problems With Rvs4000. z7

The simple solution: replace the RVS4000 with a simple switch. That's basically what you want to do as computers on either side of the RVS should have access to the other side.

You can use the RVS4000 as switching device if you set up the RVS as follows:

    1. you configure the LAN IP address of the RVS to 192.168.1.253.

    2. you disable the DHCP server on the RVS.

    3. you wire one of the LAN ports of the RVS to your existing LAN. The internet port of the RVS remains unused.

Now you pretty much use the RVS as hardware switch. You won't be able to use any internet related function of the router, in particular you cannot use the VPN server.

    Hey Benjaminzsj5,

First step would be to try defaulting the modem. Changing it back to its original setting may bring the connection back through to the modem. Let me know if you've already tried this and it didn't help.

    DB:3.31:Problems With Rvs4000. zx

Hi, Just got the RVS4000 vpn router and have some problems making it work. The RVS4000 router is behind another wireless dsl router. I want to achieve the following things: 1) make PCs connected to RVS4000 have an access to internet 2) make PCs connected to RVS4000 access PCs from wireless router network 3) make PCs connected to wireless network access PCs connected to RSV4000 PCs. I've tried to change the operating mode from Gateway to Router but it does not help. Also addling static entries to routing table does not work out. Please help. In attached image you can see my network topology. I defined 2 networks 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 for wireless router network and 192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0 for RVS4000 network. If its possible to combine these two networks to one it would be better, if not no problem. Please help making the router work. Thanks in advance, Ruben Hakopian.

    DB:3.31:Problems With Rvs4000. zx

The RVS4000 VPN can be configured for IPSec gateway-gateway tunnels which only requires a shared secret or certificate for authentication. That works with other RVS4000 and should also work with many other plain IPSec routers.

And you connect from remote with the QuickVPN client to the RVS4000.

The RVS4000 is designed for the office end and not for the telework end who wants to connect to the office.

What is the operating system of your computer? Did you change anything in the router like the network name or the security mode/password? You may need to remove the preferred networks in order to reconnect the devices to the network.

Have you tried resetting the nework?  Turn everything off.  Wait 5 minutes, turn on the cable modem first.  Wait another 2 or 3 minutes, then turn on the device connected directly to the cable modem.  (Note that if you are changing the device connected to a cable modem, this reset procedure has to be done everytime you make the change).

If that's not the problem, to help troubleshoot further, on the computer with the problem, go to Start Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.  Do this while it is connected to the modem.

I rightclick on the wireless terminal icon in my tray. I then select view available wireless networks. It gives me a list of available networks. I select one and check the connect even though the network isn't secure box. It then gives me a connect button. In the past I clicked on connect and I was on. I've only done it once before so I'm not real sure about how things work.

After thinking about it, it is very possible these things are unattended and the modems need to be reset. We had snow yesterday and I had to reset my modem at home. It may have knocked the coffee houses offline also. I asked a girl behind the counter at one place to reset the modem and she looked clueless. She said she would contact the Internet provider. I emailed the network administrator at the other place about the problem and I'm waiting for a reply.

    Hello:

I just installed a WPC600N wireless adapter to my laptop but could not connect to the router WRT610N wirelessly. After running the setup disk, connected to the wireless network successfully but on the LInk Information or the Linksys Monitor said "Cannot associate with the Access Point". I tried to use the Linksys Easy Link Advisor (LELA) to repair the connection but still failed to connected. I used the Window XP Wireless Configuration to connect it but still no success. I also used the wireless connection wizard to setup the wireless network with a flash drive and looked like it went through the process but still show "Not Connect" on the Network Connections window. Before I installed this adapter I used WPC54G and it worked fine. Is there something I missed here? Please help. Thanks in advance.

DB:3.30:Wpc600n Cannot Connect To Access Point a8

    Try this...

Remove the Linksys Adapter and un-install the Linksys Software from Programs menu...To re-install the Drivers insert the Linksys Setup CD into your CD-ROM drive, When the Welcome screen appears click Exit, connect your USB adapter now...When the Hardware Update Wizard window appears, click Install the software automatically (Recommended) then click Next...Click Finish when the installation is complete...

NOTE: The Hardware Installation screen may appear indicating that the Adapter has not passed Windows Logo testing. Ignore the window and click Continue Anyway to proceed with the installation since the Adapter has been tested and found to work with Windows XP.When Windows has finished installing the driver, click Finish.

Click on Start and goto Control Panel and double click on Network Connections...Right click on Wireless Network Connection and select View Available Wireless Networks"- If you see your wireless network in the list, highlight it by 'single' clicking on it- Now click on the 'Connect' button below- If your wireless network is secured, it would ask you to provide the network key- Provide the wireless network key and confirm it again in the confirmation box and click "Connect".It should work...

Hey everybody. Recently I've been having problems with ny wireless network. I have a WRT54G2 V1 wireless router. I'lve had the network set up for a while now and have no problems. But recently, I've had some issues with internet connection. My desktop and laptop are connected to the network, but neither can access the internet. The laptop is connected wirelessly, while the desk top is connected directly to the router. the modem is working fine, all the lights are on indicating that there is no problem with the internet connection, and also when I connect the desktop directly to the modem, I have internet access. I've tried I guess the hard reboot or whatever where you disconnect the power to the modem, routher, and shut down the computer and then connect everything again, but that doesnt seem to work. Also, for some reason I can get everthing to work again fine if I connect the desktop directly to the modem to get internet access, and then connnect the router again, with the modem connected to the router and the router to the desk top. The network will be up and running again fine for a while, but then all of sudden it stops working again, with the desktop and laptop connnected to the network with no internet access.

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong?

DB:3.30:No Internet Access When Connected To Network zz

Never mind tha tlast part about getting the network to work again by connecting directly to the modem and then connecting the router again. That does not work anymore. DB:3.29:Wifi Connected But Limited Access pf

    Hi Anup,

    Let us try these methods:
    Method 1.
This tutorial is designed to help you identify and fix problems with wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi) network connections in Windows.
Wired and wireless network problems: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/network-connection-problem-help#network-problems=windows-7v1h=win8tab1v2h=win7tab1v3h=winvistatab1v4h=winxptab1

    Method 2.
One of the components of the Internet connection on your computer is a built-in set of instructions called TCP/IP. TCP/IP can sometimes become damaged or corrupted. If you cannot connect to the Internet and you have
tried all other methods to resolve the problem, TCP/IP might be causing it.

As TCP/IP is a core component of Windows, you cannot remove it. However, you can reset TCP/IP to its original state by using the NetShell utility (netsh).

I would suggest you to use the manual method to reset TCP/IP settings from this article.
How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357/en-us

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these
steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
For Windows 7: Back up the registry: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry

Reply with the status of the issue and we will be glad to offer our assistance.

    Hi
A message in the Wireless little Window that says Connected does not means that you really have a valid functional connection.
If everything above is OK you have to be able to connect to the Wireless Router. (WIFI Hot Spot).
Connecting to the Router means that you can enter the Router's core IP into an address bar of a browse, be able to connect, see, and configure the Router's menus (the Wireless Router's extended manual should explain how-to).
If it does not connecting to your own Wireless Router, log from any computer that can connect to Wireless Router with a Wire, disable the Wireless Security, make sure that the Wireless broadcast SSID is On, and try to connect with No Wireless security.
Enable the Wireless security after you mange to establish a functional connection.
    ----------------------------
Many Wireless cards' drivers also install the vendor's Wireless utility.
Make sure that if there is a vendor's Wireless Utility thes Not Running together with the Windows native Wireless utility (WLAN Service) .
    ----------------
Software Firewall might block the Local traffic to the Network that you are trying to use because it is Not adjusted to the Network Trust Zone.
Make sure that No Firewall is preventing/blocking the Wireless components to get to the Network.
Some 3rd party Software Firewalls keep blocking aspects of Local Traffic even it they are turned Off (disabled). If possible configure the Firewall correctly, otherwise totally uninstall it, and get rid of its residual processes
to allow clean flow of local network traffic.
If the 3rd party software is uninstalled or disables, make sure that Windows native Firewall is On .
3rd party Network mangers like Bonjour, and NetMagic can block local traffic too.
    ---------------------------
Working TCP/IP stack (Network IP number) should look this way.
Right click on the Wire card Network Connection, choose Status, Details, and see if it got an IP and the rest of the settings.

yy should be from 0 to 255
zz should be from 0 to 255 (all zz the same number.
The lease date should be valid to the current time.

In order to verify this configuration, configure the SSID vpnclient in the wireless client with the same security parameters configured in the WLC and associate the client to this WLAN. There are several documents that explain how to configure a wireless client with a new profile.Once the wireless client is associated, go to the VPN Client and click on the connection that you have configured. Then click Connect from the VPN Client main window.

You can see the Phase 1 and Phase 2 security parameters negotiated between the client and the server.

    Hello Peterferns,

I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. I am linking an HP Support document below that will show you how to find your product number. As well, if you could indicate which operating system you are using. And whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit as with this and the product number we can provide you with accurate information.

How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

Please re-post with the requested information and I would be happy to provide you with assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

I added a new computer to my wireless network. The computer shows connected but with limited or no connectivity. Is there something I can do?

    DB:3.28:Network Key ja

I don't know exactly how to find your wireless card using Vista. However, I will explain how to do it in Windows XP. Hopefully, they are alike enough that you can findthe name of your wireless card.(In Windows XP) Go to "Device Manager", click on the "+" sign in front of "Network Adapters". This item will expand to show all your network adapters. Look for the adapter with the word "wireless" in its name. Copy down the fullname, exactly asit is listed, and report back with this. Also, right click on the name of your wireless card, and click on "properties". This will take you to the properties of your wireless card. Click on the "Driver" tab.Copy down theProvider, date, and version of the driver you are using. Report back with this.Next, go to your router. You said it was "software version 5.0". I assume you found a sticker on the router thatsays "WRT54GS version 5.0". If so, this "version 5.0" is actually the "hardware version" of this router. To find thefirmware version of your router, use a computer that is wired to your router. Point your browser to 192.168.1.1 This will take you to yourrouter's login page. Enter your user name (if any) and your password. This will take you to your router's setup pages. In the upper right corner it says "Firmware version ....". Write down the exactfirmware version number and report back with this. You mentioned that you are running Vista. Are you running thebeta version, or have you gotten the finalversion (released about 4-5 days ago)?

DB:3.28:The Network Adapter Wireless Network Connection 3 Is Not Correctly Configured To Use The Ip Protocol 8d

I cannotconnect to any internet. I try to connect to wireless hotspots, but it tells me i'm connected with limited access

DB:3.28:The Network Adapter Wireless Network Connection 3 Is Not Correctly Configured To Use The Ip Protocol 8d

    Hi idkmyname,

    1. What is the exact error message displayed when you try to go online?
    2. Do you have updated network adapter drivers installed?
    3. What is the make and model of the computer?

    Method 1:
You may refer to the below links and check if the steps provided assist you resolve the issue -
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-Internet-connection-problems
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-network-connection-problems

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-problems-finding-wireless-networks
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/wireless-network-connection-problems-in-windows

    Method 2:
You may follow the steps below to check for the Network Adapter in the device manager. I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the network adapter drivers and check:
    a. Click
Start, and then click Control Panel.
    b. Click
System and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.

Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then click
    Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click
    Allow.
Check if you have any exclamation mark alongside the devices listed. If you do have then there is issue with the adapter installed.
    c. In Network Adapter, expand Network Adapter, right-click the devices listed, and then click
    Uninstall.
When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK.
    d. Restart the computer.
After the computer restarts, the drivers will be automatically installed. Check after this procedure if you are able to get the network access.

If you get any drivers related errors you may check if you have the latest updated drivers installed for the network adapter. Refer to the below link for assistance -
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

DB:3.27:Hp Laptop Cannot Connect To Internet Wireless. Ipv6-No Internet Access. 8m

My laptop has connected with the wireless router before and had internet. But now it says its connected but says error when pulling up a webpage. When I go to Wireless Network Connection the IPv4 has internet but the IPv6 does not.

DB:3.27:Hp Laptop Cannot Connect To Internet Wireless. Ipv6-No Internet Access. 8m

    Hi
The main stream Internet is TCP/IP v4 only.
Check your Wireless card's Properties and make sure that the TCP/IPv4 is enabled.
