    DB:4.87:External Log4j Viewer Config? Eg. Chainsaw kx

    Folks,

    Anyone configure an external Log4j viewer such as Chainsaw with Oracle BPEL Process Manager? I've reviewed C:\OraBPELPM\system\config\log4j-config.xml and it looks like it would be done there but I'm not sure how to align the xml tags there with the instructions with Chainsaw, those being:

    "You will need to configure Log4J to send logging events to Chainsaw and a file. Here is a sample log4j.properties file for sending logging events to a file in XML format and Chainsaw.

    log4j.rootCategory=DEBUG, Default, Chainsaw

    log4j.appender.Default=org.apache.log4j.FileAppender
    log4j.appender.Default.file=../log/server.log
    log4j.appender.Default.layout=org.apache.log4j.xml.XMLLayout
    log4j.appender.Default.append=false

    log4j.appender.Chainsaw=org.apache.log4j.net.SocketAppender
    log4j.appender.Chainsaw.remoteHost=localhost
    log4j.appender.Chainsaw.port=4445
    log4j.appender.Chainsaw.locationInfo=true

    "

    Any thoughts on going about this?

    in case this is still a problem, check this thread Re: File Adapter Question

    i added the following:

    appender name="A3" class="org.apache.log4j.net.SocketAppender"
    param name="RemoteHost" value="10.132.2.15"/
    param name="Port" value="4447"/
    param name="LocationInfo" value="true"/

    layout class="org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout"
    param name="ConversionPattern" value="lt;%dgt; lt;%pgt; lt;%cgt; %m%n"/
    /layout
    /appender

    logger name="application.management" additivity="false"
    level value="DEBUG"/
    appender-ref ref="A1"/
    appender-ref ref="A2"/
    appender-ref ref="A3"/

    I'm using JBoss-3.2.1 for the micro-kernel and JMX support. I use log4j that comes installed with jboss, this is working great!!!But there are so many log messages in the server.log file, that it is difficult to read. I want to parse this file to view logitems from my component. I've searched and it seems there is something called "chainsaw" that is integrated into log4j that has a nice GUI to sort and parse the log4j output.Chainsaw is not included in the jboss-3.2.1/lib/log4j-boot.jar file, and I cannot find it anyplace included with jboss.How can I nicely parse/view my jboss log4j server.log file????(should I replace the log4j-boot.jar with the full log4j.jar downloaded from the jakarta website? it does include chainsaw packages...)Thanks, Gretel

    DB:3.29:Log4j Viewer, Or Chainsaw 8j

    The log4j-boot.jar is a special log4j for the bootstrap process. This cannot be changed as you will break the bootstrap process.In the server/instance/lib directory is a log4j.jar - it should be 1.2.8 and should contain the chainsaw classes. You should be able to access the chainsaw classes from this library. If it is not the log4j-1.2.8.jar distribution, you should be able to change it for the latest version. However, the JBoss 3.2.x source distributions contain this version so I am pretty certain it is the 1.2.8 version in the binaries.

    Please let me know

    Hi,this topic has been already discussed, I know, I haven't found any satisfying answer though.We have applications using log4j on its own. Partly in-house, partly third-party. While it is possible to move our own log4j configuration from our property files into /conf/log4j.xml, it will be a lot of trouble to make our suppliers change their WAR files.What we'd like is to be able to copy the WAR file into the deploy directory and just go.Is it possible to have logging configuration per application?If not, is it planned for?Thanks,Tomasz

    DB:2.92:Separate Log4j Config Files 8m

    Mike,I have looked at log4j mailing list, but haven't found anything yet. I have managed to control my own settings by adding my configuration to JBoss' log4j.xml file.The problem is that we also have third party software using log4j. They come as WAR files, so that we'd have to remove their log4j.properties from the WARs and add manually to that log4j.xml. It's troublesome, error-prone, contradicting the idea of self-contained WAR archives - put it into the ./webapps and it works.I think the solution would be for JBoss to have its own classloader with its own private instance of log4j classes, and for webapps to have theirs instance.This is why I asked, it might have been on the task list of JBoss development.Regards,Tomasz

My categories get listed but i am not able to change their priority level. Does anyone know how to change the individual category priority levels? can you post a samle config file!i'm using jboss 3.2.3.

But if you find a solution, please post it to me that i'm interesting about log4j tuning!ThanxGio

    Has anyone tackled the confuguration requirements for this one using the DOMConfigurator/xml

    cannot find xml config files. TIA.

    John Hogan

    DB:2.58:Log4j 3a

    Hi,
    I came across the same problem. I debugged it and I think I know whats causing this.

    There are couple of issues here thats causing the problem both on the Weblogic Server
    side and Log4j side.

    Weblogic server side..
    - For some reason, I havent yet figured out why, Weblogic adds protocol handler to
    handle zip files exclusively.
    for eg: zip://.... /*.zip .
    - The problem occurrs when it tries to open a jar file using a ZipProtocol handler.

    Thats why you see the following in your stack trace.

    at weblogic.utils.zip.ZipURLConnection.getInputStream(Handler.java:40)
    at java.net.URL.openStream(URL.java:793)

    I dont know why it confuses jar with zip. Java URL Protocol Handler does not allow
    this unless you implement your own HandlerFactory class.
    for more info on protocol handler check out http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/protocolhandlers/

    Now the question come, why does it open a jar file..
    - At first we assume that the problem is with log.jar that contains the LogProperties.xml
    which you pass to DOMConfigurator. The problem is now with log.jar. The problem
    is with
    the log4j.dtd. For some reason which I dont know why, the authors of log4j thought
    it would be nice to hardcode the location of log4j.dtd to org/apache/log4j/xml/log4j.dtd.

    Contents of org.apache.log4j.xml.DOMConfigurator.java
    Class clazz = this.getClass();
    URL dtdURL = clazz.getResource("/org/apache/log4j/xml/log4j.dtd");
    if(dtdURL == null) {
    LogLog.error("Could not find [log4j.dtd]. Used ["+clazz.getClassLoader()+
    "] class loader in the search.");
    }
    else {
    LogLog.debug("URL to log4j.dtd is [" + dtdURL.toString()+"].");
    inputSource.setSystemId(dtdURL.toString());
    }

    log4j1.XX.jar does contain the log4j.dtd in the above mentioned place, but weblogic
    screws up while fetching the log4j.dtd from log4j1.XX.jar. Thats where it throw ZipException.

    The workaround for it is to unpack log4j1.XX.jar and have org/apache/log4j/xml/log4j.dtd
    in your classpath.

    That should solve the problem.
    If any of you know whey Weblogic uses ZipURLConnection to open a jar file.. please
    shed some light..

    -Suresh

    This might help. (the error is thrown at line 596 in the
    org.apache.log4j.xml.DOMConfigurator.java, and it looks like the author
    realizes that the exception is not a good one). Does anyone know why
    parsing is throwing a "java.util.zip.ZipException: The system cannotfind

    2. placed ext.jar in lib directory inside meta-inf folder.
    3. created ear file with all the EJB classes incuding lib folder and meta inf folder.
    4. added following line to manifest.mf
    Class-Path: lib/ext.jar
    5. copied ear file to default/deploy in JBoss.
    6. started JBoss by giving run incommand line.

    Hi,

    we are devolping a java mapping in PI 7.1, This mapping uses some external jars wich includes log4j and commons-loggin libraries. When we execute the interface (or the test), we have the following error:

    Root Cause:

    org.apache.commons.discovery.DiscoveryException: No implementation defined for org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory

    I think the cause it's because the commong-logging.propeties and log4j properties are not included, but if I include them it stil persists the error.

I have been successful using embedded Java and referencing domain specific packages (default.collaxa.cube) or even creating domain related application specific packages by populating the file (orabpel/domains/domain/config/log4j-config.xml) which are administrable via the bpel console.

    What I want to be able to do however is create the application specific packages without tying them to a domain so that my log4j embedded statements don't have to reference a domain (that would be set up at deploy time). I've tried updating the file (orabpel/system/config/log4j-config.xml) but that doesn't seem to work. How can I configure the log4j packages without domain references that are completely configurable via the bpel console?

    Juraj,
    There is no mechanism by which you can start a class while starting the class like servlet (no init method). What are you looking for? You can use the log mechanism of S1Appserver itself which uses mostly JDK1.4 logging. Are you using session bean or entity bean?

    DB:2.39:Jar Into Jar - Noclassdeffounderror: Org/Apache/Log4j/Logger a1

    Well, its not a good idea to leave a file that you need to update inside your .jar application. If you needed just to read information from your .xml, you could have done

    InputStream is = getClass( ).getResourceAsStream("relativePath");In theory it is OS independent. But it depends on the solutions you are using. For example, the way you find a path to a file might work in Windows and not in linux.

    Also, you dont need to set your .xml file in the class-path of your manifest. Just use the correct path to access it from your application.

    Hi.Your problem can be the classpath or that you are using two different versions of log4j.jar file.You have to search all the log4j.jar and replace the older version for the newer. Search this file in the documentum directory and your web aplication directory.I recommend you that actualice this jar file... because you can have other problems in the future.By.

    Hi,
    I'm trying to figure out how I can use chainsaw (of log4j) to display a log4j generated XML file on a remote server.

    To develop I use Win2K, production will be on Linux.

    I always get the following error:

    log4j:ERROR Could not connect to remote log4j server at [localhost]. We will try again later.
    java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect

    at java.net.Socket.init(Socket.java:153)
    at org.apache.log4j.net.SocketAppender.connect(SocketAppender.java:195)
    ...

    The properties file looks like that:
    log4j.rootCategory=DEBUG, Default, Chainsaw

    log4j.appender.Default=org.apache.log4j.FileAppender
    log4j.appender.Default.file=server.log
    log4j.appender.Default.layout=org.apache.log4j.xml.XMLLayout

    log4j.appender.Chainsaw.remoteHost=localhost
    log4j.appender.Chainsaw.port=4445
    log4j.appender.Chainsaw.locationInfo=true

    What is wrong here?

    Regards,

    I got a similar error message with yours, but my configuration is somewhat different.

    I am using 1.3 alpha version of log4j chainsaw (got it from cvs, the main class for chainsaw resides in a completely different location than yours) and the error was produced by the application that used log4j for logging the messages, not the chainsaw gui.

    The error was resolved by upgrading the commons-logging library I was using (was using 1.0.3, needed 1.0.4 to be compatible with log4j 1.3). I suggest you look for dependencies like these and of course get the latest version of log4j.

    Cheers,

    hi,definitely a good suggestion - also you dont need to have an "endlessly" revolving animation - its a lot easier to animate from one spike to (almost) the next loop this - will look like a continuous motion.robert

    Hi all,I have two EAR files, each declaring their own log4j xml config. They have a different classloader namespace (using jboss-app.xml). They are both supposed to log to a different file, but everything is logged into the first webapp's file. I am assuming this is because log4j is actually loaded by the server (because it's in its classpath).The question is: Is there a way to separate these log files so that each webapp can log into its own file?Any help appreciated!Michael

    I don't use injected logger because such logger can't be use everywhere, for example in constructor, so it's useless. I use slf4j as my abstraction layer, use it's methods to log, and delegate logging to jboss logging. Additionally I exclude completely log4j from project.

    I have recently been educated by one of my peers on how to use Apache's ChainSaw as a desktop application to review log4j messages. I have found this VERY useful for getting messages from OIM in a queryable form at my workstation. It is particularly nice to get a consolidated log from clustered servers.

    This also allows us to turn down the logging level for the server based log but still get all the debug info at my workstation.

    The configuration was relatively simple. I can share the details if anyone is interested. We even got it working to get the last 10000 messages from the App server on launch.

    Is anyone else using ChainSaw?

    I'm reall sorry to hear that, John! I've never heard of these issues and I know people who got both the PS3 and 360 versions of the game. ON MS WIndows, starting the app server involves running the asadmin script, which in turn runs the command "%AS_JAVA%\bin\java" ... com.sun.enterprise.cli.framework.CLIMain start-domain domain1. This does not seem to be the actual server, since I have inserted startup code in the domain1 configuration which prints to the console, and I don't see that output.

    Is there a way to bypassCLIMain and start the server from the CMD prompt? Maybe then I can see the console log output.

    To head off any well-intentioned log4j suggestions... Yes, I'm using log4j to write this console output. I have configured a SocketAppender and can watch the output using Chainsaw. But I'm trying to keep the end user requirements quite simple for a tutorial I'm preparing, and Chainsaw isn't simple.

    Thanks!

    DB:2.32:Can I Start App Server Without Using Climain? pp

    That's closer. As far as I can tell, nothing reads launcher.xml. I tried directing the log output to a different file, and the same old file name was logged into. That would explain why my changing the print property did nothing.

    We've added an -Xrun option, and it displays useful debugging information on System.out. That's how we've inserted code that runs before the application server starts.

    I'm going to continue looking into this launcher, now that youv'e told me what it is called.

    DB:2.31:Seam Logging With Log4j - Config 38

    Hi all,Is there a way to include a log4j.conf file in my .ear to specify configuration for my apps logging?I know I can do this in the app server log4j config file, but it's quite handy to keep log configuration for each application in it's own place.If so, where do I put the log4j.conf file, and is it automatically picked up, or does it need to be referenced?cheersphil

    DB:2.30:Using Jacorb From A Session Bean md

    Hello!

    WLS 8.1SP2
    Win XP professional
    jacorb 2.1 from jacorb.org

    I have a session bean that uses a library. This library uses jacorb as a client to connect to an external service.

    I am having trouble making this setup work. I have tried to package Jacorb and required libraries inside the ear, but I get class-loading problems with log4j.
    Also changed the server config to use jacorb as the ORB implementation, but then I get a class not found with a log kit class when jacorb is loading.

    Has anyone tried something like this before ?

    Regards

    I am running 3.2RC3 with log4j1.2.8. with Struts+Tiles and I get the following errorERROR: invalid console appender config detected, console stream is loopingwhen I hit a page.I tried replacing log4j jar files with Jboss's version, removing my CONSOLE appender definitions - no difference.Any comments would be appreciated.ThanksLS

    DB:2.30:Log4j "Console Stream Is Looping" Error ca

    Hello!I had similar problem. What I did wrong, was that in configuration file for my classes I've added my JMSAppender to the root. According to the specification of log4j, adding anything to any logger (including root) first erases everything, and than adds included appenders. So this way I erased all apenders for root (including console appender) and added my JMSAppender. Therefore JBoss could not log anything to console anymore and the last message I saw was something like you got.Solution for my application was creating separate logger in JBOSS_HOME/server/YourServer/config/log4j.xml with additivity paramter set to false:category name="com.myCompany" additivity="false(or for JBoss using log4j-1.2.8)And in the configuration file for my application instead of writing level value="INFO/ appender-ref ref="myJMSAppender"/I wrote level value="INFO/ appender-ref ref="myJMSAppender"/Hope this helped anyhowGreetingsPawel

    DB:2.30:Using Jacorb From A Session Bean ds

    Hello!

    Regards

    DB:2.30:Using Jacorb From A Session Bean ds

    Note that if you are using 8.1 there should be very few scenarios in which you actually need to use a 3rd-party client ORB. In most instances the BEA ORB should be good enough. (The known exceptions are Portable Interceptors). Is there something particular about jacorb that you need?

    DB:2.29:Log4j Cofig In Jboss-3.0alpha s8

    How does one configure the log4j service to read a different log4j config file other than log4j.properties. Namely, I want to use an XML config file (i.e. log4j.xml). In JBoss-2.4.x this was accomplished by altering the jboss.conf file and adding an argument, but I can not find where this is configurable in JBoss-3.0.Thanks,Justin

    DB:2.29:Log4j Cofig In Jboss-3.0alpha s8

    I would report this as either a bug or feature requeston sourceforge.The log4jservice is currently "hard-coded" in 3.0there should be some method of configuring it atstart-up.Regards,Adrian

    DB:2.28:Can Multiple Config Files Be Read When Initializing Log4j? m9

    Can multiple config files be read when initializing log4j? For example, in my case, I am using WebLogic 8.1 and they have a default log4j config xml file that is read to initialize log4j. If I want to add specific configuration for my application, would I have to add to the existing WL log4j config, or could I have my own config file that is specific to my application? When I have my own config file, my goal is really to keep the logging that WL provides, but to ALSO include the logging config for my app. I know that I can rename the file and just point to the new file, I just want to be able to keep all of my app-specific configuration in one place, and the WL configuration in another, for ease of maintenence.

    In summary, I guess I have the following questions:

    Can multiple config files be read for log4j? If so, what happens?

    - Does the config file that is loaded 2nd overwrite the 1st, or append to the first (provided there are no conflicts)

    - Can the config files be a mix of xml and .properties files?

    - Can they be loaded at different times (e.g. WL loads its default at server startup, but have my app-specific file loaded via an initialization servlet that reads a properties file via PropertyConfigurator.configure() ) ?

    Thanks in advance for any input you may be able to provide.

    DB:2.28:Can Multiple Config Files Be Read When Initializing Log4j? m9

    Can multiple config files be read for log4j? If so,
    what happens?Yes. "What happens" is an excessively simplistic question. Start with this article about log4j in a J2EE environment:

    http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2003/04/02/log4j_ejb.html

    and follow the links that I'm sure it must have. Googling for "log4j classloader" leads to more related information.

    - Does the config file that is loaded 2nd
    2nd overwrite the 1st, or append to the first
    (provided there are no conflicts)Neither. Each classloader has its own, independent, config file.

    - Can the config files be a mix of xml and
    nd .properties files?Each classloader has its own config file, which can be XML or properties.

    - Can they be loaded at different times (e.g. WL
    WL loads its default at server startup, but have my
    app-specific file loaded via an initialization
    servlet that reads a properties file via
    PropertyConfigurator.configure() ) ?Each classloader loads the config file the first time log4j asks it to do so.

    The startup servlet calls a java program and I have put the logger Instantiating code in this java program .

    I tried to rename this file to log4j.xml but I still get the same error

    if i remove it from the classpath this code compiles fine but I get an error during starup of tomcat like

    log4j:ERROR Could not open [sudarson.xml].
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: sudarson.xml (The system cannot find the file spe

    /root

    /log4j:configuration

    I have tried many ways to get rid of this problem like putting this xml file in almost all possible areas in tomcat and adding relative jars classpath.

    If I use properties file will I be able to get rid of this problem???

    If i put the logger instantiating code in the servlet will this problem get solved???

    why is that the xml file entry in classpath not allowing the java program to compile??

    In our legacy J2SE environment, our application's JVM served up a very basic webpage that allowed us to dynamically alter the log4j Logger levels at runtime, without editing any log4j configuration files. The webpage was simply a form that listed all of the Loggers in the JVM in a hierarchical tree view (very much like how Chainsaw displays them), with comboboxes containing the available Levels for each Logger. The user could then choose new Levels for any or all loggers and submit the form. The server parsed the form arguments and made Logger.setLoggerLevel() calls appropriately.This type functionality is extremely useful to my team, as we often have less technically skilled team members sitting at the system, trying to debug problems while consulting with the engineering team over the phone. It's much easier to ask someone to work with the tree view than to work with either the JBoss web console, the Sun JConsole, or via editing the log4j.xml file.Is there some industry standard or open source tool that does what we're looking for, or is editing the log4j.xml file (or using the web console) really the standard, preferred approach to dynamically altering Logger levels? If not, what do you think the best approach for adding this functionality to the JBoss environment would be?Thanks

    Hi all,

    has anyone ever seen a viewer/interface for the Logging FW introduced in JDK 1.4? I mean something similar to LogFactor5 or Chainsaw for Log4J. I have been looking for it for a while but still without any results.

    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Dora

    DB:2.28:Viewer Wanted For Logging Fw In Jdk 1.4 s9

    The new version of log4j's Chainsaw can view jdk1.4 logging events.

    Available via Web Start:
    http://logging.apache.org/log4j/docs/chainsaw.html

    Chainsaw v2 can view jdk 1.4 util.logging events:

    1- written to disk using the xml formatter, or
    2- sent over the wire via sockethandler (again in xml format)

    Use the file menu, load java util file if you're loading a log file saved in jdk1.4 util.logging's xml format.

    If you're using a sockethandler:

    Chainsaw's Welcome panel provides both a tutorial and an 'example receiver configuration'. The XMLSocketReceiver is the example you would use to receive jdk1.4 util.logging events over a socket.

    You can define this receiver in the app - Select the view menu, show receivers, pick the 'new' icon, and select xmlsocketreceiver, using the 'org.apache.log4j.xml.UtilLoggingXMLDecoder' decoder and appropriate port.

    I have created a custom adapter that is using log4j to log. That adapter jar is in javatasks and I have a corresponding entry to XL_HOME/config/log.properties as well for the category. I see that my first log entry occurs and then none after it, but I do see that the OIM ones are there working. I think that likely its some classloader issue where that when the OIM entries occur that they use\steal a log4j instance away from my custom adapter. Seems like this could be common issue and any insight would be appreciated. I hope I dont have to stick to the OIM [XELLERATE.ADAPTERS] provided entries because that really limits debugging any "external" jars. Thanks.

    Hi,
    You could define a new appender in the log.properties file to track if your log is been properly sent. I use to to define a custom appender that sends my adapters logs in a different file for development, and it's very comfortable to read.

    Hi,

    I am having JavaFX application which makes call to External Web Service and also use log4j for logging.
    Earlier I was having issue in running the application by double clicking the JNLP file for which I got resolution from the forum.
    I was not signing the JARS causing all weird issues. Now application is running by double clicking the JNLP file.

    Issue which I am facing right now is that when I use the same application deploy package and deploy it under TOMCAT
    then my application misses the dependent JARS. I tried to use javaws -viewer to view the issue but couldn't see any error in it.
    I also tried to put the application dependent JARS under TOMCAT/COMMONS but nothing working.

    Please help me out for deployment of my JAVAFX application under TOMCAT.

    Thanks in advance,

    Thanks for your reply's.

    Sorry for the posting, I found issue in my code where I was loading the log4j.xml file which I rectified and now my application is able to read the log4j.xml from resource directory inside the JAR.
    So now I can do the logging from application running under TOMCAT.

    But I have one question i.e. suppose in my application, I need to put resources outside my JARS in order to provide provision for user to change things at run-time then what is the best way to go for.
    Should I just put my resources folder in class path. Will application pick it up at runtime just like dependent libraries or not.

    Thanks Regards,

From viewing the new loader in the JMX viewer you can see the container jar files are still loaded.I tried repackaging the apps to get round the loader problem but this did not seam to work.If anyone has any worked examples of how to achieve this that would be great.

    If you absolutely need to route this through Java, you will need to look at JNI. Using JNI you can call C from Java and vice-versa.

    Hi,

    I'm wondering if anyone has a good strategy for determining what code is being executed on the EDT. I understand the the way the EDT and threading works and don't usually have any problems, but there's still the odd time I'll overlook something and accidently run code that should be on the EDT in a background thread.

    I used to use Apache Log4J and watch logging statements using Chainsaw. Since the log entries showed up in Chainsaw with the thread they were running on it was real easy to pick out potential problems.

    Now I've switched to the built in Java logging system and am finding it more difficult to keep track of what code is executing on each thread. Also, watching the logs and picking things out by hand isn't going to be a good solution as my application grows.

    So, how do you make sure you're not running GUI code off the EDT by accident?

    RyanYou can use java.awt.EventQueue.isDispatchThread() (or SwingUtiltites.isEventDispatchThread()) to see if you are on the EDT or not. I'd probably use an assert, something like so:
    assert EventQueue.isDispatchThread() : "This should run on the EDT";

    DB:2.26:Using Log4j2 In Weblogic For Logging In Osb 1p

    Hi All,I was trying to use log4j2 logging in OSB. I did below mentioned steps:Copied external jars "log4j-api-2.0-beta7" and "log4j-core-2.0-beta7" into %Domain_Home%\lib directory.Placed wllog4j.jar into same location.Created log4j2.xml and placed it into %Domain_Home% directory.Modified setDomainEnv.cmd in %Domain_Home%\bin directory to include log4j2.xml location(set LOG4J_CONFIG_FILE=%DOMAIN_HOME%\log4j2.xml) and enable log4j logging by setting java option(-Dwlw.log.Log4jLoggingEnabled=true)Content of log4j2.xml looks like this:?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?configuration status="debug" name="MyApp" packages="" appenders RollingFile name="RollingFile" fileName="C:/Oracle/MiddlewareNew/user_projects/domains/base_domain/servers/AdminServer/logs/services.log" filePattern="logs/$${date:yyyy-MM}/app-%d{yyyy-MM-dd-HH}-%i.log.gz" PatternLayout pattern%d %p %m%n/pattern /PatternLayout Policies TimeBasedTriggeringPolicy/ SizeBasedTriggeringPolicy size="10 MB"/ /Policies DefaultRolloverStrategy max="10"/ /RollingFile Async name="Async" appender-ref ref="RollingFile"/ /Async /appenders loggers root level="debug" appender-ref ref="Async"/ /root /loggers/configurationAfter setting all the above things, when i am starting weblogic server then i am getting parsing exception in console with error like below:log4j:ERROR Parsing error on line 3 and column 44log4j:ERROR Document root element "configuration", must match DOCTYPE root "null".log4j:ERROR Parsing error on line 3 and column 44log4j:ERROR Document is invalid: no grammar found.log4j:WARN The configuration element has been deprecated.log4j:WARN Use the log4j:configuration element instead.I am not able to figure out what is going wrong here. In my information log4j2 has done away with namespaces, schema/dtd references and looks like still weblogic is using log4j 1.2 reference. I would really appreciate of one can tell me what is going wrong here.There was reference to log4j-1.2.8 in my setDomainEnv.cmd asset POST_CLASSPATH=%POST_CLASSPATH%;%ALSB_HOME%\lib\version.jar;%ALSB_HOME%\lib\alsb.jar;%ALSB_HOME%\3rdparty\classes;%ALSB_HOME%\lib\external\log4j_1.2.8.jar;%DOMAIN_HOME%\config\osbcould this be causing issue? If yes then how can we remove old references of log4j 1.2(if i am removing this entry from here then log4j is giving error for classes not found).Any input will be helpful.

    DB:2.26:Using Log4j2 In Weblogic For Logging In Osb 1p

    The log4j:ERROR messages are not coming from Log4j 2 and are most likely from Log4j 1.x. Somehow Log4j 1.x must be getting the log4j2 configuration.

    DB:2.26:Log4j And Tomcat 7f

    Hi all,
    I developed two simple java programs and added a log feature into it (using log4j and external xml config file) and it worked fine.Now I face some problems while I try to Implement the same feauture in an Application that runs in Tomact.

    The startup servlet calls a java program and I have put the logger Instantiating code in this java program .
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``
    Java code
    public class PublisherPoll implements Runnable {
    private static int recCounnt;
    public static int maxVal;
    public static Connection con;
    public static Thread theThread;
    public static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(PublisherPoll.class);
    static{
    DOMConfigurator.configure("sudarson.xml");
    /****this xml file when given in class path like d:\sudarson gives a compilation error like
    error: error reading d:\sudarson.xml; error in opening zip file
    I tried to rename this file to log4j.xml but I still get the same error
    if i remove it from the classpath this code compiles fine but I get an error during starup of tomcat like
    log4j:ERROR Could not open [sudarson.xml].
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: sudarson.xml (The system cannot find the file spe
    cified)
    }
    //lot of other code~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
    sudarson.xml
    ?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?
    !DOCTYPE log4j:configuration SYSTEM "log4j.dtd"
    log4j:configuration xmlns:log4j="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/"
    appender name="appender" class="org.apache.log4j.FileAppender"
    param name="File" value="output1.txt"/
    param name="Append" value="true"/
    layout class="org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout"
    param name="ConversionPattern" value="%d [%t] %p - %m%n"/
    /layout
    /appender
    root
    priority value ="debug"/
    appender-ref ref="appender"/
    /root
    /log4j:configuration
    I have tried many ways to get rid of this problem like putting this xml file in almost all possible areas in tomcat and adding relative jars classpath.
    If I use properties file will I be able to get rid of this problem???
    If i put the logger instantiating code in the servlet will this problem get solved???
    why is that the xml file entry in classpath not allowing the java program to compile??
    Please Thelp ME
    Thanks,
    Sudarson
    DB:2.26:Log4j And Tomcat 7f
    still I get this same error during tomcat startup
    log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (org.apache.catalina.startup.E
    mbedded).
    log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
    I am aware that this is not a log4j forum. But developers here might have had experience working with log4j, hence thought it fit to post this message here.
    I have an application that uses log4j to log events. Initially, I was initializing the properties file within the class using PropertyConfigurator.configure() method. Then I thought I will make the properties file external and specified the configuration file at command line using the -D option. Now, I am getting the error:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: org.apache.log4j.Category: field level not foundHas anybody else come across such errors? How to set it right?
    Thanks,
    Is there any real difference between a video monitor and a regular LCD television when used as an external viewer?
    Thank you.
    DB:2.26:External Viewer c3
    Money is usually a good indicator. Really the only way to test it is to put color bars on it and measure it on hardware scope, see if the luminosity hits the marks on the graticule on ever bar, and the chroma hits the targets on on a vectorscope. Or google the various models and see if there are reliable reviews that may have tested them.
    Hi All,I had configured log4j.props file and C:\Documentum\config is in the method server classpath.the DfLogger class prints into the log file perfectly with 5.3 SP5 where Tomcat was the method server.But migrating it to D6 even though the java jobs work the Logs are not getting updated.Is there anything else we need to do for BEA Method server for the Log4j Config to work?RegardsSrinivas
    If the chainsaw isn't positioned correctly, add a child object to your playerObject. This child object is commonly called an attachment point. Then child the chainsaw to the attachment point. You can tweak the local transform of the attachment point so the chainsaw is in the right position.
    Hi all.
    If you run an application which uses Log4J logging it's enough to place the log4j.xml file in the Classpath.
    But how do you specify which configuration file to use during startup of a Java programm if they need different configurations but have the same classpath?
    Thanks in advance
    DB:2.26:Log4jappenderhandler Usage 8j
    Hi,
    Is there a way to plug log4j's SocketHubAppender for all AS7 logging ? I'd like to connect log output of various AS7 instances to Chainsaw.
    I've found org.jboss.logmanager.log4j.handlers.Log4jAppenderHandler in the project
    groupIdorg.jboss.logmanager/groupIdartifactIdjboss-logmanager-log4j/artifactIdversion1.0.0.GA/version
    it's something that seems to be doing what I want but I can't use it as custom-handler
    custom-handler name="CHAINSAW" module="org.jboss.logmanager.log4j" class="org.jboss.logmanager.log4j.handlers.Log4jAppenderHandler" /
    because I can't instantiate it without giving it the appender object.
    any ideas?
    Michal.
    DB:2.26:Log4jappenderhandler Usage 8j
    Hi,
    I've just been testing JBoss AS 7.1.3 and I still got some logging issues.
    First of all, thanks to AS7-4925, I've been able to add a smtp log4j appender as a custom-handler. Great.
    Without any custom-handler defined, the logging system works fine. But when I add one or many (let's say n) custom appenders, my console is full of stdout log in addition to the standard console output.
    Where I should have only:
    2012-10-03 14:48:53,206 ERROR [parent.child1.child2.child3] (http-/0.0.0.0:80-1) Test
    I have;
    2012-10-03 14:48:53,206 INFO [stdout] (http-/0.0.0.0:80-1) 45324 [http-/0.0.0.0:80-1] ERROR parent.child1.child2.child3 - Test x n
    2012-10-03 14:48:53,206 ERROR [parent.child1.child2.child3] (http-/0.0.0.0:80-1) Test
    level name="INFO"/
    formatter
    pattern-formatter pattern="%d{yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss,SSS} %-5p %X{context}[%c] (%t) %s%E%n"/
    /formatter
    file relative-to="jboss.server.log.dir" path="server.log"/
    suffix value=".yyyy-MM-dd-a"/
    append value="true"/
    /periodic-rotating-file-handler
    root-logger
    level name="INFO"/
    handlers
    handler name="CONSOLE"/
    handler name="FILE"/
    /handlers
    /root-logger
    /subsystem
    As you can see, I even don't use the EMAIL handler. But just the definition of it, make those console outputs ! It seems that's because of the org.apache.log4j.BasicConfigurator.configure() method that is called by org.jboss.as.logging.handlers.custom.PropertiesConfigurator constructor , and add a console appender to the root logger. Is there a reason for that ?
    Thank you for reading
    I thought I would post this just in case it helps someone down the line.I recently upgraded from 3.2.1 to 3.2.3 and was receiving a BindException during startup. This was with no deployments other than what comes out of the box.The service that was not binding was the PooledInvoker. I looked at the conf\jboss-service.xml file and found that the port it is trying to use is port 4445. Well, I use Chainsaw to monitor the logs created by log4j. By default the Chainsaw gui listens on 4445. So that is where the conflict occured.I changed my bat file that I use to start chainsaw:
    java -Dchainsaw.port=4446 org.apache.log4j.chainsaw.Main
    DB:2.25:Logging Configuration Per Deployed Application as
    hi jboss community, is there any jboss way to add a log4j configuration into each ear ?? after lots of searching and 500 different tutorials, howtos and cookbooks on how to configure jboss-logging, I decided to post my question here...to the point: I am deploying 2 or 3 ears on 3 or 4 different jboss installations. I was wondering if I could place some log4j config file into the ear, so that I do not have to keep editing each jboss log4j config files for each ear on each jboss server. Managing the log4j configs is getting a very boring issue...brgds,papick
