    Hi jmochales,

I would recommend you to check the documentation. SharePoint backup, especially for distributed SharePoint farms, requires certain configurations and pre-requisites in order to work correctly.

For instance, if this is a distributed farm, you need to make sure you register the WSS writer in all WFE servers (Web Front End).

Then you need to create a snapshot based backup, and include all the servers members of the farm in there (WFE, SQL etc).

    My advice:

1.- Create a snapshot based group

2.- Register the WSS writer in all WFE servers

3.- Use client wizard to create the client for one of the WFE servers, and it automatically will create all required clients for you.

    Thank you,

    Carlos

LGTsc is problem id in EMC database (newer format is NWxxxxx, but at the time of issue identification older system was used).

GA stands general availability and usually represents 1st version which is considered available for public release. Such version are usually listed on PowerLink. Modules get fixed and they keep same numbering, but build number changes. Updates builds are given out by support once it is determined that problem reported will be or may be fixed by higher build. At certain point, those fixes from updated builds get rolled out to new release along with some new features.

Hi Guys,I am experiencing some sporadic issues with my Legato NetWorker environment. We are currently running Legato 7.1.4 build 577 Network Edition on a Win 2003 SP1 enterprise edition OS. The backups work OK most of the time, however there will be instances where we will see failures accross the datazone with the following error message:"client name" is not a registered client At first I thought it was a problem closely related to DNS, however the sporadic failures still occur if hosts tables are updated with the correct information on both the clients and the NetWorker server. The unusual this is that the NetWorker server will not back itself up either, failing on "client name" is not a registered client.. The issue is usually solved by a restart of the NetWorker services on the server.I am now leaning towards the theory that a 3rd party application maybe locking the /res files causing NetWorker to not recognise any of the clients, however I cannot quite pin it down.Has anyone experienced any similar issues? Thanks in adavncedd1980

Ah OK,The thing is we have 2 sites, 1 in the US and 1 in the UK. The 1 in the UK works without any problems at all, the 1 in the US is having the issues. Both servers are purely dedicated to NetWorker and they are both identical. The only difference is that the one in the US has more RAM.The interesting this is that the US data zone has less data to handle than the UK.I am going to upgrade the site 7.4.1 next week and then see how we go from there.

DB:3.10:Networker 7.6.3 Console Very Slow Responding ss

    Hi Greg,

Is the NetWorker server the same machine as the NMC server? If not, then the first thing you should check is the network connection speed between the two machines at the time of the problem.

If they are the same machine, check what processes are using a lot of CPU and Memory at the time of the problem and you'll probably be able to narrow down what is different between the times when there is a problem and when there isn't.

You should check the gstd.raw logfile as well to see if there are any errors. You will find this in 'C:\Program Files\Legato\Management\GST\logs' or equivalent.

Greetings!I am researching how to best protect our Networker server in the event of a disaster and am running into some brick walls. It would be ideal if Networker was similar to CommVault in the way it mirrors the control center to another server in an active/passive role. However, I'm told there isn't such a thing with Networker. I've done some searching and cannot find anything on my own.I have developed several alternatives of my own but am open to what others are doing and any ideas that the community may have if they have encountered the same scenario. We already make a bootstrap and store off site and have equipment ready to rack but would like a high availability solution.Any ideas?Thank you everyone in advance!-Jason

Sometimes we do the following (depends on the rest of the costumers design):There are two sites:We make the Networker Server an Virtual Server on VMWare;VMware uses Site Recovery Manager; On both sites there is an physical Storage Node, both Storage Nodes have access to the backupdevices. If one site fails SRM transports the Networker Server to the other site, with all functionality available

Apologies in advance if i'm asking obvious questions, but i'm fairly inexperienced in Networker.

We've got our Networker Server with a VTL attached and a node with a physical tape drive attached.

I've been kindly notified from a previous post that the bootstrap has to be backed up to the NW server, OK fine but what I need to do is get the bootstrap on to a physical tape somehow whenever I do a backup to either the NW server or a node. I am aware that I can clone a group (with the NW servers in it) but this will only copy the bootstrap when that group is backed up.

Is there a good way of getting the bootstrap cloned whenever any backup takes place?

    Thanks in advance

    Ian

    DB:3.07:Bootstrap Clones fx

    Ian,

There are many ways to achieve this but as you are not experienced probably the easiest way to achieve this is to set up a group which only has your NetWorker server in it and set the saveset to something small backing up a file or small directory. Then set this to run on a frequency you require (interval in the group can give you one backup a day set to 24, 2 set to 12 etc). Set the group to do a clone to a tape pool which is only available in the Physical library and this will clone the bootstrap and the small backup to physical tape.

You do not need to clone every bootstrap, as long as you have one available that is what you need. Many people do this backup after the main backups have gone through (early morning) and again just before the backup window starts (so you catch nay failures etc which you have taken care of during the day).

    Cheers

    Hi Mike,

The error looks be coming because the current user has no permission to take a backup of the mailbox. There is an article in powerlink that tells about the steps and permissions that have to be taken care of for a Exchange 2007 granular backup. I am not abe to find the link I have the contents of the artcle, here you go.

How Setup and Troubleshoot Mailbox backups on Exchange 2007

    1. MAPI CLIENT:

Make sure the Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1 is installed on the Exchange 2007 Server.

You can check if this is installed from START--SETTINGS--CONTROL PANEL--ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS

If is not installed, download the Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects from this link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E17E7F31-079A-43A9-BFF2-0A110307611Edisplaylang=en

    2. PERMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

To back up or recover a mailbox or public folder, the Windows domain account to log on to the NetWorker server host must be a member of the Exchange Administrators group.

To set the permissions for items in a mailbox for Exchange 2007:

2.1. Open an Exchange Management Shell window.

2.2 Add the following mailbox permissions:

get-ExchangeServer Exchange Server name | Add-AdPermission user username -extendedrights Receive-As,Send-As

For example if the user exchange is going to perform the backups for server saturn, you add:

    [MSH] C:\ get-ExchangeServer saturn | Add-AdPermission user exchange -extendedrights Receive-As,Send-As

    3. Make sure both SEND AS and RECEIVE AS have DENY = FALSE.

    [MSH] C:\get-mailboxserver saturn | get-adpermission -user exchange | format-list

    ExtendedRights : {Receive-As}

    4. Make sure the customer is using the same account listed in step 2 and 3 for backups. For scheduled backups, by default the SYSTEM account runs the backup unless a different account starts the NetWorker Remote Exec service or there is an account used for backups in the Remote User field (and password) under the client configuration Apps Modules tab.

Hi all,We have the following environment:Domain Controller(BEFORE) - Windows NT 4.0Domain Controller (AFTER): - Windows 2k3NetWorker Server:'cifmalava2' - 'cifmalava2.cofares.es'W2k3NW 7.3.3Last weekend all backups began to fail with errors. The change affects these problems is the update on the Domain Controller and DNS server. which was migrated from NT4 to W2K3 Server. The full name domain was not changed ".cofares.es" Before the change of the DNS server from the console the NetWorker Server "client" showed like 'cifmalava2', but now appears as 'cifmalava2.cofares.es'.We believe that Client ID of NetWorker Server has changed. One of the troubleshooting we have followed is to aplly the method of "Changing domain or name of the NetWorker Server"1.- Copy "nsr" directory to a safe location.2.- Change NetWorker Server name for a temporary.Ex:From Original_name 'cifmalava2' to Temporary_name 'cifmalava2tmp'3.- Change the status of the NetWorker services from automatic to manual: - EMC GST - NetWorker Backup and Recover server. - NetWorker Remote Exec service4.- Stop NetWorker services.5.- Rename current folder index of NetWorker Server "Current_Path_NetWorker\nsr\index\cifmalava2.cofares.es" for "Current_Path_NetWorker\nsr\index\cifmalava2.cofares.es.old"6.- Copy the old folder index "nsr\index\cifmalava2" to "Current_Path_NetWorker\nsr\index"After rename the path "Current_Path_NetWorker\nsr\index\cifmalava2" to "Current_Path_NetWorker\nsr\index\cifmalava2.cofares.es"7.- Reboot NetWorker Server8.- Start NetWorker services.9.- From NetWorker Mangament console - Configure - Clients - Delete all instances of the Client (NetWorker Server).10.- Stop NetWorker services.11.- Change NetWorker Server name by its Original name.Ex:From Temporary_name 'cifmalava2tmp' to Original_name 'cifmalava2'12.- Reboot NetWorker Server.13.- Start NetWorker services.14.- Run the following command "savegrp -O group_name" - But only the indexes and bootstrap of NetWorker Server work well. The rest fail.- Backups of data (Ex. with C:\, SYSTEM save sets, etc, ...) also fail.Do you have any idea about a similar situation? Thanks, regards,EER

You mean that you installed NW 8 on the client? In that case I would suggest to downgrade the client to NW 7.6.x and keep NME.

On the other hand, NME will be EOL'd in December 2012, so you have only one month left of support.

I would suggest you to keep 7.6.x on the client, and install NMM 2.3, which still supports Exchange 2003, but as far as I know NW 8 and NME are not compatible=not supported.

    Ahmed,

Great subject... if I may interject a bit.. I might add a bit more... for instance:

How static vs dynamic is your environment?

Meaning, if you have a static never or barely changing environment than consider the static license.

If you environment is grown leaps and bounds or you need many to add many modules, that is where the flexibility of the Capacity License is a wonderful solution. Allowing you to add or delete any and all options at our disposal and only paying a difference during the annual audit.

You simply use the command line

then delete the SS as follows:

    nsrmm -d -S ssid

NW does know where the save set is stored.

Not much of an issue as backup is ok. What is says is that direct save for given saveset was not possible so legacy method was used most likely (unless server was not busy afterwards - for example total of server sessions was such that it could not accept any new sessions).

    Hi members,

in the past (7.6.x and earlier) we used the bootstrap notification not to directly send the bootstrap via email (e.g. to root) but to temporary store the information in a file and copy it via scp to a monitoring server (all linux). Since we moved to NetWorker 8.x this seems not to work anymore. Here the command we have been using in the 'Action' field until now:

    /bin/cat /tmp/bootstrap.$$;scp /tmp/bootstrap.$$ special_user@monitoring-server:~/Bootstraps/Bootstrap; rm /tmp/bootstrap.$$

    Thanks!

    DB:2.91:Networker 8.0.1.1 Bootstrap Notification dz

This is correct - I found myself the same. Bootstrap workflow has been changed as those who didn't use "no index save" were having some big performance issues with mminfo -B which would run upon completion of the group. So, trick with cat no longer works in NW8. However, mminfo -B is now fast so you may wish to call it instead.

Assuming your NetWorker installation path is in executable path and "RICOH" is a system defined printer something like this should work for you:echo "ABCD" | nsrlpr -PRICOHFor the bootstrap printout he value RICOH is entered in NW group resource in Printers field.Next have a notification created for the bootrap, or better modify the existing notification with the Action field like this:nsrlpr -P%PRINTERPlease keep in mind that for bootstrap only one notification can be created.I don't know about the reason this being restricted.HTHRegards

DB:2.84:Bootstrap Cannot Determine Status Of The Backup Process j7

NetWorker numbers can be seen as X.Y.Z. X is the major release, Y is minor release and Z is patch level. Those patch levels sometimes include new features, but usually main purpose for them is to address identified issues. Those issues are listed in bug fix list which is available from docs section. Major release can be sometimes also X.5.Z, but since 7.3 version EMC broke that rule for some reason.Sometimes, before next patch release is ready and due to major problem or major number of issues, jumbo patch is release. Usually those will have significant number of fixes, but not as fothcoming patch release. For example, 7.3.1 has jumbo patch and after that (I think 2 or 3 weeks) 7.3.2 was released. Now, 7.3.2 will get its own jukbo patch. Difference between these versions can be seen via build number (usually pointing to number of code changes).

This is because with Networker 8.0, Data Domain DD Boost integration has been added to Networker. This means that RMAN backups can be taken with Networker 8.0 using Data Domain DD Boost. See this white paper for more information on that combination.

Mike, thanks for getting back to me, you are right, it is too late - I didn't realize you didn't need to uninstall SQL Express...but that being said.
I got around the installation sa login issue by saying switching from windows mode authentication to mixed and putting in a sa login when installing the program and it worked.  Not sure where it will affect things down the line...but right now I am testing the software on a local machine - not sure where it will end up.
It was very frustrating and I still don't have an answer, other than my work around. The log said it established an sa but then...lost it somehow...I don't really know and don't want to waste your time trying to figure it out since I got it to work.
    Thanks!

DB:2.79:How I Can Prevent Bootstrap Backup? dc

    Hello everybody,

    my infrastructure is the following

A networker server, one library directly connected and managed by a VNX5300.

We only have to backup NDMP data. We have license for 1 library and an NDMP client.

Networker tried to backup bootstrap even if the BackupServer client is in a passive group (A NetWorker group resource attribute with autostart set to no).

    regards

    Alberto

DB:2.79:How I Can Prevent Bootstrap Backup? dc

    Hi Alberto,

Yes this is by NetWorker Design , If your backup server backs up as part of a scheduled group then the bootstrap will back up as part of that group, if not the bootstrap will backup at completion of every group. As if savegrp detects that the NetWorker server is not listed in any active group (a group with its autostart attribute set), then the servers bootstrap is saved with every group. Even if you use the skip level , bootstrap will be backed up.

    Hi.

I was browsing through the release notes for NetWorker 7.5.2. There it says in the list of new features in 7.5.2 on page 5:

Offline Restore using Windows Server Backup with NetWorker on page 7

Then in the text on page 7, it only says that you can get information about how to do a DR restore with Windows Server Bacup utility.

This statement in the release notes is tuning up expectations for NetWorker customers that EMC has made NW 7.5.2 compatible to backup and DR restore an 2008 server without the need for the Windows Backup utility.

index 39077:save: error, no matching devices for save of client `*************; check storage nodes, devices or pools.

I noticed when I created the Data Domain Device in Networker that it automatically added one of the Tape Devices along with the Data Domain rd: devices. I deselected the Tape device because the customer wants to get away from tape. I'm thinking I'm getting the error due to that the metadata along with the bootstrap information is trying to get backup to tape for DR purposes

    Hello,

Im new with EMC Legato Networker it seems that we're having a problem un backing up the backup server itself.

The following are the data that we've gathered to be able to point out what is causing the problem.

    Server Name: aap4bck1

Group: "Windows Testers" that runs daily at 8am.

    Defined save set: NMCASA:/gst_on_aap4bck1/lgto_gst

    Networker Management Console 7.6.1

    Library: HP MSL G3 Series

Whenever the backup run, the aap4bck1 client always fails with the following messages. All other part of this group was backed up successfully except for this one. I cant remember if this was only recently encountered because the administrator before already left.

I do not know which tape was the last, and where the bootstrap exists so as I understand I have to scan all tapes which are in library.Another thing. I use nsrjb -lnv -S # -f device_name and after that scanner -B device_nameit loads the tape into device but with scanner -B command I get scanner: error, read open error: No media in drive.scanner: No bootstrap locatedWhy it shows me "No media in drive"library is configured properly.

    DB:2.75:Recovery Of Networker Server 79

I tried that and it doesn't work that way of course - so it had to be something else in your case. In start NW doesn't know about any media so it can't mount it. No inventory will change that. This is why to scan the tape you load it either via jukebox management or via no-mount option. Once that mmrecov is done - it is only then that inventory will work as tapes will be known to NW media db.

You would use hostids if you wish to have multiple IPs licensed and this is typically done for cluster configuration so that licenses are valid after failover to different system.

DB:2.72:Backing Up Of Indexes And Bootstrap Using Storagenode. dz

Certainly you can try to direct it, but what would be the purpose? If saving indices on backup server represents load on the server I believe you have certain problems you wish to address much before. EDIT: I just did a test and indeed, NW seems to allows now to save index to storage node. Bootstrap and server's index of course will be still saved on server. Funny enough, nsrck -L7 required reboot for certain files to be recovered completely (!?) - not sure if this is related to this sort of approach or something else (I have never seen that before while doing index restores).

The bootstrap would be backed up only if you use backup groups. If it is a client initiated backup (using the save command or the gui), the bootstrap would not be backed up.

Hi all.I've set Networker to have 2 backup pools: Full and Incremental (besides the default ones). They are not bound to any group and their selection criteria is chosen by backup level. When a full backup occurs, the pool Full is used and all goes well until the end (which includes saving the bootstrap and index). When an incremental backup is performed (with the Incremental pool being selected), all goes well until we need to save the bootstrap and index at which point Networker asks for the Default pool.I added the "Bootstrap" and "index" entries to the Incremental pool "save sets" entry but the problem persists.Anyone knows if I'm missing something ? How can i configure it so that the bootstrap and index are saved along with the incremental backup as well ?I'm using Networker 7.3.2.Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to find the process for recovering a Windows NetWorker Backup Server.

The Disaster Recovery Guide does not provide sufficient detail and the EMC SolVe Generator also seems to omit a section on how to perform a BMR of the NetWorker server when there is no NetWorker server to connect to. However, it does elude to using BMR to bring back the OS first. Can anyone point me in the direction of an article that explains that process?

I am familiar with the process of recovering the NW Server from scratch e.g. rebuilding the OS, installing NetWorker, configuring devices and then recovering the bootstrap. However, if there is a process for recovering the OS with BMR I would like to test that.

    Hello,

I'm doing some recovery tests. We have Networker 8.1117 on Windows 2008 R2 sever.

For recovery tests, I have installed networker on my test server on the same version than my production one. It was running fine, I was able to access the NMC without problem.

So I have start my recover just as I was doing with Networker 7.6 :

Load my tape without mounting, run a scanner -B \\.\Tape0\ to get the bootstrap id and the file number.

Run the "mmrecov" to restore the "res" folder

Then I have stopped the networker services, renamed the original "res" folder as "res.old" and the "res.R" as "res"

An finally restart the Networker services.

But this time the "EMC GST Service" failed to start. So the Management Console is not available.

Networker is running fine. I was able to recreate my index using "nsrck -L7" command and I am able to restore data using Networker Client.

I have tried to remove and reinstall the NMC but I still have the same problem.

I have tried to upgrade networker to version 8.1118 : no change.

When I run the gstd.exe program and the apache server on dos windows it works... but they failed to start as services.

    Any idea ?

Not knowing exactly, but it seems that for the 3600-series one cant upgrade ROMMON in any other way than replacing the chip. (All but one anyway - 3631 seems to be sw-upgradeable)

You should be able to order

DB:2.68:Aes Encryption Is Not Secure d9

To anyone out there using AES encryption, here is some information you may or may not know:When NetWorker backs up the Bootstrap, it does not encrypt it even if you have turned on AES encryption for the NetWorker server. This in itself isn't too bad except that the boostrap includes the AES Encryption Key!!! (from the Datazone Phass Phrase parameter). So you can recover the bootstrap without knowing your encryption key which will in effect allow you to read any encrypted data as recovery of the bootstrap recovers the encryption key.I discovered this issue (which I believe is a major security breach) when I was testing our disaster recovery procedures. It's hard for me to believe, given the almost daily reports of lost tapes and data privacy breaches, that Legato would either a) not encrypt the bootstrap, or b) not include the Datazone Pass Phrase in the bootstrap backups. Either one would effectively close this loophole.I am making this post in the hopes that other NetWorker users who are using AES encryption have this knowledge that their data may not be as secure as they think. I also hope that more people will raise this issue with Legato to get them to change how NetWorker performs it's bootstrap backup.

DB:2.68:Aes Encryption Is Not Secure d9

Thanks... but I believe bootstrap backup is forNetWorker Server recovery..If you don't recover NW db how do you plan to recover data? With uasm? Good luck to you And if the bootstrap backup is for other clientrecovery also... we dont want to take any risk withdata.I just want this bootstrap backup to be stopped forall clients...In your case I believe bootstrap might be running for each group you have. Without getting into details why is so as this subject has already been discussed here, if you really wish to separate bootstrap from data simply create so called index pool where bootstrap would be written and thus you separate it. Based on your response I would say you do not know about bootstrap and its importance thus I would suggest you keep it running all the time.

    Hi,

We recently upgrded the networker server from 7.6.1.3 to 8.1.1.9. After the upgrade server has gon to hung state many times, usually when many jobs are started in the evening and restarting the service is the only solution we have.

Our Networker server is in HPUX 2 node cluster with 2000+ clients.

    OS : HP-UX B.11.23 U ia64

    Storage nodes : 4 (3 HPUX + 1 Redhat Linux)

    Previous version : 7.6.1.3

    Current Version : 8.1.1.9

    Summary of the issue

Networker server is in HPUX 2 node cluster. On 15th Nov 2014, after the upgrade we did afailover test from node A to second node A. Issue started after we switched back the package to node1, where it was running before theupgrade.
We enabled the nsrauth in the networker server Server was working fine for almost an hour and then went into hung state. We stopped the services, cleared /nsr/tmp in server and storage nodes and restarted serviceand still had issue.Rebooted the server and also the storage nodesCleared the peer information on server and storage nodes and restarted the service on storage nodes and server. After this server worked for 3 days.During these 3 days, we didnt use the NMC as we suspect that the issue would have caused from the NMC server. Reference Service Request Management #67222032Meanwhile there were lot of GSS related error messages found in the daemon.log, EMC suggested to upgrade the networker client version to 8.1.1.9 SR # 67222032We upgraded around 2000 clients and made the necessary changes that were suggested by DSE support and rebooted the Networker server and storage nodes on 26th Nov 2014. After the server came up, we received an error message for a storage node storage node not ready. This issue was fixed by adding the networker server details in the /etc/hosts file of storage nodeServer went into hung state on Friday 26th Nov 2014 when the full backups started. From then server went into hung state multiple times.

    Actions performed

Could someone please help me with this issue... Has anyone already come across such issue with version 8.1.1.9?

DB:2.67:Bootstrap Clone To Storage Node : Recovery When No Local Drive On The Server? ja

    Hello.

Our Networker server (7.6.1) has no physical drive directly attached, only a local disk as a drive (DiskBackup Tier) to save bootstrap.

We also have a storage node with a library and 3 LTO drives.

We will clone bootstrap to storage node's library (if it's a good idea).

I'm looking for the way I can restore the bootstrap if I loose my networker server :

I know I can't restore bootstrap directly from the storage node.

How can I restore the bootstrap without any LTO drive on the server ?

Is it possible to "copy" data from the drive to a reconfigured local drive (DiskBackup Tier) and then restroe the server ?

Is ther any other idea or solution ?

Is there any other way to restore the server's bootstrap ?

    Thanks.

DB:2.67:Bootstrap Clone To Storage Node : Recovery When No Local Drive On The Server? ja

    Stephanie,

Cover from raid or disk replication onto another disk on same site would give you a copy locally, however given the importance of the backup server within the environment presenting an LTO via fibre over that distance should be possible or attaching a standalone LTO drive directly via SCSI would also give you option.

Be careful though as if you just backup to LTO locally or clone to tape bootstrap/index backups the tape can hold several hundreds/thousands (depending on your environment size) before becoming full and becomes single point of failure (we have had customers in the past where there were many months worth of bootstraps on tape and hardware failure chewed the tape and they were exposed).

    Hi All,

    Thanks in advance.

My question is how to downgrade networker 8.1.1.2 to 7.6.2?

Recently we have upgraded networker server 7.6.2 to 8.1.1.2

We are having LTO4 quantum library.

Problem when i try to label any lto4 cartridge. it gives errors "499002 Error: Error reading volume label: Cannot use volume `KTT516L4' with incorrect volid 71504713-00000005-00147136-53147136-00011400-dc16214f"

We have tried with some different cartridge still the problem is same.

We suspect corruption in networker database.

Please help us in resolving this issue.

DB:2.67:How To Downgrade Networker 8.1.1.2 To 7.6.2? af

It is one way ticket. Well, you can do it, but since you asked question I assume it would take too much do this now, do then posts so just leave it. If you wish to label it, which means get tape of scratch, you can simply delete it from media database, like nsrmm -dy KTT516L4 and that will remove volume and associated data from database. Now you can label it via nsrjb.

    e. Set allow_duplicate_client_names to true.

    f. Save your changes and restart MCS:

Most probably it is communication issue , so make sure that the connection and naming resolution is correct, use the ping and nslookup (by IP and name) to check the naming resolution. Also make sure that the services is started, and check the same wizard again after disabling any firewalls between the two hosts.

Not quite a Networker issue but a general backup related query... Does anyone know of a source of good information related to the cleaning of LTO drives (such as how the drives decide they need cleaning, how this information is passed to Networker, is the clean an abrasive clean or something else etc)?

    DB:2.66:Lto Cleaning xj

I'm not sure if LTO standards define how cleaning should be done or if this is left to vendor itself... but I remember early days and those statements that cleaning was not required. Things went so far at one moment that official claim was LTO didn't need cleaning while they did existed and HW support did have it, but they were not available on market. I would speculate that early plan was that LTO could provide technology where cleaning would not be required (something like dust-cleaning mechanism we see in modern dSLR cameras where there would be a micro shake of head "cleaning" the dirt of the head). Obviously that didn't work and cleaning tapes were reintroduced.

Tape 37 was used for the actual full backup but by the time all the clone jobs were completed the bootstrap tape filled up and NW started using tape 1172.So my question is which bootstrap tape do I store with the cloned tapes being sent off-site, 37 or 1172? my guess would be BS tape 37 does not know anything about the clones so I should pull BS tape 1172. I am assuming it has to be do something with the LSN number on the replicated MYSQL db. Have you tried reaching out to the support on this.

Please share the cfg file that you are using, also try taking a backup of the DB using "mrsqlbackup" tool.

DB:2.65:Nw 7.4 Stop Bootstrap Backup On Storage Node 7z

Hi AllI have a question from one of our clients with regards to Networker 7.4.When he does a backup of data from a storage node it also does a Bootstrap Backup Everytime. He would like to know if there is anyway to disable the Bootstrap backup? Thanks Sean

You can't stop it, but you can lower frequency of bootstrap backups. There is an article on when bootstrap backup gets generated (depends if server's client is in active group and if you have no index save checked in group properties) so I would suggest to study that one.

DB:2.65:Compatibility Matrix Between Networker Versions j3

    Hello,

I'm looking for a compatibility matrix och similiar if it exists (can seem to find any) for which versions of NetWorker that are compatible between each other.

For example I'm looking for information if NetWorker Client 7.4.5 can be used as a client to a NetWorker Server 7.6. I have an old Windows 2000 Server with SQL 7.0 that needs SQL module 5.1.1 for SQL 7.0 and SQL module 5.1.1 kan only be used on a NetWorker client 7.4.5. I need to know if that still can be backuped to a NetWorker Server 7.6.

    Many thanks,

    Johan Ljunggren

This might be a long shot.

We have a NW 6.1.4 Server. Can it backup 7.6 clients w/ SQL? I will be using 5.2.1 MS SQL module.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Kev
