    Hei

    Veldig glad for all hjelp

DB:3.29:Fresh Installering Af Virtual Center Server 8k

In the design the firewalls are missing because are not important for our discussion about vmware permissions.

But why you think is crazy?

    1) You don't like virtual machines on the Internet (but Internet providers must do this)

    2) You think is better don't give VI client over the Internet

To try keeping the logs as small as possible either set recovery model to simple or backup the DB often. Keep in mind that with simply recovery model you're not able to reapply transaction logs to your last full DB backup because evary checkpoint they're automatically truncated by SQL Server. This means that if the you have storage problems on the drive that holds the database files you loose any data collected after last full db backup.

BTW Natiboy, you can use table partitioning functionality to automatically move old data to file groups distinct from the primary one so you can both have long time records and quick response for retrievieng most recent data.

    Hope this helps,

In VC select your ESX Servre, goto Configuration tab, click licensed features..

You should be able to see what your licensed for..

If their isnt anything listed, click edit and work through all 3 sections..

License source should be the VC itself..

If your still getting "not enough license..."

you may need to check the .lic file, sometimes its get corrupt, or it doesnt get created properly.. you can launch the licsence admin tool and re-read etc..

    oRight-click on icon inside VM

oClick on About tab ie. build-32039 this should match your ESX server version

Check Vmware Tools version (on ESX server)

DB:2.96:Connectivity Alarms Following Upgrade To 2008 R2 On The Virtual Center Server kk

I recently encountered an issue with my Virtual Center server that I think others might encounter. I had Virtual Center version 4.0 running on a Windows 2008 R1 x64 standalone box. MS-SQL runs on the same box. Three weeks ago I upgraded the OS to 2008 R2 without incident. Then two weeks ago I upgraded Virtual Center to version 4.1, again without incident. Then last week on all twenty of my 4.0 ESX hosts, Virtual Center gave me an alarm for Host Connection and Power State. Investigation showed that 2008 R2 had suddenly decided to use ipv6 even though ipv6 is unchecked in the protocol stack. Presumably VC registered its ipv6 address with each of the ESX hosts who found since we dont route ipv6, they could not reach the Virtual Center server so they raised an alarm. The fix was to really disable ipv6 in the operating system on the VC server by executing:

    reg add "hostname"\HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tcpip6\Parameters /v DisabledComponents /t REG_DWORD /d 0xffffffff /f

After a reboot of the Virtual Center server to make the above change operative, the ESX hosts slowly cleared their alarm status. Or I could force the status to clear by briefly putting a host in maintenance mode then restoring it to production. As an aside, I have observed this behavior with Server 2008 R2 in other contexts. My domain controllers would suddenly decide to start using ipv6, sometimes weeks after the upgrade to 2008 R2. In all cases, the above registry change fixed the problem. The problem can be tough to identify since it appears after weeks of flawless communication following an upgrade to 2008 R2.

    Hello,

I am runing a test backup server, and trying to test out the new features of SP2. I am having troubles recognizing the virtual center. My backup server is windows server 2008 R2 Standard.

The problem is that all the discovery runs fine as shown in the attachment, but then my virtual center is still empty, and I can't seem to see the virtual machines that I would need to backup.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hi Experts,

When i do acquisition of asset through f-90 i am not able to get cost center in cost center filed which is already maintined in Asset Master but i can see profit center in profit center field but i can make a posting against same asset through f-90.

I have already maintained all cost center/profit center field as an optional entry mode for all asset related accounts.

When i run depreciation, its not posting into cost center but its posting into profit center.

Note: In cost center i am already maintain profit center also.

    regards,

    DB:2.96:F-90 Cost Center Problem ds

    Gopi,

The aquasition accounts are balance sheet accounts and not cost accounts, there is for SAP no reason to fill in a cost center.

When you have create from this balance sheet account a statistical cost element (type 99) the you have to make a FI substitution with a use exit to get the cost center from the asset and fill in the cost center field in the FI posting.

Have a look to in asset accounting if the cost center it is assigned to a balance sheet account.

SPRO: Financial Accounting / Integration with the General Ledger / Additional Account Assignment Objects / Activate Account Assignment Objects.

I don't see any reason to assign for asset accounting balance sheet accounts a cost center to it. In asset accounting there are reports to select by costcenter or you can report from PCA.

Your next message is the problem that it is not working the balance sheet accounts for depreciation

    Hi,

I think there is a bug in virtual center, because the function findByUuid can not find a virtual machine, which is a template.

Maybe, this problem is result from update virtual center 2.0.0 to 2.0.1 .

    I use Java+Axis.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Niko

DB:2.95:The Findbyuuid-Function Can Not Find Templates ja

Actually, this was a bug fix from 2.0. A UUID is intended to be a Unique ID and is only assigned when a VM is instantiated. As such, this was viewed as a bug (no real VM, no real UUID).

    Hope this helps.

DB:2.95:Cannot View Desired Ip Address For A Vm In Virtual Center dj

I wonder if anyone has a solution for this:

Almost all of my virtual machines running under ESX 2.5.3 and ESX 3.0.1 have two virtual NICs. One is connected to a public LAN virtual switch, the second NIC is connected to a private backup network. Both switches have multiple physical NICs associated with them.

My problem is that I would like Virtual Center to display the IP address associated with the NIC bridged to the public network. However Virtual Center seems to have a mind of it's own. In the list of VMs on a host, it sometimes displays the IP for the Public virtual NIC, and for other VMs it displays the IP address associated with the private backup network.

I have deleted and re-created the virtual NICs in every possible order, and it has no effect. Ideas?

    Hi,

I am running virtual center V1.2. I found that all of a sudden the VMs displayed under the ESX hosts in VC do not match the actual virtual machine names. For example, although it says under virtual center repository that the vm is VM1, when you logon to the VM and check the actually computer name, it is actually VM2, the hard disk (vmdk) is also pointing to VM2.

Is that a bug with virtual center?? How can I fix it? Remove the ESX hosts from virtual center and re-add it (but would lose the performance data)? Reboot the ESX hosts? Does anyone know what is the cause of the problem and how cna I fix it permanently??

Perhaps try adjusting the size of your paging file. What OS do you have? In XP do this:

    Start
    Right Click - My Computer
    Properties
    Advanced
    Performance
    Settings
    Advanced
    Virtual Memory
    Change

Then you can chose the size of the paging file you want, generally 1 1/2 times the amount of RAM.

    Hello Everyone,

Here is the situation. I installed ESX 3.5 with 4 Virtual Machines and also one template. I could see all of them in the virtual center with no problem until last week. Last week I had to change the ESX Host IP Address, I did that with no problems and reassoicated the Virtual Center with the new IP address etc. That worked great and it brought back the four virtual machines I had in the past. Problem is my template that I used to see is now gone from the virtual center. I see the files are still there when I go into ESX but it doesnt show up in the GUI. Could someone tell me how to find it and get it back?

Also as the other poster said the logs should have some great information that may shed some light on the issue.

If the VC db goes down it only affects admins... and you can still revert managing VMs on a ESX host by ESX host basis...

If you must the sql db could be a cluster... two installations of VC - one powered off and one powered down. In event of a failure of either SQL db or the VC - you would have redundency...

If I remember right, another thread discussed losing connections. Ended up being a full drive. Make sure your VC server isn't running out of space.

You need to simply open your windows services and verify that all the services for VMware on your VC's OS (start - run -gt; services.msc) are running under valid user accounts (or system) to continue to function.

If your user account is being used to run any of these services, just make sure to change the uname / password.

DB:2.89:Virtual Center And Proxy Server Can Be In One Hardware? 7f

VirtualCenter 2.5 and Consolidated Backup can coexist on the same system. However, because the Consolidated Backup proxy should be locked down as much as possible, VMware does not recommend this setup.

    http://www.vmware.com/support/vi3/doc/vi3_vcb15_rel_notes.html

This is also not recommended for enterprise environments in the 'VMware Consolidated Backup: Best Practices and Deployment Considerations' document.

I am looking for a solution for Virtual Center failover. Can I run a second VC server (connected to the database) with Virtual Center disabled? If primary VC server goes down, enabled VC on the second server. Can I have 2 Virtual center servers running at the same time?

    Thank you in advance!

    DB:2.89:Virtual Center Server Failover a7

Why Mr. Parker! Gasp! I have actually seen the exact opposite - most people use a physical machine for VC unless they have no spare hardware. I know VMware wrote a whitepaper on this topic and yes, you can certainly run VC in a virtual machine, but that adds an extra layer of Catch22 that sysadmins usually try to avoid. Also in large enviornments running it in a VM may make things sluggish.

    Hi,

I have a problem with the Virtual Center Version 2.0.2 ..

After working some time in the vc, it closes itself with the message: "Connection to the server has been lost. The application will now exit" ..

Do you have any ideas what the problem is?

The last change I did was an update from SQL2000 to SQL2005 while installing the new version of vc 2.0.2..

In the event log of the virtual center server Ive found this:

"The VMware VirtualCenter Server service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 209 time(s).The following corrective action will be taken in 300000 milliseconds:Restart the service."

    DB:2.89:Problem With Virtual Center s7

Was your VC service linked to a service account? After the upgrade or install it reverts back to log into the database as a Local System account. manually change the VMware VirtualCenter Server Service account to use the credentials for your database.

DB:2.89:Virtual Center Fails To Restart kd

We have identified a reproduceable problem with our virtual center 2.0.2 installation running on windows 2003 R2 server against SQL Server 2005 SP2. We have a workaround for this problem, but I believe there has to be some config somewhere to prevent this from happening.

To reproduce the problem, we shut down the virtual center server. When the server restarts, and the virtual center service restarts the following error is recorded in the vmx log

"ODBC error: (01000) - [ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionRead (recv())." is returned when executing SQL statement "UPDATE VPX_LOCK SET ID = 0"

Failed to intialize VMware VirtualCenter. Shutting down...

Our workaround to this solution, is to log into the SQL server, and run the command sp_who, then kill off all the stale sql sessions from the virtual center service. Once this has been done, the service starts fine.

Any ideas on how to stop this happening ?

DB:2.89:Virtual Center Fails To Restart kd

VMWare admitted that their is a problem where sql connections are not released on shutdown of the virtual center. Might get fixed sometime.

There is not a separate install executable just for the console, it would be nice though. A couple of alternatives are to create a custom install package and push with SMS to those who need it; or what I did for those people outside my immediate team that needed access was to install it on a Terminal Server and give them access this way. The other bonus of doing it this way is that you dont have to worry about people having different versions of the console installed, you just upgrade the version on your terminal server.

I will post a request for this over in the Feature Request forum, go on over and add your support.

DB:2.88:There Are Not Enough Licenses Installed To Perform The Operation dd

There's couple of things I've done when this has happened to me.

    1. Go to the licence server and rescan the licence file

    2. On the licence server run the diagnostics to make sure that there are available licences (which also means that it can read the licence file)

    3. In virtualcenter, click on the Admin button and go to the licence tab and make sure that you can see the available licences.

    4. In virtualcenter, select the esx host, click on the configuration tab and select the Licenced Features option. In Licenced Sources, click on edit and make sure that you are pointing at the correct licence server.

These steps usually resolve the issue for me.

The only other thing that I have done to cause this kind of issues is I have added the SingleHost licence to the licence file and this causes the licences to not work.

Is it possible to use esx infrastructure 3 without virtual center.

How can I manage license, Guests, .... ?

DB:2.88:Esx Infrastructure 3 Without Virtual Center xc

They already answered this question. The license base is a CHOICE. If you setup a separate machine to host VC, then you can use license base server and this MUST be used if you expect to have Vmotion functionality, otherwise, VC is the \*ONLY* licensed based option you have.

It's either EACH ESX host picks up its own license from a license file, or it gets it from a license server (VM License Server).

Do you want to use Vmotion? If yes, you \*MUST* use VC with server based license.

DB:2.87:Firsttime Login To Virtual Center Does Not Work 33

OK...let me explain what works for me...it would be close to what you have as well, if I got it right

Login as the domain user who as Local Admin rights

The domain user is also the DBO of the database

Install VC Server and ask it to use the remote SQL database. During installation, use windows authentication, and provide the username and password to VC (username=domainname\username)

I have not checked, but I think the service starts as local system account on the VC server and accesses the database using the domainname\username I provided earlier.

Both the VC Server and SQL Server are on the same domain.

Are these the same steps that you took for installing the VC Server?

    Cheers

This would be down to the fact you are running 2 web services competing for port 80/443.

You could continue to run IIS but then your default port would need to be changed and your website updated to reflect that port number. It would probably be easier to manage to simply keep IIS away from the VC server.
