DB:4.05:Same Fqdn In Multiple Smtp Virtual Servers xp

I have a 2-server Exchange 2003 Organization. There is one Default SMTP Virtual Server on each server. There is only one SMTP connector we created under First Routing Group-Connectors and
only one of the servers is listed as the Bridgehead in this SMTP connector. The server we are listing there is the one with an FQDN of mail.mycompany.com.

My question is if I can use the same FQDN name on the second server Default SMTP Virtual Server settings and put this server as a second bridgehead.

Can this be done without any problems?

DB:4.05:Same Fqdn In Multiple Smtp Virtual Servers xp

Then you have less to worry about if those 2 are all you have. Because for internal routing calculation it used to find the SMTP VS based on the default internal FQDN via DNS queries, but starting with Ex 2003 it uses IP than falls back to DNS if all unassigned
    IPs are used.

DB:3.76:Relay E-Mail Through Multiple Virtual Servers (Different Sent From Email Addresses) To Office 365 jj

    Hi All,
I have a client that is using Office 365. They have multiple devices that would like to relay e-mails like scan to email and an accounting program. I have server 2012 R2 set up as an SMTP server to relay e-mails to office 365 with a scanner@ email address.
However, I would like to use a different email address for the accounting program. When I make another virtual server and specify the authentication to use the new e-mail account, it seems to cause problems with the first virtual server. I have set relay restrictions
so that only the scanners use the first connector and the accounting PC only is the only device that can use the second connector.
From testing, on the local SMTP server (yes i added the smtp servers local IP just to test the virtual servers), it appears that it work sometimes and not others... almost in a round robin fashion.
It is my understanding that these devices 'send from' address has to match up with the authenticating email address on Office 365. Hence why I tried to use multiple virtual servers.
Can anyone tell what I am doing wrong? thanks!

DB:3.76:Relay E-Mail Through Multiple Virtual Servers (Different Sent From Email Addresses) To Office 365 jj

Rather than using authenticated accounts, have you considered whitelisting the source IP address to allow unauthenticated traffic from those devices? (I'd recommend ensuring you have Outbound port 25 restricted to those particular devicesonyour
firewall before going this direction.) You can configure an Inbound Connector in EOP to accept mail from specific IP addresses without requiring TLS/authentication.

I have installed Exch 2007 but it is not communicating with Exch 2003. I cannot replicate public folders and users on the Exch 03 server cannot email users on the exch 07 server. I think I have narrowed this problem down to a the routing group connectors..

Our Exch 03 server does not use the default SMTP virtual server, a previous employee could only get Exch 03 to send mail by disabling the default SMTP server and creating a new one, Exch 03 has run like this for about 2 years now...

    My question is...

When I look at the properties from  the Exch03-exch07 connector it shows the disabled SMTP virtual server as the only server. How do I change the server value to show the correct (non-default smtp virtual server)....From Exch 03 all options are grayed out and I do not know the syntex to use in power shell to change the server Address... (The physical server address is correct but the virtual server is not correct).

I have created a new connector using the : New-routinggroupconnector cmdlet but this also used the default SMTP virtual server...

Presuming that I cannot get the default SMTP virtual server working (which I cannot).. Does anyone know the syntax to use in powershell to get my servers to communicate.

    All help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi all,
I have a 2 site architecture, in site 1 there is an Exchange 2010 working fine, in site 2 I have an Exchange 2003 server with clients in operation, and a second Exchange Server 2010 version. In this second server, I will move the users that I have in Exchange
2003, but I need that the second server works just fine, move the users to Exchange 2010 and erase Exchange 2003.
Actually I have moved 3 users to server 2 (the 2010 Exchange version) and everithing works fine, except email messages that I send to the site A, when I send an email to site A, an SMTP Relay to Remote Active Directory Site connector appears on the Queue
Viewer and the email message, stocks there.

    Any Idea?

We have a single Exchange 2003 SP2 server running in a Windows 2003 AD.  I installed a single Exchange 2007 SP1 server with plans to migrate all mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007.  I have created a single mailbox on the Exchange 2007 server for testing purposes.  At this time I am able to send email to internal users from the Exchange 2003 server (Exch03) to the Exchange 2007 server (Exch07) and vice versa.  I am able to send email externally from Exch07.  I am not able to receive email externally on the Exch07 server being routed from the Exch03 server.  I would like it to be setup right now to route all incoming emails through the Exch03 server until I can move the majority of the mailboxes over to the Exch07 server.  When I look at the queues on the Exch03 server I see my external emails (only going to the test mailbox on the Exch07 server) sitting in the 'Messages queued for deferred delivery' queue that displays my 'External' SMTP Virtual server as the source.  I did setup the new 'External' SMTP server and assigned it the DMZ Ip address so I could use the 'Default SMTP' server instance to route emails between Exch03 and Exch07.  Did I miss a step to configure inbound email routing between the two systems? Current setup: Exch03   2 NICS      1-internal      1-DMZ   2 SMTP Virtual Servers      1-Called 'External' routes email to internet using smart host      1-Called 'Default SMTP Virtual Server' is used by Exchange RGC between Exch03 and Exch07 (Created by install of Exch07)   1 Routing Group Connector      Created during install of Exch07 and uses 'Default SMTP Virtual Server' Exch07    2 NICS       1-Internal       1-DMZ but not active yet Hub Transport, Client Access and Mailbox server roles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I have resolved my issue.  If anyone else is having the same issue here is what I did. Removed the smart host from the SMTP Virtual Server (this step is very important) Create a new SMTP connector routing all emails to the smart host. Now my setup is only one SMTP virtual server and two routing group connectors: 1=SMTP and 1=to Exch07

DB:3.42:Defaut Smtp Receive Connector Exchange 2010 pc

Why do you think that behaviour is incorrect?
Email from outside is anonymous, therefore that permission needs to be granted to allow external senders to send email to your server.

The default connector is designed for external inbound traffic to be sent to your server.

We are trying to create Hybrid Setup between Exchange 2003 and Linux based email server
For this we have installed 3 Exchange Servers and one Linux Server
Expected Mail flow from Exchange (Exch01 and Exch3) to Linux Server
    - From Exchange to 192.168.100.179 (Exch2 - MTA) to 192.168.50.157 (CONNECTORS ARE CREATED ACCORDINGLY)
    But the flow is
    - From Exchange to 192.168.100.179 (Exch2 - MTA) to 192.168.2.1 then to 192.168.50.157

    Setup as follows

    Domain name: exchtest.com

    192.168.100.115 Primary AD Exchange (Hostname : Exch01)
    192.168.100.109 Secondary AD Exchange (Hostname : Exch3)
192.168.100.179 Third AD Exchange (Hostname : Exch2) as Routing Server (MTA / HUB)

    192.168.50.157 Hybrid Linux Server
192.168.2.1 as Incoming and Outgoing Server

    Users :

    user1@exchtest.com on 192.168.100.115
    user2@exchtest.com on 192.168.100.109

    user3@exchtest.com on 192.168.50.157

    Mail flow:

    - Exchange to Exchange, Exchange to outside world and from Outside world works fine
    - Incoming mails from outside world to 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.100.179 to respective Exchange Server
    - Outgoing mails from Exchange to 192.168.100.179 (MTA) to 192.168.2.1 then to outside world

    Routs
    Routing Groups

    Created 3 routing groups
    Exch01 to Exch3 via Exch2
    Exch3 to Exch01 via Exch2
    Outside world to 192.168.2.1
    SMTP Connector
    Servers - Exch01 - Protocols - SMTP - Default SMTP Virtual Server

Added IP [192.168.50.157] in Forward all mail with unresolved recipients to host under Messages Tab

(Y.Y.Y.Y) if the address space is (*) etc.

Now I want to install a  SMTP gateway server and forward all the mail to it ,and configure the gateway to pass the messages outside ,so how I can deal with this ,how I configure the Gateway to deal with multiple connector .how I must configure the SMTP virtual server ,or I need multiple SMTP virtual server

    Thanks you

I think the easiest way would be to create single SMTP connector with Forward all mail through this connector to the following smart hosts: [your SMTP Gateway] with address space *
All other connectors are not required anymore.

I have a virtual server using a fixed external ip and operating as a dedicated Exchange Server 2013 with Windows Server 2012 Standard. I have migrated accounts over from another VM running Exchange 2007. All recipients, accepted domains, policies etc appear
to have been imported but I am facing some challenges configuring Exchange 2013 to relay external mail. Internal mail relays just fine and mail is being received from both internal and external sources.

I have two Send Connectors set up.
The first was created during Exchange Setup:
    General
    Name: “To Internet”
    Connector Status: Enable
    Comment: Null
    Protocol Logging level: None
    Maximum Message Size: 50MB

FQDN: My 2013 servers external domain name
The second I created to try and overcome the problem by using a Smart Host albeit my host restrict the volume of mail allowed and so this would be inadequate in the long term but in any event a test mail was rejected by their server:
    General
    Name: “Send Internet Mail”
    Connector Status: Enable
    Comment: Null
    Protocol Logging level: None
    Maximum Message Size: 10MB

    Type: SMTP
    Domain:*
    Cost:1
    Scoped send connector: Unchecked
    Source server: My 2013 Server
    FQDN:NULL
Initially I was getting unable to relay messages but with the various tweaks and changes I've made I have overcome this and now I get delivery delayed messages so it seems the mail is queuing but not getting sent.

I finally got to the truth of this matter. My host blocks port 25 outgoing and restricts the volume of mail through their smart host to 100 messages per day. So, I now know why I was having such intermittent problems. I am angry with them because:

The world at large listens on port 25 for incoming mail.My server hosted with them cannot disseminate email because they block port 25.
At no time during the sales process did they mention that they block port 25.MyVM set up as a dedicated Exchange Server cannot function.Their relay is very restrictive. They suggest I route to another external facility to process my mail. They gave misleading information resulted in several days lost productivity when they denied that they blocked port 25 only to later clarify that they do indeed block it outbound.
Anyway now that I understand the challenge I wonder if anyone has a solution to route email through an external smart host in the UKat a low cost? We probably sent up to 100,000 emails per month.Brian Watson

We are a small business migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. In our original setup the Exchange 2003 server has an SMTP virtual server masquerading the external mail name of the company. Instead of answering SMTP traffic with 'server2003.inside_network.com'
    it answers as 'mail.internet.com'.
One the new Exchange 2010 server I tried to change the Default SERVER connector from 'server2010.inside_network.com' to 'mail.internet.com' it will not let me. It gives me an error stating that the value must be the FQDN of the server, the NetBIOS name,
    or $null.
I tried altering the Default Server connector to accept only connections for the company networks and create a new connector for the Internet that accepts all SMTP traffic however our internal users started getting Relaying Denied errors soon after I made
the change. Note that I have not altered our SMTP firewall from sending SMTP traffic via the Exchange 2003 server. It would seem that the install of Exchange 2010 has simply taken over that function and though the 2003 server is receiving the SMTP data it
forwards it to the 2010 server for processing.
How do I create a connector that will answer external SMTP traffic with the proper name and ensure that all mail works without errors?

    DB:3.20:Receive Connector Configuration fx

For closure to this what I ended up having to do was create new connectors, give them anonymous permissions, and add all IP ranges that are not on private networks. I also removed the all networks access from the default connector and added the subnets we
    use within our company.
    Thanks for the help. :)

CGP has a great userbase.  They can probably answer any questions you have about the software.

Did you roll out the Exchange server?  I'm just starting to investigate a shared address space with Exchange 2007 and a CGP box.  So far it looks a lot more complicated than I want to deal with.

When I send internet mail via the Exchange 2007 Send Connector (and then through an IIS 6.0 SMTP Server), the Content-Type header breaks and the mail comes through as plain text garbage (plain text, you see all the HTML tags and the encoded to text image file)

Here is an example of the header,  note that there is no semi-colon at the end of the line to denote there is a second line of the header (or rather there must be a end of line/carriage return that put it on the second line):
    Content-Type: multipart/related;boundary=_004_41A8A3C1853EC44CB7C3A4D498511F0501287723xma

When I send directly to the internet (and not through the IIS 6.0 SMTP Smarthost), the mail comes through OK (note how there is a semi-colon here)

-This problem only affects messages with embedded images; other mail (attachments, rich text, etc.) are fine -This problem does not occur if I send mail via the Exchange 2003 SMTP Connector (and through the same IIS 6.0 SMTP Smarthost)-This problem does not occur if I send mail directly through the Exchange 2007 Send Connector
So, this seems to be an interaction problem with the E12 Send Connector and IIS 6.0 (Since E2k3+IIS 6.0 is OK and E2k7 alone is OK)

DB:3.11:E12 Send Connector And Iis 6.0/Smtp Corrupt Header For Mail With Emedded Images kc

As far as i know there is no such known issues. Check by directing the mails from the Exchange 2007 server directly to another server's mailbox and see if the content comes through as garbage, if it does, then there could be some AV scanner messaing with the messages. If it does not, put a EML file in the pickup folder of the IIS server and see if it breaks. Hi All,
I have recently set up a new Exchange 2010 server (migrating from Exchange 2003) andobserving issues with mail flow. The mail flow from 2010 server to 2003 server is happening without an issue. But for the mails from 2003 server to 2010 servers are
    having intermittent issues.
As per the recommendations, a new connector has been created to deliver mail from 2003 server to 2010 server and vice versa. Sometimes it has been observed that the queue size of the 2003 server is increasing and messages are stucked up in Messages with
unreachable destination. Also the Routing group connector vanishes from the queue viewer. Once I restart the SMTP virtual server, the mail gets delivered immediately and the RGC appears in the queue. Also no smart host has been configured in the SMTP Virtual
    Server in Exchange 2003.

The issue got resolved post disabling the Routing Engine services on the Exchange 2003 backend Server.

DB:3.07:Exchange 2003 Secured Smtp Server Usage Attempt cp

Using ES 2003. For the most part is functioning correctly. I use an external spam filtering host (GFI), and my firewall is set to receive incoming traffic on port 25 only from GFI's IP addresses and forward that traffic to my internal mail server.
Also my Default SMTP Connector is configured to use the GFI server as a Smarthost. This works perfectly. But this does block access from other clients that attempt to communicate with my server over port 25 (does not affect Outlook Anywhere or
RPC access...this is fine also). So for other clients (Mac Mail for example), I have attempted to set up a second SMTP Virtual Server as a secured server (port 465, incoming), and have set the Outgoing port in the Delivery Options to port 25. So
in theory, I should be able to connect from a client to my mail server over port 465, and mail that is sent should go out over port 25). And both my Default SMTP Virtual Server and my Secured SMTP Virtual Server use the single Default SMTP Connector. For mail
sent to my internal domain users this works fine. For mail sent to external recipients, the outgoing messages remain stuck in my Secured SMTP Server Queue. I have not found any way to resolve this. Hoping someone can shed some light on this issue,
and provide me with some direction.
    Appreciate in advance.

    Pessoal,

Recentemente alterei minha configuração no envio de e-mails para a internet, configurei dois gateways smtp com custos diferentes, mas após esse procedimento o envio de e-mails ficou muito lento.
Executei o Microsoft Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant e ele alertou o seguinte problema:
SMTP connector 'Saida Internet via Gateway 1' is configured to forward messages addressed to domain '*' to smart host gateway1.meudominio.com.br' but the 'RouteActionString' property in the metabase for SMTP instance 'Default SMTP Virtual Server' on server EXCHANGE indicates a different smart host. This SMTP connector may not be able to route messages correctly. Current 'RouteActionString' value: gateway2.meudominio.com.br (Expected value: gateway1.meudominio.com.br).

Not sure why it isn't working then, you can try putting in your server ip:25 in the VC field instead of just the IP. You could also try restarting the VC Server service.

Currently, wheneven I sent an email addressed to ABC.com, the email is routed from ExchServer1 to ExchServer2 and then

(Even if transport agent is not installed on ExchServer2 and ExchServer2 is not listed as the source server for the connector, the email addressed to ABC.com is still routed to ExchServer2 )
    Thanks.

DB:3.03:Exchange 2003 Multiple Smtp Virtual Servers Routing cf

    Hi,
I've searched the forums and cant fin the answer I need. Im hoping someone can help. We currently have a back end only Exhange 2003 Server setup. We have a single SMTP Virtual Server listening on port 25. All internal and external
mail routes via this SMTP VS (Default SMTP Virtual Server).
We have a requirement to set up an additional SMTP VS to send emails into an SAP system via port 25000. I have setup a second SMTP VS to listen on port 25000. I have then setup an SMTP connector with the new VS as the bridgehead.
The problem I have is that The Exchange store driver picks the first VS to start up and only registers that virtual server to monitor the store's SendQ (the queue the store uses to put messages that are waiting to be processed
by SMTP Transport ). Since VSIs can start asynchronously, there are no guarantees which VSI this will be.
If I start the original VS first then all internet emails route accordingly. However the internal emails to go to SAP cannot get delivered.

If I start the second VS first then the SAP emails route into the correct system but internet bound emails are held.
Can anyone help me to understand what I need to do pass the relevant emails from either VS to the correct VS?

    - E2K3 can send emails to accounts in E2K10 (and vice-versa)
    - E2K10 mailboxes can send to the Internet (and vice-versa),
    - Inbound SMTP relays through E2K10 receive connector and across the RGC to the E2K3 mailboxes
    - No other SMTP connectors with a namespace of * exist in the E2K3 environment
    - Suppress link-state updates performed on all E2K3 servers
    - A smarthost is not specified on the Default SMTP Virtual Server on the E2K3 bridgehead on theRGC
I am sending directly from the HT servers to a Smarthost, namespace is *,1. When I also specify a test domain (example.com, 1) in the Send connector on E2K10, the E2K3 environment does send across the RGC and out successfully. In my troubleshooting

    Hi,

To test sending out through 2010, at the second site I created a send connector with a cost of 90 and the Source Server is the second site's Hub server.

It now appears the first site's internet SMTP routing is preferring to jump to our other site and use this cost 90 connector, rather than continue using the cost 2 connector on the same site's 2003 Exchange server.
Is this expected behavoir? This new conenctor is the first Send connector that wasn't imported rom 2003.

    Thanks!

Ok I am having a debate with another engineer over exchange 2003 smtp connectors. I am stating to use an smtp connector under the routing group and he states that we should use the smtp virtual server under protocols under the administrative groups. which is better to use? The network is a single exchange server using a smtp gateway(barracuda, ironport etc)

    DB:3.01:Exchange 2003 Connector Question 1a

Hi,you need to use SMTP connector when you want to set delivery restrictions in mail flow.If your server that are running Exchange 2003 reach the Internet and successfully perform Domain Name System (DNS) lookups for Internet addresses then you can configure SMTP virtual server for mail flow.Reasons to create an SMTP connector ::

You are connecting to a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 computer in another routing group (site), and want to use SMTP.
You want to configure either server-side or client-side ETRN/TURN.
You want either to send or not to send ETRN/TURN.
You want to request ETRN/TURN when sending messages.
You want to request ETRN/TURN from different servers.
You want to configure outbound security, and to do it one time and affect many outbound servers.
You want to permit high, normal, or low message priorities for a domain.
You want to permit system or non-system messages.
You want to schedule the SMTP connector.
You want to use different delivery times for oversize messages.
You want to queue mail for remote triggered delivery.
You want to send HELO instead of EHLO.
You want to specify a specific address space.
You want to set delivery restrictions.

A few errors I'm receiving after adding one CAS and one multirole HT/MBX physical server in a single 2003 server environment for which I'm having problems finding the exact resolution. Their E2003 environment
(ahp-exch01.domain.local)is all on one physcial host behind a firewall.Their public URL is webmail.domain.com.

    1. BPA's only critical issue:
The computer account for Exchange server ahp-exch01.domain.local does not appear to contain the fully-qualified domain name of Exchange SMTP virtual server 'Default SMTP Virtual Server'. This may cause Kerberos authentication to fail when sending messages between
servers. The tool expected to find 'SMTPSVC/Webmail.domain.com' in the 'servicePrincipalName'.

The article says to use this syntax: setspn.exe -a SMTPSVC/mail.yourdomain.com YOURSERVERNAME
I want to confirm that the first field is the public URL (webmail.domain.com) and the second field is what? The E2010 CAS server name? The E2003 server name? The internal webmail alias (webmail.domain.local)? Something else?
    2. After installing E2010, it imported two SMTP address spaces from E2003 which are configured for fax routing on the old E2003 server. The E2003 server has a fax application installed on the same server, as well as a Brooktrout TR1034 board. The fax software
routes the faxes via SMTP to the localhost IP. They are using DNS instead of a smarthost for SMTP routing. The two error messages are:
    ---
Non-SMTP address space 'SMS:*;1' was detected on the DNS SMTP connector 'FaxMaker SMTP Connector' in routing tables with timestamp 2/8/2012 7:38:20 PM. The address space is ignored on the connector because a non-delivery report (NDR) will be sent for the
message or because the message will go to another connector. Exchange Server 2007 or Exchange 2010 tasks block this configuration. However, the connector may have been set up by Exchange Server 2003.

DB:2.98:Mail Routing Not Working In Ex2003-Ex2010 Environment sk

    Hi,
We are transitioning from Ex2003 to Ex2010.
    Ex2003 is on cluster.
Ex2003 uses smarthost for SMTP traffic to/from the Internet
Ex2010 will continue to use the same smarthost to/from the Internet
So far we have done the following:
    - Installed Exchange 2010 CAS andHUB (onfirst server)
    - Installed Exchange 2010 Mailbox (on second servere)
    - CreatedSend connector from EX2010HUB to the Smarthost
    - Deleted SMTP connector from EX2003 to the Smarthost
    - Created bidirectional RGC between EX2003 and EX2010
    - Deleted Smarthost entry on the EX2003 Default SMTP Virtual Server
    Now we have the situation:
    - Ex2003 mailbox users cannot send/receive mail to/from the Internet
    - Ex2003 mailbox users can send/receive mail to/from Ex2010 mailbox users
    - Ex2010 mailbox users can send/receive email to/from the Internet and can send/receive to/from Ex2003 mailbox users.

In order to enable EX2003 mailbox users to send/receive mail to/from Internet we have returned Smarthost entry on the EX2003 Default SMTP Virtual Server.
We have done it because, only a few test accounts are currently using EX2010 and all 'real' users are still on EX2003.
    Now we have the situation:
EX2003 mailbox users can send /receive to/from the Internet
EX2010 mailbox users can send /receive to/from the Internet
EX2010 mailbox users can send mail to EX2003 users
But, EX2003 users cannot send mail to EX2010 users !?

    How can we solve this?
    Thanks in advance, Les

    Hi,

During the installation of the first Exchange 2010 Hub Transport server in an existing Exchange organization, you must specify an Exchange
2003 bridgehead server to which to establish the first routing group connector. We recommend that you select a bridgehead server located in a hub routing group or in a routing group that has many mailboxes.

I already created a send connector on Exchange 2010 and it is sending email. I still have mailboxes on 2003 server but I am in the final stages. Do I now remove the smtp connector on 2003 andstop the default smtp virtual server? I'm assuming from

    Good morning at all.

I'm working about upgrade Platform from SMTP server 2003 r2 64(with TLS auth) to 2008 R2 64, and i have some problem with certificate implementation.

In 2008 server, in SMTP virtual primary server, the certificate that i create with request and CA work and the form show me the presence of certificate, but when i create another virtual server, the second and other, not recognize the certificate
if also i generated another it. (tls is not available without a certificate)

I tried it also in Windows server 2012 with same identical issue (with 2003 server its all ok)

DB:2.95:Connection To Esx With Gsx Remote Console, Hba Question df

    Hello,

Actually I have two questions for vmware esx specialists.

The first one is about the ability of GSX remote console to connect to an ESX server:

How can I allow root user to have full access to virtual hardware of a virtual machine when this machine has been created by a virtual center client ?

By this question I mean that root can connect with GSX remote console to ESX server but he is not allowed to manage the virtual machines ressources as a virtual center client can do.

My second question is about HBA connector :

Is ESX already setup (at installation time) to failover between two physical HBA's connector ?

I know that ESX can use preffered path to connect a LUN on a SAN through the HBA's connector but what does it happen when a physical HBA is broken ?

    Thanks

DB:2.95:Connection To Esx With Gsx Remote Console, Hba Question df

And to your first question: It is possible to manage your vm's by the GSX console (I use it all the time in my test environment or environments without VC) but you will never be able to change the hardware (exception is connecting floppy and cdrom) , because GSX and ESX are not compatible in this way.

    DB:2.94:Adding A Smtp Connector p1

    Hi,
Currently we have an Exchange 2003 server and all mail going outbound flows through a single SMTP connector to a smarthost (which is actually another Exchange server).
We are adding a DLP device that we want to place between the 2 servers and I'm looking into way to do this.
A far as I can tell making the change is as simply as adding a second SMTP connector, assigning it the single SMTP virtual server we have, and then using the delivery restriction tab to control access the connector (at first we'll only want a couple of test
users to use the connector, eventually all mail will flow through the device), but we want to leave the old SMTP connector behind in the event the DLP device fails and we need to bypass it.
    Does this make sense?

    Hallo,

    - Internet-Mail: aktivieren

    Versenden verlangt.
    Im Server-Manager unter: Servers - SMTP - Default SMTP Virtual Server -Eigenschaften - ausgehende Sicherheit: hier Username PW;
    - dann auf der Registerkarte Ausgehende Verbindungen den Port ndern auf 587.

Fehlen mir noch irgendwelche anderen Einstellungen?

Die Mails gehen nicht raus (teste das sofort am entsprechenden GMX-Postfach an das ich schicke).

Me he leido ese manual, yo no tengo ISA Server, (ahi van mis preguntas)

DB:2.92:Cannot Consistently Delivery Mail Between Exchange 2003 And Exchange 2010 And The Internet dd

We've begun a migration from Exchange Server 2003 to Exchange Server 2010. I will call the servers 03 and 10 where 10 represents our Hub Transport.
During the original successful install of 10, a Routing Group Connector was created between 03 and 10 and uses the Default SMTP Virtual Server. On the 03 server, the Default SMTP Virtual Server has a smart host configured so that Internet mail will
route through a spam/virus filtering server going outbound.
I read where I shouldn't have a smart host configured on the Default SMTP Virtual Server on the 03 box. However, when I remove the smart host, Internet mail to/from 03 (where all of the mailboxes are currently) won't go outbound and inconsistently
    comes inbound.
A few minutes ago we re-configured the 10 server to use our outbound smart host via a Send Connector set for Internet (rather than Custom, Internal or Partner). Outbound to the Internet and to a 03 user from a 10 user worked perfectly. So we
re-configured the Default SMTP Virtual Server on 03 to go through the 10 server via the FDQN and Smart Host attributes on the Delivery Advanced page. Nothing would go outbound from 03 so we put the Default SMTP Virtual Server back to go directly to the
    smart host.
We've tried to configure a SMTP Connector using a secondary IP address on the 03 server and made a connector under the Routing Groups to use that new SMTP Connector to route mail from 03 to 10. We get inconsistent results with this configuration.

Surely, the setup and prep for migration to 10 from 03 can't be this difficult. What simple thing(s) are we missing?

DB:2.92:Cannot Consistently Delivery Mail Between Exchange 2003 And Exchange 2010 And The Internet dd

First having Smart Host in Default SMTP Server is Not Recommended.

    Now -
Your Exchange 2010 has a Send Connector via Smart Host
    Good
Your Exchange 2010 has a Receive Connector via Smart Host
    Good
    Mail Flow is fine.

    Now Exchange 2003
Will look for SMTP Connector to Send Emails
    Remove it
So that it will useRouting GroupConnectors

Take off theSmart host from Default SMTP virtual Server then do an IIS reset

Now your Mail flow E2k3 to RGC and via E2k10 (send/receive)

My current envirnoment is a single Exchange site with a single mailbox server and another bridgehead server.  They are both running Exchange 2003.  All our outgoing emails are routed to an external smart host via the bridgehead server.  All our incoming emails are received from the external smart host by another server running Symantec Mail Security for SMTP (version 5.0).

The required TLS connection is from my bridgehead server to the partner's receiving server, and from the partner's sending server to my Symantec SMTP server.  TLS is not required for communication within my internal network.  I will install TLS on the Symantec SMTP server and also enable the TLS option on the external smart host.

So far, I know I need to create a new SMTP Connector on the bridgehead server for the partner's domain and checked TLS encryption in the Outbound Security.  Do I need a certificate on my bridgehead server for only outbound emails going to my external smart host?  If yes, do I install this certificate on the bridgehead server's IIS service, the Default SMTP Virtual Server, or another location?

Since all incoming emails go to the Symantec SMTP server (which I will install TLS), is another SMTP virtual server needed on the bridgehead server?  From the reading I have done, it seems like to SMTP virtual server is for incoming and intersite traffic.

    DB:2.91:Problems With Tls And Exchange 2003 7s

    Troubleshooting:
    1.       Please verify your configuration by using this article, and uncheck that “Require Secure Channel” option in the TLS virtual server [VS], then restart that TLS VS, SMTP and Routing Engine service, then test the mail flow
    2.       If the remote domain does not support TLS encryption, all messages are returned and this NDR will be generated [KB 329061], you must confirm whether that domain supports TLS encryption or not
Notes: Please try to telnet that remote domain MX record from exchange server, see if it shows the STARTTLS command verb
    a.       Start-Run-cmd
    b.      “Telnet RemoteSMTPServerIP 25”
    c.       “Ehlo”
    d.      Check if “250-STARTTLS” shows in the output
    e.      Please try to run “STARTTLS”, see if the output is right. If the output likes “Unrecognized command”, there must be something in between which is blocking TLS which most probably could be the firewall
    3.       If we get “250-STARTTLS” back and run the command successfully, but the issue still persists, please stop the default VS and keep TLS VS running, then send test mail to that remote domain. Because default VS is the owner of the send queue as it was created first, therefore, we keep the TLS started in order to send mail and initialize the send queue. If the issue has gone, we can start default VS again
    4.       If the issue still persists, please enable the SMTP logging on the TLS VS, and check the “Internet Header” of NDR in order to know which server was initiated the NDR, so we can enable the diagnostic logging on that server. Then reproduce the issue, check the logging
    a.       Launch ESM, right-click the server that initiated the NDR, select “Properties”
    b.      In the “Diagnostics Logging” tab, select “MSExchangeTransport” in the left-pane, turn on “Connection Manager” and “SMTP Protocol” to “Maximum” in the right-pane

I can Telnet to port 25 and try to send an SMTP based email to an internal email address.
I get a message queued for delivery (250) message.  (I used a utility, BMail, as well w/ same results)
On the Exchange server in the SMTP logs, I can see the EHLO and associated messages of that email
But I can not see what happens to that message once it is received by the SMTP connector.
It does not show up in other Exchange server logs, does not show up in the tracking utility, does not show up in the queue monitor, and is never delivered to the recipient.
The same behavior happens w/ an external email address as well.
Authentication is not required, my IP address is configured as one to allow relay through the SMTP virtual server.  The server was recently gracefully restarted but that has happened before.

How can I determine what happens to the message after it is received by the Virtual SMTP connector?

The SMTP virtual server had its sender filter enabled.  I had these sender filters as part of a whitelist for IMF where messages were archived and moved into pickup.  For some reason, this filter was now blocking the message before it was archived.  Not sure why, but once I removed the sender filter - my core issue was resolved.

DB:2.89:Exchange 2007 To Exchange 2007 Hub Transport Issue Cross Child Domains And Cross Different Ad Sites 39

We have a Forest with 5 child Domains. 2 of which have Exchange 2007 servers installed in them. The first Domain to install Exchange 2007 is fine and all users are running on these Servers, the issue began when the second child Domain installed
a CAS/HUB role. Exchange installed fine, problem is that they just will not communicate with one another, the main error is 4.7.0 Temporary authentication failure.
The first Exchange 2007 Servers are running on Windows 2008, the other domain is running on Windows 2003 SP2 x64
So, these Servers communicate via a VPN, so they're running through some firewalls. We've allow the two HT servers to talk on ALL ports. We've disabled ESMTP fixup also.
Via a telnet command we are able to send an email fine, i.e. can telnet correctly and initiate SMTP commands via a cmd window, you can even send an email, but then it just sits in the failed queue.
This is what i'm seeing in the Receive Logs.

The SPNs are fine, the Default Receive Connectors has Anonymous users, Exchange users, Exchange Servers and Legacy Exchange Servers on the Permissions Groups tab.
The Authentication Tab has Transport Layer Security (TLS), Basic Authentication, Off Basic authentication only after start TLS, Exchange Server Authentication, Intergrated Windows authentication enabled.
What i want to know is the following.
    1. In Windows 2003 the NETWORK SERVICE needs READ permissions on the Crypto\MachineKeys - does Windows 2008 need the same permissions? If it doesn't have this, will Exchange fail to authenticate?
    2. Does the Exchange Servers from both ends need to communicate with Global Catalog's outside of their own site on 389, 88, 135 etc??
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

This problem has now been resolved. Kerberos traffic from the Remote Exchange Server was being blocked at the remote gateway, once i see this traffic coming through our firewall now it appears the machine's can authenticate with one another as i'm
seeing their logon/logoff attempts in our Security log now.
Thanks for all your help regarding this.

    Good day.

    Problem such:

It is necessary to adjust System Center Service Manager. Setting has transited successfully, have passed to adjustments. The client doesn't want that was added additional SMTP-server on IIS as is described here http://systemscenter.ru/scsm_help.ru/html/c892a667-8569-49a8-bf27-30d5d615063d.htm
    .
The client asks to adjust on Exchange Server 2010 connector without adding of the virtual mail domain in area of serviced domains. Asks to adjust the connector on already existing physical domain of mail.
Prompt please, whether who tried a thread to make it?
Whether such adjustment will affect mail flow in the organization?

DB:2.89:Smtp-Server And Exchange The Connector For System Center Service Manager zm

    Hey
If you are using the Exchange Connector, you dont have to install SMTP/IIS or use an additional domain. Just install/configure the Exchange connector and create a Mailbox for the SCSM Workflow Account. If a mail is sent to that mailbox, the exchange connector
will pick it up and creates an incident.

    O usuário chamado User1 possui 2MB

    Explanando :

    Global : os usuários poderam enviar e receber e-mails com até 5 MB;

Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 552 552 #5.3.4 message size exceeds limit (state 18). Esta mensagem aparece em resposta a um email que envio através de uma conta gmail. Ao tentar anexar um arquivo com 10mb no email do cliente exchange aparece a mensagem dizendo que exedeu o tamanho limite do arquivo. Como proceder? Hi Jeevan,

You can create two SMTP connectors to allow only two users to use one connector for mail to specific domain and other users use another connector to external message.

We have Symantec Mail Security (latest version) running on this server that expired yesterday.
I have since renewed it today but this morning I noticed that the smtp que has numerous que's of junk email.   I have tried to flush the que by stopping and restarting the smtp virtual server but they seem to re-appear.  I have followed microsoft's KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821901 but it doesn't seem to work.

Is there another way that I can flush out the bad que's in the smtp virtual server?  I do have an smtp connector setup.
Do I need to stop and restart the SMTP service in windows?

Yes that is 1 way to do it.  After doing some research since i've posted this problem, i have found that you can stop the smtp virtual server service, go into the windows explorer and browse to Exchsrvr\Mailroot\vsi 1\Queue and i found where all of the mail was sitting.  i thought it would be in the badmail folder but nothing was in there.  So I removed all items from the queue folder, restarted the smtp virtual service and everything was ok

We have moved all our mailboxes from Exchange 2003 (single server active passive cluster) to Exchange 2007 (one server with CAS HUB and mailbox roles). We are preparing to decommission the Exchange 2003 server but are concerned about routing of inbound e-mail from the Internet. After changing our MX record so our Edge server has a higher priority we are finding that all inbound mail from the Edge server is going to the 2003 server before being delivered to the recipients on the 2007 server.
As an experiment I turned off the 2003 virtual SMTP server. Inbound mail accumulated in the queue on our Edge server until I turned it back on. I'm fearful of deleting the routing group connector between the 2003 and 2007 server.
This isn't normal behavior with the Routing group connector in place, is it?

DB:2.87:Inbound From Internet Goes To Exchange 2003 Server First 8s

Ok, but it sounds as if the 2007 Edge server doesntknow about the 2007 HT. YOu may want to recheck the config.A call was opened with PSS. The issue was fixed by adding the IP address of the HT server as a Smart Host on the Send Connector on the Edge server. The tech claims that the smart host entry should have been created as a result of the subscription process. Is that your understanding?Yes, the Edge subscription should have take care of that unless you chose to set things manually. The article linked also states:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997438.aspxThe -- placeholder in the address space for the inbound Send connector represents the authoritative and internal relay accepted domains for the Exchange organization and is the literal character displayed. Any messages that the Edge Transport server receives for authoritative and internal relay accepted domains are routed to this Send connector and relayed to the smart hosts. The -- placeholder in the list of smart hosts represents all the Hub Transport servers that are located in the subscribed ActiveDirectory site and is the literal character displayed. Hub Transport servers that are added to an ActiveDirectory site after an Edge Subscription has been established don't participate in the EdgeSync synchronization process. However, they are automatically added to the list of smart hosts for the inbound Send connector. If more than one Hub Transport server is located in the subscribed ActiveDirectory site, inbound connections will be load balanced across the smart hosts. You can't modify the address space or list of smart hosts for the automatically created inbound Send connector. However, you can set the value of theCreateInboundSendConnector parameter to $false when creating an Edge Subscription, and manually configure a Send connector from the Edge Transport server to the Exchange organization.

I assume you have a smarthost defined for their domain in the SMTP connector that represents the first server? Simply add the the other company's 2nd exchange server to that existing SMTP connector as another smart host.
If one smarthost is not availible, Exchange will use the other.

    Hi,
You should be able to do something like that in Exchange Online also. Take a look at this TechNet article about mail flow in Exchange Onlinehttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj723138(v=exchg.150).aspx
You could also use Mail Forwarding for a specific Mailbox, and point it to a smtp address that's routed to your on-prem SMTP server.

    Hi,

And another forest exchange 2007 forest that has windows 2003 root domain controller xyz.com that has two child domain a.xyz.com and b.xyz.com and two grand child domain controller p.a.xyz.com and q.b.xyz.com. Exchange 2007 is installed with root domain controller xyz.com.

All users are migrated from forest exchange 2003 abc.com to grand child domain controller p.a.xyz.com both forest shared same SMTP recipient  @test.com  my mail flow is working fine for internal as well as external. In exchange 2007 all communication is going from hub transport server. And Hub is not direct communicated with internet. All mail is going to Exchange 2003 via SMTP connector that i have configured between exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007.and exchange 2003 forward the mail to IRON port and IRON port communicate from internet.

Now I want to configure the failover for hub transport server. I know the procedure how to configure the failover but my problem is that I have configured the SMTP connector between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 HUB Transport Server with address @test.com but how to configure the second connector between Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 failover hub transport Server because I have already shared one address space with @test.com and we know that we can not configure the second connector with same recipient @test.com with first connector or should I remove the connector and create a cluster failover IP that i configured  during the failover of hub transport server.

    Hello!!!

I have an Exchange 2003 mailing system with one Internet - Outbound SMTP connector. Now we have a new Exchange server in same organization but in different location. Can I create a new Internet - Outbound SMTP connector and rout the mails from the new Exch server to another smarthost.

    DB:2.85:Outbound Smtp Connector sa

Yes you can, but you need to look at address space and cost on each copnnector.
Which connector Exchange select to use is determined by address space, if there is same address space on multiple connectors Exchange will use the one with lowest cost.
You probably have an address space of '*' on the current SMTP connector, so if you create a new SMTP connector with address space of '*' and the same cost, users on server A will use the connector with source server A and users on server B will use the connector with source server B.

    Hi!

I have situation here that makes me wonder why i have almost 30 minutes delayed in mail internet delivery. Heres the scenario:

To Deliver * (External Domain) i use smtp connector and use the Default SMTP Virtual Server to deliver the mails using the external dns (maintained internally). I have internal and external dns that will query in resolving mail delivery issues. I dont have smtp gateways or antispam/firewalls for exchange due to limited budget, so far theres no spam issues that i encountered in my exch server.

My Question is there any other work around to make my email delivery fast? Like for example, i'll query directly to my ISP DNS server using my internal dns instead he will query to external dns then to ISP?

Hope you have ideas on this.

I know the issue is caused by smarthost being configured on 2003,
However Im not sure how to remove it as we use the smarthost for external mail delivery.
Can someone tell me how to swap the smarthost connector to allow my public folders to replicate?

In 2003, do you have a smarthost configured on the Default SMTP Virtual Server? If so, this is your problem. It prevents messages from being routed across the Routing Group Connector between 2003 and 2010. You will need to remove the
smarthost from that and then configure an SMTP connector for outbound email.

    Hi,
    Here is my current situation:

All pre-requirements have been met for a coexistence between 2003/2010. ERC setup by are in place (setup during install).External inbound/outbound mail from 2003 server (default smtp virtual server) works fineInternal inbound/outbound mail to and from 2003 2010 works fine.External inbound mail to 2010 (via 2003) works fine.External outbound mail from 2010 does not work, goes directly to the unreachable domain - Last Error: A matching connector cannot be found to route the external recipient.
We need our smtp inbound/outbound to strictly stay on 2003 server. I tried creating a send connector on 2010 for relay but that creates a loop (so removed it).
From what I've read this should work without additional configuration?
So far I have read that a smtp connector should be created on the 2003 server (haven't tried that yet), or the Default SMTP Virtual Server should have IP_Address: under the general tab not set to All Unassigned (haven't tried that either). I want to
hold off trying these solutions to see if there is something more definitely tried and tested out there.
It just seems that anything outside of our internal domain does not hit the group routing connector.
I'd be seriously grateful with some help on this issue!

You need to change the SMTP port number on Send/Receive connector on Hub Transport Server.

    Receive Connector:
Open Exchange Management Console - Hub Transport - RECEIVECONNECTORNAME - Properties - Network - Local IP Addresses - Edit Receive Connector Binding
    - Give your port number

DB:2.81:Exchange 2010 Receive Connector: Relay Control In Stead Of Connection Control x1

We are in a migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.
Almost everything is in place except the receive connector part:
Current situation: In our 2003 environment we have a smtp server which all our devices can connect to.
With the relay restrictions we allow some ip's to relay.
This means 1 dns name and easy relay restriction.
In 2010 however the receive connector acts as connection control:
Only clients that are in the list can connect.
if you enable annonymous relay that means every device can send e-mails to outside addresses.
Can the 2003 functionality be configured in 2010 with only one receive connector?
A second receive connector seems to be the solution, both connectors then have a separate dns entry.
But in our environment that means a few hundred devices need to be reconfigured.

DB:2.81:Exchange 2010 Receive Connector: Relay Control In Stead Of Connection Control x1

Microsoft could document it better, but Exchange 2007/2010 Hub Transport is written so that any Authenticated User has ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Recipient permission.

So basically that means any user who logs in using any method, typically members of Exchange Users which is everybody who has an Exchange Mailbox, can automatically relay email, whether on port 25, 465, 587, with or without TLS.

It is completely unnecessary to create a second IP address!

If you have devices like multi-function scanners that typically scan to PDF and deliver by email, they usually have an option to specify a logon user account in addition to other SMTP settings.

It is important to understand the difference between privileges to connect/submit and privileges to relay.

The Default SMTP connector allows Anonymous users to connect so that your Exchange server can receive incoming emails from the Internet, but because the Anonymous user is not authenticated, they cannot relay.

Implicitly it requires authentication to allow relaying.

You can use the Exchange wizard to create a Default SMTP connector on your Hub Transport role, and then go to http://mxtoolbox.com/diagnostic.aspx to test your server that it is not an open relay.

By default the new connector will not allow Anonymous connections - you need to turn it on.

But it will not relay Anonymously submitted emails.

and forwards it to both my gwia and whatever test system I\'m working

    with.

yes, its trivial to set that up with a copy of exim.

DB:2.80:Help With Smtp Smart Host Connector Problem 37

    Hi
I am currently running a SBS 2003 with exchange 2003 for my e-mail.
On exchange 2003, my smtp connector is setup to route email via my isp mail server so it isn't rejected as spam.
In order for this to work, one of the settings I currently have configured is under the smpt virtual server is masquerade domain.
(SMTP Virtual Server - Delivery - Advanced - Masquerade domain)
This allows me to trick the isps mails server into thinking I am send mail via my isp account and not from mydomain.com.
Since I have been testing SBS 2011 and exchange 2010, I have been unable to work out how to configure this setting and hence why I am posting here today.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
In exchange 2003 this was done through SMTP Virtual Server - Delivery - Advanced - Masquerade domain.
In exchange 2010 you need use the Set-TransportServer cmdlet with -ExternalDsnReportingAuthority
parameter to set the transport configuration
This parameter specifies what the server name should be in the internal DSN message. The function like masquerade in Exchange 2003.

DB:2.80:Smtp Unable To Receive Email In Exchange 2003 Sp2 c8

Hi All,I am able to receive email with my current setup.  MX server pointing to Host (a) record.  Can SMTP to port 25.  Netdiag shows that DNS is configured properly.  Also get proper response internally to nslookup setq=mx.  Virtual smtp connector set to * .

DB:2.80:Smtp Unable To Receive Email In Exchange 2003 Sp2 c8

You say I am able to receive email with my current setup  Do you mean unable? You also said you can SMTP to port 25.  What does this mean?  Are you using telnet to simulate an SMTP session?  if so can you post the text here for review?  does it say mail submitted to queue at the end of the conversation? What anti-spam/virus software is installed on the Exchange server? What version of Exchange are you running?

DB:2.79:Cannot Send Email To Exchange 2010 Server xa

I've currently using an Exchange 2003 server and have installed 2 Exchange 2010 servers in coexistance. One 2010server is for CAS one for Hub Transport. I can send email from both EX 2003 and 2010 servers. I can receive email on the EX 2003 server,
but cannot receive email on EX 2010 server. We did have a smart host configured on the EX 2003 server default smtp virtual but I setup an SMTP connector on the front end server and put the SMTP connector there. That did not fix the problem.

The error I'm getting when sending to the EX 2010 server is:
This message was rejected due to the current administrative policy by the destination server.
Please retry at a later time. If that fails, contact your system administrator.gwcols.com #4.3.2

The Receive Connectors do have a habit of not being configured correctly.
Therefore I would suggest that you remove them using remove-routinggroupconnector and then create new ones using new-routinggroupconnector.

On the Default Receive connector, enable Anonymous on the permissions tab, you shouldn't need to change anything else.

Finally ensure that if you have restrictions on the Receive Connectors or SMTP Virtual Server (For example to restrict email to come from a third party only) add the internal IP addresses of the Exchange servers.

    DB:2.79:Exchange 2000 To 2003 Migration Smtp Routing 9c

Setup:GFI (Default SMTP Virtual Server with smart host configured as Exchange 2000)Exchange 2000 (Default SMTP Virtual Server with smart host configured as GFI server)Exchange 2003 (no smart hosts configured yet) I'm in the middle of an Exchange 2000 to 2003 migration.  I have an obvious SMTP routing issue where Exchange 2000 mailboxes cannot talk to Exchange 2003.  But mailboxes on Exchange 2003 can talk to Exchange 2000.And I now know that configuring a Smart Host on the Default SMTP Virtual Server in Exchange 2000 is not correct, and that it should be configured by creating an SMTP connector and adding the smart host there.Question now is:  When I create the SMTP connector with the GFI smart host do I add both Exchange 2000 and 2003 as the bridgeheads or just one of the servers?

    DB:2.79:Exchange 2000 To 2003 Migration Smtp Routing 9c

Frank,Yes, both Exchange servers are in the same routing group.  I created an SMTP connector, added GFI as the smart host, added both Exchange 2000 and 2003 as a bridgehad and now I can send mail between 2000/2003/Internet.Apparently before I got here someone incorrectly added the GFI smart host under the Default SMTP Virtual Server but it was working.  I also contacted GFI and their documentation states to create an SMTP connector too.Well, mail routing is correctly configured....thanks Luke and Frank.

    DB:2.79:Exchange 2010 - Relay Settings c3

In Exchange 2003 I had a few internal subnets on the relay properties of the default smtp virtual server so they could be authorized to send email. On my 2010 server would I add these internal subnets to the defaultreceive connector on the network
tab? Use these local IP Addresses to receive mail Add...
or do I make a new receive connector for each subnet?
btw, why is there a client receive connector and a default connector? Thanks!

    DB:2.79:Exchange 2010 - Relay Settings c3

Yes, you must have to exclude IP of exchange servers as Brian said, then use same subnet for relay. Just exclude exchange IP from subnet and use same subnet.
