I am very interested in learning how many people there are out in the universe of AutoCAD users who are serious 3D people. I don't care whether it is mechanical or architectural or whatever.

What I would like to get a sense of is, what percentage of users always create their stuff in 3D, know how to render their models, create detail dwgs. from those models and in general do what you are not supposed to do - create serious 3D work in plain old AutoCAD.

    Thanks

I now view AutoCAD as pretty much a (bad) joke for 3D work

I agree that AutoCAD could use some major work in the 3d editing area (and
some other areas) but I have to disagree with it being a "bad joke". I have
yet to find anyone using Inventor that could out perform the speed of
AutoCAD 3d, even people in the same discipline. While they are fumbling
around with constraint "what if this what if that" and trying to follow IVs
rules, I'm sending prints to get approved for fabrication. Even massive
revisions can be handled pretty easily if you know what your doing. I use a
combo MDT/AutoCAD and can't ever see me getting as efficient in IV as I am
in 3d AutoCAD. I would argue my case more but I'm short on time.

DB:3.06:How Do I Make A Model In 3d World Darker As Another Models x3

Changing the relative position of the light will only have an
effect if you are using #point or #spot lights. These are
computationally more expensive than #ambient and #directional
lights, so it is better to avoid #point and #spot lights if
    possible.

You can adjust how the shader(s) on the model react to light,
by changing the colours associated with the .ambient, .diffuse,
.specular and .emissive properties af the shader.

    Hi,

I don't want to resort to 3DS max for this

To export it to 3DS-Max is only one option, to use the FBX-format gives you a lot of options as you can import FBX in a lot of different applications (e.g. to AutoCAD and create there a DWF then).

We don't provide support for non-Adobe software on these forums. I don't believe that MeshLab can do it, but there are many 3D editing packages on the market which can merge original files into the same scene. Once merged, they will show in the model tree using whatever names and hierarchy they have in the U3D file - you can't change the model tree from within Acrobat.

How do I start. I am good with Google sketchup but that is a mechanical 3d modeler. Am making the plans for a weaving loom in sketch up to eventually build them to sell and get a patent. I have not worked with organic shapes. And do not have the money to buy a program to see if I can do it. Downloaded 3d max demo but have not the slightest idea how to make even a simple object, like a heart.

Ironic thing is I work in a college and they teach Max but in the other campus so I can not take it. May be able to do it this summer, would have to get the time off without pay though.

So I need a tip on what easy program I can get to do a 3d heart to start and make a Sculpted map.

I will not attempt to do anything complicated.

Also anyone know if sl Sculpted map will work in Daz studio? Would be nice if I can bring in models. I am illustrating a couple of books in Daz and trying to do it without paying for models. So far I got all I need for free, but a stuffed alligator toy.

DB:2.83:How Can I Create A Scene And Move 3d Models In Insight With Labview? ap

Thanks for the advice!I'm actually finding the next problem. Although in my VRML file the objects are defined separately in a jerarchy tree, I can't move(rotate, translate) each object individually. I have noticed that when i define a new local system and asign it the points of the object i want move in the way you explain (right click, and then dragging the points to the new local axis), the movement of this object is dependent of the other local systems i have defined for other objects , specially if the slave nodes of the .cis file has a lower numeration than the object i want to move. The fact is, the movements assigned , for example to the nodes 1 to 100, will affect to the rest of the nodes if i also define for the rest of the nodes other movements. How can i solve this? I send you my .cis file, just in case my explanation is not enough clear. In this file you can see that movements assigned to nodes 1 to 4078, will also affect to nodes 4079 to 7168, and what i would like to do is define a movement for each obeject independently. Thanks again!

One other technique (similar to Curtis' replace technique) that I have used with success in the past to compare geometry, consists in creating a drawing with different views. Then export a DWF file of that drawing before and after you make the model change.

You can compare the two DWF files in Autodesk Design Review with the "Compare sheets" command.

Here is how a comparison of a flange looks like after I changed the diameter from 18.81 to 19.95 and reduced the number of holes (red geometry is deleted and green geometry has been added).

I'm just getting started with WPF development and I've run into situation where I need some help.My app will be using various 3D models that are being exported from SolidWorks as XAML files.  I'm opening these in Blend and using copy/paste of the ViewPort3D to get the image into Blend.  After doing this I end up with a tiny drawing about 5mm on my monitor regardless of the original size of the 3D image.  How do I preserve the relative physical size of the 3D image? This is an issue since I'd like to overlay various 3D objects and want to preserve their size relative to each other.  Ultimately I want to animate the items to translate and transform in an animation. Thanks for the help!

DB:2.78:Using Physical Units With 3d Models In Wpf m7

    WPF
have a feature named resolution independence in its graphic system. A WPF
window and all the elements inside it are measured using device-independent
units. A single device-independent unit is defined as 1/96 of an inch. So if
you create a button that's 1 inch wide on your computer monitor, it can remain
1 inch wide on a high-resolution monitor-WPF will simply render it in greater
    detail and with more pixels.

    So
the unit in WPF is a kind of “physical” unit: 1/96 inch. But if you want to add
another physical unit to a 3D object, you’d better define a new property to the
object. This property indicates the physical units.

    The
coordinates in 3D meshes are not measured in DIPs or inches. WPF takes a camera
and a viewport to translate the number of 3D element into 2D coordinates. You
can use ScaleTransform3D or MatrixCamera to translate and transform 3D objects
in animation.By the way, you can refer to the links below to get more information about the 3D in WPF world:WPF GraphicsWPF 3D unitsTransform in WPFWPF 3D: Camera and rollin’3-D Graphics Overview

DB:2.76:How Do I Export 3d Models To The Web? 38

Hi everyone.I've been a part of CGtalk for years and am looking for more forums to ask questions about Maya. This is my first here with many more to follow I'm sure.I've been looking for a way to export a simple 3D polygon model to my website. I want people to be able to see it in 3D.I've been researching this online and it's not looking too good. I looks like the export to shockwave isn't being supported by Maya anymore? At least that's what I've been finding but most of the articles are from 2008.I have maya 2010 running on my Mac. Is there or what is the best way to get my 3D model out into my website? Is it even possible? Thanks in Advance-Drew

    DB:2.75:3d // Projective Texture Mapping ? f8

    Hi,
I need something like projective texture mapping in wpf 3d but i didn't get a clue how to realize it. I need to do something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vnRV-1S65I
This is where I stand: I can load several 3d models and apply textures to them. Models are realized in Autodesk 3D max (with uvw mapped textures), exported and converted to xaml. I also can change the texture of models but it need to have the right dimension to fit perfectly. If I apply second texture (implemented by adding a second diffuse material to the objects material group; image has alpha channel), the image is mapped on the whole object. So how can I specifiy that this second texture is not 'stretched' over the whole geometry and how can I translate or scale this texture on the geometry like in the video? If anyone has a suggestion for this problem it would be really great! Thanks in advance

    DB:2.75:3d // Projective Texture Mapping ? f8

MaterialGroup is the way to go like you've discovered but if the textures are different sizes this is tough because you only get one set of texture coordinates for the model. To have your texture coordinates be completely respected, try setting the ImageBrush'sViewportUnits to BrushMappingMode.Absolute to fix the stretching issue. That could also do nothing to help you. Not enough specifics :)Regarding transformation, try using the ImageBrush's Transform and RelativeTransform properties. I don't know how they work in 3D, though.

    Hi Everybody,

I would like to make some kind of interactive 3D model in flash.

In the image below you see a 3D model. It's just an example to explain what I have in mind.

You see a red disc 1, a blue disc 2 and a pushbutton. The idea is that the blue disc rotates (for example 45 degrees) compared to the red disc when you push the button.

Is that possible in a 3D model that you also can turn around with your mouse?

I can make the models in Rhinoceros 4.0, that's no problem. Importing the model into flash is also no problem (papervision).

But how can I add some interactives to the 3D model like a pushbutton and a slidecard?

I have really no idea how to do that.

    Hello –

I’m currently running Land Desktop R3, but need to upgrade as it’s becoming difficult to share with others who have more recent versions.

My main question is, is Civil 3D worth it? Land Desktop 2008 is still available, as is Civil 3D 2008. Getting both is nearly $10k (new licenses for each).

At my old office we upgraded to Civil 3D Land Desktop; our cad guy pretty much never used 3D. It seemed like 3D had some better features for profiling/cross sections but we got by without using them.

I’m not doing overly complicated designs. I need to take survey data and turn it into a surface/contours, etc.; create profiles of roads, waterlines, sewerlines, stormsewers; create road cross sections, run roadway templates. I’m not designing highways or creating complicated 3D models of overpasses.

I realize the Land Desktop functionality has been rolled into Civil 3D 2009 and will no longer be available separately. So, eventually I’ll get Civil 3D, but if I don’t need it right away that’s a purchase I’d love to put off a few years.

Also, has anyone heard about how much 3D 2009 will cost?

If this would be better off posted in a different discussion area, please let me know.

Civil 3D is $7,495 list. Your not going to want to by the stand a lone Land
Desktop because it DOES NOT contain Civil Design. Civil Design is the module
that you should be using to create Templates and Cross Sections.

Talk to your reseller. There might be a way to upgrade you in a way so when
you purchase a subscription (automatic with C3D) you can get the Civil 3D
Land Desktop Companion included in the purchase. You can use that just like
your R3 until you learn Civil 3D.

Civil 3D is a little painful to setup and learn. I'd definitely suggest
training. But once you have it up and running there are many improvements.
Both building surfaces and creating assemblies (templates) is much better in
C3D. In a way you're lucky. The 2008 release is much better than the
previous ones and more improvements promised for 2008.

Remember to check the hardware requirements for both LDT and C3D 2008.

    Hi,

How can i get neon sign color in photoshop and illustrator ?

I am trying to paint my 3D model using bright and glowing neon sign color.

Can any one help me ?

    Steve

    DB:2.73:Neon Sign Color ap

but depending on what the OP aims for a Inner Glow/Outer Glow-combination might be sufficient.

that's right. Do a google image search of neon lights. You could sample the color but it's the the halation that gives it a "neon look". Your secondary problem will be whether your output color space will contain these colors. If you use fully saturated color the image will likely flatten as it converts for print, you will probably have more luck if you remain in an RGB colorspace for web, or onscreen presentation. There's a subtle balance that you would need to find to hold the dimensional quality of the neon light through the use of glows and less saturated color mixed with the "pure" color that we generally think ( thinking is the most likely source of all problems ) that neon is.

Have you tried to render your lightsource inside of a volume texture such as fog within your 3d app?

there are tons of neon photoshop tutorials:

Yes, I have played with Andrej Benedik's libraries/utilities as well. One thing to note is that using his Reader3ds library ... will obviously introduce a dependency on that library. That is, that library doesn't convert to xaml, it just loads up a Viewport3D by reading the native .3ds file format. But as long as you are using Viewer3ds ... and are okay with how it converted the file ... you're golden.

    Hello everyone,

I have a 3D surface plot in which I want to make several critical points a different color. 1. How do I select the individual points and change their color?

    2. How can I change their size so that it's obvious where the points are?

    Hi Avatoin,
    · How long have you had this issue?
    · Did you make any recent changes prior to the issue?
I would suggest you to try performing a system restore to revert back to the correctly working settings, to do that follow the instructions below:

    a. Click Start, type system restore in the Start Search box, and then click System Restore in the Programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.

    b. In the System Restore dialog box, click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.

    c. In the list of restore points, click a restore point that was created before you began to experience the issue, and then click Next.

    d. Click Finish.

I am having a heck of a time trying to generate Ortho views in Plant 3D. I have architecture coming out of Revit, which I have exported to AutoCAD .dwg (I've tried both polymesh, which I just recently found documentation stating that Orthos do not support, as well as ACIS solids) The exports have been linked to the project and look fine in Plant 3D/AutoCAD. I am able to select them as models to include in the ortho and they show up in the ortho setup view where you define the view range for the ortho. However, when I create the ortho view, I only get the Plant 3D (piping) models in the output. Should what I'm trying to do work? If so, why doesn't it? If not, how are we to use graphics modeled outside of Plant-3D in our orthographic drawings in order to generate proper sheets for deliverables?

ANY insight into creating ortho views that include graphics generated outside of Plant 3D would be greatly appreciated. I cannot find any documentation on this topic. All the ortho documentation and videos I've been able to find (which isn't a whole lot) only deal with Plant-3D generated graphics...

    Hey guys

Now just to note, I'm 14, and currently have to play in my parents room, which is quite annoying.

If I brought a 3D, I'd have new effects with lots of content to come. However, it would be a longer wait, and like I've said, I'm in my parents room, so I'm not sure if its worth waiting

But if I brought an LED, I'd have a nice bright screen, for a cheap-ish price. However, it would be a bit of a gut feeling to know that lots of 3D content is coming out, and I had the choice for the 3D TV.

So, if I buy a 3D, its higher priced and longer wait. If I buy an LED, I could get it instantly and its cheaper, but no 3D. And I am not interested in buying a 3D LED, because they are pretty high priced compared to 3D LCD. Its more of a question of how good the 3D content would be aswell, so if anyone does own a 3D TV, it would be great to have your opinion.

Different people have different opinions, which is why I posted this topic up.

    Thanks in advance

DB:2.69:Should I Wait For 3d, Or Get An Led? 9s

i think 3d is a nice concept and you might have a good few hours fun playing about with it, but for day to day play i would say go for a good full hd tv and maybe the move system (motion controller, navigation controller, and ps eye = approx £75)its up to you, maybe try playing in 3D if there is a demo running in a local games retailer or something before you make your decision, the only opinion here that matters is your, i know its a big decision and alot of money and time to save money to take into account.

    Hi,

I have a 3D geometry like in the picture attached. How is it possible to make a 3D fitting plane and use that afterwards instead of this noisy 3D signal? I read about it a bit and found interesting infos like this one

    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/fitting-2D-and-3D-geometries/m-p/314469#M162750

but I couldn't really get it right how I could use that with my problem. Any thoughts how it is done, I could not find any VI in the libraries that would do 3D fitting.

    Thanks,

    Krivan

Yes, it is surrounded by zeros because I simply chopped off some problematic artifacts from the sides.

As I've said above I have tried your solution with the LS and L-Marq. algorithms but I couldn't get it right how I should feed in the data and how the coefficients are calculated [I haven't had any practice with polynomial fitting before].

Did you mean with the 2D polynomial fitting that the TDMS file contains a 2D array anyway, so if the data is 2D fitted and I wire it into the 3D graph the result will be a fitted 3D plot?

There has been a lot of talk about 3D printers lately. They’re slowly gaining in popularity and power, with people figuring out interesting new things to use them for all the time. They’re pretty cool gadgets whether you’re using them for fun, for learning, or as tools to help you do new and creative things. There is a lot of variety 3D printers and a lot of innovation happening all the time so it can seem a little intimidating at first but if we take our time and explain things clearly, you’ll see that they’re actually fairly straightforward gadgets to understand and once you do you’ll have a world of possibilities in arm’s reach.

There are innumerable uses for 3D printing, from building replacement parts at home, to rapid prototyping, manufacturing toys, jewelry, and all sorts of objects. If you can make a 3D model of it, a 3D printer can help you get a physical manifestation in your hands with little work and in no time at all. As 3D printers find their way into the hands of more and more people, we’re seeing all sorts of new applications.

3D printing is an additive manufacturing process which means that 3D printers add material bit by bit to ultimately form what they’ve been instructed to. This is basically the opposite of traditional subtractive machining processes which tend to remove material until what you’re left with is the object you’re looking to create – think carving. The mostly commonly found consumer level technology is called Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) which lays down material in layers from a coiled filament. The 3D printer basically melts down a string of medium which it then excretes and solidifies layer by layer to form an object in a precise form.

There are other technologies in use for 3D printing but tend to be uncommon for consumer grade machines. Selective Laser Sintering (SLS works to melt powder by use of lasers layer by layer to create your object. The advantage here is that the machine can use a wider range of materials and quality can improve. Not unlike SLS, another technology isi Powder Bed and Binder printing. Think of this like 3D inkjet printing where the jet shoots out a binding agent rather than ink. The advantage here is the ability to create multicolored printed objects which can be a lot of fun. There is also Stereolithography which employs ultraviolet laser light to harden resin (again, layer by layer) to build up your 3D print. This is a pretty interesting technology too which can get you great results.

Each 3D printing technology varies in terms of the associated costs, the speed, the flexibility, and what you can really do with your 3D printer, but for the most part 3D printers let us create objects that might otherwise be impossibly difficult or prohibitively expensive to manufacture. While most consumer 3D printers use plastics, with high end printers it is even possible to 3D print ceramics, metals, and even glass. That means that even if you’re not great with your hands, you can create real physical objects out of practical materials straight from your computer.

It’s really inspiring to look at examples. You can be practical and print out replacement parts you may need, a custom case for your smartphone, a pen holder, a napkin ring, or whatever practical item you might find handy. You could have some fun and print out some toys, or models. Get creative with it. I’ve even heard about people trying to use 3D printers to build more 3D printers!

If you’re an artist or budding entrepreneur who wants to build and market a consumer product, a 3D printer can be extremely handy. Imagine being able to make a 3D model of your design then a few mouse clicks later have a physical representation of it you can touch, look at from every angle, and actually use. Try it out, take some notes, tweek your model then print out the latest version to see if it’s any better. Rapid prototyping has changed how we design and build products and can be an invaluable resource to designers looking to maintain momentum when designing and testing prototypes.

If you just want to have fun with a 3D printer, there are so many ways to do it. You could make your own custom action figures. You could print out a whole army of them in fact. You could make yourself some custom building blocks. You could make fully-formed models, no kits or glue required. Imagine the next time you play monopoly, while others are picking out the car or the cat as their game pieces, you’re able to play with a little miniature version of yourself that you’ve printed out, complete with top hat!

Once you have a 3D printer setup all you need is a 3D model of what you want to print out. You could always learn to craft 3D models yourself, which I highly recommend. It’s surprisingly fun to model something in 3D, and even more so when you can print it out and hold in your hand what you were just imagining only moments earlier. That may, of course, be intimidating to some but don’t fear, because there is an ample supply of pre-modeled 3d files online you can find, ready to print out. You could often start with one of those and even modify it to suit your needs before printing. Expect these libraries of 3D files to grow as 3D printers become more common too. Who knows, in a couple years you may no longer have to go to the store to buy that next gadget, but instead be able to buy the 3D filed online, and send them straight to your printer to produce the item instantly in your own home.

Indeed the future is bright for 3D printing. Its now inexpensive enough that its reasonable for people to have a 3D printer in their home and the technology is user friendly enough that its within reach of anyone looking for turn the digital into the physical.

There are many printers available at Future Shop—soon 3D printers will be among them.

Is there any guide of how to set up animation so it can
    export to SW 3D
from 3D Max? My animation isn't exporting properly. How can I
    create
relationships in Max that will continue in SW 3D? If I group
    models,
that just makes the components in the group linked and act
    like a single
    model in SW 3D right?

Say I have model 1 rotating and model 2 rotating at the same
    time. If I
export this to Director, and just play the animation, it
    looks OK. But
if i use the 'click to play animation' behavior, it can only
    activate
the animation of one model so the other does not move. Do I
    need to do
anything special? Do I need another behavior to activate the
    other
model's animation? Can I save it in Max that they are treated
    as one
animation? Can I create any relationships in Max between the
    models that
will import into sw 3D (besides group)? If I create the
    models, then
animate them, then group the models, shoudl teh animation
    still work OK?

Next, create a box. Then create a copy of the box as an
    instance.
Animate the second box to come out of the first (they start
    in the same
location) so you have a bigger box. Then group the boxes.
    Then rotate
that group and animate the rotation. Is this wrong?

Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to work out what to
    do to get
    simple - keyframed animation across.

Thanks heaps for info you can offer.

    DB:2.69:Animation Setup In Max p9

you only need to group models when thier being animated by
bones whatever that may be. you could also link object in max and
    then export

import the models with the textures on them into flash... and how i
could get a good tutorial on how to manipulate properties of the 3d

This all sounds interesting. I noticed that most tutorials
had untextured 3d objects. Does that mean that it is imposible to

    DB:2.66:Flash 3d xc

so what was the point of swift again?... why not any
    other 3d program?
Swift 3d is much simpler than a high end or even medium end
3d package, it's much cheaper, and it was designed specifically for
Flash. This means that designers who aren't 3d experts can still
easily get 3d effects in Flash, without having to get into the
larger packages, like 3ds or maya.

Also, I think Swift 3D was one of the first that allowed you
to export the 3d as a SWF; although nowadays you can do that in
    most 3d apps.

Start with Blender. It's free, it's powerful and it's getting better each day.

Yes you need another software. They are called 3D computer graphics software.

Start with Blender. It's free, it's powerful and it's getting better each day.

We're going to buy a 55 - 65 inch 3D TV and would appreciate your suggestions and experiences.

First, do you think passive 3D like on the LG models measures up to the passive 3D on other models?

Also: We're having trouble finding working demo's for some manufacturers' 3D TVs at local Best Buy stores (Sharp Aquos, eg.). They seem to be featuring Samsung LG. Anyway, have you seen demo's of other brands, and what do you think of them? How do you think they compare?

Any help, suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

DB:2.66:Active Or Passive 3d? And What Brand Is Best In Yo... - Best Buy: Unboxed mx

It all comes down to your personal preference. Personally, I'd go for the LG LW6500 65 inch model, but thats me. As far as LG measuring up to other passive models, its a matter of whether other passive models measure up to LG. Like Darkwing said however, there has been a really long debate, but I just thought I'd give you my recommendation.

    Hi

I have been using AutoCAD for a good few years now however I have only had the opportunity for working in 2D. I have completed my courses in 3D modelling and would like some advice as to the best way to create architectural models for clients. I am going to produce 3D visuals but am not sure to the correct way of setting up your model with a view to adding materials and rendering to get a nice visual. Should I create the whole model of the building in solid objects or do you use 3D faces and just add materials to those faces. I don't know if there is a correct method for this so if anyone could advise I would be grateful.

    Thanks

    DB:2.66:Re: Creating Models mj

No you would apply your bitmap in the material editor. It sounds to me like you are biting off a little more than you can chew.. Creating anything that will look 'realistic' and impress your client does not come easy. I would advise you to check out some tutorials on material representation for a start. You should become familiar with bitmaps, texture maps, noise maps, opacity, reflection, refraction, etc AND understand what they do. There are ample free tutorials on the net.
As for modelling the actual building from scratch with no help from ACA or ADT, PLUS learning about materials and lighting, i hope your deadline isnt too soon.

As I've said before I am hoping to enter a competition microsoft has her in PR Called AP Idol. Our team was unable to find anyone with the ability to code our game and so I decided to take on the challenge. Have only just begunprogramming I have
quite a bit of questions. Our game concept is a side scroller with 3D Elements (Main Character, Enemies, Things you interact with). If you know of any tutorials that could help me or can answer the questions yourself I would greatlyappreciateit.

1.) What format do the 3D models have to be in?
2.) How do you animate the 3D Models, obviously the person who will be doing the rigging for the models will have the animations but how do I implement them into the code?

3.) Is there a specific amount of polygons you are allowed to have on the models?

4.) Being a side scroller our game will need buttons and a Dpad or joystick to appear on the screen, how can I make this happen?

There will probably be plenty of more basic questions like these so please do bear with me

DB:2.66:Programming Game For Window Phones Basics j3

If you are new to programming, I would strongly suggest starting with 2D sprites instead of 3D models. Once you are familiar with the aspects of game creation and the visual side of things from a 2D standpoint you could start to look at 3D if you still really
wanted to. 3D takes some time to learn on top of everything else and is really just another option; 3D is not always better than 2D on a mobile platform (especially with a side-scroller).
Based on your post, I'm not sure what your experience is. You should know that game creation in general is much more involved than average app creation. You will be building much more from scratch and it will be up to you to built things properly. If you
have very little experience (or none at all) with programming, I would suggest you begin by creating a few 'practice' elements of a game, like a bouncing ball or a even a simple pong style game with DirectX or XNA -- just to get familiar with what you will
be dealing with. Add different elements to those, like controlling the ball and collision detection. Once you are familiar with the basics you can begin to outline your actual game design and get to work.
In my own experience, building the UI first works the best. This means first building your system to handle user input and information output (buttons, text, windows, etc). Once your UI is running great you can begin to build the game itself. You will find
that building a game before your UI is created can be annoying at best, and can lead to cutting corners later when the UI becomes an afterthought rather than getting the attention it deserves.
Again, if you have very little experience, I would suggest starting by creating some small projects that use elements you would find in a real game, like a bouncing ball with collision detection. Work up from there until you feel you are ready to create
a full side scrolling game. I would not suggest jumping right into a full scale game with no practice or experience ahead of time.
Hopefully this helps give you an idea of where to start.

    Cameo,

I have a video tutorial at my website that shows
you how to manipulate the ucs and to work with 3D solids. You will need to be
very patient or be on broadband to get it fast.

Note: I disagree with Rich. I think Acad is better
for working in 3D. It does have limitations, but dimension driven models
(parametrics/formulas/constraints) take time to set up. Sometimes it can be
excessive amounts of time. It all depends on what you do though. Those other
packages may have a feature you really need.

    Here is the page:
    href="http://SmartLister.com/Tutorials.htm"http://SmartLister.com/Tutorials.htm
Look for: How to work with 3D solids then
right-click on the link and "Save target as". If you open it directly from the
page (stream the video) you will not be able to move the slider to fast forward
    or rewind.

    Good luck,

I am reviewing eLearning Suite with respect to creating eLearning modules featuring the ability for users to both be presented with and interact with 3D models. We are a not-for-profit industry association in the building design/construction space and we believe presenting and interacting with 3D models is a logical approach for this industry in preparation of training/courseware.

I can create 3D models in various CAD type software and now wish to understand better how to integrate these into eLearning by way of process for taking them into the various components of the eLearning Suite. The deliverables will ultimately include:

    1. Powerpoint presentations used for traditional face-to-face seminar presentations. I would like the presenter to be able to open a 3D model directly off the Powerpoint page and navigate within it. I had thought that I could create a 3D PDF of the model and open this off the PP screen. Can Acrobat X Pro be used to create 3D PDF from CAD models?

    2. PDF documents which include 3D PDF images that can be opened and navigated. Can Acrobat X Pro be used to assemble a PDF document comprising traditional text and 3D navigable images?

    3. Courseware created in Captivate 5.5 as part of the eLearning Suite: How do I incorporate navigable 3D models into the eLearning Suite? As distinct from user navigable content, how do I incorporate video content with animations demonstrating navigation of the model and with text callouts etc superimposed to document salient points?

I would appreciate any pointers or overview directions I should explore in order to quickly assess the processes I need to implement in order to establish the product suitability.

DB:2.63:Implementing 3d Content Interactivity In Elearning Suite cc

You can create a PDF in Acrobat X that can display a 3D model that the user can interact with, but I think you'll find that you have to create this 3D model in another software package and then import into Acrobat. We've done this once or twice some time ago using Blender to create the 3D object and then import into Acrobat. But none of this gets you into Captivate.

Now that Flash 11 supports the Stage 3D (Molehill) API you can theoretically create very sophisticated 3D models that are rendered out as SWFs, which means you could THEN insert them into Captivate. However, I've not seen this done so far by anyone using Captivate, but there are some quite sophisticated 3D games being ported to AS3 and Stage 3D.

    Hi wang2dog,

Unfortunately, you're not going to find tools to create meshes from scratch in Mudbox. Mudbox is meant to be used as a companion app to Maya or Max. Generally, Mudbox artists build base meshes in one of those programs first, then send that to Mudbox to add high res detail.

You can also use a program like Meshmixer (http://meshmixer.com/ - it's free) to create high res sculpts that take advantage of dynamic mesh creation, then import the result into Mudbox, where you can retopologize the mesh and continue adding high res details.
