    DB:3.56:Compiler Bug: (0x228360 == 0) Was True!! 1m

    A compiler (or debugger) bug has been found. Please see the attached screenshot of a watch window. In the window, there is a variable Tasr_Vi. It has a value of 0x228360. This variable was compared against 0 in an if statement, and the comparison returned true!

    if (Tasr_Vi == 0) // Tasr_Vi currently has a value of 0x228360
    {

    /* BUG: We got here!! */
    }
    This is clearly either a compiler bug, or a debugger bug, or a combination of both of them. It is not possible that there is no compiler bug and no debugger bug. Zero is only equal to 0x228360 for very large values of zero.

    We can make code available to NI so that you can duplicate this bug, and fix it. When can you have the bug fixed?

    You can solve it as well when you define one of the two as an extern.

    With #ifdef you could switch back and forth between extern and static whenever a module was used by itself.

    Zero can have quite a large actual value if it is used in a political or military context, btw... but that's another forum :-)

    Hi all,

    I'm using the KDS to build some things on FRDM-KL25Z, and I've followed that configuration for debug Video Tutorial: Project creation and debugging with FRDM-KL25Z.

    But, I see that is not possible to add global variables at the Variables window.

    It's a eclipse configuration or a KSD/OpenSDA bug?

    Hi Hui,
    Thank you for posting in the MSDN forum.
    It is a VS debugger tool issue, but it is also related to the dx dev, it will need more DX professional knowledge, so to help you resolve this issue, my suggestion is that you could post this issue in this forumhttp://xboxforums.create.msdn.com/forums/default.aspx?GroupID=7
    for better support.
    In addition, I did some research about the Debugging Shaders, maybe be you could get some useful information from it. Thanks for your understanding.

    DB:3.29:Debugger Wont Start For Native Unit Test (Vs11 Beta) kk

    I have a simple unit test project with one unit test defined. It calls a function in the DLL I'm testing and asserts some conditions on the result. The test fails with an unexpected exception
    thrown (which is actually an expected result). However, when I try to launch the test under the debugger by right-clicking on the failed test and then clicking Debug Selected Unit Test, the IDE pauses for a moment and then presents a dialog box saying Debugger
    is performing a remote operation that is taking longer than expected. This dialog lingers indefinitely.

    My environment is Win7 x64, Visual Studio 11 Beta.

    I've filed this problem as a bug on connect, but that turned out to be less than helpful. I'm not sure what happened, but they closed the bug first, and then asked questions, and
    then ignored my responses. Anyway, there's a little bit more information there.

    Calling OSA_TimeDelay on the TWR-K64F120M is hanging my application. If I step through with the debugger it gets into OSA_TimeGetMsec and never returns. Is there something special that needs to be initialized for these functions to work, or is this possibly a bug in the board specific files for this demo board?

    DB:3.06:Debugging A Single Item Rather Than A Whole Project 99

    I'm trying to create a script debugger extension for Visual Studio. I don't want to create a custom project typesimplyfor the script files. I would rather have it that when a script is the currently selected document F5 will trigger my custom
    debugger. I've noticed that with the DebugLaunch and IVsSolutionBuildManager I can set a IVsHiearchy to the current start up project. Would it be possible to swap out the current start up project and create a custom IVsHierarchy that then returned my custom
    debugger (through the IVsDebuggableProject interface)? This would cause my custom debugger to be loaded and execute the script file.
    This is my first go around at creating a custom debugger and was wondering if I was heading in the totally wrong direction. Is a custom Project Type necessary for a custom debugger? Is there a simpler solution?

    DB:3.06:Debugging A Single Item Rather Than A Whole Project 99

    Hi Adam,
    We have were able to integrate a script debugger without forcing users to place scripts in their own project. To do so, we did have to create a new menu entry Start Script Debugging on the debug menu.
    In the handler for the command, we launch the debugger as follows:
    DebugTargetInfo info = new DebugTargetInfo()
    {
    Arguments = commandArguments,
    CurrentDirectory = workingDirectory,
    Executable = launchUrl,
    LaunchOperation = DebugLaunchOperation.CreateProcess,
    DebugEngines = new Guid[] { typeof(OurCustomDebugEngine).GUID },
    PortSupplier = typeof(OurCustomDebugPortSupplier).GUID,
    LaunchFlags = DebugLaunchFlags.StopDebuggingOnEnd
    };

    VSServices.ShellDebugger.LaunchDebugTargets( info );

    This uses the following user types and extension methods:

    Custom projects have several advantages when it comes to debugging. A custom project is the only way you'll be able to:

    Allow users to press F5 to start debugging (assuming the custom project type is set as the startup project).
    Provide the standard project property pages to configure build and/or debug options.

    Hi,

    DS-5 contains all the debug configurations that DSTREAM needs in order to communicate with a target device, plus the DSTREAM autoconfiguration tool which attempts to identify the SoC layout.

    However, it is possible (with some manual configuration) to use DSTREAM from another debugger through the RDDI interface

    DB:3.01:Debugger Watch Numeric Values In Ivf 11.1.046 3d

    I recently upgraded to 11.1.046 (integrated into VS2008) and now the debugger Watch values are no longer displayed as simple real numbers. they look like hex values whereas previously they were floats. Is this a bug in the debugger or is there a way to control the type of value displayed?

    DB:3.01:Debugger Watch Numeric Values In Ivf 11.1.046 3d

    Quoting - Andrew Smith

    Having D is useful since if you copy and paste a number from one variable to another in the watch window, you need D to obtain double precision, otherwise the number gets trucated to single precision.

    True, though use of D it is a bit of a bummer if you want to take the number out of the VS environment into another environment that doesn't understand the convention (eg Excel). Depending on the target environment you can work around this with basic string parsing, but it is a bit of a nuisance. Making this user configurable (similar to the "Hexadecimal Display" option) would be good.

    Also it looks like the VS debug watch windows are unaware of the compiler settings that affect the default kinds, so something that is shown using a D may not actually be of double precision type in the program's source.

    Hi,
    My colleaque found an interesting behaviour with Java debugger. I have made some tests and here are the results:

    Test code:

    double dNum = 43.680659;
    float fNum = (float) dNum;

    System.out.println("double number = " + dNum);
    System.out.println("float number = " + fNum);This is tested in Eclipse IDE 3.4.2 with following Java JRE versions:
    - 1.4.2_19
    - 1.5.0_14
    - 1.6.0_10

    And following JDK:
    - jdk1.5.0_16

    Eclipse IDE will show following values for variables in all platforms:

    dNum = 43.680659
    fNum = 43.74316Console will print:
    double number = 43.680659
    float number = 43.68066Testing also with command line debugger jdb. Java JRE version:
    - 1.4.2_19

    And following JDK:
    - jdk1.5.0_16

    Results are the same as in Eclipse IDE. Is there a bug in debugger environment?

    DB:3.00:Coldfusion Builder 2 Rds Debugging Error. zx

    I am running a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit system with ColdFusion 9.01 (Developer Edition). I just downloaded the trial version of ColdFusion Builder and cannot get the debugger to work. I have followed all the instructions concerning making sure RDS is enabled in ColdFusion (which it was for my old CFEclipse version and some Flex apps). I've done everything I can think of for configuring CF Builder, but I cannot get the debugger to work. When I go to RDS configuration in CF Builder and click "Test Connection," A popup states that "Test connection was successful." Since I'm using IIS and not the CF built-in web server, I configured the Server Information using port 80. However, when I click "Test Debugger," I get an error: "Test debugger failed. The debugger server is currently listening on port 51,367..." So, I change the port to 51367. The connection tests successfully again, but when I test the debugger, I get another error: "Test debugger failed. An RDS connection was established but the ColdFusion RDS line debugger could not be contacted. The server gave the following message: -1: Could not initialize class coldfusion.logs.CFlogs." I cannot find any reference to that error message using Google, or searching Adobe. When I click on the "bug" drop-down and then click the name of "Debug server," I get a similar, but different and longer error:

    -------

    Unable to connect to the RDS server 'ColdFusion'.

    Ensure that the server is currently running and that line debugging and RDS are enabled. You may also need to check your RDS connection settings in Eclipse to ensure that they are correct.

    I check in the jvm.config file and those settings are already there. So, does anyone have a clue about any of this? DB:2.99:Transactiontimeout(19327352) Max. Is This A Constant? 8z

    I am using the interactive debugger in Eclipse and wanted to know what the maximum possible timeout for @TransactionTimeout() was. I could not find it in the docs or googling and thus did a series of tests. Based on the tests, the max for @TransactionTimeout() appears to be 19327352.
    Is this max setting a constant or is the maximum value based on characteristics of my project?
    If it is a constant, then it would appear that there is a bug with the identification of errors in jboss tools for Eclipse. In Eclipse, it is highlighted as an error if a value of greater than the largest value for int (i.e. 2147483647) is set for @TransactionTimeout().
    Either the maximum should be changed to 2147483647 or the error highlighting in Eclipse should start from 19327353.
    Thoughts, Comments?

    I'm trying to nail down a strange bug that only reproduces when the app is not under a debugger (even remote debugger). Is there a way to see console output for release app that runs outside of debugger?
    Being able to see events sent via msWriteProfilerMark would be great!

    DB:2.97:See Metro Wwahost.Exe Console Output Without Debugger kx

    One approach is to just map console.log etc. to msWriteProfilerMark. Then you can just view that in an ETW trace of the Microsoft-IE provider which you can capture using

    logman. Do you need it real time?

    (function () {
    if (window.console window.console.log) {
    var originalLog = window.console.log;
    window.console.log = function (msg) {
    window.msWriteProfilerMark(Log: msg);
    originalLog(msg);
    }
    }
    if (window.console window.console.info) {
    var originalInfo = window.console.info;
    window.console.info = function (msg) {
    window.msWriteProfilerMark(Info: msg);
    originalInfo(msg);
    }
    }
    if (window.console window.console.warn) {
    var originalWarn = window.console.warn;
    window.console.warn = function (msg) {
    window.msWriteProfilerMark(Warn: msg);
    originalWarn(msg);
    }
    }
    if (window.console window.console.error) {
    var originalError = window.console.error;
    window.console.error = function (msg) {
    window.msWriteProfilerMark(Error: msg);
    originalError(msg);
    }
    }
    })();

    Another approach is to store the messages then have a magic key sequence that will pop a div with the messages in.

    DB:2.96:[Please Ignore - Not A Dc Bug] Nasty Bug When Working With P/Invoke 89

    EDIT: The problem has come back so this is NOT related to Debugger Canvas. I'm not sure what is causing this but it is intermittend. It just happened to go away for a short while after I uninstalled Debugger Canvas. Sorry for the confusion. Please ignore
    the post below.
    --------------------------------------
    I found a nasty bug in Debugger Canvas where if you do mixed debugging and call into unmanaged code using P/Invoke, you will get random access violations when going in or coming out of unmanaged calls. This even happens when Debugger Canvas is not active
    at the time. I spent hours tracking down the issue, playing around with calling conventions, call parameters etc until as a last resort I uninstalled Debugger Canvas and the problems went away completely.
    I am surprised that Debugger Canvas can affect VS at that level where it can't even make reliable P/Invoke calls.
    Debugger Canvas is a great idea but it needs work, and once again I'd like to add that this would be even better if it supported C as well.

    DB:2.94:Possible Bug In Debugger? 17

    I am using "CodeWarrior_for_S12X_V5_0" with True-Time Debugger ver 6.1, build 9061 to develop/debug software for the 9S12XE384.

    As I understand it, If PPAGE is set to 0xFD, then at 0x8000'L I should see the same memory as I would see viewing 0x7F4000'G. This appears to be a correct understanding. With PPAGE = 0xFF, the views for 0x8000'L and 0x7FC000'G are the same. Likewise for several other pages of FLASH ROM.

    However, with PPAGE = 0xFD, I see different memory content depending on whether I am viewing 0x8000'L or 0x7F8000'G.

    Is this a bug in the debugger?

    I have attached a ZIP file with screen pictures of what I am seeing.

    DB:2.94:Possible Bug In Debugger? 17

    For ram, RPAGE == 0 maps the registers to the 0x1000 block.

    For EEPROM, there are devices like the EP100 which have different types of eeprom, the EPAGE values for one start at 0 (0,1,2,...) and for the other they start at 0xFF and then count downwards.

    For S08's with PPAGE (QE128 and others) PPAGE value 0,1,2,3, and so fourth are used.

    For the S12(X) I'm unaware that PPAGE==0 would be legal, but as the EPAGE shows this can change with new devices.

    Anyhow, the debugger uses logical addresses even for addresses 0x10000, so 0x8000 means PPAGE == 0.

    Sometimes after a break point is hit, if I don't do any stepping thru code but just hit the continue button, the debugger will start breaking at what appears to be random assembly instructions. Sometimes it break one or two times, sometimes it can break lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots ... well  you get the picture.
    I have noticed that once the debugger goes crazy with these random automatic breakpoints, if I simply step once (either in the source when my actual break point was set and encountered, or in the assembly window once the breaks start occuring) the process continues as it should (the debugger quits breaking).
    I have only seen this with Visual Studio 2005. Is this a known bug and if so, is there a hotfix or SP fix for it?

    After I installed the debugger canvas,
    every time I debug (not in the debugger canvas but in the original class file) and hover with the mouse on a field\property
    the intellisense that used to be shown with the field value doesn't shown any more.
    I'll be glad to know if there is a walkthrough for that.

    DB:2.91:Bug That Started Due To Debugger Canvas pk

    Hi all,
    We think we've identified the cause of the missing tool tips and the occasions where the debugger shows a file instead of the canvas.
    Debugger Canvas isnot handling collapsed regions correctly, sowhen hitting abreakpoint in a file with collapsed regions, a file gets opened instead of the canvas, and the tooltips are broken. We're working on a fix. In the meantime, try
    to expand all collapsed regions, and see if the problem persists. If there are still problems, please let us know!
    I can also confirm that Shardul's bug reproduces here. If the canvas is not zoomed to 100% we will fail to show the data tool tips in the canvas. We're looking for a fix to that as well.
    Thanks everyone for reporting the problems and helping us get to the bottom of the cause!
    Thanks!

    DB:2.91:Must I Create A New Project Type Or I Can Specify The My Debugger In Project Setting???? 1c

    Must I create a new c++ project type?Looks like the macro will be pre-compiled to native C++ code. All the language use the same VS Debugger by creating a language service and a debug expression evaluator. The problem will be that the C++ language service and expression evaluator won't recognize your embedded macro, instead of the project type.To achieve what you want, you have to modify the C++ language service and expression evaluator. However, we have not provide any mechanism can let you achieve this.Thanks!Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.

    DB:2.90:Observation On Ide Debugger px

    This is not a bug report or a feature request, per se. This is posted in the hope that it helps someone else.

    Using the IVF 8.1.030 integration for DevStudio .NET 2002, I find that the IDE debugger does not represent CHARACTER data the way I might have expected. Or, does it?

    If I build a CHARACTER variable with an embedded null, the debugger treats the value of the variable as if the null were a terminal delimiter, notwithstanding the facts that len_trim() gives the correct length and PRINT actually prints reasonably, i.e., the entire variable with the embedded null interpretated as an ASCII blank.

    So far, this would not be so bad, except that the debugger display shows everything after the null as blank, up to and including the actual final character in the CHARACTER variable. This clearly need not be the case; ASCII characters may follow the null.

    The following example shows the behavior:

    program DebugStrings

    implicit none

    character(40) :: salutation
    integer :: i

    salutation = 'Hello World'
    print *, salutation

    i = len_trim( salutation )

    salutation = salutation(:i) // '!'C
    ! debugger shows 'Hello World! '

    print *, salutation

    i = len_trim( salutation )

    salutation = salutation(:i) // 'Hola!'
    ! debugger still shows 'Hello World! '

    print *, salutation

    i = len_trim( salutation ) ! gives 18, as expected

    end program DebugStrings

    This contrived example may not seem interesting, except insofar as it gives us a clue as to how the debugger is implemented. (Ok, that's still not very exciting.) But imagine the potential for confusion in a mixed-language context. That's how I actually stumbled into this.

    Other non-printing characters, like newline, do not seem subject to the same interpretation as null; they simply appear as squares denoting non-printable characters in the debugger. Again, this tends to confirm the hint about the debugger implementation. Somethign had to be chosen as an internal delimiter. That's fine. But filling the rest of the declared variable length, post-null, with blanks is confusing.

    Caveat scriptor!

    A compiler (or debugger) bug has been found. Please see the attached screenshot of a watch window. In the window, there is a variable Tasr_Vi. It has a value of 0x228360. This variable was compared against 0 in an if statement, and the comparison returned true!

    if (Tasr_Vi == 0) // Tasr_Vi currently has a value of 0x228360
    {

    /* BUG: We got here!! */
    }

So how am I supposed to debug this?  And how is it even possible for the debugger to prevent my program from crashing?

    Is it possible to write a custom debugger visualizer for Silverlight 4?

    DB:2.88:Debugger Visualizer In Silverlight 4? f7

    Yah, the serialization namespace is available in Silverlight, but it's only a subset of what you get in .Net, and it appears to only support the WCF-style datacontract serialization.

    Debugger Visualizers appear to require teh old serialization -- ISerializable or the [Serializable] attribute, neither of which are defined in Silverlight's version of the System.Runtime.Serialization namespace. -- you can see the differences by flipping
    between platforms in the link that you provided.
    In full .Net, ISerializable is defined in the System.Runtime.Serialization namespace, and it simply isn't present in Silverlight. the Serializable attribute is in the System namespace (defined in mscorlib.dll), and it also is not present in Silverlight.

    Yes, I have tried both. It did set the source path of target machine correctly, but I still can't do source level debug in user mode debugger controlled from kernel debugger. I suspect the source codes located in the target machine can't be accessed in
    the host machine. That's why I can't do source level debugging with this method. With remote debug method, Windbg searches the source codes in the host machine instead of the target machine. I think that's why I can do source level debugging with remote debug

    Is it possible to force what type of code the Virtual Debugger in Visual Studio attaches to? In Visual Studio's native debugger, when attaching to a process, the options are: Auto or Manual, where you can select one or more of: Managed, Native, Script and T-Sql. I can't find any equivalent option in the VMware virtual debugger. I've tried changing the VS project properties for debug type, but the VMware Virtual Debugger does not appear to pick these up.

    This is problematic for me because the auto mode is unreliable for me when dealing with mixed mode debugging. On a target with managed and native code, where I need to debug the native code, the auto mode only detects the managed code. When debugging through Visual Studio's debugger, I get around this problem by manually selecting Native.

    DB:2.85:Visual Studio - Virtual Debugging Code Type fp

    thanks for the response Adam. Hopefully, the UI will be updated to allow selection of the debug code type. It seems like its a simple matter of passing that preference along to the the Visual Studio debugger. Also, there is debug code type in the project properties in VS, so that is an additional/alternative way of setting this property.

    With KITL and the platform builder I can enable and disable debug zones. Is it also possible to enable and disable debug zones if I use only the serial port for debugging? If so, how can I do this?
    At the moment I am searching a bug in the USB OTG driver, so I like to enable the debug messages ZONE_OTG_FUNCTION.
    Best regards,
    Andreas

    DB:2.84:Enable Debug Zones On Serial Port 71

    Actually it is better to just set the debug zones in the device's registy (so you don't have to clone/change/rebuild any code):

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\DebugZones]
    USBOTG=dword:FFFF ; Enable all zones for module that registered with debug with name USB OTG

    Good luck,

    I hope this will help someone. I remember there was a threadwhere someone had problems talking to the target, while all possible clues seemed to beeliminated.

    I haveS12C target board, were Vcc=3.3V was not wired to BDM connector. CW 5.1debugger was unable to connect and program until I wired Vcc to pin6 of BDM connector. Communication dialog every time showed different values for IO_DELAY_CNT. I think it's a bug. I specifyknown correct IO_DELAY_CNT value, but it is everytimesuperseded by debugger detected value. I think"Autodetect communication speed" mode should be used forautocalculation of IO_DELAY_CNT?

    It is weirdthat NoICE debugger was communicating fine without Vcc on pin6.After wiring Vcc to pin6 both debuggers are workingfine.

    DB:2.84:Disconnection Bug? cx

    Hello,

    I have ran into what seems to be a bug in beta version, and I have not found any answers for that so far. When I am running debugger, if I click on "Disconnect" button, the debugger should disconnect and the program should keep running on target board. However, when I try to disconnect, the program halts. The debugger acts as if I had clicked the "Terminate" button.

    I have tried that with a blinking LED program, using Processor Expert with a BitIO for the LED and a periodic interrupt timer. When I click on "Disconnect" the program halts. I have tried that with both a FRDM-KL25 board (PE Multilink OpenSDA interface) or a FRDM-K64F (Segger J-Link interface).

    Am I doing anything wrong? Or is this a real bug?

    Cheers,

    Antonio

    Under Windows 7, if you try to debug a Console app and you kill the debugee (or stop it) the debugee won't terminate. Plus, CSRSS will hang (occupying a full core, 50% CPU on my machine) in CsrReplyToMessage. Is it a VS2008 SP1 or a Windows 7 (Beta1, build 7000) bug?Any workaround/bug fix for that?

    DB:2.84:Debugger Hangs On Windows 7 8f

    I am also having this problem, but only on Windows 7. (and my machine name is all upercase)Here's what happened on mine:I have encountered a situation where closure of the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1 dubugger can cause CSRSS.exe to use more than 50% of CPU usage (i'm on a dual core system so it is consuming the majority of one core). On this machine (dual booting Vista x64 Win7) the same does not occur under Windows Vista.
    What did I do?I created a new Visual C++ Project (Windows Console Application)Whipped up a simple hello world program using the following source:
    // main.cpp#include iostreamint main( ) {    std::cout Hello World;}
    Set up a breakpoint on the line which starts std::cout.Next I build the program, and select Start debugging from the Debug menu. (no errors/warnings)
    Close running application using the close button on the console window.
    The Problem:Visual Studio hangs for a second (approx) and then the debugger closes.Additionally, the process that was being debugged does not exit.And finally, upon inspection of Task Manager two copies of conhost.exe can be seen, alongside CSRSS.exe which had an average CPU usage of 50%And lastly - i've been trying to submit an error report on this issue to the windows 7 portion on Microsoft Connect, does anyone have a link to report?
    Update: don't worry - i've just found the technet bit...

    A compiler (or debugger) bug has been found. Please see the attached screenshot of a watch window. In the window, there is a variable Tasr_Vi. It has a value of 0x228360. This variable was compared against 0 in an if statement, and the comparison returned true!

    if (Tasr_Vi == 0) // Tasr_Vi currently has a value of 0x228360
    {

    /* BUG: We got here!! */
    }

    For a windows service, a frequently used pattern is a batch that runs on a timer. When you debug the service, you have to start the service, and then attach the debugger to the service process. The problems is, if you start the timer the same time as you start the service, the debugger can't catch the code because the execution has passed the code.So I have to set a 30 second delay on my code to give myself a time to prepare the debugger. Then I have to remember to delete the code for delay because I don't want this kind of behavior in my deployment.Any idea how to solve the problem in debugger except #if DEBUG ?Thanks,Sean Zhu

    Visual Studio hangs with 50% CPU load (AMD Dual Core) of devenv.exe.
    After about 20 - 30 seconds the CPU load falls to 0% and stepping to the next line is possible and so on...
    I can also reproduce this error, in an empty native MFC application (Installed Feature Pack), which I had created with VS 2008, if I step for example in the inline code of the default constructor of a local CString variable: CString cstrTest;
    My Tools-Options-Debugging-Symbols are empty.
    I have also reseted all options without success.

    DB:2.82:Vs 2008 C++ Debugger Hangs While Debugging Inline Code 3z

    To follow up on this a bit. This problem is not caused by the fact that you are stepping into a header file. This problem is caused by the fact that you are stepping into mfc90ud.dll, and the fact that the PDB for mfc90ud.dll is ~26MB, so when the debugger searches the PDB for the line information that the autos window needs, it can take a long time. As a comparison, in VS 2008 RTM this file was 11MB.

    Moving forward, we will see what we can do to make this faster.

    In the mean time, here are the two ways that you can work around the problem:
    1. Delete or rename %windir%\symbols\dll\mfc90d.i386.pdb.
    -or-
    2. Close the autos window (not that it needs to actually be closed, not just hidden).

    Gregg Miskelly

    DB:2.82:Vbe Debugger Doesnt Stop Within Class Methods 7x

    I started creating my own class. I'm finding that when a bug is encountered, the VBE debugger does not stop and point to the problem within a class method. It always stops at the point where the class method is called. I then have to proceed with execution
    by stepping into the class method at the point where it is invoked via an object. Some of the methods are quite large, and stepping into them in order to step through the code is just not very practical.
    Is it normal behaviour for the debugger to not stop within class methods? Is there a switch or some kind of circumstance that affects this?

    DB:2.82:Vbe Debugger Doesnt Stop Within Class Methods 7x

    Thanks Jim and Chip. That was the answer.
    On a somewhat related note, I find that setting Application.DisplayAlerts=False sometimes sends the single-stepping debugger into a tailspin, ending up in completely nonsensical nether regions of code.

    I know I'm responding to my own posts, but having raised a TAR on this issue I have been told that this is the place to raise issues with Webutil.

    The latest is that Oracle Support have told me that I am probably experiencing the unpublished BUG:

    Bug.3497366 (74) WEBUTIL FORMS DEBUGGER DOES NOT WORK WITH WEBUTIL

    So we now do not have Debug Messages OR a Debugger under Forms 10g. Is there an estimate for when the next release of Forms will be for MS Windows or just the next version of Webutil? Can these fixes be backported? Upgrading to 10g has resulted in mixed benefits - increased performance through Jinitiator but no debug - so another upgrade to fix the debugger could impact our system elsewhere.

If you are debugging a program that loads a huge amount of DLLs that you don't have symbols for anyway, it still tries to look for them from the symbol server (via _NT_SYMBOL_PATH). WinDBG is smart in that it deferrs most of the symbol loading until necessary, so it doesn't take 20 mins to boot up the application due to all the network trips/whatever symbol searching mechanism it uses.So can Visual Studio's debugger defer symbol loading?

    I'm receiving the popup message: Microsoft Visual Studio is waiting for an internal operation to complete after a while waiting and after switching the windows while debugging a program.
    As other message in the forum suggested, I already tried to repair my VS install, but that didn't fix the issue.
    After digging a little I found the debugger seems to be locking while waiting for a reply for a request sent by OLE. I am guessing I hit a bug in VS debugger, perhaps when it tries to update certain variables (presumably complex STL variables) in the screen during a breakpoint or during line stepping?
    Anyone knows a workaround or why this is happening?

    DB:2.79:Bug? 10.1.3 Ea: Pl/Sql Debugger Doesn't Work 7d

    Hi,

    I was impressed by the PL/SQL debugger in JDev 10.1.2. I am a SQL-developer doing some occasional Java work. For me the PL/SQL debugger is an important reason to use JDeveloper. It is easy to use and much better than some commercial PL/SQL debugger products.
    However, I installed JDev 10.1.3 and now it doesn't work anymore..
    I tried to debug the same PL/SQL packages as in 10.1.2.

    DB:2.79:Bug? 10.1.3 Ea: Pl/Sql Debugger Doesn't Work 7d

    Hi,

    Thank you for the response. The bug description matches the behavior I get when debugging, so I will wait on the next release.

    Hi I'm using 7.5 and sometimes I think the debugger is running old workflow rather than the one newly saved.

    Is this a know issue? and is it fixed/better in 7.6?

    For complex workflow this can be a problem because I end up thinking I've still got a bug which I may have actually fixed and saved?

    This isn't one I remember from 7.5, and I definitely haven't come across it in 7.6.

    DB:2.79:Argument Passing Is Displayed Wrong In Hiwave Debugger dp

    Hi.I've discovered an anoying bug in Hiwave debugger for HC08 V6.1. (CW version 5.0 patch 1).The "Procedure" window displays the current stack trace including the argumentspassed to a called function.Following the calling convention for HC08 a maximum of 2 bytes is passed inregisters. This is allways the last variable to pass, all the other are passedon stack.The debugger only displays arguments passed via stack correctly. The onespassed in registers show wrong values (normally the pushed return address).This affects C and C++ functions and also "Data" windows that display e.g. apassed this-pointer.Take care when dereferencing this-pointers!How do i post a bug report?Flo

    DB:2.79:Argument Passing Is Displayed Wrong In Hiwave Debugger dp

    Hello CrasyCat.It's clear to me, that it's only a display problem.But not all functions push the register content on the stack on entry. If this is not necessary the argument is processed directly.In fact my debugger shows a wrong value in the procedure window where the passed arguments stand in this case (no undefined).You are right, once you know this problem it's not a problem anymore.But before I discovered it, it was very confusing because i saw a wrong this-pointer, then looked at the wrong memory, saw wrong content ....and it wasn't at all a problem of my code!Flo

    Hi,I ve tried the debugger for ifortran windows and wanted to get the ifortran dubugger for ubuntu. I was hoping that they are very similar and wanted to try the one month trial version for ifortran dubugger for ubuntu. But It seems they are pretty different from each other.For example the if I want to look for a variable in couple of modules in the same program at once it seems it is not possible in the debugger in the new debugger. But it is possible in the windows ifortran debugger. has anyone experince this? Are the two debuggers are very different?Please give your commets!Thanks!ALD

    Thannk you for your comments. I iwll try the options you ve mentioned..ALD

    Log Message:
    -----------
    Major debugger checkin: A new expression evaluator. Previously, the
    debugger used a somewhat crude parser that handled simple expressions
    correctly but failed on many more complex expressions. The new one
    handles many more cases that used to fail, including:

    - Most E4X expressions such as x.y, x.@y, x..y; the main thing that is
    not supported is E4X filters such as x.(@y==3)
    - Function calls, e.g. myvar.toString(), mystring.charAt(0) (this
    requires player 10)
    - References to global classes and variables, e.g. MyClass.myStatic,
    Math.max(a,b,c), String(myvar), etc. (this requires player 10)
    - Floating-point arithmetic, e.g. myFloat + 1.5
    - mystring.length
    - operator 'new', e.g. foo = new MyClass()
    - Regular expressions, e.g. mystring.match(/regex/ig)
    - Array literals, e.g. myarray = ["my", "literal", "array"]
    - Propertly tells the difference between undefined, null, NaN, Intinity,
    true, false
    - Ternary operator: a ? b : c
    - Almost all other operators e.g. ===, !==, and (still doesn't
    support instanceof, in, is, as)

    Note, fdb.jar now depends on mxmlc.jar and asc.jar.

    Also in this checkin: Did some prep work for the day, someday in the
    future, when there is a 64-bit Flash player. Variable id's are now 64
    bits (long) instead of 32 bits (int).

    Hi everybody,

    I just would like to know how is it possible to show bind-variables in the forms debugger release 6.0.5.35.3. I tried the following without success...

    .show variables
    .show :my_bind_variable

    DB:2.79:[Svn] 1405: Major Debugger Checkin: A New Expression Evaluator. 9s

    Revision: 1405
    Author: mmoreart@adobe.com
    Date: 2008-04-24 17:18:24 -0700 (Thu, 24 Apr 2008)

    Log Message:
    -----------
    Major debugger checkin: A new expression evaluator. Previously, the debugger used a somewhat crude parser that handled simple expressions correctly but failed on many more complex expressions. The new one handles many more cases that used to fail, including:

    - Most E4X expressions such as x.y, x.@y, x..y; the main thing that is not supported is E4X filters such as x.(@y==3)
    - Function calls, e.g. myvar.toString(), mystring.charAt(0) (this requires player 10)
    - References to global classes and variables, e.g. MyClass.myStatic, Math.max(a,b,c), String(myvar), etc. (this requires player 10)
    - Floating-point arithmetic, e.g. myFloat + 1.5
    - mystring.length
    - operator 'new', e.g. foo = new MyClass()
    - Regular expressions, e.g. mystring.match(/regex/ig)
    - Array literals, e.g. myarray = ["my", "literal", "array"]
    - Propertly tells the difference between undefined, null, NaN, Intinity, true, false
    - Ternary operator: a ? b : c
    - Almost all other operators e.g. ===, !==, and (still doesn't support instanceof, in, is, as)

    Note, fdb.jar now depends on mxmlc.jar and asc.jar.

    Also in this checkin: Did some prep work for the day, someday in the future, when there is a 64-bit Flash player. Variable id's are now 64 bits (long) instead of 32 bits (int).

    DB:2.79:How Do You Us The Debugger In Visual Studio.Net With Plumtree? 8f

    I would like to be able to start the debugger in Visual Studio.NET. Enter the PlumTree portal. Select my application and be able to debug with the current user's context. For example: using the GDK API to retrieve the userName.
    Is this possible?

    DB:2.79:How Do You Us The Debugger In Visual Studio.Net With Plumtree? 8f

    Is there anyway Plumtree could at least embed the remote portlet error message on the gadget or in the HTML of the gadget? The standard "There has been an error" gets rather old when trying to debug a remote portlet.
    Also, I'm not sure how you can start debugging on a remote portlet like you mention here. Just because break points are set in the application doesn't mean they will be stopped there when you launch the page from plumtree.
    The biggest problem is that you cannot debug remote portlets because of the very annoying "not gatewayed" error. I always have to spend a great deal of time creating default values for all plumtree code in order to move past those.
