I have a SBS 2011 server with Exchange 2010 and am trying to use ActiveSync on it for the first time. OWA and Outlook Anywhere works flawlessly, but ActiveSync fails when trying to configure it on a device.
I checked themailbox in Recipient Configurationand Exchange ActiveSync is Enabled.
I reran the Configure External Client Access Domain wizard, but it didn't resolve the issue.
I see the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync entry in IIS Manager.
However, I don't see an entry in EMC/Server Configuration/Client Access/Exchange ActiveSync. That tab is empty.
I also get a HTTP 500 response when running the ExRCA when it tries to establish an ActiveSync session.
I attempted to use the Exchange Shell to Create an Exchange ActiveSync Virtual Directory, but it already exists.
I suspect my issue is related to the OMA virtual directory being missing, but want to be sure of the steps to cleaning this up with minimal impact.

DB:3.93:Activesync Not Working On Exchange 2010 Sp1 ks

Well, sometimes you need to re-create the IIS virtual directories when you have problems with mobility services on your Exchange Server. And you can use the Reset Client Access Virtual Directory wizard to
reset a virtual directory on an Exchange Server 2010 Client Access server. When you reset a virtual directory, the virtual directory is removed and a new virtual directory with
    default settings is created.Noya Lau

    Hi all,
In our company I am running Exchange 2010. Users have their laptops with Outlook 2007/2010 and also have a mobile device (iPhone, Android and a few Blackberries).
On their mobile device the accounts are set up as an Exchange ActiveSync account and the user's emails, contacts and calendar is all synchronized.
For User A, we used to put his mobile number in the PhoneNumber attribute (property) in his active directory user. User Buse contacts synchronized from Exchange ActiveSync account on his smart phone to call User Aon his mobile number.
Now we changed the PhoneNumber attribute (property) in all active directory users to a landline telephone number so the call from ActiveSync will be targeted to that number. Our requirement isto make the mobile number attribute in AD is the
default so that when a user uses ActiveSync to call another user, the call will be targeted to that user mobile not his PhoneNumber attribute (property).
Kindly how can we achieve that?

    Hi,
I've been asked to fix a problem with an Exchange 2007 on Server 2008. I already searched hours for a solution but no avail... :(
I believe there is a problem with the Exchange itself, as well as the IIS.
On the Management Console - Server Configuration - Client Access - Exchange ActiveSync tab there is nothing.
On the PowerShell the command Get-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory provide empty results and the command New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory
provides the following vague error (which is not related to the Remote Registery as it is running):
    [PS] C:\Windows\System32New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory
New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory : An error occurred while creating the IIS virtu

    Any idea?

    DB:3.73:Exchange 2007 Activesync Missing 7m

    Hi,

Well... Problem finally resolved .. after too many sleepless nights :)

I eventually ended uninstalling Exchange CAS

    Then manually removing some of the objects from adsiedit.msc -configuration-cn=Configuration -cn=services-CN=Microsoft Exchange -cn=email-cn=admin group-cn=exchange admin group-cn=servers-cn=computer name-cn=protocols
    -cn=http click the icon cn=http

Then manually removed some of the virtual directories from IIS

After installing CAS again, all the virtual folders were created under Default Web Site and not under SBS Web Applications, so I followed this guide to correct the SBS 2008 virtual folders: http://microsofttoolbox.com/2009/12/how-to-recreate-exchange-virtual-directories

I had some insights during my search for solution:

    1. Do not try to uninstall IIS on SBS 2008 ever, although it might be a solution for not SBS.

    2. Run Exchange Management Shell in elevated mode

Thanks for your time, your directions helped to get a grip of the problem.

    Running Exchange 2007...

Trying to connect an iPhone to the CAS through ActiveSync, the iPhone doesn't give any certificate errors, but says:

Exchange account verification failed and I can't sync anything at all.

No errors are showing up in the event viewer on the CAS server.  It seems to be at least communicating with the CAS because the iPhone will display a certificate error if I try to connect after specifying 128-bit SSL on the CAS.  If I un-check 12-bit there's no error.

I only have the Default Exchange ActiveSync policy defined, and I have verified that a virtual directory existis on IIS called Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync.  Each user account I've tried has ActiveSync enabled.

Ports 993 and 443 are open, OWA works fine.
I'm assuming this is an easy one to fix, no?

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

It turns out that for some reson I needed to specify the External URL field when configuring the ActiveSync policy.  This is weird that it required this because I'm trying to use the default policy.  Doesn't it seem that this should have been done at the default install?

Very weird.  Specifying the external URL fixed it.

Does the iPhone work with Exchange 2003?

    DB:3.53:Iphone And Activesync z7

I was happily accessing my work's Exchange email after they enabled IMAP. They required me to VPN, but that hassle is worth full access to all my folders.

Until... just yesterday our IT dept had to turn off Exchange's IMAP support, it was causing the server to run out of memory, lots of problems.

I did some googling and apparently Exchange has had this type of problem with IMAP clients:

    http://www.paessler.com/blog/2006/08/17/ipcheck-server-monitor/analyzing-a-slow- exchange-2003-server/

    http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-6230-0.html?forumID=101threadID=204502message ID=2128667

Is anyone else experiencing Exchange memory usage problems with IMAP? Is it maybe being caused by the iPhone IMAP client?

Anyone happen to know some Exchange settings that need to be tweaked, so I can ask IT to turn IMAP back on?

Or is it time for iPhone users to unite against Microsofty corporate IT departments, stage walkouts, server room sit-ins, etc. until the iPhone gets the respect it deserves?

    Hello.
I'm an engineer working on activesync.
I have something to wonder about activesync versioning.
AFAIK, activesync version matches Exchange Server version.
Exchange 2003 uses activesync 12.0, Exchange 2007 uses activesync 12.1.
So...What about Exchage 2010? I couldn't find version information related to.

    DB:3.52:Activesync Protocol Version s3

I think that should be understood as the latest version supported by the server.
You really do need to read MS-ASHTTP for this protocol (in particular, sections 1.6, 1.7, 2.2.3 and 4.2).

    Hi
We are in coexistence (exchange 2013 2007)

    Here is my situation
    - Exchange 2007:
-- New user -- Activesync works
-- Existing user -- Activesync worked after coexistence implementation
    - Exchange 2013:
-- New user -- Activesync works

Problem is that iphones / androids don't work properly after the mailboxes get moved over from 2007 to 2013.!!!
Here are my activesync URLs. Would you please help?
Exchange 2007 ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory: legacy.domain.com (accessible outside)
    Exchange 2013-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory: mail.domain.com (accessible outside)

    DB:3.51:Active Sync Phones... 81

**** Important *** I revised my initial answer (Just in case you got the first email with old info)
If you have exchange 2010 then you MOST LIKELY won't have to deal with legacy.domain.com entires and $NULL adjustments
Problem was that I had my URLs setup incorrectly.
So what I had to do was set the old exchange external active sync URL to $NULL verify that external legacy.domain.com entry was pointing to exchange 2007 CAS mail.domain.com pointing to exchange 2013 CAS.

In exchange 2013/2010 coexistence most everything gets proxied over so as long as the mail.domain.com is pointed to 2013 then the 2010 mailbox traffic will get proxied over to 2010 (Obviously you need to have your URLs done properly)

    - Department or Company
    - Primarysmtpaddress
    - DeviceType
    - DeviceModel
    - DeviceOS
    - FirstSyncTime

If anyone has a script for this, I would be truly grateful.

This should get you started. In the event that some users might have multiple devices registered in the last thirty days for a single account, you'll need to add an additional if logic for $ActiveSyncInfo.Count (if gt 1 - foreach loop)
    $Mailboxes = Get-Mailbox -ResultSize unlimited
    $Date = Get-Date

    $CSVPath = c:\yoursavepathhere

    $CSVHeader = DisplayName,Department,PrimarySMTPAddress,DeviceType,DeviceModel,DeviceOS,FirstSyncTime,LastSuccessSync
    $CSVHeader | Out-File -FilePath $CSVPath -Encoding ASCII

    Foreach ($Mailbox in $Mailboxes)
    {
    $ActiveSyncInfo = $null
    $ActiveSyncInfo = Get-ActiveSyncDeviceStatistics -Mailbox $Mailbox | Where-Object {$_.LastSuccessSync -ge $Date.AddDays(-30)}

    If ($ActiveSyncInfo -ne $null)
    {
    $ADInfo = Get-ADUser -Identity $Mailbox -Properties Department

    $DisplayName = $Mailbox.DisplayName
    $Department = $ADinfo.Department
    $PrimarySMTP = $Mailbox.PrimarySmtpAddress
    $DeviceType = $ActiveSyncInfo.DeviceType
    $DeviceModel = $ActiveSyncInfo.DeviceModel
    $DeviceOS = $ActiveSyncInfo.DeviceOS
    $FirstSync = $ActiveSyncInfo.FirstSyncTime
    $LastSuccess = $ActiveSyncInfo.LastSuccessSync

    [String]$CSVAdd = $DisplayName , $Department , $PrimarySMTP , $DeviceType , $DeviceModel , $DeviceOS , $FirstSync , $LastSuccess
    $CSVAdd | Out-File -FilePath $CSVPath -Encoding ASCII -Append
    }

Hi: I have an SBS2003 sp2 server that currently has activesync enabled on a public IP. I need to force activesync to use SSL for public connections (or all connections) and disable NTLM which is currently enabled. Right now, if I disable NTLM on the exchange

I am in the process of upgrading my Exchange Org from 2003 to 2010. I have moved one mailbox to the 2010 server and now ActiveSync is not working for them.
I have just one Exchange 2003 server and one Exchange 2010 server hosting the Hub, CAS and Mailbox roles. I have configured the CAS role on my 2010 server I have created the legacy.domain.com, Autodiscover.domain.com and webmail.domain.com settings in my
internal DNS and configured the proper paths in the respective v-directories.
I have enabled Integrated Windows Authentication on the ActiveSynce v-directory on the 2003 server.

I was seeing Event ID 1053 and followed the instructions in KB
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2579075?wa=wsignin1.0 after doing this the user seemed to be able to connect to ActiveSync but no mail or anything downloaded to their phone.
Currently the External DNS entry for Exchange point to the firewall which NATs it to the Exchange 2003 server (We have not changed that to point to the new 2010 server yet) should we for ActiveSync to work for mailboxes on the 2010 server?
Also I configured the External URL on the ActiveSync Virtual directory to point to legacy.domain.com
ActiveSync is working for all the users who's mailbox is still on the 2003 server. The user with the mailbox on the 2010 servercan log in via Outlook and their mail, calander etc is all there and works. It says they connect to the ActiveSync but
no mail or anything is downloaded to the phone.
Could there be some setting I missing?
    Any help would be great!!

I currently run Exchange 2003 on a MS Server 2003 box as both the front and back end server. I have OWA working with SSL, and I am currently attempting to setup ActiveSync for mobile users. When I test the configuration with the Exchange Remote
Connectivity Analyzer, I receive HTTP error 500. Upon doing some reading, it appears that ActiveSync will not work if the IIS /Exchange virtual directory is set to use SSL. Does this mean that I cannot have OWA with SSL if I want to run ActiveSync
on the same system? I have tried disabling SSL on the /Exchange virtual directory, reset IIS, but I still cannot get ActiveSync working. I have gone through the process of rebuilding the Exchange virtual directories with no success. Any help

    DB:3.47:Exchange 2003 - Owa W/ Ssl And Activesync Issue 98

If you are using SSL for OWA (Forms Based Authentication), then you need to create an Exchange-OMA virtual Directory which doesn't have SSL enabled and to do this, you can follow KB817379 for the precise settings:

Enabling Outlook Web Access, Exchange ActiveSync, and Exchange Web Services Connectivity
Test-OwaConnectivity, Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity, and Test-WebServicesConnectivity are the cmdlets used by the Exchange Server 2007 Management Pack to test Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access, Exchange ActiveSync, and Exchange Web Services connectivity from Client Access servers to Mailbox servers. The cmdlets require that a test mailbox be created on each Exchange Server 2007 Mailbox server that is to be tested.
To create the test mailbox, log on to the Exchange Server 2007 Mailbox server with a user account that is both an Exchange administrator and an Active Directory administrator. Open the Exchange Management Shell, locate the Scripts directory under the installation path for Exchange Server 2007 (usually \Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts) and execute the script New-TestCasConnectivityUser.ps1. Repeat this process on each Exchange Server 2007 Mailbox server that is to be tested. Note that if you have several organizational units named Users in your directory, you will need to specify the organizational unit in which to store the user.

None of our windows devices are able to search the global address list through Activesync to an Exchange 2003 server.

The GAL is working fine with all our iPhones, but WinMo doesn't work; we get the error message:

Any ideas on how to approach this?

DB:3.42:Tmg Connectivity Verifiers Not Working 1c

I have TMG deployed at a customer for publishing Exchange 2010. I am having trouble with the Connectivity Verifiers. I created 3 Server Farms (one for OWA, one for ActiveSync and one for RPC) and each server farm was set to verify the specific virtual directory
in question. These farms are set to go to the actual servers themselves and not through the load balancer.

    OWA: https://*/owa/
    ActiveSync: https://*/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync/
    RPC: https://*/rpc/
At first, it seemed to work, but now those do not work at all, even though I can manually browse to those virtual directories from the TMG server. However, when I change the Connectivity verifiers to either the Ping method or Port method (443), the verifiers
work. Any ideas on why the other verifiers are not working?MCITP Exchange 2010 | MCTS Exchange 2007 | MCITP Lync Server 2010 | MCTS Windows 2008 | MCSE 2003

DB:3.42:Tmg Connectivity Verifiers Not Working 1c

It depends on what HTTP response you get back as to whether TMG sees it as healthy as described here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc441459.aspx
From memory, a connection to ActiveSync from a browser actually generates a '501 Not Implemented error', which TMG would interpret as a failed connection as it is not an expected success response.
You may have to use a single path for validation (like /owa) for all services, as at least you then know IIS is responding to the GET request which is better than ping or a 443 port request.

When we use Get-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory it returns the Internal and External URLs that we would expect.

Yes. What i did previously was name the Public Folder directory to .old. Then brought up a new Public Folder and i was trying to retire the server with the new public folder mounted. After I saw all that mail in the Queue i remounted
the original public folders, but I had to start with the .\movallreplicas.ps1 script all over again. So far, this didn't help as I can now see most of the folders under the IPM_SUBTREE again. I did a system state backup of my DC and I'm going to
remove the public folder directory via ADSI edit.

Hoping i can get some clarity on if this is possible...
In my environment we allow activesync of iOS devices and with that it provides them exchange email, calendar, reminders and contacts.

We are running an exchange 2007 environment.
We are planning to populate the user accounts in Active Directory with images of each user... so that when they use outlook 2010 they can see who they are connecting with...
My question is...once the accounts have images on them...will those images for each contact in ad push down to the iOS devices that sync via activesync to our exchange network....currently we do not see any images for any exchange contact on any iOS devices
and were wondering if there was anything extra we would need to do for the iOS contacts to show an image for each exchange contact...or if it is even possible.
    Thanks!!!

    DB:3.39:Ios Contact Picture ck

Thank you both for your input, i was hoping that we would get a win on that leveraging AD images on user accounts.

I had tried the method that
Jon-Alfred Smithsuggested in his reply, regarding using the local address book. I'm hoping in future iOS releases that they give us the ability to sync that property of AD.

I did find a helpful breakdown from Wikipedia...however accurate i do not know but thought i would share...looks like Microsoft reserves GAL image luv for their devices only :)

    Hello,
We are in the process of migrationg Exchange 2007 to exchange 2010. During the process to need to publish OWA/Activesync on 2010 while keeping OWA/Activesync 2007. We have use ISA 2006 to publish both and we use FBA with RSA authentication. We use two separate
certs and we are not getting a SAN.
    Here is the current env:
    OWA 2007 is: mail.domain.com
    Activesync is: activesync.domain.com

Weblistner on ISA for OWA: Use HTML FBA with RSA secureID Firewall rule for OWA: Nodelegation but client may autheticate Weblistner for Activesync: Use HTML FBA with windows active directory Firewall rule for ActiveSync: Nodelegation but client may autheticate CAS is configured to use basic aithentication for OWA.
Wehave legacymail.domain.com and legacyActivesync.domain.com certs applied to the legacy 2007. We followed
    http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/11/20/453272.aspx and
http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/12/17/453625.aspx but we get the FBA authetication twice and therfore the redirection of 2007 users through the publish OWA 2010 is not smooth. Has
    anybody done this scenario successfully?

    DB:3.36:Publishing Owa/Activesync 2010 On Isa 2006 With Rsa pc

    Mike,
That is going to be tough becuase you have to load the UC Cert but you can only do that for a single server within a specific publishing rule. I have done this with clustered CAS arrays but only when it was a single cert for an array hosting the same information.
So your internal users can go to the 2007 box and be redirected to 2010 without the second prompt for credentials? I would agree that you need to configure the Authentication Delegation setting to 'no delegation, but my client may authenticate directly'.
Then select 'All Users' as the TMG Rule that doesn't enforce Pre-authentication.
Now, one thing I would highly recommend it lookint into replacing your ISA farm with TMG as ISA is a few cycles behind. I am sure you have a lot on your plate with the current upgrade, just a thought :)

    Hi Gavin.
In Exchange 2013, outlook anywhere is now the default connection method for internal and external clients. Do you need to publish EWS to the public in order to get Outlook anywhere of OWA or Active Sync to be operational?
What if you don't make EWS accessible from these internet clients?
    Thanks for the feedback.

    Hi
We have introduced Exchange 2013 servers in our existing Exchange 2007 environment. We have a customized Exchange 2007 ActiveSync setup i:e we created a custom separate website in IIS for ActiveSync to serve the ActiveSync devices. After the introduction
of Exchange 2013 CAS servers, when we installed the new certificate on them and configured the virtual directory with ActiveSync URLs, the Exchange 2013 servers seems to be receiving Activesync requests but they can't just proxy it to Exchange 2007 for some
reason. following Warning is logged on Exchange 2013 servers:

[Eas] Marking ClientAccess 2010 server MIA-EXCAS01.utg.uvn.net (https://mia-excas01.utg.uvn.net/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync) as unhealthy due to exception: System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable.
    at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
    at Microsoft.Exchange.HttpProxy.ProtocolPingStrategyBase.Ping(Uri url)

We still need to install new Certificate on the Exchange 2007 servers. Wondering what could be the issue here, can Exchange 2013 proxy the connection to Exchange 2007 on a custom website ? or it looks for one under Default Website?
Can the absence of new certificate (meaning certificate mismatch) lead to this issue?

    Thanks

So we have a 2010 / 2013 environment and I think this is the same thing. Would the legacy.xx.yyy need to have an external DNS or would this be all done internally? Also we have a primary CAS 2010 and that proxies to all other exchange 2010
servers. I would assume that we would only need to make this change on the primary CAS that they all filter through. Through our 2010 enviroment, theAutodiscoverInternalURI
was only ever set on the primary CAS while the other nodes were set to their local name.William Lee

Hi, I've got an SBS 2011 server where exchange active sync is not working.

If I run the fix my network option in the SBS Console then it says that Exchange SMTP connectors are invalid and when I try to fix it, it says The server cannot connect the SMTP connectors. Ensure that Exchange is running, and

If I go to EMCServer ConfigClient Access and then click on the Exchange Activesync tab it's empty.
If I go to IIS then under default website there is a virtual directory called Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync.

    Hello,
Having a problem since installing Update Rollup 4 on Exchange 2010 SP3 servers. The ActiveSync proxy for remote CAS servers is not proxying the connections. In the event logs on the internet facing CAS server, I'm seeing the following:
    Log: Application
    Source:MSExchange ActiveSync

    Level: Warning
The Client Access server doesn't have the InternalURL value set for the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual directory. This prevents Exchange ServiceDiscovery from finding the MobileSyncService information for user remoteCASfqdn. At
least one Client Access server in the user's mailbox Active Directory site must have the InternalURL value set. The format for the InternalURL value is https://hostname/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync.
I have verified the InternalURL is currently configured correctly. This worked without issue up until the install up Update Rollup 4. I have tried removing the value and re-entering it, rebooting, IISReset, but nothing works. Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

    DB:3.32:Activesync Cross-Site Proxy sf

    Hi Jessica,

The settings you mention for the ActiveSync directory are the default (Basic Enabled, Windows Disabled), and the subfolder Proxy has Windows Enabled by default as well. So it sounds like you are using the default settings.
Like everyone else, I also am unable to proxy requests to another site unless the InternalURL is set to the FQDN of the server, rather than our load balancer. I wonder if it's a Kerberos issue or something; perhaps SetSPN is needed.

Yes, either through static NAT (all ports), or generic or reverse proxies

    (specific ports).

You will need to open up filter exceptions for either possibility, and

I was running the Exchange remote connectivity analyzer to test connectivity to a 2010 Exchange server. I received an error that the OPTIONS command was not successful.I checked IIS and enabled NTLM (Windows) authentication for the ActiveSync virtual directory and ran the ERCA tool to test again. This time, ActiveSync passes the test but I get a warning that NTLM is not an allowed authentication method with ActiveSync. Is there a happy medium where I can turn off NTLM (get rid of the warning) and allow the OPTIONS command to work?

This was fixed by either putting the default domain and realm as the NETBIOS name and/or ignoring client certificates (I made both changes based on a post in Experts Exchange) and then I was able to uncheck NTLM authentication, and ERCA is happy and the OPTIONS command works.

I'm trying to replace an Exchange 2003 front-end Server with an Exchange 2007 CAS (running on Win 2008 Server).  The back-end will remain as Exchange 2003 and OWA and ActiveSync clients connect through an ISA Server SP1 box.

I can configure it all to work absolutely fine with OWA, it worked fine first time.  However, when I try and get ActiveSync to play ball it just consistently gives me a 405 method not allowed error.  I've configured Integrated Windows Authentication on the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual directory on the backend server, the firewall rules check out and I'm at a total loss as to what it going on.

When I test it using a browser I can see a successful logon occuring on the backend server, but then I see the 405 error logged in the IIS logs of the CAS.

Now with just the pure Exchange 2003 environment ActiveSync works fine and if I add the Mailbox Role to the Exchange 2007 Server and create a mailbox on it which is enabled for ActiveSync, I can connect to that mailbox fine using ActiveSync.

So the error is clearly something to do with the mixed environment - can anyone shed any light on this?

Basic Authentication is not enabled for the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual directory in IIS. It is enabled in the Exchange Management Console but when I go into IIS Manager and go into Authentication for Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync, the option to enable
Basic Authentication does not even show up in the list I only have Anonymous, ASP.NET, Forms Windows Authentication. How do I get that option added back in?

DB:3.29:Basic Authentication Missing As An Option To Enable In Iis For The Microsoft-Server-Activesync Virtual Directory fc

Apparently Basic Authentication was not installed for IIS. I went into add roles for IIS and installed it and I am good to go now.

    DB:3.29:Iphone And Exchange Get-Activesyncdevicestatistics. 1k

We are trying to get the phone numbers of the mobile devices that are using ActiveSync to sync email with our Exchange Servers. Exchange includes a commandlet called Get-ActiveSyncDeviceStatistics that returns information about each mobile device including its phone number. This is a convenient way to compile a company directory. Unfortunately this information is blank for all iPhones. I'm assuming that the implementation of the ActiveSync protocol in the iPhone is simply not providing this information to the Exchange server.

Does anybody know if this is something that can be enabled, and if not, is Apple planning on providing this information to the Exchange servers in a future version?

    DB:3.29:Iphone And Exchange Get-Activesyncdevicestatistics. 1k

Thanks for your reply. I am familiar with that tool. While it is a handy way to get a list of mobile devices it does not resolve my primary problem of iPhone devices not providing phone numbers to Exchange.

The Mobile Admin tool gets device information from the same source as the Get-ActiveSyncDeviceStatistics commandlet, and so the information that they display will be the same.

    Hello,

Do you configure the proxy or Redirection for the ActiveSync users in other site?

    From the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb310763.aspx

    We could know:

If the user's mailbox is on an Exchange 2010 Mailbox server in a different Active Directory site, CAS-01 locates a Client Access server in the same Active Directory site as the
user's Mailbox server. CAS-01 determines whether any Exchange 2010 Client Access server in that Active Directory site has the ExternalURL property configured on the Exchange ActiveSync virtual directory. If so, CAS-01 issues the client an HTTP error code 451
that contains the ExternalURL value and instructs the client to redirect to that location. If no ExternalURL value is set, the connection will be proxied to the Client Access server using the FQDN specified by the InternalURL property, specifically to the
/Proxy virtual directory. This virtual directory is located beneath the Exchange ActiveSync virtual directory in IIS and, by default, has Integrated Windows authentication enabled on it.

Note: Proxying isn't possible between virtual directories that use Basic authentication. For client communications to be proxied between Exchange ActiveSync virtual directories
on different servers, the /Proxy virtual directory must use Integrated Windows authentication.

Please check if the settings mentioned above are correct. You can also refer to the IIS log to see the detailed error code to help the troulbehsooting.

    DB:3.27:Activesync Windows 7 85010015 Error z7

    Hi All,

So we've got a strange issue with some new HTC HD7 Windows Mobile 7 phones connecting to our Exchange 2007 ActiveSync service. We have the following setup...
    IAG in DMZ Publishing ActiveSync
Two Exchange 2007 SP2 Client Access Servers
    A CCR Exchange 2007 SP2 Mailbox Cluster

ActiveSync works fine for the Nokia E61's that the standard userbase has. Furthermore I've used both ActiveSyncTester.exe and the Microsoft web site
https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/to confirm that the user with the HTC is enabled and ActiveSync works. But whenever two users try to use their Windows Mobile 7 devices they both recieve
error 85010015. Doing some digging on the internet I've found that rollup 3 is required but as we are already on SP2 I don't think this is relevant.
The only other advise I have found was to recreate the ActiveSync virtual directory as per

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobileactivesync/thread/78a370f4-8204-427b-a4d7-ab0231756b83but with the rest of the user base working without issue it is a tough change to explain.
Any advice is welcome, if you need more detail please let me know,

    Dave

    DB:3.27:Activesync Windows 7 85010015 Error z7

    Morning SR_,

So I worked it out in the end. It is working with mobile.company.com, the name should not matter as it just depends on the IAG/Exchange configuration.
The issues was down to the HTC HD7 not being able to handle the company EAS policy. Even though the policy was not locked down it was at the stage where this tried to apply that all the errors occured. I found the following article...
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/exchange-activesync-considerations-when-using-windows-phone-7-clients.aspx
Which detailed which policies could couldn't be applied and then created a seperate non-default policy for the user with the settings required. Once applied the user could sync both calendar and mail without error.

Thanks for your help in troubleshooting,

    Dave

Event ID: 3031 Source: Server Activesync and the message is: the mailbox server (my BE Server) does not allow Negotiate authentication to its [exchange] virtual directory. Exchange activesync can only access the server using this authentication scheme. There is some problem with virtual directory settings i guess, please help me out! Regards, Maverick

DB:3.22:Questions To The Exchange 2007 Web Directories f7

    Hello

I'm pretty unsure, how to configure all these Web directory. What I would like to do: Using Exchange Server 2007 on Server 2008. I would like to use the Autodiscover, ActiveSync (Win Mobile 6.x) and Outlook Anywhere (no plans for UM...). To secure this, we will buy a UCCertificate from GoDaddy. For this cmdlets I have some questions:

    Set-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory

DB:3.22:Questions To The Exchange 2007 Web Directories f7

include all names/urls that clients will use to connect to CAS with. that is often ickl. all names,NETbios and internal FQDN.

Yes, set both internal and externalurl.internal is probably best to se to internalFQDN (if you dont have a load balancer in front)
and the externalurl to the url used from Internet. dont forget to add /autodiscover/autodiscover.xml at the of the url's

DB:3.22:Iphone Activesync Not Working In Coexistence 87

Hi, I am really hoping someone can help with this.
I am currently running in 2003 2010 coexistence but my iPhone / ActiveSync users are not getting redirected to their 2003 mailboxes.
OWA works fine for all external users.
I have tried to leave the external URL blank for ActiveSYnc - as a recommended workaround I read but this doesnt work.
I am getting the following event ID

    Log Name: Application
    Source: MSExchange ActiveSync
    Date: 04/11/2011 11:11:53
    Event ID: 1036
    Task Category: Configuration
    Level: Warning
    Keywords: Classic
    User: N/A
    Computer: CAS01
    Description:
The Client Access server cannot proxy the Exchange ActiveSync client request to the Exchange server 2003FRONTEND. For this to work, Integrated Windows authentication must be configured on the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual directory on the Exchange
    server 2003FRONTEND
I have applied the fix associated with this to both of my backend Exchange as well as the FE and made the change to integrated Authentication.

Is there anything else I am missing as this stillisn'tworking.

I am also getting Event ID 1033.
1033 - The setting external proxy in the web.config file not valid

    Many thanks for your help.

DB:3.22:Activesync Error On Single Mailbox pp

    Hi all,
I have Exchange 2010 patched up and have a problem with a single user accessing ActiveSync.... everyone else is fine. The user is an domain administrator as he's our web developer.
    The error is thus:
Exchange ActiveSync doesn't have sufficient permissions to create the CN=UserName,OU=NonSynchUsers,OU=CAB,DC=DOMAIN,DC=local container under Active Directory user Active Directory operation failed on DC3.DOMAIN.local. This error is not retriable. Additional
    information: Access is denied.
    Active directory response: 00000005: SecErr: DSID-03152492, problem 4003 (INSUFF_ACCESS_RIGHTS), data 0
    .
Make sure the user has inherited permission granted to domain\Exchange Servers to allow List, Create child, Delete child of object type msExchActiveSyncDevices and doesn't have any deny permissions that block such operations.

I am reluctant to make any changes to the domain as per KB as it's only he that has the problem.
    Any advice?
    TIA,
    M

DB:3.21:Exchange 2010 - Outlook Anywhere - Copy Rpc Virtual Directory To New Website xa

I need to have Outlook Anywhere on a different website to the Default Web Site to cater for a client's specific security requirement. I also had to do this for ActiveSync, and did so using New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory –WebSiteName “websitename”
–ExternalURL https://externalurl/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync”; however I am unable to find a way to do this same task for Outlook Anywhere. Would simply re-creating the virtual directory in the new website within IIS work in this case?

DB:3.21:Exchange 2010 - Outlook Anywhere - Copy Rpc Virtual Directory To New Website xa

Outlook Anywhere will use RPC and RPCwithCertthese twodirectories. Teyare created when you install the RPC Proxy component through Windows Features. It is part of IIS. There is no cmdlet to reset these two VDs via EMS
I think maybe you create the same VDs on the new website, modify the website ports, change the external host name of Outlook Anywhere, modify the SCP xml for autodiscover, then it may work. But I never test
it and I also suggest don't do this.
You can have a test on your labJack Zhou - MSFT

Youre right. The event will occur if theres any corruption in calendar, and your method is exactly the way to solve this symptom. Glad

    Hi,

    Hi everyone,

I have been banging my head over this problem all weekend, and havent got anywhere.
I have an Exchange 2007 Server with SP1 and OWA is working just fine.

    However Activesync isnt.

I keep getting a permissions related error: 0x85010004

I have the Activesync directory in IIS with Basic Authetication permissions, so I really dont know whats wrong.

    Any help is welcome

    Cheers

    DB:3.21:No Permisson.. m7

Hi Dennis Thank you for your answer.

An update on this situation: I have reached the conclusion that it is no an SSL issue, because it was in fact working well on OWA and any PC with the certificate. What was wrong was the EAS (Exchange Activesync) policy that I created on EMC (Exchange Management Console). Seems that if I activate any new feature of SP1 that requires a CAL it automaticaly says the user has no permissions. So one question, when I buy a CAL how do I install/implement it? And will it work then? Thanks in advance Nuno

    Hi guys,
We are running Exchange 2003 SP2 and OWA works fine. When using testexchangeconnectivity.com i getExchange ActiveSync returned an HTTP 500 response.
Any ideas? I have tried making sure that allow inheritable permissions is checked and also make sure that on the integrated authentication is checked on the /Exchange virtual directory.
Need to get this working so any help would be appreciated!...

    Hi,
Could you access the mailbox through
    https://www.domain.com/exchange?
Most of these problems are caused by the incorrect settings in exchange virtual directories. Please try to reset the settings in exchange virtual directories:

DB:3.21:Windows Mobile 6.5 Activesync Doesnt Work After Certificate Update sx

I have an HTC Touch 2 that was previously configured for Exchange Activesync and was working properly until I had to update the certificate on the Exchange server and the phone. The error I get on the phone is support code 0x80072F17. From my research,
this error means that my certificate is not trusted and I need to install my root cert on the phone. I did this and it still doesn't work. Per some other forums, I rebuilt the ActiveSync Virtual Directory to no avail. I also use the Microsoft Testexchangeconnectivity
website and the ACtiveSync test passes. Right now I'm at a loss. This same certificate is working fine on a bunch of iPhones, it's just this lone Windows Mobile device that doesn't work.

DB:3.21:Windows Mobile 6.5 Activesync Doesnt Work After Certificate Update sx

Are you sure you are using the correct certificate ?

The certificate your browser will see when connecting to https://owa.mycompany.com/ is not necessarily the same if you connect from your corporate network (company computer) or if you connect from an external network (home internet connection, mobile
    phone 3G connection, ...).
