Recording problems on New Look BT Vision

    Hi all

We’re aware that New Look BT Vision has a software problem which affects stability and causes recordings to fail for some customers. We understand this is really frustrating, sorry for the inconvenience.

The software in the New Look Vision Set Top Box is being affected by changes on the Freeview network including Digital switchover, channel moves, and channel re-names which cause one of the set top box tuners to lock and not respond when a recording is due to start.

A reboot unlocks the tuner so if you turn the box off at the mains and switch it back on it will help to avoid these problems. The problem can reoccur later following another Freeview change.

We know there are Freeview changes on 12th and 17th October that will cause this problem for some customers. This could affect any customer on our New Look BT Vision base. Each time a Freeview change is made, we see a spike in recording failures and crashes.

We need to rollout new STB software. We have this software under test but cannot say yet when it will be deployed. Fixing this issue is the highest priority in BT Vision and the fix will be rolled out as soon as possible.

    Thanks

    Stuart

DB:2.99:Amazingly Ludicrous Support From Bt ac

After putting up with the freezing and rebooting issues and resetting with no difference, I finally caved and called BT. To my relief I spoke to someone in the same country at least.First of all they said they'd send a you view box replacement, spouting how much more superior it is to bt vision. I explained that we have the Sky Sports subscription. Oh we're not licensed to broadcast these channels on you view. That scuppered plan A.Next was to reset the white box, infinity hub and factory reset the vision box. It rebooted by itself while doing the channel scan.I pushed the issue as I have seen so many complaints of a similar nature. Adviser said that it is related to the channels accessed via broadband. I know that, I had noticed that the problems happen on gold and sky sports. Then said BT don't supply vision boxes to new customers anymore. Fine I said but what happens when the new customer wants the sky sports add on, apparently only available via bt vision? Oh we have a few left that we send out. What?!?End result is a replacement bt vision box (presumably from the spares pile). Oh, and turn off all wifi devices if I want to watch gold or sky sports. I'm not entirely convinced that is an answer bt... !So does this all come down to bt not knowing what to do about customers with sky sports? Are they looking to kill the contract and provide substandard bt sport only via you view boxes? I cannot think why they are dragging their feet so badly over this 'known issue' as the adviser calls it.

DB:2.99:Amazingly Ludicrous Support From Bt ac

Well since I posted here the box has been worse if anything. Reboots daily, menu freeze up on first use. Coupled with the absolute nonsense spouted by the 'advisor' for half hour on the phone, I'm thinking BT don't have a clue. Awaiting so called new replacement box on Weds - I had asked for it to he sent to work address but after ten mins the woman gave up trying to input my address, so I hope it turns up with the neighbour at least. BT have been very quick to send out a letter demanding the return of the old box of course, threatening to charge me for it!!

    Hi guys,

I have tried power cycling all the devices to resolve the following.

I have a BT Home Hub v2 Type B which when streaming content (downloading, eg. BBC iPlayer) through any device on wireless it stops working for all wireless devices, requiring a reset to enable wireless activity.

Also I have a BT Vision box that won't update the channels, it just gets stuck at 0%. Also the Vision box is very slow to respond and on demand programmes keep stuttering - they haven't for 1 year, why now?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

OK so it seems that BT have some equipment problems. sigh.

How would I perform a factory reset on the Vision box?

Maybe BT could give us all Home Hub 3s

Signed up before August got a BT Vision box working through Power Adaptors, I am in an infinity area so get the Sport fine. The box is fine occassional teething problems but works well, looking to recommend to a neighbour, what box would they get, as i hear the Vision box is being discontinued? Also what happens when my contract excpires do I get a You view box?

DB:2.88:Bt Vision You View Box da

There are some minor differences between the catch-up/on-demand services on the BT Vision+ box and BT Youview box, but in general the two main differences are as follows.

    (1) The BT Youview box hasn't got a viewing card slot so requires Infinity to receive the BT Sport channels. This is not an issue if your neighbour is on Infinity and can receive the sports/extra channels over the broadband connection. The BT coverage checker should confirm this.

    (2) BT can't currently offer Sky Sports 12 on the BT Youview box. This is due to ongoing negotiations between Sky and BT and an Ofcom decision is awaited this winter. If your neighbour wanted Sky Sports on BTTV right now then the BT Vision+ box is the only option. (That's the reason I'm still stuck on a BT Vision+ box.)

The BT Youview box is the newer, better box. In theory BT will only now send out BT Vision+ boxes to new customers if there is a specific reason such as one of the two above. Some customers in the last month or so received BT Vision+ boxes due to a shortage of BT Youview boxes, but they were told they would be upgraded as soon as a Youview box became available.

Your contract doesn't expire after 12 months (as zulu17 explained) though any cheap discounts might do. After the 12 months minimum term it's up to you whether or not you take out a new contract and get any new discounts or just carry on with the existing contract. If on a new contract the BT Youview box for £49 would be an option (£299 otherwise). You own the BT Vision+ box after 12 months and can carry on using that if you want to whether you sign a new contract or not.

    Hi

I've just signed up for BT phone, broadband and vision and the first two are working fine however I can't set up BT vision as I get the C03 error message. The service should have activated on Friday 15th April but today is the 17th.

I called BT and followed the automated help steps to turn off the hub then the vision box etc and it still didn't work. I rang back to speak to someone on the helpdesk but every time I chose the speak to someone option I got a message saying the technical helpdesk was closed then the line is cut off (the number I rang was 0800 111 4567).

I then logged onto the BT website and searched for solutions to the C03 error and followed the same steps again to turn off the hub vision box etc but still had the same problem.

I tried to contact BT help again on the phone but was met with the same 'techincal helpdesk is closed' message (this was at 8.45pm and according to the website it's open 7-midnight 7 days a week. I decided that I'd email the problem through instead (I've not had anything back apart from the acknowledgement email as yet).

I decided to try to contact BT help via the phone again this morning and rang between 5-10 times to see if I could actually speak to someone instead of keep getting the 'technical help desk is closed' message and finally got through to someone after choosing all the options that had nothing to do with BT Vision TV! She was helpful enough and said she would transfer me internally to the technical department - and guess what....I got the recorded message again saying the techincal help desk was closed! So I called again and spoke to someone else, explained that I kept getting the message that the BT vision technical helpdesk was closed so he said he would transfer me.....after 3-4 mins on hold listening to classical music I decided to hang up.

Can someone please help! I would be happy if I could actually get through to a helpdesk to speak to someone but I can't and I'm getting frustrated! If I didn't know how good BT vision on demand was I'd have cancelled my order by now but I'm persevering.

    Thanks

I have finally left BT after first joining them in 1980. I have moved phone, broadband and voip to PlusNet, which I believe is owned by BT.

There are three reasons for leaving. Firstly, in my opinion, BT provide an expensive service with lots of frills, I want a high-quality less-expensive service with no frills. Secondly BT's practice of trying to force me to pay be direct debit by inventing a company and then associating costs with it just to process my bill. Thirdly BT's seemingly inability to understand what a service is.

Apart from this forum, BT have never be able to support me through their help system as I do not have any MS Windows computers at home. Equally I have had no need of their virus checkers or child protection service. In addition, I do not use their routers. Also, I cannot receive Freeview TV off-air - I use FreeSat, so I don't want BT Vision. I thought, therefore, I was being charged for much more than I need.

Last Christmas, I explained all this to BT and they gave me a reasonable discount for a 1 year contract. I was led to understand that this was a fixed term and price contract. BT then raised the price on 2 occasions during the contract. While I accept BT agreed (on the telephone) that they had broken their side of the contract I could not understand their behaviour - this is NOT service.

The final impetus to move came when the contract ended and BT sent me a bill for almost double what I was expecting. So it seemed better to move to a lower cost service with less frills where I didn't have to renegotiate terms every year.

Moving to PlusNet has not been without its problems. BT gave me my MAC address in seconds. Then my router didn't connect straight away, e-mail didn't work properly and I couldn't connect to the voip service. I was able to resolve these problems by talking to the PlusNet support team. This has been relatively painless. They also confirm everything by e-mail.

Now I am just waiting for my final bill from BT, it takes about 5 days apparently. They have sent me several letters indicating that I no longer receive telephone line or broadband services from them.

That's probably why they have reduced the number of streams to one, but the absence of a red button link on BTV is more likely to be down to the box, given that Freeview TVs still get it (except on HD channels).

The red button stream is available via the BTV box on Freeview channel 301, though the box doesn't support the teletext as TVs do.

DB:2.69:Bt Vision - Review Of Moving From Bt Vision + To Y... ck

I've been having a few issues with BT recently. It all started when we moved home and it seems I must have spent hours on the phone to try and sort out relevant issues and problems with the phone, broadband and Vision. Everything was sorted as of last week.

However on Tuesday morning something terrible happened we were hit by a bolt of lightening which brought down the chimney into the front and back garden and also through the conservatory. We also lost part of the roof. At the same time every electrical item that was plugged in whether protected by surge plugs or not has stopped working. This included our BT Broadband and Vision.

I'd like to thank the mods for their help and quick response and phonecalls of support. They arranged for engineers to come around on Saturday to fix the broadband. They rang me every day with an update. The two engineers were excellent who fixed the broadband and even sat outside the house until it was all fixed.

I also phoned BT Vision seperately. They said they could not send me a new box or home plugs and an engineer had to visit. I arranged for him to come on Saturday afternoon.

Engineer was running late so he arrived around 5pm which wasn't the problem. He took one look at the Vision box and agreed it had been struck by lightening and was unsafe to plug in along with the home plugs. The smell was still present where everything was fused.

Then came the unexpected bit of news. A new BT Vision + box would cost me £99 or I could order a Youview box for £49. I was out of contract. At no point did anyone let me know about this. Apparently if your Vision + box is damaged by flooding or an electrical strike it would cost £99 to replace. News to me!

We then discussed the cheapest option which was to get a Youview box for £49. I had assumed it would be a simple replacement. To be honest having lost everything even with insurance it's hard spending money we haven't got.

The Vision engineer said "no problem" get BT Vision on the phone and try and get them to agree to activate a Youview box. He had one in the van he could give me but needed permission from BT to set it up.

17.15 - Engineer dialled BT for me.

17.25 - After around 10 minutes on hold spoke to someone who said they needed to transfer me after explaining.

17.40 - After around 15 minutes on hold explained the situation struck by lightning BT Vision Engineer here. Has box needs permission to put one in. Said they couldn't help and transfered me again

17.55 - After another 15 minutes on hold Spoke to my third person and explained the situation. This time the lady said I needed a Box swap and she would transfer me to the right department

18.20 - Around 25 minutes on hold got through to the right department. Spoke to the advisor who put me on hold to speak to her manager. five minutes later came back with the news. He couldn't help as the department that he needed to speak to had gone home at 6pm. Also he would need to order one and could not just authorise a Youview box for me.

I had to tell the nice BT engineer that was here thanks but no joy. He told me that without BT he couldn't give me the Youview box.

I've been with BT Vision since 2010. I've enjoyed the service but they make it so hard to contact them. So hard to sort out the simplest thing.

I'm writing this as I now have a choice about whether it would be easier to get Sky in and not BT. At least it might be simpler speaking to Sky than it is BT. BT must have various computer order systems but none it seems are joined up.

BT why are you making it so hard. If I go with BT Youview I now have to wait for the an engineer appointment probably at the weekend to actually get a service which I am still paying for.

This isn't a BT bashing post I'm writing this more in the hope that someone will read this and it will help change things for futue customers.

I have had BT vision for 2 years, I called to ask to add Sky Sports 1 2 at the weekend and was told it was not available in my area as I can't have freeview? The lady at BT couldn't understand why i had BT Vision when I "apparently" don't receive the channels. I explained I DO receive all freeview channels without any problems and always have done! The lady I spoke too didn't seem to believe i could watch the channels.

My neighbour a few doors down also has BT Vision and and has both Sky Sports channels and a friend about 10mins away also has the Sky Sports through Vision, so what the BT adviser told me doesn't really make sense, if they can have it, why can't I?

    Can anyone help????

Or not, as is the case today...

Have been busy all day so have finally sat down at 11pm to watch today's Bahrain GP.

Despite my BT Vision box being set to "Reccord series" for every day, channel etc... nothing.

OK, Plan B. BBC iPlayer. "Coming soon". Oh.

Am writing this whilst effortlessly watching the GP highlights on my iPhone iPlayer (with subtitles, also beyond the wit of the BT box), currently musing how long overdue the termination of our BT Vision contract is... maybe they'll take our VCR away also...

Not true, but I understand your frustration. The iPlayer application is purely the responsibility of the BBC. From the content of the programmes, to the picture quality, to the actual stability of the application. Or should that be instability.

And if you think our BBC iPlayer version is bad, you should read the posts on the Freesat forums re BBC iPlayer. It hardly works at all! So bad is it, in fact, the BBC issued a statement to say, basically "we're working on it".

So the poor nature of the application on both Freesat and IPTV is purely down to the BBC and no other.

We have just moved house and finally have a new line installed today after over 2 months waiting.

Our Vision Box and Hub all worked fine in the last house.

We have a silver Vision+ box and a black HH 2.0

They are connected by a brand new ethernet cable - running along the outside of the house.

It's plugged in to Port 1 of the HH.

The Vision Box keeps saying connection failure.

    Suggestions anyone?

DB:2.66:Bt Vision Box Connection Failure za

If the box is connected to the hub, you should get a steady green, and a flashing orange, light on the back of the Vision box, where the ethernet cable plugs in.

There's a possibility that BT have forgotten to transfer your Vision account to the new line. The old silver boxes won't boot without a connection to BT's servers, and that requires an active Vision account.

Welcome to the forum Neil. It sounds like you're on the new look interface, which seems to have some serious bugs in it. Lots of others on here are suffering similar problems. We're told (unofficially) that they will be fixed, but who knows when. So, in the meantime, phone up and demand a refund of this months subscription... others have got one, so why should you pay for this not-fit-for-purpose service?

DB:2.66:Bt Vision V04 Error After Upgrading To Bt Infinity z8

    The situation:

Before last Thursday we had a BT Internet ADSL account with BT Vision. Everything worked fine, although our download speed was only about 2.5Mb. On Thursday we were upgraded to BT Infinity. We now have very fast Internet access - around 35Mb download and 8Mb upload - but since the upgrade, BT Vision has stopped working. It reports a V04 error immediately whenever we try to watch any BT Vision on-demand programme or film, although BBC iPlayer on the BT Vision box still works fine.

We have called BT support about this, but they seem to think that our internet connection isn't fast enough to support BT Vision and there must be a problem with our line. We have pointed out that the internet speed is MUCH faster than it was before when everything was working fine (how can 35Mb be too slow when 2.5Mb was plenty fast enough?) but they can't seem to get past this and just want us to continually reboot the Home Hub and run speed tests on a PC. To make matters worse, the BT speed tester they want us to use never seems to work properly, and this only further convinces them that our line is too slow.

To give some idea of how "slow" our line now is, we can stream HD content from YouTube and BBC iPlayer on our PCs over wireless connections without buffering. Other speed testers such as www.speedtest.net currently report 37Mb down, 8Mb up, 15ms ping and 0% packet loss. As I mentioned before, even the BT Vision box itself has no problems streaming programmes from BBC iPlayer. So why have the other BT Vision services stopped working when we upgraded?

We thought we were actually making progress on Saturday, when we finally managed to get someone to check our account rather than blame our line speed or ask us to reboot the router yet again. We were then told that something called "quality of service" wasn't switched on, that they would switch it on and call us back either later that day or early the next day. But when the call eventually came this evening it was back to square one. "Has your broadband speed improved? Can we run a speed test?"...and BT VisionSTILL doesn't work.

This is all getting very frustrating and slightly worrying. How do we go about getting our BT Vision service back and are we going to get our BT Vision subscription refunded for the time we are unable to access the service?

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Any advice on where to go from here would be appreciated!

DB:2.66:Bt Vision V04 Error After Upgrading To Bt Infinity z8

Hmm, this doesn't fill me with confidence. We've recently got both vision+ and infinity and the On-Demand side is appalling tbh. I was rather hoping it was just whilst the line settles - as they always warn you - however whenever the On-Demand is playing up I can run a speedtest and never achieve less than 18mb so doubt its really the connection at issue. I'll leave it until the 10days passes just to see if that makes a difference, doubt it though.

Just an aside, for everyone who struggles to get acceptable help via the call centre in wherever, an old trick I always used in the past with different companies was to just go to cancellations, almost guaranteed to speak to someone in the UK who generally gets to the route a lot quicker as they try to retain your custom.

I've finally decided to ditch BT Vision and get Sky HD.

I loved the Replay feature on Vision but the rest of the on demand content just didn't seem to be worth the bother (Picture Box was a complete waste of space). Add to that the dreadful bit rate of ESPN on Freeview, constant sound problems on HDMI (and even SCART sometime!) and the long wait for terrestrial HD over here in Northern Ireland and the decision was made for me.

I'm keeping BT BB though as I like the 802.11n router and I've heard bad things about Sky BB.

All in all, it's a bit of a shame that BT Vision never seemed willing to make the next step to becoming a realistic competitor to Sky. Maybe next year.

DB:2.66:Goodbye Bt Vision, It Was Fun While It Lasted 13

    Sky+ is different from SkyHD!

HD is new and slowly expanding.

If you want to watch a new film on Sky you have to wait for them to broadcast it, where on BTV you can watch it straight away.

I have come from SkyHD and found loads of new stuff on there which I havent seen.

Is BT Vision still showing as active on your account (e.g. on your bills or on BT.com)? If so, then you may be able to get Vision back by acquiring a box from elsewhere - perhaps from ebay.

The boxes aren't locked to any particular account; they just connect to the servers and register themselves when booted up.

Otherwise, you'd have to contact BT and subscribe to BT Vision again, but the pay-as-you-go option is no longer offered to new customers so you'd be hit with a monthly fee.

DB:2.63:Bt Vision, You View...... In Fact Bt In General kj

I cancelled my BT Vision service on 10th October to actually finish on 19th December ie at 12 months.

The reason I cancelled was because my You View box has been an awful experience, its been totally unreliable, I object to acting as a test bed for debugging problems and finally one day it erases over 250 hours of programmes some of which I had been keeping for the winter nights.

I followed up by telephoning BT on 13th October just to make sure it was cancelled (based on previous experience with BT) and was told it was cancelled. At the same time I renewed my BT package to now include unlimited broadband and got an email listing telephone line, telephone anytime calls and broadband unlimited as my new package to start 19th December.

All seemed fine until I got a bill in mid December which included BT Vision up to mid January 2014. It also included anytime calls twice (yes twice) as well to rub salt into the wounds.

I rang BT and they told me I hadn't cancelled my BT Vision and that I could cancel from that day but the cancellation would require 30 days notice. Strange says I, you sent me an email listing my new package starting 19th December which doesn't list BT Vision.

Since then I have made eight more phone calls, I have noted down each and every one I have spoken to, to get this sorted. I have spent nearly an hour each time talking to various people. I would love to list some of them here to embarrass them.

In addition I have had demands to return the You View box. I have questioned this only to be told that I should ignore this request as I had the subscription for the minimum of 12 months. I have asked them to write to me or email me telling me that I can keep the box and until today nobody has been in a position to email this to me, "I've put a note on the file" is the answer I get to which I reply, will that be as reliable as the note on the file to cancel my BT Vision in the very first place?

Today I get a letter and a plastic bag telling me to return the box.

I phone and finally speak to a decent person in BT who emails me to tell me that I can keep the box. Wonderful!

In addition I have now sent two detailed letters of complaint to BT, both by recorded delivery and both to the MD for the retail division. Both have been delivered, one mid Nov complaining about the YOU View box problems I have had and one mid Dec complaining about this latest debacle and also including a copy of the earlier complaint.

To date NO REPLY! Great communications from a supposed communications company.

So BT let me explain to you what is going to happen, when this latest package is over I'm going to kiss you goodbye and go to a communication company who can communicate reliably with their customers. Assuming there is one of course.

Oh yes, by the way, I am told today that I have a credit coming on my next bill £6.90 for the BT Vision overcharge and £5.15 for the duplicated anytime calls. Thats a total of £12.05 credit for what must be eight hours spent on phone calls to BT and for writing two letters of complaint.

It saddens me to say that I used to support BT but it really has no idea how to look after its customers.

Being fair to them they did not charge me any time my tv wasn't working properly. But as time went on i was getting a bit tired of this reoccuring issue or issue's. A few months back it packed up all together internet and vision (phone was ok though) We called them and they said it was our plug socket thingys, so two new ones were sent out very slowly as the first set they sent to my last address, but they arrived finally,we fitted them and all was working, still not great but working a bit. The last few weeks has been hard work with it just turning its self off, not recording, freezing up updating and generally very slow to respond to any input. So todaya call was agan made by my wife to them somewhat frustrated by now. They said they will perform test again and call back. This they did but i answered there call and he said ''we have performed some tests and there seems to be no problem'' I expalined to them the issues and how long we have had them, the new sockets we have had,the constant reboots freezing etc etc. I also explained that I have had his set up of equipment for 4 years now it i belive it is time for a 'fresh set up', things become worn out over time and four years in my opinoin was good going,IT'S REALLY TIME TO REFESH MY GEAR!! One more test was completed and a call back to me,And sure enough ''oh there is one thing that appears not be working, There is an internal software issue thast seems to have been there for a few months'' Right now were talkingI thought,So i have been told a new box will be sent out on the 26th,fitted and tested infront of me. It's taken almost a year of moaning and reporting problems to get this far. If you ask me, Bt need to up the game somewhat when it comes to thereequipment, There service althougha bit hard work at timesis always dealt with, i always get a call back when they say they will andthey always pay for there mistakes in down time its just there equipment and its reliability and perfomance that is letting them down. Hopefully the engineer will turn up as promised he will at last have me a new box, not a refurbed one and will be well again.

For several days there has been a message come up onmy BT vision that says it is offline and I have done every check advised on the BT website but to no avail. I had a problem with my phone line 2 weeks ago which was eventually fixed yesterday but now I have this problem and another with BT Sport which I will post seperately. I have tried calling BT but the waiting time is half an hour and the ringback function did not work. I have resorted to logging a complaint to which I have not yet received a response. I signed up to BT Vision a year ago and whilst there were a few teething problems they were resolved and up until now have enjoyed BT vision service. Am not happy.

finally after months of problems with BT vision, i get a phone call earlier today from India tech dept to inform me that all my issues are the result of the new Vision service updates and that BT are working to resolve these issues, but India cannot say how long it will take.

25 minutes later another call from BT asking why i have cancelled my direct debit. so i tell they guy that i wish to renegotiate my costs based on my Vision service being sub-standard.

"no" he says, "you must pay each month, even if the service is faulty"

HA, **bleep** HA, i say. stick Vision where the sun does not shine.

    DB:2.61:Unhappy With Bt Vision mf

Not sure what you are supposed to be an expert in Expert, but it is not business or customer service.FYI a contract is a negotiation between two parties, if one party changes the terms of service, as in BT arrogantly changing the content and delivery of their service, then the other party has the right to re-negotiate their position, which means forvthe consumer cancelling their direct debit. Any vandalism against an individuals credit rating would be breaking many rules and would result in this case, in BT getting in to trouble. And another thing, has anyone noticed that the evil empire are now charging for utterly free sevices such as 4OD, ITV and 5 player.......haha the words Peckham Spring come to mind. Bye Bye BT Vision service, you will be sacked mainly for your arrogance rather than your change of service.

When i phoned the sales team about getting the whole package they talked me through the available channels, she said to me its pretty much like sky and most of the channels/shows that are on sky are on BT vision unlimited. I have finally after a million and one problems setting it up and my order taking an extended amount of time to complete set my box up and now see that what she said is not true. The on demand shows seem quite dated and not very new which is quite disappointing. i cant get sky as the complex i live in dont allow sky dishes on the building and virgin is not available here so BT is pretty much my only option. Hi, I've already posted about my issues with the BT Vision box and the fact that it's pretty much unusable due to it turning off at least 6 times an hour -http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Vision/NEW-VISION-BOX-UPDATE-IS-USELESS/m-p/736824/highlight/false#M41...

Someone suggested we change to BT youview. I was curious to see what other peoples experiences of it have been, have there been any major issues like ours, and I'm curious as to why BT are operating two major television systems, instead of concentrating on one, particularly as Vision doesn't seem to work very well.

Also, is there any reason why we've not been offered BT youview when we've contacted BT and explained that Vision is unusable, and they've told us it's a known issue and they won't be fixing it in the foreseeable future?

    Thanks

Called them back and they've admitted I can have it without infinity. Pretty shocking customer service. They'll give it to me but charge me £50 for it, even though they admit the vision box doesn't work and its a software issue of their making that they don't know when they'll resolve. Told them I'll decide tonight if I want to get further fleeced and call them back.

Since receiving my BT Vision service a couple of weeks ago I've had problems with my remote only working every 9-10 presses at times (Sometimes it works fine but most of the time I'll have to press the button several times)

The remote itself flashes but the blue indicator on the Vision box doesn't come on to show it's received the signal, and the box doesn't respond to the keypress

In addition when I hit the down button, at times 7-8 times as above to try and get it to move, it will finally register on the box but it will move up instead.

This is leading to massive amounts of frustration as something as simple as trying to watch a recorded movie can take 4-5 minutes to get to using the remote.

I reported it to BT technical however they didn't do any troubleshooting and just emailed me back saying they'd posted a new remote.

As i expected the new remote solved nothing and i'm having exactly the same issue with this one as well.

Does anyone have any idea of how I can sort this going forwards?

Thanks in advance for your time,

    Mr Richard Parkes

DB:2.60:2 Bt Vision Remotes Not Working 9f

No, you should not need to buy another TV !What you need to do is to somehow shield the front of the BT Vision box, so that light from the TV screen cannot fall on it.Experiment with some cardboard with aluminium foil stuck to one side. This should block any infra red signals.Keeping the TV an Vision box on, move the card around, while pressing the up/down channel on the remote. You could try overlapping slightly, the front of the Vision box, while still allowing the remote to work. You could also try pushing the TV or Vision box towards the back of the box so they cannot "see" each other.Try to eliminate any reflections within the cabinet.

Just to make sure that it is the light from the TV, and not electrical interference, cover the front of the TV with something that will block the light, or turn the TV to another input which gives a black screen.

Really, its just a case of experimentation.

hey i think our building switched to a new ariel yesterday which is great as we now have HD on the freeview HD , anyway if watching the BT Vision box there are two problems now. WHen i press the button "home" it doesn't bring up the menu for Sony Bravia (it used to), it brings up the menu if i press "home" when watching freeview on the telly. Also when turning on Bt Vision it goes to a black screen as default and you have to select the channel on Bt Vision this never used to happen! Also there is a new option thats come called Tuner for HDMI output. what is this?!

DB:2.60:Using Bt Vision Box With Sony Bravia Problems ma

This varies by Bravia but if pressing the Home button on the Sony remote does not bring up the menu this is related to what you have set the BraviaControl or Control to HDMI on the Sony to. The telly thinks that theSony remote is trying to control anotherconnected device from the TV over HDMI and as far as I know, none of the BT or Sky boxes support this.

    You have several options here:

You can change the control for HDMI settings but this will affect other devices that use Bravia Control.

You can set the SonyTV to what is contolled by the remote via System Settings -HDMI setup - Device Control Keys- then select an option.

You can press the "sync menu" button on the Sony Remote, then "TV control" on the menu then the remote is directly controlling the TV menus.

If you disconnected your broadband while you were away your TV programmes would stop recording properly after a couple of days, but that wouldn't explain the issue with live TV which should be OK regardless.

    Hi all,

Like many people here I also am experiencing constant rebooting problems with the BT Vision Box.

Have been recently in contact with a BT employee from the Resolutions Team to make my complaint. His reply is as follows -

This is a known issue with the Vision+ Box. I understand you have been advised of this. The Vision+ Box will reboot from time to time. This issue will not be fixed as BT has now moved over to YouView. You could have this box but will lose Sky Sports as this is not currently available on the YouView Boxes. I am sorry if this is not the response you wanted but this is our position on this matter.

In other words...stop complaining or go somewhere else.

DB:2.56:Bt Vision Box Constant Rebooting - Bt Stance 7a

The response from BT above is pathetic. You cannot supply a service to customers knowing it to be problematic, and then telling them to like it or lump it.These boxes need to be fixed or not supplied.

    Hi all,

This post may touch on other problems I have seen on this site, but I am "missing" capacity and although I would appear to have plenty of spare memory, programmes either do not record or stop recording before the end of their allotted time.

These problems began over Xmas 2010. The BT Vision box was acquired on April 2009.

Finally before I list my current stats I have noticed that my Allocated Managed Memory figures changes every second or so. I do not recall this happening in the first year or soof owning a BT Vision box.

    Anyway, these are my stats as of 14th May 2011;

Allocated Managed Memory - flicks between 5755kb and 6428kb, various values appear.

    Allocated Physical Memory - 8880kb

    Available Virtual Memory - 9216kb

    Memory load - 80%

    Disk Usage - 2% remains.

So how come I have 80% load but only 2% available?

My immediate reaction would be to defrag the hard drive but searching for threads on this remedy has drawn a blank.

I am at a loss on this one - HELP PLEASE

    M

DB:2.56:Missing Capacity On Bt Vision ss

A BT engineer friend of mine has told me that the reason for all this lost recordings and capacity issue malarky is that BT are introducing a new operating platform for the BT Vision servers, and this requires a wind down of capacity on the vision box empire in readiness for the big changeover that is due to be completed by end of September. He sympathised with my view that maybe it would have been a good idea to inform its BT Vision die-hard customers, before they give up and go elsewhere for their telly programmes. I suppose it is relevant to say that he is a member of the BT vision team within BT and should know what he is talking about. Anyone care to dispute this as rubbish? Any BT mediators out there? I rekon something should be done to inform us before we vote with our feet and go elsewhere. Or is that the intention?

    Its not rocket science.......

Last Thursday I received a call (one of many I might add) from your BT Vision sales team in your Belfast Office. As I have explained to many BT sales people who preceded thisadvisor I have actually gone through the process of ordering this twice now and on both occasions you have lost my order and I was not willing to go through the hassle of ordering it again.

However,an advisorat your Belfast office assured me that he would ensure it was delivered on the 31st August and even agreed to send me a new black home hub to "sweeten me up". I spent a good hour on the phone with him while he took me through verification and once again he offered his promise and assurance my BT vision equipment and hub would arrive on the 31st August.

GUESSWHAT!!!!!!!! Its the 2nd September and I called your office to be told my order does not exist?? Just like the times before YUP I am a mad woman, what on earth are you doing BT?

Why hassle someone continuously with sales calls to try and get them to agree to additional services, and when they finally agree again for the third time you STILL FAIL TO DELIVER?

I thought it was third time lucky, maybe the gods of communications are trying to tell me something, that your BT VISION service is as reliable as your BELFAST CONTACT centre and the useless sales people before him.

I have now been given another reference number and assured that my BT VISION will arrive no later than the 9th September. The gentleman has assured me that he will ensure I do not get charged the 15 pounds set up fee and that I willalso receive the new blackhome hub free of charge.

I am livid, so you can only imagine, how hacked off I will be if this does not arrive next week. Please ensure it does

I am a BT Broadband customer on Option 3, and require the Internet as I am a creative consultant who works primarily from home. I have v2 BT Home Hub. My Internet disconnected on Friday, with a blue power and wireless light and an orange phone light. The broadband light is not on at all.

I phoned BT, as you do, and was passed from one CS representative to another, when finally someone explained that it was either a line fault in the property or a fault at the exchange. Then they advised me three working days until it is addressed by BT.

    1. I don't have three days to wait for BT to decide what problem this is. They don't even seem to know, although on my account they have registered a reported fault. My current experience with BT tells me that this is something that they will let go on for a week or more and I am not prepared to have that experience again.

    2. If I'm not given advice regarding this problem, I will have no choice but to pass this over to my lawyer who will bill BT for lost working hours as a result of a violation of our contract for Internet.

I would sincerely appreciate if someone could advise me further so I don't have to waste my time with BT anymore.

I cannot get any films or pay per view tv programmes via BT Vision, nor can I get any interactive features via the red button on freeview (via BT box). I have been told previously by BT that the reason for BT Vision problem is inadequate broadband speed, but I have no problems with speed on my PC- can watch and download films and music with no problems.

Speed check shows download speed of 1828 Kbps, DSL connection rate, 2752 Kbps (down-stream), 448 Kbps (up-stream) (best effort test).

    Anyone help please?

    DB:2.56:Bt Vision And Interactive sk

The line speed would have no effect on the red button. I would suggest checking that the home hub can see the internet connection (there's a connectivity check in the settings area of the menu). Then reboot both the hub and then the vision box.Your speed should be fast enough for on-demand. The minimum is 2M. BT Vision uses QoS (quality of service) to proritise traffic, so it should still work on lines down to 2M OK. That assumes that BT have set up your line to use QoS. If they haven't then things will be very flaky.

I'm pleased to see that Stuart's email is a sticky. Apologies if this was just overlooked, as opposed to an attempt at a tactical under carpet announcement! ;-)

It's best to put your posts in a relevant thread, or start a new one, as you're not having a C03 error.

The remote control's mute and volume buttons control your TV, not the Vision + box, as it's also a universal remote control. Visit this page for instructions; you need to look up your TV model and follow the instructions to programme your remote. Oh, and the Black and Silver remotes have different codes even for the same TV!

I have finally reached the end of my teather with BT Vision. The service just isn't good enough.

I have been a BT Vision customer since March. I took up the full BT Vision package with BT Infinity. All the extra channels plus Sky Sports 1 2. So with phone calls included I am paying BT £82+ a month.

From day 1 there have been teething problems. Screen freezes, box resets etc. Initially I let these go. I understood BT were taking on Darth Vader in Murdoch and that there would be teething problems. 6 months plus down the road and the service is no better. In fact it's probably worse. Tonight I had the misfortune of trying to deal with the muppets in India. They don't even know the product they are supposed to be the technical help on. They whole thing is just tragically bad. They cannot continue to charge a premium rate for a substandard product.

For anyone reading these forums who is considering taking up BT Vision, I implore you to back out and not consider it. I'd love to know what constitutes breach of contract although I reckon I know the answer isn't what I want to hear. Any thoughts on the best way to get financial redress?

DB:2.55:Iplayer Stutters On Bt Vision, Not On Ps3 m9

I have now got to the stage where I have stopped recording most programmes as I know I can 'catchup' using iPlayer and other on demand catch up services. However, I find that when I use iPlayer on BT Vision (Ch 990) it stutters and sometimes I have sound with a stuck picture. When I use iPlayer on my PS3, I have none of these problems. Both the Vision box and PS3 are hardwired into my v2 HomeHub (they are effectively next to each other) and therefore, I can rule out bandwidth as an issue. Is it simply that the PS3 version of iPlayer is better than the BT Vision one, or is it that the PS3 hardware is more capable of processing the signal?

If it is the software (iPlayer) then this is something for BBC/BT to work together on I guess, however....

If it is the BT Vision hardware, am I correct to believe iPlayer is extending it's capabilities and therefore it will get worse?

DB:2.55:Iplayer Stutters On Bt Vision, Not On Ps3 m9

I too am having this problem, i.e. choose a program from iPlayer via the menu or channel 990 start it playing and then every 30 sec to a minute it will pause sound and vision for anything from a split second to 3 seconds or so and then carry on playing...........very frustrating.....

Works fine on a PC and I have about 6Mb broadband using a silver V Box.

I have raised a problem with BT Vision support and they have talked me through rebooting the box, which just brought back other faults like the interrupted recording that I thought was fixed.

I was told "that it worked better via channel 990" and "that this was a short term fix", not true, it's just as bad on there.

Also plugging the power line adaptors directly into mains sockets rather than via an extension lead.

This fault has now been open for about a week and I have had updates that it has been escalated to tech support and the Vision platform but no progress on fixing it.

Hey! It's only TV, not a life or death issue, but it's very frustrating that it doesn't work properly or any solid news that it is a recognised and widespread problem and that it is being worked on.

I will try to send my details to a Moderator to see if they can progress this...............
