DB:4.06:Superfetch Service Does Not Start Automatically At The Startup And The Computer Is Starts Up Very Slowly mf

    Hello everyone,
I bought a new computer about 18 months ago and it ran very well. I was extremely happy with it. Especially how quickly it would boot up. I eventually noticed, however, that the start up of my
pc was getting extremely slow. I opened the event viewer and noticed that at the time of my computers startup, the superfetch service wouldnt be able to start. It said:
The Superfetch service terminated with the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
After doing quite a bit of research, i ran a hdd integrity test through the command prompt, emptied the prefetch cache and enables the superfetch service it works. and even upgraded and re-installed
the operating system. The service superfetch still fails to start. Occasionally, it did however start after i emptied the prefetch cache and my computer instantly, started up very fast. Like new again. But the next time i booted up my pc, it failed to start
again. I want the service to be reliable and start every time.

    Old title: superfetch service error

DB:4.06:Superfetch Service Does Not Start Automatically At The Startup And The Computer Is Starts Up Very Slowly mf

    Hi Nagaraz,

I would like to ask some questions regarding this issue. Please do answer to these questions for a better understanding.

    1) What is the
Startup Type for the Superfetch service in the Service console? Did you set it as
    Automatic?
    2) Do you get any error message when you start the
Superfetch service from the Service console?
    3) Do you have any unwanted software on the computer that starts when the computer starts up?
    4) Do you have any third party security program installed on the computer?

The reason why the Superfetch service is not starting automatically could be because its
Startup Type is set as Manual, instead of Automatic. This could also happen if there are any unwanted startup item on your computer that may conflict with this service.

So, first check if the Startup Type for this service is set as
Automatic in the service console. You may try these steps:

Method 1: Start the Superfetch service and set its Startup Type as Automatic

    a) Press “Windows Logo” + “R” keys on the keyboard to open the “Run” command box.
    b) Type
Services.msc in the Run command box and press Enter.
    c) In the
Services console window, search for the Superfetch service from the list of services.
    d) Double-click on it and click on the
Start button to start the service and then set the Startup Type as
    Automatic.
    e) Click on
    Apply and then Ok.
    f) Restart the computer and check if the issue still persists.

If the issue persists, then check if this happens in the Clean Boot. You may follow these steps for the same:

Method 2: Perform a Clean Boot and find out which application/service is causing this issue.

A clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts and to determine what is causing the problem. Perform a clean boot on the computer by following the steps given in the link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Follow all the steps given in this link and try to figure out the application or service causing this issue. You may please note that performing a clean boot does not fix the actual issue. It just helps us in identifying
the root cause of the issue.

Important: After you have finished troubleshooting, refer to the article “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” for Windows 7, given under the section “More Information” to reset
the computer to start as usual from the above link.

If you find any application causing this issue, then you may either check if there are any updates for it which might fix this issue or you may uninstall it is an unwanted application.

Hope this resolves the issue. If the issue still persists, please do get back to us with any additional information that you come across while the troubleshooting process. We’ll be glad to assist you further.

    Ok.

I keep getting the above message header whenever I try starting the Superfetch Service.

Having read a lot of posts on this issue, I can confirm the following:

    1. I'm running Windows 7 32Bit Sp1.

    2. All the Relevant Registry Keys appear to be intact.

    3. Whenever I delete the contents of Windows\Prefetch folder, Superfetch works until the next reboot then gives the afore-mentioned error message.

    4. What's gwan?

Ps. I need this feature to work ONLY if to confirm that it's absence is the reason why a legacy program that takes 10mins to process on a winXP box takes over 30mins to process similar data on my windows 7 laptop.

    Hi,
    1. Did you make any changes to the computer before the issue occurred?

I would suggest you to try the steps provided below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Try to set your computer in Clean Boot state and check if the same issue occurs.
By setting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, follow
Step 7 in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

Follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    a) Click StartCollapse this imageExpand this i, type
msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click
    Continue.
    b) On the General tab, click the
Normal Startup option, and then click OK.
    c) When you are prompted to restart the computer, click
    Restart.

Method 2: Try to run [System File Checker] SFC scan on the computer which would scan for corrupt

System files on the computer and replace them.

    DB:2.96:Superfetch And Server 2012 k8

    Hi,
I am curious to know why Superfetch was implemented on Server 2012 and it's not working.
We knew that on Server 2008 R2 it was present in kernel but not activated so with some homework we managed to get it going.
It seems that on Server 2012 the whole service is incomplete.
Files like sysmain.dll that has same hashcheck a the W8 x64 version are there, but then other files like readyboost.sys and various folder that go with it are missing. Also Superfetch service is not complete as a dependency is missing.
All this can be fixed as you can import files and registry settings from W8, fix service dependency and also task schedule, this get's it to working but only for a while as then service stops on his own.
My question is : will Superfetch service be fixed to work in a future Server 2012 update or will it remain there not working ?
I do not find it logical to implement something that does not work.
In anyway, any answer on the matter will appreciated.
    Thank you.

Thanks M-E for trying it. I just wasn't sure if folfer wasa typo for folder or just the name of one I was ignorant of. All of the Microsoft and MS employeereferences to Prefetch I could find are related to IIS so maybe that is all they intend
it for? Maybe they assume everyone will run their servers on SSD?

    DB:2.91:Superfetch Einstellen x1

    Guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr...

    Also, you said..
I have already formated the hard drive and reinstalled a fresh copy of windows 7.

So I'd think the problem stems from this. You need to go update the OS as first priority IMO, get the updates first using Windows Update. Otherwise you'll continue the same battle. The application looking for a webpage that doesn't exist.
You can also Go into Action Centre go to 'Maintenance' section. go to the first part and click on the View

Reliability History - Reliability Monitor will run; and you'll be able to check for warnings and errors in there.

    Hi all,

I have a fairly new, custom-built desktop with Intel Core i7, AMD 7700HD video card, 16GB memory, solid state drive and Windows 8.1. But the overall performance of the PC is a bit too sluggish for the specs I have.

So I opened Task Manager Performance tab, and noticed that the overall
CPU usage stayed at around 30-35%. Then I switched to the Processes tab, and couldn't find any programs that had high CPU usage, so I started looking at some of the Windows services.

I noticed a process called "Service Host: Local System (Network Restricted)", and it was using about 25-30% of the CPU! And underneath that, it listed 9 Windows Services (Offline Files, File History Service, SuperFetch,
etc, etc). However, Task Manager doesn't allow you to see the CPU usage associated with each individual Windows service (can that be done?). So I started disabling all the different services to see if that made any difference.

Lo and behold, the moment I stopped the SuperFetch service, overall CPU usage dropped within seconds down to about 5%!
Then I re-started SuperFetch, and noticed the CPU usage spike back up to 30-35% again within about 1 minute. I repeated the process stopping and re-starting it, and could consistently duplicate the issue. So SuperFetch is the culprit causing my computer
    to run sluggish!

Doing some research on the web, I see people in other forums saying "don't disable it", but there's no explanation given anywhere.

    So my questions are:

What exactly is SuperFetch?Does it have anything to do with drivers?
Why is it causing such high CPU usage??? Will keeping SuperFetch disabled cause issues? If so, what could happen?
    Thanks in advance for help!

    1. If it loads into memory recently used / most commonly used applications does it mean that the hard disk life time is shortened? (constantly working)2. Wouldn't it be nice if they add a control panel option to tweak superfetch? (see exactly what it loads into memory and when, maybe even change some of the settings)

    DB:2.82:Superfetch 9c

According to a white paper by Google (sorry, I've forgotten the link), there is little or no correlation between the lifetime of a disk and how hard it works (hard referring to lots of accesses).

I don't think I'd be in favour of any Superfetch tweaking facility - it's just another thing for people to mess up. It'd be like letting the owner of a car fiddle about with the fuel/ignition timing mapping.

I've been having a problem with my laptop for some time now. I have Windows 7 Home Premium.
I'll boot the computer and everything pops up quickly. Once I go to click on the internet or even the start button, everything will freeze. It will start up again after a few minutes, sometimes even an hour.
I've run the troubleshooting tool in Windows in safe mode and get a message that says Superfetch has stopped working. I can't start Superfetch in safe mode so I try logging into normal mode. It takes awhile to finally get into Services and once
I do, it says that Superfetch is running normally again.
What is causing Superfetch to turn on and off like this? The error code I get is: 7001 from Service Control Manager the dependency service or group failed to start.
In the past, I've used System Restore and this has solved the problem with Superfetch. However, when I tried this over the weekend, my computer told me that I didn't have any restore points saved. I've always had restore points saved so this
was surprising. I went into Services and noticed that my Volume Shadow Copies was turned off and set to Manual. This was strange, as I haven't touched this before. I turned it back on and set it back to default settings. But now I don't
    have any good restore points.
What's causing my settings to change on their own? The only thing I can think of is a virus but my Kapersky scan says nothing is wrong.
I've run scannow, disk defrag, c-cleaner, check disk, virus scan and everything in between with no errors in any of them. I can't seem to find an answer online. My memory is fine and I'm not running high CPU usage.
    I'd highly appreciate any help!

    DB:2.78:Superfetch Stops Working 1j

I did this and it did not work. I ended up bringing in the laptop and I have several viruses that have infested my computer, viruses that Kapersky did not catch! Very frustrating to pay for antivirus and have it not work, costing me a lot of
    money in repairs.
    Thanks for your help, though!

My HP Pavilion dv9704tx laptop's gfx. card went kaput today morning.

What happens is, i can use the laptop in "basic theme" ONLY, the moment i enable any aero theme, the screen tears up, discoloration appears then laptop freezes.

With aero enabled (reboot after driver install), system will work till login page, when i login to my acc., - system freeze. :\

Just before all the crap started, i had installed CCleaner did some cleaning coz, all the games would take some time to start up.i thought it was "superfetch' (windows 7) which might have caused this.

Just after CCleaner cleaned all the things, the whole system froze. I then, from 11:30am to 12:30pm, i must have booted-rebooted-safe mode, normal mode... vista , W7... like 50times.

reinstalled gfx card drivers, old new, for atleast 15times, then even reinstalled Windows 7 thinking there could be something wrong in "system32" folder, but all to no avail.

atlast i had digest that the gfx. card is indeed dead.

In Vista, at first Vista will show a error msg, regarding gfx. driver crashing recovering. it would automatically disable "aero" the system was ready for use, but now (~3hours later), Vista does not disable aero the moment i login system freezes.

it idles at 60+ degree celcius when i play a video game, it'll shoot right upto 85deg celcius (70 is okay, but 80 is too much).

my small doubt is whether HP will replace the defective part or give a similar configed replacement laptop?

i'm really fed up with the retardedly low battery backup time (less than 1hour with aero, only for browsing purpose) the HEAT. i want an upgrade/replacement, to be honest.

HP seems more agreeable if the unit has AMD, as opposed to Intel. The CR person at HP was resistant to acknowledge my unit was incurring the same defect as many others because it had Intel. From my research it seems the root cause is the solder that they used to mount the GPU-combined with a fairly anemic cooling fan.

Pretty amazing the replacement motherboard has the same issue, with a very limited warranty(30 days?)

DB:2.73:Windows 7 Clean Install On Ssd - Defragmentation And Superfetch ms

Some sources say that Windows 7 will automatically make adjustments for SSD, such as disablingdeframentation and Superfetch.

DB:2.73:Windows 7 Clean Install On Ssd - Defragmentation And Superfetch ms

You need to know about SSD hard drives

SSD stands for Solid State Disc or also Solid State
Drive and refers to a still relatively young memory technology that is appropriate due to falling hardware prices as an alternative to traditional hard drives. SSD drives are offered in different versions, for example, as a pure Flash or hybrid plates,
which combine traditional hard drive with a solid state memory. In many cases, SSD drives offer compared to "old" hard drives with write-read head distinct advantages:
    · SSD drives offer better speeds when accessing data, especially at system startup
    · SSD drives are quieter than ordinary hard drives
    · SSD hard drives require no cooling on the fly
    · SSD drives have no mechanical parts such as write head and are therefore more robust
    · SSD hard drives consume less power during operation

Currently you can buy SSD hard drives as internal hard drives for desktop PCs and notebooks or as external USB disk.

While you see mostly an available free slot with SATA port in desktops, notebooks are often forced to exchange the existing drive to an SSD drive. However, you must transfer your operating system and your data to the new drive or reinstall. As an alternative
we offer SSD USB-stick around for data protection.

No matter which solution you choose, please bear in mind, that you experience the time advantages especially when reading the data - about when you start programs or loading large image or video files. When writing data, SSD disks are so far still not superior
    to conventional hard disks.

To use the advantages of SSD drives, you should include it best in Windows. This article and the other chapters of this series can help you. Please see the notes in each chapter. Some tips are only useful if you have only one SSD disk in your PC. Other tips
can only run if you are using both a traditional and an SSD drive in your PC.

Disable automatic defrag for SSD drives

Usually detects Windows 7 after installation or after the SSD disk and correctly wraps. This also includes the detection that some services are disabled, which would restrict the functionality, performance and service life of the drive. First of all, you should
check whether the automatic defragmentation is disabled. This is not the case, you should disable the automatic deactivation for the disc manually.

Note: If you disable automatic defragmentation, this applies to all connected drives. If you use conventional hard drives in addition to the SSD drive in your PC, you should manually start the defragmentation on a regular basis for these drives.

    1. Open the Windows Explorer with the keyboard shortcut [Windows] and [E]. With the right mouse button click on the SSD drive or a different hard disk.

    Disable SuperFetch

SuperFetch and prefetch are storage management technologies in Windows that provide a fast-track access to data on traditional, slower hard drives. This really clever services provide only for unnecessary writes on SSD drives. Typically, Windows 7 automatically
disables these services for your SSD disk. Otherwise disable it manually.

Note: The following instructions are for computers that have a single SSD disk, on which both the Windows system and programs and data are stored.

To disable prefetch, you must take the detour via the registry (registry). Changes to the registry are recommended to be done only by experienced users.

Note: The following instructions are for computers that have a single SSD disk, on which both the Windows system and programs and data are stored.

Open the registry by entering the command regedit in the search programs and files field. In the tree under

DB:2.66:Why Does Windows 8 Not Automatically Disable Superfetch On Ssd? 3x

    Hello!
Windows 7 used to disable Superfetch automatically if it detects a fast SSD as system drive. But Windows 8 doesn't. In this respect i found an interesting statement from Intel in the help section of the SSD Toolbox:
In Microsoft Windows 8, Superfetch functions differently than in previous versions of Windows, and should not be disabled for an Intel SSD.
But i can't find any official statement or explanation from Microsoft for this topic.
My questions: What is the difference between the Superfetch service in Windows 7 and the Superfetch service in Windows 8? What did MS changed? Why does it now make sense for a SSD?

DB:2.66:Why Does Windows 8 Not Automatically Disable Superfetch On Ssd? 3x

I took out the SSD to use in another computer. I'd like to turn ready boost back on for the machine that has a regular, and somewhat slow old hard drive now.

Now, Task scheduler services are automatic services. and this service is dependent on windows event log service. so does that mean that we cannot disable windows event log service??

I ask that because when the machine is deployed, the superfetch service is not disabled but set on automatic and from time to time I have errors in the eventlog.
The first event is always event 7036 'The Superfetch service entered the running state.'.
The second event is event 7036 'The Superfetch service entered the stopped state.'.
The third event is event 7023 'The Superfetch service terminated with the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.'

    DB:2.57:Suggestion - Superfetch Service jd

    hey
it is a great service, to cash frequently used files, except of the huge hard usage at start up, so if you please compress these files into z-zip or CAB ( I would prefer 7-zip due to its high compressing ratio please consider it ), and when cashing let the
superfetch service use this compressed file it will reduce disk usage but will increase the CPU usage, I think for me and for everyone it is not a problem with multi high speed cores CPUs these days.

edit: and I think it will make it faster to cash
    thanks in advance

    DB:2.57:Suggestion - Superfetch Service jd

I know how it works, it is just a suggestion, to compress the files that SuperFetch load into memory so can reduce hard disk usage, without delete the files, it will use more disk space and it will use more cpu usage, but it will reduce hard disk usage
    and seek time.
    Edit
for example if SuperFetch load6948 files, like is in my case, they files are not next to each others, and lets say they have 500 mb size, if we can make the service to compress the files in its list without deleting them, so it will be one compressed
file its size lets say 100 mega, so instead of cashing 7000 files in so many different locations in the disk, it will cash 1 file in1 location ( assuming defrag service is on by default ) and smaller size and decompress it to memory

advantage : it will be faster and less hard disk usage during cashing
disadvantage:more size on disk ( the added compressed file ) more cpu usage

    DB:2.54:W7 15% Active Ram Decrease? 9j

In Windows 7 64-bit Build 7100 I've noticed something strange. At boot typically my active RAM usage is around 740MB (then usually drops to about 650MB after about 10 minutes after boot) however I notice that throughout the day my RAM usage will dip to about 400MB and I could never figure out why. I like to put my system in sleep mode throughout the day and I hypothesized that maybe this would be the cause. I turned my system in sleep mode and then resumed from standby once the machine was fully asleep. Lo' and behold: Before Sleep: Processes Tab After Resume From Sleep: Processes Tab At any rate, almost every process has reduced RAM usage (with varying degrees). Explorer.exe in particular uses close to a third of the RAM it did prior to sleep mode. Normally I'd suspect this has something to do with SuperFetch but I have the service turned off. Turning it on yielded the same results (though I'm sure I need to actually use my machine rather than just turn it on and off to see the effects). I even made sure to turn it off in the registry and I still still got the same results. At first I suspected that maybe this is because upon sleep Windows clears it's cache but after resume Windows has cached more. I'm assuming it automatically caches programs that are not in use upon resume? But I don't really know. At any rate, this is necessarily a problem per say but I am curious as to why Windows 7 is using much more RAM than it needs to. Leaving the computer on does not allow me to get to 400MB levels and really only idles at around 650MB. I tried this trick on Vista Basic 32-bit but it does not react in the same way (with or without Superfetch on). Does anyone else get the same results and does anyone have a reasoning for this?

    DB:2.54:W7 15% Active Ram Decrease? 9j

Hi PastramiOnRy, Rather than wondering why Windows may be using so much RAM, consider that if you have RAM available, Windows will make use of it.  Else, what is the point of having RAM, if it is not being used?  If some program needs RAM that Windows has found a lower-priority use for, it will repurpose that RAM and let the program use the RAM. With respect to your observations, it makes sense to remove as much as necessary from physical memory as possible, prior to entering a sleep mode.  Probably, what you are seeing is at least in part due to the trimming of working sets (parts of programs in physical memory) that takes place prior to suspension / sleep.

    DB:2.51:Superfetch kf

    Hi,

You can follow these steps to check if Superfetch is enabled..

    i) Type Services.msc in the Start Search box as shown in the pic below and then select Services.msc-

ii) In the Services screen click on any of the services and then press S. Under S look for Superfetch.

Superfetch should show Automatic or enabled. If not then double click Superfetch and then change the Startup Type to Automatic.

By default it should always be automatic for best performance. Once Automatic is selected Click on the Start button under Service Status and then click Apply and Ok. Restart the Computer and check if it is better.

If the boot process is still slow then you can perform a clean boot as mentioned in the steps below:

Try loading to Safe Mode with Networking and check if is slow there as well.

How to Enter Safe Mode With Networking:

Once in Safe Mode with Networking do aclean startup

Check the difference in performance while in normal mode and safe mode. If it works fine in Safe Mode then most likely a software issue or virus issue.

I've read all the threads that I can find on this topic, and am still confused.

I've installed Windows 7 on a 128GB C300, and checked that Trim is enabled - and it is.

I've also checked that Windows has disabled Prefetcher and Superfetch - but it hasn't.

There is a widely held view that testing has shown that Prefetching and Superfetch, which were designed for mechanical drives, are not needed when you have drives as fast as SSDs, and the overhead of these services may even slow you down.

However, Microsoft says: "Initially, we had configured all of these features to be off on all SSDs, but we encountered sizable performance regressions on some systems. In root causing those regressions, we found that some first generation SSDs had severe enough random write and flush problems that ultimately lead to disk reads being blocked for long periods of time. With Superfetch and other prefetching re-enabled, performance on key scenarios was markedly improved."

And "Windows 7 News" says: "The operating system will determine automatically if the drive it is installed on should have superfetch, prefetch and all the other caching related functions enabled or disabled."

On the basis of these two statements, it appears that Windows 7 has assessed that my 128GB C300 would benefit from these services, and therefore I should leave them running. Does anyone have any from an authoritative source to contradict this?

My internet is very slow. So to the forums I go. I went to Services
and found the superfetch had stopped working. I tried to start it
but it would start for a second and then quit. When I got this computer in 09, IE7 was already on. I have since upgraded to 8
and then now to 9. Can you fix Superfetch for me Please?
This is still Toshiba Windows Vista Basic L3557905

    Try emptying your Prefetch folder.

    C:\Windows\Prefetch

If you cannot do that from within Windows, do it in Safe Mode.

Start your computer in safe mode

I doubt whether that's slowing down your browsing. This applied to IE9 as well.

Why is my Internet connection so slow?

DB:2.50:I Have An Odd Situation. The Superfetch Service Will Not Start Unless The Prefetch Folder Is Empty . Why Is That So And What Can I Do To Correct This Problem mx

I recently discovered that readyboost was no longer working and after much troubleshooting found that the reason was that the superfetch service would not start. After much more troubleshooting I found that superfetch would start if all of the contents
of the prefetch folder were deleted. My thinking on this is that either there is a specific file in the folder that is causing problems or that the folder itself might be corrupted or changed in a way that is causing the problem. I am thinking about deleting
the prefetch folder and have Windows 7 recreate it and see if that helps. I understand from my research that Win 7 does recreate this folder after a reboot if it is not there. However, if this is not the case then I don't want to try this as a solution.
Or is there something I am missing or another possible solution to this aggrevating situation?

    thanks

To start the service, go to the Windows Orb (Start) All Programs Administrative Tools Services. Scroll down to Superfetch, double-click it and change the Startup type to Automatic and click Start to immediately turn it on.
    2. If that doesn’t resolve it, deleting the contents of the folder may. Click the Windows Orb (Start), type %SystemRoot%\Prefetch and press Enter. Now delete everything.

DB:2.50:Ssd Ready Boost Doesn't Worl mz

I have an HP Pavilion dv7-4071nr. I'm running a ESATA SSD for Ready Boost. It worked fine at first, however it has stopped working. I try to start superfetch and all I get is Error: 1067 it can't start the service. I poked around and found some suggestion on resetting the registry values. That didn't work. Also, after I try to start superfetch my wireless connection has to be restarted. I also tried some flash drives and get the same thing "This device can't be used for ready boost.

    Thanks

DB:2.50:Superfetch Precaches Command Conquer And Supreme Commander Before Logon 33

Vista 64, 4 GB, 6 GB swap, Quad core, more than one hard drive.
Vista is installed for 4 month, works well enough so I won't go back to XP.
Two month ago I saw superfetch precaching unneeded file for bootup, making the bootup process slower, so I changed in the registry "EnableSuperfetch" to 2, (= boot files only), which helped by that time.
At the 30 of December I saw (using perfmon.exe and boottrace) it prefetching "Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour" and "Supreme Commander" files BEFORE logon, and rattling on the harddrive DURING logon on those files instead of taking care of Virus Scanner,
    Realtek-Audiomanager etc.
My Autostart part is very clean, there are not even icons on my desktop for those two games.
I did not use som strange "Vista Optimizer" tools, everything I changed was under my own control.

What I saw in perfmon (after logon):
svchost.exe (LocalSystemNetworkRestricted) accessing "G:\Supreme Commander" + "G:\Command Conquer The First Decade\Command Conquer(tm) Generals Zero Hour", all subdirectories, not linear, multiple files at the same time.
Those two add up to about 9.7 GB, more ram than I have (real + swap make up 10 GB).
So, Superfetch worked fine for first two month, then I had to restrict it to "boot files only", and now two more month later Superfetch runs HAVOC precaching Gamedata files before logon, trying to precache 9.7 GB of data.

The Superfetch service is set to "manually" now, but I would like to reenable it. If it works the way as expected it is great, but how can I configure more precisely what is is allowed to precache during boot and what not? Where is the information stored what
    files to precache?
Why does it even with "superfetch=2" precaching files like:
    "G:\Supreme Commander\gamedata\*.scd" = 1.93 GB.
    "G:\Supreme Commander\movies\*.sfd" = 2.3 GB
etc etc etc (lots of examples).

Please help, Superfetch worked so fine, but now it runs amok, even when I start the service manually it does again do the same stupid thing, reproducable.

DB:2.50:Superfetch Precaches Command Conquer And Supreme Commander Before Logon 33

    Hi Set,

I just wanted to verify that you changed both EnableSuperfetch AND EnablePrefetcher as your original post indicated that you had only changed
one key (EnableSuperfetch) and had not changed EnablePrefetcher.
