Does any old PCMCIA flash card work in this slot to tftp new IOS to it? the one I installed isnt being recognized.

    DB:4.03:Pcmcia Flash Card On Catalyst 6509 x3

    Hello Alan,

you are in hybride mode so the MSFC2 is a separated device from the supervisor.

You can see this if you do

    sh cdp n

from the MSFC shell you see its only neighbor is the supervisor /L2 machine on a link that is 15/1 or something like that.

Try to see if there is any way to address the supervisor slot0.

I think something like sup-slot0: this will be a shortcut to a tftp download from supervisor.or sup-disk0:

    look at the link

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_tech_note09186a008013495f.shtml#slot0

    look for the section

Unable to Read the External Flash Card from MSFC2

This section addresses a Catalyst 6500/6000 switch that runs hybrid mode and is unable to read the Supervisor Engine 2 Flash PC Card (PCMCIA) or Flash PC device from MSFC2. The same external flash card is writable by the Cisco IOS on the MSFC2 and readable by CatOS on the Supervisor Engine module.

and at the end of the section:

The file systems that are available in the Supervisor Engines (disk0:/disk1:/slot0:) are mounted in the Route Processor (MSFC) as network file systems in hybrid mode. The behavior is similar to that of the tftp: file system.

I'm afraid it cannot work this way, you should try to treat the supervisor like a tftp server from MSFC2's point of view.

    Hope to help

    Giuseppe

DB:3.92:Macbook Pro And Uncompressed Editing???? 99

I'm about to buy a 2nd edit system (currently running dual G5, AJA IO, with FCP 5 and, 3TB of SATA uncompressed storage) I need this next system to be mobile but still do uncompressed video. I see that you can use the AJA IO with the old MacBooks but you need a PCMCIA FW card with dual FW800 drives raided together to do 10bit uncompressed off of Digi Beta or Beta SP. Is there a pcmcia card slot on the new intel macbooks? Is anyone running this setup with success? I need to buy this thing ASAP and have it running soon. Any ideas?

DB:3.92:Macbook Pro And Uncompressed Editing???? 99

I wouldn't say you need a 2 drive RAID to handle Uncompressed 10bit standard def. You may have heard this about HD Uncompressed, but it is certainly not true with SD uncompressed. If you plan on uncompressed multistreaming (RT dissolves, RT overlays) then you will need such a system, but it is not necessary for single stream editing. Most FW800 devices can achieve a solid 50MB/sec. This is well over the ~25MB/sec that uncompressed 10bit requires for playback.

If you need dual stream for RT effects, you could go with a FW800 RAIDed harddrive such as Lacie D2 big disk, which has 2 drives sharing a single FW800 bus and can easily achieve 60MB/sec sustained. This is borderline, but should be adequate in most situations. Remember not to attach any FW400 devices to the same bus as the FW800, or you will lose the advantages of FW800. Remember also that all Apple computers except xServe use the same bus for FW400 and FW800 ports, so you should get an ExpressCard if you plan on using FW800 and other devices at the same time.

I believe there are some SATA ExpressCard solutions out there now, and I would strongly recommend these over FireWire800. A single Western Digital Caviar RE2 drive will achieve 65MB/sec sustained speeds on a SATA bus. FW800 devices are a bit slower than native SATA since the data needs to be adjusted through a bridge chip.

Another workflow solution is to work in offline resolution with the macbook. PhotoJPEG at Medium Quality setting is great for the MacBook's internal hard drive and can be used in 720x486 unlike the DV CODEC's that are 720x480. For this reason PhotoJPEG can be swapped with Uncompressed footage easily without the odd issues that other offline formats can cause. Kona likes PhotoJPEG as well.

You might also wish to upgrade your MacBook Pro Hard drive to 160MB 7200. It should achieve speeds in the 50MB/sec range, which is nearly 2x the speed of the standard 4500RPM drive. That might be enough for 2x stream editing, but it would likely drop frames occasionally when dual streaming. Just be sure to render your sequences before outputing to tape to avoid dual streaming.

One last thing: if you're capturing footage from BetaSP, I seriously doubt you'd see a difference between the great DVCPro50 CODEC and uncompressed 10bit. The tape format doesn't really have enough latitude give you more detail than 8bits in my opinion. Digibeta is better in 10bit, but only with extremely clean footage such as film transfer. Most CCD noise or film grain create enough randomness in source footage that banding usually isn't an issue.

    Hi all
I'm back with another stupid question. What IS a PCMCIA card?
I am looking at a few used pismos on ebay, and noticed that some are missing "PCMCIA doors" or "PCMCIA eject buttons"
I know where the card slot is, but of what use is it? I have had my pismo for a while now and never needed this function, so I don't have a clue if it should be a deal breaker or not if these parts are missing or nonfunctioning.

A PCMCIA card is the lottle slot on the side of all PowerBook G3s and most laptops prior to it. You can put Wireless cards, USB cards, firewire cards, etc in the slot.

This morning my Satellite Pro A40 (Celeron 2.6) fell down some 40 cm. It fell down right on the WLAN card that was inserted. That card is still alive and so is the rest of the laptop, but the PCMCIA slot is kind of damaged. I can insert PC Cards almost completely, just the last bit (where the pins are) doesn't go.

I removed the cover near the CPU and there I could see the PCMCIA-slot from the inside; I could see the main part and the last part where the pins are. That little part is like pushed upwards, as you can see on the pics.

I think I'd be able to fix that PCMCIA slot myself, but I can't remove it. I've removed all screws on the back plate, but it is still stuck.

    Pics:

    PCMCIA slot

The PCMCIA slot; on the left you see the part with the pins, which is pushed upwards. That's also what I see when I look at the pins through the PCMCIA slot; they are like pushed down, but I don't think they are bent.

The WLAN card; it is a bit damaged but it still works.

Does anyone have an idea how I can remove the back plate, or another way to remove the PCMCIA slot and fix it?

    Hi Steve

Well, I can’t give you proper answer how you can exactly remove the PCMCIA slot.

There are many screws and in my knowledge you have to remove all covers and screw which are placed at the bottom of the unit and inside under the keyboard.

Please check this unit precise. Maybe you have overlooked some screws.

But if it impossible to remove this PCMCIA slot from the unit I recommend to ask the service partner for a detailed instruction.

    Good luck

I recently bought an Inspiron 1525, and have got to the stage of setting up my second partition, which is for music making.  I got to the point of installing my PCMCIA soundcard and have found that the PCMCIA slot that I deliberately checked for when I bought the machine is not actually a PCMCIA slot, but an incompatible Express Card slot - a format I have not heard of before!

    Disaster!

Aside from returning the laptop, what other options do I have?  The soundcard cost £250 for the PCMCIA component and has a separate break-out box which I share with my desktop PC, so a new soundcard is out of the question.

Is there a way of somehow using the PCMCIA card via the Express Card slot, or maybe USB/Firewire?  All in all I am quite disappointed by this - why has PCMCIA been dropped when there are so many peripherals that already exist for it!

It's called the ExpressCard.  It is the next generation PCMCIA technology based on USB 2.0 and PCI-Express interface found on computers, and many new notebook models (including the new Apple MacBook Pro on Intel processors) released since late last year have started to include it instead of a CardBus slot.  Unfortunately, it has a different form factor and it's not backward compatible with PCMCIA or CardBus without an adapter.  More info about the technology and its devices, including adapters can be found on their website, but as far as I can see and I could be wrong, there isn't a PCMCIA adapter yet, and we are still waiting....

Or is there a way to re-address the IRQ settings (XP Home)? Thanks for the help, luces.

Pwnd: I assume what you meant to say both times was that you have a 15" Albook. An original Airport card may fit into the CardBus slot, but it isn't designed to go there or to be used with any Aluminum Powerbook, and an Albook's antenna lead is nowhere near the CardBus slot. You need to buy either an Airport Extreme card that will fit the special slot designed for it inside your computer, or a third-party wireless card that's designed for your CardBus slot and has its own antenna, built-in or external.

Even though it might seem useless, you have to install that O2Micro OZ6912 PCMCIA Card Controller driver. Let me tell you a story. I had made an external DVD writer (with a refurbished external CD-ROM case and a S-ATA to IDE bridge) and I was using it together with a S-ATA PCMCIA card. Once, after a reinstallation, I forgot to install that driver and I have obtained a couple of coasters because the buffer kept emptying too fast. After the driver installation, DVD burning went OK.
I remember having a problem with the ethernet card (3Com 3C920 Integrated LAN) after suspend. The solution came with the installation of the drivers supplied by Dell.

Yesterday, I have never had a problem with this computer. I use the PCMCIA slot on my Inspiron 8500 for going on the internet with a Sony ericsson GC79 combo GPRS/Wireless LAN Card and sometimes when I need a Firewire port, I use a Adaptec AUA-1422 USB 2.0/1394 Cardbus. Both cards worked fine until yesterday.

Yesterday, I had the Adaptec card in the PCMCIA card slot and I tried to use the USB connection out of it. The USB device I tried to use did not work. I rebooted the computer to try again and the computer would hang while booting. The only way I could get the computer to boot was to take the card out of the slot.

I then tried to boot without any card and the computer would boot but as soon as I put the card in the slot the screen would freeze. I tried to use the Sony card and the same thing happened...can't boot if card is in or freeze screen if inserting card after computer is booted without card.

I can only think of two things that might cause this. I searched the internet and found a forum where someone had similar symptoms. The person that had the problems with their PCMCIA Card recieved a answer that it could be that the pins in the PCMCIA slot were shorted.

The second thing I think it could be is that I have some type of driver conflict. I am hoping it has something to do with drivers because I plan on re-install windows any way.

Can anyone think of any other possible causes and solutions?

What I would like to know is that if I do have a problem with the PCMCIA slot pins being shorted then how would I go about getting a replacement for the Texas Instruments PCI-4510 Cardbus controller that I have installed?

The PCMCIA slot on the 2500 series router was only used for code upgrades. You used to be able to buy an IOS upgrade and cisco would ship you on PCMCIA. You would open the router and plug the card in and Hey Presto! your IOS would be upgraded (if you were lucky... If you weren't.. Well...).

Unfortunatly you cannot actually use this slot for running IOS from, or to write a new IOS onto the card. AFAIR, the card wasn't even a "real" pcmcia card, it just used the same connector

You could use Express Card 34 via Siig Active ExpressCard/34 Card Adapter. But there is no Express Card 54 adapter available because of the size, I guess.Anyway, the most important thing you have to know is this adapter will support only USB-based ExpressCard devices. PCI Express-based ExpressCard devices will not be detected. Since this card use USB 2.0 bus on PCMCIA slot to get it work, not really the way ExpressCard slot is (support both USB PCI Express buses)^_^Message Edited by sipp11 on 07-19-2008 01:13 AM

The Linksys card works just fine in my Inspiron 8150 notebook -- it goes all the way inside the notebook's slot, the card's status/power lights come on, and the notebook recognized it as new hardware.

But the card won't go all way into the 4600C's PCMCIA slot; it does not fit snugly; the lights don't come on and the Dimension obviously does not see the card as installed hardware. A visual inspection of the PCMCIA slot, plus measurement with a paper ruler, seems to show that the PC Card is going in as far as the slot allows. The Dell Control Panel system reports that both slots are "working".

Is the PCMCIA slot of the 8600c shorter for some reason? Do I need a special PCMCIA wireless adapter? Could the power cable to the PCMCIA slots simply not be connected, after all? I bought the Linksys card to connect the 4600C to my wireless network; so far, no luck.

    Hi

First of all, it will be interesting to know, which OS is running on your unit.

Usually the PCMCIA slot is listed in the device manager. Did you already check that?

You can also check the BIOS settings. It is a very old machine, and I can’t remember, which settings are listed. If there is no any chance to make it works, I assume that can be some hardware malfunction.

    DB:3.31:Latitude D600 Pcmcia Slot Not Responding s9

I have XP Pro SP1 on Dell Latitude D600. I've been using a Verizon wireless modem with my system for some time now. One day I turned on the machine and suddenly nothing installed in the PCMCIA slot would be recognized. I've tried restarting with the device in and with it out, I tried hitting F2 at startup and checking if the slot had been enabled, I tried installing another card in the slot and nothing seems to get my PCMCIA slot to respond.

Does anyone have any ideas or had this occur to them?

    DB:3.31:Latitude D600 Pcmcia Slot Not Responding s9

    Dear all:
It seems as if all the Dell laptops lately (2003-2005) have the same problem of the PCMCIA slot not responding after 10-20 times of inserting and removing from the slot. This will be apparently a severe problem for all of the users with the wireless cardbus (Dlink...). One of the indication is that after couple months of using the wireless cardbus, the slot will not power up the card (no light blinking). You can run diagnostic on it (F12) and it will not recognize any card inserted into it.

Dell will resist to recognize the problem due to the cost of replacing the board and it hopes that the warranty will run out before the slot will fail. Anyone who has the laptop, should test the slot often within the warranty period and should not insert and remove the card after the warranty period is out.

It is good to know before hand when you buy a Dell laptop.

Keywords: PCMCIA, no power, not respond, problem to Dell laptops, wireless, slot, insert, not work after a while.

Are there other cards that will fit into the slot that will let me bring in audio? Thanks.

The Notebook is the 5150. All I really want to do is take music from a cassette running on a tape deck, and import it into the 5150 so I can create digital Wav or MP3 files to store on the 5150. Right now the tape deck is hooked up to a receiver. So, I guess I'll be taking a wire(s) from the receiver to whatever card I put into the slot on the notebook. I'll look into the cards that you mention. Thanks.

When I tried to insert the card into the slot it will not go in. I peeked into the slot and it looks like a much smaller footprint for the pin connection than is what is on my PCMCIA card. My card has a 68 pin connector, if I counted correctly. I looked on Wikipedia and found that 'Expresscards' have 26 pins.

Question: Can someone confirm that the interface for the L300 is for an Expresscard? I read the Toshiba user's guide and all it says is that the slot takes a PC card and says nothing about the connector.

I've got a newer digital Canon A1100 camera that uses an SD memory card with JPEG format photos.

Can I use a PCMCIA card adapter for the SD memory card and will it and the JPEG photos be recognized by my PowerBook G3 Wallstreet running OS 9.1? Or is it more complicated than that???

My Wallstreet read JPEGs from my older Canon A75 camera in this manner, but that camera uses a CompactFlash card with a PCMCIA card adapter. I just shove the card and adapter into the PCMCIA card slot and it appears on the desktop and the photos open perfectly. Works great with no additional software.

Will an SD card in a PCMCIA card adapter work the same no fuss manner?

    Thanks!

DB:3.21:Sd Memory Card In Pcmcia Card Slot? cm

Yep, its fine. Well it was many years ago on my PNG3 Lombard.

Had a CF PCMCIA card adapter too for my Nikon cameras and an SD card adapter for Canon. But I have something in the back of my mind that says to be wary of large capacity cards, ie. no more than 4GB. I'm sure I tried a 16GB CF card in a more recent PBG4 and all I got was the first 4GB.

Not sure where you can source such an adapter now, with so many cheap USB card readers available. You used to be able to even get a PCMCIA card adapter for Sony MemoryStick.

USB is the other option, but it will be painfully slow.
