This could be a problem with a malfunctioning middle mouse (scroll wheel) button.
You could try another or check the mouse driver in the control panel.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Try to set the mousewheel.withcontrol.action pref (on Mac mousewheel.with_meta.action) to 1 on the about:config page to avoid zooming if the Ctrl/Command key is pressed.

I frequently copy and paste URLs out of Firefox and into various Microsoft Office documents (Word, Powerpoint or Excel).

But recently, every now and then as soon as I get to Ctrl+C, Firefox crashes silently taking with it ALL the open tabs (sometimes a dozen or so!) There are no warnings, no crash reports, and when restarting firefox, no indication whatsoever that there has been a crash.

    Hi,

My concern is the video driver is not the root cause of the issue though
    it could be.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This ismy generic how to for proper driver updates :

This utility makes it easy to see which versions are loaded :

DriverView - Free -utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
description, version, product name, company that created the driver, and more.
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html

For Drivers check System Maker as fallbacks and Device Maker's which are the most current.
Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - write down the make and complete model
of your video adapter - double click - Driver's tab - write down the version info. Now click UPdate
Driver (this may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers) - then Right Click -
Uninstall - REBOOT this will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat that for Network - Network Card (NIC), Wifi, Sound, Mouse and Keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and any other major device drivers you have.

Now go to System Maker's site (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples)(as rollback) and then Device
Maker's site (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI as examples) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipsetand software updates at System Maker's site while there.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them- Right Click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in Device Manager - Drivers tab to be sure the version you are installing actually
shows up. This is because some drivers rollback before the latest is installed (sound drivers
particularly do this) so install a driver - reboot - check to be sure it is installed and repeat as
    needed.

Repeat at Device Makers - BTW atDeviceMakers DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - check
    manually by model.

Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm
Installing and updating drivers in Windows 7 (updating drivers manually using the methods above
is preferred to ensure the latest drivers from System maker and Device makers are found)
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

    Hope this helps.

    Chosen Solution

So, during the minute or two after opening Firefox, while Firefox is trying to restore your previous session?

When Firefox crashes, it usually records information about what was happening at that moment and display the Mozilla crash reporter. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes" (especially the last section) for steps to get those crash IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.

If that's not possible, have you tried Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

    Help Restart with Add-ons Disabled

If Firefox is closed: Hold down the shift key when starting Firefox.

In the small dialog that should eventually appear, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

If Firefox works better (is more stable) in Safe Mode, we could suggest various next steps based on that information. If it's just as bad, that would be good to know as well.

Any ideas why ctrl+Excel does not start Excel in safe mode?

I have tried press/holding Ctrl plus clicking the Excel icon on the Quick Launch part of the desktop taskbar.I have tried press/holding Ctrl plus double-clicking the Excel icon (not a file icon) on the desktop itself.I have tried press/holding Ctrl plus click Excel in Run All Programs Microsoft Office.I have tried press/holding Ctrl plus double-clicking the Excel icon under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11.

I have tried all of the above after restarting the sytem both in safe mode and normal mode.

The only thing that seems to work is Start Run "c:\program files\microsoft office\office11\excel.exe" /s.

The Ctrl key seems to work. For example, ctrl+End moves to the last nonblank data in a column. Simply pressing End does not.

I am pretty sure that ctrl+Excel did work not too long ago. Normally, I do run c:\....\excel.exe /s instead of relying on ctrl+Excel to start Excel in safe mode. But I am sure I experimented with ctrl+Excel some some months ago.

I do not believe I updated any software since then except the third-party firewall/virus software (NIS), which is disabled when I restart the system in safe mode. I suppose it is possible, albeit unlikely, that I did the SP3 update (12/2009) since then. Obviously
not my idea of "not too long ago"; I believe I tested ctrl+Excel more recently. But I confess that my sense of time might be off.

    I am using XL2003 SP3 on WinXP SP2.

DB:2.69:Why Ctrlexcel Does Not Start In Safe Mode sj

    I wrote:

Answer: I have to continue to press the Ctrl key until Excel has a chance to notice the key is pressed and asks whether or not to start in safe mode.

I was pressing the Ctrl key only for the time it took to click on the Excel program icon. I stopped pressing the Ctrl key as soon as I saw the hourglass indicating that Excel was loading. That was my mistake.

EDIT.... Interesting: I cannot mark my own response as "answer". Perhaps a moderator can do it for me.

It's not so much that Firefox crashes... it is that Firefox crashes my computer. Only when I run Firefox does this happen: If I leave the computer and the screen saver comes on, then when I bring it out of screen saver and click inside my Firefox browser, BAM! Blue screen. I get the IRQL_IS_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL message. Something about physical memory dump. The longer I have Firefox open the more likely this crash is. The more stuff I do in Firefox (streaming music) the more likely the crash is. Interestingly, it never crashes when I am actually using the computer or when it is in screen saver mode, only when I Ieave the machine idle, then bring it out of screen saver and go back to Firefox. Firefox has always done this on this machine, at least since I first installed it almost a year ago.

    Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.

Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

For Firefox versions previous to 29.0:

Go to Firefox Help Troubleshooting Information.
    Click the "Reset Firefox"

    button.
Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

    For Firefox 29.0 and above:

    Click the menu button

    , click help

and select Troubleshooting Information. Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox"

    . Click on it.
Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

    Thank you.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems. See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools Add-ons Extensions Plugins"

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

    DB:2.63:Firefox Crashes j9

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:

Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.

IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.

After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:

    (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.

Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.

Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:

Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Please report back to see if this helped you!

The same thing happens when trying to start in safe mode (holding the shift key down when starting Firefox).

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

    https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools Add-ons Extensions Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

    DB:2.61:Google Docs Crashes Firefox 3c

Firefox often crashes right after I use Google Docs statistics function (Ctrl-Shift-C) on a text document and then try to close statictics dialog with Enter or mouse click. Seems to happen much more often if the document is large.

This problem persists with all recent versions of Firefox, but only on Linux. Windows versions not affected. Sometimes Firefox crashes outright, sometimes just stops responding with high processor load, and sometimes it also shows empty dialog window with OK and Cancel buttons.

Resetting Firefox, disabling add-ons and so on have no effect on crashes.

Where is the cursor when you are trying to use Ctrl+Enter?

Does this only happen on the location bar or also in other text or input fields?
