    The url which you have shared says extended vlan used for internal vlan usage and that range is 1006 to 4094 then how come in this case it is used vlan 34?

    I have been trying to setup a PPTP VPN with the Cisco RV215w router and have discovered that CISCO won't permit a 192.168.1.x network when a PPTP VPN is setup.   I am well aware that I can't have an identical subnet at the other end, and have made  accommodations for that.  The copy machine people have installed some equipment and I don't have access to those machines to change the subnet on them. Hopefully there is a work around for this!

    Are you on the latest firmware (1.2.0.15)? If not, you are most likely running into bug (CSCuh20473).

    This bug does not allow you to add a zero to the local subnet.

    This is expected behaviour as the use of a link-local address as the next-hop is considered best practice. It It is mentioned in this draft:

    It is worth bearing in mind that most routing protocols use the link-local address for a next hop. This requirement is mentioned in another ITEF RFC:

    I have 2 ipv6 subnets. 2001::1/64(vlan56) and 2003::1/64(vlan93) on a cisco nexus. computers on each vlan can ping each other thru ipv6 with no problems. I can perform a net use from within a subnet but when going across subnets, I get the the network path
    was not found. This is what I'm doing

    Hi!
    Keep in mind that both NetBIOS and WINSare not compatible with IPv6! Perhaps you need to disablethese in your network...
    But now to your question: A) Check the routes on all corresponding systems! (route print / netsh.exe)
    B) A /64 route is actually a host route in IPv6! (Like a /32 in IPv4).
    C) The IPv6 address used in that NET USE statement looks weired! Normally, IPv6 addresses are surrounded by square brackets (s.th. like [2001:BFE:: ...] Furthermore, they have NO DNS suffix at all -- as they are IP addresses, right?
    D) Final thoughts: The addresses you stated are all Global IPv6 addresses. That means they might need to be enabled to pass firewalls (depending on the structure of your network). You might consider adressing the hosts using site-local addresses (FD00...),
    if they are at the same site...

    Our network is divided into VLANs for every floor of our building, Cisco 3750 being the core switch and Linksys SGE2000 as edge switches to every floor.

    Manage IP for the switches is 192.168.200.0/24

    The IP at the 10th floor is 192.168.10.0/24, gateway is 192.168.10.1

    IP of 6th floor is 192.168.6.0/24, gateway is 192.168.6.1

    Question is, can I use the IP network of the 10th floor as the secondary IP of the 6th floor?

    Hi,

    We just received an ipv6 connection from a provider. We already are setup with a /126 between us on our ROUTER-A and them over a 1gb link. We can ping their side and they can ping us via ipv6 address.

    Currently on the access router ROUTER-B we have individual servers in different vlans with ipv4 ips with gateways assigned in their vlan for them to connect.

    1) I want to know how I can assign them an ipv6 /48 so they can use on their host machine in their vlan. We have already been allocated a /32 ipv6 block from ARIN.

    Example:

    interface vlan 1

    ip address 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0

    ip address 10.10.11.1 255.255.255.0 secondary

    and then the client would have 10.10.10.2 - 254 /24 and 10.10.12.-254 /24 on thier server.

    If I wanted to do the same for ipv6, how would I do that? Would I just take the first address in the ipv6 /48 as I did in the ipv4 /24 above?

    Example if I had ipv6 block: 2001:49f0:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000

    would it be:

    I do not know a specific answer for your question. In general there is no hard limit on the number of secondary addresses that can be assigned to an interface. And I am not aware of any specific limit on the number of secondary addresses that can be specified in an HSRP environment.

    If you need more assurance on this matter perhaps you should open a case with the Cisco TAC.

    So it's simple, big building two different companies under one roof.  They share/use all Cisco SB switches and each have a UC560.  The primary 560 is utilizing VLAN 100 for voice so naturally we set the secondary 560 to use VLAN 101 for voice however we are having a difficult time having the secondary company phones sync up with the secondary call processor instead of the primary.  Seems if you set the secondary company phones to use VLAN 101 it does nothing.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi James,

    The issue you're running into is the auto voice vlan/smartport configurations on the switch.  Globally you can only configure auto voice vlan for one VLAN.

    What you can do is disable Smartports Globally.  I'm assuming Company A uses Voice Vlan 100 and Company B uses Voice VLAN 101. 

    For company A ports configure: Company A Data Vlan Untagged Vlan 100 Tagged.

    For company B ports configure: Company B Data Vlan Untagged Vlan 101 Tagged.

    Configure Auto Voice VLAN for vlan 100.  This should allow all phones for company A to work.

    In order to get the phones for company B to work you will have to go into the phone settings and manually set the Voice VLAN ID to 101.

    ---------------------------------------------

    This is much simpler if you don't have desktop PCs behind the phones as you can just set the interface where the phones are plugged into as Untagged in the appropriate Voice VLAN.

    I have a customer that has a scattered installation of HP ProCurve 4000M switches along with a majority of Cisco Switches.

    Can someone tell me if I can support a secondary vlan for IP Phones.

    I see that the HP switches support dot1q trunks and CDP.

    I imagine that the "auxilary" vlan isn't available though.

    Any ideas?

    it is a very important concern to install Telephony IP on HP switches cause VLAN ID must be fixed on all ip phones and ATAs. Imagine an implementation with 1000 ip phones.

    On ATAs is more complex to do it cause Opflags and VLANSettings must be fixed to static and the vlan to number the vlan belong.

    Does anybody test with GVRP HP protocol?

    does 'sho ssl-proxy' indicates everything is up ?

    does 'sho mod csm x vser name XXX detail' shows traffic coming in and a resposne from server ?

    Can you sniff the traffic to see if the client is receiving a SYN/ACK ?

    There are some debugging also possible on the SSLM to see traffic coming in.

Since the site only has 4 servers and no workstations, what kind of Cisco switch is appropriate to use at secondary site for the IPV6 tunnel? The sites are connected via T1.

    My question is how do i monitor the traffic going to firewall vlan from server/workstation vlans ?

    I read a quite a bit of old topics here in this forum but could not find anything matching though there were few coming close.

    So my idea is to configure new vlan say 151 and move the firewalls to the new vlan.Then do inline vlan pair on old firewall vlan 150 and new fw vlan 151.

    Any idea its going to work ? or can i simply do 2 vlan inline pairs for fw-server and fw-workstation vlans ? Also i understand that i have to configure trunking on switch ports ?

    I'm sur it's a routing problem, my 3750 switch don't do any routing, i only can access my directly connected subnet...

    The IPv6 prefixes used on Vlan30 and Vlan40 are unique local address (ULA) scope and are therefore not globally routable. You need to use prefixes from global unicast addresses (GUA) scope if you want users on Vlan30 and Vlan40 to have Internet connectivity. Have you been assigned GUA prefixes by your ISP?

    because we have around 1600 user in some vlan.

    I have heard that cisco used to recommend to have only one ip class per vlan.

    Is this still true?

    Is this realistic to use a A class for example 10.0.0.0/21 SM 255.255.248.0 DG 10.0.7.254 to have 2046 ip address with only one class per VLAN

    instead of 8 C CLASS/24?

    In term of performance (broadcast!) is this acceptable?

    Hello,

    We're trying to establish a site to site vpn between a RV215W (firmware version 1.0.0.16) and an ASA5510 (ASA 8.2(3)).  The ASA currently has 5 other IPSec VPN tunnels running.  It sure does look like I've dotted all my "i's" and crossed all my "t's" with respect to both sides of the tunnel.  What I'm seeing from the 5510 is that there is some sort of communication between the two devices but there is no IPSec tunnel established and no traffic is getting beyond either device.  It shows the RV215W connected but 0 bytes Tx and 0 bytes Rx.

    From the RV215W side of things it shows an IPSec SA not established.  The protocol is IKE and the encryption used is 3des.  Both sides have the same preshare key and are using the same settings.  From each device I can ping the public IP address of the other, but I get no further.  I believe I have ACL's set up to allow traffic from both internal networks.  (although I may not - I'm hardly a Cisco guru, just fumbling my way through this...)

    Any guidance/direction would be greatly appreciated.

    This is a little ,off topic ,since the device isnt a CISCO device ...just uses the ios. here is my problem I have a setup on a switch using ipv4 igmp for multicasting . I need to test how this works using IPv6 and MLD ...so I have nearly the same configuration except for the word ipv6 = ip and mld = igmp. Like I said this is identical.

    but when I try and stream from VLC using rtp://[ff15:1]:5004 I see that my listener reports go out but i don't seem to be getting added to the group? ... I know this set up should work because if I remove the lines

    and the traffic floods to all ports the stream starts playing in VLC ...

    Unfortunately our phone operator (Hi3G Denmark) has shipped the E3276 HiLink version, which seems not to be supported in the RV215W.

    I have reviewed the dongle list for Denmark support and you correct is not supported. If i may suggest try opening a support case with Small Business Support Center. Just keep in mind that demand for this particular dongle would have to be high to support it and add to list.

    I have a L3 switch , using it for carrier switch of physical wan connections and a Cisco 3825 my wan router. So i have twi Gigabit interfaces on the router. On one of them there are two sub-if with secondary address and tagged in one vlan going to the carrier switch. Now the problem is i want to isolate the traffic between two physical connections wich are flowing in that vlan. There are in one broadcast domain and i , have lack of interfaces on the router. Is therem probably some Vlan in Vlan encapsulatio ? Any ideas are welcome

    So the switch is used for the connections from the ISP. There is then link from the switch to the WAN router Cisco 3825. From the router to switch link there is vlan flowing with id for instance 45. On the switch there is vlan 45 with two ports 3 ports in this vlan. The idea is that from the router sub-if with two addresses traffic flow to switch and then on the switch take it's route on the separate physical connections to the ISP's. Therefore in the switch there are in one broadcast domain because of the vlan. I want to segment them , so one ISP don't see the traffic from the other connection.

    I've been bashing my head against the wall trying to do, what I think are, basic things with a vlan with these boxes.  I got it working once on a 110W a while ago, but not really sure how or why it is working / can't recreate it on the RV215W.

    At its simplest, I have a server on port 1 of the router, with IP of 192.168.5.2. It and PCs are tied into a switch and working on the 192.168.5.0/24 subnet.

    I connect a ubiquiti unifi wireless access point on port 2.  It can do 2 seperate SSIDs, each with its own vlan.  So let's call the SSIDs 5 and 10.  5 has a password. If you know that password / you connect to ssid 5 and can get on the web AND access the machines on port 1 (and would get an IP address of 192.168.5.0/24).  the public SSID of 10 would get IP of 192.168.10.0/24

    So SSID / VLAN / subnet 5 is to for the office people to access the server

    SSID / VLAN / Subnet 192.168.10.0 is for guests and to keep them from getting to the server.

    How do you set up the RVxxxW to allow this?

    For ubiqiiti unifi, there is a controller installed on the server (on the .5 subnet) that talks to the access points.  So the untagged packets on port 1 have to get to port 2 to get to the WAP.

    I had to enable interVlan routing.  Doesn't that allow the .10 users (on port 2) to get to the .5 server on port 1?

    In the instance I got working, I wound up having 3 VLANS - 1, 5, 10.  The 1 VLAN gave out 1.0 subnet IPs and the acecss points show they have the .1 IPs.  that is working but not sure how I came up with that and why there needs to be 3 subnets? 

    And on the RV215W I am working with no, it has intervlan check boxes for each VLAN.  Which to check and which to uncheck?

    I have locked myself out of / rebooted the RV215W too many times already : ). 

    How can I ensure not to lock myself out?

    I have configured Private VLAN on a Catalyst 6513 running Cisco IOS software.

    VLAN 20 is a primary VLAN and its associated secondary VLAN is VLAN 21 (isolated VLAN).

    A Nortel blade switch is connected to the Cat6513. How do I extend the PVLAN to the Nortel switch?

    If it were a Cisco switch, I will configure identical PVLAN configurations on the second switch. Then run an ordinary 802.1Q trunk between them.

    For Nortel switch, I have no idea.

    Please advise.

    I ha created in "service management" a new service (rsync on 873 start port and and port)

    After i had created a new access rules :

    Action : Always Allow

    Service : Rsync ( a service created in service management)

    Status : enable

    Connection type : inbound (Wan - Lan)

    source ip : single ip with outdoor serveur

    Destination ip : ip to NAS

    When i connected on outdoor server, i used telnet :

    telnet my_public_ip 873      and i cannot connect my NAS

    when i create a rule in "single port forwarding", my outdoor server can access on my NAS (but all outdoor customer can access on my NAS....)

    Do you have an idea?

    I have a Catalyst 3560G with IP Services in my lab that is configured for IPv4 IPv6 with the "desktop IPv4 and IPv6 routing" SDM template.  It is working perfectly in every way - routing IPv4 IPv6 with OSPF OSPFv3.  I have hit an issue with a pure layer-2 VLAN and the 3560 preventing IPv6 from working.

    I have a Cisco ASA 5505 also configured for IPv6 and also running OSPF OSPFv3.  As I don't have lots of switches both the inside outside interfaces are connected to the 3560G; the inside interface has an SVI on the 3560G but the outside doesn't, it is purely a layer-2 VLAN.  I have some hosts connected into this 3560G (actually VMware guests with the Hypervisor connected via 802.1q trunks so I can move guests onto different VLANs) and if I put the guest on the Outside VLAN IPv6 doesn't work.  The clients can't get a stateless address.  I put wireshark on and spanned the outside interface and I cannot see any IPv6 traffic originating from the ASA 5505.  As a test I put another one of the ASA 5505 switchports into the Outside VLAN and connected a PC directly and low and behold IPv6 springs into life.

    I realised I had seen this before with some WiFi access points that share a common VLAN through three 3560 PoE switches.  I only had one of these switches with an SVI interface for the VLAN mapped to the WiFi SSID.  When I enabled IPv6 on the SVI I had some odd IPv6 connectivity issues and it turned out that when an IPv6 capable device associated with the AP that was connected directly to the switch with the SVI IPv6 worked.  When it associated with one of the other APs IPv6 wouldn't work even though IPv4 did.  What I ended up doing was adding an SVI to each of the switches but only enabling IPv6 on the SVI.

    So I think I have discovered a bug with the Catalyst 3560G/3750G (and possibly the 10/100Mbps non-G versions).  All the switches are running 15.0(2)SE6 and I have had this issue for at least the last 3 software releases.

    Just now I fixed my own problem...for once.

    If you have a Cisco router behind NVG510 in IP passthrough follow these steps:

    1: Go to the gateway broadband status page. There you will find an IPV6 address and a border relay address.

    2: The IPV6 address is a /60 so go tohttp://www.gestioip.net/cgi-bin/subnet_calculator.​cgi and subnet it into /64 networks.

    3: Create a 6to4 tunnel on the cisco router.

    Router(config)# interface tunnel (tunnel number here ei 0)

    Router(config-if)# tunnel mode ipv6ip

    Router(config-if)# tunnel destination (border relay address here ei 1.2.3.4)

    Ok, so now you will assign the first ip of the first subnet here (2602:x:x:x::1/64)

    Router(config-if)# ipv6 address 2602:x:x:x::1/64

    Router(config-if)# exit

    4: Add the first ip from the second subnet to your inside facing interface (vlan 2 for me)

    Router(config)# interface vlan 2

    Router(config-if)# ipv6 address 2602:x:x:x:1::1/64

    Configure the interface for client autoconfig

    Router(config-if)# ipv6 nd other-config-flag

    Router(config-if)# exit

    Router(config)#

    4: Set the default IPV6 route to be the tunnel interface

    Router(config)# ipv6 route ::0/0 tunnel 0

    5: Enjoy IPV6

    Side note: If you have an 802.11N-draft access point, you may need to drop to 802.11g mode in order for ipv6 autoconfig to work on your computers (My experience with Linksys WRT120N)

    It was reported elsewhere that the OMF Feature (Optimised Multicast Flooding) when enabled on a Vlan, as is the default case, interferes with the fundamental IPv6 NDP mechanism.  The activation of this feature on a Vlan on the Nexus 7000 environment stops the flooding of ethernet frames with a destination MAC address 3333.ff00.0080 (for example) while letting destination MAC addresses like 3333.0000.0012 through.   This in effect disables the IPv6 neighbor solicitation mechanism.  So to allow NDP to work in order to allow the most fundamental IPv6 communication between LAN stations, as described in Cisco documentation on multicast, the OMF has to be turned off at least in the Vlan where IPv6 is being used.

    My question is the following:  What does this OMF do exactly (couldn't find a decent decription of the feature anywhere) and what dangers arise when it is turned off ? And remember it must be turned off for IPv6 to work!  Is there some other less radical way of allowing the multicast frames through without turning OMF off.  OMF is also then turned off for IPv4 and it might be needed for IPv4 if not for IPv6.

    Depending on your design and configuration, this may not be a problem if the source is routed to an RP or your sources sit in appropriately sized VLANs (based on IP(v6) mask and/or number of hosts).  With IPv4, our multicast sources are on their own /27.  With IPv6, they'd live on a /64, but you can limit the hosts on that network to multicast source only and keep the number low so traffic won't impact other hosts / servers.

    I configured standby on my 2 Cisco 3750 Switches to migrate a default gateway address in the event of loss of communications.  I tied the Stand By to a sla ping that is hitting an outside gateway.  The issue that I'm running into is that both switches seem to be working but in the event that I turn off the path out of the primary path, the failover doesn't seem to happen but once.  If I try to get it to fail back over or repeat the same process the IP address stays with the primary switch.  Could someone please look at these configurations and tell me what I'm doing wrong?  Also, is there a way software test the fail over instead of having to actually turn off a port within the path out?  Thanks again.

    Hi All,

    Recently I bought RV215W router and after installing it in my home network; I started experiencing very slow internet connection over wi-fi. Wired connection to this router are working fine. After several hours of trouble shooting, I am able to isolate the slow internet issue to Wirelss N connection. Wireless b/g works fine.

    Router is using 1.0.0.16 firmware. I tried to check is there any latest firmware upgrade for this device. Couldn't find any firmware related information in cisco web site.

    One another point related to USB WAN; I am not using any USB for 3G connection. USB indicator is keep on blinking. Does it cause any impact?

    Any pointers to this issue is appreciated.

You can search google to see many of the same complaints for about every vendor's forum and some tech blogs, etc. The intention of it is good, but overall, it is one bad things Apple has released upon the world that somehow became standardized.

    I am trying to seperate different ports into seperate VLANs. I want no vlan to talk to each other unless otherwise specifically stated. From my understanding, normal VLAN's can talk to each other unless you have a ACL on attached to the VLAN? Also, with PVLAN, if they are seperate secondary VLAN they can talk to each other as long as they are under the same primary VLAN? Again, controlled by ACL? Any help would be appreciated?

    Devices in different VLANs cannot communicate with each other by default. To do this, you would need to configure layer 3 VLAN interfaces for each VLAN and enable inter vlan routing. If you do so, you will need to use ACLs to control traffic.

    With PVLAN, you have concept of Isolated VLAN which is a secondary VLAN and members of Isolated VLAN cannot talk to any other device other than promiscuous port. The following page should help(written for 6500 but concept is the same)

    I am trying to configure a network for routing IPv6 on my SG300

    Main requirements:

    - The purpose of the network is for a Lab

    - The use of IPv6 Unique local addresses should be used

    - Leverage separate IPv6 subnets and vlans

    (I am aware that broadcasts are no more with IPv6, but I still want to separate my IPv6 address space with subnets and leverage vlans)

    - L3 Inter-vlan routing should be leveraged at the switch

     

    Cisco SG300-10 Switch Notes:

    - It appears that even though I can only add three IPv6 interfaces

    - Each interface is using the same link local address

    - One can not edit/delete/modify the link local address of an interface

    - It appears that one can not add a unique local address (ULA) as only Local, Global, and anycast are given  which forces me to add the ULA address as a Global address or an Anycast address

    Cisco RVxxx Router Notes:

    - It appears that only one IPv6 address can be created

    - How does one associate an IPv6 with a VLAN?

    - I dont know if the IPv6 DHCP will hand out address from the pools to the appropriate interfaces on the SG300

    Note:

    - The SG300 appears limited in its IPv6 abilities, I do not have a Cisco RV series router, but one is being looked into, if it can do what I want

     

    If I had to "possibly" pull this off, I think this is what "might" meet my objectives

    What I need to know is the following example will work to meet them?

    If not is there something that I configure differently to do that?

    I am attempting to use an ASA as an edge device with other devices behind it.  I am unable to get those devices to contact any ipv6 hosts through the ASA.

    I've acquired IPv6 space from my provider, and (modified IPs) am basically doing this:

    ISP:

    2001:4871:c140::1/64

    interface GigabitEthernet0/0.66 vlan 66 nameif twtc security-level 1 ipv6 address 2001:4871:c140::2/64

    This interface seems to work fine:

    ASA# ping 2001:4871:c140::1 repeat 100Type escape sequence to abort.Sending 100, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 2001:4871:c140::1, timeout is 2 seconds:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Success rate is 100 percent (100/100), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/2/20 ms

    So, then I added IPv6 address to a VLAN, and internal Cisco 4500:

    ASA:

    Cisco 4500:

    This interface seems to work fine:

    4500#ping 2001:4870:C14E::20:2

    Type escape sequence to abort.Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 2001:4870:C14E::20:2, timeout is 2 seconds:!!!!!Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 0/1/4 ms

    Lastly, I added another IPv6 address to another vlan on the 4500.

    interface Vlan400 ip address 192.168.74.29 255.255.255.0 secondary ip address 192.168.74.1 255.255.255.0 no ip redirects ipv6 address 2001:4871:C14E:AAAA::400:1/56 ipv6 nd other-config-flag

    And I've added this IPv6 address to a server:

    All devices connected at layer 2 can communicate with each other just fine.

    The server (2001:4871:c14e:aaaa::400:8) can ping the ASA (2001:4871:c14e::20:1) through the 4500.

    However, the server cannot ping the ISP address or the ASA edge address

    (2001:4871:c140::1 and 2001:4871:c140::2, respectively)

    A tcpdump shows that there isn't even an echo reply that is being sent back through the ASA:

    I'm not sure what else to do or try.  Unicast routing is enabled on both the ASA and the 4500.  (The 4500 is working, in order to get to the ASA)

    If it is acting as L3 then to connect to a router you can simply create a routed port on the switch eg.

    switch

    int gi0/0 -- this connects to router

    no switchport

    ip address 192.168.5.1 255.255.255.252

    broacade

    ip address 192.168.5.2 255.255.255.252

    then either use static routes between the two or run a routing protocol eg. OSPF

    this would be fine for user traffic.

    For management you could use a loopback on the L3 switch. Don't know about the brocade.

    If the switch is L2 then do you want to route the vlans off the brocade ?

    If so with a Cisco router you would connect the switch with a trunk and then create subinterfaces per vlan on the router.

    But i have no idea whether this is the way to do it on a brocade.

    So it really depends on whether the switch just has vlans but is not routing for them (L2) or whether it has vlans and is also doing inter vlan routiing (L3).

    I have upgraded to FW 1.3.5.58 about 2 months ago.  Everything seems to be working as expected.  Just recently, I noticed that If I rebooted one of my IP phones that is powerd from the switch, no DHCP lease.  I currently have this connected to a Cisco 891 router which is doing the DHCP server function.  My voice vlan (200) and client vlan (100) both get DHCP this way.  I have had no issues with DHCP on the vlan 100, and was just noticing the issue with vlan 200.

    So, I go to manage the switch, and I get no connectivity.  I have a management vlan (1) which is how I usually manage the switch, but cant ping the address.  the SG300 is doing L3 routing so I have an address on Vlan 100 as well, cannot ping that either.  Other than this, my network has been working like normal.  The odd thing is that I have vlan 1 and vlan 100 dual stacked with IPV6.  I can connect to each of the vlan 1 and vlan 100 IPV6 addresses.  When I log into the switch via IPV6, everything looks normal, no indication of issues in the logs.

    Getting frustrated, I end up rebooting the switch.  LIke magic, I can ping V4 vlan 1 and V4 vlan 100, everything looks good.  DHCP passing to the 891 for vlan 200, phones are getting addresses.

    24 hours later, I go to check the vlan 1 V4 connectivity, and nothing.  Vlan 100, nothing.  Reboot the switch again, works great.

    Im noticing a lot of threads about ARP and seems like I could be running into this issue as well.  I recently downgrades to 1.3.0.62.  Ill watch that for a day or 2 and see how it does.

    On all of our SG300-28P switches are doing this, the management interface is hanging sometime between a few hours to a few days after reboot.  When this occurs the switch continues to function, but the management IP does not respond to pings, http or ssh connections.  If I connect via serial cable, the switch is unable to ping out with an error "Ping: unable-to-send".

     

    I'm running the current firmware version 1.3.7.18.  Is this a known bug?  Are there any specific configs that trigger this bug?  Are there any specific configs that might trigger this bug?  An unreachable sntp or syslog server?

     

    Comparing sh tech between dead and working mgt interfaces, I only see this difference

    I have 2 Cisco 3750 switches. I've trunked a port on each switch to pass vlan information between them. Lets call them Switch A (primary) switch B (secondary).

    Note: I have VTP in transparent mode, I have been instructed not to use VTP mode so that configuration is out of the mix.

    My vlan is vlan 5. I was able to add vlan5 to my trunk port on switch A (verified), but that's as far as I got.

    How do I go about adding vlan5 to switch B's trunk port with out using VTP?

    As per checking using comand 'show ip cache verbose flow', I cannot foundany IPv6 netflow traffic are being cached in the devices but when I issue another command 'show mls netflow ipv6', I can found the IPv6 netflow being captured in the MLS.  By the way, can I know how to export the MLS ipv6 netflow data to the collector utility as I found the exported netlfow seem to be came from flow cache only with the above command.  Please advise any additonal command is required to enable this request ?

    Your config looks good. "sh mls nde" shows that the router is exported some data. You can track those packets by connecting to the SP:

    1. clear mls stati
    2. do 10000 ping from source to destination.
    3. run "sh mls stati"  and "sh mls netflow ipv6", if the packets are
    hardware switched, we should be able to see it in the output.
    4. For v9 netflow packets, we need to run "sh ip flow export" on SP to
    check the export status/stats.
           #remote login switch
       SP#sh ip flow export
    5. you may turn on debug in SP to check if the packet been sent out.
         #remote login switch
        SP# debug ip flow export

    also by default, an on-going flow (like continuous ping) will be exported every 36mn and you will not see the flow itself in the netflow packets but only some stats and infos regarding the flow in the payload.

    Again, make sure your collector supports Netflow V9 and IPv6.

    There are also some restriction associated to IPv6 support for Netflow on this box. Following is not supported:

    Aggregation support (ip flow-aggregation cache command)Export of Layer 2 switched IPv6 flowsNetflow and NDE samplingNDE filter supporttraffic not forwarded in HW

    I pulled out one of our 300 series switches and looked at the layer three settings to see if I could find something out for you.  Based on the inerface, you can only enable one ipv6 interface on the device.  So with that being said, ipv6 routing is not support on the device yet.  Hopefully this helps you out.

    We have verified that the vCenter dVS uplinks are active and are on the correct 1000v portgroup.  We've even removed the hosts from the dVS, removed the VEM component, and added the host back to the dVS which spawned a fresh install of the VEM.  To no avail.  This configuration looks solid end-to-end but something is being missed.  Why would the other 2 VEMs communicate just fine over the same network?  And why do we see the missing VEMs being recognized by the VSM but then disappear?

    As a side note, I noticed that the startup config of the VSM shows 4 ehternet interfaces which inherit the 1000v-uplink port-profile but they are not present in the running config.  Clearly these are the uplink interfaces for the missing VEMs - they just don't seem to stay active.  Here's some additional info but let me know if I can provide anything else:

    All,

    It turns out that the UCS VLANs needed to be defined in  the LAN Uplinks Manager because we have two separate uplink pingroups  per fabric. Having VLANs defined on the VNICs and the VNICs associated  to uplink paths wasn't enough.  The connectivity inconsistencies we  witnessed (the VEMs initial connection to the VSM and MAC addresses not  being learned in UCS or the core) were most likely caused by ARP requests being sent over the wrong broadcast link and thus being discarded.  And while half the VEMs were registered and working with the VSM, they could have eventually stopped working if their ARP requests were sent up the wrong path.

    Notes:

    There is the primary subnet 130.194.13.0/26 and the secondary IP subnet 130.194.19.192/27

    The nat-pool is configured to allow server initiated connections to their frontend VIP when necessary.

    We are noticing that when a server on the 130.194.19.192/27 subnet needs to communicate with a server on 130.194.13.0/26, albeit on the same VLAN, the destination server sees connections with a source IP of 172.16.25.231, which is the NAT address.  Is this expected behavior, where connections between IP subnets, albeit on the same VLAN are NATed?

    Hi Sheldon,

    Normally you should not need NAT but if you have a service policy applied which matches the conditions you have defined in class maps, the NAT will be applied.

    You have mentioned that NAT pool is configured for server initiated conns and that must be the reason why traffic is getting natted because it must be matching the statement.

    DUT------router(7600)------Sami module (slot 9)

    I have both ipv4 and Ipv6 config on all the three hops.

    Between Cisco and Sami module, I have the Ip config on vlan interface 1400(say). Its not on a physical interface obviously

    I can ping ipv5 from DUT to Sami IPv4 address. But Ipv6 doesnt work.

    Also.If I add a sttic route to DUT network on SAMI, show ipv6 route does not show it.

    Am I missing any config? Please help

    My customer has ASAs running 8.2.1, we will migrate from IPV4 to IPV6, however we want to know which is the recommended version for IPV6.

     

    There are the features that we would like the ASAs to have. I just saw that on version 9.0.1 OSPFv3 is supported, but couldn't find RIP, QoS, CEF, etc on the release notes. Does anyone can recommend a version? If so, from 8.2.1 to 9.X.X do we need more RAM, CPU, etc to upgrade?

    Hi Udayraj.  Unfortunately, cellular Internet access here in the US is not as prevalent as it is there in India.  Hence, there probably won't be any update to the router anytime soon.  My suggestion would be to use a supported usb modem or to get a different router to connect to the modem and then connect that router to the rv215.  Good luck!

    It is only supported in the 12.0(22), 12.0(21)ST, 12.2(2)T train and upwards, the S trains are generally for Service Providers.

    A switch with a MSFC/RSM will not handle this IOS (Specifically the T train), so it would be best to have an external router 2600 etc running 12.2(X)T train and config a 6 to 4 relay on the 2600.

    I really appreciate if anyone can help with this issue. I have a Cisco CME that acts as a router and DHCP server. On the CME I setup 2 VLANs, 15 and 40 for phone and devices with the following subnets: 172.16.2.0 and 172.16.40.0. I have 2 DHCP pools on the CME as below:

    I connect the Catalys 2960 switch to the CME and created a trunk port for both. I also created 2 VLAN 15 and 40 and assigned the ports to the right VLAN. Please see configuration below. While I have no problem getting IP address for devices connected to VLAN 15, I don't get any IP for devices connected to ports on VLAN 40. Also I am not sure why the new VLAN 40 that I created on the CME didn't show under "Vlans allowed and active in management domain". Is it because right now I don't have any device connected to VLAN 40? I did the "shut and no shut" several time on VLAN 40 interface but it didn't work. We know that the trunk is fine because we can get IP on the other VLAN. Below is the configuration for the CME and the switch. I removed the phone configuration parts.

      No do not get rid of the l3 SVI for vlan 40 , just make sure vlan 40 is in the L2 vlan database on CME . Vlan 40 must be defined on both sides to work across the trunk  .  If it already is in the vlan database then I am not sure why it would not show up.  Just by your displays it just does not look like it is currently in the database.   Just try to add it like you have shown below .  Yes you do need a layer 3 SVI for vlan 40 on CME for dhcp to work.

    I have a cisco catalyst 3020, and am in the process of attempting to set up IPv6 stateless DHCP.

    The 3020 is configured as follows:sdm prefer dual-ipv4-and-ipv6 vlan

    g0/17 : switchport access vlan 13

    g0/11 : switchport mode trunk

    The other router (which I cannot access / configure), f0/15 is (based on a network diagram), configured to vlan 2, no inbound acl, outbound acl 141, a xxxx:xxxx:x:x:: /64 prefix, and configured for IPv6Stateless DHCP.

    Sadly beyond this I'm already getting lost:

    The intent is to configure g0/11 to have IPv4 off vlan 13, and IPv6 off vlan 2, and to use those vlans in managing networks within vCenter4.If this is not possible, I would greatly appreciate the heads up.

    As an alternative, would I be able to pass the vlan 2 from g0/19 to g0/11, and then configure things within a vmware distributed switch / virtual network configuration where I have more control?

    Hello Aaron,

    IPv6 allows and usually expects multiple IPv6 addresses to be associated to a single NIC without the fix of secondary ip addresses.

    There are different types of unicast IP addresses with different scopes:

    link local : used only on a single link, no IPv4 equivalent they help the neighbor discovert process, duplicated address detection and so on.

    ex site local now unique local addresses: these are not public but their scope can be company wide similar to RFC 1918 private ip addresses.

    unique local addressing (ULA) in RFC 4193 (FC00::/7)

    Aggregatable Global unicast addresses: these are true public addresses

    in your case:

    2001:410:5:: this is a public address tha probably the vmware box has in its config in some way.

    FD3B:1300:3:0:: /64

    I would say this is a unique local FD matches FC with a mask of 7 bits.

    The server needs to see router advertisements in order for stateless autoconfiguration to work

    You need an IPv6 router connected to vlan2 and sending ICMPv6 router advertisements where prefix FD3B:1300:3:0:: /64 is advertised as a on wire prefix that can be used.

    All the messages involved in the process are L2 multicast packets (using a  different range of multicast L2 MAC addresses not the ones used by IPv4 that are under IGMP snooping control)

    I would do the following:

    to another port of the blade switch placed in vlan2 I would connect a laptop with ethereal or wireshark running to see if Router advertisements are received on the port

    I have a Sierra 320U USB dongle (banded Netgear/Telstra) connected to an RV215W with firmware 1.1.0.5 but if I upgrade the RV215W to the latest version 1.2.0.14 it will not connect.

    The telco I am connecting to is Telstra

    Thanks for all, so I finished the transition part.

    I have another question, in IPv6 but it's about a Freeradius configuration (failed to bind IP address) in command line, I'll be back if it doesn't work on the router configuration.
