I just got comcast and a any room dvr. I have another dvr box but when I click on my dvr it shows that there are no shared programs. My main dvr does have recordings. Is there something else I am suppose to do. I can get on demand but not my dvr recordings.

    DB:4.35:Any Room Dvr Questions pa

so you have things recorded on the main dvr and you go to the slave boxes in the other room and you are not able to see any recordings? correct? try this, unplug the main dvr, then go unplug the slaves one by one, wait two minutes, then plug in the main then each slave. Now see if that does anything. if not call comcast they might not have this set up correctly on your account.

The cost can be different by area, but generally it's $19.95 for the anyroom DVR and $9.95 for additional boxes. You also have have it installed for a fee of $30.00.

I have three receivers, two HD DVR's and one HD Receiver and an AM 21 for OTA reception. I want to add an additional HD DVR to my Living room, but I don't have any cables going to the living room. How many cables are needed to connect a new HD DVR receiver in my Living Room? Also would I be better off financially doing the Whole House Cinema option? I was told I would need to get a new HD Receiver, but I could keep my existing HD DVR receivers.

    DB:3.85:New Cable Run Questions xc

If you do not get a Whole Home system, then you already have 5 tuners and want to add two more, thus you'll need a Zinwell WB68 multiswitch. You should currently have one but may be running one of the DVR's with a single tuner setup. The Zinwell takes the 4 feeds from the conventional dish and provides eight outputs. On the other hand, the Whole Home uses a SWM dish which already has an eight tuner capability.

Set everything up and according to the MRDVR Troubleshooting wizard the one in the living room is the one that is enabled. I believe this to mean that programs I record on this one should be viewable elsewhere. Figured I'd give it a couple days but still no luck today.

To clarify, you have two DVRs only? Until you get IMG 1.9 you can only view the Multi-room DVR content locally or on remote STBs, not remote DVRs.

Each will record what you set it to record. If you want both to record the same programs you have to set both to record those programs. You may or may not be able to transfer a card from one receiver to another, but in any case you have to call DirecTV to do it, you can't just move the card. If you get a receiver without a card, they may require you to get a new card for it ($20.00).

I have 3 STBs: 2 HD DVRs and 1 HD STB. Can I get DVR A to recognize DVR B and vice versa, such that I can watch programs recorded on either DVR on the other DVR or other STB?

Background - very frustrated because I was told a few years back that FIOS didn't support MRDVR + DVR together, so I went with DVR + DVR in my house. Then 10 days ago when VZ replaced one of my DVRs (they thought it might be the root of ONDMD issues), after activation it would not act as a DVR so I called support. They finally got it to act as a DVR, and on top of that, got it to recognize the other DVR's recordings and vice versa. This worked marvelously for2-3 days. I went out of town for a week and upon return, the newer DVR (7232) wouldn't record any more, but would recognize the older DVR (7216). I called support again, and they said I can't have both set to be MRDVR. So they undid it and now I'm back to DVR + DVR but wondering how it worked OK for a few days. Any ideas? I'd really like to go back to having one DVR see the other and vice versa.

I have been having the same issue with somepixelation while fast forwarding then stopping a recorded program and audio/video out of sync when watching recorded shows on another STB from the multi room DVR. After having both STBs exchanged and signal strength checked out by a technician, I was finally told this a continuing problem in some areas (Dallas being one of those areas) and that the next upgrade will hopefully fix this problem. They did not give me an ETA for the next roll out, but I'm hoping the problem will be fixed after that.

    Hello Everyone,

I am contemplating switching to DirecTV this June. I have a few questions that I would like to ask.

    1) What is the top-of-the-line HD DVR provided by DirecTV? I'd like to download the manual and read it, but I don't know which to choose.

    2) What is the HD recording capacity of this HD DVR?

    3) Does it support an external hard drive as extra recording space?

    4) Does it only support recording two shows at once, or is there an option for an OTA antenna and built-in tuner? I can currently record with 3 tuners (2 sat - 1 OTA) and watch two separate shows (living room/bedroom - bedroom is not in HD) all at the same time from my single HD DVR.

    5) Does the DVR support searching on keyword(s) and allow you to set timer(s) from the results?

    6) My parents have a standard DirecTV receiver. Is there any way to disable those annoying ad banners that periodically appear in the guide?

    7) Can DVR recordings be saved in user-defined groups (Bill, Kids, etc.)? Are the recordings also sorted within those groups by name/DVR date, etc.? Are these all user-defined options for sorting?

    8) Does the DVR support PIP internally? If so, can you swap the PIP left/right, etc.?

I will appreciate any responses provided. Thank you.

Can anyone tell me how to network the boxes for the any room dvr? Why does a comcast tech have to do it?

    DB:3.41:Any Room Dvr ka

Usually each TV outlet is home run to a central location where the splitter is. Between the input of the splitter and the ground block, the MOCA filter is placed. The MOCA filter prevents the MOCA signals from leaving the house, and helps reflect the MOCA signal back to the equipment.

Everything is networked with regular coax cabling between the Master DVR and the satellite boxes.

If the coax wiring in the home is old and daisy chained, that makes it more difficult and might not be possible without a rewire.

The tech willconfirm that the signals including the MOCA signal is strong enough for the satellite boxes to operate. The tech also has to program the boxes to communicate with each other, then test that they do talk to the master DVR.

When I subscribe to Comcast at my new address, Comcast agent offered a package that includes any room DVR.

After months of being billed for months for an extra line item on my bill with$10 with "Any Room DVR"; and I called COMCASTto question why I can't get the any room DVR to workand was put on hold for 50 minutes.

Then the lady who finally answered my call told me that I do not have any room DVR serviceand the two transmitters I have are NOT any room DVR. I asked her to remove the extra charge and reimburse me for last five months for the extra $10 on my bill with the line item "Any Room DVR". She then told me that extra bill line item with "ANY ROOM DVR" charge of $10 is not for any room DVR. Please reimburse my account and take out the extra line item of $10 for "ANY ROOM DVR"; becaause I do not have any room DVR.

I had similar problem as yours, except mime use cables connect from RG to DVR/STB.

The viewing on DVR is OK (close to RG), but to STB one was sometimes freezed/paused

The technician replaced the splitter located in the crawl space, then the problem improved a lot, but not quite completely fix it (more acceptable, still a bit annoying)

The technician said a wrong type of splitter was used.

Do you have tohave a newer dvr and or different service for the "anyroom dvr" or is it available to anyone with the comcast dvr?

    DB:3.28:Any Room Dvr 97

It would be extremely doubful these days with so many expensive DVR's and settop boxesin place to pull everything out and replace it. In the 80's 90's they used to when boxes were cheap, but it would be rare especially in a large system.

I could seethem doing it in a small system that they would shut down the existing SA headend and tie the system to a nearby Moto headend, but there are not many area's that can be done with. The larger the system, the less chance of it ever happening.

Most major MSO's run both brands of equipment in different areas.

You would never seen an official answer from Comcast on major equipment changes. Comcast is concentrating on getting the new features on the SA systems, it's easier and cheaper the change the software than the hardware.

One question - any picture quality issues on the Non-DVR units while watching recorded programming? Multi-room DVR is one of the features I really want. DTV is now in beta for this, but what I have seen, the PQ is sporadic. Lots of dropouts and audio stuttering.

Next question is overall HD PQ. How does it compare with DTV's picture?

As long as you're wiring is done correctly the only Difference you will notice between the DVR and Non DVR on recorded content is not being able to set recordings or delete recordings. Otherwise picture quality and fast forward/rewind is the same.

I went from DirecTV to Uverse. DirecTV's HD is better. It isn't better enough to justify the price difference. I dont' know if you had DirecTV before they switched to Mpeg4 for HDTV, but even DirecTV's picture quality went down when they moved from Mpeg2 to Mpeg4 compression.

Checking the list recordings found all six units. It seems the display screen for the status check is limited to 5 units on the output displays.

I thought it might have been specific to the firmware release I was using at the time and it has been reported under that context.

As for a splitter, I was told the X1 system would not tolerate splitters due to it's high power requirements. As I understand it the HD companion boxes communicate with the DVR over the coax cables installed and they need to be at least RG6 cables. I found out that RG59 cables just will not work for the X1 system. I believe the problem with programs returning to the beginning before being watched completely must be a software issue with the DVR. Hopefully Comcast will address this issue soon.

I just got Fios yesterday and I'm testing out and trying to get an idea of how exactly the Multi Room DVR works.

It looks like I can play 1 HD recording on a remote STB, but If I try to start another HD show off the DVR on a different remote STB, I get an error.

But, I can still watch an HD show recorded off the DVR on the DVR itself while it's streaming another HD show to a remote STB.

So, if that's the case, I probably do want to put the DVR on the TV that gets the most use, right? That way, I can still stream an HD show to another STB. While watching something off the DVR on the DVR box itself.

    Do I understand it correctly?

    DB:3.18:Multi-Room Dvr Question 37

I have not had this service in awhile. I got rid of it because it was buggy (for HD) and because the lack of HD recording capacity does not make it a practical solution to a multiple DVR setup. I currently have 3 DVRs and could probably get away with 2 DVRs and 1 HD receiver and make one of the DVRs a multi room DVR (this only saves a few bucks but adds a little convenience for the DVR I do not use often).

    Questions:

    1. Is HD streaming still buggy.

    2. Can you stream from the main multi-room DVR to another DVR or does it still have to be a non-DVR receiver? I would like to stream from the other DVR and the HD receiver.

    Solved!

I will chime in here and say that since the 1.7 release the multi-room functionality has improved dramatically. My wife uses it mostly and says that you would never know you are NOT on the DVR STB. Now keep in mind that our other receivers are SD boxes which means we can only watch SD shows. I'm not sure the quality of watching HD shows.

    Hi,

I just had Xfinity installed with HD DVR's, and I had two questions:

    1) Why would they install DVR's that are not compatible with the XFINITY TV app?

    2) I'm literally 15 miles from the Comcast building in Philly and the multi-room DVR option is not available. Why is this?

    Thanks,

Power cycle both boxes, unplug them both, power up the DVR first, then the satellite boxes. If you still can't access the recordings, then it would be best to contact Comcast support to determine if it's a equipment issue, wiring issue or coding issue.

I just ordered FIOS and was promised by the sales person that came to my door that a dvr that would hold 300 standard recording hours and 88 HD recording hours. I called verizon to verify this and I can not get a straight answer. I see on the verizon website the 2 different type dvrs from Motorola. The 160 GB drive and the 500 GB drive. I read many threads and even the 500 GB disk will not meet the numbers quoted to me by the sales person. The only way I know to get the recording hours promised is to add an external SATA drive to the DVR.

I have called Verizon 2 times and can not get any answers to this question. They can not tell me the type dvr that will arrive on install day. They can only say that I will get a multi room dvr and a standard dvr. I need 2 of these dvrs since my wife sometimes records 4 shows at the same time. I also tried to contact the Verizon installer to get answers and no response.

Can anyone clarify any of this for me before I cancel my order ?

Suggest you make sure the technician gives you a 7232 or a 7216 that has had the 160 GB har drive replaced with a 500 GB drive -- which should be the case if it is a refurbished unit.

Perhaps try to reset the router. Then do a power down reset the STBs after the Internet light turns green. After the router comes back online, reset the DVR first by unpluging it for a few minutes.Message Edited by prisaz on 05-09-2009 08:20 AM

I spent several days and hours on the phone with various Comcast departments and FINALLY determined why I was having the same problem all of a sudden. Turns out that you need the "Any Room" billing code on your account and it needs to be ASSIGNED to your secondary satellite DVR in order for it to communicate with your main DVR. The code was on my account, but during an update, when it was determined that this code was not assigned to anything, it was automatically deleted. Had to get the code assigned, hard reboot of the secondary DVR, and it works! Hope that helps someone else out there save the hours of hassle I went through.

Yeah I personally don't think so. You spend what 400 bucks on it. Then a monthly price on the tivo service, and monthly cable card service.

It's expensive up front, but you cannot deny it really does provide a solution to so many customer's complaints about current VZ offerings.

Drive space: Tivo + 1TB drives wins hands down.

Guide: Tivo easily beats VZ's guide hands down.

DVR software: Tivo is relatively bug free compared to VZ's lame firmware. 1.6.2 will hopefully help, but this took way too long to be released and shows VZ's lack of dedication to current/future customers.

Multiple DVR support: Yup... stream recorded shows back and forth all you want. VZ can't do this.

Dump your recorded shows to PC: Tivo supports this too.

So... I personally do think so. Tivo service + cable card = VZ's monthly DVR service. It's just the initial investment of the box that is the difference. So just ask your self if Tivo's advantages are worth it.

Not currently. The next level of the IMG (1.9) is planned to have that function. The new level is currently being beta tested and will be available sometime in the not too distant future. Verizon has not announced any availability date for the new level, so all we can do for now is wait, but it will probably be some time this quarter.

Remember that you must also have multiroom functionality enabled in your subscription settings;this must be done over the phone. If you had multi-roomfunctionality with the oldboxes, you should be OK.

With respect to multi-room recording using a single box, or both boxes individually, see below.

    3. Question not 100% clear. Yes, you can record the same program on both DVRs, provided that you schedule the recording on the DVR where you want it recorded. I don't believe that you can record the same content twice, once on each box, if you arescheduling from a single box.

It is my understanding that scheduling from a single box will only give you the option to record on your chosen DVR if the scheduling DVR doesn't have sufficient space for the scheduled recording (hope that's clear enough). I am not sure how this will work when scheduling using MyVerizon online, but it's worth checking. Each box should be listed individually online.

    4. For starters, type "DVR" into the "Ask the Community" search box at the top of the page. Thereare many references, but probably not a complete all-in-one guide in one particular place. The user "lacticacidtrip" has made many informative posts on these forums regarding DVR menus, operating characteristics, etc. Be sure to check his stuff.

For a specific link, I think you will find this material helpful.

We do have a service that does that, it is called Anyroom DVR. It does require specific boxes for it to function, and a tech needs to do the installation because a filter has to be installed on the line.

You would have have to call your local office to see if we have that available in your area.
