Performance wise, which is faster - ArrayList.size() or ArrayList.toArray().

    Thanks.

    DB:3.94:Performance Issue m1

My guess would be that ArrayList.size() is faster because that only returns an integer describing the number of objects in the ArrayList, while the ArrayList.toArray() methods reurns an Array containing all the Objects the ArrayList contained.

DB:3.70:Performance Issue In The Crm Icweb Environment. zc

    Hi Balaji,

Basically from the components names you can only guess what happened there.

Please check SAP Note: 1696021 which extends statistical records written into STAD transaction. Maybe you can understand what did the users do on these screens.

But basically it's better to come to them and check how they are using CRM application.

Once you know the steps they are doing, you can ask to repeat them and in parallel you shoudl perform ST12 trace which gives much more evidence regarding what is going on.

Another point i should raise is that no hw bottlenecks should occur and that CRM 6.0 and above require high-clocking CPU.

Once you know the Root Cause of your problem, get back with concrete problems.

    Best Regards, Dima

    3) Application Monitoring / tuning

For production database, do top to down monitoring/tuning , for development database do bottom to top monitoring/tuning.

DB:3.53:Performance Issue, Unable To Connect To Internet 9s

    Hi Everyone.

DB:3.53:Performance Issue, Unable To Connect To Internet 9s

    Hello StuWoods,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community.

How are you trying to connect to internet? Is it a wireless or wired internet connection? What do you mean when you say “thw bottom bar had returned but it is now gray and looks like something out of Windows 98”?

Explorer.exe is Windows explorer file which is different from iexplore.exe (Internet Explorer). If you close explorer.exe file from task manager it shuts down Windows explorer, and as a result the bar disappeared and you had to
    restart your computer.

I can understand the inconvenience that you have to go through due to this issue, however, let’s try these methods below to get this problem resolved.

    Method 1:

Check Network and sharing center, enable wired or wireless connection if disabled. If no connection is available, follow the steps in the article below to setup a connection.

    Wired and wireless connection problems.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/network-connection-problem-help#network-problems=windows-7v1h=win81tab1v2h=win7tab5v3h=winvistatab1v4h=winxptab1

    Method 2:

I would also suggest you to scan your computer with Microsoft Safety scanner just to make sure your computer is free of all infections.

Scan your computer with Microsoft safety scanner.
    http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Also see: Optimize Windows for better performance
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/optimize-windows-better-performance#optimize-windows-better-performance=windows-7section_1

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable
it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks

    hi experts !

how i can increase performance of my program .

    thanks .

    DB:3.51:Performance Issue c1

    HI,

    DO THis.

    1. avoid select query inside loop.

    2. in select query fetch only the needed fields from the DB

3.sort the internal table and use binary search.

4.inside LOOP whn u r chking some conditions, after satisfies the condition just exit.

5.use modify statment in place of INSERT AND UPDATE.

    6.reduce the data base access.

7.do all the manipulations using internal table only.

8.reduce the declaration of variables in the pgm.

you should use Runtime Analysis first for determining the runtime of your program using se30.

if your program is taking time at database operation then you can find the worst queries using

    st05

SQL Trace (ST05) we use for performance tuning

In se38,you have a report and you want to test the performance of that report

ST05 tells about the summary of sql statements used in that program.

    -Go to Tcode ST05

    -Select Trace on

    -In se38,Execute your report-

-Come back to st05 and select Trace off

    -Select Trace list.

Now you check your select stmnts and how much time taking

-Some columns showing pink color are expensive select stmnts

You have so many options inside to check for summary and also index..

Yes - you should disable all the logging options. I have seen those creating performance issues in the past.

    DB:3.51:Performance Issue 1p

    DB:3.51:Performance Issue 1p

You may well be able to save a couple of minutes by making SequenceID the primary key of #SalesOrders. But I don't think your going to have much success trying go make any other changes given the restrictions you have applied (UpdateSalesOrder_Detail
cannot be changed and must be used to do the update).
To see why, consider what is going on when you call the stored procedure. First, my copy of AdventureWorks2012 gets 31,465 rows in the @SalesOrders table. So you are calling the stored procedure 31,465 times. That means you are running
31,465 update commands to Sales.SalesOrderDetail. That table has an update trigger. So you are firing the trigger 31,465 times. That trigger updates Person.Person. So you are running 31,465 update commands against Person.Person.
The trigger also updates Sales.SalesOrder. So that's 31,465 update commands run on that table. But Sales.SalesOrder has an update trigger. So that trigger fires 31,465 times. The trigger on Sales.SalesOrder updates that same table.
So that is 31,465 more update commands run against Sales.SalesOrder. Fortunately, since the update trigger is modifying it's own table, the trigger does not fire again.

So let's add all of this up. It's 31,465 times through the loop to get each row, 31,465 calls to the stored procedure, 125,860 update commands run against various tables and 62,930 times a trigger is fired.
The only way (IMO) to significantly improve that is to do all of the updates with one update command. That would, of course, require that you rewrite that stored procedure or do it with a single update command without using a stored procedure.
If you do that, you don't have the loop at all, you only have 1 call to the stored procedure, 4 update commands against various tables and 2 times a trigger is fired.
    Tom

DB:3.51:Performance Issue In Abap Program 3p

    hi,

how can we improve the performance of abap program

DB:3.51:Performance Issue In Abap Program 3p

    hi,

    read the follwing links

ABAP provides few tools to analyse the perfomance of the objects, which was developed by us.

    Run time analysis transaction SE30

This transaction gives all the analysis of an ABAP program with respect to the database and the non-database processing.

    SQL Trace transaction ST05

by using this tool we can analyse the perfomance issues related to DATABASE calls.

Perfomance Techniques for improve the perfomance of the object.

    1) ABAP/4 programs can take a very long time to execute, and can make other processes have to wait before executing. Here are some tips to speed up your programs and reduce the load your programs put on the system:

    2) Use the GET RUN TIME command to help evaluate performance. It's hard to know whether that optimization technique REALLY helps unless you test it out.

    3) Using this tool can help you know what is effective, under what kinds of conditions. The GET RUN TIME has problems under multiple CPUs, so you should use it to test small pieces of your program, rather than the whole program.

    4) Generally, try to reduce I/O first, then memory, then CPU activity. I/O operations that read/write to hard disk are always the most expensive operations. Memory, if not controlled, may have to be written to swap space on the hard disk, which therefore increases your I/O read/writes to disk. CPU activity can be reduced by careful program design, and by using commands such as SUM (SQL) and COLLECT (ABAP/4).

    5) Avoid 'SELECT *', especially in tables that have a lot of fields. Use SELECT A B C INTO instead, so that fields are only read if they are used. This can make a very big difference.

    6) Field-groups can be useful for multi-level sorting and displaying. However, they write their data to the system's paging space, rather than to memory (internal tables use memory). For this reason, field-groups are only appropriate for processing large lists (e.g. over 50,000 records). If you have large lists, you should work with the systems administrator to decide the maximum amount of RAM your program should use, and from that, calculate how much space your lists will use. Then you can decide whether to write the data to memory or swap space.

Use as many table keys as possible in the WHERE part of your select statements.

7)Whenever possible, design the program to access a relatively constant number of records (for instance, if you only access the transactions for one month, then there probably will be a reasonable range, like 1200-1800, for the number of transactions inputted within that month). Then use a SELECT A B C INTO TABLE ITAB statement.

    8) Get a good idea of how many records you will be accessing. Log into your productive system, and use SE80 - Dictionary Objects (press Edit), enter the table name you want to see, and press Display. Go To Utilities - Table Contents to query the table contents and see the number of records. This is extremely useful in optimizing a program's memory allocation.

    9) Try to make the user interface such that the program gradually unfolds more information to the user, rather than giving a huge list of information all at once to the user.

    10) Declare your internal tables using OCCURS NUM_RECS, where NUM_RECS is the number of records you expect to be accessing. If the number of records exceeds NUM_RECS, the data will be kept in swap space (not memory).

    11) Use SELECT A B C INTO TABLE ITAB whenever possible. This will read all of the records into the itab in one operation, rather than repeated operations that result from a SELECT A B C INTO ITAB... ENDSELECT statement. Make sure that ITAB is declared with OCCURS NUM_RECS, where NUM_RECS is the number of records you expect to access.

    12) If the number of records you are reading is constantly growing, you may be able to break it into chunks of relatively constant size. For instance, if you have to read all records from 1991 to present, you can break it into quarters, and read all records one quarter at a time. This will reduce I/O operations. Test extensively with GET RUN TIME when using this method.

    13) Know how to use the 'collect' command. It can be very efficient.

    14) Use the SELECT SINGLE command whenever possible.

    15) Many tables contain totals fields (such as monthly expense totals). Use these avoid wasting resources by calculating a total that has already been calculated and stored.

    Some tips:

    1) Use joins where possible as redundant data is not fetched.

    2) Use select single where ever possible.

    3) Calling methods of a global class is faster than calling function modules.

    4) Use constants instead of literals

    5) Use WHILE instead of a DO-EXIT-ENDDO.

    6) Unnecessary MOVEs should be avoided by using the explicit work area operations

see the follwing links for a brief insifght into performance tuning,

    Hi Buddy,

    These are to be followed.

    1) Avoid select...endselect

Instead always use 'for all entries in'.

    2) Dont use joins

Instead always use 'for all entries in'.

    3) Always clear and refresh the work areas and Internal tables.

At the end of program, dont forget to FREE the internal tables.

    4) Before reading Internal tables, always sort them and use keyword 'BINARY SEARCH' in addition to read statement.

    5) Always use Extended program check(Tcode:SLIN) and SQL trace(Tcode : ST05) to track any unused variables and Select queries which are taking long time.

Dont forget to reward points, if found useful

    Thanks you.

My Oracle version is : 10.2.0.4.0

DB:3.43:Re: Insert/Select On Dw - Performance Issue xx

Could not think of any rows being returned with this query (SAS.TMP_T join other tables and then minus itself). If it really does there got to be other approaches for the logic.

    select
    ....
    from DWH.TD M, DWH.HP P, SAS.TMP_T TMP, DWH.TOC A
    .....
    minus
    select
    M1,P1,T1,T2,T3,T4,T5,'I' I1
    from SAS.TMP_T

Also, hash group by without distinct is enough (no need to sort and then insert)

I have opened a call up with Microsoft in the meantime, but open to suggestions.

DB:3.43:Apache And Weblogic - Performance Issue sa

    Hi Anuj,

This question should be directed to the weblogic.developer.interest.plug-in
    group.

Regarding this issue, this is normal -- the access.log for WebLogic shows
the requests from the proxy. But, instead of showing you the IP address of
the proxy server, it instead shows you the IP address of the client. You
can also verify that this is a different request because the connection to
the proxy server used HTTP/1.1, and the connection to WLS used HTTP/1.0 --
this is the protocol that the proxy plug-in uses to communicate with WLS.

So, in summary, there is only one request made by the client per image, and
the plug-in is in turn making a request to WLS for each image.

here's what each log file's say,

first Apache (access_log) shows that it served it up:

    Hi Guys,

How to check the performance issue for webdynpro abap .

    DB:3.43:Performance Issue Webdynpro Abap fj

    Hi Meera,

Performance issues with WebDynpro ABAP can have several root causes:

    * high frontend time (slow browser rendering)

    * high network time (too many roundtrips, small bandwidth)

    * high backend time (slow ABAP application, inefficient database accesses)

    There are several tools:

    * in the WebDynpro window, click Ctrl+Alt+Shift+h to get a help on available tools. Ctrl+Alt+Shift+p is for performance, f.e. with frontend time. Others give information on complexity of DOM

    * Task Manager on your frontend PC to get impression on frontend CPU time

    * HTTPWatch to monitor HTTP-traffic to and from frontend

    * STAD on the ABAP backend to get statisitcal information on user interaction step

    * ST05 and SAT on ABAP backend for database and ABAP

    What can be done:

    * Often the displayed screen is complex. Reduce number of columns in lists, input fields, number of displayed lines, number of screen elements. Load any screen information (tabs, table data) only on demand, that is when the user wants to see it.

    * Reduce number of roundtrips between application server and frontend to 1 or 2 per UI-step

    * Do the usual performance optimization for the backend application

    Best Regards,

    Randolf

I've even heard that Generics (or at least the general concept) can potentially increase performance because your code is more type safe and so can skip some checking. The compiler removes all of the generic types and replaces them with raw types and casts. This intermediate code which you don't see is exactly like pre-generics code. So there is no run-time performance impact whatsoever. The advantage of generics is simply better readability and robustness.

The desktop.ini file by default has the System, Hidden and Read-only attributes assigned. So they should not be showing on the Desktop unless the following option is disabled in Folder Options:
Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
Enabling the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) setting in Folder Options hides the two Desktop.ini files, as well.
    a. Open Windows Explorer.
    b. Click Organize, click Folder and Search Options.
    c. Select the View tab.
    d. Place a checkmark on ‘Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)’.
The desktop.ini files will longer visible on the Desktop.

    9) Try using the -Xrunhprof option to profile your
code. While it will run much more slowly with the
profiler enabled, it will at least indicate where the
slowness is. It might not be what you expect. The first solid advice.

Guessing where your program is slow is an excercise in futility. And more than likely a waste of time.

Use the above or get a commercial performance tool like JProbe or OptimizeIt and actually measure where it is slow. You can even instrument it yourself (but this is going to cost more than one of the other solutions unless you are very, very cheap.)

I have some performance issue with the Oracle 8.1.7 database at WIN2000.

I need to know why my index tablespace is greater than my data tablespace ?

    DB:3.32:Performance Issue xc

I am totally agree with cave remarks regarding your issue. Might be some of your big tables might have no. of indexes. See do you really need all those indexes or you can look at redundant indexes.

the 3750 series switches complete hardware-foward only IPv4 packets with no options set in Ethernet II encapsulation. This includes bridging, routing, security (Including VLAN ACL), and Qos Lookup. Packets that do not conform to all three criteria will be forwarded using a combination of hardware or software forwading.

    DB:3.31:Abap Memory Performance Issue 83

    Dear experts:

I got a problem with ABAP memory performance issue. I need to export an internal table to ABAP memory, and it's ID is sales order number. So, I will bulid too many ABAP memory in SAP...

Does it will couse performance issue or will it be lost?

    tyrolu

    DB:3.31:Abap Memory Performance Issue 83

    Hi Tyrolu,

There are some settings in basis which decides size of your abap memory.

If you are consuming most of the abap memory by exporting heavy objects to abap memory then

you may face a problem as many standard sap program aslo uses abap memory and

if there is no free abap memory then they will start thowing short dumps like "Page allocation error"

or "Could not allocate shared memory" or something like that, I don't remember exact term now.

In some cases you won't have any problem if users are less, but as the no of concurrent users

running your program increased then every user who runs the program would consume abap memory

and if there is no free abap memory then this may again lead to above mentioned problem.

Also ensure FREE MEMORY ID is used which clears abap memory immediatly.

Other wise abap memory is cleared by the garbage collector on random basis and by that time

your memory remains consumed and not available for other programs to use

which may again lead to above mentioned problem.

    Vishal

How to escalate prioritized tickets regarding extractions give some eample.

How to check performance issues and also load failures give some example

    DB:3.31:Performance Issue xx

    Hi

    Checklist for Query Performance

    1. If exclusions exist, make sure they exist in the global filter area. Try to remove exclusions by subtracting out inclusions.

    2. Use Constant Selection to ignore filters in order to move more filters to the global filter area. (Use ABAPer to test and validate that this ensures better code)

    3. Within structures, make sure the filter order exists with the highest level filter first.

    4. Check code for all exit variables used in a report.

    5. Move Time restrictions to a global filter whenever possible.

    6. Within structures, use user exit variables to calculate things like QTD, YTD. This should generate better code than using overlapping restrictions to achieve the same thing. (Use ABAPer to test and validate that this ensures better code).

    7. When queries are written on multiproviders, restrict to InfoProvider in global filter whenever possible. MultiProvider (MultiCube) queries require additional database table joins to read data compared to those queries against standard InfoCubes (InfoProviders), and you should therefore hardcode the infoprovider in the global filter whenever possible to eliminate this problem.

    8. Move all global calculated and restricted key figures to local as to analyze any filters that can be removed and moved to the global definition in a query. Then you can change the calculated key figure and go back to utilizing the global calculated key figure if desired

    9. If Alternative UOM solution is used, turn off query cache.

    10. Set read mode of query based on static or dynamic. Reading data during navigation minimizes the impact on the R/3 database and application server resources because only data that the user requires will be retrieved. For queries involving large hierarchies with many nodes, it would be wise to select Read data during navigation and when expanding the hierarchy option to avoid reading data for the hierarchy nodes that are not expanded. Reserve the Read all data mode for special queriesfor instance, when a majority of the users need a given query to slice and dice against all dimensions, or when the data is needed for data mining. This mode places heavy demand on database and memory resources and might impact other SAP BW processes and tasks.

    11. Turn off formatting and results rows to minimize Frontend time whenever possible.

    12. Check for nested hierarchies. Always a bad idea.

    13. If "Display as hierarchy" is being used, look for other options to remove it to increase performance.

    14. Use Constant Selection instead of SUMCT and SUMGT within formulas.

    15. Do review of order of restrictions in formulas. Do as many restrictions as you can before calculations. Try to avoid calculations before restrictions.

    16. Check Sequential vs Parallel read on Multiproviders.

    17. Turn off warning messages on queries.

    18. Check to see if performance improves by removing text display (Use ABAPer to test and validate that this ensures better code).

    19. Check to see where currency conversions are happening if they are used.

    20. Check aggregation and exception aggregation on calculated key figures. Before aggregation is generally slower and should not be used unless explicitly needed.

    21. Avoid Cell Editor use if at all possible.

    22. Make sure queries are regenerated in production using RSRT after changes to statistics, consistency changes, or aggregates.

    23. Within the free characteristics, filter on the least granular objects first and make sure those come first in the order.

    24. Leverage characteristics or navigational attributes rather than hierarchies. Using a hierarchy requires reading temporary hierarchy tables and creates additional overhead compared to characteristics and navigational attributes. Therefore, characteristics or navigational attributes result in significantly better query performance than hierarchies, especially as the size of the hierarchy (e.g., the number of nodes and levels) and the complexity of the selection criteria increase.

    25. If hierarchies are used, minimize the number of nodes to include in the query results. Including all nodes in the query results (even the ones that are not needed or blank) slows down the query processing. The not assigned nodes in the hierarchy should be filtered out, and you should use a variable to reduce the number of hierarchy nodes selected.

Check the performance using SE30 if the ABAP is taking more resourse that you need to check your code. If the database is taking time may be you are using a cluster or a pool table in that case you need to get the data from some other logic. Also while coding try not to use nested select statements. Also avoid using Select * or into corrosponding fields.

    Hi rglaser,

Welcome to the world of VMware and the community!

The results in the chart need to be taken into context, so we would need to know more about your storage implementation before saying "Yes", you have an IO performance issue.

On the face of it, the latency seen is fairly excessive and I would expect poor performance. In general, I like to see IO latency below 5ms and from what I can make out you are seeing 10x this, peaking much higher.

    Hi

    Ur question is not clear.....enough

r u using BAPIs to update these mseg and mkpf tables?

Genarally updation thru BAPI is faster than BDC but u have to takle care of all the conversions and code.

If u r fetching datas from Mseg and mkpf thru BAPI then better use Views rather fetching directly frm tables.

U can also use For all entries option.Dont use Inner join option.

    hi everyone,

I would like to see what loads when you boot. To identify what loads when you boot use Autoruns (freeware from Microsoft).
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902

With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from starting, or you can right click an item and then delete it. If you uncheck you can recheck to re-enable the item. It is a much safer approach than editing the Registry
    and better than using msconfig.

A useful feature of the programme is that you can right click an item and select Search Online to get information about the item selected.

    A useful guide:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/analyze_all_autorun_auto-start_programs_in_windows.cfm

Select File, Save, change the “Save as type” to Text file type using the Scroll to the right and click Save. Please upload the file to your Sky Drive as a shared file and post as a link here.
