DB:4.22:Cannot Add Host Vitual Adapter mx

I installed VMware Workstation 6.5.2 on a Windows Server 2008 EE SP1 for testing.

The 2 default virtual network adapters have been setup for 2 HOST-ONLY vlans and work fine. Now I need to add one more host vitual adapter for the third VLAN. After add it in and click apply, I got "An error occurred while updating the virtual network setting. Error code: 0". Anyone has got this issue? Thanks.

DB:4.22:Cannot Add Host Vitual Adapter mx

Running vmnetcfg.exe got the same error as my first post.

Using Administrator account to run "rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection VMnetAdapter5.Install 128 %CD%\netadapter.inf" does not help, I did reboot but no virtual network adaptor installed.

I did another clean install on a Windows XP SP2 machine. It works fine. I am wondering if some default local policy can cause this issue on Windows Server 2008 EE SP1.

I am configuring a blade at present which only has one gigabyte network card. esx has been installed and can ping the network. I have created a win svr 2003 vm and have vmtools installed. I cannot ping outside the vm.

I have created 2 vitual switches one internal and the other a outbound adapter bound to the physical nic. The vm has been configured to use the outbound adapter

yes they have forgotten about the second passthrough module.

    Hello,

Heartbeat messages are transmitted over NLB Enabled NIC always whether you're operating cluster in Unicast or Multicast mode.

    source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/556067

In other places it says host to host communication cannot take place in Unicast single adapter mode.
    1) Is the host to host communication same as the heartbeat messages which are send by every host every second?
If it cannot takes place, then how is the cluster converging and thus cluster working?
OR is it that host to host communication is something other than heartbeat ?
If host to host communication is different than heartbeats, then what do hosts communicate between each other?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    DB:2.97:Unicast Single Adapter Nlb ca

When you setup NLB, each NIC has a unique IP address and they all share a single NLB IP address.
The heartbeat will be accomplished using the unique IP of each server.

DB:2.78:Why In Vitual Server Have Got 2 Ip V4 8z

What it looks like is that you have tried to manually assign the fixed IP address of 192.168.2.253 to SV1 when you have already assigned that address to ASV. What happens in this case is that SV1 finds the duplicate IP address on the network, realizes
it can't do anything with that, so it assigns an APIPA address (169.254/16) address. This is a fall-back mechanism that actually provides for a way to access the machine via the network even if, as in this case, you have a bad network configuration.
You can't reach it, though, because you have the rest of your machines set up properly to communicate on 192.168.2/16 with no routing to 169.254/16.tim

I finally found a solution for my problem which was to have a different network adapter for the host and the guest on my laptop where I cannot add another network adapter card. The solution is briefly described in the following article

    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_UScmd=displayKCexternalId=1020359.

I was trying to use the USB network adapter in the guest but the connection always broke after few seconds of download but this network adapter works in the host. The solution consists to use the USB network adapter for the host where I disable the "WMWare Brigde Procotol" and use the wired network adapter for the guest where I only enable the "VMWare Bridge Protocol".

Assuming this is not a licensing (60 day evaluation period expired) issue, it may be either caused by an Essentials edition - as mentioned by weinstein5 - or "vCenter Server Foundation" which are both limited to a maximum of 3 hosts or by limited permissions which do not allow you to add hosts.

    Host: Vista 32

I added a host-only virtual adaptor to guest but when I power up the Ubuntu VM the adaptor does not receive an IP from DHCP. Somewhere

I read that host-only adapters are automatically connected to VMNET1 so my adapter should have received an IP. Have I misunderstood the documentation?

However if I add a new custom host-only adapter and connect it to VMnet1, from the dropdown list, the adapter gets an IP and all is fine.

So what is the point behind host-only adapters if they're isolated from the system?

I have tried using a bridged network setup and excluding the virtual vpn adapter that the cisco vpn client sets up in the host machine. I do get an IP address in my linux VM but I cannot connect to anything while the Cisco VPN client is up in the host mahcine. If I shutdown the VPN client in the host machine then I have network connectivity in my linux virtual machine.

    Thanks

DB:2.52:Cisco Vpn Client And Vmware Vitual Mahine af

    from "fgeter" upthread:

Sounds like I cannot do what I want to do because

the VPN client when active is intercepting ALL the

network traffic. I was hoping that I could have two

seperate connections at the same time (host vpn and

    vm nonvpn).

This sounds like your VPN tunnel is configured for "tunnel all" which is an option that (depending on the configuration of your VPN server) may or may not be your only choice. If you have no option except to use "tunnel all" that's probably a decision made by the IT staff responsible for the server, and most likely represents company policy.

VPN clients in "tunnel all" mode act as you describe, limiting the client's network connections to only subnets behind the server while the tunnel is up. Shops that are security-conscious may invoke this option to prevent a client from establishing a bridge between the network (presumably corporate, and allegedly trustworthy) supported by the VPN server, and the network (presumably uncontrolled, and certainly of unknown safety as far as the IT staff is concerned) to which the client is physically attached.

The other option is "split tunnel" in which the client interprets the destination IP address of each packet presented to the IP stack, directing them (based on whether the destination is within the IP address space serviced by the VPN server) either through the tunnel or through the normal IP stack.

I have access to a Cisco VPN server that allows split tunnel operation; the good news is that while running an XP guest under VMWare I can set up a split tunnel VPN connection from which I can ping hosts on both the local and distant (tunneled) network.

The bad news is that I'm not able to do much that's useful with hosts on the distant network. I suspect that there is an MTU problem somewhere in the connection path; the symptoms are similar to what I've seen in the past when packets were being fragmented and the tunnel interface got badly confused. (The same Cisco client, on the same XP image but not under VMWare has no problems fully accessing both local and distant hosts in split tunnel mode).

VMWare configuration: Windows host (4.5.2b8848), Windows XP guest bridged IP to the local 100bT network, through a NAT interface (Linksys BEFSX41) to the Internet via DSL.

Although I've been working with virtual computers since the 1970s I'm new to VMWare and so far haven't had the time to experiment with network settings to see what is required. If I can find the time I'll see if I can pry loose one of the lab managers at the office who is running several dozen VMWare systems and see if he or his people have any experience with the Cisco client.

I also wrote my all calls parameterless so that I can seperate the UI.How do I go about implementing a host adapter (sample code or How-to would be great)? Do I need a seperate project or is it part of my test project? Please do not refer to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb166198.aspxas this is NOT helpful for mefor I cannot find theITestAdapter it is mentioning.I am using Visual Studio 2008 Team Suite Edition with SP1Thanks in advance for all your supportMichael

DB:2.51:How Do I Actually Implement A Host Adapter For Testing An Add-In? c1

Michael, the page you were looking at is the right place (as well as it's parent page). The ITestAdapter interface is from Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.ExecutionCommon assembly that you can find in Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies. Also you would need Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.Common assebmly (same place).I recommend to take a look at host adapter samples that come as part of VS SDK: MyTest or VS IDE Host Adapter samples. Install VS 2008 SDK, use sample browser to locate the samples, than install. Thanks,Michael Koltachev,Visual Studio Team Test

Have an issue with one virtual server running Windows 2003 R2 (spk 2) after installation of 2008 spk 2 on the host.  When trying to install a network adapter on the VM, the installation fails reporting a file missing.  Viewing device manager reveals the adapter with the yellow exclamation symbol.   The device status originally was Code 1, but after an attempted repair of integrated services its now at Code 31 the device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. If I try and install a legacy NIC it appears to be ok, but when the properties are opened no clients or protocols are listed.  Attempting to add a protocol fails as none are available. Has anyone any idea how to fix this issue?

DB:2.51:Vm Bus Network Adapter Error Code 31 9j

I Had similar issue with a VMWare virtual machine after doing a hardware upgrade to version 7 , the machine had been previously p2v and after hardware upgrade no availble network driver would work (code 31 and code 1 depending on the driver I tried) . Microsoft
support indicated me to delete the following registry key and reboot the machine:

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network delete the
    Config(REG_Binary) key

You should then be able to install the drivers after rebooting the machine

    hi,

I'm running vmware server on a host machine (centos), and I have a virtual machine running (suse). the host machine has three interfaces (eth0, eth1, eth2) on three test networks. vmnet0 is bridged to eth0, vmnet2 to eth1, vmnet3 to eth2.

I have set the network configuration in the virtual machine OS, and on each of the three vitual interfaces, I can connect to machines on the three different networks from my virtual machine (I have tried curl, ping, and ssh).

HOWEVER I cannot do the reverse. from a seperate physical machine, I cannot ping, curl, or ssh my virtual machine. using tcpdump, the virtual machine sees the request but never responds to it.

    why!! =(

    hey,

thanks for all the input, boogieshafter. it turned out that the distro I was using had numerous configuration settings specific to where I work, and it took a lot of work to make those settings match with the network I had configured.

according to latest HCL http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi35_io_guide.pdf HP NC360T PCIe Dual‐port Gigabit Server Adapter is supported by ESXi 3.5 and although I can see both ports of this adapter in VI client under Hardware - Network Adapters - 82571EB Gigabit Ethernet Controller vmnic3 and vmnic2 I cannot use them. Actually I can configure them and add them to vSwitches but when physical plugging network cable to any of these 2 ports I get one of the light flashing red and cannot communicate I know iSCSI network works, this is what I'm trying to use this adapter for because if I use same cable and connect to previously configured vmnic1 which is Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708 1000Base-T another adapter in this host server all works. Additionally which is odd this NC360T dual port adapter displays in VI client vmnic2 wake on LAN Supported: YES and vmnic3 Wake on LAN Supported: NO.... this is same adapter 2 ports with exactly same features, why is that. Any idea why this card flash red?

DB:2.50:Cannot Communicate Over Hp Nc360t kx

disregard part that I cannot communicate I can, I posted too quick without double checking, red flashing is real orange and in this NC360T means 1000 Mb/s where green means 100 Mb/s and the same time green flashing for onboard BCM5708 means 1000 Mb/s so you getting wrong impression by just looking on physical indications thinking something is wrong.

As far WOL this is odd because BCM5708 it also dual port Gb adapter and WOL for this one says Yes and Yes for both ports, not a biggest concern I just noticed that

The Hyper-V host and the SCVMM host must both be domain joined (if not the same domain fully trusted) and the VM being converted must also be domain joined.
It is possible to set up a Hyper-V host (add it to SCVMM) by the method used for perimeter hosts - the method is to manually install the SCVMM agent, copy the key file to SCVMM and add the host. This si the method to adda perimeter hosts.
But nothing stops you from adding a domain joined host this way.
The difference between the two methods is how communication happens and therefore the options that are available for additional features.
    That is my guess.

    Hi everyone

My Windows 2000 server vitual machine still cannot connect to the Internet even though it is on exactly the same subnet as the host. I tried enabling Remote and Routing Access in vain only to find no Internet connection. Is there anything else you need to do other than assigning an IPv4 address to your server virtual machine to be on the same subnet as your Internet enabled host. If you are able to ping the host in bridged mode, you should also be able to connect to other systems. Did you set the DNS server in your VM?

You can try ping e.g. www.vmware.com from your host, make note of the IP address and try to ping the IP address from your VM.

I'm Running VMWare Server 1.0.3 on Windows 2003 SP2, VMWare Server Console 1.0.3 on Windows XP x64 SP2, and a guest OS with Windows XP SP2.

When trying to add an audio device, I cannot select a host sound adapter. That might be correct, because the server doesn't have a sound card. It doesn't need one too. The client does have a sound card, but then I see the small text that says audio is not available for remote connections.

Now what do I do to get sound in the guest OS? I added a disconnected sound adapter because "connect at power on" gives me the above error. But the guest OS cannot play an audio file, it says there's no audio playback device. I need a working sound adapter (whether I can hear anything is not important) in order to process a video file.

And why is there an option to add a sound adapter if it doesn't even work? I mean, seriously, who's gonna play with VM's on their server locally??

Anyway, I need a sound adapter. How?

That must be a new "feature" of Vista.

I have an NT 4.0 server image that I moved to another ESX box due to hardware problems on it's original host. The image boots up and logs in but cannot find the domain controller. Frequently on rollbacks to these images we have to remove the machine from the domain and add it back but that is never a problem because it can at least ping the network. These images will not let me add the machine back to the domain because it cannot even ping the DC (error is 'destination host unreachable). You can ping the loopback so TCP/IP is okay. It acts like the network cable is unplugged but that can't be because the other 4 - vm's on this ESX box network fine. All the network devices look fine in Device Manager and vmware tools have been reinstalled. Any ideas?

Hmmm . . . You are not even getting to your gateway box. If you are using vmxnet have you confirmed that the connection is connected using the web interface? VirtualCenter does not properly show connection status for vmxnet NICs.

I believe the moment you turn on the Network Discovery exception in your host's firewall settings you will have everything working.

OES is built on SLES9, which is certified EAL4, so it is certainly

secure in its own right. As far as hosting two sites on a single server

using virtual hosts, there\'s always the possibility of IP spoofing to

get access, but for those packets to get back home in a modern network

usually requires the compromise of one of your internal systems anyways,

which they wouldn\'t need spoofing if they did that. If you set up your

Apache ACLs so that the intranet solution only allows access from

internal IPs, you should be OK.

Three other alternatives are setting up 802.1q on the server and

splitting the network into two vlans, one intranet and one extranet,

then set up Apache to host different services on the different VLAN

interfaces. This requires a VLAN-aware networking infrastructure however.

You could also do the solution above with a virtual IP address added to

    the existing network interface.

A physical solution is to add another NIC to the server, and have apache

host each site on each individual NIC, but as you said you don\'t like

    adding hardware.

I don\'t like use add. hardware

I have server2 running on a debian linux machine. I'm trying to add a sound adapter to a WinXP Pro virtual machine. But nothing seems to happen when I click on "sound adapter" in the add hardware wizard. I am blind so I cannot be 100% sure nothing is happening. But I've been able to add other kinds of hardware to this virtual machine. I added a serial port by clicking on serial adapter and then next. But if I click on sound adapter and then next, it tries to add a disk as if I never clicked on sound adapter or as if the sound adapter link is inactive.

I thought maybe my host system had an unsupported sound card. The first sound card is on the mother board. So I added a second sound card, a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live. At the end of this message, I'll tack on what lspci says both cards are.

Do I have to do something in vmware to get it to know I have added hardware to the host system? Maybe vmware server2 only sees the first sound adapterin the host system?

The upgrade was successful and I can log into this host directly and see all of the datastores now. However, this host was stuck at disconnecting in vCenter, (which is 5.5.0 Build 2183111 appliance), and would never reconnect. The error message that I receive when trying to connect was:

datastore conflicts with an existing datastore in the datacenter that has the same url

I followed this KB VMware KB: Upgrading to VMware vCenter Server 5.1 or 5.5 fails with error: Datastore 'amp;lt;datastoreamp;gt;' con which pertains to upgrading vCenter and not the host, but looked similiar.

I checked the offending datastores that were in the error above and all have the same vml ID as a good host. I removed this host from vCenter and tried to re-add it and still received the above error. The datastores that are involved in the error are all of the datastores that I could not see before the upgrade that are attached to the newly installed HBA. This is an LSI 3008 12Gb SAS adapter. Any suggestions? I am waiting on VMware tech support to call back on this one currently.

Network Issue, the guest server does not see the internet.

This is working for other guest servers that have been created the same way from the same template image on this host machine.

The guest server is configured for NAT, the same as other available guests.

The IP is fixed to 192.168.108.150

The system is working as though the configuration is a host-only network.

I can connect ping to the host and other guest servers, but not see anything beyond the host.

If I change the connection to bridged or host-only back again it appears to make no difference.

Server reboots etc have also made no difference.

When the server was originally connected with a dynamic IP before fixing and adding to the local domain, it is believed that the connection was working.

However I cannot be 100% sure. The other guests servers are all configured in a similar way.

I am having a problem on a machine with W2k host.

Under the "Virtual Network Editor" it will not allow me to create new Host Virtual Adapters. The adapters fail to be installed when VmWare is installed.

When I add a new adapter it appears in the list but when I hit apply it disappears. This means that I cannot network any Virtual Machines.

The host originally had Workstation 4 on it. Since then I have tried WS 4.5 5, VM Player, VMWare server, all these have the same issue.

I have even run the cleanup utility to try and clean out the installation but to no avail.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

DB:2.44:Vm Issues With Server 2008 R2 Web Edtion js

I have just recently set up a dev machine with Server 2008 Enterprise as the host OS and decided to give Hyper-V a test run. However I continue to have problems with setting up VMs to work with the external adapter, I only have one NIC. My plan
is to set up four VMs, two with Server 2008 R2 Web Edition, and the other two with the Standard Edition or perhaps Enterprise...just want them to play around with. But I need the two Web Editions for dev purposes.
So here's my main problem, every time I set up a VM the External Network does not always work as it has with other previous VMs I've set or cannot always connect to the Web dev VMs from other machines in my network. So in other words the steps I take
are the same but the results, as far as the vitual network goes, are not consistent. Only once, have I been able to set up 2 web vms and 2 standard vms where all machines were able to use the external network and I was able to reach them from all other
machines in my network. Of course because I wanted to prove that I could reproduce the same results withthe method I used I deleted the VMs and installed them again, but of course the results were not the same.
In the latest configuration I'm dealing with, I have 2 Web VMs, 1 Win 7, and 1 Standard. Win 7 and Standard can connect to the External Network but the two Web vms cannot, the network status always remain in Identifying... The only time their
network status changes is when I set up an internal network and associate them with that connection.
Bear in mind im using an HP p6774y machine so I'm not sure if this issue has to do with theactual physical NIC, which I doubt, since it is not an actual server machine hardware but I've heard of other developers using this machine as a dev machine
with hyper-v hosting four VMs. Or I dont know if it has to do with Web Server but again it has worked previously and Standard has given me the same issue.
I've been looking around the net, in books forums and all over the place for the past four days...can anyone please help me bring some light into this matter.
In advance any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated...

DB:2.44:Vm Issues With Server 2008 R2 Web Edtion js

    Hi,

Some switches do not accept two different MAC addresses from the same switch port, this will cause some problems.

The following post discussed a similar issue, you can refer to:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverhyperv/thread/936f1dc2-3701-42f6-9774-78f5ef12946b

By the way, you can perform the following steps to isolate the cause of the issue.

    1. Please attach the problematic VMs to the External Virtual Network.
    2. Assign IP addresses to them manually.
    3. Ping other computers in your LAN to see whether it works.

In addition, according to the description, it seems that you run Windows Server 2008 on the Hyper-V host machine and Windows Server 2008 R2 within the
VMs. If so, I would like to let you know that it is not recommend that you run Windows Server 2008 R2 VMs on a Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V host machine, its recommend to run Windows Server 2008/Windows Server 2008 R2 VMs on a Windows Server 2008 R2
    Hyper-V host machine.

    HI Folks,

    Have an ESX server running on a 10.5.X.X network;

Would like to add more than one default gateway for the Service console..

Is there anyway to do this?

When you try ad configure it with Infrastructure client - there is only an option for one gateway - see attached JPG screen shots

The Service console is on its own virtual switch with a dedicated physical adapter.

The Vitual machine network is on another virtual switch, with its own physical adapter, on a different subnet (192.168.13.X), different physical switch.

    Hello,

That is correct, but you are adding a 'route' not a gateway. They are a bit different.

    I am running:

NIC is an Intel 10/100/1000 Pro adapter

I have installed ESX 4 on the 150GB and I created two virtualized ESX 4 VMs under this. I was hoping to re-create the same infrastructure like I had in the Windows World using Workstation. I am unable to ping-out or ping the VM's (the ESX 4 VMs).

If I leave the vNIC on the VM as a Flexible adapter ESX 4 won't see my physcial NIC, it complains my NIC isn't a compatible card. If I switch this by removing the vNIC and make it a E1000 or other setting the error goes away and it lets me boot normally.

So to summirize the setting of FLEXIBLE won't allow me boot inside of ESX4

I've cheked the Duplex for the physcial and vitual host, all are set to 100MB Full Duplex, the VMs and the physcial host have a static IP set.

    Hi Sergey2013,
Thank you for posting in the MSDN forum.
Just to make this issue clearly, you create the unit test for the Asp.net app, am I right?
Which specific VS version are you using? Since Host adapters (including ASP.Net host adapter) are not available in VS 2012 Express for Windows Desktop. You need to install the Premium, Professional or Ultimate version.
You could add the [Host Type ()] attribute in your test method, see
Unit Tests for ASP.NET Web Services.

I am testing VMWare Server 1.0 Build 27828 (free version) and have created a virtual server and it is running fine. The serial number ran out about a month ago and we had to get it reissued, no problem.

    I want to add another virtual server to the same virtual test environment but when added it I get this error;

    "This product has expired.

Be sure that your host machine's date and time are set correctly.

There is a more recent version available at the VMware Web site: "http://www.vmware.com/info?id=4"."

I went ahead and got another serial number and entered it in but it does not work. The first virtual server instance is still running fine. Why will it not let me added another virtual server? I have double checked my procedures and I am creating it properly.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

It is possible with VMware ESX, not VMware Server. You would need to use the VI API to do so.

Hi all, Im writing this from virtial machine, my host machine dont have network!

Im not sure that this is the right place for my question, but I have no idea where else should I ask and I hope at least for some directions where to look. It is very weird, my LAN card does not recieve any packets, sending is fine but recieve is not working. First I tought that is some hardware problem, I took new cable and installed, but the problem was still there. I have DHCP and it was giving my PC an IP and thats all communication my machine to out world; ping to DHCP does not work. Again I tought that there is some hardware problem with my LAN card until I run the VMWare server and I was supprised - virtual macine inside had internet, it was working just fine. So both macines my host machine and virtual machine had same OS (windows XP), to make sure that my host machine is clean from malware I reinstalled windows, and again, my fresh instalation on windows on host machine have connection problems, while virtual machine inside it have no problems at all.

Im asking, how can be that possible, on host machine ping to gateway dont work, but vitual machine inside it works just fine? I have fresh windows on both, the only difference between them is that virual machine is using "VMware Accelerated AMD PCNet Adapter" and on my host machine netwok adapter is "Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-T Controller" a hardware adapter that should be used by VMware adapter.

DB:2.42:Microsoft Nlb In Unicast Mode - How Many Ips Are Needed? dx

Allow me to preface this discussion by saying that this is chiefly a Windows configuration issue, but following their guides has yielded a broken configruration and I am curious as to whether there is something about the ESX virtual networking stack that requires an alternate configuration.

As far as I can tell, best practices for doing Unicast NLB between Windows 2k3 hosts calls for using two network adapters. One for host management, the other for the cluster.

So far, I can only get this to work if I assign a "Dedicated IP" to the cluster adapter, in addition to the Cluster IP. If I do not specify this, I cannot talk to peers in the cluster, even though there is another NIC with a static IP not bound to NLB in each host.

For example, I think it should work like this, with the cluster IP being 192.168.1.100:

    -

    Host 1

    Management NIC: 192.168.1.10

    Cluster NIC: 192.168.1.100

    Host 2

    Management NIC: 192.168.1.11

    Cluster NIC: 192.168.1.100

    -

I configured it this way using NLB Manager. I did not assign a dedicated IP to the cluster adapter when adding a host to the cluster. However, with the above configuration, I cannot ping Host 1's mangement IP from Host 2, or vice versa, or add the second host to the cluster.

What does seem to work is assigning an additional static IP to the cluster adapter, via the "Dedicated IP" field, when you add the host to the cluster in NLB Manager, yielding this:

    -

    Host 1

    Management NIC: 192.168.1.10

    Cluster NIC: 192.168.1.11, 192.168.1.100

    Host 2

    Management NIC: 192.168.1.12

    Cluster NIC: 192.168.1.13, 192.168.1.100

So, does Unicast NLB require 2 Static IPs per host plus the static IP for the cluster, or am I misconfiguring something?

DB:2.42:Vmware Accelerated Amd Pcnet Adapter - Install Failure 9d

I am having the same problem on an XP SP2 box. Details on my side is that we have upgraded to ESX 3.5 from 1.x and with the vmxnet driver type instead of flexible when using vmotion to migrate the client box network connectivity is lost until I disconnect and reconnect the nic connectivity. Removed the current vmxnet NIC and added a flexible one worked just fine in server, but had to run a netsh int ip reset command to strip the old ip settings from the old instances of the NIC. Now with the XP Pro box my driver information is

    Driver provider VMware, inc.

    Driver Date 9/29/2007

    Driver version 2.0.1.8

    Or

    Driver provider VMware, Inc.

    Driver Date 10/25/2004

    Driver version 2.0.0.5

One thing that has allowed me to remove the device from the system and rescan for a driver was system file checker. Run sfc.exe /scannow. That replaced a couple of protected system files but hasn't fixed the problem yet it just made a little progress.

As an aside, even adding them all at once sometimes fails; the NIC does not get a Static IPv4 pool address; but adding them one at a time before the first host refresh is fine. After that, I can delete but not add any new virtual network adapters.

    Hi All,
I have created a GUEST VM (Windows Server 2008 Std) under Windows 2008 Std Host. My Server has 2 network cards and up until this point I have only been using one of the cards.
I set up port mirroring to the port that the Server's second card is attached to. I created a VM adapter for the 2nd card and assigned it to my Windows 2008 Std Guest VM.
With port mirroring active I cannot get to the internet with the Guest machine. I would like to either add a second adapter or create a VM adapter that would allow the VM to access both the main NIC for internet access and the 2nd NIC for packet capture.
Is this possible in Hyper-V? Can someone explain the steps?

How can I add a virtual machine to a VM distributed switch port without connectivity to virtual center, is this possible? Here is the background. If I look at my virtual switch I can see the VM is still connected to the vswitch that no longer has the physical adapter that was moved to the dvswitch. I cannot connect to virtual center to configure the dvswitch because the vm attached to my vswitch is my virtual center server.

If I try and add the dvswitch to the VM by editing settings it does not show up in the vm to select, any ideas on how I can get this VM over to the dvswitch port to connect to the network. The host this VM is on only has 1 network adapter so I cannot just add another vmnic to the switch.

I am using EchoAdapterSampleV2 WCF LOB Adapter and i want this adapter to be hosted on IIS or WAS. So, that multiple clients can consume the same adapter instead of registering the adapter on every client machine.
how can I achieve this (where should I add config file .svc file) ?

    thanks,

DB:2.41:How To Host Wcf Lob Adapter On Iis ? 9f

You can also create your own Virutal directory and application inside IIS to host the newly created service. You just need to place the contract file in the app_code folder and the .svc file along with the config file ( named as web.config ) in the root directory.

This is even true if you want to host in IIS7.0 on vista/longhorn machine, the steps are exactly same.

Currently running a 2012 Hyper-V 3 node cluster and using VMM 2012 R2. I want to start building a HV 2012 R2 cluster so I have configured the networking to support that, and have added a new R2 host. I have configured logical networks, switches,
port profiles, etc for this. I am getting the following error when attempting to configure the networking on the new host and I can't find any information on this error:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Error (25234)
The selected host adapter (HP NC382i DP Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter #56$$$Microsoft:{143077D5-B28D-48B2-AEEF-0BD81597CC8D}) has an uplink port profile set configured with network sites, so logical networks, IP subnets, or VLANs cannot be directly modified
    on the host network adapter.

    Recommended Action
Make the intended change to the uplink port profile set or choose a different network adapter and retry the operation.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If anyone has seen this before, I'd appreciate knowing how you got around it. I can add more configuration information if needed, but for now I'm under a bit of a time crunch.

I was trying to add a second bridged network adapter to VMware server 2.0 Build 122956, running on a Windows 2008 host with a Windows 2008 Guest. However the second adapter would not connect, and reported an error that the host only network adapter was not installed. The host could see the second network correctly, and under the host summary it listed vmnet1 as a bridged connection. Attached are screen shots of the relevant settings and the error message, I had tried rebooting, uninistalling, then a new installation, but I always came back to the same problem. I had DHCP and NAT completely disabled, and no host only networks configured.

I finally gave up and configured vmnet8 as a hostonly adapter just to see what happened, NAT was still disabled, but DHCP was installed on vmnet8 by default. After doing this the vmnet1 adapter was able to connect, and is successfully passing data through the physical NIC to the network. I did not add this new adapter to the virtual machine configuration, nor will I ever have a need for a host only network option.

I have VMware Server 1.0.x configured on a few other servers with the host only adapters completely disabled without any problems, I have not tried VMware Server 2.0 on any other hosts yet to know if this is only an issue under Windows Server 2008, or if it exists under other hosts yet.

Strangely, the virtual machines can ping each other, and 2003 is fine, however CentOS 5 VM cannot ping the host i just get destination unreachable. Also i get duplicate pings on the CentOS VM when pinging its own eth0. Very strange.

DB:2.40:Problem With Nat On Windows Xp Host With Windows 2000 Server Guest k8

    Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me with what I hope is a simple issue to resolve.

I'm running vmware 5.5 on Windows XP, having just upgraded from 5.0.

I have a vitual machine running Windows 2000 server SP4, which is a primary domain controller - it's also running other software such as SQL Server 2000 etc that I'm developing in. I have upgraded the VMWARE tools on this virtual machine to 5.5

I have the VM set up on VMNet8, using NAT. This was working correctly in 5.0 (I was able to browse out to the external network) but not in 5.5 and I haven't been able to resolve this.

    VMNet8 IP configuration:

    192.168.55.X, sm:255.255.255.0,

    Gateway IP address 192.168.55.2,

VMWARE DHCP turned on for range 128 - 254

DHCP Server disabled in the Windows 2000 server guest.

    DNS server installed.

On the host PC the VMWARE Network adapter IP is 192.168.55.1, sm:255.255.255.0. There is no default gateway , nor DNS servers set

I had orginally configured the IP address/DNS lookup manually for the win 2000 server guest, but was unable to see out to the guest or external network. I have now turned on DHCP, but it isn't picking up an IP address from the vmware DHCP server - just an autoconfigure IP address.

Can anyone see anything I might be missing, or offer any suggestions?

    Many Thanks

    Greg

The fastest and easy way is to install from an ISO. Either ISO your DVD or download an ISO copy (as previous posters have mentioned) and upload it to your vmimages directory using SCP or VEAM SCP.

If you intend on installing another VM using the same disk or if you need the disk to install additional extras than having the ISO readily available to the VM makes things allot faster.

DB:2.39:A Vitual Machine Becomes Orphaned 39

If you register the guest os in VC or VIC you should find the guest OS remains un-orphaned.

Registering is just telling ESX/VC that the OS is there, in your case go through the wizard creating a new VM and select 'Use existing virtual harddisk' and point it to the vmdk that was created during your P2v process.

there exists no VMware service that defrags disks in the background so this must be a Windows-service. AFAIK this service is called "superfetch" in Windows 7 - maybe similar in Vista

If I try to choose one of the SCSI devices and complete the wizard, I get an error message where the details say "Number of virtual devices exceeds the maximum for a given controller."

What is this error telling me? Is there any way that I can create additional virtual disks?

Is there any other way to access virtual disks stored on an IDE drive?
