    Its hard to miss the option. You can also set the default for system recordings to first run only.

    Depends how you entered the recording. For example if you hit record button on the guide, hit it again, and a bunch of options show up, click on record series with options. Or go to the series recordings menu and modify it.

    The default settings are in menu/dvr/configure and upgrade/default series options/episodes to record.

    Just an observation:

    Prior to the new release, when on my 2500, I schedule a recording on the [remote] DVR, it used to say "DVR Alert" And then show the name of the DVR device. Now it no longer displays the name of the DVR. It just says "Recond on" (no name).

    Come to think of it, the name is also missing (chedule on") when I schedule the recording too.

    It's not a big deal, since I only have on DVR, but it is annoying.

    Also, when you stop a recording (on a remote DVR), wan't an option to delete it presented (at the time)? I thought this was the way it worked, now it's a two step process (have to go back to DVR menu). Maybe it's only when on the DVR?

    Indeed! Autumn Sunday night's on CBS have always been problematic for Big Brother and later on, The Amazing Race. I add an hour or two to each series recordings. CBS should do what FOX does and build that time in for a post game show.

    Can you provide some additional details on the specific channels (SD or HD) and programs that are not recording, how those DVR recordings are set up (series or individual) via the cable box or via a mobile device or from online?

    Also, I would suggest cancelling the scheduled series recording for the programs that showed conflicts and then re-scheduling them.

    Start by unplugging all Uverse receivers, DVR and any set top boxes.

    At the RG, depress reset button on back for 20 seconds, all lights out, release.

    In about 5 minutes when broadband and service lights back to green, plug in DVR only... Allow time for reboot, after 5 minutes should have live TV and DVR functions (pause, play, rewind, record, fast forward, rewind). Then plug in each remaining receiver.

    CAUTION: this restore the RG to factory defaults, any custom programming made will need to be redone, includes custom SSID, password, DMZ or port forwarding, etc.

    Normally not. Recording info is stored on the drive. That said, depending on the level of corruption, there is always the possibility of it being wiped. It may be a good idea to write down your series list and any individually scheduled recordings, just in case.

    This is how a typical DVR works. Both tuners buffer (record to the hard drive) up to 1 hour of the last channel tuned when not executing a user specified recording. There is barely any power savings in turning off the DVR as it basically just shuts down the front panel LEDs. Bottom line is a DVR is always on and always recording even when you turnit "off".

    I just re-read the op's post and I mis-read it. This is exactly what it is doing.

    There is a solution (according to Verizon)that fixes this and many other problems including returning to the same point in a paused live broadcast after going to a recorded program.

    1) Go to Menu-Settings and press OK

    2) Go to System Info and press OK

    3) The screen will not change, enter the numbers, 4883 and press OK.

    4) Do steps 1 through 3two more times for a total of 3 times.

    5) Unplug the receiver, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.

    6) Wait until the clock appears steadily and push the power button on the box

    There you go.

    Recently my DVR has decided to start recording repeats of a show set up for series recording, even when I have set it to record only new episodes. The repeats even show up in the "scheduled recording" menu. Deleting the second recording also deletes everything,even the first run episode series recording settings. And no, setting the recording from the Guide TV listiing does not solve the problem.

    How do I fix this? I don't need multiple recordings of the same show, especially since some cable channels show repeats over and over during the day/week.

    It works you just have to cancel those already set episodes they won't go away until their date passes on the date/time schedule.

    yep, i had also tested it with "Susan Dey" and removed it. The 'scheduled progam stayed even though the record was removed from the name. Actually that is a better way than deleting already scheduled recordings (imo)

    The short story is that it is a combination of some networks playing fast and loose with their actual vs. scheduled program start and end times plus satellite distribution and processing causing a few seconds of delay. Unfortunately, the delay is not consistent across all channels and all networks

    As you mentioned, for our legacy guide, you can add extra time on the start or end. On the guide screen, hit the RECORD button, then go to the wrench icon for advanced options. You can add extra time to the beginning or end. For a series, you can do this in the DVR Series listing so that all of that program will have the extra time.

    With a digital service there should be no need to worry about start and end times. The DVR should know when the show starts and ends, runs short, runs long, whatever from the signal itself; it is DIGITAL !

    VHS recorders have been able to automatically adjust for years, why not a Comcast DVR ?

    I have a Genie with 2 clients and a HR22-100 DVR in another room. When I try to playback a recording from the Genie, while it is recording another show, from the other DVR, through Whole Home DVR, the playback freezes and pixelates.     First thing to try is resetting both the Genie and HR22 DVRs (red button behind front panel access card door). See if that fixes it. If not, post back with more detail about your Genie and HR22 are networked together for Whole Home DVR sharing. Who installed this equipment? When?

    Start by power cycling the DVR, unplug for two minutes, then power it up again. That should restore your DVR service unless the hard drive is failing.

    If you live in an area that hasDVR manager you can delete or add recordings via the internet. On My DVR Manager Screen there is a box to the right of the program descriptions that says delete. I am using a Moto DCX 3400-M DVR.

    Try unplugging your box for a minute or so and then plug it back in.

    I suggest you do this before you leave the house or before you go to bed. It takes some time for the grid to fully load and for the cable box to fully sync back up again.

    After you have done this, please try again and let me know the results.

    Apologies for the issue that you noted above.

    In reviewing your account I can see that you have two Motorola DCH 3416 DVRs listed. Are you having the issue on one or both? One DVR ends in serial number G005 and the other ends in QY38. If you can identify which DVR is where you are observing this issue, that would help.

    Also, can you provide some additional details on the specific channels (SD or HD) and programs that are not recording, how those DVR recordings are set up (series or individual) via the cable box or via a mobile device or from online?

    There should also be a DVR History list that might provide some additional clues. Using the Comcast silver remote control, press the My DVR button, select Manage My DVR from the On-screen menu Then select DVR History. If you see the show(s) that did not record listed, press OK-Select to see if there is a reason listed.

    The reason I ask is when the new season started my wife was very upset when shows we watched last year, for example Parenthood recorded last season but failed to record this season. The DVR shows it as a season pass but for whatever reason it would not record.

    If you replace the box

    When your equipment is picked up or turned in, GET A RETURNED EQUIPMENT RECEIPT. Make sure it documents that what you returned is a modem or tv boxes. If there are any stickers with serial or MAC numbers, make sure those numbers are on the receipt. Keep the receipt in a safe place, don't forget where you put it. Keep it until the middle of the next century. In the past, Comcast has billed customers for equipment that had been returned. Sometimes they lose track of the equipment and the receipt will be your proof that you turned it in to Comcast.

    If you ship the equipment to Comcast, record tracking numbers. Keep those numbers in a safe place. You will need them later if Comcast bills you for the equipment. You can also check the status of shipped items on the delivery company webpage. When you see it was delivered, print screen the delivery status. UPS also offers Track By Email. Use that option. You'll be notified when it is delivered. Save the email-again this will be proof it was received by Comcast.

    Print out the delivery confirmation (if your computer crashes and you lose the info the print out will be your proof of return) This should also be kept in a safe place where you can get to it if needed. I know from experience that having the receipts can save you a lot of headaches. I was able to pull out my receipts when a collection agency notified me I owed for Comcast equipment that had been returned.

    Try doing a hard reboot of your dvr stb. Unplug the ac cable for 30 seconds and then reconnect it. You should not be experiencing that issue. A phone call to ts wouldn't/shouldn't hurt either. 800.983-2811

    No, it should turn itself on automatically (as long as it's still plugged in). You can swap it for another one. Personally, I just leave mine on all the time.

    I tried to do the same thing. Research showed that arrowing over to the channel logo on the guide screen and pressing the red record button brought up the manual recording screen.     Sometimes you can clear up DVR problems such as this by unplugging the DVR power for a moment, then plugging it back in. You will temporarily lose program guide data, but it will be replenished over a few hours.

    Gee you have not provide much info to go by.

    1. What dvr box do you have?

    2. Has it ever worked before?

    3. Have you tried power cycle the dvr box?

    4. Afteryou have power cycle the box did you give it a couple of minutes for everything to load up?

    If you tried all this thenthe dvr might be falling and you should exchange the box with the remote.

    If power cycling the box by unplugging and repluggingdoes not provide you with recording ability - you may have to contact Comcast to ensure that your new DVR has been properly added to your account.

    I have tried to record multiple shows and once the recording is complete the DVR deletes my recording... Is this a known issue or something I have set incorrectly in the settings? I have changed the delete setting from "until space is needed" to "until I delete" and that still did not fix it.

    Thank you for the heads up. I've contacted a local supervisor in my area and he too is having the same issue so hopefully that will help our case. If not what's the point of having a DVR if you can't record...

    First try a reset (red button by access card). If that doesn't fix it, call DirecTV and have the CSR re-send the programming and DVR authorization to your unit. Somehow it has "forgotten" that it is a DVR.Carl

    When setting up a series for recording on the DVR there is an option for recording firstruns or firstruns and repeats. This is similar to the options on my previous TIVO, but for some reason when I select the First Run (which I assume means a "NEW" episode) option, I still get repeats recorded?? Does the DVR not recognize the difference????

    The software supports that feature, but for it to work, the program has to be properly flagged as new.

    As you've discovered, Verizon's guide data supplier (FYI Television) does not reliably flag new episodes as new episodes or repeats as repeats. Often, you will find new episodes flagged as repeats and repeats flagged as new episodes. The result is the feature to record only new episodes is not reliable. On many cable channels, it doesn't work at all; on the "big four" networks, it works, but only with a 60-80% success rate (varies by program).

    On average, I missed several recordings per month with the FiOS DVR due to faulty guide information or improperly flagged shows. The best way to ensure that you get all new episodes is to record all new and repeat episodes, but then the Motorola DVR fills up quickly with lots of old episodes (and recordings get deleted due to limited space). Even that is no guarantee, though, because sometimes programs aren't listed at all, or programs listed are off by an hour -- this happens less frequently. Faulty guide data is probably the #1 complaint about FiOS service on this forum. You can read more information about this in dozens of different threads, but here are a few:

    That and limited storage capacity are the main reasons why I bought a TivoHD for FiOS. TiVo gets their guide data from Tribune Media -- the most reliable guide data provider around. You can see a limited version of Tribune's guide data at Zap2It; TiVo receives a more comprehensive version.

    At some point, Verizon will decide to address this complaint and they'll switch to a reliable operation like Tribune or Gemstar. When that happens, it will instantly upgrade the reliablility of every Motorola DVR in the field. Within few day or weeks, customer satisfaction will improve. But until then, you'll have to cope with it, buy a TivoHD, or switch providers.

    Hi,

    I know this is an old forum, but we just signed up for Comcast about 2 months ago, and are having the same problem. Did anyone ever get a solution on how to fix this or do we need to contact customer service? We missed season finales of a lot of the shows we normally watch, and then last week it did not record a show after setting it up only 2 weeks earlier. Some of these were set up using the website, some through the DVR itself. HELP!

    It is the restriction occuring because of the stream allocations.

    With U-Verse, at once, we can watch or record 4 shows. Recording a program is also considered as a stream consumption.

    So, if you are recording 4 shows at a particcular time, you will not be able to view or record a 5th program. However, you will be able to view any one of the programs that are being recorded.

    Recording and watching the same show on multiple TVs will consume only one stream, regardless of number of TVs.

    I agree with others that being able to remotely delete DVR recordings would be a valuable feature. I am on road a lot and this would be very useful. Does the My DVR Manager setting of "existing program recording priority with a conflict" override a full DVR recorder?

    Can't set to record- I go to desired channel, get grid guide, find show I want and hit red record button, but nothing happens (This has worked perfectly now for several months) - what could be the problem?
