DB:3.38:Best Storage For Efficent Retrieval p8

I'm working on a project where we develop an access-application which uses share price data for approximately 10 years and over 1000 shares (this is just to indicate the size). The most critical part is the retrieval of data which need to be as fast as possible, and I wonder what methodology you recommend. As it is now, we have sorted the shares according to country and then we have a separate row for each date (and a column for each share). This takes forever to retrieve (we use all data at once), so I wonder if you know of any alternative solutions (like storing all quotes for a stock in some binary form or something).

    Thanks in advance,

    K J

"Retrieval of data" -- this isn't very precise, isit?

No, but "we use all data at once" is a bit more
precise, don't you think? To minimize the number of
times we need to query the database, we put all data
into float arrays. Right, that's why I mentioned the summarized datasets idea. Which is what your float arrays are, in a way. You could have the process that updates the detailed database table also update a summary table whose structure corresponds to your float arrays, perhaps.

Have a look at Ralph Kimball's book "The Data Warehouse Toolkit", you might get some ideas from it.

Currently my VDP appliance is in the Virtual Machine Network. Based on the VDP appliance architechture and the way it performs backups, what is the best/most efficent VLAN to place the appliance in? Should I move it to the Storage or VMotion networks? Where is the backup traffic occuring?

    I have 4 vlans configured.

    VLAN10 - Virtual Machine Network

    VLAN20 - VMKernel for Storage

    VLAN30 - VMKernel for Vmotion

    VLAN40 - VMKernel for Management

    Thanks for your help.

    DB:3.02:Vdp Appliance Network Placement pm

By default your VDP VM will be in VM network.. Your backup traffic will pass depending on the transport method: Hot-add Transport You can think of hot-add transport as a special case of SAN transport where the backup host is also a virtual machine. Plus there is a bonus, it works for non-SAN data stores as well. The backup host VM accesses the VMDK objects of other VMs directly from the data store (similar to SAN transport). It can protect all VMs on datastores to which it has access. Pros: No need for a physical backup host Does provide offhost backups for those VMs not collocated with VM backup host The most efficient backup method for NFS based data stores (e.g. NetApp or FileStore providing VM storage) Cons: It does use ESX server resources where the VM backup host is deployed You cannot protect VMDK files larger than 1TB (a vADP limitation with hot-add) NBD Transport NBD stands for network block device. In this method, VMware Network File Copy (NFC) protocol is used such that the VMDK object looks like a block device to the backup host which can be read through network. You need one NFC connection for each VMDK file being backed up. Thus backup is streamed from ESX/ESXi systems VMkernel port to VMware backup host. If your ESX/ESXi hosts have VMKernel ports (known as the management ports) with dedicated uplinks, your virtual machine traffic links are not affected. Pros: Works for all kinds of data stores, even the ones directly attached (DAS) to ESX hosts The simplest one to setup from infrastructure perspective works with both physical and virtual backup hosts. Cons: Not an offhost solution. ESX resources are used for backups.

Looking for suggestions of current best practices for
creating data driven content considering all of the options out
there with Flex, Spry, XML, SQL Server, etc..

I've used SQL Server in the past, but not sure if this is
still the best way to create a server side solution via
    ASP/ASP.net.

What I'd like to do right off the bat is to provide a search
form on my site which then returns results based on that search.
I'd love to use an XML file for data storage, but I can't figure
out how to filter data by passing it a search value. Ideas here
    would be great.

I've also played around with some of the dynamic features of
Flex, but it's a bit slow when it comes to filtering data (I'm
seeing a second or two delay when filtering data)

Am I still best off by using a database driven solution?

    Thanks!

why as a best practice we don't use joins compare to views.

please give details in terms of processing and data retrieval.

    DB:2.71:Regarding Join zj

Joins in ABAP Coding are OPEN SQL Statements and therefore have to be transformed into SQL itself - which takes time.

A View is stored within the database - which results into some more benefits:

    - Reusability

    - No time needed to transform OPEN SQL into DB specific SQL statements

    - Database optimizer can handle the index uses, which makes selection faster (or less expensive).

    DB:2.57:Esxi San Boot ff

First you can find out the support by looking at the hardware compatibility guide http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php.

Both HP and NetApp storage arrays works with ESXi and you can use it for SAN boot and deploying VMs. Based on your storage requirement like speed, capacity, multipathing etc. you can decide on the storage array model to be used in your ESXi infrastructure.

To get more details on ESXi Boot from SAN and to do the configuration you can refer to the section "Using Boot from SAN with ESX/ESXi

    DB:2.55:Algorythm For Image Retrieval pc

what algorithm that oracle 9i intermedia uses for image retrieval based on texture??

    DB:2.55:Algorythm For Image Retrieval pc

Matching of images in interMedia is based on extracting color, texture
and shape features from the image and comparing them. The features
are extracted by first segmenting the image into regions according
to color, then determining the features for each region. Color
and texture information are also determined globally (by unifying
the region based information) to generate global color
and texture histograms. Both the region and global information
    are stored in the signature.

The underlying distance measure for comparison is the Manhattan
distance, which is enhanced and combined with a variety of other
    measures depending on the feature.

In the current implementation color is characterized using
the HSV color model, and each computed distance between
two values is weighted by the difference between the two
colors in the HSV color space. Texture is characterized
by contrast, coarseness and directionality. Shape is
characterized by area, perimeter, circularity, aspect ratio
    and moment variants.

When you did the copy manually, what command did you use?  RME is not doing anything special.  It will first create the file mentioned in the URL (on the RME side), then execute that copy command from enable mode.  A time out typically points to a firewall, ACL, or host-based security application blocking the TFTP transfer.

I'm just learning to move from a novice into more intermediate use of Multi-Media projects. What's your advice? I am willing to learn iPhoto and storage if that's what seems best for image retrieval. My suggestion for storage is to Burn them to a DVD or CD. DVD's will store more inf. ( 4.7 GB's ) ,CD's (700 MB) . As i understand I-Photo is a viewing application not a storage . Your photo's are all in Photo Library , not the Library in I-Photo. You can transfer them to your external harddrive , however it could crash. The only true Back up is burning them , even then you could damage the DVD's. So then you would back up with another DVD. Burn your photo's in the time period you feel most comfortable with. You can than view the Disc in I-Photo. Good Luck P.S up grade to 10.4.7 and I-photo 6.0.4

Faces on top of other faces like that are know as "lamina" faces - think laminated paperWhen two polygon faces share all their vertices and edgesThere is an option in meshcleanup for lamina faces that should help.looking at your first image, I'd say the joins between the faces are a bit haphazard though - the lamina faces cleanup may give better results if you merge vertices across the model first. (grab all the verts, editmeshmerge use a really small value like 0.001)Rather than back face culling (which is going to show you which way a polygon is pointing) use the xray shaded mode. (in the panel "shadingxray")where the xray is more opaque - you have more doubled up faces. I also find the poly count really useful for cleaning this stuff up.Try to work out how you managed to do this when you were modelling so you can avoid it in futurehope that helps

Is it still inverse order of hour-glass?

    Thanks

DB:2.49:Optimal Outline Order For Hyperion Reporting sf

hyperion Reporting (Financial Reporting)uses Report scripts to generate its data. The optimal report has dense dimensions as the columns and inner most row of data from the dense dimensions. if you have a common format of how the reports pull data having the outline ordered from the left most report row member to the right most member
So if you had the sparse dimensions of product market and customer and your report looks like customer, product market switching the order of the dimensions to match that could help report preformance (assuming you are drilling into each of these dimensions. I've also heard having your most commonly accessed sparse dimension last is better. And of course if you are using attribute dimensions in your report having the base dimension associated with the attribute dimensions last is recommended for better report retrieval (I don't know why)

DB:2.48:How Do I Archive My Older Hotmailoutlook.Com E-Mail For Future Retrieval jp

    Hi,

As I understand, you don’t want to delete your old messages. Since your mailbox is getting full, you need to save the said emails on your local storage like hard disk of your computer. You can do this by using a mail client like
Windows Live Mail. You can create a storage folder in the said mail client to
save your old messages. You also have the option to export your emails in your hard drive. For more information you may check this article:

I hope this helps. Should you have further questions, feel free to reply to this thread.

    Thank you.

    Hello
I'm using Azure Table Storage for my Worker Role logs, with a 1-minute transfer schedule. So far I have about 30k records stored.
Queries against the WADLogsTable are ever so slow. Using Azure Storage Explorer, with a filter such as

    Timestamp datetime'2011-11-25T09:30:00Z'
the retrieval time for a few hundred records is typically about 40 seconds. (best time 15 seconds, worse isover a minute).Wireshark traces show that just a few seconds are spenttanking the datafromthe cloud tomy local
Azure Storage Explorere, depending on the number of rows returned. The rest of the time is presumably down to filteringon the table to chose the recordsto return.

Is this typical? Is there any way to speed this up?

    Hi,

You could try a third party file retrieval software such as the free option on the link below.

    http://www.piriform.com/recuva

You stand the best chance of retrieving this file by not doing anything on the PC which has had the file deleted so install the above application on a USB drive using another PC and then use this to see if you can recover the deleted files.

DB:2.44:Will Mvvm Solve Async Data Retrieval Problem jj

I have a Silverlight application that access data through a Web Appliction that uses Entity Data Models and WCF Data Services. Most of the data is being used in individual controls like textboxes rather than grids, lists or comboboxes.
Due to the async data retrieval, BeginExecute/EndExecute, I have a problem determining the best way to update the UI when data retrieval completes.
I can retrieve the data in the code behind file and update the UI in the method that callsEndExecute() but I'd rather retrieve the data in a class separate from the UI andnotify the UIwhen the data is ready.
I have been researching MVVM and most of the articles indicate it is the solution for data binding but nothing I found really comes out and says the ViewModel is a communications layer between the data service and the UI.
If I derive each of my class that call the data service from a ViewModel that implements the INotifyPropertyChanged interface, will I be able to raise a PropertyChanged event when data retrieval completesand handle the event in the UI code behind to
    populate the controls?
Is there a better way to handle the async data retrieval?
    ThanksTomBean

DB:2.44:Will Mvvm Solve Async Data Retrieval Problem jj

PropertyChanged is ofcource an Event and you just need to raise this Event and needn't to write any handler. Its handled by Silverlight Framework to update the UI based on the change in the binded Property.
Give some time to understand my first reply.
Ok - One more explanation towards INotifyPropertyChnage.
Suppose you have a TextBox (T)and Button (B). T is set with some Text value =XYZ. Now you want is set this value to ABC on click of Button.
What traditionaly you do- In the click handler you write something like T.Text = ABC. So what you are doing here you are explicitly setting this value in Code Behind. Say, Text has to be set is differenet - different action then what you will have to do
on every action you have call the T.Text = Something. Don't you think it's very complicated to handle this way.
To resolve above problem MS came up with INotifyPropertChange. So what will happen if Text property of T is binded with some variable (say X in ViewModel) then on change of the same you just need to raise the PropertyChanged Event by some mean inside the
property setter. So the Update of the UI will be taken care by the SL framework.
Hope this will help to undersand the SL Framework.Dhananjay(Tech Lead). Please mark the reply as answers if it helps.

The Java Swing components support HTML, and RTF through the JTextPane

DB:2.43:How Should I Read From Isolatedstorage On Application Startup? 98

Are people doing this? The guidance is contradictory.

The Application Lifecycle lab in the WP7 Training Kit (Offline) says in Exercise 1, in the section Walkthrough of the Life Cycle of an Application:

When the application is started, the Launching event is raised. In the handler for this event, an application should read any necessary data from isolated storage to present the user with a new application session.

The code in the example does this. But in the diagram *right underneath this section* it says in the box Lauching Event:

Your application is not required to perform any action. Your application should not perform Isolated Storage or network data retrieval, delaying application startup.

This view is further supported in the MSDN library. Executing Model Best Practices for Windows Phone at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff817009(VS.92).aspx says:

If an application relies on data from isolated storage, you should not load this data in the Launching event handler or in the Activated event handler. Disk operations can take several seconds and these events are called before the application is loaded
and active, so accessing Isolated Storage in these handlers results in a long wait time as the application loads. Instead, you should load data from Isolated Storage asynchronously, after the application has loaded.

Personally, I think the pragmatic approach would be this: If you need to load start-up data, check whether the delay doing it synchronously in the launch event is detremental to the user experience. If it is, then do it asynchronously.

The question I have though is this: If I do decide to go the asynchronous route, where would be the best point to launch the asynchronous load, from the launching event? Or somewhere else?

Either way, it would be nice if the advice in the training kit was consistent with MSDN.

    Thanks,

    James.

DB:2.43:How Should I Read From Isolatedstorage On Application Startup? 98

It really depends on what information your loading. Most of my information is required immediately after launching the main menu to turn items on or off (settings). So I attach this to the event for the main menu being loaded, prior to the is Data Loaded
function. My isTrial() is also cached at this point by writing the status to Isolated Storage and read again when my second page is launched and cached to a variable so the check is performed one time instead of every-time I call it to check. This also allows
me to get around having to recheck trial status when I re-activate the window so a little code is saved.

list of benchmarks published by them. One set of benchmarks that draw my attention can be found inside Storage Type Comparison (I am not giving the direct link, since it seems that there are some problems opening it). The last benchmark on the page is
about throughput of Sql Azure vs Table Storage. To my surprise Sql Azure is marginally faster when it comes to writes, while Azure Table are marginally faster when it comes to reads. I would have expected Table Storage to perform much better, since performance
/ scalability are key aspects for a non relational, NoSql database.
Leaving the benchmarks aside, even the
Azure Storage scalability targets for Table Storage seem a bit low. 500 entities / second per partition wouldn't be that bad, because it can be overcome with a good partition strategy, but the 5000 entities / second per account seem to be on the low side,
especially considering that we are talking about entities retrieval and not full queries.
Taking the above into account, I tend to believe that when
Sql Azure Federations will be available, they will actually be much more scalable than the Azure Table storage. Furthermore, I am getting the feeling that there hasn't been much development effort on the Azure Table Storage for quite a while. Just as an
example, secondary indexes have been announced for more than two years, but as can be seen

here, even now there isn't a release date for that feature.
So, as it turns out, Table Storage is not very scalable and Microsoft doesn't seem to be putting much effort into it. Am I missing anything? Is Microsoft dumping Table Storage in favor of Sql Azure (which with the addition of federations should become scalable)?
Have you guys successfully used the Table Storage in highly scalable applications? If so, what were the use cases?

    Best regards,
    FlorinMy technical blog: ducons.com/blog

DB:2.41:Is The Scalability Of The Azure Table Storage Rather Low? d1

Hi Igor, thanks for your thoughts. I agree with you, Sql Azure wasn't scalable and its performance is lower than a cheaply priced dedicated server running Sql Server. In fact, Sql Azure was the bottleneck in scalability for any application deployed to
Azure that needed relational data. But, as mentioned in my original post, this should change with the arrival of Sql Azure Federations, which should be publicly released by the end of 2011. You can find more details on how it works

    here.

I also agree with a very important observation that you made, which is that speed and scalability are two different aspects. However, I would have still expected Table Storage to shine in both of them since its engine should be much more focused (no relational
support, much simplified transactional support, no secondary indexes, no constraints, no referential integrity, no triggers etc.). Furthermore, speed aside, the benchmark that I am mentioning in my original post showed a throughput of about 7000 entities /
second (I assume that each entity was retrieved with an individual query) which is more than the Storage table scalability target of 5000 entities / account / second.

To put more math in the discussion I have just performed a small test on my laptop with a local Sql Server 2008 R2 Developer edition database instance. Before giving any numbers from the test, I just want to point out a few facts. My database instance has no
speed optimizations what so ever. It is just a default setup, but it is hosting multiple databases. My laptop runs a 64 bit version of Windows 7, has 4Gb of Ram, a dual core processor (Intel I5 M560) and I have a single 7200 rot / min hard disk drive. At the
moment I ran the test I had quite a lot of applications opened (browsers, development tools, multiple database instances etc.). Task manager showed me 87 processes running during the test. What I am trying to emphasize here is the fact that my environment
is in no way as optimized as a server would be.

The test database I used had a single table with quite a simple structure (four columns: int primary key, nvarchar(50), nvarchar(50), int). The table was populated with one million rows. Using a single threaded application, I managed to run 12300 queries /
second. Each query retrieved a different row (to avoid caching) and I used the DataReader class (no Linq). The query itself was quite simple, but that is probably as simple as the queries for which the table storage scalability limit is designed for:

select id, firstName, lastName, age from Person where id = @id

Yes, you can increase the number of entities / second in Table Storage by creating additional storage accounts, but that is not very elegant since it will involve that you add an additional layer in your application that would decide to which account to direct
the requests. And even after that you will have a NoSql data storage, with all its limitations (and some of them they are quite big), that is going to be marginally more scalable than a relational database ran from a laptop.

From my point of view Table Storage is pretty much useless if scalability is key, but this is why I started this conversation, maybe I am missing something.

On the other had, Sql Azure Federations seem quite promising. If anything, I think that on the longer term Microsoft is going to favor them since they are easier to charge. In Sql Azure Federations, each time you need to scale horizontally you create a new
database instance which is going to be individually charged. In Table Storage, if your data is split between multiple servers (which should happen automatically based on partition keys and the load your storage is experiencing), Microsoft has no way to charge
the number of servers you are using.

    Thanks,

Neither XSU nor XSQL depends on Oracle8i.

You can run both technologies -- XSQL makes use of XSU under the covers -- from your middle-tier web server against Oracle 7.3 or 8.0 as well.

Just make sure you're using the latest Oracle8i JDBC drivers to do the connecting.

    Hi Rafal,

You could technically use the jdbc driver within the HANA client to do this. There a are couple threads that have already discussed this topic. If you haven't seen them already:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-27057 (read the comment section as well)

    Hello!

Our Business people want the emails sent to users of the billing outputs to be stored somewhere for easy retrieval and re-sending. I am not sure SAP currently stores these emails - or does it? Can anyone tell me where?

    Many thanks.

DB:2.39:Storage Of Billing Document Outputs kz

SAP stores them within transaction SOST. You need to be careful about who you give access to SOST to, as it shows all e-mails and faxes sent from SAP - this may include purchase orders, HR documents etc.

Alternatively, you could write a query in SQ01 to read tables SOST and SOOD to get the information to pass on to a super-user with access to transaction SOST.

You can also repeat output for billing using VF02, or using VF31 for mulitple documents.

    Greetings,

To access shortcuts in BlackBerry you need to use Universal URL provided in Application Configuration - SourceOne Email Management Console.

Important : In the External URL field, specify the DNS CNAME alias of the server that is running the SourceOne Mobile Services. Do not specify a fixed IP address or a hostname, because IP addresses and hostnames can change. File shortcuts that have incorrect URL information cannot be updated.

    Hello all,

I've an ESX 2.5 server with some SAN LUNs via HBA and a local SCSI storage, all formatted as VMFS.

I'm in the need to copy some .vmdk file from the LUNs on the SAN to the local SCSI storage. I'd like to avoid the export/import method.

Which is the best method to use?

I think that /bin/cp is not the best method since it is not very efficent.

I've read on http://www.vmts.net/vmkfstools.htm that I can use vmkfstools like this:

    vmkfstools -e /vmfs/vmfsname/target.vmdk -d vmfs /vmfs/vmfsname/source.vmdk

but I don't understand if this works across different VMFS.

    Thank you.

    Kind regards,

DB:2.39:The Fastest Way To Copy Vmdk Files From One Lun To Another? kx

I'm still going to go with a vmkfstool with the -d vmfs[/b] to duplicate a vmdk from on vmfs to another over the import/export (-i) solution.

With the import/export you will need to read the full .vmdk once, write the exported, read the exported, and write the full .vmdk. That's will take more time and do more I/O operations. One positive effect using this method though, you will have a spare exported vmdk in case of problems.

DB:2.39:Partitionset Does Not Implement Portableobject (Or Have A Serializer)! cx

I am looking at how to migrate some code from Coherence v3.3 to v3.4 (using POF) and has run into a problem. The code is wrapping a PartitionSet inside of a invocable and this works ok with 3.3 (PartitionSet implements ExternalizableLite) but with 3.4 it does not work (without changing the code) since PortableObject is not implemented PortableObject!

I hope this will be fixed in a maintenance release (perhaps there are also other API classes that do not implement PortableObject that would benefit from implementing it?).

What is the most efficent work-around (is there for instance some efficent way to serialize/de-serialize any object implementing ExternalizableLite)?

I can of course read out all the information in the set and turn it into a bit-set or an array of ints and serialize (and the same thing in reverse direction to de-serialze) but it sounds quite inefficient....

Anyway, regarding my answer above, it might not work (see the warning in the javadocs for the ExtLitePofSerializer). If it doesn't, you can write an external PofSerializer yourself that will work in a more conservative way:

    public class SafeExternalizableLitePofSerializer implements PofSerializer {
    public void serialize(PofWriter pofWriter, Object o) throws IOException {
    Binary binObj = ExternalizableHelper.toBinary(o, new DefaultSerializer());
    pofWriter.writeBinary(0, binObj);
    pofWriter.writeRemainder(null);
    }

    public Object deserialize(PofReader pofReader) throws IOException {
    Binary binObj = pofReader.readBinary(0);
    pofReader.readRemainder();

    return ExternalizableHelper.fromBinary(binObj, new DefaultSerializer());
    }
    }

    Regards,
AleksYeah, I wrote about the same class, I just did not posted because believed that is what the class you posted does.
You also possibly need to set the context class loader in the serializer.

    Hello All!

I am trying to decide the best or most efficent way to create an available beds list in vb.net. I have a datagridview in which, one column lists all the beds that are in use. I need to populate a combobox on a seperate form with the beds that are not in use. What do you all think the best way to do this would be? I have approximately 60 total beds, at any given point there can be any number in use. Of the 60, several are sort of place holders and can be used multiple times, I think just creating those in the box is sufficient but for the rest, I cannot allow any one to be used more than once. I appreciate any suggestions you may have to offer. Code samples would be most appreciated. Regards - Tim

    DB:2.38:Best Way To Create A List? 3p

You can create a DataTable to store the bed information, the DataTable which has three fields:

    BedID     int,
    IsUsed    bool,
    CanUseMoreThanOnce   bool.

Then create a DataView from this DataTable with RowFilter set to IsUsed=true which filters out the beds that are used, bind this DataView to the DataGridView. Add a button to the form, click on which opens another form, which named FormForBedNotUsed for example, on the FormForBedNotUsed form, create a property of DataTable type which we'll use it to retrieve the same DataTable from the Form that the DataGridView is on. DB:2.38:Lwip Ethernet Sending Numerical Data 1c

I ran into a similar sounding problem recently. I am running the lwip echo server on a VC707 using Microblaze. I made some edits to transfer and parseunsigned words to and from the eval board.

I casted the pointer to the payload as a uint32 pointer, and found that the word being read didn't make sense. For example, if in memory the pointer was pointing to 0x00000006 (in memory 00 00 00 06 00 00 FF FF, pointer location in bold) it would read it as 0x00060000.

While debugging I noticed that the payload was pointing to address0xc00b0176, which isn't word aligned. The process reads out 0x00060000(code: Command = DataArrayIn[0]; where DataArrayIn is pointing to the address of the payload). Which seems to me like the compiler/processor is reading from the wrong address, presumably 0xc00b0174.

I have a temporary workaround where I memcpy the payload to a word aligned memory location.

    Hello everybody

we have just implemented SAP 4.7 TRM and we are investigating possibility of integration with automatic storage retrieval system. Do you know if there is a SAP MFS solution for the connection between SAP TRM and the PLC?

i know that the module is present on EWM 7.0. What are the possibility of connection between SAP 4.7 TRM and PLC?

    Any suggestion?

Thank you very much for your collaboration

    Regard

    Andrea

DB:2.38:Sap 4.7 Trm And Plc - Mfs az

    Hi,

Generally, a "simple" way to connect a PLC to an ERP system is via OPC. Many PLCs already come with an OPC server provided by the vendor and there are plenty of 3rd party OPC servers that are available from companies like Kepware and Matrikon (now Honeywell) that connect to a wide range of SCADAs and PLCs.

Once the data is available via OPC it can be interfaced to SAP via SAP ODA, MII or by 3rd party methods. Each one has their own pros and cons.

You may want to take a look at this web site: [www.opc-to-sap.com]. Since it provides information on a supported product that can simplify such projects.

Can anyone suggest me an efficent SQL which can return range of rows for example I want to display records with rownum=20 and rownum=40.

    DB:2.38:Display Range Of Rows jx

you can use minus with two select stmt
select empno from emp where rownum =40
    minus
select empno from emp where rownum =20

this will give you the row from between 20 and 40
    null

Generally, I do not see a Skype x64 distribution nor souce, which we can compile, configure and install. Available for for download is the 32 bit platform Skype. Briefly, I see that there are some posts here describing problem with Ubuntu, earlier versions of Fedora, etc.

I know it does not benefit much to have a 64 bit skype, as it is an agent like software, where the primary functionality is at the hosted end (aka server/service). But it would much help us having a more efficent software operating in our computers.

For myself, I've got an old computer and being efficent matters; ie performance and "long waiting" is not something I would be keenly looking forward to (this includes storage space of software). Honestly, I'm saving to buy myself a SSD, which should remove the last inefficent (motorized HDD) from my old computer.

DB:2.38:Skype For X64 Platforms (A Feedback And Request) xp

I've been retrofitting "low resource" machines for a few years now, so I don't get around x64 much. I start all of them out, regardless of O/S, with Skype 2.2b. Yup, the OLD version that 99% of this board WHINES about. I haven't run into any issues that I can pin to "efficiency", either on the bench or in "real world" use. What kinds of issues are you facing, and with what?

Please tell us...What operating system are you using? What version? What desktop? What kind of computer are you using? What kind of inputs and outputs do you have? There's more, but let's start there, shall we?

    hello
is GPFS on AIX considered the best storage option for oracle RAC ?
    thanks

    DB:2.37:Best Storage Option da

    1) ASM is Oracle best practice for storage of both single instance and RAC 10g Oracle databases
    2) Once you use it and know it, there is no come back from ASM, is by far the best performing, easy to manage and flexible storage option.
    3) Dont be afraid of raw devices + ASM, you will configure your raw devices once and then all the work you have to do is from time to time just add new disks according to your requirements, ASM + Oracle Managed Files will do all the dirty job: Extend datafiles, balance and spread IO.

    1. Surf the web and talk at the same time - I was watching a commercial for the ATT iphone talking about how it could surf and talk at the same time, so I decided to test the kin out as well. Turns out, the KIN is easily capable of doing this! An excellent feature IMO, soenjoy!

2.Call log swipe - Many have thought that a call log doesnt exist for this phone, but if you are in the phone app and you swipe the screen, you will see the call log with a shortcut to text your friends as well. Another great feature.

    3. Playing games on your KIN - One of the more popular sites to use is playtouchgames.com. I have tested numerous games on the site and they work quite well. Im sure there are several other sites but this one seems to work the best. Saving it as a favorite is the best way to go.

4.Sending ringtones to your phone - One issue I have seen posted numerous times is that the ringtones arent liked by that many people. Personally, I love them, but if you wanted to send your own ringtones, all you need to do is send them to yourphonenumber@vzwpix.com and you can add them easily. If you utilize free ringtone makers online, you can basically put any song/tone on your phone with ease!

    5. Saving Mobile applications on the phone - Most mobile applications are web based, and you can easily save them as favorites, accessable on the top of the browser screen, or you can actually pin them to your "apps" screen for easy retrieval. Whenever you find the mobile application you like, such as mtv, facebook, twitter, etc, click the star and you will be prompted with a "add to favorites"or "pin to apps" screen. This makes using the web browser so much easier and efficent.

Feel free to add your own..

DB:2.37:Cannot Use Automatic Retrieval On Nokia C5-03 For ... f1

I'm trying to use the "Nokia Email" application from my Nokia C5-03 phone and I found a bug in its workflow.

First I've bought a data-plan from my current provider, then I've configured the Email application to be able to connect to my nokiamail inbox. All good so far, I'm able to read my emails as I wanted.

Next I've changed the settings to check my inbox every 5min. Great! This worked as I wanted, the application notified me about any new emails. Sometimes, not sure why, the connection cannot be made and the inbox is not checked. That's fine, maybe later the connection is available but the applications turns off the automatic retrieval so it will never check my inbox again.

At this point I've tried to turn back on the automatic retrieval in the settings and all works great until the next connection drop. It happens every x attempts, where x is 2 in the worst case and 7 the best so far. Having to enable over and over that setting makes pointless to have an automatic retrieval ability. That's what the software should help us do: automatic jobs. Maybe the settings should have a section for those who would like to turn off the automatic retrieval after connection drops or something. I'm not sure who would want to use such a feature. In general, for example if a download is failing the download software will retry it after a delay.

    Background info:
Nokia Suite tells me that my phone has the software up to date (V 21.0.003 installed) and the Nokia Email application is at version 10.02(39).

I hope Nokia will update the Email application to allow me to use a real automatic retrieval function.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

For forms authored and distributed using FormsCentral, all submissions are directed to the FormsCentral servers. If you choose to distribute your form as PDF it would be possible to edit a FormsCentral-generated PDF outside of FormsCentral, e.g. using Adobe Acrobat, to add a submit button that targets a different server.
