Same thing for me. Flashing for any type of graphics related operation. My problem is that I don't have the old drivers. My IT department imaged the system and didn't give me any of the CD-ROMS. I can't believe that Dell didn't test these drivers before they posted them on their website. I've never liked ATI drivers. I have a Radeon in a desktop I built and I never have been satisfied with the performance of the card. Wish I could have gotten the nVidia cardbut this laptopis a corporate standard.

I recently decided to upgrade the drivers for my ATI Radeon X300/550 (came with my Dimension 4700 model) after experiencing some choppiness playing a game.  I decided to download the most recent drivers directly from the AMD/ATI support website as I have done successfully countless times before.  I'm running WinXP Home SP 2, so I downloaded the corresponding drivers for both the X550 model and the X300.  I don't remember ever having to choose between the two before, but I figured one had to work.

So I uninstall all ATI software on my machine as recommended by the ATI install guide, and run the driver install; only to be greeted with an error message:

setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system.  setup will now exit.

This leaves me in a bit of a dilemma, without drivers new or old.  Since then I have tried XP drivers from the ATI site for both model numbers, including old versions, and even found an ancient set provided by the Dell website for series-specific card models.  Nothing works.

I've been wrestling with ATI support for the last few days, but their automated responses really aren't all that helpful.  Is there anybody who has been in a similar situation, or who might have a suggestion as to how I could resolve this?

Hi there, I have an Inspiron 9300 with WinXP installed. I'm experiencing problem with my X300 video card. I am getting a blank screen after the Windows splash screen, the only way that I can use my notebook LCD panel is in safe mode, VGA or if I dissable the vid card in device manager. If I try to boot up normally I get the blank screen but I know that I log into winxp because I don't have a password setup. If I use an external monitor I can see that my X300 vid card is fully operational. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the vid card and the Bios ver is A05. I've reformatted the HD and reinstalled the operating system 2 or 3 times, after each reinstall I'm able to use the LCD Panel normally but only for a short while, if I turn off the notebook overnight and then turn it on the next day I'm not able to boot up normally. I've ran the Dell Diagnostics and everything checks out ok with the Radeon X300 vid card. Any ideas as to what may be wrong or do I have to replace my video card. Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know why Dell doesn't have updated drivers available?

    DB:3.57:Radeon X300 Drivers For Inspiron 6000 zk

The latest drivers (Catalyst 7.2) for the Mobility Radeon X series cards from ATI can be downloaded from the ATI direct link... (to bypass the validation process click here).
For the Release Notes and the Graphics Cards it supports, click here.

I don't know what driver version you presently have installed, but the CCC in the later driver versions needs Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 to be installed, first.

You might want to create a restore point in System Restore before starting the uninstalling/reinstalling process of the ATi drivers, just incase.

If you want to try drivers optimized (modified) for gaming image quality... you can find the Omega Catalyst Drivers 3.8.330 (Catalyst 7.1) from here (He's recognized by ATi and an ATi BETA Tester).
There might be a slight glitch (click here)... but I believe it can be remedied by a small modification to the INF, before installing the driver.

    Aloha,
    Rod

So I have this system, it's 2nd hand to me. All seems to be Ok with it except one dimm slot is bad. Other slot works fine with 1gb ddr2 sodimm. The bios says it has an ATI Mobility X300 card with 32mb hypermemory and 15.4 SXGA+ screen. I loaded Windows XP Pro, all works fine (Windows default VGA driver will do 1280 x 1024 but it's not very good) until I load the Dell video driver and reboot at which point I get no LCD screen video. Bios is latest, all other XP drivers are installed.

Bios screen comes up fine, XP Pro starts but as soon as the progress bar starts across the screen it goes blank. External display is fine. When I look at adapter properties, the ATI options are there and I look at Displays, it says the LCD panel is disconnected with no option to connect.

I install Windows Vista Beta 2, all works fine, LCD panel is detected correctly and Aero is Ok. Vista recognizes the adapter as an ATI Mobility X300 with no extra drivers.

I've basically tried every ATI mobility X300 driver I can find with no effect. Other posts mention the Microsoft driver for this but I don't have that option for some reason.

By practice always update the BIOS first if a BIOS update applies. Not that it REALLY makes a difference in the order but there CAN be times when a particular driver release may not be compatible with an older BIOS.

NOTE: Only update the BIOS if there is a need for it. This isn't something to be done casually as you know. Just in case it messes up.

Also this is the first PCI-express AIW card from ATI and they have short cutted the whole AIW experience. With duel display connection DVI and VGA ATI has not left room for the media connections so they left a their own designed port for their own break-out boxes that do not come with card How sad, for All In Wonder fans who have switched to PCI-express.

The main reason you should not buy this board is it not a video graphics update but a media upgrade that just doesn't perform. If you need the media functionI would suggest a pci tuner card with a X800 xl card by ATI.

mouse cursor in the center of screen, poor video playback, Not being able to rate in Windows Experience index, Etc. Anyone think it would be advisable to try the Vista drivers for these cards instead of the default Win7 WDDM files?

    DB:3.39:Radeon X300 Family Vid Cards 7c

    Hello meckenberg, welcome.

You can try the Windows Vista drivers, though they may not be stable. I would back up any critical data youhave stored on the system first.ATI currently does not have a Windows 7 driver and it looks like that's because the X300 family is considered a 'legacy'
    product.

I would suggest upgrading the video cards if it becomes too much of a problem and you cannot get the Vista drivers to install.

Let us know if this helps,

    Thanks!

Hello-I would like to transfer digital video files to my X300. I need to transfer the files via an IEEE 1394 cable but I believe my X300 only has USB ports. Can I transfer files with an adaptor or can I add a IEEE 1394 port to my laptop? Thanks.

    DB:3.33:X300 - Ieee 1394 Port sa

Welcome to the forum! That's a difficult to handle task since the X300 doesn't have any firewire port or an express card slot. To my knowledge there aren't any plain USB-2-FireWire adapters/converters available on the market and AFAIK the Lenovo enhanced port replicator, as most other third party USB based port replicators here too, also doesn't offer any firewire connectivity. You have to search on the internet for any possible intermediate device, like maybe a possible USB-Firewire HUB (there is one available from Belkin, but that's primary for MAC Minis etc. since those have FireWire ports and so unusabel for you) or some sort of third party port replicator. If there isn't any such HUB or replicator based device with a FireWire port available, you have to use another way (a detour) like storing your video files on some NAS (Network Attached Storage) or external HDD with a USB and Firewire ports and then transferring the files later from the NAS or external HDD etc. to your X300.Hope this helps at least a little bit to clear up the very limited possibilities. Good luck!

Generally you can install every OS on this notebook.

But as you mentioned the question is; are the necessary drivers available.

At this time I found only the Win Vista 32bit and 64bit drivers on the Toshiba European driver page.

But if you would install a Win XP then you could search on the chip manufacturer website for a compatible driver.

For example; if you need an driver for Intel WLan or LAN card search on Intel page.

If your sound chip was designed by Realtek then search on Realtek page, and so on…

    Hello,

Since the begging this computer has been very sensitive with video drivers, the use of SLI technology implies the use of the last Nvidia driver but our computer has never been officially added to Nvidia laptop releases. More generally, with some video games, I have big performances issues (for example Starcraft II), very high temperatures and sometimes artefacts.

Is there a way to have the latest officials drivers (without having to modify by hand .INF file) and what about temperatures issue ?

    Thanks.

DB:3.32: Qosmio X300-14n - Is There A Way To Have The Latest Display Driver? 1p

Thank you for all your answers, and I sad to admit that there's nothing more to update our laptops.

I regularly follow the updates from Toshiba, and my computer is up to date, so I have no special issues. The fact is that I do my own modifications on .INF files from Nvidia drivers, including all specific includes from Toshiba. But this job is sometimes quite long (especially when a new video driver branch is launched) and is done without no warranty et some crash when the job is not correctly done. The shame is with those kind of computers, I mean SLI video cards, you need the most recent video drivers in order to take benefit of the SLI configuration, and this would have to be done by Toshiba.

To finish, one word on laptopvideo2go drivers. For me they are not good enough, because they are too generals and they do not include all laptop specificities.

So to conclude, next time I will take a much more attention to video driver support, and for now, continue my driver's modifications ...

I have Qosmio x300-14x and I have upgraded Vista to Win7 using Toshiba upgrade kit. Everything works perfect.

I also tried to install clean Win7 as you but have had the same problems so I decided to use upgrade kit foe Win7 installation.

To be honest all offered stuff on Toshiba support page are probably for upgrade only and not for clean OS installation.

Old models like our Qosmio x300 were delivered with Vista and Toshiba offers upgrade option only. As far as I know notebook delivered with Win7 will be fully supported.

The drivers, tools and utilities used in Win7 recovery image will be offered for single download too but I do not believe it will be offered for older Vista preinstalled notebooks.

So if you want to have perfect running Win7 on your Qosmio I recommend you to use upgrade option.

I'll jump in too, I'm having the same problems. I've tried the ATI Proprietary 8.8.25 and 8.10.19 and no dice.

To recap where I'm at: I can install the 'fglrx' and use them, but I can't use DRI/XAA. If I have one of the "no_xaa" or "no_dri" set to yes, I can boot, have no DRI support and run software 3d acceleration giving me ~150fps in 'glxgears'.

When I set "no_xaa" and "no_dri" to no, I don't seem to get any XFree86.0.log errors.

I guess where I think it's getting confused is loading agpgart.o. But I have no clue.

On my new rs480 board, WinXP states that that onboard video adaptor only has 4MB of DRAM instead of the 32MB Ive set dedicated to UMA in the BIOS. (BTW. What ever happened to ATI side-port? I saw it in my 3.0 bios, but the board failed to POST when it was enabled. In BIOS 3.2, that option is not available anymore.) I have also added a Sapphire x300 SE PCI Express adaptor to the board to drive my second monitor.

With just the onboard video (without the x300 board installed), winXP reports 32MB, as set the BIOS. However, with the x300 board in the PCI Express slot, with surroundview enabled, the windows shows that the onboard video only has access to 4MB of RAM. This prevents me from driving one of my monitors at the resolution and color-depth I desire. Buying an adaptor with dual outputs and disabling the onboard video (and chucking my existing x300 adaptor) would be a shame. :-(

Is there any work-aound for this issue? I have upgraded my ATI drivers (motherboard and graphics) to the newest ones from MSI and ATIs sites however, the problem remains. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

DB:3.26:Winxp Says That Rs480 Onboard Video Only Has 4mb Dram p7

There are some instructions for enabling Surroundview. You can take it for reference.
    1. Installing a graphics card in the PCIe slot
    2. Enabling the integrated graphics processor
    3. Enabling SURROUNDVIEW in the BIOS.
    Advanced Chipset Feature--Internal Video Mode--UMA; UMA Frame Buffer Size--64MB;
    Integrated Peripherals--Init Display First--PCI-E; Surroundview--Enabled; Saveexit setup;

At last, go to Display Properties to set the corresponding VGA card to
    * Use this Display as the primary monitor
    * Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor
At the same time, check how many capacity the onboard VGA cards memory size is.

Hey guys, when I try to view video on my laptop, the colors are all inverted whenever. Not all video is like this, but it seems like a lot is. Hi!

For the Qosmio X300-11S are no Windows XP drivers available. I searched on the Toshiba driver download website but I didn’t found anything.

But you can search on external websites to get Windows XP drivers. Here are some examples:

    Intel chipset: http://www.intel.com

    Realtek: http://www.realtek.com

    Nvidia graphic card: http://www.nvidia.com

    WLAN: http://195.182.196.33/wlan/

    Bluetooth: http://195.182.196.33/bluetooth/

I don’t know when the P8900 will be released but. You can upgrade the CPU but this will be not supported by Toshiba.

I think the P8600 is fast enough for all.

    Bye!

I have 2 Lenovo x300 laptops and both are using the docking station (Model K33415) and they are having some issues with video. Everything works find on the laptop screen, but the video on the on the External monitor will not show some windows. It is only happening with .PDF and Quicktime videos. With the PDF's, this only happens when a 2nd PDF is opened. The 2nd PDF will not show up, but as you move the cursor around over the window, it starts to show up. It's as if you are erasing the top image to get to the 2nd image. This same effect happens with the QuickTime videos, but on the video, the actual video does not play, just sound. All of this is only when the external monitor is used as primary and the laptop is shut. If you run a true dual screen, this seems to work. I have reinstalled the docking station drivers, applied the latest updates to that driver, installed the latest updates and drivers to the video cards, latest windows updates, latest Adobe Reader and updates. Still no fix. This is happening to 2 laptop docking station I have set up. They are set up identically with same hardware.Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Qosmio X300-15g, after a half a year GPU again overheats, notebook shuts down with current NVIDIA driver.

Their last driver update was in 2009 for this model. Their driver is almost 2 years old. I'm not joking; Toshiba simply does not update video drivers.

They think that video drivers do not need to be updated. They think that it is good for me to use old drivers full of bugs. If I don't use that driver, notebook will overheat.

How on earth is this possible?

How on earth Toshiba does not support their own product (the notebook is about 4500 dollars, and now useless because of driver issue, well I mean, of course I can browse internet, and use notepad...).

    Double Click on the Service

    4. Make sure that it is Started and that the startup type is set to automatic. If its not started, press Start

Admins: please review this content, and make this topic sticky.

I decided to try out Windows XP on my Qosmio X300-130 laptop, that came with Windows Vista 32-bit pre-installed.

I bought XP Pro license + disc.

    Part A: Installation

    ===============

    1. Go to Intel website and download "Intel RST" drivers -- those are required to recognize the SATA disk. Unfortunately Qosmio X300 does not provide IDE emulation in it's BIOS.

    2. Download "nLite"

    3. Start "nLite" and choose option to slipstream the drivers, and choose to integrate Intel RST drivers, and create ISO. Burn the ISO on a CD-R.

    4. The new CD disc should be installable on our hardware

    Part B: Video

    ===========

Unfortunately, Toshiba modified GeForce used in the laptop, so standard NVIDIA drivers won't install on Windows. (they do install on Linux BTW)

PCI (and PCI express) code is made of several parts:

    -VENDOR ID (NVIDIA, main vendor)

-DEVICE ID (chip used, GeForce 9700 GTS in my case)

-SUB SYSTEM ID (Toshiba, secondary vendor)

After you installed fresh XP, go to device manager, and see devices under yellow question mark. (devices that Windows can't recognize)

Click on VGA (it is our GeForce) -- Details -- Device instance ID.

You need to search original NVIDIA driver for your DEVICE ID (that is, so it matches the chip in your laptop exactly, DEV_062A for me).

I had to change one single file from original NVIDIA driver:

    nvts.inf

    %NVIDIA_DEV.062A.01% = Section004, PCI\VEN_10DEDEV_062ASUBSYS_00011179

    --

    %NVIDIA_DEV.062A.01% = Section004, PCI\VEN_10DEDEV_062ASUBSYS_FF011179

    Part C: Network Audio

    ===================

    You need few drivers:

    -Intel WiFi 5100 drivers

    -Realtek PCI-E Gigabit drivers

    -Realtek HD Audio drivers

    Hello all,

I have been experiencing a major issue when trying to use my Dimension 8400, 2x512 GB DDR2 533, 160 gb SATA hdd (non raid), radeon x300 video card. I realize that the x300 is quite poor for gaming, however if it opens paint i'd be content with it...

Upon trying to open Microsoft Paint, the process runs but the application does not pop up. I have checked to make sure it wasn't "hiding " or whatnot. No such luck. I reformated and did a Clean install of a spare copy of XP Pro (Initially this PC had XP Home) I, but with no such luck. I then tried to use the Dell restore disk instead, however that did not provide any help either and I decided to go back to Pro.

When I remove the drivers for the card (I have tried the dell, ati catalyst, and omega drivers) paint will function normally. In safemode I have no issues with paint either...

It appears to be some kind of incompatibility with the 8400 and ati drivers for the x300. I do not have access to a different PCIe card to swap and test, although I am wondering if switching to an nvidia card would help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am wondering if anybody with an 8400 and x300 is able to run paint after formatting and installing drivers...

    DB:3.10:X300 Driver Issue With 8400 j1

Nevermind... Issue arose because in Bios my Sata hdd is set to compatible instead of RAID/ACPI or whatever the default is... In order to fix it I have to format and remember to tell it to load third party drivers by pressing f6 when prompted to during installation. Computer will restart mid boot if I do not have the raid drivers loaded.

DB:3.10:Should I Delete One Of These Radeon Drivers? fp

    My System is:
    Dell Dimension 8400
    1 GB Ram
    Radeon 300se Video Card
    19 inch Flat Panel Display
    DVD+RW drive
    CD/DVD -rom drive
    3.5 inch floppy drive

Recently I finally upgraded my Radeon X300 SE Video Driver. I followed the directions exactly as listed in this Video Forum. I even printed out the directions so I wouldn't make a mistake.

I noticed while I was in Device Manager that under the Display Drivers is listed the following:

    Radeon x300/x550 series
    Radeon x300/x550 series Secondary

Also, on my desktop I have a red ATI icon that says ATI Catalyst Control Center. I am wondering if I should delete the second entry? I don't know if the Display adapter is supposed to show up twice like that or if I did something wrong when downloading and installing the upgrade. Until I hear from somebody that knows, I will leave things alone.

I do notice that the icons on my desktop flicker. I'm just not sure if that is normal or not. When I turn my computer on they will be white, like an icon from Notepad would look like. Then they change into the icons I am familiar with for my programs.

    Thanks for the help.
    Robin

    Chris,

Last week when I updated the Radeon x300 video drivers, I found the information in the Video Forum that you had posted. I printed the directions out and followed them to help me download the new drivers and uninstall the old ones.

When I was in the Video Forum today, the directions had changed, that is why I made the post to see if there was supposed to be 2 drivers listed in Display Adapters.

I printed out the new directions and someone suggested that I uninstall the Software Uninstall Utility. Unfortunately I did, and followed the new directions and downloaded the drivers again.

Even though the downloads were already there from last week, things went smoothly. This time I installed the new drivers in Safe Mode. I didn't do that last time. Now things seem to be running ok. And I still have 2 display items listed in Device Manager, but I'm not going to touch them. I'll just leave them alone. I hope I didn't mess things up by installing the video drivers again, but I did make sure that the old drivers were uninstalled, and so far things are ok. I hope they stay that way.

Every time I start my Latitude X300 it wants to install a USB device, but it can't find the drivers. I've installed all the drivers on the driver CD, but it still pops up and wants to install it. Anyone got any ideas?

Every time i insert a Flash drive in the USB port, the X300 gives me a blue screen and shuts down.

    Have you seen this before?

    Heres what happened...

I recently installed the PC game 'City of Heroes', and it told me that i needed to install the most recent drivers for my video card in order for my game to work properly.

What I really need to for someone to walk me through this process. The last thing I want to do is try it blind and screw up my computer.

Im running a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 1.6 GHz Intel Pentium M, 512 MB of RAM.

The Video Card is the ATI Mobility RADEON X300.

Any help I can get on this matter is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in Advance!

DB:3.09:Inspiron 9300 Ati Radeon Mobility X300 Drivers Fail To Install 7p

When installing the drivers for the ATI Radeon Mobility X300 the installation returns Parameter Incorrect.

The video display remains in VGA mode and the drivers do not show up.

When reviewing the registry with Regedit the application responds Can not open ATI Technologies: Error while opening key.

There are no references at ATI or on the Microsoft page.

Has anyone had the same issue and resolution.

    Hi,

DB:3.09:New Video Card And New Winxp Install 1a

I'm getting a new video card (GeForce 6600GT) to replace the stock ATI x300 in my 8400. I'm going to go ahead and start from scratch and reinstall XP (I just did a week ago and don't really have that much to re-do) just to have everything clean.

Would it be correct to assume that I can turn off the machine, swap cards, boot with the Windows XP CD and move on from there (install chipset drivers, new vid drivers, etc)? IOW, not have to go through all the drive cleaning stuff?

    TIA

You may want to just try looking for 965GM Video Drivers on the Intel Website.

DB:3.09:Inspiron6000 - Atix300 Video Only Outputs Thru Vga - Lcd Is Blank kj

I have an Inspiron 6000 with an ATI X300 and Windows XP Media Center. The other day I started my laptop and the lcd booted fine, I saw the Dell logo, I saw the Windows splash screen but when it boots into Windows the lcd turns off and the video only outputs to the external monitor port. I have tried fn-F8 and nothing happens.

I removed the Ati X300 drivers and rebooted. The laptop reboots fine and displays on the lcd but it displays at 640x480 with 8bit color. If I try to change the resolution the lcd turns off and the video only outputs thru the vga port. I've used driver cleaner pro to uninstall the ati drivers. I've tried all the dell drivers and the ati drivers but after installation and reboot, it still only outputs thru the vga port.
I figured it was the drivers since I can boot in safe mode and the lcd works fine when I don't have any of the x300 drivers installed.

Now I'm stuck with generic vga drivers with a non-native resolution.

Has anyone had this same problem? Can anyone provide any help?

DB:3.09:Inspiron6000 - Atix300 Video Only Outputs Thru Vga - Lcd Is Blank kj

My problem for the last few days was not intermittent either, and only worked in VGA mode or Safe Mode; or on an external screen. I am assuming that those modes do not allow the screen switch to work perhaps? The screen goes blank when loading into normal mode at the login prompt because that is when the screen switch is given control over the power. I have your exact symptoms, and my laptop is now working, and only fix is tapping the laptop below the left mouse-pad button. If I shake my laptop the screen can go back off, and I tap again and it comes back on. The magnet "trick" is only when the screen is working properly and proves that the switch is there, in my case it did not cause the screen to come back on. Good luck.

Recently had to reinstall the operating system on my 4700, which has a Radeon X300 video card, a Sound Blaster 24 bit sound card, a CD burner and a DVD burner. Now I'm not getting any sound or video from CD's, DVD's, or games with the follwing error message appearing on CD's and DVD's, "Your video card or drivers are not compatible with media center". Once I get my internet access restored, will simply following Dell's re-installs on the video card and sound card drivers fix my problem.

DB:3.09:Your Video Card Or Drivers Are Not Compatible With Media Center sp

It should, yeah. I'd use ATi's drivers for Media Center instead of Dell's as they're more up to date.
