    My programming just do some opertion of selecting and updating frequently.When the programme ran for 7-10days there occured ORA-12571 error first followed by several ORA-01041 errors.

    Please help me! Very urgent...

    DB:4.11:Ora-12571 ds

    ORA-12571 indicates a broken connection between the Oracle client and the server. This could be (as Justin points out) due to a temporary network glitch or due to the death of a server process. In either case, the client side marks the connection as broken and in this case has cleaned up the assosciated data structures. Further operations return ORA-1041 as as result.
    The only option at this point is to reestablish the connection to the server from your application or restart the application. Check any kind of memory leak, handle leak, etc. especially when you have a long running process.

    Hi,

    This is usually due to an improper sqlnet.ora setting. Here are some possible causes and remedies:

    - Loose network cables. This error has been observed when there was a loose cable connection to the SCSI disk array (on an Oracle Parallel Server system). Related errors were also subsequently noted in the NT event log.
    - IP address conflict (Oracle 9.0.1).
    - Authentication services. One solution is to edit the sqlnet.ora file and change the line:

    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    to
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)

    Try this solution.
    btw. on internet is too many articles reg this error.

    Tom

    We perform a cold backup (shutdown the instance, backup files to tape, then restart the instance) every weekend. Every Monday morning the first .NET application that uses ODP produces an "ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure" error. When the same application executes again (or any other ODP application), the error does not appear.

    We are using version 9.2.0.2.102 of ODP. Is this a known issue and is there a fix for it?

    DB:3.67:Ora-12571: Tns:Packet Writer Failure ca

    You can call ClearPool or ClearAllPools on the connection object, which will recycle your pool. Most admins call this after they bounce the DB.

    The other solution is to use RAC with Fast Connection Failover by setting HA Events = true in the connection pool. You must have RAC to use this attribute.

    Hi Mandar,
    Thanks for replying. Yes, I had selected dedicated server mode. But SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(NTS) is not commented in sqlnet.ora file. This is how it is appearing in the file:
    # This file is actually generated by netca. But if customers choose to
    # install "Software Only", this file wont exist and without the native
    # authentication, they will not be able to connect to the database on NT.

    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)

    Hi all,
    When I try to connect the DBA Studio (in the WIN 2000 SP 3), client of Oracle , the error message is
    "ORA-12571 : TNS : Packet writer failure."

    But in the TNSNAME.ORA file is working fine. meaning SQL*Plus and other Oracle client can connect.

    Only the GUI application(like DBA Studio,enterprise manager) are giving this error.

    How can I solve this ploblem?

    Thanks.

    DB:3.29:Ora-12571 Tns : Packet Writter Failure 3j

    yes I few more tnsnames.ora file other directory for other version and application.

    For this same version HOME directory, only one file is there.
    so, SQL*Plus is connecting by using this file , but not for GUI applications.(DBA studio,Enterprise manager)

    The TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files for the two homes are identical(copy paste)

But, if I try to connect to the DB using Sqlplus found in HOME2/BIN the connection fails and I receive the ORA-12571 error (TNS:Packet write failure). In both cases I am using the same connection info (logon, password connection string).
    This problem appeared today on only one machine that was working proberly till yesterday.

    Does any of you has ideas? Any help/suggestion would be appreciated.

    Please help

    Shiju

    DB:3.22:Ora-12571: Tns:Packet Writer Failure 3f

    From memory this was often due to environment variables not being set correctly.

    Make sure the following are all correctly set:

    ORACLE_SID
    ORACLE_HOME
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH/SHLIB_PATH/LIBPATH (whichever SCO uses)

    make sure you use svrmgrl rather than sqlplus and use connect internal rather than connect as sys or system.

    Hi all,

    Not sure where to post this, so trying for the general forum to start...

    I have also searched and read all the forums for help on this already as well the Oracle documentation and anything I could find from several on-line searches, etc.

    I have Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition and Oracle Forms 6i installed on Win2K. Everything worked fine when it was just Oracle 8i running, ie: connecting to the database in SQLPlus Worksheet, but when I try and connect to the database in the datablock wizard in forms I get the ORA-12571: TNS: packet writer failure error!

    Don't tell me to re-install, I've done that like 6 times already. I've check the tnsnames.ora files and tried that fix already. I don't know what else to try short of fdisk and redoing everything from scratch again, but I don't have time for that as this machine is used daily for other tasks.

    Any help or suggestions are appreciated!!!

    Thx in advance!
    Michelle.

    PS: Note to Oracle support staff if you are listening (pardon the pun). Your one line of help for ORA-12571 in the existing support files is rather similar to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy's info for Earth... After seeing how many people have posted about this problem and how few resources or real answers there are out there, you might want to consider updating the info on this error, because is deserves something more than "mostly harmless"!

    ok, so if you use the listener you cannot connect

    I had this issue but it wasn't the firewall.

    Can you post the listener.ora for us?
    try to change it, pointing the host address as "localhost" or even the IP Address instead the "hostname". And then try to tnsping your service.
    If necessary, re-create the listener.

    In my case, re-creating the listener and configuring the local ip address instead hostname or even localhost worked well, and I could then connect to the DB.

    Hope it Helps

    Hi,

    I advise you to read metalink note 156483.1 - ORA-12571 when running SVRMGRL or SQL*Plus locally on Windows Server.

    Solution :
    Edit the Server's sqlnet.ora file (located in the Oracle_Home\Network\Admin directory or where the TNS_ADMIN Environment variable is set)and remove/comment out the following line:
    sqlnet.authentication_services = (NTS)

    Hi All,
    ORA-12571 is a network error. Whenever network is heavily loaded ORACLE throws this error. This is a bug in win NT 4. Check which service pack are you using.
    This bug is been succesfully corrected by MICROSOFT and service pack has been released. Try to get service pack 6a. This service pack is released after service pack 6. This service pack will get from MICROSOFT website.

    I was also getting this error but everything calm.
    I recommended this to my SYS ADMIN and network guy done accordingly.

    I think it will definately solve your problem. For any query can contact me on goel_sumeet@yahoo.com.

    Friendly yours

    2. you can not open the standby database unless you open it in failover or swithover mode. once you open the standby database in read/write ,it will loose its identity. you will have to again re-build your standby. it has to be in the auto recovery mode at mount stage so that whatever changes happening at primary stage same will be appled at standby and are in sync.
    acceptional when you come to 11g you can open the database in read mode and still you will be able to keep in auto recovery mode.

    Hi folks, I'm on NT 4.0 SP6 and I'm trying to install the Personal Edition of Oracle 9i with General Purpose database and the Database Configuration Assistant displays error "ORA-12571: TNS PACKET WRITER FAILURE".

    I've read a lot here in the installation forum; I've tried installing from the /install/win32/setup.exe, I've
    tried different database types, running the DCA standalone after the install, and I still get this error.

    I beleive my system specs are adequate, ie. disc space, memory, cpu, etc...;

    Also, in the beginning of the install it tells me that I should have MTS (Microsoft Transaction Server) installed. Is this true? Do I really need MTS for a 'personal edition', non-networked version of 9i?

    Can anyone help me solve this problem?

    Additionally:
    I saw someone respond that Personal Edition was only for
    Windows 98. I don't beleive that this is true. I know folks that have it installed on XP and 2000, as well as 98.

    There seems to be a lot of problems with DCA posted in the installation forum. Why doesn't Oracle fix it so it works right?

    Many thanks for this forum.

    DB:2.89:Problem When Creating Database: kd

    There are two problems, which I faced during creation of database. When creating database with Oracle Database Assistant. One when creating pre tuned database from CD. And second when creating customized database giving options your self.

    Problem # 1:
    When creating pre tuned database from CD. The process of creating Database is 90 % complete and is at step # 3 Initializing Database. It gives error ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel.

    I searched following oracle help for this problem.

    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

    Cause: An unexpected end-of-file was processed on the communication channel. The problem could not be handled by the Net8, two-task software. This message could occur if the shadow two-task process associated with a Net8 connect has terminated abnormally, or if there is a physical failure of the interprocess communication vehicle, that is, the network or server machine went down.

    Action: If this message occurs during a connection attempt, check the setup files for the appropriate Net8 driver and confirm Net8 software is correctly installed on the server. If the message occurs after a connection is well established, and the error is not due to a physical failure, check if a trace file was generated on the server at failure time. Existence of a trace file may suggest an Oracle internal error that requires the assistance of customer support.

    Conclusion:
    What I conceive from this problem and the help available is that, I have to install NET8 again. But I am not sure about the solution, please tell me whether I am rite or not.

    Problem # 2:
    When creating database with custom option. The process of creating Database is 2 % complete and is at step # 2 Creating Database Files. It gives error ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure.

    I searched following oracle help for this problem.

    Cause: An error occurred during a data send.

    Action: Not normally visible to the user. For further details, turn on tracing and re-execute the operation. If error persists, contact Worldwide Customer Support.

    Conclusion:
    What I conceive from this problem and the help available is that, I have to install NET8 again. But I am not sure about the solution, please tell me whether I am rite or not.

    HI everybody

    I'm a DBA ORACLE 8i
    I installed ORacle 8.1.6 in differents ORacle Home
    I previously installed Discoverer, then I installed ORacle Enterprise Manager 8.1.6.

    I use the Net 8 assistant to configure both archives but when I try to test my Names Service, the assistants shows me: Connecting...ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
    The test did not succeed.

    I don't think the problem is Names Service configuration

    Questions:
    Is the listener.ora which is damage o incorrect?
    Is the service Oracletnslistner the real problem?
    Is the database dedicated mode which is causing problems?
    I red the log listener in subdirectory log and I see this information:

    Did you connect to any other versions of Oracle from this same machine? I've noticed that if connecting to
    multiple versions of oracle, or if using multiple oracle
    products (forms, dba studio, reports) for multiple versions on the same pc, the tnsname.ora file that is used by
    a product may be different than you expect.

    Make sure the tnsnames.ora file that dba studio is using
    has the correct entries for the database you are trying to connect to.

    Hello everyone! I really need urgent help here!
    I have an ASP .NET Web Application (4.0) and when someone makes an insert or update operation in any page, the Oracle Client returns this message:

    Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException ORA-12571: Packet writer failure

    The real issue is that this error doesn't show eveytime, it only shows when the user opens the page, wait some minutes and makes the operation. When the user opens the page and immediatly makes the operation, everithing goes well.

    I have tried everything: reistall the client, try with the Web site in another server, disabling the antivirus in the server and specifying the database server in TSNAMES.ORA file. Nothing works! The error keeps displaying eventually!

    What else can I do?

    Have you used Oracle WAS? If so, how does it compare in your

    hi,

    Yesterday, I installed Oracle 10g DB and Oracle Forms 6i on my PC. When I issued tnsping orcl it was not giving any error. Also in sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl established a connection.

    But when I tried the same from Forms 6i it did not happen. also I copied the Tnsnames from the .ora file in the DB to that of Forms.

    I am terribly confused about this problem.

    Can anyone please help me in resolving this? My assignment starts next week and I have to have this setup at home so that I can start working.

    That is Metalink Note:207303.1.

    If you don't have access to Metalink you can't read the article.
    In essence, you need either to install Oracle 9i version or higher version of Forms.

    Later I tried the unistall procedures and still can't get a successful installation with database. I've had a post out here for a week and I haven't gotten any response.

    I beleive my system specs are adequate, ie. disc space, memory, cpu, etc...;

    There seem to be a lot of problems with DCA posted in the installation forum. Why doesn't Oracle fix it so it works right?

    Many thanks for this forum.

    DB:2.79:Problem When Creating Database With Database, Os And Hardware Configuraiton mp

    Problem when creating Database:

    ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure

    Cause: An error occurred during a data send.

    Action: Not normally visible to the user. For further details, turn on tracing and re-execute the operation. If error persists, contact Worldwide Customer Support.

    Conclusion:

    DB:2.78:9i On Nt 4.0 Sp6 Dca Error Ora-12571 Creating And Starting Oracle Instance x7

    I beleive my system specs are adequate, ie. disc space, memory, cpu, etc...;

    DB:2.77:Help! Im Getting Really Confused! Linux Oracle 9 To Windows 2000 Ms Sql. dc

    Please can someone explain the process and what needs doing.

    I am trying to connect an oracle 9i database which is running on Linux Red Hat Enterprise 4, to a MS SQL database which is running on Windows Server 2000.

    I have read the following document https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:1119006956529253705::::p14_database_id,p14_docid,p14_show_header,p14_show_help,p14_black_frame,p14_font:NOT,231458.1,1,1,1,helvetica

    But I am confused as to where each configuration file sits.

    I have downloaded oracle 9i for windows and installed the OTG and tg4msql on the windows 2000 server. On the windows 2000 server I have created the following files:

    tnsnames.ora:

    TG4MSQL.domain.name =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tCP)
    (HOST = IP_ADDRESS)
    (PORT=1521) )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = tg4msql))
    (HS=OK)
    )

    Listener.ora

    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = D:\oracle9i)
    (PROGRAM = extproc))
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = tg4msql)
    (ORACLE_HOME = D:\oracle9i)
    (PROGRAM = tg4msql)
    (ENVS=LD_LIBRARY_PATH=D:\oracle9i)
    )
    )

    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = IPADDRESS)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    )
    )

    inittg4msql.ora
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO="SERVER=IP_ADDRESS;database=MS SQL DATABASE NAME"
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=0
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT=RECOVER
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD=RECOVER
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=OFF

    Then on the Linux server I have the following tnsnames.ora:

    TG4MSQL.DOMAIN.NAME =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MS SQL IP ADDRESS)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = tg4msql))

    I then created a database link on the Linux Oracle server:

    CODE
    create database link tg4msql connect to "sa"
    identified by "password" using 'tg4msql';

    I then tried a:

    CODE
    select * from all_catalog@tg4msql;

    and get:

    Ora-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
    Unable to retrieve text of NEWTORK/NCR message 12571
    ORA-02063: preceeding 2 lines for TG4MSQL

    I feel I have done everything I have read but its not very clear where everything has to be put or how it all ties together.

    Any help would be useful!
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply. I did install the unixodbc driver but haven't set it up properley yet. Will do that now. Thanks for the clarification on what to do as thats the part thats driving me mad. The steps etc to get it all working, and where each config file should go.

    Hi,

    I am experiencing the following error on a Oracle client PC:
    ORA-12571 : TNS Packet Writer Failure. The client PC cannot access any Oracle database, even by using Sql.
    The networking environment seems to be 100 % OK.
    Analysing the listener trace on the server did not help, nor did re-installing the Oracle client.

    Any idea about the problem ?

    Many thanks

    Please help me.

    Check your init.ora (or spfile) for db_name and db_domain and see if your domain name is included in there. You might also have to take the names.default_domain out of your sqlnet.ora file.

    If you're building a database for the first time, and that's where it's failing, don't specify a domain on creation (ie, leave the sid and the global db name the same)

    DB:2.70:Ora-12571 Tns Packet Writer Failure In Oracle8i 8s

    This is a DB connection error. Please check that you can connect to the database (in SQLPlus). If you are using an App Server make sure that this machine can access the DB, not the client machine.

    Recently I am having this error when I try to compile a pacakge body it terminates my oracle session and my SQLPlus on windows NT generates a application error and shuts down. When I compile the same package body from a unix box it just goes fine. Do any of you guys encountered any similar things like this, please share your findings. I have attached the error message in the end of the message for further information.

    DB:2.70:Database Link, Nice But Drops sc

    I have a database link to a remote site (staging server to live server).
    All is well until I throw quite a lot of data (some data from a table full of BLOBs), at which point I get, for example...

    SQL insert into MyTable@Myremote select * from MyTable where ROWNUM 100;
    insert into MyTable@Myremote select * from Table where ROWNUM 100
    *
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure
    ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure

    Does this indicate a problem with our network in someway (it is happy with transfering small tables of rows etc)? Is there any way I can cause it to 'resume' as FTP would on a transfer, or is there a timeout property I need to set somewhere or something?

    Staging server (data being transfered FROM) is 8.1.7 on Win2K (to patch level 8.1.7.0.2), Live server (data being transfered TO) is 8.1.6 on Win2K (to patch level 8.1.6.1.2)

    Any help appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Jason.

    DB:2.70:Database Link, Nice But Drops sc

    Thanks for responding.

    Have checked the O/S event log, no joy. Am setting up an Ora trace at present.
    I looked up the SDU and TDU and can change their settings in the tnsnames.ora file by the looks of it, are there any risks to amending these values?

    Thanks

    Jason.

    Well I would start by checking the O/S event logs to see if it tells you if there is anything up with your protocol, hw, etc ?

    I would also turn on the Oracle trace to see what it says ?

    You cannot resume your operation in fact Oracle will rollback your insert as soon as it detects an abnormal end to the SQL exec thread which will occur when you lose the TNS connect.

    Gut reaction sounds like you are timing out on the network. Just a guess. Have you tried upping the SDU and TDU values in your connect string ?

    Have a nice day.

    DB:2.70:New Db Installation _Novice 8c

    I know this has been talked about before but nobody seems to have given an answer which helps me.
    I recently completed the intro 9i:SQL course and have returned full of enthusiasm to start playing. I have d/l the Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP and installed onto my Win2000 Laptop. Everything installed o.k. except for (surprise, surprise) the database configuration assistant which would not create a database. I tried again after completing installation and received the same error.
    ORA-12571 TNS packet write failure.

    If there a fools guide to installing, and getting a database running on a single user machine which I could then use to familiarise myself with.

    I, at least a manual method of starting a database and then how to log in for the first time through SQL+

    All help very much appreciated.

    DB:2.70:New Db Installation _Novice 8c

    I am also trying to install Oracle 9i release 1 on a windows 2000 server SP1 - a test server, that is. It is not connected to a network and does not belong to a domain. When the installation gets to the database configuration assistant processes, it stays there for ...eternity... and does not continue. If I stop the process, I cannot log in to the database using SQL Plus with trial login name SYSTEM and password MANAGER.

    Can anybody guide me on this? I'm a newbie on Oracle.

    Thanks

    Hi

    I am using Reports 6i in client/server environment. In one workstation (HP notebook with Windows XP) we receive TNS-12571: TNS:packet writer failure when trying to connect to database. We test this against different Oracle database versions (8i, 9i, 10g) on two different network environments - the result is the same. On the same computer we have installed 10g client and it connect successfully to the databases.
    Have someone experience with such problem?

    Hi,

    I have installed Net8 and SQL*Plus from 8.0.5 on SuSE Linux 6.0.
    Using SQL*Plus from Linux to a Server V7.3.4.2 on Win NT works
    OK, but using it against a Server V7.3.4.0.1 on Solaris 2.6
    gives the error
    ORA-12162: TNS: service name is incorrectly specified

    The listener logfile on the Solaris server shows that tnsping
    and the connection startup from SQL*Plus go through.
    The connection string traced by the listener looks the same
    as when connecting to the same instance from a HP-UX client.

    The Linux client logfile cli.trc contains the following error
    trace:

    DB:2.66:9i On Nt 4.0 Sp6 Dca Error Ora-12571 Creating And Starting Oracle Instance ds

    Hi folks, I'm on NT 4.0 SP6 and I'm trying to install the Personal Edition of Oracle 9i with General Purpose database and the Database Configuration Assistant displays error "ORA-12571: TNS PACKET WRITER FAILURE".
    I can't get through the db configuration; All else appears
    to install well. I looked up this error and it says to contact Oracle support.

    I've read a lot here in the installation forum; I've tried installing from the /install/win32/setup.exe, I've
    tried different database types, running the DCA standalone after the install, and I still get this error.

    I beleive my system specs are adequate, ie. PIII, disc space, memory, cpu, etc...;

    Hi,

    I have a problem,
    When I try to connect to the database (Oracle8.0.5) at the SQL*PLUS Client I am getting following error message:
    ORA-12571: TNS packet writer failure.

    I ping ip address n it didn't have any errors but when I tnsping it have a same error "TNS packet writer failure".

    I'm sure that no problem at my tnsname.ora n sqlnet.ora

    For information, I have another client don't have this error n run very well whereas have a same network, tnsname n sqlnet.

    Anyone can give me an idea? i'm really need ur help.

    Thanks in advance,

    DB:2.64:Tns : Packet Writer Failure fa

    It could be problem on the database side. Did you try from a different client machine to see if it's just your machine?

    You could do a loopback test on the database machine to see if it's working okay.

    BTW, this is the Forms forum. There might be a better forum for this kind of question.

    I installed Oralce 8.1.7 and 9.0.1 on Windows XP, and was successful, but when I create new database (using database configuration assistant), it failed, always have error, like ora-03113 TNS:End of file on Communication Channel, ora-12571: TNS: Packet Writer Failure, ora-12560: TNS: Protocol Adapter Error, or TNS-12154:TNS:Could Not Resolve Database Name. Could somebody can help me to solve this problem, I have no idea about this!
    Thanks!

    You need XP pro.
    the setup.exe didn't work on mine, so I just navigated to the autorun file.
