    DB:3.81:Thead In A Waiting On Condition When Closing A Resultset 89

    Hello everyone,
    We are facing some issues with the ms sql jdbc driver. Our application threads are getting into a Waiting on condition state and never come back. No other symptoms like high CPU usage or memory consumption were observed and the all database connections
    are in sleeping state.
    In the attempt to find out what is going on we are collecting thread dumps every time it occurs. And we have noticed the threads are always inside the SqlServerResultSet.close() method.We also found this post (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sqldataaccess/thread/7ceee9a8-09d8-4fbd-9918-0ca065fa182e)
    but it seems to be a differnt case, once we're not observing a long close() process, but a stuck close() process. By the way, as a desperate action by those who no longer know what to do, we followed the recommendation and changed theresponseBuffering
    property to full few minutes ago and will keep watching.
    Here are the details of our environment:
    Diver SQLJDBC 2.0 TYPE 4
    WebSphere 7.0

    Hello... just to comment. With the propertieresponseBufferingset to full the problem wasn't solved. We then changed to the version 3.0, withoutresponseBufferingset to full and we are still having the problems. Know we gonna try

    Is better to show Could not connect to SQL server 2005 !!! or Open TCP.IP port !!!!  than this encripted and undocumented error ?

    I am sorry to hear you are having problem with this, but I am not quite sure about what you are asking in your post.
    If your problem is that you don't like the error message the best way to handle this is to file a bug here:
    http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/productfeedback/default.aspx
    These bugs all go directly to my product group and have to be triaged and formally replied to, so this will allow you to track this issue. It would be very helpful if you could provide details describiing how to reproduce this exception message and what you did to work arround it.
    If your problem is that you can't connect with the exception shown above I would be happy to work with you to get this resolved.

    Hi Mandar,

    Take a look in your server's error log.  It should indicate whether it was able to start up TCP support and the port to which it is listening.  Also, to change the server's network configuration, take look at the BOL, http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189083.aspx

    I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
    Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express?  The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
    If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration?  Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
    server name: machinename( or ip).  I've also tried machiname/SQLEXPRESS
    DB name: name of db instance
    port: 1433(default)
    user and pass.
    My attempts so far results in
    java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket.
    and
    java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect.  Invalid URL.

    Depending on what features you are using then yes it is possible. The connection string would need to contain machinename\sqlexpress as long as thats what you called the instance when it was installed(its the default so unless you changed, life should be good)

    Presuming you are not changing anything else there are two possibilities.
    1. The new driver will not work with the old database.
    2. You are missing something in your connection string for the new driver. That would tell it that it needs to do something different for the old database.

    Is the new driver documented to work with the old database?

    Perhaps you should look at the jTDS driver as well. It is a different driver and seems good enough in terms of functionality from reports in the past.

    Or just use both the old and new MS drivers at the same time.

    DB:2.62:Sqlserverexception: The Statement Did Not Return A Result Set 89

    Hi,
    Before I post this question, I have searched the above topic SQLServerException: The statement did not return a result set both in Internet and this forum, however, I still can't figure out what problem I encountered in my program.
    The background like this, we have a set of java web systems running on websphere 6.1 and systems connect to SQL Server 2000 using its embedded SQL 2000 JDBC driver.
    Now, we need to upgrade websphere to 8.0 and back end database to SQL Server 2008 R2. The original SQL server 2000 JDBC driver no longer work. So we download SQL Server JDBC 3.0 and try on our systems. Then when executing some Stored Proc (SP) in SQL Server,
    JDBC returns SQLServerException: The statement did not return a result set. Then we search on Internet and found update statement in SP will generate a resultset and developer needs to use Statement.getMoreResults() can fix this. We tried Statement.getMoreResults()
    and it really overcome this exception. This test was carried out in our original system codes.
    However, when we try to minimze the scope and exact this SP part and run in another test project, executing the same piece of codes on SP but it does not generate any error and the query returns resultset normally.
    I really have no idea why? Is it possible that running other codes that would cause the following JDBC codes to produce such exception?
    Does anyone has similar experience?
    If yes, please help to share! Many Thanks.

    In future JDBC related question should be posted into the JDBC forum.

    Haven't seen that error before. It seems the MS driver does not like your default charset. Try the jtds driver instead and see if that helps. http://jtds.sourceforge.net/

    Try using the property 'SelectMethod=cursor' in the driver URL

    eg :

    Hi, I've written a very simple jdbc login test program. And after all kinds of problems I've almost got it working. Almost, just can't seem to get past this SQLServerException: Login failed for user xxxxx problem.
    I created a test database (joms) then I created user user1 password1 (sql authenication) I added user1 to database joms. And after trying everything was unable to connect to the database. So I created user2 no password. And still I can't connect to the database.
    I am using SqlServer2008 on Vista, I'v got the latest jdbc (1.2) from Microsoft. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here the connection code, (works gret with MySql, Oracle and Derby, different jdbc drivers of course)

    Class.forName(com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver).newInstance();conn=DriverManager.getConnection(jdbcqlserver://localhost;databaseName=joms;user=user2);Here's the Exception
    Exception: Unable to get connectcom.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Login failed for user 'user2'.

    I think the jdbc is working since the error message is from SqlServer and not jdbc. I wish I could find something like Oracle's sqlPlus. Then at least I could find out if I did everything I needed to do to allow user2 access to database joms.

    thnaks in advance to any and all that reply.

    There is only one user at a time. At a time only one analysis is done on the database. So no problem of synchronization.

    The number of users has nothing to do with it. I have a (blank) master copy of the databse. I then initiate an action that copies the database and allows me to work with the copy. How do my changes get reflected in the master copy? Otherwise, it is simply acting as a template.

The JDBC driver returned the following error message: 'java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]Invalid object name 'Interface'.'. For details, contact your database server vendor.

    What is the exact reason for error?

    'Intreface' mentioned in the query should be a table, right?

    As far as my understanding goes, this table name is not identified in the database.

    Could there be other reasons or areas to look into?

    1) This is not a good idea. Anyone can decompile your applet and figure out how to connect to your database themselves.

    2) Please give us the stack trace.

    Hi,

    Also check whether you have given database connection parameters in the following format:

    JDBC Driver:

    com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver

    Connection: jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://HOSTNAME:1433;DatabaseName=xxxx;SelectMethod=cursor

    I think the deployment is done, because you have not got "SAPClassNotFoundException" error.(If the deployment is not done, the driver file cant be located so this will be thrown...)

    Thanks Regards,

    Senthil.

    The access to SQLServer using JDBC is it very slow ????

    Somebody has a example to access SQLServer ????

    Please, Help me

    DB:2.54:Jdbc And Sqlserver 9m

    With all due respect, your question is similar to "how long is a string ?".

    Without any explanation of your environment, this is a difficult question to answer.

    The answer should be "NO WAY". But, this depends on many things:
    1) Is your SQL Server machine running on a 286 with 512K of Memory ? Or a PIV 1.4 GHz with 2 GIGs ?
    2) Is your network running on Serial cable or Fibre optics?
    3) **VERY IMPORTANT** - what driver are you using?
    DON'T use the OBDC bridge - that will most certainly slow things down.

    Bad news: Good SQL Server drivers are expensive
    Good news: There's a free one that can handle 60-75% of your daily tasks:

    DB:2.54:Jdbc Connection Problems aj

    Hi Leandro Rodrigo Saad Cruz .
    There still has bugs in beta2 jdbc driver,but you can do as follows:
    1. Do not use integrated authentication mode,becauseintegrated authentication will not be fully supported by current beta2 jdbc driver(http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/productfeedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=a0c540d0-3903-47bf-8a11-7c2aac1c119c).
    2.If your sql server not has default instance (eg. not ServerName but ServerName\SQLEXPRESS) you shuld do additional things :
    2.1Go to configuration Manager/Protocols/TCP IP, and entered a port number (eg. 5560) as the default port, and for port value in IP1, IP2, and IP3.
    2.2 just write your jdbc url like this :String sourceURL = "jdbc:sqlserver://ServerName:5560;databaseName=northwind;user=sa;password=password";
    NOTE:
    dotn't care if there not has a defaut instance name "\SQLEXPRESS" ,if your url like this :String sourceURL = "jdbc:sqlserver://ServerName\\SQLEXPRESS:5560;databaseName=northwind;user=sa;password=password";
    you will get an error.
    here a holesample code
    --------------------JDBCConn.java ------------------------------------
    import java.sql.*;
    public class JDBCConn { /** Default Constructor */ public JDBCConn() { }
    public static void main(String[] args) { try { //load the driver class Class.forName("com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver");
    //Specify the ODBC data source String sourceURL = "jdbc:sqlserver://server-1;user=user;password=pass";
    //get a connection to the database Connection databaseConnection = DriverManager.getConnection(sourceURL);
    //If we get to here, no exception was thrown System.out.println("The database connection is " + databaseConnection);
    }catch(ClassNotFoundException cnfe) { System.err.println(cnfe); } catch (SQLException sqle) { System.err.println(sqle); } } }
    -----------------------------------------------------
    output:
    The database connection is com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerConnection@95c083

    default port on sql server is not 1433 but 2433

    Sure. Chane the port number in communication channel to 2433.

    What is the user Id you are using to access SQL server? Is it the windows id? If so, you need to create a user Id in mixed mode for SQL server and use this id in communication channel.

    DB:2.52:[Microsoft][Sqlserver 2000 Driver For Jdbc]Broken Pipe sp

    Hi,

    I have been having this for the past few weeks on Tomcat 5 and Postgres. After a lot of searching I found the reason for my broken pipes was due to the database deamon restarting and the DBCP not giving out connections that are valid - hence the broken connection. The solution for this is within the DBCP setup in the server.xml - you need to add the line:

    parameternamevalidationQuery/namevalueSELECT now()/value/parameter

    (with some select clause that tests the connection) I have posted below my server.xml which also has info on how to do the jini stuff as this too was hard to find on the net.

    This is a good link for the DBCP config setup:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/dbcp/configuration.html

    I'm sorry if this does not solve your problem, howerver hopefully other people out there will find this of use.

    Try using a URL of "URL:jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://PC160832:1433;SelectMethod=cursor".

    The reason for this is that '//PC160832\NCI_DBA_01' is a named instance in SQL Server 2000, if you just specify the actual server name and the port it is listening on (1433 is the default for MSSQL) it may work

    The name of the database is 9876?

    Plan B: if you really must, try quoting the database name: create database "9867".

    DB:2.50:Sqlserver Jdbc Exceptions :Controlling Exceptions Text Format z1

    Hi,Using RAISERROR from within a stored prcedure will result in a SQLException being thrown at the client side of a JDBC connection.I am trying to provide a meaningfull error message to be shown to the end user. However, all exceptions thrown will inevitably start with :  [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]. The following questions then arise :- Is there a way of configuring SQL Server not to display this header ?alternatively,- Is there another way of conveying error messages to the client through JDBC ?Thank you for your answers,Ben

    DB:2.50:Sqlserver Jdbc Exceptions :Controlling Exceptions Text Format z1

    Hi Ben,
    Sorry for the delay in replying to this post. I strongly believe that it is the 2000 JDBC driver that is internally appending this string to all exceptions received from the server. With that said, I would recommend that you use the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver v1.1 which can be found at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/ref/jdbc/. This newer driver is still compatible with SQL Server 2000 and will not contain any prefixed server messages. The RAISEERROR function is the preferred, if not only, method of triggering exceptions to clients.
    I hope you download the 2005 driver and continue to provide feedback on your experience.
    Thanks,
    Jaaved Mohammed

    You can either use a partial object query to avoid selecting the lob column, or configure the query to not use distinct (note this can cause duplicates to be returned).

    i.e.
    query.dontUseDistinct();

    Also make sure that is the correct tcpip port and that nothing else is listening there.

    Hello,
    The Microsoft JDBC Driver for SQL Server is a Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) compliant driver that provides robust data access to Microsoft SQL Server databases.

    The SQL Server 2000 JDBC driver class name is com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver. However, The SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver or later version, the class name is changed to com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver

    The datadirect driver for SQL server appears to be the only certified one for OC4J. Note that this driver cannot be used outside OC4J. For unit tests outside OC4J you will have to use the Microsoft driver.

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/utilsoft.html
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/oc4j/htdocs/datadirect-jdbc-certification.html

    A data source then looks like this:

    data-source location="jdbc/CoreDS" class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource" password="xxx" xa-location="jdbc/xa/XADS" ejb-location="jdbc/DS" connection-driver="com.oracle.ias.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver" username="xxx" min-connections="0" max-connections="10" url="jdbc:merant:sqlserver://host\TEST;Database=XXXX" name="XXXXDB"/

    Hi, I'm using the Microsoft SQLServer JDBC Driver and I'm getting the following error:[Microsoft][SQLServer JDBC Driver]ResultSet can not re-read row data for column 1.As far as I can tell it's because Jboss puts the columns in the select statement in some order. Could someone point me to the sections of code that create the select statement and read the resultset?Thanks.

    Sounds like you're using the Microsoft JDBC driver for SQL Server 2000 which requires you to load an extended stored procedure before using XA Datasources.From the READ.ME"If you want to use JDBC distributed transactions through JTA, you mustinstall JDBC XA Procedures. See "SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC," inthe SQL SERVER 2000 DRIVER FOR JDBC USER'S GUIDE AND REFERENCE for details."Also sugest you take a look at microsofts site and grab SP2 of the driver and read the docs on XAConnection.recover().Cheers, Eric

    Simplest solution - RUN SQL Trace(Detailed one) from either SQL Profiler or from DSN and pick the EXEC stmt from the TRACE.Run it on SQL Studio/the GUI you use for connecting to the database and am sure you will get your solution

    To know how to set DSN trace, just search one of my earlier posts in this forum on JDBC..

    I'm trying to migrate to the 2005 JDBC driver against  SQL Server 2000, but I'm getting the following exception: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The statement did not return a result set. This is similar problem to a past thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=413019SiteID=1The difference is that my stored procedure uses cursors.  This same stored procedure works fine with the 2000 JDBC driver.Does anybody have any ideas how to resolve this problem?

    DB:2.47:Sqlserverexception: The Statement Did Not Return A Result Set When Sp Uses Cursors k7

    Hi Experts,

    My original environment is SQL server 2005 WebSphere v6.0(JDBC 3.0). When I run the program as below and it works well.

    ===========================

    ResultSet rs=stmt.executeQuery(sql);
    rs.next();

    ===========================

    However, when I upgrade the environment to SQL server 2005 WebSphere v8.5(JDBC 4.0), I get the error message: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The statement did not return a result set. From this forum's information, it seems that I have
    multiple resultsets, so I try to change the program as follows and it works fine.

    =====================

    stmt.execute(sql);
    stmt.getMoreResults();
    stmt.getMoreResults();
    ResultSet rs=stmt.getResultSet();
    rs.next();

    =====================

    My questions is that is there any approach that I can keep my program unchanged and works well with JDBC 4.0 driver(WAS v8.5) or any combination like SQL svr 2000 WAS v8.5, etc.

    Please give me any pointer and your recommendation is valuable to me, thank you.

    It might be your security settings. SQL Server supports two types of authentification schemes: 'Windows' and 'SQL Server'

    I think that by default SQL Server only accepts 'Windows' authentification schemes - i.e. you must provide a valid Windows username and password. But you are using jdbc which (I believe) sends a standard 'SQL Server' user name and password. You need to set the server to accept this form of authentification

    Try right-clicking on your database in Enterprise and bringing up the properties of your database. Choose the Security tab and then set the authentification option to 'SQL Server and Windows' rather than 'Windows only'

    Also in the Security folder of the management tree find the username your using and make sure it's properties are set to use a SQL Server not Windows account.

    I hope this solves your problem.

    TopLink tries to translate most functions into each database platform, however support for certain functions can vary on different databases making this difficult (looks like the conversion for this function on SQL Server was missed). Not all functions that TopLink supports in expressions are supported on every database platform.

    You can define a platform specific function in an expression through getFunction, i.e.
    builder.get("salary").getFunction("COVERT", builder.fromLiteral("NUMBER", builder))

    You can also map an existing function to your database platform through amending your login,

    Example:
    ExpressionOperator operator = new ExpressionOperator();
    Vector v = new Vector();
    v.addElement("CONVERT(NUMBER,");
    v.addElement(")");
    operator.printsAs(v);
    operator.bePrefix();
    operator.setSelector(ExpressionOperator.ToNumber);
    operator.setNodeClass(FunctionExpression.class);

    login.getPlatform().addOperator(operator);

    I have a table which has "text" type field.when query this table by KODO
    JDO,if there is only 1 record,it's fine.
    But if there is more than 1 record,I encounter the following exception,my
    database is MS SQLServer2000,and I use
    the JDBC driver provided by Microsoft:

    Please upgrade your version to the latest version (2.5.2). The version you have
    is very old and non-maintained (as it was a release candidate).

    If this problem continues, let us know.

    There's a JDBC driver for MSSQL, InfoZoom's jadoZoom that works quite well. http://www.inzoom.com/IE/javaado.html

    However, it's commercial, the licence fee is about US$140. You can try it for a 30 day evaluation period.

    Another solution can be to use a JDBC-ODBC bridge and acces MSSQL through ODBC, but that driver is just too faulty.

    Nagendra,
    SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC is a very old unsupported version of driver. Can you try with the new version from

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=19847. You will need at least JDK 5.0for this.

    DB:2.45:Idoc To Jdbc Receiver Adapter: Sqlserverexception After Insert fc

    Hello,

    we are using SAP XI 3.0 and I have to set up an asynchronous IDOC to JDBC scenario.

    Informations coming via IDOC have to be inserted into an MS SQL database. The ID for each dataset will be set automatically when inserting, so there is no update. I have used the following structure:

    When sending an IDOC, the data will be inserted into the database, but in the Runtime Workbench the following Exception occurs:

    ' SQLServerException. A result set was generated for update. '

    It seems to me, that the result information of the database can't be handled in the JDBC adapter.

    Anybody an idea if this is a issue on the XI or maybe of the database itself?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi!
    I have a small problem connecting to a MS SQL Server.
    If I try to connect to the sql server \\SQLSERVER i write :
    Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");
    forbindelse = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://SQLSERVER:1433","user","pass");
    and this works fine,
    but when I'm trying to connect to the SQL-server with the URL
    \\TEST\SQLSERVER :
    forbindelse = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://TEST/SQLSERVER:1433","user","pass");
    I get the problem :

    Both servers are running at the same time, and I have accounts at both of them...

    Building a small application where I need to MS-SQLServer. Have a few problems.
    First, the JVM needs to locate the MS SQLServer JDBC driver.
    Where and how should I make the setttings (XP operating system).
    Secondly, I should specify the location of the db in the filesystem with ; System.setProperty("....","....");
    Would ; System.setProperty("SQLServer","C:/Program/Microsoft SQL Server") be correct?
    Greatful for a quick and correct answer.

    DB:2.45:Error While Retrieving Users From Db Using Field Loop 88

    Hi,
    Im working on IDM 6.0 in Sun Appserver 8.1, with waveset on SQL Server2000.
    I have a rule that list all the users from a table in SQL Server2000.
    Ive used this rule in a form to get list of all users. This rule works fine in BPE and the drivers are properly placed

    When I view the Form I get the following error.

    XPRESS exception == com.waveset.util.WavesetException: Can't call method queryList on class com.waveset.util.JdbcUtil == com.waveset.util.WavesetException: == java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]Could not find server 'com' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers.

    DB:2.45:Error While Retrieving Users From Db Using Field Loop 88

    The querylist method returns just the first column of all rows found

    This is what the javadoc says.

    I am trying to figure out just what the map of arguments should be though.

    Could you post your rule so we can see what argument map works (at least for MSSQL)

    regards GF

    No, the MSDE instance I'm trying to connect to from my J2 application is configured as "Integrated Windows Authentication" ONLY (i.e not "mixed mode" and deliberately so) hence my search for a JDBC driver that supports o/s-based authentication.
    I appear to have found one now however at it appears that DataDirect's JDBC driver supports NTLM and Kerberos authenicaiton on Windows (although I haven't got it working yet).
    Thanks for your reply tho'

    Tele-

    This is just a warning that is issued when we clean up the ResultSet.
    The MS driver seems to be prematurly closing them for some reason.

    Is this causeing an error for you? Otherwise, you can just ignore the
    warning. You can set the logging level for JDBC to be "ERROR" in order
    to stop the error message from being logged.

    Marc-

    Are you using the lastest version of MS's JDBC driver? I seem to recall
    this problem with the beta version of the driver.

    If that doesn't help, can you send us the complete stack trace?

    In article b1u1f8$8r4$1@solarmetric.netmar.com, Marc Amick wrote:
    With the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 JDBC Driver I keep getting thefollowing
    exception from kodo:

    java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for
    JDBC][SQLServer]sp_
    cursorclose: The cursor identifier value provided (abcdef0) is notvalid.
    atcom.microsoft.jdbc.base.BaseExceptions.createException(Unknown
    Source)

    in kodo.properties i have
    javax.jdo.option.ConnectionURL
    set to
    jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://BALT-DB1:1433;DatabaseName=db_mamick;SelectMethod
    =cursor
    I am using kodo 2.4.1

    Has anyone seen this?

    Thanks
