I am so sick of this. We are not talking about technology that doesn't currently exist. TiVO has been doing it for years. If the show is late coming off the networks...fine... adjust the darn recording time. Last night...yet again... missed the last 20 minutes of two different shows. It's making the DVR useless. I realize you don't care about CBS or ABC...but seriously they have to be angry. That's lost revenue to them in commercials, etc. Don't worry though... I let them know how unhappy I am.

This has started to happen to me in the last few weeks. Every episode of every series recording -- even those with complete episode descriptions that do not say "new" -- has been saved. This is seriously irritating.

Over the past couple of years, I have selected shows that I like for recording. That memory has proven reliable, even when the shows are off for a while and then come back later. I do not have a written list of what is stored for future recording.

If I install a new X1 box, are all my selections for the future lost? (I am not referring to show already recorded.)

DB:3.05:Protect A Series Only Online?? How Dumb Is This??!! How About Some Basic Sense??? fk

    Hi...

Some of you might remember my older post "Get Heard - Where are these features on Uverse?? from back in November. I am sooooooo happy to say (**sarcastic** of course) that out of the DOZENS of comments from me and many others, basically NOTHING has been done to update any of what has been missing from the service. Again, these were NOT pie-in-the-sky WISHES for the future; these were ALLLLLLL options that have been found with DVR services for YEARS AND YEARS. And to NOT include them in ATT's super-high-tech-high-quality-better-than-the rest service is absurd.

Actually just a wee bit less absurd than the fact that there really has not been ANY MEANINGFUL UPDATES to the service since AT LEAST (my post in) November. There has been an App here or there or the implementation of widespread caller ID information.

    WHOOPEE.

How about some BASIC SENSE into the BASIC FUNCTIONING of the DVR?? Again, see the link to my post above...I do NOT need to rehash the dozens of basic, basic simple suggestions.

However, I have a NEW ONE that I have discovered....LOVE THIS!!!

If you set up the recording of a SERIES through your television (and correct me if I am wrong) it is IMPOSSIBLE...a customer is UNABLE to choose a setting to protect ("until I erase") the WHOLE SERIES AND ALL FUTURE RECORDINGS. That option, as far as I can see, is NOT AVAILABLE on the TV when using the TV to set up the series recording.

    Now get this...

if you sign in online to manage your DVR and set up the recording of a SERIES, then you CAN choose to protect the ENTIRE SERIES along with your confirmation of the series recording.

in other words, you can ONLY protect the series by setting up the recording ONLINE!!

HOW DUMB IS THAT?? How ANNOYING?? If I am sitting in bed and want to set up a series recording and protect it from being erased I have to get OUT of bed, turn ON the computer and SIGN IN ONLINE to do this??

This is EXACCCCCTLY what I am talking about. Simple, easy and DUMB thing that are left ouf of the service. How many people work on the features of this Uverse product?? A few?? Dozens? MANY dozens?? NO ONE thinks to protect a Series FROM THE TV?? No, no, no...lets FORCE a person to go ONLINE to protect a series??!!

Let's allow a user to scroll the list of recorded items but have it STOP at the "Z" bottom of the list instead of LOOPING back to "A" at the top....

Let's allow a customer to erase ONLY ONE RECORDING AT A TIME on the TV unless they sign in to manage their DVR online....

Let's search ONLY or name of a show or actor. Let's make it IMPOSSIBLE to search for the words in the DESCRIPTION of the TV show....

Whoops...I APOLOGIZE...i started rewriting the list of features NOT on UVerse that ARE on other services for YEARS from my November post...

Thought I'd see if this board had any advice for me before I contact Verizon tech support, since it was so helpful last time. I just purhased a MyBook DVR Extender (1TB). Worked fine while I was on vacation. Then I came back and I'm not sure if it was the 4/6 download or what, but now it has issues. Using the WD-supplied esata cable and everything. I've already tried unplugging and rebooting and redetecting the HD. Wondering if I need to take it to the next step and try reformatting the HD with my laptop? An example of my problem: I start recording a movie at 5:24pm. I start a second recording at 5:30pm which starts fine. The movie continues on fine. I schedule another recording to start at 6pm (as the movie continues but the second recording finishes). At 5:55 the movie splits into two two parts. Both the 5:30 and 6pm recording are perfectly complete though. So it's like the ongoing-recording gets interrupted by the start of a new recording and then has to restart. Any ideas for things to try before I go to the step of talking to Verizon tech support?

DB:3.00:External Dvr "Hiccups" When Starting A Recording While Recording mk

I did indeed Tonya. I reinitialized the External HD (attached it to my computer and reformatted it), and then plugged it back into my STB. It was then detected as a "new HD" (the STB warned me that it would have to be formatted and everything), and once that was done and it was connected, the problem seems to have gone away. I conducted at least 3 tests last night, and have not had any problems with it. It seems that reinitializing the HD and forcing the STB to reformat it was the solution. Very happy now.

Thank you for working with us. Very glad to hear the hard drive is working properly now.

DB:2.97:New Dvr Setup Is Horrendous fk

Does anyone like the new DVR layout? It's terrible. Not only is it very restrictive and not functional, it's hit or miss on working correctly. Here are a few reasons it is terrible...

I always like to set the recordings for my shows to start one minute early and I always extend them about three minutes. Impossible now. The only options it gives me to extend recordings is something completely pointless like five or ten minutes. What was so bad about being able to customize the recording exactly the way I want it? Why did they change this?Often times in the past I would be watching something while recording it. However, once it ended I was able to stop and save the recording. Now that's impossible. At least to my knowledge. I was recording the end of a game the other day and when the game was over I tried to stop and save it, but the only thing I could modify was the save setting. Why can't I just stop and save or stop and erase? What exactly was the point for removing this feature? Finally, (and this is one of my biggest gripes) why can't I extend the recording for as long as I want? For example, often times on the old system if I wanted to record two shows that aired consecutively, I would just set the recording for the first show and extend it an hour or half hour and record both shows on one recording. I did this because many times if you recorded each one separately, it always cut out part of the second one. However now this is not possible.
Bottom line is I think Comcast really screwed up this time. Who thought this was a good idea? I feel like my bill should be cheaper now because this DVR is a downgrade from the old one. I just want my old DVR back. In fact, I have yet to talk to a single person who likes the new DVR.

DB:2.97:New Dvr Setup Is Horrendous fk

Nothing has changed here in colorado. Sorry if your market was different.

1.I can still set recordings by the minute. I can go minute by minute for 15 min early and minute by minute late. At 15 min it goes by 15, then by half hour increments.

Are you looking in correct place " View all settings"

    2. you have to be at the end of the show for this to pop up, if I understand you correctly, the total end where it pretty much turns off on its own.

If you are watching a show but not "recording it" then hit pause not stop. On the buffer bar the current show is green, the older show or one you were probably watching is white. I wouldnt hit stop. you need to rewind back into the white part and it will save that show up to the 2 hr buffer. If show was 3 hours you wont get the first hour. if you hit record on the current show/green part. then it will record the new show.

Again not sure if I understand you totally but this is how its always been for me here in colorado.

    3. This is related to one. Are you looking in the setup settings correctly? "View all settings" I can go up to 2 hours late. Half hour increments.

I was wondering what is wrong with Uverse DVR. I use DVR recording setting any day any time once a day for shows under the TFC Channel, and at times it omits to record the series requested. I also notice that the titles of the show are not indexed properly, so when you look up the show it is actually featuring a different program. Who is responsible in updating the show schedules? TFC does indicate in their station broadcast scheduled program changes and usually shows a 5 day lead time before they implement it, but Uverse schedules as posted on the Guide Search is either incorrect, or using an old title of an already finished program series. It seems we are not getting the quality service we are hoping to get.

Garbage on / Garbage Out but the U-Verse system should be smart enough to realize that a show that airs on 2/14/10 is actually a newer show than the one listed as "originally aired" 2/17.

I agree with you on that one. But seeing that they are working on bigger updates and upgrades that might incorporate that feature, I will just check the program info on the recordings that aren't scheduled. It is a drag to have to do that but it beats missing the recording altogether.

    Comcast Todd...

We had some trouble with our old DVR box and Comcast sent us a brand new RNG200N. Activation required a phone call to Comcast as I was not able to activate on-line. Wefollowed the instructions on how to record a series program to the letter. But, when we get to the end of the process and click to confirm the recording, the unit freezes up and reboots. After the five minutes of downloading, the unit remains off. We can turn it back onand watch TV.

So, Comcast sent out a tech, he checked signal strength throughout our cable distribution splits etc and found all to be good. He suspected the box, but, did not have one available. We ordered and received a second brand new RNG200N. Hooked it up, activated it through Comcast and, it does the same exact thing!

Now, my daughter has a RNG200 (no "N") in her room, so, we put the RGN200N in place of her unit using the same power cord, HDMI, and cable line. The RNG200N does the same thing - freezes up when you try to record a series. Single recordings work well...

Can't get a cable guy till next Tuesday - but, after talking to Comcast Tech support multiple times and a cable guy on at least one occasion, I'm not sure what they willdo...

I'm thinking that the RNG200N has some manufacturing issues...!

Here's a thought... When we got my daughter'sbox, there were some issues getting it activated. So, they sent out a cable guy.He made a phone call to tech support and told them to "reverse the poles". Her unit now works great. Do you think that might have any thing to do with the problem we are havingwith the RNG200N

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Tom

I do not know if your problem resolved itself but would be curious if you no longer have problems with the HD DVR. What did you finally do, etc.. My location is a Southwest Minneapolis suburb. I have had the Cisco RNG200N, Explorer 8300 HD by Scientific Atlanta. The problem you have happens to me.. the response of controls stalls, reboots while in the middle of VOD or DVR, trying to access VOD there is a delay but at times it simply shuts down and starts up again, strange reboots happening between 10:00PM to 5:00AM the next day. I will altogether lose the DVR for 30 - 60 - 90 minutes sometimes half a day. The Comcast wires from pole to house are fine and my home wiring is fine. I live in a SW Minneapolis Suburb and TimeWarner was the provider. They introduced DVR, OnDemand, etc.. before Comcast did in St. Paul and its suburbs. My first DVR worked like a champ. Video On Demand was done on seperate channels HBO had one, Cinemax had one, etc.. and VOD worked very well. So possibly it could be the boxes software/firmware that has not yet caught up with the technology? I have had the problem since 2006 and no one at Comcast knows anything about this issue. It is great to read someone else is experiening similar problems.. I do not feel crazy when calling the repairs department about these issues.. I do not think enough people are reporting this type of problem so it goes unresolved until a certain number of complaints comes in and it has to be resolved or something.

Just to let some of you know that responded to my posts I was able to get the DVD player work with the component cables. Now this has been a recurring issue since getting comcast on 2/7/15....I have tried to find the answers first but no luck and really do not want to call the technician unless I have to. Our cable box has a couple of issues: the first one is the sound...just about every day all of sudden the sound becomes distorted but when you shut the cable off and turn it back on it is fine. I have spoken with a comcast rep on chat and provided me a list of steps which I did and it is still happening. It is not the tv nor is it just when we watch a show it happens on the dvr recordings too. The second issue is the dvr recordings. The dvr will not let us turn it off if there is a scheduled recording that is going to happen. Also, we got a strange pop up window which I cannot remember what it was now but it was when we were recording two shows and it would not let us go to another station..It said we had to choose which show we wanted to record or cancel the recording. If I remember exactly what it said I will repost. These issues are astounding and crazy. We have a DVR where we are suppose to be able to record more than one show and watch something else live. I am sorry I have never had such problems with a DVR before. Any suggestions? The box has been reset already. All I know is I am getting tired of my shows not recording for some stupid reason.

Do they really know how much time it took to set up series recordings and prioritize them! Plus I've been saving shows so I can watch entire seasons of a series all at once. This is a no win situation for the customer.

I live in Chicago area and I have had a multitude of issues for months. I also experienced the most recent Nationwide Outage on October 4th to 5th. Since the Nationwide outage you may have also noticed you now can no longer record any NEW programming. The DVR did record a couple previously shows set up before the outage but NOW NOTHING records.

Prior to the national outage the X1 would only record about 80 to 90% of scheduled shows depending on the week. It would constantly refuse to record my #1 overall rated show, Breaking Bad, as set in the Priority Manager section of the DVR. Yet it would record the 3rd and 4th prioritized shows in the same time slot. The DVR would also not display shows being recorded sometimes for as long as 36 hours after the recording finished. The issue of not being able to view a show after recording had started but not shown in SAVED recordings was very common. You don't know if it's actually recording. And I record it vs. watch live so I can streamline viewing and skip the commercials. Who wants to watch a sporting event AFTER it had finished recording or almost 2 days after the fact? The DVR will start recording a show 2 to 4 minutes late on a regular basis and sometimes as much as 40 to 50 minutes late. This is only an example of some of the X1 DVR issues. I reboot my DVR almost every day vs. calling Comcast and speaking to CSR's who don't have a clue about your problem. The problems I have experienced are the same as those in previous markets where X1 was rolled out such as Atlanta, GA and Philadelphia, PA.

Comcast has sold us all a very inferior product. None of my friends with the multi-room DVR like ATT or Direct TV have these issues, only Comcast. If I had read the Comcast forums with other customers confirming same the problems as mine I never would have jumped on board. How can Comcast be talking about rolling out X2 when they have so many issues with the X1.

And until today's call with Ms Ward they have treated me like I was the only one having X1 issues. I have documented every problem possible trying to help them resolve my issues only to be finally be told the issue is X1, not me, and no idea when or if the issues will be resolved. 5 or 6 service calls for about 20 hours and probably another 20 just itemizing daily issues and sending them weekly e-mails displaying the issues. Do not pass go and just replace your DVR with the old Legacy series and lose all your recorded programming prior to the national outage and set up and prioritization of series recordings. It's just your time lost not Comcast so what's the problem!

Wow, so far not impressed with cloud technology.

Installed at noon on 12/28 , I sat down around 2pm to try to setup all my series recordings. Got through 1 using the remote number pad, but as I'm over 30 had enough of that. I thought I would try and see how well the web interface would work to schedule my recordings ... that was a mistake.

I set up a series recording forNCIS: LA and NCIS , and about 4-5 other programs. I then looked at "scheduled recordings" and realized the web interface hadn't let you specify "this channel only", and I had about 50 episodes scheduled due to new years eve marathons.

So I though, I'll delete those recordings from the web. Then go back to TV/DVR and set up recordings there.

Now, what is on the Web "DVR" doesn't match the TV , and neither will schedule the right shows

    I tried to schedule

NCIS LA: series recording , "This channel only"

Sleepy Hallow , series recording, "This Channel only"

Gotham series recording "This channel only"

(alot of detail, but all 3 shows I know have new episodes on Mon, Jan 5)

Now for "scheduled programs" , I still see some 20 NCIS LA over next 3 days( on wrong channels, even though I deleted ) , 1 episode of "NCIS LA" on the right channel, and neither "Sleepy Hollow" nor "Gotham."

I called tech support , and have talked to 4 people

    1) First guy sent 2-3 different resets, then said would send "strongest reset signal we have". That managed to get the one new episode of NCIS LA to show up (originally only the repeats on Channel USA were showing) ... I complained that Gotham, Sleepy Hollow and all the marathon episdoes were still showing ... I got hung up on.

    2) Called again. Guy said we could try strongest reset he had ... didn't do anything. He said he couldn't do anything about the web interface showing different info (what was to be recorded) then what the set top box was showing. Said he had to transfer me to "Wireless" .... really?????

    3) Get transferred to Wireless, they almost literally said "Why are you talking to us? We can't do anything about that, let me transfer you back to X1

    4) This lady said she would sent "the strongest signal we have to your box" , but as an added bonus she threw in that I had to unplug my box from the wall for 30-45 mins. I pointed out that the web interface still showed all the wrong programs ( marathon shows there, sleep hollow and gotham not there) ... she said the reset would clear the web interface in 15-20 mins.

She assured me, literally said "rest assured everything will be fixed in 30 mins"

Would anyone care to place a wager with me?

DB:2.91:New X1 Dvr Installed Sunday , Can't Set Any Future Recordings dj

To any Comcast Representatives who read this, the issue still exists as of this morning.

This morning I scheduled 3 series recording by using the guide on the TV/DVR, and was sure to select so that the specific channel was selected.

    1) I set 3 series recording while view the Guide for Mon, Jan 5

    Sleepy Hollow

    Gotham

    NCIS: LA

Looked at "Scheduled Recordings" , neither of those 3 shows for Jan 5 appear. There are still 4 shows for "NCIS: LA" marathon on Tues, Jan 6 showing. Those are left overs from first day trying to set on the web interface, and I can't make them go off the listing.

    2)On the web interface,

-- the correct 3 shows are listed under "Series Priority Manager"

-- Under "Scheduled Recordings" , one show is listed : a new episode for "NCIS: LA" for Mon Jan 5.

    So my problem is

    A) My DVR does not seem to recognize or show that I have any scheduled recordings.

The information on the web interface is different then what is on the DVR

On my first or second phone call, I was using NCIS: LA extensively as an example (and because 20+ shows for marathon showed up, which precipitated all of this) ... I don't know if that agent did something specifically for that program, flagged or unflagged it in the database.

But I think I've screwed up 4-5 programs, and I want to make sure they are all flagged/unflagged correctly.

That is why I'd like a "complete reset" or "erase" of any/all settings in the database made on the DVR.

To recap: when first setting up , I had a list of 20+ shows I wanted to set into the DVR. I used the web interface to schedule them thinking it would be more conveinent. I got throught about 4-5 before realizing my error (all marathon, repeat shows being recorded) , so then deleted/cancled the shows I had inputted. I don't remember exactly which 4-5 shows I added/deleted, but my fear is that they will all now be ghost/phantom entries in my DVR and I'll never be able to record them. I THINK these were the ones, but not sure

DB:2.91:Local Channels Shift To Other Channels xs

I tried to search to find this but couldn't. I have my DVR since about February, and occasionally, it forgets what the local channels are. In other words, the local channels suddenly become other channels. So if you tune into the local NBC channel (3), you get MSNBC instead. Another channel becomes the Directv channel, etc. There doesn't seem to be a unified reason for this. Sometimes, it happens if the power flickers and the DVR gets reset. Sometimes, after you watch a recorded program and you delete it at the end, the locals change. Sometimes you just change channels to rapidly or exit a recording by entering a local channel. I've had only one or two channels change. I've even had the DVR record a local channel to find that it only recorded the channel the local has changed to, a very annoying result. The only resolution is to reset the box, either using the reset screen or the red button. It doesn't always work and sometimes needs to be reset a number of times before it finally self corrects, which is hardly satisfactory, especially when you can never really be confident that a local channel recording will record the local channel instead of the changed channel. The update that everyone seems to be talking about has occurred. It has not fixed the problem. Any suggestions?

My external drive and DVR are each about 70% full, so should have plenty of room. When a scheduled show records, it sometimes records over a saved show. For example, show A was previously recorded and saved. When show B starts recording, you can look at what is recording and it looks like 2 shows are recording, A and B. When finished, the titles for A and B will be listed separately under recorded shows, but the description and recording for A is now the same as B (B recorded over it). When I delete B, A deletes also. Anyone had this problem?

    Hi,

I don't know what you are talking about. Instances which are sharing information? Are you talking about static data or what?

DB:2.90:Re: Question About Extended Instances Sharing The Same One Super Instance. k3

I come up with the design that there is a super
class(having these common attributes), and two
extended class A and class B. And my question is how
can I reference instances of class A and B to the
same super class instance so that when class A update
its super class attributes, class B is also updated
and vice versal. First you neeed to get straight the difference between class variables (static) and instance variables (non-static). If you're talking class variables, then you don't need to do anything special. There's one copy shared by the parent class and all child classes. If you're talking instance variables, then each and every instance of the parent class and of the child classes has its own copy.

Ijust installed the Whole Home DVR and three HD25 receivers. I added these units to my original HD receiver. About once a day, each of the HD25 units must be reset. They lose connection to the DVR's. They show a playlist that is listed in reverse order (oldest on top) and if a program was recording when it lost communication with the main whole home DVR it shows that this program is still recording, although, it may be hours after the show ended. If a show is recorded and displayed in the Play List that has multiple episodes, you cannot expand the show to see all of the episodes. Sometimes they just stop playing a recorded show all together.

I had a service tech to the house for two hours, he could not help. He said that this was discussed at an internal tech meeting, but he could not remember what the resolution was. He called three people who could not help.

Today I called again, and was only told the case would be expidited.

My guess, is there they have a serious networking issued. The HD 25 communicates to the DVR over the cable. Once it stops talking, the HD has to be reset to cause them to communicate again.

Anyone else out there seeing this??????????????????????

Wow, *another* type of way for the X1 to fail. Now the recording appears to have been interrupted, but with no visible sign of it. In this case, I believe the recordings were in progress when I started playback. During playback (no where near the end), the playback just stops and the DVR goes to the screen showing the recording, with the watch, delete, etc. options. The playback bar indicates there's far more left to watch but you cannot access it. This happened Friday night, and happened again this morning. Though another recording done in between the two affected programs was intact somehow. The 2nd time, I rebooted the box. (Rebooted with the recording of the 2nd interrupted program theoretically still in progress--the red light was on, but it's *always* on; the reboot occurred during the original recording window.) When the box came up, the 2nd interrupted recording appeared in *seven* different parts, and with them out of order! This DVR is incredibly buggy. Does Xfinity have any comments? What are we supposed to do about it? I post the bugs on this forum so someone has a chance to know about them. But is anything being done? This DVR has continually failed to do what a DVR should do--consistently record programs.

DB:2.90:Recording Stops In Middle Of Schedule Recording 89

I am having this same problem... it's maddening... and this is a new one with the latest software release. Basically the last 10 minutes of many programs are cut off.... I've had a relatively stable installation for 3-4 months so it's disheartening that things are actually getting worse with the software instead of better.

Exactly...the class has suffered due to the lack of
instruction and clarity with the projects.
    Cheap words.

Also with your code, you are already using two
classes for one part of the project and it requires
one class to contain nothing but the user menu so the
    code above would not work.
TermProjectXXX in the code above contains nothing but the user menu. Nevertheless, you've been given a very good example of an implementation that exactly fulfills the requirements you posted. If you need to adapt them to the specifics of your project, go ahead and do so.

As a new Uverse customer, I have been greatly disappointed in the capability of the Uverse DVR equipment.

    Specifically:

    1. ATT advertises that the Uverse DVR will record 4 programs at once. They fail to mention that this applies only to standard def programs and that at unit will record only 3 programs at the same time in HD.

    2. If you are watching a program while two other programs are recording and a third program needs to begin recording, the DVR will interrupt the program you are watching and force you to stop one of the recordings already in progress or switch what you are watching to one of the programs being recorded. So you can record and/or watch only three HD programs at a time. (Comcast for example permits 5)

    3. When I originally placed my order for Uverse, I was told I could get 2 DVRs if I wanted them. The installer told me that the Uverse system will not support two DVRs in one home.

Uverse DVR capability and capacity is not competitive with Direct TV or Comcast DVR capability. I am disappointed about this and hope these DVR capability issues will be addressed soon by ATT ????

Then you lost all the recordings after the disaster recovery if that's what you did, there is no factory reset on the DVR.

Could have done a Non-Destructive disaster recovery and saved all the recordings.

Are you talking about properties as in VB/C# properties I.e the language feature, or what are you talking about?

I hope we don't get properties in Java.

    DB:2.84:Re: Properties In Java 91

I never heard of that feature being planned, I am not shure though. The concept of JavaBeans builds heavily on the getters and setters. That will not be changed. It would be more confusing, if you could decide to code getters as java getters or as properties

I don't know if its the same in C#, but I used properties in VB6 and it is possible there to write code within the property body.
As you mention, people are not necessarily disciplined and use properties not only for getting/setting of attributes but also for calculations and whatever.
Thus I found the concept of properties rather annoying.

Personally I use the "generate getter/setter" button of my IDE which solves the probelm in my code ...

When it records or you watch tv on the 2nd tuner (ex. if you are recording something on the other tuner) it is broken up and distorted (like right before it goes out when it is storming). When recording MOST of the time is unwatchable if it records on the 2nd tuner. Does this if is storming or not. It has been doing this for about 2 months now. I have doubled checked all my cables they seem to be fine, what next? We do not have trouble on any of our standard receivers. Thanks in advance, Stacy

I have a request, could the developers find a way to add clipping to Dvr recordings? I'm finding that if I am recording show that are running like from 8:00 to 9.01 And I have four recordings it is interfering. I remember the old Dvr would clip those for me and I really liked that option. I love the x1 box and it keeps getting better but clipping would be great feature to have again. Also does anyone know when we will have the cloud in bloomington ill? I have the tv app and it say congratulations you have the cloud and call comcast. I did that and was transferred to many people and half didn't know what I was talking about not even the x1 techs. I have triple play premium xf so I think I qualify for free?

    DB:2.84:X1 Dvr Request m1

I agree totally that clipping is needed. It gest frustrating to go try to watch a show that you thought would be there and find it wasn't because things prior ran over.

Also frustrating it to go away for a week and come back to find 15 episoides of CSI and 10 episodes of NCIS that were on TBS or some such channel. Almost makes a series recordings useless.

So I know there are a couple threads floating around talking about Stereo Mix and recording What You Hear issues that have been going on now for quite a while. I think my issue is slightly different. My company has recently switched from CS5 (using Soundbooth) to CC (which uses Audition). When using Soundbooth I had no problem setting up, recording and playing audio captured through Stereo mix. For some reason in Audition, this seems to be impossible. No hardware changes were made.

    Realtek Audio Driver: 6.0.1.6602

    Any advice?

DB:2.84:Stereo Mix And Audition Cc mk

My guess is that you're somehow routing your output from Audition into the same stereo mix so it's going "round and round".

You didn't mention what you're using as a sound card but I'd look in any control pan that it has to see if you can fade down Audition without fading down the feed you want to record.

A second thought...if you're working in the multitrack view, do you have the monitoring switch enabled (it's the button marked "I" in the box to the left of each track. If so, that would be feeding the sound you're recording back out again and creating a loop like I mentioned above.

I do not currently have an HD DVR receiver but am interested in getting one. However, I have some questions about how it works. I called customer support but they barely knew their own name, and knew even less about receivers. The website gives general information about an HD DVR receiver, but does not give a model number to identify which receiver they are talking about, or what model is available to order. So my questions would be for the HR20 model and up.1) Does the receiver support Picture in Picture (PIP) viewing? Can I watch one channel with a smaller window in the corner showing another channel? Or Picture Outside Picture (POP) viewing, or side by side viewing of 2 channels? Currently, my TV supports PIP, but I have to have 2 receivers to make this work. Since the HD DVR receivers claim to have 2 tuners, I wonder if they have this feature built in.2) Online documentation says the HD DVR receiver has 2 tuners (for recording), and can receive SD (Standard Definition) and HD (High Definition) channels. Can both tuners receive both SD and HD channels? Or does one receive SD and one receive HD. This is important if I would want to record 2 HD channels at the same time, or 2 SD channels.3) If I get 2 HD DVR receivers, can they "share" recorded shows? In other words, if I record a show on 1 HD DVR, can I watch it on the other? There is no mention of this in the online documentation, however it does say that recorded shows can be viewed on a PC if the HD DVR receiver is connected to the network via an internet connection. So I would think it would be pretty easy to share between 2 HD DVR receivers connected to the same network. Thanks for any help you can give!

YESCan you watch live tv, or recorded content, on the DVR and also view recorded content at the same time on TWO other TVs with just a STB? YES the norm is upto TWO HD's or 3 SD simultaneousWhat is the recording capacity of the FiOS HD DVR? Depends on Model. They have two models that are still in circulation that are 160 GB hard drives and that gives an "estimated" recording time of 85 hours SD recording and 20 hours HD recording, and they have two newer DVR's that are in circulation that are 500 GB hard drives and they are "estimated" recording times of 300 hours SD and 71 hours HD. Most models also include ESATAports and you can add upto a 1 or 2 TB hard drive external (has to be ESATA) to increase storage capacity. 1 TB gives an estimated 620 hours SD and 148 hours HD recording time, so double that for 2 TB

I doubt this is very much of an issue. With the highly serialized nature of recording video and the all or nothing removal of those programs in large blocks, it is unlikely the disk fragments to any great extent such as occurs on a regular computer with highly randomized read/write activities.

Caching is done at the Business Service and not at the Proxy service level. So business service will still receive 20 requests. Only difference will be that the backend service provider will not receive 20 but only 1. Rest 19 requests will go to cache from Business Service.
You can set an SLA Alert on business service for cache hit count to validate this.

I have been experiencing a highly frustrating problem with my DirecTV service (which was just installed this past month) . Any show that I set to start recording 'x' minutes early will record all the way through just fine. But, when I go to watch what I've recorded I can only watch the few minutes I've set to record early and maybe several more before it ends and prompts me to delete it! This happens when just playing or fast forwarding every single time with every show.

EXAMPLE: I was recording The Simpsons from the ongoing marathon. Because most of them are way out of sync with the start times it would record, I decided to add 5 minute cushioning to the start and end of each. Here is a video to show you what I'm talking about.

Is this only on FX? If so it looks lik3e yet another guide data glitch from FX (lots of these reported by the way). Set the shows to extend by 30 minutes and see if that solves the problem. I have every FX series link extended by 30 minutes and that solved it for me.

After two hours total of ATT support, rebooting, reinstalling firmware, we finally discovered the solution to the problem. I wanted to share it here so others don't have to deal with this.

If you order U-verse Total Home DVR, a technician will come out and install the modem, install the TV set-top box, check all the connections and leave. Once gone, I found that I could not pause live TV and while I could record shows, they don't actually record. I didn't think to check out that feature with the technician present.

After all of the support calls, it turns out that they determined that I don't have the recording DVR. I explained that "R" in DVR refers to "recording" but apparently ATT has a Total Home DVR that doesn't actually record.

As the ATT rep explained, perhaps I didn't specifically request the U-Verse DVR with recording capabilities. My bad. I didn't actually request specifically recording capabilities. My set-top box does have that capability, but it was not pushed out from the central server.

So, remember to ask specifically for the DVR that records. I don't think you have to specifically as for one that plays back programs it records, but ask just in case.

Oh, and if you are using U-verse, you have to make sure to ask the technician to "register" the install so that your Internet connection is not blocked five days after installation.

I am not sure exactly what else you need to specifically request.

What we are trying to find out is, what kind of attachment you are trying to open. All files will have a file extension. This file extension tells Windows what application to use to open it with...you must know what kind of file it is in order to get an answer to your question.

This file extension will be preceded by a "dot", for example, .jpg, .bmp, .zip, .gif, .pdf and, so forth. If we can find out WHAT the attachment IS you are trying to open, maybe we can figure this out.

Out of the blue my DVR decided to not record shows as scheduled, but rather on it's own terms. Some shows that are set to record never do. Some shows record the last minute only. Some that are set to only record new episodes will record everyone aired on that channel. The DVR fills up and then stops recording shows all together.

Thinking this was a simple problem I called technical support. They simply sent a signal to the box and told me to unplug the box to restart it.

After that failed I decided to head to my local Comcast location to get a new box. After waiting one hour, I was quickly given a new cable box without even talking about what the problem really was.

When I took the new cable box home it did not turn on. I had a technician come out to see what was wrong. He got the cable box working in no time. Knowing this technician from my initial install, we got to talking about the problem. His response was a bit shocking to me. He said that the problem I was having was really with Comcast operating software not being compatible with any DVR cable boxes provided in my region. After all this trouble, I would still have the same problem with my DVR.

Apparently he has seen this problem in many homes in my area. There is no solution and Comcast is not doing anything to fix it in the near future. The only way I can get my shows to record or not record is to set or cancel each episode individually. While that seems like a trivial problem, I find it appalling that I am paying for a service that I truly am not getting. Not only that but others are having the same problem and nothing is being done about it. No one is educated on the problem and there is no one you can talk to about fixing it.

I am still looking into alternative solutions but it seems like there are none. I am very close to switching my cable service. I do not want to go through the trouble, but it is better than not getting services you are paying for.

Hi...Hope you can help me out. I recently have been having problems with my DVR that are similar to one that was described here. I was losing recording space on my DVR so I did a disaster recovery and that seemed to do the trick as I once again had my whole hard drive to record to again. One problem raised it's ugly head this morning. On one of my STB's (I have 3 STB's as well as the DVR), I cannot access the recordings that I have recorded since the disaster recovery. I get there are no recorded programs available to watch message. WHen I check the recording space, I see there is about 6% of the space used (which would correspond to the 3 programs that I have on the DVR). I did try a reboot of this box (by holding down the on/off button) but that did not seem to help. ANy thought to what is happening? Is this something I might be able to fix or is this something I will have to call tech support to help me out?

From what I have seen in these posts, there is no way to 'switch' which tuner you are currently 'using' for the dvr and live tv....how frustrating...shouldn't both tuners have some kind of buffer?!?!?

I just got Directv a few days ago, with the whole home DVR.

VOD downloads are extremely slow - a one hour show has only downloaded 12% after 24 hours.

I am not recording any other programs, and have only recorded a couple live shows. My internet speeds are about 15 mbs.

Any ideas? I searched the forums, but my understanding is that the whole home DVR works differently. Thank you!

Hi All, Long time since i've posted but always good to get input from real pro's...even though i'm now doing some work for a company myself :) Situtation: I have a set of prepared statements that will get executed a varying amount of times dependant on the number of records prepared to be mailed out. I have a hashmap of company ids which i loop through. I suppose the main thing i'm trying to find out is, is it ok to change a database in a connection but still use the same prepared statements that have been precompiled? ie do i need to re-initialise the prepared statement for each time i change the database or will the prepared statement just use the database that the connection has been set too.... Pretty sure i know the answer but just keen to hear some responses. Thanks Wes

Apologies for the issue that you described above. In reviewing your account, there is definitely a signal issue that needs attention, primarily on the RNG 200N and one of the DCH 3416 DVRs. .

Pixelation and audio-video dropout issues are almost always related to local or individual signal or connection issues. The issue can occur on a single channel or multiple channels due to the frequency or frequency range that the channel is delivered on. Changes in temperatures can also aggravate the issue.

Check to be sure that all of your cable connections are snug.

Box swaps, box refreshes and multiple box refreshes may not resolve this issue if there is an underlying local signal issue.

Give us a call at 1-800-COMCAST and we can start the troubleshooting process and get this resolved. Insist on a technician visit so that the signal levels can be reviewed and adjusted if necessary. There is no charge if the issue is determined to be with our equipment or originating outside your home.

Recently I've been having problems with my DVR not recording episodes of tv shows that were set to record by Series Recording. When you go into Scheduled Recordings, it's shows the episodes as scheduled to record, but when the shows come on they aren't recorded. And when you go into DVR History, they're shown as "not recorded due to unknown error". What is that? How am I supposed to fix it if I don't know what the error was? Any help with this would be appreciated.

While that may work, it shouldn't happen. I think my problem with it is if there is a problem, I should have a reason and not this "unknown error" stuff. Thanks for the advice. I'll try it.

Will I be able to record two programs at the same time? If so, will my single LNB dish have to be changed to a dual LNB?

Does the DVR have a feature that will recall deleted programs for a period of time, or are the programs lost forever once you hit the delete button?

How many hours is the DVR capable of recording?

Does it have an input for an external antenna other than satellite like my present Hughes set-top box?

I presently have a series 2 Tivo box. Has anyone replaced a Tivo with the DirecTv DVR and been unsatisfied?

When either recording or viewing live programming on a HD DVR(like my HR20-700), how does one know which "tuner" is delivering the content???? On a two-tuner HD DVR I am "assuming" the following:

1)When I "turn on" my DVR and tune to a channel I am ALWAYS on Tuner#1.

2)When I "turn off" my DVR it is still actively recording the last live channel selected "buffer" 24/7(and ALWAYS on Tuner#1).

3)If a scheduled recording starts up(with my DVR "turned off" OR "turned on") it will ALWAYS start recording that content using Tuner#2.

4)If a "second" scheduled recording starts up "during" the recording of the program described in Step#3(with my DVR "turned off" OR I respond "OK to change channel to record" if the DVR is "turned on I am watching a live channel") the second recording will ALWAYS record that content using Tuner#1.

5)Scenario described in Step#4 is the ONLY time that content is recorded using Tuner#1.

OK....I know that this is a lot of assuming, but if the DVR's "choice of tuner to use" is more dynamic than the static scenarios I describe, is there ANY way to determine what Tuner# is being viewed/recorded??????? I would find this to be very useful information, especially if you are trying to determine the cause for "messed up" recordings in your Playlist. It would be "nice" if the Tuner# used to make a recording could be "displayed" in the Playlist selection entry or in the Info "Banner"(that could tell you for a recording or live channel). Any advice/additional knowledge regarding this???????

Once you unplug the DVR and it resets the problem of the red light staying on goes away.

We have been extrordinarily annoyed by a persistant bug with the DVR. Under certain conditions (we think it is when watching a recording while it and another recording are being made.) when rewinding a recording the playback will return to the very beginning of the recording instead of just tracking backwards at the requested rate.

I can't imagine what possible utility and unrequested complete reset of the recording might have so this is either a bug or the work of a deranged mind.

Calls to customer service just result in soft pings. After the 3rd or 4th time you get tird of telling customer service that you've already been down that road.

You would think that verizon Fios would be at least up to date on its hardware that is gives customers. Recently I was contacted by a competitor cable company. Anyone that lives on Long Island, NY will know who I am talking about (CV for short). They offered my a comparable package to what I have now with Fios, but at a approximately $35 savings a month. Since I have been with Fios and have been happy with their service I gave Customer Service a call to see if there was anything they would do since I am out of any contact or promotion to keep me as a customer. One of the things that I was inquiring about was updating my modem. Customer Service rep was horrible, had no idea what I was talking about, and I had to explain things about Fios products. Basically the modem I was asking about was listed here....

    https://teleproducts.verizon.com/fileshare/plm/brochure/ATGIGEBHR_brochure.pdf

Your Fios customer service rep told me that there was no such thing. After having me on hold for 10-15 minutes while she contacted tech support, she told me they only have one modem and had no idea about what I was talking about. I then had to read a url to her like a child pointing her too...

You customer service has no idea about the products you even offer. She then went on to say, "Oh, that's what you want then you have to buy it" Really Verizon?? You claim to be such a front leader in quality and service but when you customers who are using old and outdated equipment, you tell them to update to at least get up to todays standard it will cost me.

Just two of the major differences of the modem are

New Modem: 10/100/1000 ports, and Wireless B/G/N

Old Modem: 10/100 Ports, Wireless B/G

My current modems standards are OLD! Researching this modem (the new one) I have seen forums posts dating back at least 2 years stating it was released, so this is not something brand new for Fios.

Your competitor (C.V.) offers a modem that is at least up to to today's standards...and guess what, they give it too their customers now, not charge them. Also just so people are aware that live on Long Island, this competitor is also offering an updated DVR, capable of recording 4 shows at one time (2 of them being cloud based...server side recording, then streaming to you)

So Fios, once again I do like your service. I think you have quality, but your customer service is extremely poorly trained on your products. Have really no knowledge and quite frankly are rude. If you are happy telling customers who are inquiring about updating their products, "If you want to be at least up to date...you have to pay for it"

Do you value your current customers at all? To me it seems like you don't. I believe in loyalty, but I also believe in going with the best deal vs quality.

Why isn't the dvr recording my preset programs? None of the new programs are being recorded.

Had the same problem. Seems to have started as of the new year.

I did two things - I chatted online with one of their technicians and had him reset my box. What seemed to work better was similar to another response of deleting one of my existing series recordings and setting it up again, which started all the other series recording again as well.

    Hope this helps.

Could you please clarify your question. What interface are we talking about here? Are you talking about logical interface on the network.

DB:2.77:Question About When 2 Shows Are Recording f8

    Hi,

I'm a new customer considering DirecTV and am interested in the whole home service. I've found this forum very valuable to better understand what I'm getting into and I already see I'll likely need a second DVR to increase flexibility.

My question is about what each TV can do when two shows are recording. I've read here and on the main DirecTV site that you can watch two recorded shows while two new ones are recording on the DVR. What about live TV? Our house will have a total of 6 TVs with 2 DVRs. I guess my question is if in a worst case scenario both DVRs are maxed out and recording two shows each what can the TVs in those rooms and the other non-DVR rooms do? Are they bound to only watching recorded shows or can they continue to watch live TV - a different live TV show in each room?

I've not seen this exact question answered anywhere. And finally what effect does adding a second DVR to the setup have in increasing live TV "streams"?

    Thanks!

DB:2.77:Re: Dvr Series Recording Problems zd

I'm having this same problem, and even more bizarrely, it's recording things it's not supposed to sometimes. For example, with "Castle," I have it set to only record new episodes AND only record episodes that air on ABC. But the DVR hasn't been recording new episodes and has been recording repeats airing on TNT. What? About half of my shows are working fine, but for the other half I keep having to remember to go to each week's episode and record it manually - the series recording setting doesn't appear to be working. I think a tech told us this is a known issue nationwide (and I've seen other threads to that effect) but it certainly is annoying as heck - especially since some of the shows aren't on demand either!

Apologies for the issue that you noted above. In reviewing your account I can see that you have a Motorola DCX 3400 DVR listed. Also, can you provide some additional details on the specific channels (SD or HD) and programs that are not recording, how those DVR recordings are set up (series or individual) via the cable box or via a mobile device or from online? There should also be a DVR History list that might provide some additional clues. Using the Comcast silver remote control, press the My DVR button, select Manage My DVR from the On-screen menu Then select DVR History. If you see the show(s) that did not record listed, press OK-Select to see if there is a reason listed. In the meantime, one thing to try is to delete the currently scheduled series recording and reset that series recording again.

If you want to cancel the entire series, here are the steps:

    1. Press the My DVR button on your silver Comcast remote control and select Scheduled Recordings.2. Highlight the program title you want to cancel or modify and press OK/Select to view the Program Information screen.3. Select the Don't Record icon to cancel the recording4. Select Modify recording settings, then chose Don't Record this series and then OK/Select

    Thanks for your patience.

DB:2.77:Recording Shows Should Be Available 88

It would be nice if, shows recording on another DVR are available, while they are recording, from another DVR. As it stands now I record something using the iPhone app, hope it's recording on the other DVR but never know for sure unless I got check.Come to think of it.. it would be nice if you could schedule a recording to another DVR as well... may be if it was an option to schedule it just like adding an 'extension'

DB:2.77:Recording Shows Should Be Available 88

Yeah, well, if they can get this working reasonably well using home network, and document a few known configurations and support those, they should allow this sort of set up. Maybe in addition to the DECA. I like this MRV option, and would like it more when I get the upstairs DVR net-connected too and shared, but I'm not going to pay for this. I already pay them too much. Well, unless it's a buck a month per DVR or something ;)Thanks for your response.

DB:2.77:Is There An Upgraded Dvr That Is Not X1?? am

I had seen advertised, and told by local Comcast service center, that there's a DVR offered now by Comcast which allows recording more than 2 programs at once (and you can watch another program) -- i.e., much better than original DVR, closer to what the satellite companies are offering. But this is NOT the more expensive X1 set-up. We've been on a waiting list forever. Does anyone know anything about this option?

DB:2.77:Is There An Upgraded Dvr That Is Not X1?? am

None that I know of, the non-x1 DVRs only have the ability to record 2 and you have to watch one of the 2

DB:2.77:The Dvr Should Default To Record Programs And Not Cancel Them. kf

Comcast: Please change the default on the DVR? If I am watching a show and a new recording is about to begin, I get a message that asks me if I want to continue to record the show and switch channels, or cancel the recording and stay on the channel I'm at. If I happen to miss this message, then any shows that I have scheduled to record are CANCELLED. This is ludicrous! If you need to have this message at all, why not have it default to keep the show?

I am entirely sick of all the messages that pop up and how long they stay on the screen. I don't need messages telling me what the DVR is doing or is about to do! I also want to see the time displayed when I'm recording, pausing or FF'wding. I don't need a message in the time box telling me what the DVR is doing.

PLEASE bring back the old format that was light years ahead of this dinosaur!

DB:2.77:The Dvr Should Default To Record Programs And Not Cancel Them. kf

Maybe this is what happened to be tonight. I had 2 shows scheduled to record at 8pm, and I was watching something I recorded the other day.

I got the blue screen saying it had started recording.

When I finish the show I was watching, i wanted to start watching Modern Family. Surprise surprise, it wasn't there. Wasn't showing as cancelled, nothing at all to show it was ever set to record. It was in my to do list earlier. Also shows that next week is set to record.

I want my DIrectv back :/

DB:2.76:Cci Flag Incorrectly Set - Preventing Dvr/Tivo From Recording sm

    Hello,

Starting last weekend, every single show on the FOX network has the CCI byte set to 0x03, which causes devices like Tivo to automatically delete recordings after 90 minutes. This shouldn't be happening.

I chatted with support last night and they told me they've never had this happen before which is a lie, because you can find reports of this happening with Comcast all over the internet.

I need someone from Comcast who understands what I'm talking about to get back to me. Unfortunately the tier1 support people don't seem to be informed about the fact that broadcast networks, such as FOX should never have the CCI byte set.

    Thanks!

DB:2.76:Cci Flag Incorrectly Set - Preventing Dvr/Tivo From Recording sm

Thanks for sharing what you had to go through. I hope it doesn't take escalation to that level to get this resolved. Please let me know if you get a response from Comcast (if you decide to email them). The chat agent I spoke with said they would escalate my issue as well so we'll see.

    DB:2.76:Dvr Playback Freeze js

Periodically my dvr will freeze if it is playing back a recorded program while recording another. It'll play, and then just sort of stop. You can exit out of the playback and return to live tv ok, but if you go back to the recording to resume... it starts over again. Anyone know what that's all about? Really started happening after that last upgrade (the big one)
