Here's my take thus far - please share your insights with me.COST:-------A. About the same monthly charges; TiVo service plus Comcast cable card roughly equals the Comcast DVR charge.B. TiVo has an additional up-front charge of about $300 for their DVR, and a charge from the cable company to install a cable card in the TiVo DVR.PERFORMANCE:-----------------1. Both TiVo and Comcast DVRs display the exact same channels.2. Quality of the TiVo DVR picture quality may be higher (myth?).3. Quality of the TiVo user interface (channel guide, programming procedure) is better/easier.4. As a Netflix subscriber, I can use TiVo to stream movies from Netflix, but cannot with Comcast DVR.5. I can use either the TiVo or the Comcast DVR's with my existing analog (tube) TV or my imaginary new digital TV.Additions or corrections, anyone? Thanks,Teffy

DB:3.70:Tivo Dvr Versus Comcast Dvr zp

I was the very first person in a 50 mile radius to get the Tivo software on my Comcast/Motorola DVR box about a year ago. In fact it was so new that I had the direct phone number of an engineer to work with as we progressed through the install.

A few things I experienced, before I backed it out (again, however, this was about a year ago):

    - The performance was horrific. The 'Tivo software on Tivo hardware' is the premium experience. Trying to run/port the Tivo software over to the Motorola DVR seemed awkward, and it turned out to be that way. Channel switching took "forever", as did other standard activities (like the deletion of watched content).

    - Although I despise the existing Motorola DVR's interface with great passion, the drag on the performance outweighed the usability of the Tivo software/interface by a long shot.

    - Paying an additional fee, over and above what I was already paying for the standard Motorola DVR fees, seemed excessive. Especially (and to sound like a broken record) since the performance was so bad.

    - None of the really advanced features of (at the time) 'modern' Tivo units seem to be available. No online programming, no unit-to-unit sharing, etc.

    - You couldn't have the Tivo software on just a single unit in your house. It was the "whole house or no house" (as I have multiple DVRs).

Maybe the unit's improved 10x in quality, performance, etc. since then but I'm extremely hesitant to try that experiment again.

I've got Comcast digital service with their HD package and am currently using a Motorola HD box without the DVR. It is connected to my television via DVI out to HDMI in on my T.V. Starting today, the non-HD channels are displaying limited color/greyscale. All the HD channels are displaying correctly. If I unplug the DVI-HDMI cable from either the rear of the Motorola unit or my television the problem is solved, however if I am watching and HD channel and switch back to a non-HD channel the problem returns.

Any thoughts? Bad Motorola box? I called Comcast, they were clueless.

DB:3.62:Problem With Non-Hd Channels On Motorola Hd Box W/O Dvr 38

"Off" embeds the 4:3 SD channels in a 16:9 HD signal, so everything comes to the TV as HD. That way the TV is always seeing an HD signal. It won't "invent" resolution that isn't there, but it will simplify the interface between the box and the TV.

So sick of these stupid cable boxes! They provide less service quality if you own a new HD TV!

They keep saying they have to do "do this for new content"...lies! Before I was getting HD content cable channels that naturally broadcast already in HD showed in 1080i or 720p... (Stupid cable people new TVs display the channel quality) they changed to boxes to charge people and limit service now (the native HD channels) only broadcast in 480p. And with the boxes limits the sound quality also. Tired of comcast charging more for less service and quality of service! Not to mention you can have a new TV and because we're required to use box, we cant use half the features of new tv because we have to use cheap comcast remote through box! Not to mention they have had more problems with cable on my road "supposedly upgrading" tv with cable box ...no cable service for hours! Other tv's in house without box works fine! Called comcast ...

"no we won't pro-rate bill for loss of service (even though its on their behalf) and "you'll just have to get used to it".... So now i'm apparently paying comcast for no service as well... I work in a position to recomend new utility services to home owners and have made it a policy now, to not only, not recomment comcast to new home owners, but to warn them of my personal poor expirences with comcast and suggest they use anyone but comcast for TV!

OH, and sick of commercials about customer service! OUR whole community has had several town meetings in VA repeatedly telling comcast our dis-satisfaction with boxes....unlikecomcast commercial says... "you still haven't fixed the problem"... "still haven't recieved any compensation" for it either!

Thats after several V.P.'s of comcast to our area!

With ATT I get all 3 with their DVR for $94.99(goes up $26 after 1 year) and Comcast has the Triple play for $115. Does the DVR service come with the Triple play or is it $15 extra per month.

RJ48 is a standard PRI cable, if they require corssover you cannot use Ethernet cross over as different pairs are crosses, basically you need 1-4, 2-5 pin outs.

Having fun dealing with Comcast these days. I use a PC with a cable card tuner to receive/DVR cable TV and recently called Comcast to remove 2 of my 3 cable cards from my account as I now have a new Ceton cable card tuner that only needs 1 cable card to stream 4 channels. This simple task only took about 2 weeks to get working properly, with me having to educate the Comcast tech team almost every step of the way on what they needed to do.

After giving numerous lessonsto the Comcast team onthe differences between a"cable box" and a"cable card"and, about what a cable card id and host id are and that they needed to be paired in the Comcast system, all wasworking great.I called the sells team and had PROMO 6 added to my account to get digital preferred cable for 6 months at a discounted rate. Now things get really strange from here on. Instead of just getting charged for adding this new service, I suddenly got billed for the installation of 3 additional outlets. No outlets were added, just a service. They also tried to give me a $20 credit for missing an appointment that was never requested nor setup. I called customer support and explained that I never had 3 additional outlets installedand Comcast did not miss any appointments, as none were ever scheduled nor needed. The rep corrected the account information to reflect reality (or so I thought) and, all seemed right with the world.

Here it is 2 days later and the PROMO 6 has magically been removed from my account and the customer service rep I contacted to report the resulting missing channels found no record of me ever having the PROMO 6, even though I have been watching the channels since 9/01/2011 and my bill shows that PROMO 6 was added to my account on 9/01/2011.

Now I must wait until normal business hours to contact the sells group again to try and straighten this out. The people I talk to are always friendly, and I really want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt but, Comcast is making it really hard not to runback to Direct TV where these kinds of problems don't seem to exist. If it were not for the fact that I really prefer the Windows Media Center over any DVR I have used to date, I would have definitely jumped ship back to to Direct TV.

DB:3.34:Issues With Comcast Cable Boxes And Mitsubishi 3d Adapter zf

    Hi,

I have a 73C9 Mitsubishi DLP TV and a Mitsubishi 3D adapter. After signing up for Comcast and being issued a Motorola HD DVR, I foundthe Moto boxes (I've tried two different models)do not allow you toconnect more than oneHDMI device in between the cable box and the TV. So for example,Cable box to your AVR, to your TV is ok. But, if I hook cable box, to my AVR, then to my 3D adapter, then to my TV,it does not work. From what i've read elsewhere, the Moto box thinks that extra device is a recording device and will either make the screen flicker or display a message. It sounds like a firmware update will fix this issue, but i'm guessing i'llprobably be dead before that rolls out.

When I had Time Warner Cable, my Scientific AtlantaHD DVR had no problem letting me hook up my equipment how I need it to be.Does anyone know if the Comcast Atlanta boxes will work how I need them? Also, I am not open to the component cable workaround, only useHDMI in this house.

Question 2, Comcast employees pleasechime in, The reason i said above that I have tested two different models of Motorola boxes is because when I called Comcast and explained my issue and stated I wanted them to ship me only a Scientific Atlanta box, they of course sent me another Motorola. I have a feeling that I can probably request ten more cable boxes to be sent to me (at ten bucks a pop) and none of them will be the one I need. So do you have any suggestions on how I, the customer can get what I need?

To answer the first suggestion, my local comcast service center only carries Moto boxes and would not help me.

Any help would be appreciated because i love the service, just would like to use my 3D setup that I spent alot of money on. Thanks

    Tim

    Joliet, IL.

P.S. The last customer rep I spoke to stated that if I had the cable guy come out, they would set up my equipment how I needed it. I would like to believe that, but I have a feeling his truck will be full of Motorola boxes.

DB:3.34:Issues With Comcast Cable Boxes And Mitsubishi 3d Adapter zf

I'll throw out a few idea's for you.

Think about returning the Tivo wireless adapter and going with a power line ethernet solution. You will want a better network connection to the Tivo than the wireless adapter will give you. You will be glad you did if you start streaming HD online content to the Tivo like Netflix.

Make sure the Tivo has all the updates run before attempting the cable card intall. Run network update as many times as necessary until all updates are complete. Make sure it is totally setup before adding the cable card.

You will need to call Comcast to add the 3D codes on your accout if that hasn't been done already.

When it's time to pair the cable card, call the cable card hotline during the weekday's instead of calling the regular Comcast number. 1-877-405-2298. Before you call, plug in the cable card and give it at least 1 hour for the cable card to download and update itself for firmware updates and configuration. Do not rush at calling in to get it paired.

No one yet knows what to expect when On Demand does get offered for the Premier Tivo's. I keep a full Comcast box on the rack just for On Demand, separate from the Tivo's.

DB:3.23:Connecting Ethernet Cable From Dvr Box To Acer Notebook 7m

To connect to the Internet with the Acer, in addition to whatever computer you are using now, you need a router connected to your cable modem. Then you either run an ethernet cable from the router to the Acer, or if the Acer has a wireless adapter, connect to the wireless router that way.

You don't say what "DVR box" you are talking about. However, the ethernet ports on all the DVR's I know of are not usable for this purpose or are disabled. DVR's do NOT provide Internet access, only your cable modem does, which is why you need a router connected to the cable modem to handle multiple connections.

Greetings! I had new Comcast high speed internet installed about 3 weeks ago.

The modem is in our master bedroom. In our bedroom we have a Direct TV satellite with DVR.

The DVR had two cable lines running to it. This allows us to watch one show while recording another. The Comcast installer put a splitter on one of the cable lines. One side of the splitter runs to the modem and the other end runs to the DVR. My wife mentioned to him that both of the cable lines were in use with the DVR.

He acted like he was in a hurry and couldn't deal with any hassles.

The DVR will no longer record any programs.

I tried the technical support chat online. I couldn't get across to them that it's not the DVR that has an issue. It's the installation that isn't allowing it to record. They couldn't help unless I had Comcast Cable TV service.

Do we need to add something other than a splitter? Multi-switch? Amplifier?

    Any assistance is appreciated.

The only thing that works at that point is completely powering down the DVR and restarting it. It can be quite annoying.

Yes, I tried multiple HDMI cables, a different HDMI input on the TV, and attached other HDMI products without issues (an Apple TV works without issue as does a Mac Mini). And yes, I've tried the WORKING HDMI devices in the same HDMI inputs as the cable box and they show NO problems, even when changing settings, pausing or restarting movies or shows, or switching to different services on the devices.

When I use the composite audio and video outputs with RCA cables, there is no issue at all, but the picture quality suffers. I'm getting ready to toss the whole thing back and stick with the Apple TV as my only service.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it the box, or a typical comcast issue? I have to be honest, these DVRs seem to behave like a cheap computer without sufficient RAM. Sluggish, unresponsive, and with this new one, audio issues. Any insight appreciated.

Since Comcast Cable changed to the new guide interface, I have been extremely disatisfied with the entire service. The new interface is TERRIBLE. The vast majority of time, we are unable to use the DVR to record, play or even find programs through the guide. The call I made to Comcast has to get help with the new interface and using the DVR was not very helpful. We still can't use the DVR most of the time. When I asked the rep why comcast changed the interface etc., I was told, "it's supposed to be better." It's really unbelievable. It is so far inferior to the previous interface and user friendliness. As soon as FIOS is available in our area, we will be promptly switching. If we can't wait, we will go back to Satellite. This new interface is that awful. What a big mistake Comcast had made. I know my mother is going to be doing the same because she hates the new interface as well. If you want to keep your customers, I advise fixing this new interface to make it alot easier to use, make it actually work, or going back to the previous interface, which was perfectly good. I can't wait to get a working DVR and decent user interface.

It would be extremely doubful these days with so many expensive DVR's and settop boxesin place to pull everything out and replace it. In the 80's 90's they used to when boxes were cheap, but it would be rare especially in a large system.

I could seethem doing it in a small system that they would shut down the existing SA headend and tie the system to a nearby Moto headend, but there are not many area's that can be done with. The larger the system, the less chance of it ever happening.

Most major MSO's run both brands of equipment in different areas.

You would never seen an official answer from Comcast on major equipment changes. Comcast is concentrating on getting the new features on the SA systems, it's easier and cheaper the change the software than the hardware.

I told the tech 5X that I did not want to lose any functions I had with my downstairs HD Box (being swapped for HD DVR Cable Box--Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HDC) which basic Box had always been successfully linked to my own stand alone DVR/VCR device. This enabled me to record to my own Discs and VHS Tapes any Comcast channels INCLUDING On Demand, Starz and HBO.

He assured me that I would still be able to record any Comcast channel to my own DVR/VCR player if I chose to do so, even if I upgraded to the HD DVR service of Comcast's. I stressed that I wanted to elect which time shifting option I wanted with On Demand shows (to Comcast DVR or my own).

Long story short: no way that I can see how I can record On Demand shows to the brand new Comcast DVR service. I tried about 10X in differing sequences, but it seems not doable. Also, as of now I can record NOTHING to my own DVR/VCR device despite his assurances that I would be able to do so. (He said I would need to buy an "S-video cable" to record directly to my own DVR).

He promised to give me written instructions, he left without doing so. Finally, when he removed the basic HD DVR Cable Box (substituting the new horrific HD DVR Box) he DELETED the unaffected upstairs Cable box which was never part of the upgrade. As of now we have COMPLETELY lost service upstairs.

Customer Service horrendous said no expedited corrective action can be taken for 2 days. Could care less about the circumstances. Refused to send original tech out to clean up his mess.

Was I lied to in several ways or is this basic hopefully curable incompetence?

Plus I gave the tech Installer a $15 tip not realizing that his reassurances (no lost functions on my personal VCR/DVR device and I could record On Demand shows on my Comcast DVR) were worthless.

5 hours on the phone last two days no solution until tomorrow evening, no upstairs service at all plus major loss of functionality.

A 32 year customer is just about fed-up.

DB:3.16:Nightmare--Just Had Comcast Hd Dvr Box Installed 87

I will pass your solution on directly to the tech when he gets here tomorrow evening. I was so encouraged when the original tech assured my again and again (among other things) that with the new HD DVR I will be able to put On Demand into my "vault" and watch the shows whenever.

As long as it ends up that I will still be able to again record On Demand from my New Cable Box to my own Video Disks and Tapes there should be no fatal issue. But I cannot get the 5 hours of my life (and counting) back.

    Thanks again.

    Here's a crazy question...

I'm trying to export some recorded video from my Comcast DVR (Motorola DCT3412 I) and export/capture into FCP6 so I can burn onto a DVD.

My DVR has a FW400/IEEE1394 output that's intended for a TV or monitor with a FW400 input. I've got the DVR connected directly to my iMac with a FW400 cable, but the computer can't find the DVR.

    Any suggestions?

    PB

DB:3.14:Can I Capture Video From My Comcast Dvr Into Fcp6 Via Fw400? 9z

In brief, the answer is no. It has nothing to do with FCP. First, in most cases most cable services etc have a "copy once" policy and that "once" goes onto the drive within the cable box. Except for a second or third rate analog signal , that is where it stays. You might be able to record certain channels "live" via FW. For that, I suggest you go to avsforum.com and look for HTPC Mac chat and learn from a host of masochists on how to record "live". Except for a few of the "major networks" you are not going to capture video. In Boston, that means maybe 4 channels. The only recourse is to connect the S-video out from the cable box along with the analog or digital audio and record your material playing from the cable box's hard drive to your DV cam and take that into FCP. That means, of course, you start with less than good quality video.

I plug the DVR into the firewire port of my iMac. Then, I run iMovie, the import command treated the DVR as if it does not exist. When I plugged in my camcorder, the iMovie let me import from my tape.

Is it a problem on the DVR? Or my iMac is missing a driver for the DVR? Or this combination is not part of the design?

Does anyone have experience importing video from the motorola DVR from Comcast?

    Thanks in advance.

DB:3.14:Can The Imac Interface With The Motorola Dct6412 Dvr? cz

While you are correct that some ports such as USB and Ethernet are not enabled, the Firewire IEEE 1394 ports are active for video output. That is how D-VHS decks are connected to the Motorola 6412 and it is one way HDTV's with Firewire input can connect. However, the Comcast cableguide menus do not appear via a Firewire connection.

No scan, it all operates by your local over the air locations for the Tivo's that will hook to an antenna, and the cable tuners only match the channels to the local cable system, by entering the zip code.

The Tivo would have a selection such as choices for the local cable system (Comcast, Fios or an over builder such as WOW or RCN) or over the air for that specific zip. That's why sometimes Tivo users have to use a close by zip in situations where the channel lineup doesn't quite match.

He also said even if he had one, he wouldn't be allowed to put it in because only special technicians were allowed to handle them which is why Comcast was getting rid of them. I mentioned my daughter lives a couple of blocks away and has one, and he said she probably got hers as one of the last ones.He made quite a few phone calls, and then told me that the office had found one, they had an installation opening the next day, and he had written everything in the notes for the guy the next day.The next morning the technician arrived, and I mentioned the cable card. He said he didn't know I wanted a cable card and hadn't seen one in years. I told him the whole story and he checked the notes, and nothing was written about it. I went ahead and got a box so we could have the wireless and cable installed (my husband was going crazy with no TV, and I wasn't exactly happy), but he promised to keep searching for a cable card and would contact me if one was ever found. I don't know whether I will ever see a cable card here.My husband and I are retired and can't really pay a extra $20 a month for a Comcast DVR when I have a newer TiVo with the lifetime plan all paid for just sitting here. When I received a phone call about the installation, I had to give poor marks to the service, and received a follow-up call. The woman on the other end seemed amazed at the story and said there was no problem getting a cable card where she was.So, can I order a cable card from some other area and have it sent here? Would the local Comcast need to install it? How do I get a cable card? I contacted TiVo to see if there was some other way to use the machine, and they said Comcast uses cable cards all the time and couldn't believe my local office won't use them.

    DB:3.09:No Cable Cards? 8m

Yes, thank you. I picked one up with no problem. I only wish he hadn't installed the router in the basement rafters about 30" over my head, because I don't think I can get to it. I am trying the set up by PC before I break out the stepladder.

I recently added an HDTV DVR to my service and have had
nothing but trouble. When I picked up the DRV the rep in the Branford CT
Comcast office said all they had was refurbished boxes. I took an old
refurbished box home and immediately had problems connecting the box. After
several hours trying to get the box to give me a picture and calls to Comcast I
found out that the video cable Comcast gave me was a bad cable with the Blue
and Green cables reversed. Once I got that fixed I had problem with the DVR working. The DVR would not
record programs scheduled for the future and it would reset itself wiping out
any shows I recorded. This went on for a few days and after several calls to
Comcast I had a service technician come out to look at my box. I was told that
all comcast had was refurbished boxes and that if they gave me another box it
may have worse problems. I said I would keep what I had and see if it improved.
I continued to have problems so I called Comcast again and told them I wanted a
new DVR and again I was told that Comcast does not have new equipment and all
they have are refurbished boxes. I have another repair call scheduled for
tomorrow and supposedly I will get a working DVR but it will be refurbished.

My question is, Why doesn't Comcast provide new products to
its customers when they sign up for Comcast service? Why do I have to suffer
with refurbished equipment that does not work and cables that are miswired? Why
do I have to pay for a service and have to have nothing but problems and have to
make repeated calls and get used equipment? I want a new HD DVR that works
correctly and I want someone from Comcast senior management to contact me and
promise that they will supply the service that I am paying a lot of money each
month for. ATT U-Verse just became
available in my town and if I do not get quality service from Comcast and a
resolution to my problems with new equipment, I will consider this alternative.

    DB:3.08:Refurbished Equipment 31

We are in the middle of distributing new boxes to markets. Hopfully by next year all markets will have new boxes. Was the tech able to resolve your issue?

My Comcast remote suddenly stopped working with my Comcast Motorola DVR Cable Box. (The remote still works with the TV and DVD player.) I called support this morning and they had me try various things and reset my DVR box, but the Comcast remote still wouldn't pair with the Comcast Motorola DVR Cable Box. Support advised me to go to a local service center and pick up a new remote. I have a new remote now, and I still can't pair the remote with the DVR Cable Box. I've tried a reset on the remote. Still no luck. How do I fix? Do I need a new box? I can manually push buttons on the box to use it, but it's a real hassle. Thank you!

Same here, got a Motorola box and saw problem right away (started on 2/24/10). Called support reset box and remote, no love. Swapped the box, and went through 4 remotes. My unit is a Motorola DCH3416 and remotes are a Custom DVR 3 Device. I have a Insignia TV and none of the codes work with these remotes, tried support again to no avail. I am using the componet and HDMI hookups.

The channel up and down are the best working, about 50% of time. The guide will come up but navigating it is about worthless and VERY painful.

I picked up a scientific atlanta hd dvr box (model 8300hdc) from my local comcast service center the other day and the remote they provided with it (dark silver with red ok button) does not function with the box when the remote is in cable mode. I took the remote back to the service center and they provided a replacement remote. This second remote also does not function with the cable box.

I am wondering if this is a remote problem, a box problem, or if they are even providing the correct remote with the box they gave me. Any ideas?

I have a Model: NSZ-GT1 Internet TV blu-ray player and have it connected to my Comcast Explorer 8300 hd dvr cable box. The problem is while I am able get to my DVR menu with the NSG-MR1 remote to view and play recorded programs, when I try to erase or manage the recorded program after viewing, the DVR prompts me to select the "A" button in a yellow triangle to confirm yes erase, or select "c" in a red circle to select no. I cannot figure out which keys on the remote will work for this confirm erase function. What are the yellow, blue, red and green keys at the top of the Sony remote used for? I've pushed everything I know to push and can't figure out a way to select the button I need to erase my dvr programs.

The IR Blaster settings for my cable dvr box are set at 11877 and seem to pass the test as the working code. Any hope I can remedy this problem or do I need to get a new or different Comcast cable box?

Talked to Comcast yesterday and for now I have to use my Comcast remote to control the DVR.

    DB:3.08:Comcast Dvr Controls dk

Why is Sony refusing to add this functionality? The buttons are there, the codes are well known, it should be simple to add it to the system. This system could esily replace all your remotes with this one, except for this one issue.

Sony, please add the A, B, C button functions to the colored buttons on the remote.

I use to have ATT Uverse for 6mo. I never had any problems with customer service, when the cable was installed they sat down and explained all the great feature because it comes with many more options than a regular DVR including comcast's. I have had nothing but problems with comcast since day one when they came to my house for installation and drilled holes in my walls even though I told them not to. The internet is much faster and much less glitchy. I never had any problems on any of my HD tvs, gaming systems, or computers. I was able to remote access my DVR from any computer or smartphone, not just the iPhone, and comcast is just now offering that feature and only to HD customers. Uverse is cheaper, moreaccessible, better service. All the comercials depicting ATT as slow and having problems are false, if anything I've only experienced these problems with comcast.

HI there - could you please post specifics as to what issues you are experiencing? To clarify a point, all dvr customers are able to schedule recordings remotely if the service is available in the area. This is not dependant on the availability of HD service.

Im actually on chat waiting for a comcast rep now so I can order the cable cards.

PS: Also do we keep the Comcast box or do we give that back to Comcast? If we get rid of the Comcast box do we get charged a monthly fee for the cable cards? No more box and DVR service fee right?

DB:3.08:New To Tivo. Any Information Helpful. sk

You won't receive any OnDemand programs, because it requires two-way communication to Comcast, which the TiVo won't handle. You would need to retain the Comcast box in order to get OnDemand. That would also require you to pay a second digital outlet monthly fee -- the total extra charge would depend on the type of box you had. If you kept your current box and just added the cablecard to the TiVo it would be about $6.10 more than now (assuming you have another TV).

DB:3.07:Online Dvr Manager Hangs While "Loading" ss

I'm a new customer and originally ordered a single HD DVR. It worked fine and I was able to use the Online DVR Manager without any problems. This is a Motorola with a black, shiny case.

Yesterday, I upgraded my service to include a second HD DVR that I installed myself. This DVR seems to work ok using the remote control. This unit is also a Motorola and has a silver case and appears to be larger than the first unit. The online DVR Manager seemed to recognize this unit, reported it was synching and was not available for DVR Management functions.

I attempted to access the Online DVR Manager this morning and the web page stalled with the "Loading" message. After several hours I called Comcast/Xfinity customer service whose only advice was to switch from Internet Explorer v9 to the Firefox browser. I installed Firefox v6 but encountered the same situation. I tried Chrome browser but again, have the same problem.

Subsequently, I deleted browsing history and cookies from all three browsers and attempted to access the online DVR Manager but all three browsers stalled with "Loading" message.

At this point I have tried rebooting, restarting the browsers, several Apache Shaman chants (without the peyote), all without success. I'm out of ideas.

Do you have any suggestions (other than adding peyote to my chants).

    Thanks.

DB:3.07:Online Dvr Manager Hangs While "Loading" ss

I was unable to find a setup option for "online services" however I do have one for "Remote Access". It only offers the choice to Delete Service. I've done that, waited for a short while then re-enabled the service. I'm assuming that is the same service you referenced, just a menu difference. There has not been any change in the befaviour; still hangs with the "loading" message.

Thus far I've tried four different browsers (IE8, IE9, Chrome and Firefox); I've deleted Cookies, browser history and tried two different computers; no joy yet ... just "loading".

I realize I can do everything directly using the remote control but the online DVR Manager is helpful for me to overcome difficulties with my low vision.

Are there any other ideas I should try? or should I try customer service again?

Is there a plan for Comcast to allow any of the non-DVR boxes to view recording on the DVR?

    DB:3.04:Multiple Viewing Of Dvr pa

Sorry, it is impossible for the external drive to connect and read the files from the drive and make them useable to a pc. The same with a Tivo, the drives are "married" to the device and can't be moved to another device and make them useable. These files do have some copy protection flag and formatsto prevent these files to be useable to anything else.

The Studios have alot to do with how much these files are locked down and not able to copy off a drive or from device to device. They make it almost impossible to do anything with these files.

With Tivo's multiple DVR's on the same account can move files from box to box or to a pc, as every device has the same "key" to keep the copy protection sync'd between the devices. Premium's and certain shows always have some copy protection that makes them impossible to move or play on another device. On the Tivo's you can't share these files to another user with their own Tivo, but they can be stored on a server or other storage device and then copied back when they are to be played.

There are other solutions for archiving, justnot with a a Comcast DVR. The intent of a Comcast DVR is casual time-shifting and nothing more. Comcast Motorola equipped area's never were able to add a extra drive on those DVR's, which is over 80% of the Comcast systems.

You may have a bad box, or your service is not set up correctly. Try using the chat option to see if they can help (they are marginally better than the phone techs, and you don't have to wait an hour to get one online with you). There are still Comcast area's that the limited basic channels are in clearQAM. Many other area's are starting to lose the clearQAM as Comcast moves forward with a 100% encrypted channels.

As Comcast systems differ on if they still have any clearQAM channels left or not, you could find a recorder with a clearQAM tuner, but don't expect it to last too much longer . Some recorders, even those without tuners, do have iRblasters that can control a cable box for changing channels on the cable box when the recorder needs to change channels.

For a long term investment, your only other option is to purchase a Tivo and add a Comcast supplied cable card. That will get you the encrypted channels on your digital TV package. Any other solution on a system with full encryption would be to place a Comcast supplied cable box inline with the recorder to control the channel changes.

HD typically costs $6 extra or so for the HD cable box. The basic package prices only include one SD tuner. Don't forget that for a true Tivo, you need to pay them $12.99 (and the cost of the Tivo itself), and possibly a rental to Comcast for the CableCard(s) (you may have to pay for the second CableCard.)Message Edited by andyross on 01-20-2009 04:23 PM

You didn't provide alot of info, such as model numbers of the box and DVD. I can give you the short answer. You match the outputs of the cablebox to the inputs of the DVD and record in real time. The outputs of the DVD go to the TV so you can see what you are recording. The connections may be , in decending order of quality, HDMI, Component,Composit or Coax. Use what you have.

We used to have Tivo Service installed on a comcast dvr box. We cancelled that service more than a year ago, and now just have regular comcast dvr service.

Now, we cannot use the comcast online dvr scheduler. Tried talking to a comcast technician on the phone, but they were stumped. It appears as though the comcast website believes we still have tivo .

While logged into my account, whenever I go to

    http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/mytv/dvr

    I am redirected to

    http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/mytv/tivo

with an error message on the page saying:

TiVo Online Scheduler is available in your area. However, we are unable to detect a compatible TiVo in your household.

I inspected the source code for the web page

    http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/mytv/dvr

    and see this

    if(user.rsDeviceType user.rsDeviceType == "tivo" location.href.indexOf("dvr")-1){location.href = "/mytv/tivo";}

so i think that's the source of my problem,

i think comcast has a setting wrong for my account and that is triggering the explicit change to the tivo URL

    any thoughts ?

DB:3.02:Voice / Data Cable Modem Replacement dm

UFHInd gave a good reply. It does get confusing because the answer is not the same in every region, some will allow self-owned eMTAs others do not, so you really need to do your "homework" and check first.

"Officially", the only user owned eMTA approved is the Arris TM 722G, same as the one you have now, that supposedly has to be purchased through a Best Buy that has an agreement with Comcast (only selected stores do that).

However, the Arris TM 822G, a newer version eMTA which is an 8x4 configuration, would by far be my choice for purchase. The TM 722G while a good eMTA modem, is only a 4x4 D3 device, and to me it makes little sense to buy one when it is already at the longer end of its life span.

There are reports of folks who have purchased a NEW (not re-furb!) 822G through Amazon who have had their modems successfully provisioned...though often not without a hassle.

My wife and I moved to Las Vegas at the beginning of the month and had our Comcast internet service ended. We had a prorated bill to reflect the the time we did not use internet services after our cut off period. Our bill was cut in half and we thought we were clear of extra charges.

Here's the twist. When we had switched from our bundled package of internet and cable tv we decided to keep the internet service and go with a competitors television package. A comcast service tech came to our house and we returned our DVR to him. We thought all was well. We received no bills for the equipment and continued in our day to day routine.

After we cut of service and traveled two thousand miles to the west coast we received a bill from Comcast saying that we owed them $400+ for our DVR. A DVR that was returned and never became an issue with billing until we terminated our subscription and moved 4 years later! This all seems like a scam to me.

In Comcast's defense - U-Verse can only record 4 programs at one time if you are relatively close to the VRAD.. usually less than 2500 feet. Additionally, the limitation on 4 tuner recording is 1 HD recording at a time.

You can "always" get 4 tv streams on U-Verse, but the distance from you to the VRAD at ATT in your neighborhood may assign you a varied profile. For example: you may have enough bandwidth to get 1 HD channel and 1 SD channel, simultaneously, or 1 HD and 2 SD.

Additionally, the U-Verse sales team cannot tell you what profile you will get until the tech comes out to install. So, to anyone considering U-Verse over Comcast, do some serious research on distance limitations. Which, Comcast doesn't have

Spent over an hour yesterday with a rep online and she tried rebooting and sending a new signal to the DVR, still no luck with On Demand. I cannot believe that On demand is the only way to access movies, also the Cisco DVR is not compatible with internet programming. I can tell you a few things with certainty.

    1. Cisco and Scientific Atlanta boxes do not work with online dvr programming with the xfinity app.

    2. Cisco SA boxes cannot be swapped out and get a motorola box, the infrastructure is not compatible.

    3. Go here to see if you can indeed get on demand, some areas do not have it some are in virginia.

    https://www.comcast.com/Localization/Localize.cspx?Referer=%2fshop%2fbuyflow%2fdefault.ashx%3farea%3...

    4. your description of what you get when you chose a movie is correct, you can choose info to get what the movie is about.

I am a standard Def customer who records standard Def channels on my Magnavox H2160 DVR so that I can watch them later at a convenient time. The connections are analog video and audio output of the STB to the input of the DVR.

PROBLEM STATEMENT: My ancient Motorola DCH70 SD STB failed during a thunderstorm and Comcast sent me a new "HD ready" RNG110 STB as a replacement. The RNG110 works great except that it prevents my Magnavox DVR from recording any channels higher than 31 (it does allow me to record local broadcast channels and the junk shopping channels). The problem is that the DVR sees any channels above channel 32 (USA, TWC, FX, ESPN, etc....) as being copyright protected and hence will not record.

This problem exists whether you use analog video/audio (RCA connectors) or modulated(coax connector) between the STB and the DVR. This problem did not exist with the prior Motorola SD STB nor does it exist with the little Digital Adapter unit.

COMCAST TECHNICAL SUPPORT: The Comcast tech support person was of no help. In listening to her suggestions, it was obvious that she does not know how a CATV system works, much less understand my problem.

SOLUTION: I drove over to the Comcast service center and asked for an old STB. They gave me an old Motorola DCT6200/2005 STB. It is bigger and produces alot of heat but otherwise works great. It fixed my problem.

BOTTOM LINE: Be wary of the RNG110 STB if you have a non-Comcast provided DVR.

DB:2.99:Solution: Dvr Cannot Record With New Comcast Stb km

That shouldn't of happened with the new boxes. You should be able to record any channel and be able to be watch it for 7 days. It could be Comcast or the station itself. What ironic about all this is you can watch most of the shows online the next day. I am glad I decided on DTAs instead of a box.

Two days later the tech arrives and does a great job installing the DVR box, secondary non DVR box and the modem. I ask him if the anyroom DVR is working and he said no not yet, but you have all the hardware required and that Comcast just needs to flash the update to the cable boxes.

I call tech support and get the run around from some offshore help desk guy that keeps repeating that in order for my DVR to work I need to just reboot it. I kept trying to explain to him I didnt have a problem with the DVR, I needed the Anyroom DVR functionality I was told I would have. He says once again, that if I reboot the DVR I will get that functionality. I rebooted and, suprise, no change in functionality.

At this point I can sense he is not grasping the scope of my request so I call customer sales since I will then at least not be talking to someone with a limited understanding of my language.

At this point I get a sales rep who was very pleseant, but informs me that the only way I can get Anyroom DVR is by switching to a Triple Play package that I have no need for. I explained to him I don't need phone service and the extra $40 that comes with it, just to get something that I was assured I would get by both the original sales rep and the install tech. His reply was that I don't have to use the phone service..... :-| !!! I explained to him that paying $40 a month extra just to get Anyroom DVR functionality is insane!

I find it very dishonest that Comcast would not allow me to get Anyroom DVR unless I shell out a substantial amount of money per month to upgrade to a phone service I have no need for. I feel like I have been lied to from the start regarding this.

I was a UVerse subscriber and was very happy with the service, especially the ability to schedule and watch recorded shows in any room I had a box. Unfortunatly, my family moved to a new house that did not have the higher download speeds that we had at out old home. So, with no other options I called Comcast. Talk to a sales rep, tell him what I want and that I have no need for phone service, but do need TV and internet, and he sets me up with a double play and 50Mbs download. During the conversation, I had talked extensively to him about having Anyroom DVR functionality and would that be available to me. He said that I should get it because it was available in my area. DB:2.99:Can Comcast Keep Me With A Better Dvr? 73

Verizion FIOS is coming into my neighborhood in the next month. I've had Comcast internet since they came in my neighborhood 4 years ago, and Comcast TV and phone for a little over a year (I had DirecTV). I've been happy with Comcast Internet. The phone service is fine, but I don't really need or use it. The TV channels have been OK, not as good as Direct TV but good enough.

What is really painful is changing to the Comcast DVR after 5+ years with DirecTV TiVo. It is the sole reason I may switch to Verizon FIOS. I would really like to stay with Comcast if they could fix these issues with the DVR:

    Must Have:
The ability to record only new shows and not repeats. The DVR actually supports this but Comcast in my area doesn'tChannel guide that shows only channels that I received. It's not good to have to look through a whole lot of channels that I don't receive when looking through the guide.Keyword Search. I want to be able to record all Maryland college basket games.A larger hard drive then 160 GB. I could live with 320GB but 500 GB would be nice.

    Like to have:
    Multi room DVR.

Comcast told me over a year ago that I would get a new DVR in 6 months, a new interface, and also I would be able to get TiVo. They also said there would be Tru2Way DVRs in 2008. None of these were true.

In the end, I would like to stay with Comcast but I need a DVR that isn't horrible. Is there any chance that Comcast can keep me?

My DVR locked up and the Comcast "International Support" Reps reset and rebooted it.

I've generally had very good luck with Comcast Xfinity TV only service (would never use their Internet or Telephone). That said, when you have a problem, it is so frustrating talking to phone support/chat support. There should be a better way without wasting so much of the customer's time.

If you have a similar issue and need support, here are suggestions:

    1. Get your Cable Model:
    2. Get your Cable Box Serial Number:
    3. Get your Comcast Account Number:
    4. Get your your Comast Remote Codes:
    5. Delete all past DVR recorded shows (you might not be too popular in your household after that):
    6. Ask that the Comast to:
    a) Refresh your box connection from their system.
    b) Send signs to the box to correct any errors in the network.
    7. Book an Appointment to have a Comcast Technician come out.

The TV still sporadically freezes, does anyone have any suggestions to correct or diagnose this issue?

I don't want to be insensitive, but I would really like to see Comcast use inviduals that speak good English. I also think foreign langauge support might be helpful for inviduals that don't speak English.

Finally, after not getting my TV/DVR to work, the last thing I want is to hear any marketing pitch for Internet or Phone Services.

    DB:2.99:Comcast Lied About Dvr 7x

I was advised by Comcast that in order to reduce my monthly bill, it would be beneficial for me to switch from 3 dvrs to whole house dvr. Prior to switching, I had full dvr capability on all 3 tvs and receivers, especially stop and pause which is basically the main feature we use as we are both hard of hearing and have to pause rewind the tv if the phone rings, dog barks etc. I had contemplated changing to a new cable company, but I was convinced by a Comcast retention department rep that my bill would be lower andmy service would be the same.I repeatedly asked if the new dvr boxes would have the stop and pause feature and was told several times that they would. Before he even started the set-up this morning, I asked the installerifthe new dvrboxes would function the same as the old ones and he assured methey would. After the installation, the only tv that did indeed stopand pause was the main box in the living room. The installer apologized and said apparently he wasn't asexperienced with the newer dvrs as he should be. I asked if we could get our old boxes re-installed and was told thatour old account had been canceled and could not be reinstated. I am absolutely livid and feel Comcast practices fraudulent sales techniques. Had I known the newdvr system would not functionlike the old one, I never would have switched. My next phone call will be to my credit card company to stop Comcast from automaticallycharging any more monthlybilling statements to my card until I am compensated for my time, trouble, and aggravation.

    DB:2.99:Comcast Lied About Dvr 7x

Calling your bank to deny any withdraw from your account from a company may not be the best thing to do. Your bank may charge you for it, and if Comcast sees that you aren't paying the bill they may shut you off for not paying the bill, which could also charge you late fees, and other fees that may be related to not paying the bill such as reactivation fees, convience fees, etc, which can further complicate things. Comcast can always credit your account later, if need be, if the credit is justified, and if you really want you can remove the auto-pay information from your comcast account yourself on comcast.net. I also doubt that the misinformation was intentional, probably just the people you talked to not really knowing the product and how it works.

DB:2.99:Does Comcast Now Require The Use Of A Tuning Adapter? 87

My personal HD DVR has recently stopped allowing me to watch and record premium channels. I use a cable card and have never had a problem before. I know most other cable providers require the use of a Tuning Adapter in addition to the cable card, is this now a requirement for my Comcast service?

I read some info here relating to this subject but haven't found any iinfo from Comcast directly.

Comcast does not require the use of a tuning adapter anywhere in its system. You have some other cablecard issue.

Try calling this cablecard support number:
