What was the name you tried to use?

DB:4.96:Re: Ora-00955: Name Is Already Used By An Existing Object - Creating Workspace aa

We eventually traced the problem back to a stability issue with the server where Oracle would start behaving incorrectly when the server spiked with high-activity.

We did test the problem outside of TOAD as well (SQLPlus), and although I agree in sentiment with support based on Oracle tools, TOAD in a majority of normal use cases simply passes commands through OCI like any other application. When TOAD has problems they are generally obvious issues with TOAD.

I apologize for the syntax error, I was retyping from a sqlplus window and missed the field alias after the value.

In general if your object is name BOGUS to see what type of object it is in the SQL Workshop do the following:

    SELECT * FROM DBA_OBJECTS WHERE OBJECT_TYPE = 'BOGUS'

assuming your schema has access to DBA_OBJECTS. If not you should be able to use USER_OBJECTS instead.

    Hi there,

I have installed SAP R/3 4.7 central and database instance. Now I am installing CRM 4.0 instance. While install database instance i get the following error:

    create table "/SAAPTRX/AOTREF" ( "CLIENT" VARCHAR2(3) .. . . . . . . )

TABLESPACE PSAPORA(where ORA is the databse name)

(few other tables also give similar error in the Logs).

SAP Notes recommend that few of the tables had to be deleted by sql commands from ORACLE database.

    Please advise !

Here are the steps to identify the object in question:

    1) Start the replication on logical standby
    2) Once the replication starts it will show you the same error in the alert log file as you mentioned above.
    3) Query DBA_LOGSTDBY_EVENTS order by EVENT_TIMESTAMP. The last event will capture the name of the object that is creating the problem.
    4) Based on your knowledge of database /application objects, you can skip that table using DBMS_LOGSTADBY.SKIP and start the replication again without any issue.
    5) If you dont need that object in the logical DB to be replicated then let it be skipped, otherwise reinstate the object again in logical standby.

    Amar.

In your expdp command i believe you are using job_name=EXPSCHEMA. So when a expdp run the activities performed for this job will be in a table called USER_NAME_USED_FOR_EXPDP.JOB_NAME and when you again try using the same job_name it fails saying ORA-31633: unable to create master table "USER_NAME_USED_FOR_EXPDP.JOB_NAME"

So as Anantha R said please drop this table. It will work fine. Or you can give a different job_name.

    Hi Justin
I just tried flowing your suggestion
    exec DBMS_WM.EnHiableVersioning( 'EMP', 'VIEW_WO_OVERWRITE' )
    I got next error
ORA-20108: triggering event 'INSERT OR UPDATE OR DELETE' not allowed

Is this because I have other trigger on this table?

    And I tried
    exec DBMS_WM.EnableVersioning( 'DEPT', 'VIEW_WO_OVERWRITE' );
    I got
ORA-20101: child table must be version enabled

That means I can not backup view directly ? How can deal with view?

( I created a independent table and tried again. This table is working. )
    Thanks again!!!

DB:3.97:Getting Ora Error 00955 Name Is Already Used By An Existing Object 8f

    Hi,

Our application is using dbms_xmlschema.deleteSchema and dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema to un-register and register xml schema in oracle database. The application is calling functions in following way:

    Unregister - dbms_xmlschema.deleteSchema(schemaURL, delete_option = dbms_xmlschema.DELETE_CASCADE_FORCE)

    Register - dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema(schemaURL,schemaDoc,true,false,false,true,false,owner,DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.ENABLE_HIERARCHY_NONE, options = DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.REGISTER_BINARYXML);

where schemaURL, schemaDoc, owner are all defined.

We are facing a problem in that - after I unregister a schema as defined by schemaURL, if I try to register the schema again I'm getting the following oracle error:

    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object

Not able to find out which name is already being used.

After googling for the problem for a bit, could find one method to debug in following blog post: http://www.liberidu.com/blog/?p=1816 . We are trying that approach but still not much luck. So, would need help here. Is there some better way to find out what "name" is already in use, so that we can delete that table manually and try registering our xml schema again. Would be grateful for any suggestions and help in this regard.

    Thank you,
    Venkatesh

    DB:3.94:Enableversioning Fails With Ora-00955 am

    Hi Ben,
I was not able to find the source of this problem. I created a TAR with the same question and here is the result.

    Ondrej

Development confirmed Workspace Manager creates a procedure with *table_name_g* in a number of
places. Since in your case the object (USEKVVN_G) already exists, an error is
    raised.
The current object needs to be renamed or dropped for enableversioning to successfully complete.
Development will update the documentation to add this to the reserved word list and modify the code to display a better error message
    for this situation.

Hi,That works when I try it.Post a complete script that people can run to re-create the problem and test their ideas. Include a CREATE TABLE command for the original tablle. Are you sure the statement you posted is actually the one that's causing the error? I would expect that tryin to create something, not dropping it, would cause an error like that.

DB:3.90:Re: Unable To Drop A Column: Java.Sql.Sqlexception: Ora-00955: Name Is Already Used By An Existing Object mp

Thanks but I was referring to system triggers that might be doing something. You said this:I've already tried to purge recyclebin, but no chance. I get the error after DROP statement, not CREATE.Referring to the example code I posted I was thinking that your DROP statement might be trying to rename an object for some reason and an object with that name already exists. The recycle bin shouldn't come into play for a DROP COLUMN.Then again, the example code I posted gives an error for the first time (after the drop) that the CREATE is executed but not for the second. That means Oracle is doing some clean-up somewhere that fixes whatever the problem was.Don't know what it might be in your case. You might open an SR with Oracle.

The issue seems to be due to inconsistent dictionary. Even after the constraint is dropped you are not able to create a constraint with the same name. This would happen when your dictionary is not consistent. Run the hcheck.sql script available on Metalink and analyze the output.

In 10.1.0.2, I was able to first drop a unique constraint then recreate it as follows:

    alter table OTPC_BLD_CHANGESET drop constraint UNQ_OTPC_BLD_CHANGESET_0;
    ALTER TABLE OTPC_BLD_CHANGESET ADD CONSTRAINT UNQ_OTPC_BLD_CHANGESET_0 UNIQUE (NAME, OWNER, COMMIT_DATE);

However, when I tried to the same thing in 11.2.0.1, it complained:
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object

Could anyone tell me how I can recreate a unique constraint by dropping it and creating it? Thanks.

    DB:3.76:Cannot Recreate Unique Constraint In 11gr2 7s

I had the same problem which occurred after a rename table.

Apparently you do indeed have to drop the old index after you remove it as a constraint. Even after I dropped the constraint from the old table, it was still hanging around as an index blocking the recreate. Dropping the index fixed the issue.

    Hi All,

We have built some OBIEE dashboards and reports that are taking data from Oracle 11g OLAP Cube views.Intermittently the reports are throwing bizarre ORA errors like Oracle Error code: 955, message: ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object/unique constraint violated.Clueless about the reason.Strangely enough, once clicking on the dashboard refresh(present at bottom lefthand corner of the dashboard) - the errors vanish and the reports start running fine. The appearance of these errors are completely intermittent and coming in almost all the reports erratically every now and then.

    OBI Version: 10.1.3.4.1
    RDBMS:11.1.0.7.0
    AWM:11.1.0.7.0A

Any suggestion how to prevent this ?

    Many Thanks,

    create unique index orders_year_show_uq

    alter table orders
    add constraint orders_year_show_uq unique (year, show_order);
When I execute these statement, I get an "SQL Error: ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object".If I clean up and I execute the same statements as above with the only difference on line 2, using "year asc" instead of "year desc":

then it successes.I cannot explain it, do you have any idea? Thanks in advance.Kind regardsGiovanni

DB:3.71:Getting Ora Error 00955 Name Is Already Used By An Existing Object xz

    Hi,

Our application is using dbms_xmlschema.deleteSchema and dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema to un-register and register xml schema in oracle database. The application is calling functions in following way:

    Unregister - dbms_xmlschema.deleteSchema(schemaURL, delete_option = dbms_xmlschema.DELETE_CASCADE_FORCE)

    Register - dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema(schemaURL,schemaDoc,true,false,false,true,false,owner,DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.ENABLE_HIERARCHY_NONE, options = DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.REGISTER_BINARYXML);

where schemaURL, schemaDoc, owner are all defined.

    "!]

As far as I know this job has never completed successfully. About couple of months ago we created a new indexing agent and re-indexed the whole repository and that did not fix the issue.

Does anyone know what the object that already exists might be?

Or have any more ideas how to troubleshoot this issue?

    Thanks

    Hi, everyone
when I deploying table, always failed, get the message of:

ORA-00955:name is already used by an existing object.

actually, I didn't find any same name object in WB_RT_WAREHOUSE_OBJECTS table. What should I do? Many thanks.

DB:3.70:[Help!!!]Ora-00955:Name Is Already Used By An Existing Object s8

This error message means that OWB tried to create an object (in your case a table) in a schema where another object (possibly a table but not necessarily) had the same name. The objects in a schema must be named uniquely - therefore, you can't have a table called 'EMP' if there's a package called 'EMP' etc.

So, to find out what object is causing the problem, I'd connect to your target schema in SQL*Plus and issue the following command:

    SELECT object_type, object_name
    FROM user_objects
WHERE object_name = 'the name of your table in uppercase';That will tell you what object you need to drop in order to get your table to deploy.

The Control Centre Manager cannot drop the object if it thinks it's a table and it's something else so you have to drop it manually.

    Cheers,

    Bryan.

How do I "drop every object owned by the recovery catalog user "

    Cheers

    Stephen

    **************************************
I am trying to install the recovery catalog after creating it. From the RMAN prompt, I typed CREATE CATALOG. It generated the following errors:
    RMAN-06004: ORACLE error from recovery
database ORA-00955: name is already used by exsisting object.
    RMAN-06433: error installing recovery catalog.

It also displayed an error concerning the archiving process. Please help solve this prolem.
This question posed on 29 July 2004

It looks to me like your Recovery Catalog was at least partially installed. If you are sure that this recovery catalog is not in use, you can sign on to the database that holds the recovery catalog and drop every object owned by the recovery catalog user (I'm assuming that this user does not own non-RC objects). Then try to create the RC again

    ***************************************

DB:3.69:Ora-00955: Name Is Already Used By Exsisting Object. Error mp

This can be done by dropping the user itself, i.e. DROP USER catalog_owner CASCADE .
Then recreate the user and try CREATE CATALOG again. As mentioned in the metalink note, you should be sure not to delete objects, which are still needed.

DB:3.67:Compilation Errors With Cmp Ejbs In Oc4j zc

I have created several new EJB's in JDeveloper using the
EJB creation wizard. For most of them I chose the CMP Entity Beans from Tables wizard. Now I have already created some EJB's this way and have used them successfully. But for some reason when I try to start my OC4J, I get the following error messages for all my new EJB's:

Error creating table: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object

    Why is this?

DB:3.67:Compilation Errors With Cmp Ejbs In Oc4j zc

The out-of-the-box behaviour of OC4J is to try to create tables for CMP beans when they are deployed. It sounds like a redeployment may be occuring bwhen you restart OC4J which is causing it to try and create the tables.

I think that even though you see these error messages, the container will start and your beans will function.

You can do one of two things to alter this situation if you want

    a) manually drop the tables from the db before you do the next deployment
    b) set the default behaviour of OC4J to drop tables when an application is undeployed (which happens before a redeployment is done) -- this can be done by setting an additional attribute on the j2ee/home/config/application.xml file -- "autodelete-tables=true"

You can not create, for the same user, tow objects with the same name, even if the two objects are not the same type.

well, this message means, that there is already an object in the
database, that has the name you choose for your temporary table.
this object can be of any type (not necessarily a table).

    Hi !

I was trying to create a constraint on a table after dropping it just in case:

    );

    OUTPUT: ALTER TABLE NEQResultByChunk
    *
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object

There has to be somethink hang somewhere since using a different name works for the constraint works ok. I could not find this constraint in user_constraints table.

Any idea on where to look for it ?
I already brought dow the DB.

    Thanks,

Why should i delete the index manually?
In most cases, the index will be remove when i delete the corresponding constraint.

    kumar,

you cannot make the warnings disappear. To get more understanding of the warnings, it would be a good idea to see the code under each warning and then analyze what that code is trying to do.

    DB:3.54:Cannot Resolve Ora-00955 Error. 7s

I have a script which I run to drop and create preferences, set attributes and drop and create a context index. When dropping and creating preferences and setting the attributes everything works fine and I get the standard messages.
My problem is I get the
ORA-00955 name is already used by an existing object
even after seeing the messages "index dropped" and index created.
I have checked the ctx_user_index_errors view and the timestamps are from when I approximately ran my script so it seems the index worked.

I have tried prefacing the index name with the schema name both when dropping and creating the index and I have even tried to use the keyword "force" when trying to drop the index, yet I still get the ORA-00955 error.
A snippet from my code is below:

PROMPT 23 DROP oracle text context index
    DROP INDEX schema1.my_index;

PROMPT 24 CREATE the oracle text context with the above preferences and attributes
    CREATE INDEX schema1.my_index ON docs(doc_contents)
    INDEXTYPE IS ctxsys.context
    PARAMETERS('DATASTORE docs_data_store
    FILTER CTXSYS.INSO_FILTER
    FORMAT COLUMN oracle_text_format_column
    LEXER docs_lexer
    STOPLIST CTXSYS.DEFAULT_STOPLIST
    SECTION GROUP docs_group
    SYNC(ON COMMIT)' )
    /

    DB:3.54:Cannot Resolve Ora-00955 Error. 7s

I think my problem was I really had a semi colon and a a foward slash at the end of the file, hence there was attempt to create the index twice, once for when the command was ended with a semicolon and once with the foward slash. I just removed the slash and everything worked fine.

    One more quick question....
If table A has a foreign key of the identifier of table B, can i just put a REF in table A's type definition to table B? or do i need to include a foreign key constraint in table A's table definition aswell?

I got a solution, will be helpful to others i guess :)

    you can check below link

    http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/oracle-architecture-configuration/changing-windows-hostname-and-oracle-enterprise-manager/

it works!! but i have doubts...(as I configured on my local machine)
    1)
is it advisable to edit a "System32" file? (Change the C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file by adding this line beneath the default localhost line (for the new Hostname value):127.0.0.1 localhost
    172.16.113.128 mclaughlin11g mclaughlin11g.techtinker.com)

    2)
Reboot the machine to set the networking. (reboot Production server?)

Will give an update(clear) about my doubts.. :)

    With Solution ;)

Yes, if you want to change the host name then need to reboot the machine
for changes to be effective. But, it's not advisable to change the entries of host file for an active
    production database unless required.

    1. Create a snapshot on the table which can not be dropped using the 'on

    create materialized view test on prebuilt table as select ... ;
    2. Drop the snapshot
    3. Drop the table

I found this on metalink. I hope it solves your issue.

I don't think anyone not mentioning a version can expect someone responding is going to outline all version differences. To be honest, not mention the Oracle version shouldn't be a big difference on such question.
Anyway, maybe next forum version will purpose a mandatory field about the version.

Youw problem is caused by the semi-colon (;) with which you close the create statement and the "/" on the last line. The combination of these characters causes the statement to execute twice. So you can either remove the slash or the semi-colon and your script should run perfectly.

I have dropped a dimension and table using Deployment Manager, and deleted the respective objects from the Project view. When I try to recreate them using the same names and Deploy, I get the error "ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object". How can I regenerate these objects using the same names?

    DB:3.36:Drop/Create Table/Dimension dz

In that case you would have to upgrade the dimension instead of dropping/creating (set the deployment action to upgrade in deployment manager). Another option would be to disble the constraints before droping/recreating the dimension and reenable after.

DB:3.28:Ora-00955: Name Is Already Used By An Existing Object Sys_Export_Table_05 1s

    Hello All,

I am using Oracle 11g R2 I have 6 export datapump jobs that runs at 7:00 am.

One of these jobs returned the below error, only on one day knowing that it runs each day:

    ORA-31626: job does not exist
ORA-31633: unable to create master table "OPS$ORACLE.SYS_EXPORT_TABLE_05"
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 95
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.KUPV$FT", line 1020
ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing objectwhat could be the reason ? is it because all the jobs runs at the same time ? at 7:00 am exactly ?

    Regards,

DB:3.28:Ora-00955: Name Is Already Used By An Existing Object Sys_Export_Table_05 1s

    Yes,

If you don't specify a job_name, then you will get a data pump system generated name. It does like this:

    SYS is always first
    EXPORT, IMPORT, SQLFILE, is second
FULL, TABLE, SCHEMA, or TRANSPORTABLE is third
then a number, 01, 02, etc. It looks for the next number not used.

So, if you start multiple jobs at the same time, the same code could determine that SYS_EXPORT_TABLE_05 is not used and try to use it. One will beat out the other.

If you were to name your jobs with unique names, maybe the table that is being exported, then you would not run into this problem.

I am hearing more and more that users are running multiple jobs at the same time. Have you tried using a single job with parallel? If so, why have you chosen this method? Just curious.

    Thanks

    Dean
