I'm getting an error trying to log into VC -- Cannot connect to host ..... ; No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Also on the host itself, the VMWare Virtual Center Service starts and stops right away ..... Anyone seen this problem

DB:3.65:Unable To Log Into Virtual Center p8

(Edit: Redundant message. It helps if you read ALL the replies before responding Sorry about that. I'm leaving my input for reference.)

As per VBDINO, you need to take a look at the VirtualCenter logs to determine what is going wrong here. The most common cause is usually database connectivity issues, but port conflicts are also a possibility (though less likely if the installation worked before.)

The logs are stored in C:\Windows\Temp\vpx. Look for the log file with the latest timestamp - the one with the highest "number" isn't necessarily the latest. There should be an error message towards the end of the log file.

If the error message is related to the database (typically, anything that includes the word "ODBC"), make sure that the SQL instance hosting the VC database is up and running.

(Note that if you're using VC 2.5, the log files are located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\Logs.)

I have a host on a private IP Address, managed by a Virtual Center Management Server. Im trying to remote into the Virtual Center Server through the Virtual Center Client. This works when I open up the port 905 on my firewall. And Im able to view the VMs and the hosts managed by it too.

But when I try to connect to the consoles of the VMs, it gives me an error saying "Cannot connect to host. The Socket operation was attempted to an unreachabl host"

    I even tried setting

    vmauthd.server.alwaysProxy=TRUE

    at

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\config.ini

And also opened up ports 902 on my firewall.

    Thanks

When the VC Client tries to connect to the VMWare Server through the VC Server (v1.4), it opens another TCP session where it tries to connect to the VMWare server (on the private IP) directly, as :902. THis is something I hoped to avoid through the settings "vmauthd.server.alwaysProxy=TRUE".

DB:3.51:Listing The Virtual Center For A Given Host ja

Ok, I am sure I am missing something very easy here so I will throw it out and see if any one can help.

I am trying to do a report on my hosts listing number of processor sockets, cores, virtual machines, parent cluster, and parent virtual center.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to find the virtual center.

I am connecting to multiple virtual centers like this connect-VIServer -Server Denver.myorg.com,Chicago.myorg.com, Savannah.myorg.com

DB:3.51:Listing The Virtual Center For A Given Host ja

    Hello-

Mm, not quite. In the hash table that is the calculated property, there are two (2) key/value pairs. Like:
    KeyValuenvCentere{($_.ExtensionData.Client.ServiceUrl -replace "http[s]?://", "").Split("/")[0]}

These are used to create a new property for the returned object in the Select-Object statement. Since the VMHost object that is being passed to Select-Object does not have a property named, "vCenter", we can create such a property via a calculated property.

As for the key names, "n" and "e". Those are pre-determine key names: they are short for "name" and "expression". So, the value associated with the "name" key is used for the name of the new property being created. And, the value associated with the "expresssion" key is used to set the value in the returned object of the newly created property, in this case called, "vCenter".

Here's an attempt to illustrate, using a different example:

First, just a normal Select-Object statement with normal properties, no calculated properties:

    PS C:\ Get-Item c:\windows | Select-Object Name,LastWriteTime

    Name LastWriteTime

    ---- -------------

    windows 4/30/2013 11:21:53 PM

But, let's say that, for some reason, you wanted a property named "LastWriteYear" that holds the value of the year field of the last write time of the given item. Using a calculated property, you can add such a property, like:

    PS C:\ Get-Item c:\windows | Select-Object Name,

    LastWriteTime, @{name="LastWriteYear"; expression={[int]$_.LastWriteTime.ToString("yyyy")}}

    Name LastWriteTime LastWriteYear

    ---- ------------- -------------

    windows 4/30/2013 11:21:53 PM 2013

So, in the second example, a new property that did not already exist on the selected item is created: its name is, "LastWriteYear", and its value is gotten by the script block in the "expression", which just takes the LastWriteTime property of the input object, and gets just the Year portion of the date/time item (then makes it an int).

There are further examples on the web, like the post by Jason Helmick: http://www.jasonhelmick.com/2010/11/28/fun-with-calculated-properties-for-reports-2/.

    That help?

You should only be using 1 VC Agent license per host. So you should only be using 2 VC Agents if you only have 2 hosts. You might try restarting the License Manager service on your VC Server to see if it releases those extra licenses.

Also, which version are you on? ESX 3.0.0 and VC 2.0.0 had some issues in some environments of not releasing licenses after an ESX reboot and trying to redeem them again.

Since you had VC 1.4 installed and you went back to VC 1.3. Your GSX server most likely now has a version of vmware-serverd that is not compatible with GSX VC 1.3

I recommend that you uninstall GSX and manually remove any files left in /usr/bin /usr/sbin /usr/lib/vmware..etc that the uninstall may have not have removed.

Skip the above step if GSX is on Windows host.

Now reinstall GSX and see if you can add it back to VC 1.3

The uninstall of GSX will not delete any VM's

    Dear all,

We are using VMware Virtual Infraestructure Client 2.0, and when we try to connect to the Virtual Center Server 2.0.2 we get a message "Cannot connect to host X.X.X.X: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

We just have one Virtual Center Server in our local network.

We review the services and their status is as follows:

    VMware License Server Started

VMware Virtual Infraestructure Web Access Started

VMware Virtual Mount Manager Extended Started

VMware Virtual Center Server Is Continuously Restarting

Also when we try to connect from the server that Virtual Center Server is installed the same error appear.

There are no firewall installed in the server, No changes in username and password....

Any ideas... how to solve it....???

    Thanks in advance....

    Mike,

Thanks a lot for your quick response,

We review the firewall, and all ports were enable and there are not

    blocked ports.

The service of Virtual Center Server was down and we can not get on line

again, so we decide to make a new clean install of the Virtual Center

    Again thanks for your help.

I am getting the following error

"Unable to contact the specified host (SERVERNAME). This might be because the host is not available on the network, there's a network configuration problem, or the Management services on the host are not responding.

ESX host is a 3.0.2 build 52542. Virtual Center is running 2.5 update 4...Update 4 was just applied over the weekend.

What I have tried so far:

I can ping the VC server from the host having the issue by short name, FQDN and IP and vica-versa

Stopped and restarted the vmware-vpxa agent as well as the mgmt-vmware agent

    Rebooted the host

    Restarted Virtual Center.

Installed the upgrade VPXA agent locally on the host (Vmware-vpxa-2.5.0-147697)

Removed the host from VC tried to add it back in

    Plenty of diskspace.

None of this is working for me. This just happened, as I said, we applied Update 4 over the weekend. A colleague of mine was simply trying to register a VM to this host, and it went disconnect.

Ideas...suggestions, up to about 3 hours ago it was FINE!

I was recieving the same error and discovered that I didn't have file and printer sharing enabled and set as an exeption in the firewall. Once that was set I was able to continue normally. That may not be your situation but I hope that it may help others like me who's search ends up here.

DB:3.21:Timeout Waiting For Response From Host c3

I bounced my virtual center server for the first time in a long time. We currently have 2 ESX server hosts. Virtual center is getting "Timeout waiting for response from host" when trying to get to one of them. The host is up. All VM's seem to be OK. I can ping the host from the Virtual Center server. Any suggestions? Short of bouncing the ESX host anyway?

DB:3.21:Timeout Waiting For Response From Host c3

I got through to VMWare support. Aparently the

    dev/sda2 folder is full. It's 2.4GB. When I told

them that the tech said "oops". It should be at

least 10GB. Then why isn't that the default on the

install!!!! I've deleted some log files in

home/vmware and now Virtual Center is working.

Now a biiger question, am I totally screwed? What is

the best way to give it more space? I have a second

server that I can Vmotion to and wipe the first one

out but, will I have the same issue on the second

server if I Vmotion them over?

You're mostly screwed. Best solution is to ensure your environment is well documented and then rebuild the ESX host with the bad (defualt) partitioning. Yes, the out of box default partitioning leaves much to be desired and should be resolved in ESX 3. If you want proper partitioning, you must manually partition and follow VMware and real world best practices for /, /var, /home, /tmp, /vmimages, /boot, /vmkcore, and COS swap

I have a third ESX server coming in in a few weeks.

Can I set that one up correctly, Vmotion the VM's on

ESX1 to that one, wipe out ESX1 and set it up

    correctly then, Vmotion back?

Yep! Now is a good time to update your build document too.

While you're at it, set yourself up good for the migration to ESX3 by creating a /boot partition of over 100MB instead of using the default of 50MB.

You need a virtual center license in addition to your ESX licenses. You can connect the VC client direftly to ESX hosts without licensing VC but if you want to use VC you need a license for it. If you've purchesd one, you can consolidate your ESX and VC licenses to one file on the VMware licensing site.

DB:3.13:How Dows Virtual Center Monitor Cpu? 7m

We have HP OpenView running on our GSX (3.1) server (Windows 2003 SP1). It collects Windows performance counters (perfmon) at 5-minute intervals.

When we look at CPU in OpenView it appears to have plenty of overhead.

But if we look at Virtual Center, it shows several periods of sustained 100% utilization on the host over the same period (24 hours).

Does Virtual Center measure CPU in a way that is more reliable than Windows perfmon counters (which OV collects)?

Trying to figure out which tool (Windows counters, Virtual Center) is more accurate and if we have a problem or not.

    Thanks!

DB:3.13:How Dows Virtual Center Monitor Cpu? 7m

If you have the HPOV agent installed in the VMs then the metrics based on % (%CPU utilization for example) are not going to be accurate. See the whitepaper on timekeeping for some insight:

    http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vmware_timekeeping.pdf

One option to get valid data is to use the HPOV SPI for VMware from nWorks: http://nworks.com/vmware/index.php

This will get all the valid data into OpenView and also give you extensive reporting capabilities from within HPOV (if you use Reporter). If your goal is to get all metrics and reporting done from within HPOV then this SPI is a great way to go.

Forgot to add, you could also compile the MIBs provided by VMware on HPOV, that should give more accurate data as well.

There is a bug in 3.x and it is resolved in 3.5 with proper error message

    Bug in 3.x:

If there is a Virtual Instance running in ESX Server, from the virtual instance if you try to connect the same esx through VI Client, you will get this error and also the virtual instance network connection will go down.

    Solution:

Avoid connecting to ESX Server through the virtual instance which is running on same ESX Server

So I checked the host (both of them actually just to be safe) and both hosts are using ESX Server Standard Licenses licensed for 4 CPU's and "Up to 4-way virtual SMP" is listed under the license type.

I checked the license file on the license server which is located on my Virtual Center server and it looks right.

Try putting a domain admin account for the VMware VirtualCenter service. This is usually the case if the service doesn't start. And putting VC as a vm does work but it is not the preferred method.

To be able to ADD ESX HOSTS and get rid of the "A General Error has occurred: Internal system error", you need to type these commands in the console...

    a) cd /etc/vmware/hostd/

    b) ls (you should see authorization.xml config.xml, env, environments.xml esxinfo.vha and hostsvc.xml

    c) type "mv authorization.xml authorization.xml.old"

This will reset the authentication stamp on the file that is responsible for adding the ESX host to Virtual Center***

    d) restart the vmware management service by typing "service mgmt-vmware restart"

Then ensure the ESX host you are trying to connect is REMOVED, THEN READD it.

    DB:3.08:Problem With Npiv 1x

    Hi,

I am trying to configure NPIV on a virtual machine but can not despite having followed all the steps on several guides on.

    Environment:

    - ESX 3.5

    - SAN EMC CX500 SAN with 4 switches : 2 DS-24m2 and 2 Brocade with ISL

HBAs and SAN switches have NPIV enabled

    1. With Navisphere I created a LUN and I have assigned to StorageGroup which includes the ESX Server host

    2. With Virtual Center, I created a virtual machine to which I assigned the length through a disk RDM.

    3. I made the switch in the SAN zones containing the following WWPN:

    - Virtual machine

    - ESX host

    - Storage Processors

    4. In Navisphere I added manually in the form Initiators WWNN: WWPN assigning as the ESX host that contains the virtual machine

    5. I started the VM

Unfortunately running the command cat / proc / scsi / lpfc / * known to the virtual ports are not created

NPIV Supported: VPIs VPIs used max 16 0

and / var / log / vmkernel is always error

WARNING: SCSI: 745: Failed to Create VPort world for xxxx vmhba1, rescan failed, status = bad0001

Where could the error? I'm crazy for two days and I can not get out.

Another question related more to the problem, you can install a virtual machine as the Emulex lpfc driver on a physical machine? The host that contains the virtual machine has installed two of Emulex HBAs.

I followed the instructions of this post but the problem rispresenta anyway.

    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/mi...Id=1018326

    Thanks

    DB:3.08:Problem With Npiv 1x

Another question related more to the problem, you can install a virtual machine as the Emulex lpfc driver on a physical machine

Installing the driver on the VM will not work. That device isn't actually attached to the VM, it's on the host. NPIV is what you want.

So it's very simple. check the config of the VM, did you enable NPIV AND make Virtual WWN WWP on that VM as well? You need at least 1 of each for the VM.

The Host, the VM (WWN/WWP) and the storage need to be properly zoned. So IF the host can see the VM WILL see it by default, ALL the VM's will unless you specifically keep them out of the zone. A mistake many people make is making a NEW zone for this purpose, but what people don't realize is that NEW zone may override a previous zone.

So SAN1 is in zone DATA. ESX1 is in zone DATA. Now you want to create a zone for VM1. So you create a new zone called DATA2. You add SAN1, ESX1, and VM to this new zone, and THEN you tell the zone ONLY allow these devices, which will knock out the zone DATA.

All you really need is the original zone, add VM1 to it. The SAN will determine which devices can access (and not the switch). That could be part of your problem. Also some vendors need the WWN AND WWP for ALL devices.

In our case I have to zone JUST the WWPN (for the host) and use the WWNN (from the VM) in order to see it, which makes no sense, but that too me a whole day to figure that out. So maybe you did everything right, it could be which zoning you are using.

A general rule is WWPN is for target, WWNN is for sender. So you put WWPN in the switch zoning, and put WWNN on the SAN mapping. Sometimes adding both WWPN and WWNN works, but then others EITHER and NOT both will work, so you may have to manipulate the WW names you used and figure out a good combo.

    Don't you just love Fiber?

It's really not that hard to configure beyond that. Make SURE the ESX host can see that SAN data AND it's not a VMFS datastore.... it MUST be raw!

If this is all correct, zone properly and VM1 (WWN) are visible to the data, then it should work fine.

Using the VI Client, I connect to my Virtual Center server, then add my ESX Host to the inventory. The host remains connected for about one minute, and then changes to a state of "not responding". If I disconnect the host and then reconnect it, the same thing happens after about one minute.

When I check my /var/log/vmware/vpx/vpxa.log files, I see the following errors:

'App' 167164848 error] Failed to bind heartbeat socket

\[2007-03-20 12:07:56.904 'App' 3076440992 error] \[VpxVmdbCnx] Authd error: 514 Error connecting to hostd-vmdb service instance.

I have opened firewall traffic between my ESX Host and VC Server for every tcp and udp port but still no success. I've even tried reinstalling the vpxa agent and VMWare support is no help. I see others have had this problem, but I am unable to find any who have resolved it.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

I've already tried restarting all of those services and restarted the server many times.

How do I go about uninstalling the agent from the ESX host? I had simply copied the esx agent file from my VC Server to my ESX host, and reinstalled it that way. If there is another way, please let me know.

    Thanks.

There is a setting on the VC2 server that you must clear for 2.5.x servers to register correctly. I think it is availabe from the Menu bar and has something to do with unchecking the option "Do not change the host licensing option" or something close to that. I'm working from memory as I am not at work but I had a similar problem.

Given that you are attempting to place a larger then 256GB file onto ESX, you should note that you will need to have a VMFS partition with a blocksize larger then the default 1MB allocated. Please reference the snippet taken from our Maximums guide.

    From the Configuration maximums guide:

DB:3.04:"Unable To Access The Specified Host" Virtual Center Error Msg 1p

Using the VI client to access Virtual Center, I have tried to add hosts using the Add Host Wizard. However, when I enter either the hostname or IP address of the host and the root username and password it just gives me the error message "Unable to access the specified host". This also happens for the Windows 2003 Server I have tried to connect to. What am I doing wrong?

DB:3.04:"Unable To Access The Specified Host" Virtual Center Error Msg 1p

Here are a few specific things to try...

At the console of the ESX host, login with an admin (root) account, then perform the following steps (literal commands, substitute your configuration info for italicized text):

    1) Check the IP Configuration of the Service Console Network Connection, by executing the following command: esxcfg-vswif -l

This command will provide a list of the service console's current network interfaces. Ensure that "vswif0" is present. Then check that "Enabled" is 'true', that "DHCP" is 'false' (assuming that you are using Static IP Address Assignment). Also ensure that the IP Address shown is the correct IP Address/Netmask that you have assigned ot the host.

    2) Check the current Virtual Switch Configuration, by executing the following command: esxcfg-vswitch -l

This command will provide a list of the current Virtual Switch configuration. Ensure that "vSwitch0" is configured and that an uplink is present (usually vmnic0). Under vSwitch0, ensure that the portgroup "Service Console" is present. Note the "VLAN ID" for this portgroup, you will need to reference this later - if you have set '0' then it will not be tagging for a specific VLAN. Note which vmnicX is listed as the uplink.

    3) Check the current Virtual Switch Configuration, by executing the following command: esxcfg-nics -l

This command will provide a list of the current network adapters and their status. Look for the vmnic which was listed as the uplink for the "Service Console" portgroup in step 2 above (usually vmnic0). Check that the Link Status is listed as Up, also verify the Speed and Duplex settings. Check that the speed and duplex settings match the configuration of your switch (try setting the ports to autovnegotiate to start the troubleshooting process). Also note the Description of the adapter (is this the adapter that you intended to use for the Service Console, if so, is this adapter connected to the switch - on the intended switch port, and is the switch port configured correctly? If the "Service Console" portgroup VLAN ID, in step 2 above, was set to something other than '0' - is your switch (port) properly configured to handle network traffic for this VLAN?

    4) After checking all of the above steps, try running some Ping commands to verify connectivity, see below (substitute your configuration info for italicized text):

    a) ping 127.0.0.1

    b) ping yourESXHostIP

    c) ping yourESXHostIPGateway

    d) ping yourVCServerIP

You should be able to at minimum ping the local IP Address of the ESX Host (step two). If you can't ping your gateway, then you do not have connectivity to your network.

If you can ping the gateway, but not the IP Address of the VirtualCenter Server, it is possible that your ESX Host and the VC Server are on two different networks. If this is the case, check that the correct physical network adapter being used for connectivity by the Service Console Connection (vswif0) is physically connected to your network. (I don't know how many times I have verified the configuration of the ESX server and spent an hour troubleshooting, only to find that the client has patched in the wrong physical network adapter to the switch, not understanding which physical network adapter was being used by the service console - see step 3 above). Check the configuration of your Switch (port) - ie VLAN config, etc.

Let me know if you have any questions about the above. There are other things you can do to troubleshoot, but would be too complicated to list all scenarios (obviously), so try the above and post your findings.

    Hello,

I have Cluster in my Virtual Center with 3 ESX Hosts. I am wondering what would happen if I remove one of the hosts from the cluster? Would all the settings, VMs, Network settings will still be on that host when I add it back into the Cluster?

I reason I am asking is that, I want to add another (4th) ESX host to Virtual Center to make use of the Update Manager then remove it afterward. I only have 3 licenses for Virtual Center so only 3 Host can exist at the same time. The 4th ESX is running in another Cluster in Lab Manger which also has 3 Hosts and not manage by Virtual Center. It is a pain trying to patch these manually.

Is this possible? What would be the risks?

    Thanks,

    DB:3.03:Removing A Host From A Cluster ap

Only concern is your 2 other ESX hosts can handle all the VMs, since the 3rd one is in maintenance mode and migrated their VMs to others, make sure it can handle it and add your 4th host quickly and configure HA DRS so it can load balance your resource precisely or migrated manually. Once your Update Manager patcheds 4th host, than do whatever you need.

Looking at your screenshot the ESX host botoesx05 is already connected to the VC instance - it's the host just below the cluster you configured. Out of interest, why didn't you just drag and drop the host into the cluster? Looking at the screenshot you've got the host as disconnected in the cluster but connected just below it.. You might want to remove the disconnected host in the cluster and drag the already connected one in.

DB:3.02:Virtual Center Can't Communicate With Nat Esx Host fx

We have a Virtual Center 2.0.2 Server on our internal network and an ESX 3.0.1 host on our DMZ that we are trying to manage with that Virtual Center.

We opened the necessary ports and are doing NAT to facilitate the communication across the firewall. We opened TCP 27000/27010 for the License Server -- that part appears to work fine. We also opened TCP/UDP 902 between them for Virtual Center.

I'm able to add the ESX host from the Virtual Center; it shows up and I'm able to access the VMs' consoles and whatnot ... but performance data is not showing up. After about 15-30 seconds, the ESX host shows up as disconnected in Virtual Center.

I'm able to ping the internal Virtual Center host from the DMZ-bound ESX host's service console using both its DNS name and its NAT IP address. The problem appears to be that the ESX host on the DMZ is trying to talk to the Virtual Center over UDP 902 using its internal IP address, ignoring the NAT all together. Our network administrator says he sees inbound traffic at the DMZ firewall from the ESX host over UDP 902 trying to connect to the Virtual Center using its internal IP address; that same message appears every 10 seconds and it's obviously being dropped, since it's trying to connect to the internal IP rather than the NAT IP.

We believe that the problem is that the internal host's application layer (Virtual Center) is telling the DMZ host's application layer (ESX) to connect to its internal IP address, hence failing to take the NAT into account.

Has anyone else seen this? Any idea how to fix this from the Virtual Center and/or ESX side?

DB:3.02:Virtual Center Can't Communicate With Nat Esx Host fx

    Hello,

I see two problems... One, your Service Console resides in your DMZ... While the VMs can be in your DMZ, placing the SC in your DMZ is asking for serious trouble. Do you place the door to your Datacenter off your lobby? In effect this is what you have done with the SC. Remember if anyone gets access to your DMZ (which is most likely possible) then they have a good chance of having lots of attack points for the SC and once in the SC, they can access ANY VM on the host or on a LUN connected to the host. If this is dictated by your security team then they truly do not understand ESX and how it is secured.

The 2nd point is that NAT would not be the way to go as you have to have your firewall forward a number of ports back and forth and if your firewall does not support connection tracking (which none do at the moment for VC traffic) you will have the problems you are seeing.

I suggest you remove the SC from the DMZ and place it inside your internal networks, and that will fix both issues.

    Best regards,

    Edward

DB:3.01:Migrating Virtual Machines From Windows 2012 Host To Windows 2012 R Host 1f

This is the behaviour I found when reassociating a Hyper-V 2012 host with a 2012 R2 VMM server after attempting to reassociate with the same error as above.
    1. In SCVMM 2012 SP1 I removed the record of the Hyper-V host from SCVMM (remove option not delete)
    2. I found this uninstalled the SCVMM agent on my host Hyper-V server but left the SCVMM DHCP component which I then manually removed.
    3. I then re-ran my failed task in SCVMM 2012 R2 which installed the agent, imported configured logical networks and VM Networks from the Hyper-V host.
    4. Started managing hosts in SCVMM 2012 R2.

I have successfully joined an ESX host to my Virtual Center, but my two hosts running on W2K3 return authentication failure. I have tried the local administrator credential and a domain administrator credential, but neither is accepted. Any suggestions on the type of credential it is looking for?

Can you run virtual machine without beeing visible through virtual center or directly on host with vi client ?

    regards, Matjaz

I was thinking of it, but somehow I do not see how it would be possible

If they are Windoze machines, then you can hide them from workgroup visibility if you have shares accessible, then can also hide them

DB:3.01:Cannot Add Host To Virtual Center pa

    Hello,

I have a new installation of Virtual Center, with licensing server configured on the same host. Running great!

I have just finished installing ESX Server 3.0 on a new server. Runnin Great!

I am now trying to add the new host to Virtual Center using the VI client. Not so greate.

I can get through the 'Add Host' wizard, then after confirming the settings, etc, I get the following error:

"There are not enough licenses installed to perform the operation"

The Admin - Licenses tab in the VI client show that I have 16 remaining licenses for ESX Server Standard out of 16 total.

This is the evaluation version, which I just downloaded 7/31.

I need to get this going to do some validation testing to finish winning over some senior devs, once this is done we'll be BUYING!

    Any idea what's going on?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    DB:3.01:Update Manager Error 8d

For the past few days, I keep getting this error in Virtual Center while trying remediate a host:

"Your session with the VMware Update Mangager Server is no longer valid. The VMware Update Manager Client plugin will be unloaded from the VI Client."

This occurred this morning when it was about 60% throught the Ciritical updates (I was not doing the non-critical.)

Any idea of what's causing this? I can add the plug-in back in, but VC still thinks it's trying to remdiate even though it's not. The "Scan for updates" and "remediate" options are now grayd out for the host. Virtual Center now has to be rebooted to get it back to where I can run Update Manager.

btw, this is Virutal Center 2.5 and the hosts are 3.5

    DB:3.01:Update Manager Error 8d

I get the same error once a day, but don't know the cause. I've seen a bunch of post with user having the same issue too.

You can try stop/starting the virtual center service to avoid a reboot.

DB:3.01:Must Trade Ip For Vcenter And Host ms

    Hello!

Please, I need to trade the IP adresses for virtual center and esx host.

My Virtual Center IP is 92.128.110.58

My ESX Host IP is 92.128.110.57

I need to trade them, turning my cenario in the following configuration:

    Virtual center: 92.128.110.57

    ESX Host: 92.128.110.58

PS. My virtual center is a Virtual Machine inside the ESX host that I want to trade the IP.

Any ideas in how to do this without mess my virtual center(virtual machine) and my esx host?

    Thanks a lot.

    Carlos.

DB:3.01:Must Trade Ip For Vcenter And Host ms

Probably to make things easier I would remove the ESX host form VC - use the VI client and connect directly to your ESX host and power down you the VC VM - Change the IP Address of the ESX host - you can do this by lmodifying the properties of the vmkernel port on vSwitch0 - you can modify the vm as well form but I would make sure it is connected to an internal switch until you change the IP address -

DB:3.00:Vi Client Cannt Connect To Host 1x

    Hi all!

I am new with VMWARE. We have installed VI Server on the same computer running VMWARE Server....

During Virtual Center Server installation, I have specified the following ports to be used:

    VI Web Service https: 4443

    VI Web Service HTTP: 8080

    Virtual Center Port (TCP): 9902

    Virtual Center Hearbeat (UDP):9902

I have stopped the following VMARE Server Services:

    Registration Service

    Authorization Service

in order to avoid problems with Virtual Center.

When I connect using VI Client, I get the following error:

Cannot connect to host \[IP ADDR]. No se ha podido establecer la conexion porque el equipo destino ha denegado activamente dicha conexion (target host refused connection)

I dont know If it is possible to install Virtual Center with VMWARE Server.

    And...

How VI Client knows the Virtual Center connection port???

Which is the problem with my VI Client???

Thanks in advance and best regards

DB:3.00:Vi Client Cannt Connect To Host 1x

The problem is I have changed ports in installation of VC Server.

If ports are changed, I can imagine you have to indicate VI Client ports are not default ports...

Of course, the first of all before asking the forum is pinging the server and ensureing VC Server service is running....

It's almost always DNS. Try selecting your destination server by IP address or fully-qualified server name.

DB:3.00:Vmware Api For Creating An Deleting Disk Via Vcenter c9

I am working on a C# application and trying to execute the tasks of creating and deleting the virtual disks, when the stated host is being managed by vCenter.

    But getting an error as:

    VimApi.NotImplemented

and The requested operation is not supported by the server.

Is this the case, wherin the creation and deletion of virtual disks is not suported via Center or is there a way around ?

DB:3.00:Vmware Api For Creating An Deleting Disk Via Vcenter c9

    Hi,

It seems you are using VirtualDiskManager managed object to create/delete disks. Currently, VirtualDiskManager is not implemented on VC and is only available when connected to ESX directly.

As a workaround you can create new disks and delete the existing disks corresponding to VMs by making use of ReconfigVM_task API, and set the required props in the VirtualMachineConfigSpec.

    I hope this helps!

    Angela.
