    DB:4.35:Obtaining A List Of Column Names In Omb Plus s3

    I have to add several operators to about 120 mappings and am trying to learn OMB Plus in hopes that it might be able to save time (and my eyesight/sanity;-). However, each mapping operates on different tables, each with their own unique set of columns. This list of columns needs to be added to a GROUP BY property of an aggregator.

    Is there a way to obtain a list of table column names in OMB so I can assemble this GROUP BY list? So far, I haven't been able to find one.

    I am using 10.2.0.1

    thanks

    DB:4.35:Obtaining A List Of Column Names In Omb Plus s3

    OWB has these experts that are like macros in Word and you can add actions on to the tree for example (or run them individually), so the Build from SQL is created by you when you install the expert (through the MDL on the blog). This expert is a plaything though, but an interesting one for folk to learn OWB map construction who know SQL. It uses a SQL parser that you would have to download and install.

    DB:3.44:Omb Scripting Problem az

    Hello.
    I am having a problem with OWB scripting.
    I am finding it very difficult to work with SQL Server source objects.
    I have setup my ODBC connex and imported the pure source table definitions into OWB. That bit is fine.

    The source has table names in Mixed case, and the columns are also mixed case.

    I am finding that the OMB Plus table copy command can not cope with the following cases.

    1. Copy source table say TableOne to MS_TABLEONE will not work. Generates an error in scripting.

    2. Straight copy Copy TableOne to TableOne in STG module. But OWB has internally converted TableOne into TABLEONE.

    But trying to use OMB Alter Table Rename will not work either, cant find the table. Very strange and I suspect I may have found a bug.

    Having given up on table copy revert to manual table create, BUT having used OMB Create table, gone and got the source table column list. Yup you guessed it the column name returned from OMB Retrieve table TableOne GET COLUMNS can not be used to actually retreive the column...ARRGGHH!

    Has anyone done anyscripting with handling Mixed Case Table Names, and columns?

    OH and of course these scripts work just fine and dandy on a sensible Oracle objects. The mixed case table and column names seem to be throwing OWB scripting.

    I guess I can try to work with the column seq nbr but I dont like my chances...

    Various OMB Plus stuff follows...

    Looking forward to being enlighted on how to fix this issue.

    Cheers,
    Richard Harrison.

    Hi all.

    Well while it has been fun and a great learning experience I have given up on this problem. By simply going through and renaming each table in the gateway module (sqlserver odbc connx) via the front end, whereby I convert the mixed case table name to upper the problem is solved (or more correctly worked around).

    In order to help you all get going with scripting and java api here is some info. A snippet of TCL code to call the java api and do a table copy. This copies a gateway module table to a oracle module table.

    In a JDev 10.1.3 project in an entity object's impl, how can you lookup the underlying table's structure, i.e. schema qualified table name, column names, primary key name?

    The code:

    displays the entity object name, for example, but I need the physical structure information.

    OMBCC is only for folder objects (such ad projects and modules), mappings are not folders. If you want to get mapping details you can use OMBRETRIEVE MAPPING command.

    For example;

    I thought I remembered seeing an add-on from MS or someone providing AMO functionality against AS2000

    Actually there is one cirumstance where it goes the other way that you may be thinking of.
    If you migrated a database from 2000 to 2005/2008 (and did not touch it with the 2005/2008 designers) it will stay in a hybrid sort of mode where you can still access it using DSO, but I have not really seen anyone doing that. As soon as you use AMO or
    the designers to make any changes the database will go into full 2005/2008 mode and it will no longer be accessible using DSO.http://geekswithblogs.net/darrengosbell - please mark correct answers

    The problem with MDL export/import is that it generally retains the project name / module name metadata and so will re-import back to where it was. You could do a workaround like

    1.) Rename the TARGET_PROJECT to TARGET_PROJECT_BAK
    2.) Rename the SOURCE_PROJECT to TARGET_PROJECT
    3.) Do your MDL exports
    4.) Rename TARGET_PROJECT back to SOURCE_PROJECT
    5.) Rename TARGET_PROJECT_BAK back to TARGET_PROJECT
    5.) Do your mdl imports

    I have a script that does something similar to this to do full project copies when I'm splittin goff a new version. And I have to do it object by object because we work in a shared environment that I can't lock down into Single_User_mode to do full project imports.

    Hi @all,

    If i import a .mdl File into OWB with omb i use

    OMBIMPORT MDL_FILE '$mdlfile' USE REPLACE_MODE MATCH_BY NAMES \
    ALLOW_DIFFERENT_BASE_LANGUAGE OUTPUT LOG TO '$mdlimplog'
    in my script.

    i only want to deploy the objects in this .mdl-file. I don't know what's the content of this file.

    Is there a feature with OMB to say "Deploy only the objects that are in this .mdl-file without knowing the content" ?

    Thanks in advance

    DB:2.72:Import Via Omb 33

    You can not deploy what is in a mdl file. You can however save your deployment to an xml file and use that as your deployment.

    The command for the deployement is:
    OMBDEPLOY SPECIFICATION FROM 'C:\project.xml'

    We are using collections to export to mdl file and create a deploy xml file which I then use OMBPlus to import and deploy.

    So for OMB all is OK, but if I try to generate the mapping a warning appears: Couldn't generate Merge statement. So, opening the mapping using OWB, I discover that, though in the left panel appear correctly as MATCH_BY_CONSTRAINT the primary_key, opening the popup window of the constraint, NO_CONSTRAINT is selected!
    Changing manually it, the mapping is correctly generated....

    How it's possible??

    Thanks for any help

    DB:2.69:Can't Set Match_By_Constraint Properties Using Omb 3j

    I think the dialog displaying no constraint is just a UI bug (which does not impact the cannot generate merge issue), the same happens in the UI when you setup the match by constraint stuff. What other details are defined in the error message for why the merge could not be generated, this will be the root of the problem.

    Hi Doug,
    Thanks for your reply.
    However i am sorry that i forgot to mention earlier,
    the names in Column B may have some extras which are not in Column A
    I need to keep those names.....
    Basically A and B both are equally important columns and both are like sets with some names in common, and some of their own exclusively.
    At the moment I am just creating a macro, which will replace (ctrl H) those names in Column B with same format like Column A.
    I am going through all names individually like below........
    Sub Macro1()
    Cells.Select
    Application.DisplayAlerts = False
    Selection.Replace What:=smith, a, Replacement:= _
    smith, alan, LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, _
    MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False, ReplaceFormat:=False

    Selection.Replace What:=smith, p, Replacement:= _
    smith, peter, LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, _
    MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False, ReplaceFormat:=False
    End Sub
    I have over300 names like this.
    I pick one name from column A, find (ctrl F) it in column B using different parts of the name, and once found, i put them both in above code.
    I am tired.
    And then What if some more people will join at a later date in either column
    thanks for reading, really!!

Please advice if anyone know the steps that takes place once we call a mapping using OMB viz. connecting to oracle, running the actual mapping package etc. etc.. we have to identify as to why there was a difference of 16 minutes between creating the log file and the actual creation time of mapping in the wb_rt_audit table.

    Hi,

    On a target table you can set the loading properties. I know how to set them in the mapping editor, but I want to be able to set them with OMB

    I'm looking for the name of the attribute loading properties (ie Load column when inserting row, match column when updating row) and the statement to set them.

    I'm able to retrieve the update operation:
    OMBRETRIEVE MAPPING '$mapName' OPERATOR '$operator' GROUP '$group' ATTRIBUTE '$attribute' GET PROPERTIES (UPDATE_OPERATION)

    DB:2.67:Omb Target Table Attribute Loading Properties z9

    hi again,

    Don't bother anymore. The name of the propertie for the attribute is the complete string. I.e

    OMBRETRIEVE MAPPING '$mapName' OPERATOR '$operator' GROUP '$group' ATTRIBUTE '$attribute' GET PROPERTIES (LOAD_COLUMN_WHEN_INSERTING_ROW)

    Finally I'm able to do an automated creation of all mappings, sequences, transformations etc. from an imported source definition to an operational data store with slowly changing tables. With about 200 source tables this saves me a huge amount of time to create all this relatively simple mappings. Still one flaw...the scripts aren't able to handle a compound primary key

    the issue we are facing is sometimes OMB tends to skip logging every MDL import detail. We have about 15 Oracle modules and it has skipped 2 modules in the detailed log even though it has imported all the objects correctly into the design center and also has created the $log_file/yyy.log file in the correct location

    The behaviour is very sporadic across modules but consistent since the last two runs.

    Does anyone know if there is a known limitation with OMB with respect to logging?

    Cheers

    DB:2.66:Omb Erratic Logging m3

    Hi David

    No. One file at a time Each MDL file is a mapping with all of its dependencies included during export and there are about 1000+ such MDL files/mappings across 10-15 Oracle modules.

    The latest run produced a proper log file but the one before that did not. The logging is inconsistent.

    This is of course apart from the issue we are having with OMB trying to create the DB link everytime we try to deploy a mapping which uses DB connectors across databases/modules. Forum post :Avoiding creation of DBlink during deployment of mappings using OMBPlus

    I've verified that the same locations exist on both databases. I've even tried using the OMBREGISTER LOCATION syntax to register my source and target but this results in the same error. Could anybody tell me what's missing from the syntax and error above?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    DB:2.64:Error During Deployment Using Omb- 5312? fz

    The message seems to indicate that you have not registered the locations related to the deployed objects. Registering a location is adding physical info to the logical location entity. In other words, if you have a location called LOC_ORDER_ENTRY as a source, at deployment time you will be asked to provide the user name, password, host name and port number of the database conataining the schema.
    The same happens when you do it from the UI, the first time you are deploying, you will be prompter to register the location you will be working in the runtime.

    The location should be registered by using the OMBREGISTER command. An example could be (for the above LOC_ORDER_ENTRY location):

    OMBREGISTER LOCATION 'LOC_ORDER_ENTRY' SET PROPERTIES (HOST, SERVICE, SCHEMA, PASSWORD) VALUES ('sunhost','oe_db','oe','oepwd')

    Hi,

    I'm starting to play around with OMB Plus which is part of OWB. I have written scripts within OMB Plus, but looked at the concept of using JDeveloper to write/run scripts...I think it would be much better than the OMB PLUS console.

    For Reference, OWB is installed in "C:\orant_owb9i" and Jdev is installed in "C:\orant_dev9i".

    Now in the OMB Plus documenation it explains how to set up OMB Plus within JDeveloper. I have copied the "OMBPlus_jdev.jar" file to my Jdeveloper directory. started Jdeveloper, went into Tools-Preferences-OMB Plus-OMB Plus Installation, defined my directory where OWB is installed "C:\orant_owb9i", shut down Jdeveloper, start it back up, then all the options that I'm supposed to have available in Jdeveloper for OMB Plus are not found anywhere.

    Am I missing a step somewhere?

    You can do that using sharepoint designer. You need to create a custom page to display the list data.

    Steps :

    1. Create a blank aspx page.
    2. Add data view.
    3. Add the columns from the list which you want to display.
    4. Hide the toolbar [Common data view tasks data view properties general and uncheck the toolbar option]
    5. Goto to code view mode and comment the line where column names are mentioned.
    6. Attach a masterpage.

    Please let me know if this helped you.

    The UNIX-based OMB*Plus client supports the "ls" command for listing files in the current (OS) directory.

    Does the Windows-based OMB*Plus client have a similar command? I've tried both "ls" and "dir" without any luck.

    I'm using version 11.2.0.2 of the Windows OMB*Plus client.

    Thanks.

    DB:2.63:Omb*Plus Command To List Files In Current Directory c1

    Use the tcl commands to get platform independence, so for example you can use
    glob *
    to list all files or
    glob *.xml
    to get all XML files in directory.

    See below for details of the glob command
    http://www.tcl.tk/man/tcl8.4/TclCmd/glob.htm

    You will have to use cd to change directory as I think the version of TCL used is older and doesn't support the -directory directive on the glob command.

    DB:2.63:Matching Column Field Name To A Row Value And Pulling In A Different Value From The Same Row dc

    I have 1000 columns. The first column is a list of codes. The second is a list of names. The remaining 998 columns have a distinct name from the list of names in the rows of the second column. They have blank values, i.e are unpopulated.

    What I am trying to do is loop through the 998 column names, and see if the column name matches with the name in the rows of the second column. If it does match, I want the program to populate that row/column intersection (cell) with the code in column 1.

    Any thoughts on how to do this in EG?

    This would be simple to do in Excel (see attached), but I can't figure it out here - I'm new to this s/w.

    Any thoughts?

    For some reason my reply has been mixed up with another thread.

    You can use PROC SCORE to do it but you will need to rearrange your data slightly.

    data a; input col1-col3; cards; 4 7 9 run; proc transpose data=a out=a2 prefix=P; var col1-col3; run; proc transpose data=a2 out=a3; by _name_; id _name_; var p1; run; data a3; retain _type_ 'SCORE'; set a3; _name_=cats('P',_name_); run; data b; input col1-col3; cards4; 5 10 129 12 816 1 7;;;; run; proc score score=a3 data=b; var col1-col3; run;

    Following OMB code sets the max error limit of a mapping.

    OMBALTER MAPPING 'MAP_DATA' SET PROPERTIES (MAXIMUM_NUMBER_OF_ERRORS) VALUES ('100')

    i dont want to hard code the value 100 rather i want this value to be returned from a function.

    If it is not possible then plz tell me how can i set MAXIMUM_NUMBER_OF_ERRORS property of OWB mapping via sql or pl/sql.

    Any type of clue will be highly appreciated.

    Best Regards

    DB:2.62:Calling Oracle Function In Omb Script fm

    If you are attempting to run a query, then this likely indicates a syntax error in the statement you are running.

    If you are attempting to run a pl/sql function then you need to use different syntax.

    e.g. (if memory serves, instead of my oracleQuery proc you would make your connection and then call)

    set oraStatement [ $oraConnect prepareCall "{ call yourProcedure }" ]
    [$oraStatement execute]There is different syntax to use depending on if the procedure has parameters, or - in the case of a function - to receive a return value

    e.g.
    { call yourProcedure(?, ?, ?) }
    or
    { ? = call yourFunction(?, ?, ?) }

    and then you need to bind in your variables using registerInParameter and registerOutParameter

    go look at a tutorial on jdbc to get some general syntax, and then you'll need to figure out how to get it all working from TCL.

    It has been a looooooooooooooooooooooooong time since I've played with this, but I DID use this library as the basis for executing some procedures in the past.

    Hi all,

    I have created some dimensions in the OWB client, that map straight 1-on-1 to a table. Those dimensions have only 1 level 'TOTAL' and no hierarchies.

    I am trying to create those dimensions using an OMB script, but it seems that when I bind the dimension level to a table, it =expects= me also to bind hierarchy levels to the table! However I have (dont want/need) a hierarchy?!

    The error message is:

    LEVEL_ATTRIBUTE ...

    After the LEVEL_ATTRIBUTEs the statement ends, so I say nothing about any hierarchies.

    Just like in the UI, you can't deploy a process flow individually in OMB+. You need to create a deployment action plan for the package that contains the process flow and deploy this.

    DB:2.59:Problem In Copying A Mapping From Omb+..Soln Needed Asap kd

    found the solution..
    Its the problem with length of the mapping name.
    When its copying, OWB generates a new mapping prefixed with 'COPY_OF_' to the original mapping name and then renames it.
    In the above case, Its exceeding the limit and therefore abbreviating the copied mapping to 'COPY_OF_M_STG_BP_AP_INTL_SUBS_1'
    and when trying to rename the mapping, its unable to find the object.

    Soln...limit the mapping names to 18-20 characters to allow copying from OMBPLUS.

    On a side note, you would have an easier time if you stored
    the first, middle and last names in separate fields. That is
    assuming you have control over the db. If not, you could use the
    technique mentioned to treat the values as a space delimited list.
    The technique won't be perfect. But the code should at least handle
    special cases like this

    John Edward Morgan III (the name contains 4 parts)
    J.P. Adams (first and middle are not separated by space)
    Michael Russell (no middle name or initial)

    ie. Every name may not have exactly 3 parts delimited by a

    Hi Carsten,

    Thanks for your reply.

    I suspect that OMB+ was unable to retrieve these hints due to the language property of the mappings holding the value 'UNDEFINED'. I have changed those values for all mappings to 'PL/SQL' sometime last week, but never retried retrieving the hints. It does work correctly now though, for all mappings.

    Kind regards,

    DB:2.58:List Or Column Of Names On The Computer jc

    hi, how can i type a list or column of names? i`m a newbie with the computer so would appreciate easiest way if thats possible. thanks

    DB:2.58:List Or Column Of Names On The Computer jc

    You can get the functionality of Microsoft Excel (as well as several of the other Microsoft Office products) for FREE by getting OpenOffice at
    www.openoffice.org. What you want to do can be done with the equivalent programs of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or Microsoft Access (but the latter may be more than you need and Access is a pretty
    sophisticated program to use properly- and all of these have equivalent programs in OpenOfffice). I personally prefer Microsofrt Office because I have become familiar with its design from using it since it first came out and trust it to function better with
    Vista since it's made by Microsoft- but there's absolutely nothing wrong with OpenOffice if you want essentially the same functionality (and again, if's free) This will give you the best options (the programs that come with Vista like Notepad and Wordpad
    are fairly basic and may not accomplish all you want to do with the lists once they are complete).

    If you use Calc (the OpenOffice equivalent of Microsoft Excel) to make trhe list, you can split the names into first names and last names and add all sorts of other columns of information which can be sorted just about any way you desire. With some effort,
    you can even use this to create envelopes and mailing labels (though Write {the OpenOffice equivalent of Microsofr Word) would be a better choice because of its mail merge capabilities). As a new user, I would give OpenOffice a try and if you like it and
    want to try the Microsoft Versions, rhere are free trial versions of Office available for download
    http://us1.trymicrosoftoffice.com/default.aspx(I believe they last for 60 days) and see if you want to pay for the Microsoft product rather than use OpenOffice for free.

    Good luck and I hope this helps!

    Hi all

    I'm trying to generate a list of TestStand variable names from Labview, based on some example code I found in the Dev zone http://sine.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/3086but running into trouble.I was expecting the routineto outputa completename, but it only returns thefirst part, for example

    StationGlobals.TS

    and not

    StationGlobals.TS.LastUserName
    StationGlobals.TS.CurrentUser.LoginName
    StationGlobals.TS.CurrentUser.Password
    etc

    I've managed to retrieve these using extra loops, but since there could be anynumber of subproperties ina variable name, it suggests the routine needs to be recursive, and that's where I come unstuck.

    Is there anyway of doing this without using recursion?

    Select all the text and set up tabs on the ruler where you want the 2 columns to appear.

    Search on the space between the "John" and "Smith" and replace it with a tab.

    You can now copy and paste this into a Numbers table and it will fill the appropriate columns.

    And if the entry is John Broadus WATSON you will get an odd result !

    Hi All,

    We have developed 125 mappings across 10 modules. I wanted all mappings .Mdl files separately (E.g : we have mapping names are abc and xyz we need to mdl file abc.mdl and xyz.mdl).

    If I export mappings in Design Center mapping wise it will take alot of to complete/get individual scripts (.mdl)

    I heard for time consuming and security wise we should use OMB plus.

    Any one helps me to export mappings individually through OMB.

    Is there any way to pass mapping name should export the mapping with log file?

    Thanks and Regards
    Venkat

    DB:2.57:Export Mappings Through Omb Plus cz

    OK, here is a script that you will be able to adapt get you to where you want to go. Bear in mind that it uses a config file to hold some variables, and library file which I shall also attach.

    This script isn't exaclty what you are asking, but it's pretty close. The reason I made this script was to be able to create a clone of an existing project through OMB+ becuase in our corporate dev environment I couldn't lock down the repository in exclusive mode to do this in a simple copy/paste. The script uses a bit of a work-around because the MDL files include full path names, meaning if you export from project A it will want to import into project A. So if I want to import them into project B I take the existing project A, rename it to the desired new name (B), do the export (on a per-unit basis as you want), then rename the existing project back to what it was (A), create the new empty project (B) and import the objects now that the naming structures will match. (whew - did you catch all that?)

    Anyway, here is the script. It uses standard TCL for a lot of the file stuff (glob etc), and for cycling through the modules and objects using the TCL foreach statement. Don't worry about the functions you don't recognize like exec_omb. They are in the library (coming up next), which just has to be colocated with the script for the script to reference at runtime:

    Unable to discovery Oracle Db on Linux machine

    Hi Guys,

    I am not able to discover an Oracle db running on a Linux machine.

    The host discovery is done using the root account

    The DB credential is tested and working fine. Just to rule-out any issues with regards to the DB credential, I have made sure to use both SID and Service Names (created two credentials) and both are successful

    The DBA confirmed that he was able to run the below queries without problems from Oracle client using the same ID used in the DB credential
    Oracle Database Server SID
    Query

    Obtaining a list of Schemas for a SID

    SELECT username FROM all_users ORDER BY username

    Obtaining a list of Tables within a Schema

    SELECT table_name FROM all_tables WHERE owner = %schema%

    Obtaining a list of Tablespaces for a SID

    SELECT * FROM dba_tablespaces

    Obtaining a list of DataFiles within a Tablespace

    SELECT * FROM DBA_DATA_FILES WHERE TABLESPACE_NAME = %tablespace_name%
    Oracle Database Server service_name
    Query

    Obtaining a list of Schemas

    SELECT username FROM all_users ORDER BY username

    Obtaining a list of Tables within a Schema

    SELECT table_name FROM all_tables WHERE owner = %schema%

    Obtaining a list of Tablespaces

    SELECT * FROM dba_tablespaces

    Obtaining a list of DataFiles within a Tablespace

    SELECT * FROM DBA_DATA_FILES WHERE TABLESPACE_NAME = %tablespace_name%

    The ADDM version is 9.01 so I made sure that it is having the right JDBC driver (using ojdbc6.jar based on the info I got from the communities site, I have also tried other versions)

    Yet, the Db is not discovered, there is not even a db related error on the host discovery.

    Regards,

    Mussie

    DB:2.57:Unable To Discover Oracle Db On Linux Machine 7f

    The fact that the lsmod command is failing isn't your issue. The ps command failing is. For some reason it is not expecting the arguments ADDM is passing to it even though it then lists them...

    It is possible that for root user the 'ps' command has an alias which is clashing with the actual command-line args.

    DB:2.57:Help With Column Formula Based On Column Locations? dp

    Hello,

    I have a list of strings that are column names. I want to determine their column location(i) in a data table and then add a new column with the formula( Column( i ) + Column( i+1 )). My code looks like this:

    ABCDEF
    1
    23456123456123456

    cols = dt Get Column Names( St

    ring);

    list = { "B", "D"};

    n = N Items( list);

    locate = {}:

    For( i=1, i=n, i++,

    locate[i] = Loc( dt, list[i]);

    New Column( "New", Formula( Column( locate[i]) + Column( locate[i] + 1)))

    );

    I am having trouble because Loc() returns a matrix and Column() can only evaluate a number. I want my final data table to look like this:
    ABCDEFNewNew 212345659123456591234565912345659

    Can anyone help me out?

    Andrea.
    I'd like the total at count at the bottom of the list to say 3. Not 6.
    HELP!

    DB:2.57:How To Count Individual Names In A Column. j7

    The frequency or maximum occurences of your family members could be done with some modifications to the original count sheet like this,

    .. where you input someone's name to B11 and the number of times their name occurs is in C11. In C11 put in this formula
    =MAX(IF($B$2:$B$7=B11,$C$2:$C$7))
    ... and finalize it by hitting CTRL+SHIFT+enter rather than just enter. This is an array formula and needs CTRL+SHIFT+enter in order to perform properly. If it is put in correctly, Excel will wrap it in
    braces (e.g. { and }) like this,
    {=MAX(IF($B$2:$B$7=B11,$C$2:$C$7))}
    .. as in the snipped worksheet above. As far as the last paragraph goes,

    "And then, once I've searched for/sorted by one or two or more names, I'd like to have a percentage show. If I search for everyone in a family, i'd like togive me a percentage that describes this information:"these 5 people in this family account for
    this percentage of the entire community, and they have used this percentage of the entire budget". Does that mane sense?"

    There are too many unexplained pieces of data within this (e.g. percentage of community population without supplying community population) to begin supplying solutions. Perhaps you can post up a full set of sample data with specifics?

    If this proposed solution has resolved your issue(s), please return and mark it asAnsweredfor others to consider.

    In fact, (for people who don't know, maybe there are :) ) dimensions and cubes are called with keyword "DIMENSION_TABLES" and "CUBE_TABLES".
    ex : OMBLIST DIMENSION_TABLES returns all dimension tables of current module.

    says what cell I'm in, and changed it to "Advisors". How do I edit this "Advisors" list after I initially created it?

    Thank You,

    Hi,

    Select the named range Advisors (along with the first row as the header row) and press Ctrl+T. Now go to the cell where you want to create the drop down list and go to Data Validation Allow List and in the source box, tap the F3 key. Select the name
    (Advosors) and click on OK.

    Now whenever you add further rows of data to the Advisory named range, the validation drop down list will keep updating.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks - this works but again my faultfor not being more specific on the requirements.

    Column B is part of aninventory list on Sheet1 thatthe user maintains. This inventory list has a part number assigned in column A that is associated with apart name incolumn B. The user could havesay 5 different part numbers with the same part name
    (example: part number 1 is called"panel", part number 2 is called "panel", etc.).

    I would like a validation list on a cell in Sheet2 that queries the data in "MyList" and lists only the uniquepart names. In other words, thevalidation list would contain"panel" one time, not 5 times.
