DB:4.01:Tcp Error 66, Ghosts Listener sa

    I use a server-client architecture using tcp-ip connections.

If I listen on server for a connection and a client ask for a connection, then I need to close the connection on client.

If the client close for any reason, then the server close the connection and listen again for a new connection on the same port and the same address.

If the client doesn't close the connection, then there is a strange behaviour:

    - if the server doesn't listen, then the client connect to a ghost listener.

    - if the client doesn't ask for a connection, the listener creates a connection and then it receives 66 error.

How could I be robust to a client or server crashes?

DB:4.01:Tcp Error 66, Ghosts Listener sa

I expect that you've run into the same issue which I ran into a few years ago - being somewhat confused by how TCP Listen behaves. Essentially, it creates a "listener" (a concept which isn't really explained anywhere) and as long as that listener exists, the open primitive on the other side will successfully open a connection. That would be your ghost listener. Nathan also helped me understand this back then, so I would suggest following his advice on this.

    DB:3.72:Tcp Error 66 In Tcp Listener s8

    Hi,

I am creating a TCP listener in one of the client PC, After sometime I get TCP error 66 from the TCP listener, and in that case I am trying to re-create the listener with the same socket number but its always timed out and I never get an active connection.

So, can anyone suggest that if the TCP connection is opened in server and the listener loses the connection in the client, for getting an active listener, do I need to close and open the server TCP connection again ?

    DB:3.72:Tcp Error 66 In Tcp Listener s8

First, your termanology is incorrect. In networking servers are the process that listen for connections and clients are processes that connect to a server. You are reversing the roles of your processes.

As for your specific questions you are not doing any error processing which will have the server (what you are calling the client) go back into a listening state for a new connection. Here is some basic code which demonstrates a server which will handle a single connection but will go back and wait for a new connection if the client disconnects or the connection is lost. It also demonstrates some very basic data transfer between the two processes.

Never assign an IP to localhost.localdomain, except 127.0.0.1.

    Run this at shell:
    $ hostname

Then change the second localhost.localdomain to the output of the command, which is your actual hostname. It should look like this:

    # Do not remove the following line, or various programs
    # that require network functionality will fail.
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain
    192.168.106.72 myserver

Then go to $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora and tnsnames.ora and change localhost.localdomain to the hostname (or 192.168.106.72). Restart listener and you're fine.

DB:2.64:Tcp Read Block Error 66 In Labview 2009 xj

I am using URL Get HTTP Document to send C++ code to microcontroller and URL Get Document to read the content of the file that microcontroller creates after the code execution.

This vi was working perfectly in LabView 8.6. Then when we reinstalled Windows XP and installed LabView 2009 the TCP Read block in URL Get HTTP Document displays error 66 and the output Content is empty in both Get Document blocks.

The microcontroller does receive the code and execute it - I see the file with the content through internet browser. It is the TCP read block somehow cannot pass this content back to vi.

Is there a special setting in LabView 2009that has to be changed in order to allow the TCP Read block to work properly?

    Please help me.

DB:2.64:Tcp Read Block Error 66 In Labview 2009 xj

Yes, I can access the microcontroller without Labview: I type in internet browser http://192.168.1.162/test.txt and I see the data that is changing every time I run test. Also the command to execute the C++ code comes to the microcontroller because I see that the microcontroller enable the measurement equipment.

What code do you like to see? The block diagram of my vi? I attached the block diagram picture. Let me know if you want to see the C++ code that is loaded to the microcontroller or something else. I will send you on Monday. I did not run the Simple Data Client.vi yet. I will do it on Monday.

Thank you very much for helping me,

    DB:2.63:Timing Of Tcp Read/Write? kk

    Hi,

I have seen many discussions with similar problems that already solved my problem to some degree. So first thanks for this good forum.

What I am experiencing is a strange timing problem with a TCP conncention between a RT target (CRIO, TCP listener) and a Windows

Laptop with the user interface for the instrument on the CRIO. The Laptop program opens a TCP connection to the CRIO RT system.

Normally, only data from the CRIO is sent to the Laptop (data is updated every second, the TCP loop runs twice as fast to get better

response times). Data is stored in Queues and RT-FIFO's on the RT system before they are sent.

Occasionally, data is sent from the Laptop back to the RT system (user interactions, commands).

The system runs fine, when I first writre to the TCP conncetion on the RT system and only then read for possible commands (both interactions

are within two seperate sub-VI's). Before I had it the other way round, first checking for incoming commands from the Laptop and then send the data.

And this did not work, it always gave me error 56 or 66. I do not understand this, can someone explain to me this behaviour? The timeout on the RT

system is set to 1500 (should be 1.5 seconds), maybe too short? Or does it depend on the order of the commands on the Laptop, too? There I first

read data and then send within the loop. The timeout here is set to 5000. Suggestions on how to improve this?

    Thanks,

    Olaf

    DB:2.63:Timing Of Tcp Read/Write? kk

    additional:

    you said

"Normally, only data from the CRIO is sent to the Laptop" and

"The system runs fine, when I first writre to the TCP conncetion on the RT system and only then read for possible commands (both interactions

are within two seperate sub-VI's). Before I had it the other way round, first checking for incoming commands from the Laptop and then send the data. And this did not work.

So if you first check whats coming in, the result is that Windows notices that no data is returned within a reasonable time, and it closes the TCP/IP connection (did you open the TCP/IP connection already?).

When LabVIEW attempts to communicate after Windows closes the connection, error 66 is the result.

    Best regards

Might have been. I have reconfigured listener.ora several times now and while the first three lines changes (different protocols) the error codes remains the same. I've heard that the listerner wants a DNS on the network (which currently isn't the case) but why it should need that beats me. Try this... telnet to the box you are installing the listener on, to the same port you want the listerner to be one. See if something is on that port. Also are you a root account? If not you might now have access to create a port listener.

    telnet localhost:1521 for example.
If connects somethis is on port. If you get just can not connect and no text back at you then nothing is on that port (or you can not access it)

We have 9 listenres and I verified in listener.ora the names and ports we are currently using in the Production Server.
When I try to create a new listener :
    NAME LISTENER_RSM
PORT 1545 (both are not related in listener.ora)
    PROTOCOL: TCP

    I have the following error:
"The information provided for the tcp protocol is currently in use by other software on this computer. you can proceed ...". The problem is that listener name and port are not being used by any other listener.

Can someone help me with this ?
    Thanks.

Listener is only involved during initial session creation.

If you want a database on your local machine, you would need to install the Oracle database. If you will be connecting to a remote Oracle server, however, you would not need to install the Oracle database.

The database should be installed in a different folder and in a different Oracle Home than the Developer Suite.

I hope you are looking in the 9iAS 1.0.2 doc. The second TCP in example is a typo. The correct configuration example is like the following,
    LISTENER_01=
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST=
    (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS_LIST=
    (ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL= TCP) (HOST = my_hostname) (PORT = 1521))

    )
    (ADDRESS_LIST=
    (ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL= IPC) (KEY=EXTPROC0))

    )
    )
    )

In the 9iAS 1.0.2.1 install guide also, it is misspelled as ICP. But it should be 'IPC'. Will be corrected in the docs.

    Thanks,
    Mercy

    Hi,

Please use (on the database server) the Oracle Net Configuration Assistant followed by the Net Manager (from the start Menu)

If you haven't created a listener or not configured it yet, those wizard will guide you through.
The Net Manager will also help you to configure your tnsnames.ora file.

When this is completed, you can proceed with a basic validation using tnsping command. From command prompt:
    c:\tnsping DB_SID (e.g. orcl )

    Hi Folks,
I get a ORA-28575: unable to open RPC connection to external procedure agent error when my sql attempts to connect with the external procedure.

    My listener reads like this:
    LISTENER1 =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = blank)(PORT = 1521))

    (SID_DESC=(SID_NAME=extproc)
    (ORACLE_HOME=/space/oracleDB)(PROGRAM=/space/oracleDB/bin/extproc))))

    DB:2.53:Unable To Configure Listener! kx

Sorry. I hit enter by accident.
    My TNSNames looks like this:
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA.WORLD = (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=extproc))
    (CONNECT_DATA=(SID=extproc)))

I create the library for my external procedure's so. Then I make a package of its functions. I can start, stop and get the listener status, but when I go to call the functions from PL/SQL, I get the rpc error. Any ideas?

    Thanks much, Tom.

HiI am sending data from a dsp with a network card over TCP/IP to my pc running labview7express. The data is received correctly, I use a 'TCP create listener' followed by a 'TCP wait on listener' to establish the connection, followed by a while loop with 'TCP read' in it.The port returned by 'TCP create listener' is correct (1001), but somehow 'TCP wait on listener' returns 57345 as remote port!?Also when using another port eg 1003 it still returns 57345.. Anyone knows how this erroneous portnumber is achieved?

Anyone knows how this erroneous portnumber is achieved?Nothing wrong with that. A TCP/IP connection has ALWAYS two connection ends with each of them using a port number. 1001 is the port of the local listen socket (which needs to be fixed so that clients can connect to a known server) in your LabVIEW application. 57345 is the port number used by your software running on your DSP board. A client usually has no fixed port number but allocates any port number not already in use. When the listen socket receives a connection request it connects and passes the connection with the local port 1001 and the remote port 57345 through TCP Wait On Listener to your application. Since you set up the Listen Socket in Create Listener you already know its port number so TCP Wait on Listener does only return the port number of the remote connection end of your connection.Rolf Kalbermatter

It seems you're wiring the listener ID to TCP read. You need to wire the connection ID which you get from the wait on listener.

I'm running Oracle Enterpise Edition 10g R2 on Windows XP SP2.
It was running flawlessly, until I installed Oracle Development Suit 10g, then it happened that I couldn't connect through listener to the database.
I deinstalled Development Suit, but the problem is still here.

    Some more details:
    * I didn't change anything in the Oracle Net files (listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora).
    * I can start listener, and there is no error displayed upon the start.
    * After checking with lsnrctl status, database is shown to be registered with the listener.
    * I can't connect from sqlplus/EM with the listener.
    * After less than a minute, the listener seems to be crashed regarding to lsnrctl status:

Very likely listener runs in the wrong ORACLE_HOME. Check your PATH variable, I assume DEVSuite_ORACLE_HOME\bin comes before DB_ORACLE_HOME\bin. You may use OUI to change back the default ORACLE_HOME .

Verify your hostname. This problem is due to a change in hostname resolution method. Use your IP instead.

Why I can't send messages to Pocket PC emulator application

from desktop application which has TCP client which try to connect
    to the same adress?
    I' m receiving error 10061.
    I'm using VS2005.

    DB:2.52:Error 10061 k7

ActiveSync's network redirection acts like a NAT - I don't believe it supports inbound connections from PC to device.
You'll have better luck if you download the Virtual Switch driver from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=dc8332d6-565f-4a57-be8c-1d4718d3af65displaylang=en.  It enables two-way network connectivity to the emulator.  After you have installed the driver, launch the emulator with the NE2000 checkbox checked in the Networking tab (or check it while the emulator is running), and you'll get an emulated wired connection to whatever network your PC is connected to.

DB:2.52:Keep Getting Error Code: 66 Tcp Read --Help!!! 39

I have an application running on a PXI 8145 RT processor that runs fine except that after about 8 or 9 days the TCP read loop will report "Error Code: 66 TCP Read" and my application then crashes because I am only ignoring timeouts (Error 56.) To me it sounds like a memory allocation problem with the TCP VIs. I reboot the system and all is fine and good again for another 8 or 9 days. Any ideas why this would occur after 8 or 9 days consistently?

DB:2.52:Keep Getting Error Code: 66 Tcp Read --Help!!! 39

Dafna:The only way that I re-estalish a connection is by performing a cold reboot to the system. Just restarting the application will not work because they crash immediately. Therefore I still believe that something is using up memory and since the memory is completely cleared and reset on a reboot the problem is temporarily fixed. Also, I used the Targetmemeinfor=True line in the NI-RT.ini file however with LV 6.1 it does not return the information that was returned about the Heap memory when I was running LV 6.0.3.

    Hi,

You have to confirm the Oracle path first. Then, check the SQLNET.ORA file.

    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)

TNSNAMES.ora file must contains wrong path of TNS Lisntener.

Ok accepted it might not if there is a TCP Binding error. It might not if program has adequately hosed up WCF Bindings. It might not if WCF is not really as robust as it should be....JP Cowboy Coders Unite!

    Guys,

I am currently trying to read from a RFID Reader application known as TAVIS. It has a TCP/IP address (192.168.1.1) with a port at 6700.

Attached is a simple Vi that i have made to read from that port. I could get readings from that port successfully. However, after taking approx 6-8 readings of 60Bytes of data, the program crashes with an error 66. (error attached). I would need that this VI take active readings off the port continueously.

Kindly advice on how i can rectify this problem.

    Thanks a lot guys.

    Cheers,

    Justin

Are you sure about the IP address? IP 192.168.1.1 sounds more like a router address then the IP address of some other device.

oracle 8i personal edition installed on windows 98 se.
can start up shut down database.
    in windows network propriety :
added tcp/ip protocol - default adapter with ip addr. (192.164.0.1). # Not tcp/ip - lan card
    no DNS set up.

Can ping the ip addr. using DOS prompt.
Can see local database with lots of sample tables others schemes...

    Problem:
when using sqlplus connect to database. Error : no listener.
when using net8 assisant to config the tnsname listener. Still doesn't work.

Is there a way to start up listener automatically when start up database.
    Or manaully start up listener.

DB:2.51:Oracle 8i Personal Edition Setup Problem fd

Listener is used to allow remote clients to connect to your local database.
Remote client connections to a local database is not supported with Oracle Personal edition.

Uptime 0 days 0 hr. 2 min. 44 secGood catch. So it would appear he introduced a mismatch between the listener and the ability of the instances to register themselves, then put a band-aid on it by adding SID_LIST to the listener.ora.

    Good Morning All,

We have been having some troubles connecting our two ASA's for a VPN site to site connection. To me, the config's look okay and after about 10 tries of failing to connect, I have to be missing something and was wondering if I can get any suggestions of what I may be missing. The versions are pretty different, but I didn't think that mattered with this. Here is the error we are getting which seems to be completing Phase 1 and our config:

Thank you again for your responses. I checked and rechecked the ISAKMP policies along with my IT supervisor and both sites seem to be idendicatical in ASDM and in the config as well as long as the wording doesnt have to match due to what seems like difference ASA versions. IE:

    ver 7.0

    isakmp policy 10 authentication pre-share

    isakmp policy 10 encryption 3des

    isakmp policy 10 hash sha

    isakmp policy 10 group 2

    isakmp policy 10 lifetime 86400

    vs.

    ver 8.2

    crypto isakmp policy 10

    authentication pre-share

    encryption 3des

    hash sha

    group 2

    lifetime 86400

As far as devices, we only have a simple SMC modem/router that is setup to pass all traffic on both ends to the firewall so nothing should be stoping it. What you see in our config above is exactly whats in the firewall with no additional Cryptomaps on those ASA's.

Thank you again for all of your help. I am going to try and get the debug info here soon and I will post.

I know there is no difference but since you did a start without going into the utility and that seemed to return ok but then did status inside the utilitiy and that didn't I was just suggesting to try it the same way you started it and in addition specify the name of the listener..

srinivasYou don't need two listeners. One single listener, with the default name of LISTENER, using the default port of 1521, is quite capable of --- indeed, was designed to --- service multiple instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. And you most certainly don't need multiple listeners for the same instance. the listener is like a telephone switchboard. The phone company doesn't build a switchboard for every telephone customer. (analogous to a listener for every db instance) and they sure don't build one for every handset (a listener for every client application)

I just upgraded from Oracle 10.2.0.4 to 11.1.0.7 and everything is up, but the listener and the Enterprise Manager. I realized it when I tried to rebuild EM, it tells me listener is not avaible. I tried to start the listener and here is what I got:

I got it resolved! The problem was that Oracle lure me into taking another port number 1522 and I got the bit. But acutally, all I needed was the same port number (1521). I reconfigure my tnsname and listener and all is good. thanks to all.

I'd start by renaming listener.ora to listener.save, then restart your listener with a simple 'lsnrctl start'. The listener will come up with all default values which are appropriate for 99.9% of the people 99.9% of the time. If you have difficulties after that, they will be much easier to diagnose.

    DB:2.49:Configuration 7a

    Hi all,

I've a doubt with the listener configuration.. We are running 2 databases(10.2.0.4) on windows server 2003, the listener is configured as local_listener. Listener.ora looks like this:

    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ser1)(PORT = 1521))
    )

And the tnsnames.ora has listener registered for each database like:

    LISTENER_DB01=
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ser1)(PORT = 1521))

    DB01 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ser1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = DB01)
    ))

But, in our test database(10.2.0.4) running on windows 2003 server, we do not have local_listener setup. We have listener configuration having the host and the SID_list_listener with SID_name in the listener.ora. I believe this is remote listener configuration?

IS having local_listener configuration better for applications connecting to Oracle databases? THe reason why this came up is because we are got ORA-12516 error (only once last week) and the application spawns connections to Oracle maxing out the number of sessions(set to 500). Any suggestions please?

    Thanks

    DB:2.49:Configuration 7a

    Thanks..

Will the static configuration in anyway prevent from closing the connections to the Database? Or make it slow to close the connections? I'm researching on if there is a wait time in Oracle connections, when the application makes a connection and closes- can oracle slow it down or not close that connection? Because we have an application which opens number of connections but doesnt close eventually maxing out the processes/sessions and hanging Oracle..

    Thanks again

DB:2.48:Cant Access Internal Network While Connected With Vpn f3

    Hi,

We have a PIX 515E that has a remote access vpn.

Our internal network has a network address of 192.168.1.0/24, and the addresses we assign to the vpn clients are 192.168.1.49-192.168.1.62, or 192.168.1.48/28.

When I connect to the vpn, I can't ping any of my internal hosts. The error I get is "No translation group found for icmp src:...."

It's pretty clear that I would need a NAT rule, but why? The addresses are in the same network..

Could anyone enlighten me on how I would have to proceed to nat the traffic between my vpn clients and the internal network?

    Thanks.

The problem is when I start the program sometimes I get Error 66 and sometimes I don't. When I don't get the error it will keep running fine. I have the firewall turned off right now. Any suggestions?

Investigue que este error es debido a que Windows cierra la conexión antes de que Labview haga la conexión y Labview al intentar conectarse muestra el error, como se podría corregir este error o que consejos me darían?.

    Hi Mustafa,

The output of "show asp drop" is cumulative. So you need to clear the counters "clear asp drop" then try to observe a baseline and any abnormally increasing counters.

I suggest that you collect the ASP drop captures and match them to the reported failure:

    capture aspcap type asp-drop all

    capture aspcap  buffer 32000000

    show captue aspcap

Hello,I am trying to establish a simple TCP/IP connection to local host itself. The Server program is sending a string(example: Hello123456). I am receiving only a part of the string(ello123456) and also receiving an error, "Error 66 occurred at TCP Read". The peer side of the code is in java. I am sure that the peer side of the code does not close the connection, because I have kept enough time delay before it attempts to close the connection. I have also changed the options at Tools- Options-VI Server with Port = 0 and enabled the TCP/IP connection.

I have attached a screen shot of error received (using Probe) and the Vi.

    Kindly advise.Regards,H.

I think if you set the mode of the VISA read as CRLF, the VISA read will terminate once those termination characters are read in the serial port. However, if you are reading a binary data stream where those two bytes could occur next to each other as a part of real data, then the VISA read would terminate too early and your binary data stream would be incomplete. If you can guarantee that CR and LF aren't part of the data stream, then you could use them as termination characters to mark the end of the data message.

Regarding TCP connections, can someone explain the difference between Error 62 (Connection Aborted) and Error 66 (Connection Closed)?

My GUESS is that 66 means this Conn ID was closed normally via program operation and 62 means some unexpected breakage occurred (wire cut, power loss, etc).

    Is that a correct guess?

If so, then 66 could only occur if I try to use a ConnID after I have closed it.

    Also,

Error 63(Connection refused) means that an attempt to connect was refused by the other end, and so it could only occur on a TCP CONNECT operation, correct?

Error 64 (Not Connected) - where could that happen? If I pass NIL for CONN ID, it should report Error 1(BAD PARAMETER), if I pass a once-valid-but-now-closed ConnID, I would expect Error 66 (Connection Closed), if I pass a random ConnID number, I would expect Error 1. So when does 64 happen?

Thanks for pointers to docs, or other insights.

OK, so the full definition of 66 is "Closed by the PEER (the other end)".

Though it looks like I can't reliably determine whether the other end closed the connection politely, or somebody pulled the plug.

You don't have to listen on IPC, IPC uses direct process communication.

You can set up a TNSName to connect to IPC on a local machine without going through the listener.

    DB:2.47:Tns-04406: Object Already Exists 8c

    HAve you checked for

    1) stray, or non-ASCII, characters in the ADDRESS string?
    2) contents matching your /etc/hosts

Have you run netmgr, or just netca?
