    Hi,

I just had ATT U-Verse 100 package installed on 3 TV's in my home about a month back. zip code: 95014. I have read the posts on this forum about compatibility of ATT and Tivo and seems like its a mixed bag. Some have it working fine while others could not and are totally fed up!

So if I do get tivo, what are the advantages and disadvantages? From what I read I understand Tivo will not record uverse HD programs only standard ones? What if ATT switches everything to HD? Is that a realistic scenario (seems like they are trying to get into Tivo's market share) ? I just spoke with ATT customer support lady and she very rudely told me, they don't support TIVO and it would cost be about $50 /month to get their DVR(but I am pritty sure when I enquired before actually buying the package, they told me it would be only $15/month)! Soooo not a good deal when compared with Tivo one time charge of around 200 bucks!

Before I go and commit myself to a DVR vendor, appreciate yourcomments/suggestions on Tivo or other better options out there which would work best with U-Verse.

    Thanks,

    Green.

When I log out of kidzone to watch tv I only need to do this once and I can view all channels and programs. The system automatically reengages kid zone after a few hrs if I forget to to back there before I stop watching.

My Tivo isn't working after I installed my second cable box for the digital conversion.

I have a splitter for Tivo so that it can record a channel while I watch another one. One side was going through Tivo to the digital cable box, but the other was just going into Tivo. But this stopped working so well once the digital conversion started, so Comcast sent me another digital box for the other side of the splitter.

I routed the cable from the splitter through the new digital box and back to Tivo. Now Tivo doesn't work. Specifically, I can only change channels through the new digital box on channel 3, but not through Tivo, which means that I can't record any programs. I've contacted Comcast a couple times, but customer service hasn't been much help so far. Any suggestions?

    DB:2.96:Digital Conversion And Tivo ds

Please go to the Tivo.com web site and click on the support page. In the search box type in DTA and there will be multiple links to help you correctly connect and get your TIVO working with the DTA. You need to know if you have a series one or series 2 single tuner TIVOor series 2 dual tuner TIVO. You will need your IR blaster that came with your TIVO so the TIVO can send the IR signals to the DTA window, that is what will change the DTA channel when the TIVO needs to change channels. If you do not have your IT blaster you can order a new one on Tivo's web site.

You will need to know what brand of DTA Comcast supplied, either Motorola, Pace, Ciscoor Thomson.

If you have a dual tuner series 2 TIVOand only use one DTA, you will lose the ability to record 2 shows at once, unless you get a 2nd Comcast digital box from Comcast (not a 2nd DTA). To restore recording 2 shows at the same time you will need one DTA connected to the RF input on your TIVO, and a 2nd Comcast digital box with AV outputs, (not a DTA) connected to the AV inputs on your series 2 TIVO. Diagrams and instructions are on TIVO's web site.

In all cases, either the Comcast digital box or DTA would never be connected after the TIVO. The output of the TIVO, either RF or composite video will connect directly to the TV.

    Hope this helps.

U-verse was installed Friday (7/23/10) and for the most part I am very pleased with the service. A few minor things I have noticed so far. The 30 second skip forward is not cumulative. With TiVo 2 presses got you 60 seconds and on U-verse you have to wait for the first skip to end before pressing again. Also, the only way to see where you are in watching a recording is to press Play. With TiVo the progress bar would come up with the skip.

ATT store told me I would not be able to keep my pacbell.net email addresses and they all came with the new service just fine. That was good news.

I found a solution on the Tivo community forum. I have everything hooked up to a wireless network, with the new Tivo wireless adapter. Download Tivo desktop (from their website). Then also go to www.tvharmony.com and download their software. It's similar to the version Tivo will be coming out with. You then create rules and settings. These allow you to pick which shows you want. It even gives you the option to convert file to IPod format. as well as other options. You then follow the steps...transfer the tv show to your computer from your Tivo, then download the files w/ tvharmony. That program then converts the files to the correct format. You then add the file to your IPOD. Since it's so early in the morning, and my IPOD is in my car, I haven't put it on the IPOD yet. But I do know that it plays correctly in Itunes.

I will put a tuner on abc, and another on cbs. I will pause abc while I watch cbs, then when a commercial hits I pause and switch over to ABC and catch up.Plus my wife loved it. She would put a game on and pause it, then switch over to the other tuner and watch something else until I got back to the couch. I have the Directv TiVo HD dvr, THR22, and I'm having trouble with the enhanced content. Basically the Tivo dvr's have 2 tuners recording a 30 minute cache at all times on which ever channel they are on, so that you don't have to record every program.

The Directv enhanced content, from what I can tell, is the ppv movies that are available from channels 125 - 198. Directv downloads these movies to have them available in case you want to watch them. Since there are always new movies, this is constantly downloading. So if I'm trying to watch programs on different tuners (channels), one of the channels gets interrupted. If I'm watching something and a program is scheduled to record while this content is being downloaded, the tivo will make me change my channel instead of stopping the enhanced content download. This happens constantly. I have already disabled the recording for TiVo suggestions and restarted the Tivo, but I can't stop the enhanced downloads.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

Additional markets are being added for Comcast Tivo (with Xfinity On Demand as well as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu+, You Tube and Pandora). Now, Comcast's home market has been added.

Here is the updated list of markets:

    Colorado*Fresno, CAIndiana*Kansas City, MO*Miami, FL/South Florida*Minnesota*New England/Boston Area*New Jersey*Olathe, KSPhiladelphia, PAPittsburgh, PA/Tri-State Area*Portland, ORSacramento, CASan Francisco Bay AreaSanta Barbara, CASeattle/Tacoma, WA Western WA*Western MD
    * XFINITY On Demand is currently not available in all areas of this region.

Currently Tivo offers Tivo Premiere (45 HD hours) for $69.99. PremiereXL (150 HD hours) for $199.99. PremiereXL4 (300 HD hours, records four shows at once) for $399.99.

Tivo upgrades it's program guide through an Internet connection (ethernet or WiFi). Advantage is if you lose power, you keep your guide info when you start back up. You can update your guide data on demand and a complete update is downloaded and installed in an hour or two.

Tivo allows you to save recorded programs to a DVD. And it allows you add memory with an expansion drive (Comcast DVRs have that capability but it's blocked).

Tivo allows you to rate programs and then suggests (or automatically records) other programs you might like based on your ratings. Suggestion recordings are saved only as long as recordings you have set allow space for them.

In addition to the purchase price for the unit, you need to buy a program guide subscription and get an M-cable card from Comcast. Generally, with a lifetime subscription, Tivo pays for itself in about three years (compared to Comcast's charges for a DVR they provide) - more or less, depending on which Tivo box you get.

I also posted this in the DVR forum. Not sure which one to use. I just had my DirectTV installed this week, and am having problems with the TIVO DVR we had previously. The installer said, all I needed to have for the TIVO to work, was connect the RCA cables from the DirectTV receiver to the TIVO; well I learned that kind of works, but of course I can't record while watching (except for the channel I have the Sat. tuned for). I did install the IR channel changer, and that takes care of recording stuff while I am not watching tv.Here is my question. The DirectTV customer service dept; says the only thing I need for this to work correctly is a 2nd line run to the DirectTV receiver. Is that correct? From reading the forums, I am all confused. I would think I also need a reciever for just the TIVO box.And to stop everyone from saying get the DirectTV DVR. I just paid TIVO for 2 years of service, becuase I didn't have any intention of going with Satellite until I couldn't get the B10 network on cable; so to get my $$ out of the TIVO, I am kind of stuck for a while. Thanks very much for your help

Okay, I found this out a while back - but in case anybody stumbles across this thread - here's what my problem was....

I'd done a clean re-install of the OS (XP Media Center '05) from the Dell DVD which installs something called the Sonic Encoders which I thought would do the job. But they aren't the only thing you need.

You still need a compatible SOFTWARE(!!) MPEG-2 (DVD) Decoder installed to Fast Foward, Reverse, and Seek, and play back DVD's in Media Center, even if these exist in your hardware. I'd found neither my preferred Nero or Pinnacle codecs were compatible (You can download a program from Microsoft to see if you have a compatible codec installed). Once I discovered I was missing a compatible codec I installed CyberLink Power DVD (software provided with my Dell), selected the CyberLink codec to be used with Media Center and now everything works.

    Good Luck...

I have had two Tivo cable Boxes do the same thing and there does seem to be an issue with the service. The Box WILL re-boot after a test of the emergency Broadcast system and will re-boot to HSN. For me what appears is that the IR light on the cable box comes on and will stay on, the remote does not do anything, after about 5 minutes the box will re-boot and go through the software re-load which can take up to 10 - 15 minutes. I have had comcast replace the box and it still does it. Customer support says there is no relation between the test of the EBS and the box re-boot, but the engineer who came out to install the new box said it happens all the time, you don't even have to be on the station that's having the test, as long as any station has the test the box will re-boot.

YES it's very frustrating because I really like the TIVO box and software but you never know when you are going to miss out on 15 minutes of a program.

I used to be able to watch to programs by bouncing back and forth between tuners on live stuff and can't seem to find it on the HR20? 2) When behind on something that is currently airing, how do you quickly catch back up to live TV with having to just fast-forward forever? With the Tivo unit you are able to just hit the absolute value right button and it would bring you back to the program live.3) When watching a recorded program, how do you move quickly between the time-marks on the "length of program" scale? Again on the Tivo unit, once you began to FF you could hit the absolute value right button and it would take you to the next time mark on the horizontal time scale. Is there nothing that does that on the HR20? Sorry if these have been answered before but I couldn't find anything on these topics and the manual for the HR20 is absolutely useless! Bought another R10 for $10 off of Craigslist to make sure it was just my R10 after verifying with DirecTV that it was not a leased one. DirecTV got me an access card for free. Went thru **** getting it updated past last year's DirecTV/TiVo local channels problem because MagicJack has decided to block the DirecTV/TiVo dialup numbers all of a sudden (even though MagicJack won't admit it will try to blame it on the phone companies which I know is a lie because I was a consultant for a major telephone company), so I had to take the R10 I purchased elsewhere to get it updated. So, it seems that it was just my original R10 which I will salvage when I get through capturing and/or watching what I had recorded on it.

Will this work and what does it entail. Has anyone else done this? At the moment, I'm not feeling confident about upgrading. Any input would be appreciated.

I bought a used HDVR2. I already have an R15 DVR on my account. I ordered a new access card for the HDVR2. I get all channels but could not record programs. I called customer service and they told me I had to get Tivo service activated and that it would take 3 - 5 days. So is Tivo different from the regular DVR service? Why does it take 3 -5 days?

    Thanks

I have a TiVo Roamio system with a comcast cablecard. When searching for movies or other on demand programs, the system will freeze for several seconds. Sometimes I have to revert to TiVo central to un freeze the system. While playing the movie it will revert back to live TV by itself, usually between 1/2 hour and one hour into the program. I have to go back to On Demand to retrieve the program. I think it might be a bad cable card. Any suggestions?

The wireless router that would be easiest for a Mac user to configure would be one from Apple. There are three categories:

    1) AirPort Extreme Base Station for US$179. This has extra ports that you could use to connect your TiVo via Ethernet (assuming you have a capable TiVo unit).

    2) AirPort Express Base Station for US$99. This has no extra Ethernet port, so all access would have to be wireless.

    3) Time Capsule for US$299 (1TB) or US$499 (2TB). These include a built-in disk drive that can be used with Time Machine to do backups.

If those prices are too steep for you, there are third-party wireless routers for somewhat less. The drawback is that configuration with a Mac is more complicated.

I waited one year( and 5 weeks for an appointment) until this technology was improved. I can't believe that DTV took a shortcut in their "new" HD DVR product. After several hours of hunting through manuals to find out where the dual buffer access buttons were, I turned to this resource to find out that there is no dual buffer feature!!!! I use this function constantly being a guy and watching two programs at once with no commercials. I also let an interesting program buffer while I am watching the other, most often during the network news shows that only have 50% of their content worth watching. I guess my question is can I purchase a Series 3 TiVo on my own and register it with DTV. I hope Verizon has more sense when they come around my block with FIOS fiber triple play plus mobile phone Grand Slam offerings!!!!

When watching baseball and you want to advance from the end of one pitch to the beginning of the next pitch, FF X1 without jumpback works great. The same applies for speeding up a football game when one wants to quickly advance from the end of a play to the start of the next scrimmage. But DirecTV programs in jumpback into FF X1. Here's how to override the jumpback. Press FF once and when the stopping point is reached, instead on pressing PLAY or REW, press PAUSE two times. The first press pauses and voids the jumpback, and the second press toggles out of pause and on to play. I have an HR22-100, hopefully this trick will work for other models.

    Hi There,
Depends what you have really. I have a UK series 1 TiVo. There is a piece of software called TiVoTool that will allow you to download TiVo recordings and insert them into iTunes. However, version 0.6.1 is still buggy, so go for version 0.5.7. In order to use this software you must have a 'modified' TiVo i.e. it must have a network connection and you have to install a video 'server' into the TiVo itself. If you're feeling brave have a look at www.tivocommunity.com there is a whole mad world out there and you'll be amazed how flexible a TiVo can be.

    Good Luck

I then went to my old trusty HR10-250 that I have in my bedroom and it had recorded both programs off of my local HDTV antennae. Another example of why I won't get rid of my HR10 to go to this piece of junk. I have to have a backup DVR to protect against the most unreliable HR21-700.

It is mindblowing how far in quality DirecTV has gone backwards once they ditched the TiVo version.

Sure I can get a slingbox or TiVo or something like that to accomplish this but I would rather not have to spend more money to achieve a simple thing.

In this day and age a feature like watching recorded programs should be a no brainer. Has Verizon ever given any reason why they don't allow this?

I remember a Verizon VP in India touting that fios would be able to watch tv from the dvr but instead Verizon dumped flexview on us Comcast, Directv, Dish and Cablevision all allow their customer's to view content stored on their DVR's remotely. Not pay for movies that you can get from video store or perhaps own in you home. I can't figure Verizon out. Maybe Comcast, Directv, Dish and Cablevision have better content provider lawyers working for them to allow their customer's the flexiblility and availability of their DVR content. Just saying

DB:2.64:Tivo Recording Programs On Channels I Don't Receive dx

How do I get my Tivo to stop recording programs on channels I don't receive? On the surface, it looks exciting that Tivo is picking these up, but come to find out I didn't even have the channel in the first place! Ah, what a let down! Anyways, how do I teach my Tivo to stop recording channels I don't receive?

Does anyone know if shows recorded by a Tivo can be easily transferred to the new 5g iPod?

"TiVo speaks on Mac Desktop software, iPod support"
    http://www.macworld.com/news/2005/11/21/tivointerview/index.php?lsrc=mwrss

TiVoToGo is the foundation upon which TiVos developers are providing a new service that enables users to export video to a format that can be read by both the new video-capable iPod and the PSP. The new transfer support is being introduced on a test basis in a beta version TiVo plans to release to a limited group of subscribers in the coming weeks. If all goes well, the company plans to make it available to all users of its Series2 boxes in the first quarter of 2006, for a nominal (and as yet, unspecified) fee.

TiVoToGo enables users of some Microsoft Windows-equipped PCs and Windows-compatible portable media players to copy their shows onto their computers and portable devices. The company has promised a Macintosh version, which Denney indicated theyre still working on.

We hope to have something in mid-2006, he told MacCentral.

When pressed for more details, Denney added, I would prefer to underpromise and overdeliver in this case. We havent set a date but were actively working on it.

On the old TIVO boxes there was an option to save to VHS/DVD. Is there a way to do this with the HR20? If so, how?

    DB:2.64:Network Auto-Pausing Tivo During A Promo? md

I have three receivers, two of them TiVo units with DirecTV built in. Love DirecTV; love TiVo. But this weekend, I saw some first time - and rather disturbing - behaviour...I was watching a recording of the Spanish Grand Prix this past Sunday on CBS, forwarding through sections I was not interested in. TiVo paused in the middle of some promos. I backed up, and tried to fast forward through the same section again, and it paused at the exact same spot again - at the start of a promo for CSI on CBS. (Which I happen to already have on Season Pass on our other TiVo - and which I resented being given a major storyline clue to during the promo!)I've seen the press to record/for more info graphic on TiVo before, and tolerate it grabbing promos and the such when I'm not watching, but this is the first time I've seen TiVo take control out of the hands of the user in the name of a station promo. I DEEPLY resent that, on several levels. I am normally a staunch TiVo and DirecTV advocate, but this may be the beginning of the end for me.Please tell me this is a test that will not be supported or continued! Has anyone else experienced this? - Chris

DB:2.64:White Screen With Good Audio While Watching Video On Itunes cj

I use a TIVO brand DVR. I have successfully converted and loaded over 55 movies from my Tivo to my Ipod. Recently, when I open only SOME of the movies in ITUNES, I get no video, just a white screen and the audio works fine. I had previously tested ALL the movies and ALL worked fine in Itunes until recently. Now I cannot watch the videos on Itunes, but they still work fine on the IPOD. Some still work fine, others not so much.

DB:2.64:Tivo "Copy Right" And Auto Delete Message cj

We recently moved and switched to Comcast. We are now receiving a "copyright" message on our TiVo that states that all programs will be deleted after 7 days and the programs will be auto deleted 24 hours after the first viewing. This just started happening when We started Comcast. TiVo says it is a Comcast issue.

Any one experience this and has anyone found a solution so that the TiVo'd shows will not auto delete?

    Thanks.

    Michele.

I now see that you posted a similar issue in the TV Service and Equipment forum, so I'm going to lock this redundant thread.

Given the significantly limited memory and features of the Verizon HD DVR, how doesa TiVo unit work with Fios? Specifically I assume you purchase the TiVo and then get a service plan from TiVo? (never had one) With the TiVo can you view recorded programs on any TV in the house like you can with the Verizon DVR?

    DB:2.64:Tivo Ilo Verizon Dvr 9m

Yes Tivo to Tivo can be done. You can also share items from your PC to your Tivo.

Download Video that is not locked by the program provider from your Tivo to PC. VZ DVR does not do this.

There have been many posting on what you give up when you use a cable card. You do not get the wonderful Verizon channel guide, widgets, or VOD.

Do not get the previously owned Tivo unless you are willing to take your chances. 90 day vs 1 year warranty. 90 day warranty on something you have a 1yr commitment on. I had a big argument regarding a 100 day old "Previously Enjoyed Tivo" when the hard drive crashed. The cost for exchange was $50 and you had to send it and wait for the return. No TV until it comes back. Or pay for the Express exchange which is The same plus the full price of a brand new unit, when they are shipping a used unit that may not be better than the one that crashed. Once your unit arrives back at Tivo, you get the refund.

Tech support insisted all refurbished units come with a new drive. Perhaps newly formatted. Because the date on my drive was two years old. Yes they could have had the drive on a shelf somewhere, but not likely. Opening the box will void the warranty. Yea right. I replaced the 160 gig drive, which is the same size as the Verizon DVR, and installed a 1TB drive that cost me $100. Loaded the Tivo image on the new drive with the use of a program called Instant Cake $20. So if you get the cheaper Tivo and can to the tech portion of loading the image on the new drive, you get the same storage as the Tivo that cost $500+ less the THX cert. So if you are the tech type, I would say go cheap and take a chance on the refurbished and replace the drive yourself.

Other then that I am very happy with my Tivo.

DB:2.64:Tivo Desktop Does Not Recognize Mediahub As Write-Able ak

I'm using my MediaHub (NMH305) as a networked server of all my media. This includes TV programs from my networked TivoHD. To move video off my Tivo, I have the Tivo Desktop app which allows you to select the drive/location on any networked computer. I want to select my MediaHub as the location but Tivo Desktop does not allow me to set the MediaHub as the destination drive. Has anyone dealt with this problem or something similar?

DB:2.64:Tivo Desktop Does Not Recognize Mediahub As Write-Able ak

Come to think of it, I’m having the same problem as well. I can’t click on the network drive I created for the media hub.

Here’s the link from TiVO that I found. It explains something about the problem.
