    Hi reidroshdy,

Sorry you are having problems. The fact Firefox works in Safe Mode is usefull to know. That points to it working because of one of the changes safe mode makes: that includes disabling add-ons and turning off hardware acceleration.

see Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode
and Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes
Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
especially Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems_turn-off-hardware-acceleration

Try with hardware accelleration off and add the extensions back one by one (or half/quarter at a time if you have a few) untill you find which one is the problem.

Note you may wish to update your plugins, but take care Flash and Realplayer could be problematic.

Suddenly within the past few weeks if I have firefox up for more than 5 minutes I get a popup that firefox has stopped working and the browser just shuts down. Crash reports being sent, not sure what that does anyway as it's not helping me.

    Have tried:

Hi tpeach03, all 5 are crashes in the Flash plugin. Could you try starting up with a blank page and setting Flash to "click to play" so you can browse without Flash starting automatically?

Call up the Run dialog, Window key + R (or maybe you can search it up from the charms bar search box).

Type or paste this and then run it:

    firefox.exe "about:blank"

Open the Add-ons page using either:

    Ctrl+Shift+a
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins.

Look for "Shockwave Flash" and change "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".

When you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

For the time being, you may want to ignore Flash unless it's a site you know uses it responsibly. ;-)

Next, this is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with the Flash Player plugin. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:

    (1) If you have any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.

    (2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash

    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) Options Advanced General "Use hardware acceleration when available"

    (B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

    (3) Disable the protected mode feature. It has security benefits, but is not compatible with all systems for some reason. You can disable it by creating or editing a settings file.

The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that:

Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

    Manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/968190?page=5#answer-509209

Batch file to automate the manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/982093#answer-518078

Flash needs to completely unload from memory (exiting and starting Firefox up again might help) before this takes effect.

    Any luck?

That is a problem with the Flash Player.

Do you have more recent crash reports as this seems to be an older crash report with FlashPlayerPlugin_11_6_602_180 and you currently seem to have flash 11.9 according to the System Details List?

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

    Hi Byrannp,
    sorry you are having problems.

The vast majority of crashes are due to something specific to small groups of users or certain applications and do not fix themselves. You have finally taken a step in the right direction by asking about your crash.

    May I suggest

You read this article and try to follow the advice it contains
Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes
Start your own thread by using /questions/new
Try to follow the prompts for including troubleshooting information
Please paste couple of Crash ID s into the question (use about:crashes - see 1 above)

Post back in this thread to confirm that you have done that. (we may cross link the threads).

The Firefox Health Report is a new feature that is in development. Features are likely to be added in stages, and there are two sides to this, reporting metrics to developers, and helping the end user fix problems through an interactive interface.
Some of the plans are detailed here:

I have been using Firefox now for several years without any problems at all; however, it crashed a few days ago and since then I have receives a "Crash Report" splash screen every time I try to use the program. I have made a .JPG of the message, if that is necessary. When I click on the "Restart Firefox" button on the splash screen it just recycles and displays the same splash screen -- no matter what I try, Firefox will not initiate.

This crash happened while I was using v3.6.3, and I have subsequently uninstalled that version and installed v3.6.8 in an attempt to get the program to work again; however I am still getting the same "Crash Report". Firefox still will not work.

I have another computer in the house and Firefox continues to work just fine on that machine, so I conclude that the problem is specific to the first machine.

After I uninstalled Firefox I also ran "CCleaner" and "Wise Registry Cleaner" as well as "Wise Disk Cleaner" in an attempt to remove all files related to firefox. I have also cleaned the "Recycle bin". However none of that has made any difference; Firefox still will not initiate and still displays the same "Crash Report" screen.

This problem has also affected my "Thunderbird" (v3.1.1) application - I can no longer access my e-mail through Thunderbird. Thunderbird displays the same "Crash Report".

Is there a hidden file (something not effected by the uninstall program or cleaning programs I have used) that I need to change, modify, or delete somewhere in my system in order to get Firefox and Thunderbird to work again on this computer?

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) Add-ons Appearance/Themes).

Hi whardwick, unfortunately Microsoft's page on that particular blue screen (Bug Check 0x3B: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION) is very general: "This error has been linked to excessive paged pool usage and may occur due to user-mode graphics drivers crossing over and passing bad data to the kernel code." It's hard to think of what Firefox is doing when it is shutting down that would fit that description. One guess would that some pages contain plugins that attempt to store data or display a message when you navigate away from them, which is being triggered by the shutdown.

    Chosen Solution

hello paulyo, the crash in the report id that you've provided is apparently caused by a software named "Digital Guardian" by Verdasys which is interfering with firefox.

Digital Guardian is enterprise software that is only tested and compatible with Firefox ESR releases. Future versions of Digital Guardian will have a better error message about this incompatibility, instead of crashing. But since your computer requires this software, you will have to install the Firefox ESR version, or get it from your system administrator.

Firefox is my default browser on my new laptop, with OS Windows 7. I've now had several instances where a Windows popup comes up saying Firefox has developed a problem and may have to close. It also indicates Windows "is looking for a solution to the problem." No solution is found, however, and Firefox is forced to close, with the happy notice that Windows will let me know if it finds a solution to the problem. If there is any tech data on the crash, I'm not sure where to find it, and no Firefox crash report window comes up. I thought it was an anomaly the first time, but this has now occurred at least 4 times in the past several days.

My system prompted me to complete a FireFox upgrade this evening. Once completed, Firefox now crashes on opening. It will not open in SAFE mode either (holding SHIFT key down when launching). My Firefox crash log captures the crash ID listed below. I have scanned for malware/viruses with Malwarebytes and AVG 2012, system is clean. I dwonloaded and re-installed the newest Firefox, I have restored my system to earlier date (restore point from 2 days ago), all to no avail. Google Chrome and Internet explorer still work fine.

When scrolling, Firefox will at times start to hang up and the entire window turns black. If you wait for a bit it may come back to normal looking, but then when you scroll again it turns black again... I have also noticed that eventually, when this starts, it will crash completely. Rebooting or restarting Firefox usually fixes it for a while, but it always eventually does it again. Not sure how to post crash reports here, have 7 in the last 2 weeks.

I am using Samsung Galaxy S4 Andriod 4.2.2

Firefox used to work fine, then it updated (i think it was 3-4 updates ago this problem started happening) and ever since it crashes an almost any page. Sometimes I can load a page then be able to look at the page for a few seconds before it crashes, but most of the time it will crash before a page even gets a chance to load. I can't even look at the add-ons. I can load the first add on page with the search bar, but anything after that causes Firefox to go away (similar to pressing the home button to got to the phones home screen.) If i hold down the home button to show running apps, firefox is still running, but when I go back into firefox it takes me back to the main start screen of Firefox. When the issue happens it does not bring up a crash reporter, I have check about:crashes but there is nothing listed there. I have also tried reinstalling, and tried firefox beta. I have the same issue with both. Default Andriod browser works fine. I have also tried 4G and wifi connection but that didn't make a difference. Plz any help would be much appreciated. I LOVE firefox, but not when I can't even use it lol.

There are quite a few reports with that crash signature:

[Crash Reports in nsSimpleURI::SchemeIs(char const*, int*)]

Look like a problem with running JavaScript.

Does it happen on specific pages?

Does it help if you disable the JavaScript JIT compiler temporarily as a test?

Try to set these two prefs to false on the about:config page to disable the JavaScript JIT compiler for scripts on web pages.

    javascript.options.methodjit.content
    javascript.options.tracejit.content

If you still see the crashes then do the same with these two for Chrome content (browser and extensions):

    javascript.options.methodjit.chrome
    javascript.options.tracejit.chrome

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.

If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

I have been using Firefox now for several years without any problems at all; however, it crashed a few days ago and since then I have receives a "Crash Report" splash screen every time I try to use the program. I have made a .JPG of the message, if that is necessary. When I click on the "Restart Firefox" button on the splash screen it just recycles and displays the same splash screen -- no matter what I try, Firefox will not initiate or run.

This crash happened while I was using v3.6.3, and I have subsequently un-installed that version and installed v3.6.8 (the latest version) in an attempt to get the program to work again; however I am still getting the same "Crash Report". Firefox still will not work.

I have another computer in the house and Firefox continues to work just fine on that machine, so I conclude that the problem is specific to the first machine.

After I un-installed Firefox, using Windows un-install utility, I ran "CCleaner" and "Wise Registry Cleaner" as well as "Wise Disk Cleaner" in an attempt to remove all files related to Firefox. I have also cleaned the "Recycle bin". However none of that has made any difference; Firefox still will not initiate and still displays the same "Crash Report" screen.

This problem has also affected my "Thunderbird" (v3.1.1) e-mail application - I can no longer access my e-mail through Thunderbird. Thunderbird displays the exact same "Crash Report" when started. I have also un-installed this program and re-installed it - still the problem persists.

Is there a hidden file (something not effected by the un-install program or cleaning programs I have used) that I need to change, modify, or delete somewhere in my system in order to get Firefox and Thunderbird to work again on this computer?

This post has been up since 8/6/2010; it is now 8/30/2010 - Isn't there someone out there who can help me fix this problem?

This has been going on for a few weeks and started of it's own accord. I have not recently installed any new plugins or scripts, and my PC is protected by two antivirus products and so my system (WinXP) is malware free.
I can browse firefox for up to 4 hours, and then it crashes. No matter what sites I am using, what I am doing or even if I'm at the PC... so long as there's a text box on the page then firefox will crash if the 4 hour time limit expires. I can be just about to save an hours worth of photo captions and lose all that work due to the crash, or can be in the middle of a background download but it'll still crash... daily.
I thought this was a plugin issue, as I have disabled all plugins for javascript handling, flashgot, etc, but still it crashes. (previously on startup Firefox would hang for 5 to 10 minutes and the system would "bing" at me if I tried to click on the firefox window... eventually a 'non responsive script' window would appear relating to a flashgot script). The crash used to go whereby suddenly the page would freeze for a few seconds, followed by a minute or two of safe working, then 2 minutes of freeze and 30 seconds of safe working, with the ratio of freeze-tim:working time working in 20 seconds increments until firefox crashed... now though there is no warning, the page freezes and then it's gone. I have updated firefox several times and still the problem persists. On a previous computer, Firefox degraded to the point where it froze for 4 minutes on any page with a Flash application... now on this computer it has degraded by itself to the point where it crashes after 4 hours of use.
I'm presently using Internet Explorer to type this question because firefox crashed again and I'm not going to sit waiting for it to reload just to get a few numbers from an information screen... therefore further info like crash ID's etc will be update in due time....

If I try and submit a crash report the Crash Reporter states "there was a problem submitting your report", hence no crash ID available.

    DB:3.02:Firefox Constantly Crashing Since 33.0.3 Update 88

I know there is another post about this, but the user didn't give too much information, and the "solution" does nothing to help.

I had bunch of tabs open, which I normally do on Firefox without issue, and Firefox automatically updated itself. Shortly after, Firefox crashed while I was trying to access another web page.

Since then, it will constantly crash. If I restart and restore all my tabs, it will normally crash as soon as I try to use a new tab or type in my old ones. If I leave it alone for a while it seems to work for a matter of minutes before crashing again.

I even reset Firefox, but that did nothing for me. It just seems like it wants to crash no matter what I try.

I had just put Firefox as my default web browser (as I had it this way before, but switched to Chrome when too many problems were occurring from a previous update). I had to go right back to Chrome. While I like to keep all my browsers updated, this is simply ridiculous. I have never crashed so many times from doing what a browser is meant to do.

Anyway I can downgrade back to just version 33.0.0 until another version comes out?

It has crashed at other times as well, but I can make it crash by being inside of yahoo mail. I rarely have over 4 tabs open at any one time.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Tools Options Advanced General Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools Add-ons Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools Add-ons Appearance
Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

    (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

When I try to "Restart Firefox" the message box appears. I have rebooted the system, then tried to load Firefox, and the message box appears. DB:2.99:Mac Running Mavericks Crashes Firefox Daily. Exc_Bad_Access / Kern_Protection_Failure Please Help. 33

    Hi,
I have a Mac running Mavericks and Firefox keeps crashing most daily for the past three months and I get a "Firefox has crashed submit report" popup.

It is usually if I am playing a youtube video or a movie (more then one) at a time. Or if one video is loading and I try to play or load another. I notice if I "que" or pre-load a long video (more then 15 minutes), then try to play a new one it will crash.

I have tried the following solutions none of which have worked:

    A) Uninstalling and reinstalling firefox

    B) Reset Firefox (Help, troubleshooting information, reset firefox)

    C) Turn off hardware acceleration (Firefox, preferences, un-check hardware acceleration)

    D) Turn off "enable hardware acceleration in "youtube" (it now asks me each time if I would allow it to play)

    E) Plugin Check and Updates are all up to date (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/) I only have:

    SharePoint Browser Plug-in (research)

    Default Browser Helper (research)

These plugins are up to date: (as of March 7th 2014)

Shockwave for Director 12.0.6 (Up to Date)

Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.70 (Up to Date)

QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.3 (Up to Date)

Sometimes I get this as the "signature": libsystem_platform.dylib@0x4280

Again I have tried the above solutions but they have not worked. Any help or advice will be appreciated.
    Thank you

    Shawn

The latest version of Firefox has crashed several times on me.

The custom program will consume all of my hard drive and freezes the computer for a while.

    Chosen Solution

There's different reasons for those crash reports. One is due to Flash (probably need to update that as it's an old version. See if that helps before troubleshooting Flash), one has an EMPTY signature meaning no data was submitted through the crash reports so that's basically useless, and the other is regarding graphics. You could try the following:

Update Flash to the latest version at get.adobe.com/flashplayer
Try to disable Firefox's built-in hardware acceleration

Can you use the original email address where the crash reports are supposed to be sent to report the abuse?

My point was that if you had access to the original messages claiming to come from you, you could do something about it by sending copies to an anti-spam or anti-abuse organization. If someone sends messages to someone else claiming to come from you, you do not have access to those messages.

I'm having this problem too, started around some version 4 minor, up untill now. After every single update to Firefox ( and those are a lot ), Flash freezes.

Please note this is NOT a Firefox bug. It is a problem with Flash which they are not able to fix. It goes even this far that the Firefox team decided to run plugins in a separate plugin container so at least your browser doesnt crash. ( see also: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/The%20Adobe%20Flash%20plugin%20has%20crashed )

Of course it's just ridiculous that Macromedia won't fix this issue so other developers of completely separate software have to resort to these kind of measures just too keep the error reporst low.

Another problem is that Flash won't use the proper update feature of Firefox ( thus auto-updating after every new version of Firefox ) but instead keep using stand-alone updates.

The only thing you can do is after every update to Firefox, go to add-ons, check for updates and update Flash manually. There is sometimes a couple of days between a FF update and a Flash update.

Best thing should be to ditch Flash altogether, but unfortunately too many sites and CMSes rely on Flash being installed :(

DB:2.95:Firefox Crashes And I Cant Open It. I Have Done Everything You Have Listed 3c

Firefox crash reporter comes up every time I try to start it. It won't open in safe mode. I deleted firefox per your instructions including in the programs files. I restarted computer and downloaded firefox to my computer desktop. I reinstalled and now I can't get it to open at all. The firefox crash reporter just comes up. I like fire fox better than internet explorer but if someone can't help me I will have to use it.

DB:2.95:Photobucket Site And Other Sites Cause Firefox V19 To Freeze And Crash. All The Time. Photobucket Causes Firefox V19, To Slow, Then Crash. c1

If you view photos for an extended time, or open a few tabs, Photobucket will cause Firefox to slow down, eventually freeze, then crash. This only started occurring when I updated to Firefox v19.0. This freezing and blanking out of the entire screen image of Firefox will occur when another program, such as Windows mail, is loading at the same time. It also is occurring at random times for no reason. I've never experienced a problem such as this with Firefox or Mozilla, ever. Nothing is preventing this from happening. I have Vista Home Premium, SP2. Dell Inspiron 530s.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools Add-ons Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools Add-ons Appearance).

Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
