    DB:4.93:Session-Timeout Vs. Exec-Timeout k7

Which difference between commands 'session-timeout' and 'exec-timeout'?

    DB:4.93:Session-Timeout Vs. Exec-Timeout k7

    Hi,

Exec-timeout is an idle timeout for exec

sessions (i.e. telnet/ssh to the router).

The session-timeout applies to all sessions, i.e. exec, ppp, etc, the sessions are unconditionally cleared after the session-timeout expires.

DB:4.40:Idle/Session Timeout Vs Sleeping Client z8

    Hello,

DB:4.40:Idle/Session Timeout Vs Sleeping Client z8

    Thanks for the answer.

However with the idle timeout set to 14400 seconds I can already achieve the same behaviour as sleeping client.

For example my client associates and authenticates against the web portal at time X. At time X+60s the client goes to sleep.

When the client wakes up and re-associates at time X + 3600s it is still in the client database and doesn't have to authenticate.

So i was wondering if the sleeping client feature was usefull when the idle timeout can play that role.

Is there any way to catch HTTP Session timeout event ?

    Thanks.

    DB:4.37:Http Session Timeout Event p9

    Hi,

One way to do this is to bind an object into the HttpSession object that
implements the HttpSessionBindingListener interface. The valueUnbound()
callback will be invoked as part of the timeout process though I am not
sure you can depend on the ordering (i.e., whether the valueBound()
method is called and/or completed before or in parallel with the session
    timing out).

    Hope this helps,
    Robert

    Hi abouhich,

You can establish a time limit, so Cisco CallManager Extension Mobility

automatically logs out users after a certain time throughout the cluster:

? go to service parameters - choose your callmanager server from Server scroll down -- choose Cisco Extension Mobility from Service scroll down -- At the Enforce Maximum Login Time, choose True to specify a

maximum time for logins and then set the maximum login time.

There is no setting in Firefox for that. You need to change a tcpip parameter in the Registry.

Telnet Timeout will wait for the maximum Timeout time before ending it's operation. Is there anyway to make it so that it functions like a normal timeout?

DB:4.04:Telnet Timeout Is Not A True Timeout? 98

If you dive into the code, you will find a No Time Out Error.vi. In it, the author checks for a timeout error and only clears the status register, and not the message or error code. The Telnet Buffered Read.vi uses a while loop to collect the data in much smaller timeout values so it can fall out as fast as possible. Since the author doesn't clear the code or message, if no data is present during an iteration of the while loop, you will get that warning. If you modify the No Time Out Error to clear everything, then you will not receive the warning. Additonally, if you put a small time delay between your open connection and your close connection, you can avoid the warning. In my testing, the warning came because the server had not started sending data yet immediately following the opening of the connection.

Due to some server software need more connection timeout by client request , So i want to configure specific server to extend connection timeout

Is possible , what command can finish it.

I am using FWSM firewall and 2.2.1 version

    DB:4.04:Timeout fz

    Hi,

Connection timeout for a specific server on FWSM cannot be set. Once set a timeout conn woudl apply to the entire connection passing through it. What you are trying to achieve on FWSM is not possible.

While I wouldn't consider this broken, have a look at the weblogic.login.readTimeoutMillis property:

    John Watkinson wrote:

WebLogic Support staff, please acknowledge this problem, it has been made very clear here. A great demonstration of the problem (as Guy mentions) is to telnet to an apache web server, leave it open without typing anything, and then telnet to a weblogic server and do the same. For example:

    telnet www.apache.org 80

will patiently wait for input, whereas:

    telnet www.bea.com 80

Closes the connection after 5 seconds.

Is there a property we can set that fixes this in the latest version of WebLogic?

    Hi --

Where are you getting the message? If you are getting it in the server
window, depending on the error, you might be able to ignore it. For
example: suppose you click on a link in your browser... before the page
comes up, you decide to hit "Back". Weblogic wil likely spit out a
    message saying something like: (4.5.1)

Mon Oct 18 16:38:45 PDT 1999:W ListenThread Connection rejected: Unable to read from the socket
[host=127.0.0.1,port=2718,localport=7001] Perhaps the client closed the connection.

Are these the types of messages you are talking about?

When I telnet to the port and let it timeout, I get:

Mon Oct 18 16:50:28 PDT 1999:W ListenThread Connection rejected: Login timed out after 5000 msec.
The socket came from [host=127.0.0.1,port=2733,localport=7001] See property weblogic.login.readTimeoutMillis.

The server shouldn't take more than 5 sconds to acknowledge a requestion, but you could
crank up the readTimeoutMillis to 10000 or something with a line in your weblogic.properties file:

    weblogic.login.readTimeoutMillis=10000

To check that this worked, go to http://localhost:7001/T3AdminProps and search on the
    page for readTimeoutMillis

    Guy Tal wrote:

In several occasions I have gotten an error message claiming the client
connection is closed. In reality, the HTTP server seems to time out the
conenction way too soon, sometimes before the browser had a chance to post
    information.
(Try telnetting to the HTTP port and see how quickly the connection is
dropped if you don't type "GET / HTTP/1.0" quickly enough).
Is there any way to change the timeout?

    Thanks,

    Maitane,

please find a Product Documentation link below, this have a Chapter "How the Generic Application Defense profile works" and which value you can choose.

    https://kb.mcafee.com/agent/index?page=contentid=PD25204

You can increase the time out threshold to the level you need but please keep in mind this will be done for the current Application Deff. Profile. Make sure you use this profile in the RDP allow rule - the App. Deff. field.

    -Sergej

P.S.: Please verify in a tcpdump the session is dropped by the firewall reaching timeout trashold and not by the client or server, otherwise the change suggested above will have no effect for you.

You can't in 6.0. There is a bug which will be fixed in our next
    release.

You'll have to set the transaction timeout in each weblogic-ejb-jar.xml.

That being said, I usually do not recommend increasing the transaction
    timeout.

    thanks

    DB:3.96:Session Timeout 7d

The global session timeout value by itself will not turn a VM off. It would simply disconnect your View client which would leave the View machine still logged in and running on the ESX server. You would get logged off if you have maybe a GPO setting that logs off after spending a certain amount of time in a disconnected state or if you pool specifies an action on disconnects.

it silently discard the connection. There are no RST send to source/destination. The role is to clear from memory "dead" connections. A normal terminated connection (rst-rstack) is cleared from pix memory at that time. This timeout should not be set to low cause it will kill long ftp transfers and so on.

Timeout for xlate clear also all reference about a host including up connections.

    DB:3.94:Jsp Session Timeout c1

    Hi

How do I configure the server for JSP session timeout?

    DB:3.94:Jsp Session Timeout c1

    1. If you deploy in a WAR, there is a setting in web.xml. From the DTD:
    !--
The session-config element defines the session parameters for
    this web application.
    --
    !ELEMENT session-config (session-timeout?)
    !--
The session-timeout element defines the default session timeout
interval for all sessions created in this web application. The
specified timeout must be expressed in a whole number of minutes.
    --
    !ELEMENT session-timeout (#PCDATA)

    2. From "7.5 Session Timeouts" in the Servlet 2.2 spec:
In the HTTP protocol, there is no explicit termination signal when a client
is no longer active. This means that the only mechanism that can be used to
indicate when a client is no longer active is a timeout period. The default
timeout period for sessions is defined by the servlet container and can be
obtained via the getMaxInactiveInterval method of the HttpSession interface.
This timeout can be changed by the Developer using the
setMaxInactiveInterval of the HttpSession interface. The timeout periods
used by these methods is defined in seconds. If the timeout period for a
session is set to -1, the session will never expire.

    DB:3.94:Difference Between Session-Timeout And Exec-Timeout d8

Just a quick hint to any lurkers: setting exec-timeout to 0 0 is fine for a lab setup but not good for production use. You want the router to automatically drop unused connections (such as those from systems which have gone away without logging off) or you will find that you will no longer be able to log into the router because all VTYs are "in use."

Instead, set the exec-timeout to something long enough to avoid being inconvenienced, such as 600 0 (ten hours). More than enough to keep you from being logged off, but short enough so that everything gets cleaned up over night.

    DB:3.94:Exec-Timeout Vs Session-Timeout mp

    Hi

Could you please tell me what's different between exec-timeout and session-timeout ? If i want to limit the time of idle traffic on line vty ,

how can i choose the appropriate command ?

    Thanks

    DB:3.94:Exec-Timeout Vs Session-Timeout mp

exec time out means seession waits for the user input before the time out and closing the seession...and its default of 10 minutes you can use the "exec-timeout" command to configure time...

and session time oute is the time interval that the router waits for the traffic before closing the connection and its in minutes...and you can configure it using "session-timeout minutes" command...default is 0...and output key word in this command tell router to use both input and output traffic to reset the counters...if you not use this output key word then only input traffic will cause a counter reset...

hope this will clear your idea...

rate this post if it helps

    Hi All,

This is first time I am trying to ste timeout on SSIS package ,Can some one let me know which is the best way to set timeout for connection?
And what is the difference between General TimeOut and Command TimeOut?

DB:3.94:Ssis Connection Manager General Timeout Vs Command Timeout pz

    Varugupt,
I suggest you create your own unresolved thread in order to expedite your issue resolution.
I will nevertheless try to help you quickly here:

your question If the connection hasn't been established by the timeout (or the default), it will stop trying to connect.
-- answer: an attempt to establish a connection would not last forever, it is limited to a certain value (or duration in time if you wish) of typically milliseconds. So if you ask to establish a connection and it does not connect within normally a very short
time - you have a connectivity issue at hand that you (or your admins) have to resolve. A connection must be made reasonably quick, very quick, as soon as possible ideally, otherwise the solution is not workable. If you tell it is not trying to connect then you have a slightly different problem, please explain in as many details as possible as how you connect, to what, error message(s), whether you are able to connect using other methods, etc.
In most cases, this is due to security.Arthur My Blog

    Hi,

Please let me know the implecations of reducing the connection timeout and xlate timeout on PIX 535.The worry is about the impact on VPN accesses.

    Regards

    DB:3.94:Connection Timeout Issues x1

i guess the impact is the same to all connection regardless whether it's encrypted or not.

as far as i know, both connection and xlate timeout focus on the idle connection.

    e.g.

timeout conn = idle time after which a connection closes

timeout xlate = idle time until a translation slot is freed

thus as long as the vpn traffic is active, i don't think there would be much impact.

You need to use parameter-maps for defining idle time outs.

    e.g

    parameter-map type connection My-TCP-map

    set timeout inactivity 600

    class-map match-all My-TCP-class

    match port tcp any

    policy-map multi-match My-TCP-policy

    class My-TCP-class

    connection advanced My-TCP-map

Then apply this to the vlan where its needed.

    DB:3.92:Transaction Timeout During Debugging p1

    DB:3.92:Transaction Timeout During Debugging p1

You can always recompile the EJB and change the timeout value in the
    descriptor...

Another way if your EJB has an attribute of "Required", "Mandatory" or
"Supports" to start a UserTransaction before making the call and set the
    timeout before that:

    UserTransaction ut = (UserTransaction)
    context.lookup("javax.transaction.UserTransaction");
ut.setTimeout(3600); // sets the transaction timeout to 1 hour

    ut.begin();

    // call EJBs here

    ut.commit();

Or as Rob Woolen from BEA pointed out you if it is not defined at the
EJB level then the global timeout value is the one that is used.

    Hi,

How to FAC timeout to 10sec on CallManager 7

DB:3.88:How To Fac Timeout To 10sec On Callmanager f3

    Hi Rao,

    1. A user dials a number that goes to a FAC-enabled route pattern.

2.Cisco CallManager tells the phone to play a special tone.

3.The user enters the authorization code. The system then either waits for the FAC Timer (T302/ or interdigit timer) to expire (default 15 seconds) or for the user to press the "#" key.

Note: Since the FAC timer affects T302 timer, bear in mind that if you adjust this timer to permit more time for FAC input, it extends the time for normal calls as well.

    4. If the code is correct, the call is extended to the exiting gateway and Cisco CallManager generates a Call Detail Record (CDR) flagged with the FAC number.

    Cheers!Rob
