    Hello,

    I tried nginx directives in plesk 12.0 and it does not work.
    I tried to enable gzip with nginx.

    To work here you must change nginx.conf:

    nano /etc/nginx/nginx.conf

    uncomment the first two lines and then add the 3rd line:
    gzip on;
    gzip_disable “MSIE [1-6]\.(?!.*SV1)”;
    gzip_types text/plain text/html text/css application/json application/x-javascript text/xml application/xml application/xml+rss text/javascript application/javascript text/x-js;

    Is this normal or is this a bug?

    DB:4.67:Nginx Directives Plesk 12.0 Does Not Work 9k

    yes I changed the nginx.conf file
    It works.

    Purpose order plesk is to automate tasks. When I modify nginx directives that does not work I need to change the nginx.conf file

    Why give the possibility to change the nginx directives if it does not work?

    Ive posted this in the How To forum, but its probably actually more of a help its buggy post.

    Firstly, Id like to point out that Im a user and not an admin - my host have no ideas on this matter, and its Plesk caused so Im asking here in the hope that there might be some kind of user support somewhere.

    Ive set my Plesk control panel up to rotate logs weekly, keep three and zip them (no point in wasting space that is counted towards limits). Unfortunately I moved house and wasnt able to get an internet connection in time to check the emailed logs and download them before they got deleted if it all went wrong.

    Ive got two weeks worth of log files that I have copies of on email, but have been deleted from the server. Unforutnately these logs have been sent in the body of the email, gzipped and 8bit encoded. I now have two batches of emails full of gibberish that I cant recover into a valid GZip.

    Since this seems to be default Plesk behaviour, how am I supposed to retrieve GZipped logs from the body of the email that Plesk has sent?

    Thanks

    I am having a few problems with backing up domains in Plesk 7. For some reason, backup seems to hang when it reaches a specific domain.

    It goes:
    [Sat Apr 10 03:50:23 2004] dumping hosting user data for domain /home/httpd/vhosts/xxxxxxxxxx.ca ...

    and then it continues like this forever. 5 hours later, its still like this, 2 days later, same thing.

    This backup is being done by a cronjob which runs at 3 AM. The file executed contains this:

    #!/bin/bash
    cd /home/psa_backup/
    /usr/local/psa/bin/psadump -f - --nostop --force | gzip | split -b 1000m - dump.

    set passive off

    On appliance there are running tomcat and apache2 daemons. I guess apache2 is proxy for tomcat.

    Question is: what's best practice to enable gzip compression in vCOPs env? Should it be enabled on tomcat or apache?

    We ran quick net tests. I think you'r right - refresh interval short value seems to be main culprit here.

    After all, still it would be nice to have http gzip compression enabled - I believe it's no hard to implement.

    Are you using the chrooted shell? If so it will lock the user out of most of this stuff. There are ways to make these utilities available to chrooted shell users. Use sym links or copy the binarys you need over to bin/sbin directories that are available to them. Another way would just be to give them normal shell access and not chrooted shell access. Its more of a security risk, but you shouldnt be giving shell access to people who 1. dont know what theyre doing and 2. you feel will be a security risk. Very few of my users require shell access. Most of them wouldnt know what to do with it if they did have it. Generally ftp, plesk CP access are plenty.

    Hi,

    Can someone tell me how i could compress an object using gzip compression and decompress it?

    Thanks

    DB:3.67:Gzip Compression &Amp; Decompression sz

    first you must know that java GZip have 2 object to handle compresions.

    GZIPOutputStream (for compress) and GZIPInputStream (for read the compress data)

    when you save a file using GZIPOutputStream the data is compresed. if you want read a file or any stream that was be saved with GZIPOutputStream just use GZIPinputStream object to make it.

    /**
    * Creates a GZip archive using the file name passed in as a parameter.
    */
    public static void makeGZip(String fileName)
    throws IOException, FileNotFoundException
    {
    File file = new File(fileName);
    FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(file + ".gzip");
    GZIPOutputStream gzos = new GZIPOutputStream(fos);
    //Create a buffered input stream out of the file we are
    //trying to add into the gzip archive.
    FileInputStream fin = new FileInputStream(file);
    BufferedInputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(fin);
    //Create a buffer for reading raw bytes from the file.
    byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
    //The len variable will keep track of how much we
    //are able to actually read each time we try.
    int len;
    //Read from the file and write to the gzip archive.
    while ((len = in.read(buf)) = 0) {
    gzos.write(buf,0,len);
    }
    in.close();
    gzos.close();

    Hi there, some of you might find this useful:

    I have successfully enabled mod_deflate in Apache v2.x on my webserver and there do not seem to be any adverse affects on Plesk (so far!). For those who dont know mod_deflate compresses data before transmitting to compatible browsers, which then uncompress the data before displaying. On one of my sites homepage alone it saves 78% data bandwidth on a modern browser (Safari 3.1) so Im pretty chuffed...

    Original Size: 18 KB
    Gzipped Size: 4 KB
    Data Savings: 77.78%

    Older browsers that do not support compressed data still get the uncompressed version so it is backwards compatible. You can test if your server already has mod_deflate enabled using the following tool...

    http://www.whatsmyip.org/mod_gzip_test/

    If you have Apache 2.x on your server then chances are you already have mod_deflate installed but not enabled. You can check by opening your Apache httpd.conf file and do a search for LoadModule deflate_module modules/mod_deflate.so

    If it is there but commented out (has a # at the start of the line) then uncomment it.

    Then add the following code to the bottom of your httpd.conf file:

    Location /
    # Insert filter
    SetOutputFilter DEFLATE

    # Netscape 4.x has some problems...
    BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4 gzip-only-text/html

    # Netscape 4.06-4.08 have some more problems
    BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4\.0[678] no-gzip

    # MSIE masquerades as Netscape, but it is fine
    # BrowserMatch \bMSIE !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html

    # NOTE: Due to a bug in mod_setenvif up to Apache 2.0.48
    # the above regex wont work. You can use the following
    # workaround to get the desired effect:
    BrowserMatch \bMSI[E] !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html

    # Dont compress images
    SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI \
    \.(?:gif|jpe?g|png)$ no-gzip dont-vary

    # Make sure proxies dont deliver the wrong content
    Header append Vary User-Agent env=!dont-vary
    /Location

    Restart Apache from the command line or within Plesk and all your hosted sites should now benefit.

    Cheers,
    Phil

    Are their any known (common) issues of things breaking when applying Plesk 7 on top of a Plesk 5 and/or Plesk 6 server.

    Recently we discovered our website has been removed from Google, due to so called empty redirects. After 2 days of testing and checking we discovered this is because our website, running on Plesk, returns a 301 Moved Permanently when requesting a page on HTTP/1.0 without Host-headers.

    Since this same problem occurs for almost every one of our clients, we figured this would be some kind of Plesk error. Also, some of our clients domains return the default Plesk page when requesting a page with HTTP/1.0 without Host-headers.

    Two vritual machines stored on a 600GB datastore. One is using 50GB, the second one, 26GB. The datastore filesystem is ReiserFS.

    The virtual Machines are both based on the same template, with Debian Etch x32. Both are running Plesk 9.0. The VM disks are distributed in 4 VMDK each. One per partition. One for root, one for home, one for var and a last one for swap.

    Plesk Backup is using tar and gzip.

    VM1 has 18 domaines, with average traffic. WM2 has almost no traffic at all.

    When plesk backup is running, IOWAIT for VM1 goes up to 99.7% iowait permanently. IOWAIT for VM2 goes up to 99.7% as soon as there is any activity on it. And the host goes up to 40% iowait. It seems pretty c

    Questions:

    Could it be due to reiserFS ?

    Is it a problem to run 4 vmdk per vm on the same host drive ?

    How can I troubleshoot this ?

    I afraid the T1000 is effectively a 32 CPU multiprocessor.
    So there is simply no way to adjust things so a singlethreaded program can get more the 1/32 of the machine. Well, it can get slightly more because any system calls into the kernel can be run on other CPU's.

    Hi ,

    based on the OSS Note 965256 I know that the PI can handle zip files. my question is now, if anybody know if PI 7.1 ehp1 also supports the *format *.gzip?* We are currently analysing some interfaces and we do not have a test system where we can just can test this file type.

    Does anyone of you have experiances with gzip?

    man pages on the system are in the .gz format,which reduces the disk space. If the gzip and gunzip files in /bin get corrupted, your man won\t work it will give error like

    Try to reinstall gzip which can be dowloaded from the net and move it to /bin directory. It will help you to fix this problem.

    Since the upgrade to 8.3, my Plesk has become insane:

    2.- I cant change the time of server.

    3.- Two weeks ago, changed the permissions of the directories httpdocs of all my domains (nobody could read the web pages).

    4.- I cant access to my protected directories (the usernames and passwords created from the Control Panel dont work). I need use .htaccess and .htpasswd (created with console -SSH, root-).

    5.- And the worst: All nights there is a proccess that stops my httpd and mysqld (I need restart them manually every night).

    Is a mysterious pleskbackup of all:
    Cron root@mydomain /usr/local/psa/bin/pleskbackup --all /root/backup/backup.psa -verbose

    I have never created this task (I had the following: /usr/local/psa/bin/pleskbackup all backup) and I cant see it either on the control panel or from the console, but every night, I can see 4 PID in top: pleskbackup, backup_sign, gzip and pleskbackup. These processes consume my CPU and stop httpd and/or mysqld. I kill manually these processes, but the next night, they return mysteriously...

    Any idea?

    DB:2.98:File Not In Gzip Format 3a

    Hello, i have a networking problem. I tried to send GZIP files on the network but there was an error that states that "File not in GZIP format". This happens when i tried to decompress the said GZIP format.

    I tried to run my program locally without sending it to the network and it worked just fine and smoothly. I've been trying to debug my code but to no success! Is there anything i failed to do. My code just read from the input stream of the socket with the gzip input stream.

    Thanks, and happy holidays...

    DB:2.98:File Not In Gzip Format 3a

    use a GZIPInputStream at the read end only if your are using a GZIPOutputStream at the sending end.
    If all you want to do is transferring a zipped file that is already there in the senders HDD then you dont have to worry about the formats just use normal streams

    DB:2.97:Conversion Of Plesk 7 Dump File Fails On Plesk 9.3 9s

    Hi folks,

    I have a Plesk 7.5.4 system running in a Virtuozzo 3 VPS. I have a brand new Plesk 9.3 system running in a Virtuozzo 4 container. Id like to move all clients domains from the Plesk 7.5.4 setup to the Plesk 9.3 system. I have been unable to do so.

    Following the KB article http://kb.odin.com/en/5864 I made a dump of my Plesk 7.5.4 system, viz:

    /usr/local/psa/bin/psadump -f Plesk7.dump --nostop

    This worked and I had a 3.7 gig Plesk7.dump file which I copied over to the Plesk 9.3 system. Then I tried to convert the Plesk7 dump to a Plesk8 dump (prior to converting it to a Plesk 9 backup) as the KB article says to:

    /usr/local/psa/bin/backup-convert convert --output Plesk8.dump Plesk7.dump

    This step fails and Im at a loss what to do next. Heres what I get from the above command:

    /usr/local/psa/admin/share/backup_convert/commands/convert.py:8: DeprecationWarning: the MimeWriter module is deprecated; use the email package instead
    import MimeWriter
    Runtime error: not a gzip file

    The import MimeWriter output and the Runtime error: not a gzip file are separated by about 30 minutes. The conversion aborts with the runtime error.

    Does anyone have an idea how I proceed from here?

    Oh yeah, the Plesk 7.5.4 VPS is running Fedora Core 4 on a Fedora Core 2 host and the Plesk 9.3 container is running Fedora 11 on a Fedora 8 host.

    Hi,

    When using the http compression output filter the Content-Encoding header in the response is different depending on whether the requests comes in with accept-encoding x-gzip (http 1.0) or gzip (http 1.1). If x-gzip in then we get x-gzip out and same with gzip.

    This is a problem for us since we are caching the html response into a netcache proxy server. If the page goes into the cache with x-gzip header, IE6 users get a binary dump of the compressed page in their browser since the proxy is serving it even though the user request has Accept-Encoding: gzip and not x-gzip. IE6 it does not know to decompress the page if it is x-gzip.

    Is there a way in the client tag to prevent using gzip if it is a http 1.0 request or using x-gzip accept-encoding?

    Here is current config:

    Client urlhost="www.xxx.com"
    Output fn="insert-filter" filter="http-compression" type="text/html*" vary="on" fragment-size="8096" compression-level="1"
    Output fn="insert-filter" filter="http-compression" type="text/xml" vary="on" fragment-size="8096" compression-level="1"
    Output fn="insert-filter" filter="http-compression" type="application/xml" vary="on" fragment-size="8096" compression-level="1"
    /Client

    In Sun Java System Web Server 7.0, you can use the If tag to do this:If defined $headers{'accept-encoding'} and $headers{'accept-encoding'} !~ "x-gzip"

    Hi,

    i have a problem with the plesk backup manager. The backup manager scripts are running 24 hours a day, resulting in 90% - 95% CPU load, infinitely. Maybe this is caused by local backups and too little hdd space (over 90% in use).

    In the meanwhile I changed the configuration for all web hosting backups and I restarted the server. All backups now should be done between 23:00 an 01:00 clock and will be copied to a ftp backup space. Also I cleared lots of hdd space (about 55% in use).

    Unfortunately, the CPU load ist at maximum again, even though there should not run any backup script at the moment. Killing the perl or gzip processes doesnt help at all. There are new processes immediately.
    The only way I could stop the heavy CPU load was to rename /usr/bin/perl and /bin/gzip. So the Backup Manager couldnt find that applications anymore. Now the CPU load is at 10% to 30%.

    Here are some informations about the unstopable tasks / processes (the perl task allready used my new ftp backup space configuration, but should not start before 23:00 clock):

    Hello,

First of all, what is the best way for daily database backup in plesk. Im trying to do this in Scheduled Tasks and I use mysqldump command although Im not sure. Can you please tell me my mistakes?

    I chose the time and day first and then I switched on the task. I typed the following command to

    mysqldump -uusername -ppassword databasename | gzip -9 /httpdocs/mydatabase.sql.gz
    or
    mysqldump -uusername -ppassword databasename /httpdocs/mydatabase.sql.gz

    This created only a blank file. When I use this without gzip, nothing changes.

    1- Is mysqldump right command for database backup?
    2- Should I define full path for mysqldump, gzip and database? If so, how can I find out the full path of mysqldump, gzip and my database? Because I cant see their locations in panel.
    3- I cant see any error message. There is not any log file in httpdocs folder. Where does the log file exist?
    4- It is weird but should the username be database user or should I write root ?

    Thank you.

    Hi Igor, thanks for your reply. I tried the following commands but they didnt work. They only created blank backup files 0 kb sized.

    /usr/bin/mysqldump -udatabaseusername -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` mydatabasename | gzip -9 /httpdocs/mydatabasename.sql.gz

    I think the directory structure is different. Is that true? There is no bin folder under usr. The bin folder exists in the root and there are only the following files under bin folder :

    bash 792 KB
    cat 32.0 KB

    And there is no cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow folders and files. There is a folder named etc in the root directory and there is a file named passwd in it.

    Note: If you are not sure what you are doing, dont do it!

    I have only installed this on FreeBSD 4.x, but the procedure should be similar for Redhat

    All this should be done logged in as root through telnet/ssh

    # cd /usr/local/plesk/apache/bin
    # fetch http://www.remotecommunications.com/apache/mod_gzip/src/1.3.19.1a/mod_gzip.c
    # ./apxs -i -a -c mod_gzip.c
    # rm mod_gzip*
    # mkdir /tmp/gzip
    # cd /usr/local/plesk/apache/conf
    # ee module.include (and add these lines)

    AddModule mod_gzip.c

    mod_interchange install?

    I would like to install mod_interchange in apache. Would the
    instructions be the same as they are for mod_gunzip?

    Thanks in advance,

    DB:2.89:Gzip Compression And 404 af

    we are using gzip compression on jboss using compression="force" to get gzip compression on all files types. this cause an error when using flash and IE 6 because the 404 file not found message is being gzipped and IE doesn't unpack it correctly before sending it on to flash, thereby not triggering the proper 404 error handling in flash.is there any way to turn off gzip compression for the 404 file not found?thanks.

    DB:2.89:Opening A Backup File, Plesk 8 cs

    Does anyone know how to open the Plesk Backup file and extracting individual files?

    I have a FC3 box running Plesk 8. I create a backup file and transfer it to my local windows computer. Is it possible to extract all the files? If so how? I know its stored in gzip format but I still can’t seem to get to the data.

    DB:2.89:Opening A Backup File, Plesk 8 cs

    Its a combination of Winrar and Winzip, if I recall.
    http://forum.swsoft.com/showthread.php?s=threadid=32448 discusses it to some extent, as they try to figure out how to actually restore data that was created with the 8.0 backup.
    A search of backup file in the Plesk 8 section here will return a few other results. I know there was a more in-depth topic on how to do it, but I cant find it now.

    DB:2.89:Unpacking Psadump Without Using Psarestore sp

    Is this possible to unpack psdump file without using psarestore? Restoring vhost requires the vhost to be deleted from plesk which I dont want to do, I only need to get a couple of files. The dump was created with the following command:

    /usr/local/psa/bin/psadump --nostop --tar-ignore-failed-read -F -f - | gzip | split -b 1000m - dump.

    It consist of 4 files, 3 sized 1gb each and one 400mb.

    thanks

    You can not do this. The solution is to use another server.

    DB:2.89:Enable Gzip For Php dc

    What setting do I need to make under a default Plesk setup to allow PHP to run GZip?

    The GZip program is located in /usr/bin but when php does a file_exists(/usr/bin/gzip) a false is returned.

    DB:2.89:Enable Gzip For Php dc

    I also have problems regarding exec system() from php. I need to give users access to few of system commands from PHP and not sure how to do it.

    hardweb: You must setup PHP open_basedir to /usr/bin/ and disable safe_mode for that domain.

    How can I disable safe_mode for only one domain and how to setup open_basedir to few domains?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    DB:2.89:Backup Concerns 7j

    Plesk 8.2, Fedora 7.

    When initiating a backup the CPUs in the server are pegged. The gzip process runs @ 99% and this continues thru the backup. The site backup footprint is nearly 3GB and grows everyday.

    Is there a way to nice the backup? Can I just tar gz the site contents and not rely on Plesk backup? I cannot afford to lose the horsepower, even @ 4:00am.

    Any thoughts?

    Also, on one scheduled backup did not complete and Plesk was caught in a loop, its only to retain 2 backups but made 14 of them in attempts to complete. This eventually brought the server down and 100% outage.

    DB:2.89:Backup Concerns 7j

    Also, if I want to totally remove the plesk backup cron, is this entry:

    /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/backupmng /dev/null 21

    From the root cron, the only one I need to remove?
