    Hi Alex,

    We have OpenSSO 8, and are evaluating whether to migrate to Oracle 11g, or going to OpenAM. Although I've said migrate, integrate is more appropriate, as we already have OpenSSO and no OAM installed.

    The idea for testing the product was starting with OAM and use it to authenticate our users. I've been able to make this work. It has taken me a lot of time, because I've only used OAM, nothing else from OIM suite, and the documentation is oriented to installing almost everything. Now I have this working finally, the next step should be single sign-on, but I'm affraid I won't have enough time to complete this.

    The only information I've got on how to integrate OpenSSO and OAM is from OpenSSO integration guide, is this what you're doing? Or are you installing the whole OIM and will "shut down" OpenSSO so that they don't work together?

    At this moment, integration seems too complicated, and it seems it would be easier to migrate from OpenSSO to OpenAM.

    Your posts are the only ones I've found that have some comments from someone who has evaluated OpenAM and OIM, and has tried to migrate to OIM. I would really appreciate your comments, even if you haven't completed the process.

    Thank you

    Will this lockout the ROOT user account indefinitely?

    Thanks in advance...

    DB:2.44:Lockout Root Account Indefinitely 7f

    No.

    Number of retries is the number of times a failed logon is allowed to try again before it is disabled for x number of seconds as defined by the DISABLETIME variable.

    You can disable root from logging in via the network by changing the CONSOLE variable to

    CONSOLE=/dev/console

    This means that users will have to switch to root and you can log this by setting

    SULOG=/var/adm/sulog

    in the /etc/default/su file

    The best thing you can do is set DISABLETIME as high as possible and RETRIES to 1.

    I\'m running nw65sp5.

    I\'ve recently run into a problem with NetStorage. I am getting repeated

    Hello there,

    Does anybody has any idea about it? Please let me know (stated below):

    1.) Account lockout threshold = 3 - I am confident on this one as we can set it in XL.SystemConfiguration. but what about others? Any definite answers?

    2.) Account lockout duration = 1hr?
    3.) Session timeout = 10min?
    4.) Reset account lockout after = 3 days?

    Thanks in advance,

    I am not sure what you are asking exactly.

    But i have seen 3.) Session timeout = 30 in web.xml in Web-INF file. You can give any value here. Your session will be expire after that time interval.

    Hello,

    The root user is NEVER locked out. Without access to the root user you can not manage the system. Your script should login as a non-root user then either use sudo or su to access root to do the commands you desire. I suggest sudo as its much more secure. If root is locked out then there is no way to reset the root password short of rebooting and possibly using a rescue mode boot. So locking out root is disastrous.

    I would probably say your script could be rewritten to use the VI SDK to get the same information without having to login as root. If you use the VI SDK you have the advantage of also working with ESXi. Or have your script detect the failed logins and respond accordingly instead of locking out accounts on your host.

    Hi,

    We have an implementation of Cisco Secure for Windows. To log into the cisco devices the cisco device use tacacs and the cisco secure server checks against windows AD to validate user+password credntials. Now if the users fail three times in a row their account in AD gets locked for 2 minutes. Their tacacs accounts get locked after 7 attemps. However the user does not get a warning from the cisco device when the windows account is locked out so some users keep on trying so also their tacacs account gets locked out. I see in the logging on the acs server that the windows AD is telling it that the account is locked. Is it possible to send this message to the user prompt to notify them? Otherwise is it possible to also lock the tacacs account for two minutes?

    DB:2.35:How To Notify Users That Their Account Is Lockout sm

    Yes it is possible... but wasnt implemented.

    If you use the ACS internal database, password aging messages get passed back via T+ that allows for forcing admins to change passwords and the like.

    Its actually not that hard for ACS to do the same for Windows/AD but it was never done - which is a shame.

    I guess if enough people shouted at Marketing they might add it.

    Hello,

    Could anybody please tell me where WebLogic Server 7.0 stores data pertaining
    to User Lockout?

    Information, such as whether user lockout is enabled and lockout cache size, can
    be set in the relevant realm node in the administration console (under the Security/Realms
    branch).

    I would expect such data to be persisted in the config.xml file for the server
    domain, but this is not the case. I have searched the entire domain and WLS installation
    directory structures for this data, but to no avail. The settings are definitely
    persisted somewhere, since after server re-boot they appear correctly.

    Motivation for doing this is that I have developed a custom user lockout mechanism
    and would like to switch off the WLS way of doing this (by unchecking the 'Lockout
    Enabled' checkbox). I also need a way of distributing this to the customer, e.g.
    releasing a property settings (XML?) file.

    Thanks very much,

    You can allow some grace logins by setting the pwdGraceLoginLimit attribute to a positive number. This will give a chance to the user to change the password after it has expired.

    You are using an incorrect password?

    You should pay attention tot he following potential issues:

    1) If you don\'t have the same password for your local windows login and

    your network login, you have to double check that you are unlocking the

    screen saver with the correct password. In the client settings, you can

    determine which password can be used for the screen saver, but by default,

    it is the edirectory password

    2) The capslock and numlock settings might be different in the screen

    saver compared to the initial login. As such, people have to double check

    they really type the correct password and also use the correct case.

    Thank you

    DB:2.31:Any Way To Notify When A Thread Terminate ? fz

    Hi,

    It depends what you're trying to do. A common occurrence is one thread waiting for another thread to complete. You can achieve this using the join() method on java.lang.Thread:

    Thread t = new Thread(new Runnable() {
    public void run()
    {
    // do some long winded task A
    }
    });

    t.start();

    // do task B that will run concurrently with A

    // block this thread until task A completes
    t.join();

    (exception handling omitted for brevity)

    For general notification between threads, the wait() and notify() constructs are commonly used. These are called on an object and can only be called in code blocks synchronized on that object. There are a whole gammut of issues to be aware of when using threads in this way; I'd strongly recommend getting a good book on the subject (e.g. "Concurrent Programming in Java, Second Edition" by Doug Lea.

    and in my login.jsp, I have:

    % if (request.getParameter("error") != null) { %
    font class='alert'Login was incorrect/font
    % } %

    This works well enough for me to notify the user they've screwed up but say a
    hacker comes along and starts hitting the system attempting to break someones
    password. The real user will come along and find the message "Login was incorrect"
    and get completely confused.

    Consider using rich-mpnl-mask-div class. Note: microsoft expressions are used to position mask in IE6 and IE7 in back compatibility mode; these expressions should be also taken into consideration.

    In DS 5.2 there are three parameters for account (password) lockout:
    lockout account after n login failures
    reset failure count after n minutes
    lockout duration n minutes

    I do not fully understand the "reset failure count" parameter and how it affects the other two. Should it be under or over the lockout duration or does that matter? For example, If my lockout failure is 12 and duration is 12 hours, what should the reset be? Whats the best practice too? In general what do people set these at? Thanks.

    Did you try using script to reset the value?

    I\'m running Netware 6.5 SP6.

    I changed my domain admin pw sometime back in September (2007). Since then, one of my services arbitrarily attempts to reference eDirectory and causes an Intruder lockout of the admin account.

    So, I know it\'s a service that I setup but I can\'t figure out which is holding on to the old password.

    Does anyone know of a utility (3rd party or other), or a novell log file that will point to what\'s attempting to login?

    again, this happens at random.

    Thanks.

    12 is the server\'s internal network address. Something loaded on your

    server is trying to log in with your user object and an invalid password.

    Has anyone noticed an increased amount of intruder lockouts with zen agent installed? We have novell client 491sp5 installed with zenworks 10.2.2, many times when the user changes their password their account is locked shortly thereafter. I checked TID7009424 but not seeing that error in the logs.

    DB:2.30:Thread: Intruder Lockout 9d

    I do recall that issue in the past, but there have been updates to the

    ZCM agent that should fix that.

    Most likely updating to a current version in the 10.3.x or 11.1.x line

    would resolve that.

    (Sorry, I dont recall exactly when that was addressed.)

    When I configure a new realm and then go to the User Lockout tab, it
    says 'User lockout feature not supported by the configured providers'.
    What do I need to do to support this feature? It said in the docs that
    '(When you create a new security realm using the WebLogic Server
    Administration Console, a User Lockout Manager is always created.)' Why
    doesn't this happen for me?

    My guess is that the UserLockoutMBean isn't being setup correctly when
    you created the new realm. Try this mystical incantation which I believe
    is what the sample providers on dev2dev do.

    Substitute your realm name for whateverRealm) and put in the appropriate
    stuff for the "blah blah blah" for your server, e.g. -url
    t3://localhost:7001 -username adminusername
    -password adminpassword

    #1: make the UserLockoutManager mbean
    java weblogic.Admin (blah blah blah) CREATE \
    -mbean Security:Name=whateverRealmUserLockoutManager \
    -type weblogic.management.security.authentication.UserLockoutManager \
    commotype

    #2 make the UserLockoutManager refer to the realm
    java weblogic.Admin (blah blah blah) SET \
    -mbean Security:Name=whateverRealmUserLockoutManager \
    -property Realm Security:Name=whateverRealm \
    commotype

    #3 make the realm refer to the UserLockoutManager
    java weblogic.Admin (blah blah blah) SET \
    -mbean Realm Security:Name=whateverRealm \
    -property UserLockoutManager
    Security:Name=whateverRealmUserLockoutManager \
    commotype

    August.

    I have a 6.5 Tree and using Client 4.91.5.20080922. We have multiple trees.

    Sometimes when I or other people logout of this specific tree, and later

    (next day) try to login, it does a Intruder Lockout, even though there was

    only one attempt, and the Intruder lockout was set to 6 attempts.

    I have seen this pattern repeat many times over several months. Any idea as

    to the cause?

    I\'m not sure if I understand correctly Intruder Detection settings.

    I have selected Detect Intruders and Lock account after detection. Locking works fine.

    I have set Intruder lockout reset interval to 2 Hours. I have understood that the locked account should now unlock automatically after 2 hours from intruder detection. But it does\'nt open. When the account is locked, it stays locked until I open it.

    What is the meaning of the setting Intruder lockout reset interval?

    Hi!

    Could you clarify the term "instances not collecting"?

    With the move, comes to a head the next implementation (relatively simple):

    Create a special KM that will do all the job - collecting the necessary data.

    This KM must be installed on all PATROL Agents (so, all collected data will be visible in PCO - see below).

    Also, if necessary, you can send events to BEM, if "dead"-instances have been found.

    Major complex in solution - formulate a criterion "instances not collecting"

    The behavior of some KMs can be complex - some parameters turned on/off depending

    on the specifics of the object of monitoring.
